About the General Jackson Showboat

The General Jackson is one of the largest Nashville boat and river cruises in the country and its dock is found on the Cumberland River. Having launched its cruises in 1985, it has provided quality entertainment, live music, and fun to visitors for more than three decades. It is named after the first steamboat to travel in Nashville in 1817. Thousands of people have enjoyed this famous attraction, which is famous for its stately design and special event cruises, drawing in thousands of travelers every year to view its entertainment options. The boat itself has a lot of stunning features, with a length of 274 feet and a towering height of 55 feet, massive decks, and stunning views.

The Nashville river boat can carry up to 1,037 passengers and 135 crew at a time during max capacity. It also features one of the largest paddlewheels that is 36 feet long and 24 feet in diameter. Just the paddlewheel weighs 36,000 pounds! This massive boat has a total weight of 1,489 tons. It travels at an average speed of approximately 5 - 8 miles per hour. The boat is comprised of four decks, which hold features such as the Heritage Hall, a gift shop, the Victorian Theater with a sit-down dining area and comfortable seating, balconies, and tons of outside viewing opportunities. Gaylord Opryland has a manmade river running through it, so you gotta ride on the Delta Riverboat to get the full resort experience. The boat ride lasts about 15 minutes, goes slow enough but isn't too slow, and it's a good activity for all ages. We've been on this boat ride a few times. The first time was just a general ride, where we went around the river and the boat driver told us some trivia about the hotel. He pointed out things, such as a red line that indicated where the water level rose to in the hotel during a particularly bad storm many years ago. Throughout the year, they'll offer themed boat rides, like a Pirates & Princesses boat ride, with costumed actors you meet along the way. We also got some treasure at the end (a chocolate gold coin)! There are lots of fun things for individuals and families to do at Gaylord Opryland, and this is one of them.

We loved this boat ride, our tour guide was wonderful. When we bought tickets, the girl said you get a discount if you are staying at the resort. We were staying across the street and did pay a resort fee, so the guide said we should get the discount. The clerk really didn't want to give us $3 off our ride, but our friendly guide insisted. There are waterfalls and so many beautiful trees and plants in Opryland and this is a great way to see it. Great for adults and kids.

Country music duo pays a visit to ole red bar with their ‘the voice’ chair prior to their bridgestone arena concert..

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Country music duo Dan+Shay surprised fans Thursday afternoon just hours before their hometown show at Bridgestone Arena.

The pair is currently on their “The Heartbreak on the Map” tour and serving as judges of Season 25 of The Voice . They are the first coach duo on the show. Eight episodes have already aired as they enter Week 2 of Battle Rounds Monday, March 25. Live shows of The Voice begin in May.

“Something special about The Voice is that you truly are going on just their voice and the way they can move you - you know, without actually seeing someone,” says Shay Mooney, lead vocalist of Dan+Shay.

The pair took the stage at Ole Red bar on Broadway to greet fans and also take a surprise video phone call from Voice veteran and Ole Red owner Blake Shelton. The crowd gasped and cheered when Shelton appeared on the big screen.

“We’re seeing things from a different perspective right now. We don’t ‘have to’ go play a show, we don’t ‘have to’ go on tour, we ‘get to go do these things,’ and I feel like we’ve taken that perspective to The Voice ,” shared Dan Smyers in an exclusive interview with WSMV4′s Lauren Lowrey. “We have the power with this little button to potentially make someone’s dreams come true, and that’s awesome!”

The exact chairs used for the show are on display from March 20-22 at Ole Red in downtown Nashville.

“I can genuinely say I’ve never had this much fun touring,” remarked Mooney.
