ITHAKA - JONGERT 2700M

Description.

ITHAKA ist the the 5th launch of the highly successful JONGERT 2700M series, crafted with expertise by the renowned Dutch Jongert Shipyard. She represents a coveted luxury sailing yacht, improving and advancing beyond her predecessors.

World famous yacht Architect Doug Peterson has redesigned the hull lines and the aft deck including the two outside steering stations and Van Oossanen naval architects have designed a special wing keel and an elliptic balance rudder ensuring heightened performance while sailing. A 3m taller carbon mast with carbon boom and hydraulic in-boom furling was chosen to further improve performance. Bow- and stern thrusters are in place to guarantee effortless maneuvering.

ITHAKA's deck is a masterclass in design. Two unobstructed, panoramic steering positions offer a seamless sailing experience. A generously sized seating area ahead of the steering stations, complete with two cocktail tables, becomes an inviting setting for relaxation and entertainment. The versatile deckhouse, which can be entirely closed in colder climates, adds to the luxury of ITHAKA. The adjustable windows on both sides offer the option of enjoying the natural breeze. A convertible table creates a lounge bed, promising comfort in any weather.

ITHAKA features some attractive technical details: - Integrated in-boom furling with mainsail traveler and foresails furled on two hydraulic furlers providing a two-person crew the ability to operate the yacht effortlessly and securely. - Optimized and strategically relocated standing rigging and foresail sheets running underdeck, offering a safe and unobstructed walk on deck. - Dinghy safely stowed in recessed superstructure (multifunctional storage for tender / gennakers in regatta sailing or as kids’ bath). It takes the two crew max 3 minutes to lower or stow the dinghy! - Huge lazarette, with folding bathing platform, for all toys, diving gear, bicycles, fishing gear etc. - Large aft platform for easy and secure access to dinghy or swimming.

Below deck, the interior is a sanctuary of tranquility. The “floating” interior design eliminates noise and vibration, enhancing the ambiance of serenity. This is further enhanced with water separators on main engine and generator exhausts for quiet operation. A beautiful and modern pear wood was chosen to create a light and luxurious atmosphere. The spacious lower salon offers a relaxation area and a generous dining space, catering to all your leisurely needs. The yacht's well-appointed galley and crew quarters are strategically placed ahead of the salon, ensuring seamless service. In the stern, the spacious and sophisticated owners' and guests' quarters provide utmost comfort. A large owner's stateroom and two twin guest cabins each have en-suite bathrooms, promising absolute privacy and luxury.

ITHAKA carries the hallmarks of a true Jongert – reliability, durability and safety, upmost comfort and luxury. All technical systems, particularly in the engine room, have been thoughtfully installed for easy access and maintenance. As a testament to Dutch yacht craftsmanship, ITHAKA is the embodiment of maritime excellence, maintained meticulously by her dedicated crew. Enjoyed in private ownership and never chartered, she is in impeccable condition, ready to sail the moment you step aboard. ITHAKA invites her next discerning family to embark on a journey around the world with unmatched comfort and performance.

South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands lie approximately 2,000 nm north of Antarctica and are a popular spot for Antarctica-bound cruise ships. But, says Ann, “There’s just nothing like the experience of coming here on your own.”

ithaka yacht owner

Ann’s full report to PAE staff about Ithaka ’s time in Grytviken, South Georgia, is below:

Tuesday, March 9, 2016 We arrived at Grytviken yesterday. The winds were whipping about at 30 to 40 knots as we docked. Three king penguins stood at attention as we tied up, and then marched away in single file. They’re are so funny! Hundreds of fur seals here. We used a bit more fuel getting here than we anticipated, but all is good. We are eliminating a few destinations to the south to cut back on the miles. We dived on the boat this morning to double check the set screws in the stern tube, and it is as it should be 🙂 12 yachts have come to South G. this year. We are the only motor yacht. Yeah Nordhavn! Tonight we are anchored in a very small cove, surrounding by high ridges. Fur seals and a few penguins on the beach. Tomorrow we will climb up and over to the next cove to hang out with the only Macaroni Penguin colony on the island. We should have a great shot of the boat in the cove. If I were to do this over (and I just may!), I would come with a fuel bladder in order to spend more time here. It’s so amazing. It’s ironic that my older brother is here in South Georgia at the same time, on a very ritzy cruise ship which is relatively small…125 passengers. But there’s just nothing like the experience of coming here on your own. Not only the accomplishment. But, today we hung out with the Grytviken staff sitting in the sun and having tea and cookies. We will return to Grytviken to help them do the 3rd seal pup weighing on Sunday. Four years ago, 5 pups were born in the base area in Grytviken. This year there were 55 pups born. They weigh them to see how they are developing. Tonight we are in a cove that only has enough room for one yacht. The fur seals are playing in the small surf, and you hear the mothers and pups calling one another. The gentoo penguins, which have a colony up the hill by a lake, are marching up a trail and over the hill. Time to go home for the night. The experience, and the opportunity to participate and to immerse oneself in the culture and environment is completely different when you travel on your own vessel. The cruise ship does exactly that—cruises through. So, the Nordhavn experience is not just flexibility and visiting places. It actually enables you to participate in the experience in a way that no tour or expedition allows.

Said PAE Vice President Jim Leishman: “We’re all really proud of Ann and Andy. It’s not only an accomplishment to figure out a plan, but to have the ambition and courage to pursue the adventure – and then achieve it – is extremely admirable. They have done something they’ll never forget.”

The Evans reached cruising royalty status earlier this year when they doubled around Cape Horn becoming the third Nordhavn to do so.

Captain: Clayton Corbin

Captain Clayton Corbin Captain Clayton grew up in a small town in the mid-west United States. Upon graduating High School, he set out on the high seas to travel the world, courtesy of the United States Navy. The sea and all things nautical would direct his path around the world. After a career serving as a Meteorologist and Oceanographer he and his wife decided to continue their travels cruising the world on their sailboat. Having become a sailing instructor in 2002 he continued to hone his skills in the busy sailing community of San Diego Bay Yacht racing and has been an avid sailor and cruiser ever since. Over the years, Captain Clayton has cruised the Caribbean, Mexico and the South Pacific Ocean, becoming an avid free diver and spear fisherman in the process. He and His wife live full time afloat and continuously pursue a life at sea! Chef Jill M Corbin Jill grew up along the Lincoln City coast of Oregon where she started cooking at a young age. Jill and Clayton married young and she fell in love with providing her family with healthy home cooked meals. While traveling around the world, Jill has enjoyed taking international cooking classes and learning the subtleties of different cultural cuisine. She enjoys preparing delicious meals and serving people great food. Jill has studied under Chef Briley Corbin, a Culinary Institute of America culinary science major and has had the privilege of working with Chef Richard Torres of Houston, Texas. Jill learned to sail 22 years ago while living in Yokosuka, Japan. Her love of sailing has never stopped. She has taught kids sailing camp and adult sailing through the US NAVY recreation programs. She was involved in supporting the Navy Yacht Club of San Diego as an active member for racing as well as performing race committee duties and has sailed in some of the most challenging races in Southern California. Clayton and Jill have been full time cruisers since 2016 and crossed the South Pacific Ocean to Australia along with multiple trips around the Caribbean. Jill’s passion for sailing hasn’t changed through the years as they have spent the last few years exploring the Eastern US, Caribbean, and South America. With this opportunity aboard Ithaka, they would like to inspire people to live the dream of sailing, and strengthen others' desire for life on the sea!

Chef Jill M Corbin

Jill grew up along the Lincoln City coast of Oregon where she started cooking at a young age.

";s:14:"yachtCrewPhoto";s:81:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht7419/7419brochure44.jpg";s:13:"yachtCrew1Pic";s:76:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht7419/7419crew1.jpg";s:13:"yachtCrew2Pic";s:76:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht7419/7419crew2.jpg";s:13:"yachtCrew3Pic";s:76:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht7419/7419crew3.jpg";s:13:"yachtCrew4Pic";s:76:"https://www.centralyachtagent.com/yachtadmin/yachtlg/yacht7419/7419crew4.jpg";s:13:"yachtCrew5Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew6Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew7Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew8Pic";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtCrew9Pic";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew10Pic";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew1Name";s:14:"Clayton Corbin";s:14:"yachtCrew2Name";s:11:"Jill Corbin";s:14:"yachtCrew3Name";s:24:"Captain Clay & Chef Jill";s:14:"yachtCrew4Name";s:24:"Captain Clay & Chef Jill";s:14:"yachtCrew5Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew6Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew7Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew8Name";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtCrew9Name";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew10Name";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew1Title";s:7:"Captain";s:15:"yachtCrew2Title";s:4:"Chef";s:15:"yachtCrew3Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew4Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew5Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew6Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew7Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew8Title";s:0:"";s:15:"yachtCrew9Title";s:0:"";s:16:"yachtCrew10Title";s:0:"";s:9:"yachtFlag";s:3:"USA";s:13:"yachtHomePort";s:16:"St. Thomas, USVI";s:14:"yachtWBasePort";s:16:"St. Thomas, USVI";s:8:"yachtRig";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtGrossTons";s:0:"";s:12:"yachtAcNight";s:3:"Yes";s:16:"yachtAcSurCharge";s:2:"No";s:9:"yachtTubs";s:1:"0";s:20:"yachtLocationDetails";s:110:"USVI Based, accepting BVI charters Inquire with CA about Spanish Virgin Islands and other Caribbean Islands";s:10:"yachtTerms";s:15:"Caribbean Terms";s:13:"yachtCaptOnly";s:3:"N/A";s:15:"yachtSpecialCon";s:0:"";s:14:"yachtContracts";s:0:"";s:21:"yachtConsumptionUnits";s:10:"US Gall/Hr";s:10:"yachtRange";s:0:"";s:11:"yachtPermit";s:1:"2";s:12:"yachtLicense";s:1:"2";s:8:"yachtMca";s:1:"0";s:16:"yachtDeepSeaFish";s:0:"";s:10:"yachtSatTv";s:2:"No";s:9:"yachtIpod";s:3:"Yes";s:10:"yachtVideo";s:0:"";s:17:"yachtSailInstruct";s:2:"No";s:13:"yachtInternet";s:12:"Onboard WIFI";s:16:"yachtCaptainOnly";s:3:"N/A";s:16:"yachtBrokerNotes";s:323:"TRAVEL AGENT: 20%

No commission on sleep aboard.

GRATUITY: Crew accepts cash, personal checks on US bank accounts and Paypal.

Owners address for contracts:
ZFG Nations, LLC
6136 Frisco Square Blvd, Suite 400
Frisco, TX 75034

";s:10:"yachtNumGC";i:20;s:13:"yachtGC1Title";s:25:"Best family vacation ever";s:8:"yachtGC1";s:852:"Captain Clayton & Chef Jill were fantastic the entire week. Thank you for mapping out such a great journey through the islands. We loved the snorkeling, kayaking, and birding. You both made it the perfect holiday! Captain Clayton & Briley were the perfect hosts - you absolutely catered (and anticipated) all our needs. The bays that we moored in were perfect for snorkeling, kayaking, swimming and relaxing (and eating and drinking and singing...) Thank you so much - we felt safe at all times and you showed us all the best parts of these islands. We loved the taco place and enjoyed the "floating band." Briley - food was amazing - and you catered to all our "food whims." That was special. We wish you continued amazing adventures. Only with you would captain (and cook) our next charter!!

And Captain - thank you for sharing your music and adventures with us. The 26.7 metre Jongert sailing yacht Ithaka has been listed for sale by Manfred Haas at Haas International .

Ithaka was was built by Dutch yard Jongert in aluminium to a Doug Peterson design and launched in 2007 as the fifth hull in the yard’s successful 2700M series. Lloyd’s classed, she has a modern interior in pear wood and accommodates six guests in three cabins including a master suite and two guest cabins.

The deck has been carefully designed for safe and easy operation. From behind the two steering wheels there is an unobstructed view around the yacht. In front of the steering positions a large outside seating area with two small cocktail tables offers a great leisure area.

The starboard table can moreover be lowered to create a much-appreciated lounge bed. Under power, a 257hp Scania engine gives her a cruising speed of eight knots.

U.S. Eyes $156 Million Yacht in Dubai Linked to a Russian Oligarch

The U.S. Justice Department is taking steps to seize the Madame Gu, a 324-foot luxury yacht, but it will be diplomatically thorny.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — On a clear morning in late October, the jewel-blue hull of the Madame Gu, one of the world’s most luxurious superyachts, gleamed, its aluminum rails shimmering in the sun. Workers on the pier said they had recently seen people painting, cleaning and generally keeping the ship with its helipad and six guest staterooms in pristine condition.

In past years, such a scene would not have been noteworthy. Many superyachts come and go from Dubai’s Mina Rashid Marina, best known as the home of the Queen Elizabeth 2, the trans-Atlantic ocean liner-turned-hotel that dominates the waterfront here.

But Russia’s war in Ukraine has turned an otherwise routine tableau into a diplomatic battleground between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, an important American ally that has established itself as a safe haven for Russian money and assets out of the reach of U.S. sanctions.

The $156 million Madame Gu epitomizes the problem. In June, the United States designated the vessel, which is linked to Andrei Skoch, a Russian steel magnate and lawmaker under sanctions, as blocked property. That means the yacht cannot use American companies for its upkeep, employ U.S. citizens or even use the dollar. The Justice Department is now taking steps to seize the Madame Gu, according to people with knowledge of the plan.

But the United States can’t seize property in a sovereign nation without permission from its government. The Emirates, which has taken a friendlier position toward Moscow, is balking at cooperating with the United States to pursue oligarchs, American officials said. The Kremlin is also using oligarch-controlled companies in the Emirates to acquire war supplies that the West is trying to keep out of Russia’s reach, according to a Western official involved in the sanctions effort against Russia.

Emirati officials did not comment specifically on the Madame Gu but said in a statement that they took their role “protecting the integrity of the global financial system extremely seriously.”

A closer examination of Russian assets in the Emirates shows that even before the war in Ukraine, Dubai had become a playground for Russians with links to President Vladimir V. Putin. At least 38 businessmen or officials with ties to the Russian president own homes in Dubai that are collectively valued at more than $314 million, according to the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. Five of those owners are under U.S. sanctions.

Since the Russian invasion, Dubai has established itself as a safe haven for Russian yachts and aircraft unable to sail or fly elsewhere. After Russian jets were barred from the European Union in late February, the Emirates became the destination for 14 percent of all private flights leaving Russia, up from 3 percent before the invasion.

“It’s frustrating when you see huge assets that are sitting out there and it appears that the country is not cooperating,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, referring to the Emirates. “It would be nice if there were more common cause against Putin while he’s busy shelling hospitals and schools.”

Mr. Whitehouse is sponsoring legislation that would use proceeds of the sales of seized Russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine. Senior officials at the Treasury and State Departments have also complained publicly about the situation.

U.S. officials view the presence of superyachts in places like Dubai and Bodrum, Turkey , as a symptom of wider Russian circumvention of sanctions and continued access to financial markets. Yachts have also come to symbolize the decadence of Russia’s oligarchs, especially at a time when Russian soldiers are scrounging for body armor and sleeping bags on the front lines.

Pursuing the Madame Gu

Built by the Dutch firm Feadship and put into service in 2013, the Madame Gu has a large helicopter pad on its forecastle with a hangar underneath that can double as a squash court when the chopper isn’t on board. The vessel has berthing for 36 crew members, according to one trade magazine.

Mr. Skoch, a member of Russia’s Parliament who is linked to assets worth billions of dollars, according to U.S. court filings, has had sanctions imposed on him twice by the United States, first in 2018 and then after Russia’s invasion this year. The Treasury Department has cited his “longstanding ties to Russian organized criminal groups.”

Mr. Skoch could not be reached and did not respond to messages left at his office at Parliament.

In an interview in October about the government’s broader efforts to go after the assets of oligarchs, Andrew Adams, a federal prosecutor leading the Department of Justice’s KleptoCapture task force, declined to discuss the Madame Gu. But the United States, he said, is warning companies they must not do business with individuals and assets under sanctions. The government, he said, will pursue oligarch-owned assets whose sale could be used to aid Ukraine.

“Where we know there is an asset that can potentially provide significant remuneration for Ukraine, that obviously is an attractive case to pursue,” he said.

U.S. officials are likely to use the case they made for impounding a $90 million Airbus business jet linked to Mr. Skoch in August as a blueprint for seizing the Madame Gu, said people familiar with the plan.

That means investigators will aim to show that the owner of the vessel, or the companies that have been providing services to it, have intersected with the U.S. financial system.

“If there are U.S. dollars or a U.S. nexus associated with supporting this vessel, massive enforcement actions could take place,” said Adam M. Smith, a former official overseeing sanctions at the Treasury Department. Companies that provide support to entities under sanctions could potentially face their own sanctions, said Mr. Smith, who is now a lawyer at Gibson Dunn in Washington.

This year the United States has carried out two high-profile seizures of yachts tied to Russians under sanctions, working with cooperative governments. The $300 million Amadea was taken in Fiji in May and sailed to San Diego under an American flag. In April, the United States worked with Spanish police to seize the $90 million Tango.

A Problematic Partner

Diplomatically, the Emirates has been reluctant to take a clear anti-Russian position when it comes to the war in Ukraine. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, recently met with Mr. Putin in St. Petersburg, and the Emirati foreign minister recently hosted his Russian counterpart. Yet Sheikh Mohammed has also talked with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, more than once and recently gave the country $100 million in humanitarian aid.

The United States has publicly expressed dismay over the mixed messages.

During a visit to Dubai in June, Wally Adeyemo, the U.S. deputy treasury secretary, warned of the need for vigilance and proactive steps in combating Russian evasion. That same month Barbara Leaf, the State Department’s under secretary for Near East Affairs, said at a congressional hearing that regarding the Emirates, she was “not happy at all with the record at this point” on sanctions enforcement. Mr. Adeyemo reiterated his concerns in a meeting with Emirati officials in October in Washington.

A senior State Department official said in a statement to The New York Times that the agency continues “to reinforce the importance of conducting enhanced due diligence to prevent sanctions evasion and investigating allegations of such activity” to the Emirates.

The Treasury Department declined to comment on the Madame Gu or the relationship with the Emirates.

Last month, the Treasury Department announced it had placed sanctions on an Emirates-based company, Constellation Advisors Ltd., that the American government said was operating on behalf of a nephew of another Russian oligarch, Suleiman Kerimov. Mr. Kerimov, according to American court documents, was the owner of the Amadea superyacht .

American officials are also worried the Russian government is using the Emirates to acquire military supplies for its war in Ukraine. On Nov. 15, the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on two Emirates-based transportation firms that had worked with another Iranian firm under sanctions, which in turn had helped transport drones and personnel from Iran to Russia.

Moored in Dubai

Based on a recent visit to Dubai’s Mina Rashid Marina , where the Madame Gu is moored, it is clear that international companies are playing a critical role in its care.

The Emirates-based company DP World, through its subsidiary P&O Marinas , oversees the pier where the Madame Gu is moored. Employees from another DP World subsidiary , World Security, staff the small guard box at the entrance. That makes DP World, which is owned by Dubai’s royal family, potentially vulnerable to American sanctions.

DP World “fully complies with all applicable local and national laws and intends to continue doing the same regarding the Madame Gu and other vessels utilizing our services,” said Adal Mirza, a spokesman for the company. He added that DP World had not yet heard from the United States or other countries that had placed Mr. Skoch under sanctions, including Britain and the European Union.

A generator set that dock workers said in late October was powering the Madame Gu — two container-like structures near its stern — bore the distinctive orange logo of Aggreko , a British company. The generator set was connected to the superyacht by thick cords; one of the containers was emitting grayish exhaust.

At the Mina Rashid Marina, soon after Aggreko was contacted by The Times, workers removed the generator. “Having identified that the generator was being used to power a vessel that is allegedly connected to a sanctioned person, we immediately terminated this rental and have since recovered the generator,” the company said in a statement.

Mr. Mirza, the DP World spokesman, said the Aggreko generator had been replaced with one from a local supplier.

P&O Marinas arranged for the diesel generator to provide power for the Madame Gu because that part of the pier, a holding area, has no shore-supplied electric power, said a port official in Dubai, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the press.

“At the end of the day, if the U.A.E. hasn’t imposed sanctions, it’s not really their job to enforce other countries’ laws within their borders,” said Nabeel Yousef, a Washington-based partner at the law firm Freshfields, where he runs the sanctions practice. Nevertheless, “companies should not take comfort in the fact that their country has not imposed sanctions,” he added, “because even the smallest connection to the U.S. can lead to U.S. penalties.”

There has also been a notable absence onboard the Madame Gu in recent weeks: a flag. Unlike other ships moored nearby, including the Quantum Blue, a superyacht linked to the billionaire Sergei Galitsky, the Madame Gu appears to be stateless, apparently having been deflagged by the Cayman Islands.

Cayman Islands officials didn’t respond to an emailed inquiry about the ship’s status.

If DP World were to face fallout from U.S. sanctions enforcers, it wouldn’t be the first time the company has been the focus of attention in Washington. In 2006, DP World was seeking to manage some terminal operations at six American ports but dropped out of the deal after a bipartisan uproar in Congress.

Our Coverage of the War in Ukraine

News and Analysis

The United States and six other major world powers warned Iran not to provide ballistic missiles to Russia to aid Moscow’s war against Ukraine and threatened to retaliate if it did by cutting off Iranian air travel to Europe, among other measures.

A U.N. commission said it had uncovered new evidence of widespread torture of Ukrainian prisoners held by Russian security forces, detailing a range of what it described as Russian war crimes, including summary executions and sexual violence.

Ukrainian authorities said that a Russian missile attack on Odesa had killed a t least 20 people and had injured 73 others , the latest in a series of deadly air assaults on the southern Ukrainian port city.

Targeting Russia’s Oil Industry: With its army short of ammunition and troops to break the deadlock on the battlefield, Kyiv has increasingly taken the fight beyond the Ukrainian border, attacking oil infrastructure deep in Russian territory .

Electronic Warfare: Drones have become a critical weapon for both Russia and Ukraine. But Moscow’s capability to overpower Ukrainian signals by broadcasting on the same frequencies at higher power is putting Kyiv at a disadvantage.

Helping the War Effort: Since the early days of the war, thousands of Ukrainian volunteers have led crowdfunding efforts that have been crucial in supplying the military with equipment. But as the conflict drags on, it is becoming harder to raise money .
