We enjoyed the most memorable wedding celebration at Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club. We truly can not say enough about Bob McSweeney, Rosemary and the entire staff including Abby the bridal attendant. From start to finish the service was amazing, the food unbelievable and all of the guests raved about the entire event. Thank you all! The E Family!!!
I feel compelled to write a review as a new member . The new owners have done an incredible job turning this most beautiful property around . They are personally involved in every detail. New flowers have been planted all over and look great. It is one of the nicest properties on the sound. My kids are now playing tennis and love the pros. The docks were redone over the winter and are great . It's a great place that has been restored to its former glory . Food is great too !
New owners this year whom have been spending a fortune to fix the place up which is evident throughout the grounds. They have rebuilt all of the cabanas, installed new showers and changing areas by the pool, new tennis locker room with lunge area, refurbished the entire pool area, replaced the main clubhouse roof and made the grounds nicer with new plantings, adding new grass area and replacing all the playground equipment. I was there today as guests of members and the entire staff was attentive and extremely nice. The new owners and management were everywhere on the grounds making sure not only the guests were happy but that the staff were happy and being treated well, which is a nice sign. It is evident the new ownership and management know the hospitality business and what it takes to keep members happy and to make a nice piece of property well served for a club. Lifeguard staff raking the beach throughout the day and making sure the kids playing in the water were safe. Definitely a Yacht, tennis and beach club on the up and up.
Racist racist racist! After visiting multiple venues this was the worst sales pitch I had. The sales lady is the most craziest person I've ever met. She started by low balling me at $90 a person plus all they're taxes and fees. Which sounds great.. Right? Nope she crossed off half the things they offer. She didn't even bother to state the rest. Who is she to tell me what I want or what j can afford. What topped it off was when she stated.. "I don't know where your from but we offer burgers and tacos"... I told you she was crazy. I just wanted to walk out the room. Then she mentioned the $2500 down payment once again. Which proved to me what she just said was perfectly fine. Clearly I won't be getting married here. The outdoor area is what your really paying for. The interior is out of date and needs to be renovated. For such a great view the venue does it absolutely no justice.

Regardless of your choice, we wish you the very best and are certain that your event will be a wonderful one!
The tennis program is fabulous so friendly Roman and the staff are the best. The beach is breathtaking and they serve food on the beach. I'm so glad I joined
Unresponsive and unprofessional. My fiance and I toured the venue a few weeks back with an unprofessional, unprepared teenager. Despite that we were still interested. We reached out to receive a formal proposal, no response. Three emails later and still nothing. We were actually interested in booking, but their staff doesn't seem to care. Why should giving a venue my money be so difficult? If they are this unprofessional now, I can't even imagine how bad it would have been during our wedding day. Don't waste your time.

For Mamaroneck Yacht Club, a Decade of Clashing Views on Preserving Vistas
Boat slips at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club, which was put on the market in April.
At the club’s peak, about 300 families had memberships. That number has steadily fallen to barely 100.
To revive the club, Lisa Rosenshein’s father, Bernard, came up with the idea a decade ago to build seasonal apartments in place of many of the cabanas.
A small beach area at the club, which is on Long Island Sound. The proposed seasonal residences have been the subject of fierce debate and litigation.
Mamaroneck Harbor, as seen from the clubhouse. Opponents fear a domino effect if the club builds residences that would push out maritime users.

MAMARONECK, N.Y. — Even on a quiet weekday afternoon in April, sloops, schooners, motorboats and yachts glide out through the mouth of the river that gives this village of 20,000 on Long Island Sound its name. Just as traffic picks up on the roads after work, the waters become more crowded — sailors who happen to be lawyers, bankers and plumbers sneaking in one good float before dinner.
“Welcome to paradise,” Lisa Rosenshein said, standing on the wraparound deck of the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club . “What more could you ask for?”
A lot more, it turns out. Her family has owned the club, with its squat concrete cabanas framing the regal clubhouse, a former manor designed by Stanford White , since 1979. Membership peaked around that time and has steadily fallen from about 300 families to barely a third of that today.
To revive the club, Ms. Rosenshein’s father, Bernard, came up with the idea a decade ago to build seasonal apartments in place of many of the cabanas, a remnant from when the estate became a club in 1952. They would rise alongside a new health club, a boathouse and an expansion of the clubhouse, which would return it to its former grandeur; a fire in 1971 reduced the manor from three stories to two.
“Clubs are struggling, people are traveling, they’re socializing differently,” Ms. Rosenshein said, “and we’re trying to figure out what people are expecting from a 21st-century club.”
Yet one person’s lifeboat may be another’s destroyer. The club’s plan to save itself has spawned years of protests, public review and litigation — a not-in-my-backwater battle over property rights, development and whether a sleepy institution should be required to remain just that.
“We’ve seen it happen in Greenwich, we’ve seen it happen in Larchmont, we’ve seen it happen up and down the sound,” said Keith Waitt, who lives across Otter Creek from the club and has expansive views of the sound that could be blocked. “Once the development starts, it can be hard to stop it, and before you know it, the public waterfront is gone.”
In the 1980s, not long after the Rosensheins bought their club, the village began formalizing a waterfront revitalization plan for this community of Gilded Age estates on the water and unassuming middle- and upper-middle-class homes farther inland.
The goal was to preserve the three yacht clubs around the harbor — Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club and two on the south side of the river — and a number of boat yards, yacht brokerages and other maritime uses lining the waterfront. As a result, none of the properties could undertake commercial development not directly tied to boating.
Whether the seasonal residences the Rosensheins have proposed fit this mold or break it has created numerous disputes and lawsuits. The 18 units, down from an initial 60, would range in size from roughly 500 to 1,200 square feet, with kitchenettes and one to two bedrooms. They would be available only from April through November, which is seen as ensuring they do not become permanent residences.
Ms. Rosenshein said they would offer an alternative for families who wanted an easier escape than the Hamptons, and an option for former snowbirds who have retired to the South but still wanted a place to stay during the summers.
But that violates the letter, or at least the spirit, of the waterfront plan, said Dan Natchez, president of the Shore Acres Neighborhood Association. Why, he asked, should the yacht club be offering overnight accommodation “if these clubs were established to benefit the local community, if that is why the zoning exists as it does?”
Yard signs declaring no “Condos on Our Creek” line South Barry Road, the main access point to the club (and one that becomes quite busy during weddings and bar mitzvahs there).
Ms. Rosenshein bristles whenever she drives past the signs. “They’re not condos,” she said. “They’re rentals, and they’re not being built on the creek.”
The opponents fear a domino effect. If Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club builds residences to be used for eight months, another club or boat yard might attempt development that is even more permissive, and before long, no maritime users will be left. They point to the nearby Hampshire Country Club, whose current owners have begun pressing the village to allow the construction of 121 condos on a section of the property, which would keep its golf course intact, or else they would begin plans to replace the entire course with 106 single-family homes.
As for the Rosensheins, their adversaries say their promise of closing the homes in the off-season is not to be believed. They cite a history of what they call untrustworthy behavior, including the illegitimate creation of a breakwater for the marina without a permit and the fact that of the roughly 150 events held at the club a year, many appear to be for nonmembers. The 1985 waterfront plan allows for at most 20 percent of income from events, but the club’s tax returns show the catering business brings in millions more than memberships do.
Ms. Rosenshein said she had all the necessary approvals for additional events, and she held up the club’s success six times in court as evidence that it was operating aboveboard. After settlement of the most recent lawsuit, the club is waiting for final approval from the village board; it already has preliminary approval.
“Any community that doesn’t grow will die from atrophy,” said Mayor Norman Rosenblum, who supports the plan, “but you can’t destroy the character of the village that people moved here for in the first place. I think we’ve struck the right balance.”
Two weeks ago, the Rosensheins began quietly marketing the property, along with the blueprints and the approvals they had spent a decade fighting for. “We’re exploring all our options,” said Ms. Rosenshein, whose father died in 2011 and who splits ownership with two sisters. “This was really Dad’s thing, and we’re looking for new opportunities.”
Some neighbors have settled their differences with the club, but others still have reservations. If a developer buys it, “who knows what they will try to do,” Mr. Waitt said.

BEST VENUE EVER
My sister got married here 10 years ago- seeing the venue in 2023, it was totally redone with a new deck. Bob and his team were absolutely amazing! So professional and really accommodating for our big Italian Greek wedding!! So easy to work with and the venue is just gorgeous. Beautiful views for cocktail hour, the reception room over looking the water with the boats, and a perfect place for pictures! I am so happy we had our wedding here! If I could do it again, I would stick with exactly what we did at Mamaroneck!
MBYC Is a DREAM Wedding Venue!
I can't say enough positive things about MBYC. For starters, it is a beautiful little haven on the Long Island Sound, only a short drive outside of NYC. Our guests raved about how beautiful the venue is. However, the main reason that our wedding was so flawless was Bob McSweeney. Bob is the Director of Events at MBYC and he runs an extremely tight ship while being gracious and kind. He is extremely responsive to emails, no matter the time of day. He was flexible with everything and ensured that all of the logistics were communicated consistently and ahead of time. On the day of the wedding, he managed all of the vendors and the flow of events like a master. It truly went off without a hitch because of Bob. The food was also absolutely amazing, from the appetizers, to the steak, to the seabass, and the dessert table. Lastly, Abby was my bridal attendant and she was the most attentive person I could have ever dreamed of. She was always there, even when I didn't need her, and was supportive to me the entire night. I can't thank the entire staff enough for such an amazing wedding. It was truly a dream and I would recommend it to everyone!!

Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club sold
The Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht club was sold this week, according to Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty.
How much the the waterfront beach club was sold for wasn't released. The latest offer was for $10 million, according to the real estate company.
THE STORY BEHIND THE BOAT: 'Ghost ship' floats in Mamaroneck Harbor
RALPH'S: It's official: Ralph's returning to Mamaroneck
Arlene Gibbs, the Sotheby's real estate agent who brokered the deal, couldn't immediately be reached for comment on Saturday but said in a statement that she was "honored" to represent the Rosenshein family, who has owned the club since the late 1970s.
"I was honored to represent the wonderful Rosenshein family in this important transaction and help to secure the buyers, who will now begin the club's next chapter and create a new vision for this waterfront jewel on the Long Island Sound," Gibbs said in a statement. "It's a beach lover's paradise in a setting like no other, right outside New York City."
When reached by phone on Saturday, Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy said, "Since the land is zoned for marine recreation, the village looks forward to working with the new owner to facilitate running a club in a responsible fashion providing quasi-public access to the waterfront."
The Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club is located at the end of S. Barry Avenue, on the tip of the peninsula overlooking the Long Island Sound.

Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club Wedding
“We met on the rooftop of our building. It was an unseasonably warm March day, but since it was midweek, Adam and I were the only two people outside.I remember getting outside being so excited to get out in the sun, only to realize it was too early in the year for the lounge chairs to be set up. Adam must have seen me looking frantically for somewhere to lay, and came up to me to help me bring a lounge chair outside. We struck up conversation and had a really easy time talking to each other and getting to know one another. I remember going home and trying to google him and look him up. I couldn’t remember his last name so I was busy searching for key words to find him! Later that night he called me and asked me out to dinner. I remember being shocked that he actually called instead of texted. It was refreshing to see someone actually put a little effort into it.”
The Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club is one of our favorite wedding venues to shoot in Westchester County, NY. With their beautiful nautical dock, their beach, a shaded tree area, and the Club itself, it gives our couples a diversified portfolio of images for their wedding day.
Danielle and Adam’s Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club wedding was one of our favorites to date! Everything happened at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club, from Danielle and Adam’s preps, to their first look (which we did on the dock), to the photo sessions, ceremony, and reception.
Although the weather started rainy, by their first look the rain stopped and we were left with a nice blanket of overcast skies. We enjoyed getting to know Danielle, Adam, their parents and siblings, and of course, their friends! We wish them nothing but happiness!

Unveiling the Legacy of Norman Chapman
When one thinks of influential figures in the world of art and design, Norman Chapman may not be the first name that comes to mind. However, his contributions to the field have left a lasting impact that is still felt today. Known for his innovative and forward-thinking approach, Chapman’s work pushed the boundaries of traditional design and paved the way for future generations of artists.
- Chapman’s early work in the 1950s was marked by his unique use of color and form. He was not afraid to experiment with different mediums and techniques, resulting in a body of work that was both diverse and cohesive.
- His later work in the 1970s and 1980s saw a shift towards more minimalist designs, with a focus on functionality and simplicity. Despite this change in style, Chapman’s work remained distinctly his own, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and attention to detail.
In addition to his contributions to the world of art and design, Chapman was also a respected educator. He taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago . His teachings have influenced countless artists and designers, many of whom have gone on to achieve great success in their own right.
Chapman’s legacy continues to inspire and influence the art and design world. His work is a reminder that creativity knows no bounds, and that true innovation comes from breaking away from the expected and embracing the unknown.
Exploring the Impact of Chapman’s Work on Modern Art
Norman Chapman’s work is often seen as a bridge between the traditional and the contemporary, blending classical techniques with modern themes. His influence on the art world can be seen in numerous ways, from the way he approached color and form, to his innovative use of materials. Chapman’s work challenged the norms of his time, pushing the boundaries of what was considered acceptable in the art world.
One of the most significant impacts of Chapman’s work is his exploration of the human form. He was known for his bold and expressive use of line, creating dynamic and powerful figures that resonated with viewers. Chapman’s work also often included elements of abstraction, blending realism with more conceptual ideas. This approach has inspired many contemporary artists, who have taken Chapman’s ideas and expanded on them in their own work.
- Use of vibrant and bold colors
- Innovative approach to mixed media
- Exploration of social and political themes
Chapman’s legacy can also be seen in the way he approached the role of the artist in society. He was known for his activism and used his art as a platform to address social and political issues. This has encouraged many modern artists to use their work as a means of sparking conversation and effecting change. Chapman’s work continues to be an important influence in the art world, inspiring artists to push the limits of what is possible.
Norman Chapman: A Pioneer in Abstract Expressionism
Norman Chapman was a trailblazer in the world of abstract expressionism. His bold use of color, texture, and form set him apart from his contemporaries and established him as a leader in the movement. His innovative techniques and fearless experimentation with new materials pushed the boundaries of what was considered “acceptable” in the art world.
Chapman’s early work was heavily influenced by the likes of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, but he quickly developed his own unique style. His large-scale canvases were filled with dynamic, gestural brushstrokes and a vibrant palette that captured the energy and emotion of the post-war era.
- Inspired by jazz music, Chapman often painted to the sounds of bebop and hard bop, infusing his work with a sense of rhythm and movement.
- He was also known for his use of non-traditional materials, such as sand and broken glass, which added texture and depth to his pieces.
- Despite facing criticism from more traditional art critics, Chapman remained steadfast in his vision and continued to push the limits of abstract expressionism.
Chapman’s impact on the art world cannot be understated. His influence can be seen in the work of countless artists who followed in his footsteps, and his paintings continue to be celebrated in galleries and museums around the world.
Through his work, Norman Chapman challenged viewers to see beyond the traditional boundaries of art and to find beauty in the chaos and complexity of the abstract world.
