At the weekend, the Princess Royal visited the Royal Lymington Yacht Club for an impressive Regatta Day celebrating the Club’s centenary.

The Centenary Regatta Day and ‘Après Sail Festival’ brought together members of all ages, their families and friends for a glorious celebration of one hundred years on the water. Flotillas of yachts, dinghies, motor boats and paddle craft took part in a wide variety of events during the day.

Princess Anne had two outfit changes during the course of the day; a more casual waterproof jacket and a baker boy hat with her favourite sunglasses, and later, she changed into trousers and an on-trend gingham shirt, coupled with a fabulous denim blazer. We are loving this subtle, nautical vibe!

Afterwards, members returned ashore for food, drinks, live music and fun activities including a Centenary Haybale Games on the green adjacent to the clubhouse.

RLymYC Commodore, Phil Lawrence, said: "We were honoured that our Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, was able to join over 800 members of all ages for our Centenary Regatta Day. We celebrated one hundred years of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club with a packed day of activities afloat and ashore."

Out on the water, Princess Anne reviewed the fleet of members’ yachts and powerboats, many of which were dressed overall to celebrate the day. Keelboats raced for our prestigious PotterShip Trophy and the dinghy fleet raced in the boisterous conditions.

Patron of the Club since 1979, the mother-of-two was welcomed by Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mr. Nigel Atkinson, New Forest District Council’s Vice-Chairman, Councillor Neville Penman, Mayor of Lymington, Councillor James Hoare, and the Club’s Commodore, Phil Lawrence. The royal was introduced to Club’s Flag Officers, Centenary Regatta organisers and a number of young sailors, before heading out on the water in a RIB to tour the Regatta.

What is the deal with these jackets  how do they work when you pre-buy them.   what sizes do they offer  how do you get the jacket  is this a "one size fits all"  i am trying to understand the process., princess cruises reversible jacket.

Really?   Nylon?  Fleece?   I mean “fleece” hasn’t meant that it comes from sheep’s wool for over a decade.    

They’re made from dinosaur sludge like everything else these days.  $35 Might be a little steep for what it cost them.  

I actually have one of them. Ordered for Alaska cruise (in case needed warmer jacket than the rain one I was bringing).

The jacket will not be shipped to you, you will have to go to the shops and get one from their inventory. Sizing available is limited and not guaranteed, ie you might have to settle for different size than you ordered.

I did not like the Nylon part of the jacket AT ALL, it sounds crinckly when you move, I hate that. I have not tried reversing it, but also wouldnt want to wear crinkly nylon on the inside.

Long story short, dont buy it beforehand, try it out in the shops first and if you like it get it.

We bought a navy blue jacket on our Alaska cruise from the gift shop.  It is nylon on the outside and fleece on the inside.  We got them on sale.

Not sure what to advise..wanted to buy a Princess expandable roller bag to take purchases home. Unfortunately they were out of stock on our 2022, B2B cruise so we couldn’t get one. No huge issue just squashed everything into case and prayed was within weight allowance.

My worry would be if they didn’t have stock/ size you might be without a jacket unless pre ordered ??? Might depend on when you are travelling..beginning or end of season, and how many they sell. ?? Decisions, decisions !

If you pre-purchase you will get a voucher in your cabin. You take the voucher to the shop and select the size you want.

If it isn’t a gift, it’s just as easy to wait and purchase once you are on the ship and can see what you are getting.

Mac the moose is adorable! Please beware that he is larger that standard Stanley. Mac and the jacket was my exact preorder for Alaska cruise last year 🙂

Did you do the 10 day out of SF... do you happen to have the patters or photos of them?   thanks!  how about a picture of McKinley?

A reversible jacket for $35 is probably worth at least $15 in the real world.

They usually put these on sale during the cruise! I can’t remember the price, but think it was around $20.

Yeah.  If it was pouring outside on an excursion and someone offered me one I would graciously accept.    

As soon as it stopped raining I would slip it into the nearest plastic recycling bin.

I purchased this jacket and I must say I am pleased with it.  I will wear it for an Alaska/Canadian cruise.

I bought one on HAL, marked down after the Alaska season. It's a complete gimmick, because neither side is warm enough, with just a coating of fleece and then nylon on the other side, and it's not the same material across the coat on either side, so it feels uncomfortable and has no waterproofing. So definitely try on board before buying, and don't get seduced by the urge to buy or brand loyalty, since there are probably better options. You would get hypothermia in half an hour standing in Glacier Bay in such a coat--I use thermal jackets or fleece under a good raincoat.

Not waterproof.  Nylon is very crackle.  DW refused to wear after trying it on in the shop.

I have one that is several years old and love it! Never reverse it though because I like the fleece to be on the inside. No crackle to it at all.

I'm thinking about spraying the nylon side with waterproofing spray before our Alaska cruise in September. Has anyone else done that? How did it turn out? It works well on my Nikes. TIA! 👍

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.
