What To Wear On A Yacht featured image by the supermelon

Attending a yacht party calls for a blend of sophisticated style and relaxed elegance, capturing the essence of the nautical setting while ensuring your comfort and confidence.

Whether envisioning a glamorous sunset cocktail party, a leisurely sunbathing session, or a serene exploration of hidden coves, curating the perfect yacht ensemble becomes an art.

This guide navigates the realm of yacht fashion, offering insights and inspiration to ensure you’re impeccably dressed for every moment of your nautical experience.

From chic essentials that capture the essence of oceanic elegance to tips on selecting attire that harmonizes with both sea and sky, the following are the style essentials to elevate your yacht experience to unparalleled heights.

yacht chic attire

Yacht settings generally adhere to a semi-formal dress code, implying that items like shorts, flip-flops, or t-shirts are best avoided. Instead, consider selecting slacks or khakis for men; sundresses, jumpsuits, or skirts are excellent choices for women.

When in doubt about your attire, it’s preferable to lean towards a more polished appearance rather than a casual one.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

When dressing for a yacht outing, opt for a nautical-inspired ensemble. Consider wearing a crisp white shirt paired with tailored shorts, boat shoes or espadrilles, and a sun hat.

This classic look combines comfort and style, suitable for both genders, while capturing the essence of a yacht setting.

Before finalizing your outfit for the boat party, there are a couple of factors to consider, with the first being the prevailing weather conditions. If the temperature is soaring, opting for lightweight and breathable fabrics is paramount.

Donning stylish swimsuits is integral to yacht party attire, accompanied by chic cover-ups and delicate, breezy dresses or shorts. By skillfully coordinating these elements, you can effortlessly master the art of yacht-worthy fashion.

However, in the event of cooler temperatures, ensuring you’re well-insulated is imperative. Being caught unprepared amidst the vast ocean during fall or winter could prove quite uncomfortable.

Moreover, regardless of the schedule, having a sweatshirt or a light denim jacket at the ready is prudent, particularly when the night descends.

The maritime environment can turn quite chilly after sunset, especially during the colder months.

Furthermore, your outfit choice should be tailored to the specific activities planned aboard the yacht. If your plan revolves around leisurely moments on the boat’s deck, a combination of shorts and a T-shirt layered over a stylish bikini is likely suitable.

However, should water sports be part of the agenda, selecting attire that remains relatively dry and light prevents any undue discomfort caused by excess moisture.

Lastly, take into consideration the overarching ambiance of the yacht setting. For a laid-back gathering, opting for a more relaxed outfit is acceptable.

However, if the occasion leans towards a more refined tone, it’s essential to align your attire accordingly.

Midi or maxi dresses and stylish rompers and jumpsuits are excellent choices that seamlessly blend sophistication with style.

Essential attire for women at a yachting event includes cover-ups, tunics, kaftans, and dresses with a fluid, breezy quality. These pieces harmonize seamlessly with swimwear, offering both a stylish layer and a means of keeping cool and comfortable.

Opting for a maxi or lace cover-up exudes an elevated charm, while selecting a sundress cover-up or a romper lends a more relaxed aura. For everyday yacht wear, consider the practicality of linen dresses and side tie skirts, both of which effortlessly complement the maritime experience.

yacht chic attire

No looks exudes the maritime quite like a cover-up, and these lightweight garments serve as a stylish and functional layering option when transitioning between water-based activities and lounging on the beach or on a yacht. Cover-ups are typically made from materials like chiffon, cotton, linen, or lightweight knits, which make them breathable and comfortable in warm weather. Moreover, cover-ups offer protection from the sun’s rays while maintaining an air of sophistication. The following are common cover-ups for women:

yacht chic attire

With their loose and flowing silhouettes, tunics further amplify a great seaside look. They often feature intricate designs, embroidery, or patterns and can be made from lightweight materials like cotton, linen, or sheer fabrics.

Tunics provide coverage for the upper body while allowing air to circulate, keeping you cool. Their effortless charm pairs well with the nautical backdrop, allowing women to exude both comfort and elegance.

yacht chic attire

Kaftans are loose-fitting, maxi-length dresses with wide sleeves, often made from flowing fabrics like chiffon, silk, or lightweight cotton. Kaftans can be quite elegant and are popular for their bohemian vibe. They offer women full coverage and the ultimate in  comfort during warm weather.

yacht chic attire

Slay it with a sarong!

Typically made from lightweight, quick-drying materials like rayon or silk, sarongs are versatile pieces of fabric that can be wrapped around the waist like a skirt, tied as a halter dress, or used as a shawl. Sarongs are easy to pack and provide coverage while allowing flexibility in styling.

yacht chic attire

Inspired by traditional Japanese clothing, kimonos are open-front, flowing garments that often feature vibrant prints and patterns and are made from lightweight materials.

Kimonos are distinctive, add a touch of elegance, and can be worn over swimsuits or paired with shorts and tops.

Oversized Shirts

yacht chic attire

For a more casual approach, an oversized button-up shirt can be worn as a cover-up. It’s a versatile option that can be worn open or buttoned up, offering coverage and protection from the sun.

Play up the look with vibrant colors or intricate patterns for an engaging yacht style.

Is a cocktail dress a suitable choice for women?

For occasions leaning towards the more refined end of the spectrum, a sophisticated yacht party might very well warrant the selection of a cocktail dress, or in rarer instances, an elegant gown. The cocktail dress code, being slightly less formal than full evening wear, aligns well with such gatherings’ relaxed yet stylish atmosphere.

Ideally, the event’s formality level will be communicated beforehand, but exceptions do exist.

When the ambiance is less formal than a boat wedding, alternative options like wide-legged pants, rompers, or wrap skirts can be considered. Attire resembling what you would choose for a beach or poolside gathering would also be fitting.

An essential consideration when attending any yacht event is the choice of footwear. It’s advisable to steer clear of heels – opting for flat shoes is a safer and wiser choice to ensure a comfortable and accident-free experience.

Yacht Shoe Ideas for Women

Accessorizing.

Donning both hats and sunglasses is entirely fitting aboard a yacht, and they provide an added shield against the sun’s rays, which is undoubtedly beneficial.

Not only will you seamlessly blend in, but you’ll also be safeguarding your eyes and skin from potentially harmful UV exposure. Including sunscreen in your essentials is equally crucial to ensure comprehensive protection.

yacht chic attire

Amongst men, the favored ensemble for yacht journeys in motion often comprises a breezy, lightweight linen shirt, offering both comfort and composure throughout the excursion. Naturally, a pair of swim shorts is indispensable, ensuring you’re perpetually prepared for impromptu dips.

Completing the ensemble, opt for casual boat shoes that complement your yacht attire seamlessly.

Stylish sunglasses are essential to the maritime look as a vital accessory, effectively shielding your eyes from the sun’s glare.

While specific occasions may necessitate more refined apparel, such as dinner parties, these suggestions primarily focus on curating a laidback, relaxed aesthetic.

yacht chic attire

Linen button-downs stand as the preferred choice for men while onboard due to their lightweight and breathable nature.

They have long been associated with boating, ensuring a harmonious fit within a yacht environment. Light cotton options also offer similar advantages, with items like polo shirts seamlessly blending into a crowd.

Even a well-chosen t-shirt can find its place, though appropriateness should be tailored to the context. However, a slightly elevated appearance may be preferable for slightly more formal outings or celebratory gatherings.

A great pair of tailored pants are a definite option for a day or night out on a yacht. Linen pants , chinos, or loose slacks are all versatile enough for any event.

Yet, a reliable pair of shorts proves invaluable if the yacht’s purpose involves active endeavors like fishing or sailing.

These offer comfort and freedom and ensure readiness for any unforeseen water-related situations.

In the realm of yacht wear, swim shorts emerge as a particularly pertinent item, given the likelihood of aquatic escapades. Whether you find yourself plunging into the Mediterranean or relaxing a jacuzzi, shorts are a pragmatic must-have.

Be it for leisure or the potential of an emergency scenario requiring a swift swim, swim shorts serve both purposes seamlessly.

Ensuring both security and comfort, boat shoes are an indispensable inclusion for any yacht experience as they prevent unwanted slipping on the deck. Sometimes referred to as deck shoes, they closely resemble loafers but include laces for added practicality.

For more relaxed outings, some opt for flip flops, which can be suitable for casual days spent with friends.

Accessories

Wearing sunglasses aboard a yacht transcends mere fashion, assuming the role of a vital shield against the sun’s unyielding glare and potentially harmful UV rays. As you sail on a maritime journey, these shades emerge as a reliable companion, diligently safeguarding your eyes from discomfort and potential long-term harm.

Whether you’re leisurely absorbing the sun’s warmth or actively engaging in water-based thrills, sunglasses exude an undeniable air of refined elegance, effortlessly elevating your yacht ensemble.

What Is Suitable to Wear to a Yacht Party?

Crafting the perfect attire for a yacht party involves a skillful equilibrium among comfort, style, and functionality, seamlessly embracing the maritime setting.

Embracing an effortlessly chic and laid-back approach, the careful curation of your outfit can significantly enrich your voyage across the waves.

Deciding on fabrics that prioritize breathability and lightness, such as linen or cotton, ensures your ease amidst the sea breeze. In the backdrop of daytime gatherings, a palette of soft and pastel hues, including serene blues and delicate pastels, imparts an invigorating and lively ambiance.

Opting for a versatile piece like a fashionable sundress, coupled with boat shoes that perfectly balance comfort and trendiness, encapsulates the essence of casual sophistication.

As twilight descends and the festivities extend into the evening, embracing darker shades introduces an element of refinement, harmonizing with the fading sunlight.

The thoughtful inclusion of tasteful accessories, like a wide-brimmed hat for enhanced sun protection and stylish sunglasses that shield your eyes and accentuate your maritime charisma, further elevate your ensemble.

Ultimately, the crux lies in aligning your attire with the occasion’s level of formality, while never compromising on comfort, and embodying an aesthetic that mirrors the serene allure of open waters.

Final Considerations

Embracing a fusion of refinement and casual ease emerges as a simple and effective strategy when considering yacht attire. While certain occasions might warrant a subtle refinement, the extent of this shift hinges upon the unique event and the preferences of the hosts.

Give precedence to fabrics like linen and other lightweight options to optimize comfort. An indispensable element to include is a pair of boat shoes, guaranteeing stability on the deck. Additionally, ensure you don’t neglect key essentials such as swimsuits and vital sun protection gear, which notably includes sunglasses.

What to Wear on a Yacht in 2023: A Smart Fashion Guide

What to Wear on a Yacht

Introduction:

Planning a yacht trip? Before you embark on your nautical adventure, you’re likely to ask yourself: what to wear on a yacht? Whether you’re attending a glamorous yacht party, cruising the open waters, or basking in the sun on the deck, dressing appropriately and stylishly is key. In this comprehensive fashion guide, we’ll navigate through the latest trends and timeless classics to help you find the perfect yacht-worthy attire. So, let’s dive in and discover what to wear on a yacht!

Opt for Nautical-Inspired Outfits:

To blend seamlessly with the maritime ambiance, consider incorporating nautical-inspired elements into your attire. Classic navy and white stripes, anchor motifs, and crisp blue hues evoke a sense of timeless elegance. Choose a Breton striped top paired with white shorts or a navy blue dress for a chic, effortless look.

Embrace Light and Breezy Fabrics:

Yacht trips often involve warm weather and plenty of sun, so it’s crucial to choose fabrics that keep you cool and comfortable. Opt for lightweight and breathable materials like linen, cotton, and silk. These fabrics allow air to circulate, ensuring you stay fresh and stylish even in the heat.

Don Stylish Swimwear:

When packing for your yacht adventure, be sure to include stylish swimwear. Opt for high-quality swimsuits that flatter your figure and make you feel confident. Classic one-pieces or trendy bikinis in vibrant colors or chic patterns are always a good choice. Don’t forget to pack a stylish cover-up or kaftan for when you’re not in the water.

Don’t Forget Sun Protection:

When it comes to what to wear on a yacht, protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays is essential, especially when spending long hours on a yacht. Incorporate accessories like wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses with UV protection, and lightweight scarves to shield your face and neck. Additionally, don’t forget to apply sunscreen with a high SPF to exposed areas of your skin.

Choose Comfortable Footwear:

Opt for footwear that balances comfort and style. Deck shoes, boat shoes, or espadrilles are excellent choices for their non-slip soles and maritime aesthetics. If you prefer sandals, opt for ones with good arch support and secure straps. Avoid high heels as they can be impractical and unsafe on a moving yacht.

Layer Up with Versatile Pieces:

Yacht trips often entail varying weather conditions, so it’s wise to bring versatile clothing items that can be layered. Lightweight cardigans, wraps, or linen shirts can be easily thrown over your outfit if the weather gets cooler or for protection against evening breezes.

Dress Smartly for Evening Affairs:

If you’re attending a yacht party or planning a special evening event on board , embrace a more sophisticated attire. Opt for elegant cocktail dresses, tailored linen suits, or stylish jumpsuits. Remember to choose breathable fabrics to ensure your comfort throughout the night.

Conclusion:

When it comes to what to wear on a yacht, striking a balance between style, comfort, and practicality is key. Nautical-inspired outfits, light and breathable fabrics, stylish swimwear, and sun protection essentials should be at the top of your packing list. Additionally, comfortable footwear and versatile layering pieces will ensure you’re prepared for any weather conditions. By following this fashion guide, you’ll be ready to sail the seas in style, exuding confidence and elegance during your yacht adventure!

Setting Sail with Style: Essential Boat Day Attire Tips

1. The Art of Simplicity  While bringing out our most glamorous looks is tempting, let’s keep it grounded on the boat. Think about the winds that might unravel intricate hairstyles or the splashes that could surprise you mid-journey. The simpler, the better. Trust me, you’ll be more relaxed; there’s nothing more enchanting than a carefree soul on a boat!

2. Footwear Fundamentals  On one boat trip, I decided to wear my favorite suede sandals, and let’s say they didn’t remain my favorite for long. Oops! So, here’s a golden rule: always opt for non-slip, waterproof flat sandals. Not only will they keep you steady during those unexpected choppy waters, but they’ll also be safe from any unplanned splashes. And if you’re on a yacht or a similar fancy vessel? Be prepared to go barefoot!

3. Evening Elegance  Ever found yourself on a boat, gazing at a spectacular sunset, only to be interrupted by an unexpected chill? Yep, been there. Always bring along a lightweight jacket or wrap. Trust me, as the sun sets, the temperature can dip quicker than you think, especially with that sea breeze.

4. Daytime Essentials  Nothing dampens a boat day like squinting against the blinding sun or chasing after a hat stolen by the wind. So, grab a snug-fitting hat and some sunglasses. You’ll be grateful for the shade and the added protection against those sneaky UV rays.

5. Sun Protection is Key . One sunny boat day, I learned that water can amplify sunburns. (Hello, unexpected tan lines!) So, always,  always  lather up on that sunscreen. Those UV rays can be sneaky even if you’re lounging in the shade.

6. Be Prepared  If your boat day involves a dip in the water, be an intelligent sailor and bring a change of clothes and a towel. I’ve learned from experience that sitting in a wet outfit is not the most pleasant feeling.

Setting sail should be all about relaxation and fun. So with these tips in your fashion arsenal, you’re ready for a stylish and comfy boat day adventure. Happy sailing!

How to decide what to wear on a yacht

What activities will you be doing.

To determine what you should wear on a yacht, first think about the activities you will be doing. Will you be swimming? Snorkeling? Jet skiing? or simply relaxing on the deck? Each activity requires different clothing and accessories for comfort.

For example, you’ll want to bring a swimsuit if you are swimming or jet skiing. However, if it’s a more formal event, such as dinner and dancing, you’ll want to wear more dressier attire.

What is the weather like?

The weather is also an important factor in what to wear on a yacht. If it’s hot and sunny, shorts and t-shirt might be best. If it’s cold or raining, you may want to bring extra layers like a jacket or windbreaker that you can take off if it gets too hot.

What does the dress code say?

It’s also important to check for any dress codes that may be in place. If you’re attending a fancy event on the yacht, your attire should reflect it – don’t forget to check for any requirements, such as wearing formal attire or a specific color dress.

FAQ: What to wear on a yacht

Can you wear jeans on a yacht.

While there is no one-size-fits-all answer, it’s important to take into consideration the type of yacht you’ll be visiting and the occasion.

For casual trips aboard smaller vessels and day cruises, wearing jeans can be acceptable, depending on the context. For example, if the outing includes activities such as swimming or kayaking, a lightweight pair of jeans might be more suitable than something more formal.

What do you wear on a yacht day trip?

When it comes to dressing for a yacht day trip, comfort is key. Opt for comfortable yet stylish pieces that won’t limit your mobility. While Stiletto heels are not ideal for a day on the boat, sandals or wedges with good grip are perfect choices.

Additionally, dresses, skirts, rompers, and jumpsuits are great options to wear on a yacht day trip. You can opt for lightweight fabrics like cotton and linen or even a few pieces made of flowy fabric that won’t cling to your skin. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a pair of shorts with a flowy blouse for a relaxed but chic look.

Accessories are also important when it comes to dressing for a yacht day trip. A fun hat, sunglasses, and statement jewelry can all help make your outfit complete.

What do you wear on a yacht at night?

At night, you should aim to dress a bit more formally. Women can wear a dress or skirt with a nice blouse and some jewelry and add a blazer or cardigan if it’s chilly.

A nice pair of trousers with a top or blouse is also always appropriate. Footwear should be smart and comfortable, such as low-heeled pumps or sandals.

If you’re planning to go swimming later on, it’s best to bring a change of clothes, such as a swimming costume and cover-up. Accessorize with a clutch bag, statement necklace, or scarf for a stylish touch. Whatever you wear, be sure to feel comfortable and confident on the yacht.

What to wear on a yacht in winter?

If you’re a woman planning to spend time on a yacht in the winter, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather. Depending on the climate where you’ll be sailing, you may need to wear several layers in order to stay warm and comfortable.

A yacht is always an adventure. However, the dress code for an event on the water can be challenging. Whether you’re preparing for a brunch or evening soiree aboard, you’ll need to consider what outfit the event is asking for.

Whether you’re looking for moderate coverage, or are more excited to sun in your bikini on the upper deck, selecting an outfit for the yacht is important. You want to feel as good as you look, so making sure that you take into consideration how much skin you’re comfortable showing, the weather conditions, and the event you’re attending is a must.

1. Prioritize Comfort

How you feel in your clothing is just as important – if not more so – than wearing the hottest trends of the season. Whether you’re selecting a swimsuit, a beachy cover-up, or a matching patterned set, prioritize clothing that makes you feel as good as you look. If you’re comfortable, you’ll feel more confident to show up to any situation as your authentic self.

3. Try a Romper for the Best of Both Worlds

A romper is an effortless and stylish way to look your best and prioritize comfort. Rompers come in many styles, with everything from form-fitting to flowy to flatter your figure. The best thing about a romper is its versatility; it can be dressed up with heels and earrings, or stay casual and cute with sandals and a canvas tote. Whatever the occasion on board, you can’t go wrong with a romper.

4. Balance Comfort and Style With a One-Piece

A one-piece bathing suit can be the perfect outfit on its own, especially if you’re planning to yacht somewhere warmer or where swimming is the priority. Perhaps the yacht has a pool on deck, and you’d prefer to lounge while getting a tan.

Nothing beats a classic silhouette , so pairing a one-piece suit with some casual sandals, a tote with your essentials, and some delicate earrings are all you need to make a statement. Especially if you’re more comfortable wearing a bathing suit as your yacht attire, a one-piece successfully provides coverage in all the right places, while accentuating your figure naturally.

5. Highlight All the Right Places With a Kimono

There’s nothing better than an outfit that highlights all the right places, defines your natural curves, and provides extra coverage where you want it. A kimono, particularly a colorful or  vibrantly patterned piece, allows flexibility in outfit choices, while still also making a statement.

Take the Eclectic Shore Kimono from La Blanca , a perfectly colorful cover-up with tassels and an open front. A kimono can be worn over a swimsuit, effortlessly adding to a breezy aesthetic, or even paired with pants and a light top if you don’t want to commit to the heaviness of a sweater.

6. Show a Little More With a Bikini

If you’re feeling like showing a bit more skin, or the priority on the yacht is to soak in the sun, a bikini might be the perfect outfit for the yacht. Especially if you’re spending time on the water in a more casual setting, or snorkeling and watersports are the main attraction, why not look as stylish as possible?

With so many bikini styles to choose from, the most important thing to consider is which will you feel most comfortable in. Whether you choose a tankini, one-shoulder, or strapless bathing suit, a two-piece will be sure to turn heads. And don’t forget the SPF ! It’s important to pair your style with health, so prioritize hydration, adequate sun coverage, and sunscreen.

5. Keep It Classic With a Sundress

There’s a reason why a classic is a classic. You can’t go wrong with a sundress on the water, and, like the myriad options of bathing suits, there seem to be endless styles of dresses to choose from. It can be overwhelming to select a sundress, so keep it simple and classic, or commit to making a statement.

Especially if you’ll be on the water during the middle of the day, a sundress might be the move. Too much sun can be draining, and you can’t get much better than relaxing in a shady spot on a yacht. Additionally, a sundress can be easily transitioned into a nighttime outfit by swapping sandals for heels, pairing it with some elegant jewelry, and including a wrap or sweater.

6. Linen Pants Are a Breeze

One of the great things about linen is that it’s a flexible, breathable material. Whether you’re relaxing by the poolside bar or on a Mediterranean adventure, pairing pants with a cute top is a sophisticated, stylish way to bring comfort into an outfit. Prioritize pants made of breathable material, and are appropriate for the weather and type of yacht excursion you might be embarking on.

The great thing about pants is that they can effortlessly be paired with a one-piece bathing suit for a complete outfit, coupled with a wrap, kimono, or sweater for when it gets chillier in the evening. If you opt for an outfit without a bathing suit, pants can be combined with a number of tops to create the perfect outfit.

7. Try a Longer Skirt, Make a Statement

If you’re not partial to pants, embracing a longer skirt could be the perfect move for an inspired outfit. Selecting a skirt length is key, as you don’t want it to be too long or short for comfort. A three-quarter-length skirt, especially when part of a matching set or paired with a bathing suit top, creates a seamless and high-impact look.

Longer skirts are flattering in all the right places and can be dressed up or kept casual depending on whether you pair them with heels, flats, or a wide-brimmed sun hat. With a two-part set, a longer skirt can provide a sweet silhouette to a bathing suit top, and elevate its function, which is to provide coverage. Consider matching a patterned skirt with a neutral top, or complementing colors between top and bottom.

8. Shorts and T-shirt: A Timeless Combination

You really can’t go wrong with shorts and a shirt when embarking on a yacht. We saved this go-to outfit for last because its simplicity is timeless; shorts offer flexibility in that they can be paired with a variety of stylish options. Consider pairing shorts with a simple t-shirt, patterned tankini, or off-the-shoulder top; three very different styles, all simple and effective ways to embrace style and comfort during a day at sea.

If you’re keener on water sports , snorkeling, or generally are interested in a more active aesthetic, consider board shorts. These shorts from La Blanca are not only functiona l (they are quick-drying and equipped with pockets for storage), but are a stylish complement to your bathing suit. Stylish shorts can merge function and fashion, providing you with the best of both worlds.

The Bottom Line

Planning out an outfit for your day on a yacht can feel overwhelming since there are so many options to choose from. Do you choose a skirt or shorts? Do you opt for pants instead of a kimono, or combine both for a blended look? With these eight chic ideas, you can’t go wrong. Consider what your priorities are and plan from there; is comfort as important as style? Are you eager to get into the water and start snorkeling, or would you rather relax and suntan?

Curating an outfit for a yacht can seem daunting, but really just involves some intentional curation. If you plan to tan or swim, select a bathing suit that’s classic and versatile and can be combined with a number of outfit options. If you prefer to hang out above deck, a beautiful matching set of pants can offer a fashion-forward option for relaxation.

Whether you’re going for festive, fun, stylish, or comfortable, planning your outfit for a yacht doesn’t have to compromise style for comfort. Grab your SPF and sunglasses, and create an outfit that not only looks great but makes you feel even better.

When it comes to yachting, style and comfort are the two key factors most individuals consider when choosing what to wear on board. No one wants to feel overdressed or uncomfortable with their attire, and this is where a silk maxi dress comes in handy. A silk maxi dress is incredibly versatile, comfortable, and elegant, making it a perfect outfit choice for a yacht party or cruise.

One of the significant advantages of a silk maxi dress is that it is effortless to pack. It takes up minimal space in your luggage, ensuring that you have enough room to pack other essentials. It is also low maintenance, which is an added bonus when on a yacht cruise, meaning you can spend more time in the sun and less time ironing your clothes.

In conclusion, a silk maxi dress is the ultimate outfit choice for a day or night onboard a yacht. It is versatile, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish, making it an all-around winner for any occasion. With its flowing material and beautiful prints, it is the perfect attire to wear whilst soaking up the sun and taking in all the scenic views only a yacht cruise can offer.

Stylish Pairings: How to Complete Your Look with Tan Sneakers

If you're planning on spending the day on a yacht, you'll want to make sure you dress appropriately for the occasion. While the dress code can vary depending on the specific yacht and event, a striped nautical shirt is often a stylish and fitting choice for the occasion. Here's everything you need to know about wearing a striped nautical shirt on a yacht.

One of the biggest advantages of wearing a striped nautical shirt is that it's both comfortable and stylish. The light and breathable fabric will keep you cool even on hotter days, while the classic design with bold stripes in navy blue or red conveys the essence of the nautical theme. Most come with a relaxed and comfortable fit, which is ideal as you want to be able to move around and enjoy yourself while on board.

To complement your striped nautical shirt, consider pairing it with other pieces of clothing that will help you embrace the yachting lifestyle. Shorts or classic khaki pants work well with this type of shirt. Accessories such as boat shoes, sunglasses, and a sun hat can also complete your look and keep you looking sophisticated and stylish throughout the day.

Another important factor to consider when deciding what to wear on a yacht is the weather. If it's a cooler day, you might want to pair your striped nautical shirt with a light jacket or sweater to keep warm. You also need to think about sun protection and bring along sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to keep you shielded from the sun's rays.

Finally, it's always worth checking in advance with the yacht's dress code to ensure that your outfit is appropriate for the occasion. Some yachts will require more formal attire, while others are more relaxed in their expectations. By making sure that your outfit is suitable for the setting, you can feel confident and comfortable in your choice of clothes and fully enjoy your yachting experience.

Plus Size Baseball Game Outfits: Tips for a Stylish and Comfortable Look

When it comes to styling boat shoes, they're a classic choice that pairs well with a variety of different outfits. For a casual day on the yacht, pair your boat shoes with shorts or khakis and a polo shirt for a preppy look. If you're attending a yacht party or event, boat shoes can be dressed up with a blazer and dress pants for a more sophisticated look.

While boat shoes are a great choice for yachting, it's important to remember to choose a pair with a non-marking sole. This will prevent any scuff marks or damage to the deck of the yacht. Additionally, many yacht charters have dress codes, so make sure to check with the charter company before choosing your yachting attire.

In summary, boat shoes are an essential component of any yachting outfit. They're comfortable, stylish, and practical for spending a day on the water. With a variety of colors and styles to choose from, boat shoes are a versatile choice that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Just remember to choose a pair with a non-marking sole to protect the deck of the yacht.

Dressing Tips for Southeast Asia: How to Stay Comfortable and Stylish

A wide-brimmed sun hat is undoubtedly a must-have accessory for yacht parties and excursions. Not only does it protect you from the scorching sun, but it also complements any outfit and adds a touch of elegance.

When choosing a wide-brimmed sun hat, opt for one that is made of lightweight materials such as straw, cotton, or woven fabrics. These materials will keep you cool and comfortable, even on the hottest of days. A hat with a wide brim is ideal as it offers ample shade for your face, neck, and shoulders.

To complete your yacht look, pair your wide-brimmed sun hat with a flowing maxi dress, comfortable sandals, and a tote bag to carry all your essentials. Sun protection is crucial when on a yacht, so be sure to use sunscreen regularly and wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from the glare.

In conclusion, a wide-brimmed sun hat is both practical and stylish for a yacht party or excursion. Invest in one that suits your taste and personality, and you'll be sure to turn heads while enjoying the sun and sea.

Winter Fashion: How to Style a Leg Cast

If you're going on a yacht, it's important to dress appropriately for the occasion. After all, you want to feel comfortable and look stylish as you enjoy the open waters and soak up the sun. And one of the most fashionable and comfortable options for yachting attire is an embroidered kaftan.

Kaftans are a dress-like garment that originated in the Middle East and are possibly one of the oldest forms of clothing. They're typically made from light, flowing fabrics like cotton, silk or chiffon. Their relaxed fit and airy fabric make them perfect for yachting, where comfort and elegance are both equally important.

When choosing an embroidered kaftan for your next yachting adventure, look for one in a light color like white or pastel shades. The light color will help to reflect the sun's heat, keeping you cool and comfortable. Also, it won't fade easily after being exposed to the sun for an extended period.

To complete the look, pair the kaftan with some comfortable sandals or espadrilles. You can also accessorize with some sunglasses, a sun hat, and some simple jewellery.

Overall, an embroidered kaftan is a perfect option for a yachting trip as it combines style and comfort, making it the perfect outfit for a day out on the water. So why not add one to your wardrobe and be ready for your next yacht adventure in style?

Stylish Pairings: How to Rock your Camo Shorts

One fashion staple that has gained popularity in recent years on yachts is cropped sailor pants. These stylish and comfortable pants are perfect for women who want to make a fashion statement while enjoying a day out at sea. With their nautical-inspired design, cropped sailor pants are a great choice for anyone looking for something chic but practical to wear on a yacht.

Sailor pants have been a popular fashion trend since the 1930s and have remained in style, especially with those in the fashion industry. As a result, many high-end fashion brands have incorporated cropped sailor pants into their collections. Therefore, if you're looking to make a statement while on a yacht this season, these classy pants can help you steal the show.

Whether you're lounging on the deck of a yacht or sitting by the marina, cropped sailor pants will keep you comfortable and stylish. They are a perfect blend of style and comfort, making them a must-have item in any woman's wardrobe. So, whether you are an experienced sailor or this is your first time on a boat, make sure to grab a pair of cropped sailor pants for your next yacht outing for an unforgettable fashion statement.

Flattering and Comfortable Outfit Ideas for Plus-Size Comedy Show Attire

One of the best things about going on a yacht is that you get to spend some quality time on the water and enjoy the stunning views. If you are planning to take a day off on a yacht, it's important to dress for the occasion and feel fashionable. A great option to look stylish and comfortable is to choose a floral wrap bikini.

The floral prints also give a summery and tropical vibe that's perfect for a yacht trip. They come in different colors and patterns, and you can choose the one that suits your personality and preferences. You can match them with a flowing wrap skirt or a pair of stylish shorts to create a complete outfit.

Another great advantage of the floral wrap bikini is that it is comfortable to wear, and you can move freely on the yacht without any restrictions. Additionally, the material is lightweight and dries quickly, so you can jump into the water and enjoy swimming or lounging on the deck without feeling damp.

In conclusion, if you are looking for an elegant and comfortable outfit to wear on a yacht, a floral wrap bikini is an excellent choice. It is stylish, versatile, and designed to enhance your curves, making you look and feel fantastic. So, pack your floral wrap bikini, grab your sunglasses, and get ready for an unforgettable day on the water.

When it comes to dressing for a day or evening aboard a yacht, it is important to consider not only style but also comfort and practicality. And one item that fits the bill on all fronts is the classic linen button-down shirt.

Linen is a fabric that effortlessly exudes a relaxed and refined vibe, making it perfect for the yacht lifestyle. Its natural fibers offer breathability, keeping you cool even on the warmest days out on the open sea. A button-down shirt, on the other hand, enhances its versatility, allowing you to dress it up or down depending on the occasion.

Pair your linen button-down shirt with a pair of tailored shorts for a casual daytime look. Choose colors that complement each other, such as a crisp white shirt with navy or beige shorts. You can also add a pair of loafers or boat shoes to complete the ensemble, adding elegance to the outfit while ensuring that you can comfortably move around the yacht.

For a more formal evening affair, opt for a slim-fit linen shirt in a deep hue like midnight blue or charcoal gray. Team it with a smart pair of chinos or linen trousers, and swap the loafers for a pair of dress shoes. You can also achieve a more sophisticated look by accessorizing with a silk scarf or a statement belt.

It is worth noting that linen is prone to wrinkling, but this gives it a distinct charm, adding to its laid-back vibe. If you want to avoid too many wrinkles, choose a blend of linen and cotton. Linen also requires special care, so make sure to follow the washing instructions. Iron the shirt while it is still damp to make sure you get a crisp finish.

In summary, a linen button-down shirt is a versatile and practical choice when it comes to dressing for a yacht. Its comfort, breathability, elegance, and ease of wear make it the perfect addition to any wardrobe, lending itself to a wide range of occasions and looks.

Pairing denim cutoff shorts with a simple white t-shirt and sneakers can create a classic and effortless look. For a more polished look, you can add a linen blouse and slip-on espadrilles. Accessories like a straw hat or tote bag can complete the outfit and add a nautical touch.

When selecting denim cutoff shorts for yacht wear, it's important to consider the quality and fit. Look for high-quality denim that is comfortable and durable. The shorts should fit snugly but not constrict movement, as you will need to be able to move around comfortably on the yacht. When it comes to length, a mid-thigh length is ideal as it offers coverage while still allowing you to freely move your legs.

Finally, it's important to coordinate your denim cutoff shorts with the overall tone of the yacht. For instance, if the yacht has a more relaxed and casual vibe, opt for a classic blue denim short. However, if the yacht has a luxurious vibe, consider a white or black denim cutoff short.

Overall, denim cutoff shorts are an excellent choice for yacht wear and offer a combination of style, comfort, and practicality. When paired with the right accessories and complemented by a matching ambiance, you can create a chic and timeless look while enjoying a day at sea.

Styling Tips: What to Pair with White Sandals

When it comes to choosing the perfect accessory for a yacht party or cruise, wraparound sunglasses are a must-have. Not only do they provide a touch of sophistication to your outfit, but they also offer practical benefits, such as protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays.

One of the best things about wraparound sunglasses is their ability to completely cover your eyes and the surrounding area, ensuring that you have a wide and unobstructed view of the beautiful scenic surroundings around you. This is particularly important when you’re out at sea, where the glare of the water can be harsh on your eyes.

Another great benefit of wraparound sunglasses is their versatility. They come in a wide variety of styles and colors, so you can easily find a pair that complements your outfit while also providing the necessary protection. Whether you opt for classic black frames or something more trendy, you’ll be able to find a pair that fits your personal style.

At the end of the day, wraparound sunglasses are a stylish and practical choice for anyone who wants to look good and stay protected while out on a yacht. So why not invest in a pair today and add that extra level of sophistication to your next yachting adventure?

Induction Ceremony Attire: What to Wear?

When it comes to dressing for a day out on a yacht, there are a number of important factors to consider. Not only do you want to look stylish and put-together, but you also need to ensure that you are dressed appropriately for the setting and the activities that you have planned. One crucial element of any yacht outfit is the footwear, and espadrilles are a great choice for this type of occasion.

One of the best things about espadrilles is their versatility. They can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion, which makes them a great option for a variety of yacht activities. For example, if you are planning to spend the day lounging on the deck, you can pair your espadrilles with a casual sundress or shorts and a breezy top. If you have a fancier event planned, such as a sunset dinner or cocktail party, you can opt for a pair of espadrille wedges or heels to dress up your outfit.

Another benefit of wearing espadrilles on a yacht is their ease of wear. Many styles of espadrilles are slip-on, making them quick and easy to put on and take off as needed. This is particularly convenient on a yacht, where you may need to remove your shoes when moving between the deck and the cabin or when getting on and off the boat to swim or engage in other activities.

Overall, espadrilles are a great choice for anyone looking for stylish and comfortable footwear to wear on a yacht. With their versatility, ease of wear, and wide range of colors and patterns, you are sure to find a pair that fits your personal style and the occasion at hand. So next time you head out on the water, consider packing a pair of espadrilles to complete your yacht outfit.

What to Wear on a Yacht

Ian Fortey

When you’re on a yacht you’re obviously going to dress for the weather but, in general, you want to keep it light and cool. Casual is good within reason as long as you don’t go overboard, so to speak, and it need not be formal but it shouldn’t look inappropriate or out of place. There’s no set in stone dress code for yachts

The most expensive yachts in the world cost hundreds of millions of dollars and, for most of us, that’s a bit out of reach. But that doesn’t mean we’ll never get on a yacht for a weekend charter or even a yacht party and when that happens knowing what to wear is something you may be curious about. Let’s dig into some deeper details of suitable yacht attire for men and women so you don’t have to worry about feeling self conscious when you’re living it up on a fancy yacht.

Yacht Styles Suitable for Men

yacht chic attire

In 80s movies you may have seen some yacht captains decked out in full formal jackets with hats and pipes and everything. You can still do that and, no word of a lie, a guy at my uncle’s yacht club used to wear the navy jacket and a captain’s hat everywhere he went for years. But most people like to keep it casual on a yacht and far less formal with a simple, casual outfit.

Linen is a popular choice for yachting because it’s very light and breezy and keeps you cool under the blazing sun. A linen shirt, like linen button downs, have a real casual but not inappropriate quality to them that has been linked to boating for years and would ensure you never look out of place.

Light cotton works just as well, of course, and something like a polo shirt wouldn’t make you stand out in a crowd, or a simple button down. Even a t-shirt wouldn’t look out of place but you’ll want to tailor that to the situation. If you’re literally just day sailing then that’s great. But if it’s a slightly more formal outing or maybe a party then you may want to keep it a little more upscale

Here’s another case where you should take the situation into account. Shorts and trunks can definitely be appropriate on a yacht but if you’re having a party in the evening then maybe consider longer pants. However, if you’re actually traveling on the yacht, especially if you’re fishing or sailing/racing, a good pair of swim shorts will do you well. Not just for the freedom and for keeping you cool but in the event of an emergency and you do end up in the water, it’s never a bad idea to be ready to swim.

Vans Boat Shoes-Zapato Del Barca

Boat shoes are a must for any boat ride. You don’t want to be skidding around on the deck in inappropriate footwear but at the same time you want to be comfortable. These are often called deck shoes as well, and they are very close to loafers with the addition of laces.

You’ll definitely see people in loafers on yachts but loafers don’t have siped soles, which means they aren’t textured to provide the proper grip on deck. If the yacht is going to be actually out there sailing and moving on the water, you want deck shoes.

Some people wear flip flops and that may be fine for a casual day with friends.

Accessories

yacht chic attire

You should be wearing sunglasses on a boat whether or not its a yacht just because you want to keep your eyes protected from dangerous UV rays and the glare off of the water. Polarized shades are the best but anything is better than nothing. A nice pair of aviators won’t look out of place, or some Ray Bans can be great as well.

Yacht Styles for Women

yacht chic attire

Traditionally the difference between men’s fashion and women’s fashion on a yacht has been one of practicality. In the past, men were the ones always controlling the yacht and women were passengers. Boating has a somewhat shady history of not being friendly to women, you’ll recall. And for that reason women were mostly seen wearing swimsuits and lounging on yachts. But if you’re a woman running the boat, you’ll likely want the same freedom and comfort that a man in a simple shirt and shorts is enjoying.

Now if you’re not piloting the boat and instead are just around to enjoy a yacht party, then swimsuits tend to be the order of the day and potentially some kind of wrap or cover up as well. Basically whatever feels most comfortable and appropriate to the occasion.

Things like kaftans, sundresses, and various wraps and coverups that would work poolside or at the beach when you’re not in the water are just as welcome on a yacht and won’t look out of place at all.  A knee length summer dress is something you’d likely see on any yacht.

Speedo Women’s Port Lightweight Breathable Water Shoe

Like men, you can get a good pair of women’s boat shoes that look a little more elegant if that’s what interests you, and they’re a good investment. Again, a boat shoe is less about appearance than function when the boat is actually in motion and you want something that gives you firm footing, which a boat shoe can do.

Both hats and sunglasses are more than appropriate for women on a yacht and offer the added protection from the sun that you’re going to want anyway. You won’t look out of place and you’ll be doing your eyes and skin a favor by keeping them away from harmful UV rays. Remember the sunscreen as well.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party

yacht chic attire

Now a yacht party is a different sort of monster than just being on a yacht. This will likely be a more formal occasion and that means dressing up a little. Ditching the shorts for this is probably a good idea.

Unless you have been specifically told this is a formal wear event, black tie affair don’t dress for one. Most yacht parties aren’t that formal because, well, they’re on boats. Leaning into the boat aspect is a better option. A suit would be as formal as you should expect unless told something ultra formal like a tuxedo is expected. But most yacht parties are likely to be a little more casual than that.

Consider dress pants and a button down shirt or a blazer. A sport coat and tie, maybe with a matching jacket, is also very common for parties on yachts.

A more formal occasion, a wedding for instance, will probably clue you in as to what would be expected in terms of dress. And, hopefully, your hosts are going to be gracious enough to make it clear if you do need to dress to the nines.

You can find some more formal boat shoes and, if things get a little fancier, some dress shoes that don’t have slippery soles will work as well.

Are Cocktail Dresses Appropriate for Women?

yacht chic attire

At the more formal end of things, a classy yacht party could very well require you to wear a cocktail dress or in rare cases even some kind of fancy gown. Cocktail attire is a little less formal than evening wear and more suited for a casual affair. Hopefully it will be made clear before you agree to show up just how formal the event is, but it’s definitely not unheard of. If it’s a party at night, and you’re going to be moored out on the water with a view of the city, for instance, a dress would be well within reason.

If things aren’t so formal as a boat wedding, then consider a wide-legged pant, a romper, a wrap skirt or really anything you’d wear to a gathering on a beach, or pool type party.

One thing you want to remember when attending any event on a yacht is to not wear heels. I’ve seen it in person and it’s a bad idea. Not that you’re guaranteed to lose your balance, but the odds are definitely leaning towards it. It’s an accident waiting to happen, so stick with flat shoes.

Are all Boat Parties the Same?

People can throw a boat party for weddings, anniversaries, charity events, retirements and probably a hundred other things. Don’t let the fact that it’s on a yacht throw you off if you’ve never attended one. A party is a party, after all.

If you’re unclear of expectations, feel free to ask. Consider bringing a sweater or light jacket just in case it gets cold and remember that good footwear is extra important on a yacht so you keep your balance. Whether it’s ultra formal or super casual, that will never change.

The Bottom Line

Classy but casual is often an easy way to approach dressing on a yacht. If it’s a party, you may need to step it up a notch, but that will really depend on the party itself and what your hosts expect. Consider linen and other very light, breathable fabrics. Remember boat shoes are the best idea to keep your grip on deck, and don’t forget swimsuits as well as sunglasses and other sun-protection gear.

What should men wear to a yacht party?

Button-down shirts paired with shorts or chinos work well for men. Boat shoes or loafers are better than sandals. Add layers like blazers or windbreakers in case of chill.

Can you wear jeans to a yacht party?

Nice dark wash denim paired with dressy tops work for casual daytime parties. Distressed or overly casual jeans should be avoided for cocktails/dinners.

What shoes should you NOT wear to a yacht party?

Avoid flimsy flip flops or ultra high stilettos. Shoes with straps or laces work better on wet surfaces. Espadrilles, mules and wedges are great options.

Yacht parties let you dress to impress against a gorgeous nautical backdrop. Just be sure to consider the formality, bring options to layer and choose shoes that work on deck. With these tips and outfit ideas, you’ll be ready to sail in style!

Yachty by Nature

Yacht rock outfits, yacht rock outfits 101.

Whether you just discovered the art of smooth or been digging smooth soft rock for a while now, the subject of Yacht Rock Outfits is on your mind. Let me just say, for those about to dock, we salute you. There is an unmistakable moment when Yacht Rock is revealed to you. For me, it happened at a fancy industry party in LA. This fab girl came up and mic dropped it so smoothly to my then 80’s band, Neon Nation , saying “you guys play any yacht rock”? Holy crap, I pretty much spit out my drink and fell to the floor wondering what I was in for.

“You walked in to the party, like you were walking onto a yacht.”

Yachty Attire

The rest is history and I’m now well into 7 years of playing keyboards in a nationally successful yacht rock band, Yachty by Nature . No doubt, I’m living that dream and it goes without saying, I’m deep in the yacht myself. With weekly yacht party after monthly yacht wedding and more, I’m becoming a Yacht Attire expert in thought and practice and already guiding the band and others in this area of fashion.

Truly, if you get the clothing right, enough people with that common goal, just add yacht music and the fun ensues. Truth be told, I’ve watched as a room full of punk rockers that committed to the groovy, eclectic yacht rock dress code transformed like you wouldn’t believe.  They turned a simple celebration with a yacht rock band into a full scale 1978 throwback LOVE FEST and the clothes were off the hook. The energy, the vibe, the clothes, the music became something so magical all its own. Build the yacht and they will sail to it.

So, next time you are having a yacht party or watching your favorite yacht rock band indulge yourself with an epic outfit that will make all it happen. It’s not just the music, the band, the vibe, the look, the energy. It’s the sum of its parts and those smooth outfits have the mighty power to transfix your situation.

The Captain’s Hat…

hefner yacht rock outfits attire clothes fashion yachty by nature

Yep, you guessed it, the fastest coronation to yacht rock royalty is the Captain’s Hat.  Buy one, make one, bedazzle one or borrow one. In fact, the sky is the limit here so let your creativity reign if you are gonna go for it.  But, just get one somehow, some way and you are on the yacht. In fact, Broner makes a very comfortable, quality, straightforward and good looking hat that fits well.  Additionally, it avoids the cheap fit and look of those basic hats on Amazon. Do yourself a favor, get a hat or dig deep in the vault and find a classic, vintage, or authentic captain’s hat online. Additionally, we’ve seen some pretty cool and unique creations out there, but for simplicity, fit, and value, Broner is the answer.  Lastly, remember what Hefner did for the captains hat!

Yacht Rock Stripes get it done…

No matter what color, stripes will be the 2nd easiest way to begin your yacht fashion transformation. Put on a red and white striped shirt (or blue or black mainly) and you’ll be sailing in no time. In fact, stripes are probably the #1 most sighted outfit at a yacht rock party. Just know that it’s only the start. When you accessorize over the stripes with a complementary pant color or scarf, ascot, belt, and obviously the captain’s hat or more, you’ve earned your captain’s bars quicker than you can say Ship Shape! Don’t forget to keep it simple, too much or conflicting stripes will sink that ship just as fast.

That 70’s look…

Gettin’ Yachty @ Costello’s in Mission Viejo

Due to the strong connection between the silly, the goofy, the fun and the yacht party, going retro will set a course for adventure. Call it the Ron Burgundy effect or just throwing back to the 1977 duds they wore on Midnight Special , this look is uber sexy and may attract the opposite sex faster than any other yacht look. In fact, you don’t have to look too far to find polyester or denim clad jean meat at many yacht rock concerts. Additionally, the fake mustache works wonders whether you go 70’s vintage or any different yachty outfit.  More importantly, get bonus points on your yacht rock outfits if you can get the feathered hair going!  Polyester, print shirts, and for the ladies, buy that disco dress and some fabulous glasses and you’re ready to yacht!

The Yacht Club, Tennis Club, Golf Club…

Think Caddyshack, Marina del Rey, golfing, the harbor, and tennis. Moreso, put a tennis sweater over that polo or even better go up the ladder and put on that navy blue blazer with an ascot and some yellow glasses. Actually, that’s the calling card for us in Yachty by Nature! Pretend that you’re christening the Flying Wasp or dropping anchor with Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack and you’ll be flying indeed. Or even better, watch Caddyshack to get in the mood for your party and let inspiration take hold…and even a few classic movie lines. In fact, if you look around the golf club or yacht club scenes, your creativity is sparked immediately.  The outfits jump right off the screen and wreak of Yacht Club greatness.  Speaking of movies, we’ve even seen a die hard Yachty arrive in the Goldie Hawn outfit from the movie Overboard. Keep your yacht rock outfits classy San Diaaaaaago!

Go Hawaiian on your Yacht Rock outfits…

yachty hawaiian shirt attire clothing clothes wear suit uniform costume

Get Nauti !

Lastly, this category is a catch all for everything nautical, yachty, and seaworthy.  Use your imagination or stick to the basics.  You can don the captain’s outfit with shoulder bars easily for the Love Boat vibe.  Or, you can just look like Charlie’s Angels coming off a yacht in 1978.  Literally any type of ocean, beach, seaside, or otherwise yachty type of clothing will do.  The scarf around the neck, the boat shorts and the Nantucket red pants and plaid shirt all qualify as supremely yachty fashion.  When in doubt, check yourself by asking, “would I wear this outfit in the summer in Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard?”  Most importantly, if the answer is yes, you are yacht rock camera ready.  In fact, let’s not forget the boat shoes, deck shoes, or Sperry Top Siders all together.

Yacht Rock Outfits Wildcard…

Never forget that there’s really no authority on this subject so you can always just go for it.  Sometimes, the more uniform, standard, and strict we get on the yacht, the more mundane we become.  Therefore, don’t be afraid to dive into the vanity t-shirt, go stripes and ascot, and generally mix it up.  There are no hard and fast rules behind the Yacht Rock outfit, just your creativity and passion for the music.  From experience, we’ll go captain’s outfit one day and crazy boat shirt the next.  Ultimately, we’ve seen it all from the stage and relish the moments when people go wild with it.  In fact, there’s probably even a yacht rock adjacent area for the Pirate Party as well.  Captain Crunch sightings aside, those parties can really bring together the nauti, yachty, knotty by nature and then some.  In the end, go for it and see what happens.  It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eyepatch.  Honestly, it’s all about the fun so get Kraken!!!

As always, let the vibe be your guide.  Thus, for your next yacht rock themed party, concert, or just a Yachty night on the town, get your ensemble going.  Whether you are new to the yacht or an old deck hand, that outfit will crank up the experience.  So, commit to making that statement with your yacht clothing or up your game and improve on the garb you already have.  As we well know, you can never have enough options to mix it up for a fun night with Yachty by Nature or some other occasion.

Happy to be your guide here.  Feel free to comment and add some great ideas on this post or on social media. #yachtrock #yachtrockoutfits #yachtybynature #yachtattire #yachtrockfashion

Thanks for giving props to Tiki Caliente! I would like to point out that the most proper Hawaiian shirt to wear to a Yacht Rock concert is one that would have been for sale between 1978 and 1983! Think to yourself, would Magnum PI or Pablo Cruise wear this? And if so, bring it on! Most Magnum PI kind of Hawaiian shirts go great with a white jacket and white shorts. Vintage late ‘70s and early ‘80’s Hawaiian shirts can be found Online in Etsy yacht rock shops, and on eBay. Not expensive, and so ”vintage smooth”. Look like a pro, and be “era appropriate”. Girls can find vintage 70’s nautical dresses on Etsy, too!

Ahoy Jenny! THanks so much for the kind compliment 🙂 As you know, we’re super inspired and love switching up the outfits, attire, clothing, and costumes. Yacht Rock rules!

33+ Yacht Party Attire Ideas: Setting Sail in Style

Julie Higgins

When it comes to yacht party attire, striking the perfect balance between nautical elegance and casual sophistication is the key to making waves at any maritime soirée.

Imagine cruising on sparkling waters, the sun painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as you sip champagne and nibble on gourmet treats.

This is the essence of a yacht party—a luxurious haven where socialites and fashionistas alike come to unwind and celebrate.

While the captivating beauty of the sea and the allure of social mingling over Insta-worthy treats serve as irresistible opportunities to relax and snap some great social media content, your yacht party attire plays a pivotal role in how you experience it.

Choosing the right yacht party attire is not just a fashion statement; it’s a social grace.

Your outfit is your personal brand’s uniform, helping to form those all-important first impressions and showing who you are and what you represent before you even utter a word.

After all, celebrity fashion stylist Rachel Zoe once said: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak!”

Whether you’re aiming for casual sophistication or an evening of glamour, your wardrobe choices can set the tone for the party and ensure that you’re comfortable, confident, and appropriately dressed for the occasion.

Yacht party attire

Understanding Yacht Party Attire

Yacht parties come in many shapes and styles, from daytime soirees to sunset cocktail events and even formal black-tie affairs.

Understanding the tone of the party you’re attending is essential in getting the dress code right and choosing the appropriate clothing for the occasion.

Types of Yacht Parties

  • Daytime Parties: Often casual and sporty, these are the events where you can revel in your love for pastels, shorts, and deck shoes – the stereotypical nautical style. A daytime yacht party typically has a relaxed and airy vibe, ideal for linen dresses, polo shirts, and flip-flops.
  • Sunset Parties: As the day turns to evening, the attire takes a more glamorous turn. Think cocktail dresses, tailored jackets, and smart-casual outfits that allow you to transition from day to night seamlessly.
  • Formal Events: These are the crème de la crème of yacht parties, where the dress code could range from cocktail attire to full black-tie. Men are expected to show up in tuxedos or at least a well-tailored suit, and women often wear elegant evening gowns or chic cocktail dresses.

Ambiance and Setting

The ambiance is directly influenced by the type of yacht party.

Daytime events are generally cheerful and relaxed, often with summer tunes playing in the background.

It’s almost like a scene from those cool summer music videos that you typically lust over on TV when you’re stuck at home wearing chunky knits in the middle of winter!

You might find people lounging in swimwear, cover-ups, or casual summer dresses. The evening parties, however, usually come with a hint of formality.

Dim lighting, jazz or classical music, and a more sophisticated crowd require an equally sophisticated wardrobe.

Understanding the ambiance and setting not only helps you choose your outfit but also prepares you for the social dynamics of the party.

Always remember, the right yacht party attire can help you navigate through any social sea with grace and confidence.

Daytime Yacht Party Attire

When the sun is shining and the yacht sets sail for a daytime soiree, think airy, relaxed, and comfortable, but never compromise on style.

The key to nailing daytime yacht party attire lies in lightweight fabrics like cotton, linen, and chambray.

These fabrics not only help to keep you cool but also make you appear effortlessly chic and elegant without looking too over the top.

Women can opt for breathable summer dresses or a stylish combination of tailored shorts with a sleeveless blouse.

Men might consider wearing cotton or linen shorts paired with a crisp polo shirt or even a short-sleeve button-down shirt.

Don’t shy away from nautical prints—think stripes, anchors, or even seashells—to give your outfit that quintessential maritime touch.

Comfortable shoes are a must; you’ll likely be walking around, socializing, or perhaps even dancing. Boat shoes, espadrilles, or sophisticated flip-flops are great choices that blend comfort with style.

Sunset and Evening Yacht Party Attire

As the day transitions into evening, yacht parties often adopt a more sophisticated and formal tone.

The relaxed shorts and flip-flops that served you well during the day are replaced by chic sundresses, elegant jumpsuits, and smart separates like tailored pants and silk blouses.

Fabrics like silk, satin, or lightweight wool are the perfect way to cover-up in the evening when enjoying watching golden hour turn to sunsets over the sea.

These kinds of fabrics also offer a luxurious touch and are ideal for travel too.

For men, a well-fitted blazer can transform a casual daytime look into a smart evening ensemble when paired with dark jeans or tailored pants.

It’s always a good idea to bring along a stylish layer piece for evening parties, as temperatures can drop quite significantly after sunset.

Women can opt for a lightweight pashmina shawl or a fashionable jacket, while men might consider a lightweight sweater or casual sports jacket.

The key is to choose garments that are easily removable yet blend seamlessly with your outfit, keeping you comfortable without sacrificing style.

Try to avoid tight-fitting sweaters that can mess up your hairdo or makeup or are generally just uncomfortable and tricky to pull on and off over your head.

Nautical Elements and Color Palette

In the world of yacht parties, the nautical fashion trend is a timeless classic.

You know the one!

Clean, bold navy stripes across a crisp white canvas.

These patterns are usually worn on t-shirts, dresses or shirts and teamed with white shorts or trousers and light canvas shoes.

The palette is usually dominated by navy, white, and accents of red or gold.

These colors not only evoke the maritime spirit but also offer a touch of elegance and simplicity.

Incorporating these shades into your outfit, whether through a navy-blue blazer or a white linen dress, can make a subtle yet striking impact.

Maritime-inspired accessories can serve as the finishing touch. Think anchor-shaped pendants, sailor knots, or even rope belts.

Get creative with nautical-inspired accessories and have fun! What better place to lose yourself in this trend than when dressing for a yacht party at sea!

These little details can provide that extra layer of authenticity and sophistication to your yacht party looks, making you appear not just fashionable but also in tune with the sea-loving setting.

Footwear Choices for Yacht Parties

Your choice of footwear can greatly influence your overall experience at a yacht party.

While you might be tempted to sport those killer heels or brand-new leather loafers, comfort should be your primary concern.

Espadrilles offer a chic yet comfortable solution, providing a cushiony base and ample style.

Boat shoes are another excellent choice, especially for men, as they offer good grip and a timeless look.

Sandals, preferably with a back strap, can also work well, offering both comfort and ease of movement.

While high heels might look glamorous, they can be a recipe for disaster on a boat.

Not only are they uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time, but they also pose a safety risk too, particularly during bouts of turbulence from rough tides or when you’re moving around on a deck that can become slippery from overlapping waves.

When it comes to yacht parties, style should never come at the cost of safety or comfort.

This is your ideal opportunity to dress up and look glamorous minus the heels so why not make the most of it!

Accessorizing for Yacht Glamour

The right accessories can significantly elevate your daytime yacht attire.  When it comes to elevating your yacht party outfit , accessories play a crucial role.

The right choice of accessories can add that final touch of glamour, converting a good outfit into an extraordinary one.

Sunglasses are a must, not just as a style statement but also for eye protection. Choose a pair that complements the shape of your face and the vibe of your outfit.

You typically can’t go wrong with classic styles in black, tortoiseshell or metal-rimmed aviators.

For daytime events, statement sunglasses are not just practical for shielding your eyes from the sun; they’re also a cornerstone of yacht chic.

Whether it’s a classic aviator, a retro cat-eye, or an oversized pair, the style you choose can speak volumes.

Hats are another accessory that serves dual purposes: function and fashion.

A wide-brimmed hat can protect you from direct sun exposure while adding a hint of sophistication to your look.

Wide-brim sun hats or casual baseball caps can add flair while offering the practical benefit of shielding you from the sun.

Similarly, a well-chosen piece of elegant jewelry—perhaps a pearl necklace or a set of gold bangles—can light up your outfit in the evening.

Don’t overlook functional accessories like a chic sunhat for daytime or a stylish clutch for the evening.

These items can hold your essentials while complementing your ensemble.

A light scarf or bandana is another versatile accessory, offering a pop of color and serving as a functional piece to keep your hairstyle and patience intact against the occasional gust of wind.

Remember, accessories are your chance to inject personality into your outfit.

Choose pieces that resonate with your style but also match the event’s theme.

The right balance between practicality and flair can set you apart in the most sophisticated manner.

Navigating Formal Yacht Party Attire

Formal yacht parties take the concept of nautical elegance to the next level.

Dress codes can range from cocktail attire to black-tie, which means a step up from your regular party wardrobe.

Ladies can opt for elegant cocktail dresses that exude sophistication.

Fabrics like silk, chiffon, or lace add a luxurious touch that fits the high-end setting.

If the event is black-tie, an evening gown is more appropriate, preferably in understated colors like black, navy, or metallic shades.

When choosing an evening dress, try to remember that “less is more” and we don’t mean the amount of material!

Be mindful of not picking a style that’s overly revealing and showing off too much cleavage.

Not only is flashing the skin not deemed appropriate in this type of formal setting, you also run the risk of experiencing a potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction when onboard.

For men, a tailored suit can often suffice for a cocktail dress code.

However, for black-tie events, a tuxedo becomes almost imperative. Look for high-quality materials and a fit that complements your body shape.

Remember, a well-tailored suit or tuxedo not only looks good but also boosts your confidence, enhancing your overall experience at the party.

Packing Essentials and Preparation

Preparing for a yacht party involves more than just choosing an outfit. The trick lies in packing smartly to cover all scenarios.

Your checklist should include not just your main outfit but also layering options, swimwear, and a change of clothes if the party extends into the late hours.

Don’t forget essential accessories like sunglasses, hats, and perhaps even a light scarf or shawl for cooler temperatures.

Always consider the weather forecast and the possibility of water activities when packing.

Ziplock bags can be handy for protecting your phone and other essentials from water damage.

Pack your outfits in garment bags to keep them in good condition and use shoe bags for your footwear to maintain their shape and cleanliness.

Choosing the perfect yacht party attire can feel overwhelming, but it’s all about balancing style with comfort and appropriateness for the occasion.

Whether it’s a casual daytime event or a swanky evening soiree, your outfit sets the tone for your experience.

Never underestimate the power of well-chosen accessories or the importance of appropriate grooming and skincare.

Embrace your personal style but be respectful of the event’s vibe and dress code.

After all, yacht parties are an embodiment of fashion, luxury, and the majestic backdrop of the sea.

If you’re lucky enough to get an invitation to a cool summer yacht party then make sure you revert back to these tips to help you choose the right clothing and accessories for a thoroughly successful and enjoyable boat party experience.

Plus, with these styling tips, you’re guaranteed to feel confident and comfortable to pose for those all-important photos for the ‘Gram!

21 Epic Yacht Party Outfit Ideas + Tips

Inside: Amazing yacht party outfit ideas that you need to sea

So…you’ve been invited to a yacht party…welcome aboard! As someone who has had the pleasure of sailing the seas and attending my fair share of glamorous yacht gatherings, I can’t help but get excited about sharing some fabulous outfit ideas with you all.

Yacht parties are undoubtedly the epitome of sophistication and style, and choosing the perfect ensemble is a delightful part of the experience. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a first-time deck adventurer, I’ve got some fantastic insights on how to dress to impress while maintaining comfort and charm.

3 different yacht party ideas

So, let’s set sail on a fashion journey together and discover the chicest and most awe-inspiring yacht party outfits that will make waves and leave a lasting impression on everyone aboard! I am going to be adding these to my 20th birthday outfit ideas , because they are just perfect.

Table of Contents

Epic Yacht Party Outfit Ideas + Tips

Before I show you some examples of amazing yacht party outfits, I wanted to go over some of my top tips. This way, these can be fresh in your mind as you go through looking for inspiration!

1. Nautical Chic

Embrace the maritime theme by opting for nautical-inspired attire. A classic white and navy striped shirt paired with well-fitted khaki or white shorts or trousers can create a stylish and relaxed look.

If you are thinking about going a little more dressy, then you can always wear an evening gown that fits under this theme as well! I think the ideas below will help you find what style you are looking for.

2. Light and Breezy

Take it from me…since you’ll be out on the water, comfort is key. You need to choose lightweight and breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, or chambray to stay cool and composed even in the summer sun. I genuinly cannot push this point enough. You absolutely want to be stylish…but you also need to be practical.

Lucky for you, practicality and style actually do have many lines that intersect.

3. Dress to Impress

If the yacht party calls for a more formal dress code, consider a classy sundress for ladies or a tailored blazer over a crisp button-down shirt for gentlemen. It strikes the perfect balance between elegance and leisure. I love any excuse to dress up, so whenever I get invited to a fancier party, I really take advantage of it.

4. Hats and Sunglasses

This one is a subsection attached to tip number two. You are going to be on a boat, so you are going to want to include a cute hat and some sunnies. You can protect yourself from the sun while adding a touch of glamor with a wide-brimmed hat and a stylish pair of sunglasses that match your outfit.

Not only do they serve as practical accessories, but they also exude an air of sophistication. If you are going with your parents, you can look at these mom daughter matching outfits!

5. Deck Shoes or Sandals

Leave the stilettos and heavy boots at home! Opt for comfortable deck shoes or trendy sandals, as they are both practical and in line with the yacht ambiance. I once wore heels on a yacht and went home 4 hours later with the worst blisters I have ever had in my life.

Plus, with all of the swaying, I found myself exhausted from just standing in my heels. This is definitely not the vibe you want to bring to a party.

6. Accessorize minimally. 3 different outfits

6. Accessorize Minimally

Keep your accessories simple and minimalistic. A statement piece like a beautiful necklace or a stylish bracelet can add that extra touch to your outfit without being too overpowering.

If you have too many accessories, you may find yourself on the more high-maintenance side. If you are up for that, then you go for it.

7. Neutral and Pastel Colors

Embrace the coastal vibe with a palette of soft and breezy colors. Think whites, pastel blues, seafoam greens, and sandy beiges for a fresh and sophisticated look. If you couldn’t tell already…the whole goal you are going for is sophistication. I mean, this is true for most yacht parties, but it does depend on the person throwing it.

Yacht Party Outfit Ideas –  8. Versatility is Key

Yacht parties often involve different settings, from lounging on the deck to dancing in the evening. Choose outfits that can transition seamlessly from day to night with a few adjustments. There are quite a few outfits like this below, so make sure you keep an eye out for them.

9. Layer Up

Evenings on the water can get a bit chilly, so be prepared by bringing along a lightweight cardigan or a stylish jacket that complements your outfit. This might feel a little counterintuitive, but at the end of the day, I just want you to be comfortable. I have spent one too many nights uncomfortable on a boat. Life is too short!

Yacht Party Outfit Ideas  10. Confidence

Above all, wear your outfit with confidence and a smile! Your attitude is the ultimate accessory, and it’ll radiate positivity and charm throughout the entire yacht party. I think if you listen to all of my tips and tricks from above, you are going to show up to this party the most comfy and confident version of yourself.

I recommend saying some simple affirmations to yourself before you leave your house. You are the life of the party. Everyone loves you. And, of course, you’re outfit rocks!

Nautical Chic: What to wear on a luxury yacht?

Band of Outsiders

The 2015 Singapore Yacht Show is docking on our shores today and here’s what you can wear for the event.

Even if you are a yacht newbie, don’t hesitate to to deck yourself in streamlined stripes and azure, oceanic tones.  Balmain ‘s navy blue sailor-inspired blazer makes for a great thematic choice, while J. Crew ‘s striped sweater and bermuda shorts are basics that you can rely on again and again. Whatever you decide to wear,  Eugenia Kim ‘s chic straw hat will complete your yacht getup and protect you from Singapore’s scorching sun.

Take the next four days to taste the good life and make sure you dress the part!

Bon voyage!

The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

What to Wear to a Yacht Party – Your Dress Code Guide!

yacht chic attire

Dressing for a boat party is different than any other kind of event. While you have good times, you need to look great and most importantly, feel comfortable in your clothing. Also, you need to take some safety precautions into consideration as boats have unpredictable movements. After all, you want to have an exceptional time! Most yacht events take place in the summer, so you need to dress accordingly to the weather. What will be your event about? A Day party? A night party? In this article, you will find out exactly what to wear to a yacht party.

Table of Contents

Most parties are held during the day. You will probably spend most of your time enjoying dancing on the deck with a cocktail in your hand or swimming in the water, so you need an attire comfortable to wear and easy to pull on/off!

  • Choose a swimsuit or a bikini to wear under your clothes. Make sure to pick a color that suits your attire.
  • A flowy dress, short skirt, airy beach pants, or a short over your swimsuit will be perfect for this kind of party. You can also match them with a summary layer or a loose blouse.
  • As for the shoes, flat sandals with soft soles will get you out of trouble. High heels are an absolute no-no as they are not safe on a boat and can scratch the deck.

Accessories

  • You should be wearing sunglasses during the day, but not just any, you need polarized sunglasses to protect 100% your eyes from the UV rays of the sun
  • Try to store your stuff like sunglasses, makeup, and hair clips in a waterproof handbag. It could be useful if it gets wet!
  • Makeup Use only waterproof makeup during the day
  • Opt for a tight swimsuit if you plan to wear it under your cloth. Otherwise, there are stylish good looking swimwears that look more like dress shorts, which you can match with loose shirts and a light jacket
  • The most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants, boating shorts , and jean shorts assorted with light shirts, or polo and a loose vest.
  • Avoid flip-flops and opt for nonmarking boating shoes , like Sperry. These come in a wide variety of styles to choose from and will match any outfit. With these shoes, you can walk in complete tranquility without worrying about hurting your feet or slipping on the wet deck.
  • Opt only for a waterproof watch if you intend to wear one. You don’t want to bother taking it off, and on each time you go for a swim.
  • As mentioned for women above, the same concept applies to men. A good pair of polarized sunglasses is a must!

Night Party

In the evening, you can still wear casual clothes but a bit more dressy. The thin, soft, and flowy textile is more appropriate for night parties. Bring a light jacket with you. It gets cooler in the evening.

  • Princess waist dresses, skirt with flounces, loose pants assorted with dressy tops are the perfect choices. A chic option will be to wear a color-coordinated wrap or a jacket. A long dress harmonized with a nice pair of chandelier earrings is a great option if you opt to dress chicly
  • Here, again, avoid high heels. Flats and low-heeled sandals will be perfect and will suit any outfit.
  • Men should wear comfortable pants with a dress shirt or even a polo, and a light jacket on top.
  • I will say it again, the best shoes to wear on a boat is Sperry, but hey, this is your party, you can pick any other type of boat shoes as long as they are non-marking.
  • Girls, even if high heels elongate your legs and make you more attractive. It is preferable to avoid wearing them on a boat. Opt for boating shoes !
  • Mosquitoes love humidity, especially in the late afternoon. You should bring a repellent with you. You Never know.
  • Try to use only waterproof accessories
  • The sun beat down during the day, bring sunscreen and wear long sleeves to protect you from the sun
  • You can wear long dresses but not too long to avoid tripping.
  • If you are unsure about the type of party, ask the person that organizes the event on the yacht what is and not appropriate.
  • It’s easy to get dehydrated on a yacht because you don’t feel the sun as you are most of the time in the water or on the deck and at sea, there are always winds. PS, wear a hat and drink a lot of water!

Final Words!

Now that you know how to dress for a day and night party on a yacht, all you need to do is have a good time!

8 thoughts on “What to Wear to a Yacht Party – Your Dress Code Guide!”

I have a yacht party to go to and I really needed this guide to make sure that I will take whatever I need. It is really easy to forget a few things and later regret once you reach the party. However, in the evening yacht parties, is it okay to wear heels?

Oh, that’s great, I am sure you’ll have fun!

Yes, I agree with you, it is easy to forget things. This is why it is important to write down what you need before you go:) Once you are on the boat, you cannot go back unless you live nearby.

You cannot wear high heels on a boat, there are few reasons to this. It is not comfortable, not safety and it can damage the deck:) You wouldn’t want this happen.

Thank you for the comment and wish you to have unforgettable moments on the yacht party!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Daniella, I really like that you divided your article into parts like what to wear in the day or in night! And that you pay attention to both men and women is great, too! often, there are only guides for women. Keep going on as active as you are! Your website is catchy!

Thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate:) Whats women without men and whats men without women? We can’t live without each other:), Have a wonderful day!

I have been on a yacht for a dinner party sailing in heels! It was a bit troublesome especially going up and down stairs.

Is this post geared toward Northeast US or somewhere else in the world? Here in Florida, it is absolutely okay to wear flip flops to a day yacht party as long as they aren’t cheap! Sperry’s or other boat shoes are acceptable at night for men if the rest of the outfit is semi-casual.

Thank you for the comment:)

Yes, this article concerns everyone. No matter the country. Of course, you can wear flip flops , you can even go barefoot if you wish to, but the risk of hurting your feet or slipping on the deck is much higher. Most charter companies require wearing boat shoes because if something happens and someone didn’t follow the guideline, then the company or the owner of the boat will not be covered by their assurance.

However, Sperry’ shoes are the most recommended on boats as they are comfortable and stylish.

But, again, as long as it is non-marking shoes, you are good to go!

I like how you said that the most appropriate clothes for men are loose pants. My wife and I are planning to go on a trip and we have no idea what to wear. I will definitely share this article with my wife to give her ideas of what to wear in case we go to a boat party.

Hi Dereck, This would be a great idea! I am sure your wife will find something nice to wear:) Thank you for the comment and wish you a lovely day!

Roberto Cavalli, Designer Who Celebrated Excess, Dies at 83

From the mid-1990s onward he was one of the biggest names in fashion, with stores around the world and celebrity admirers like Lenny Kravitz and Cindy Crawford.

Roberto Cavalli wearing all black and sunglasses walking with his arms out between two rows of women in white gowns.

By Steven Kurutz

Roberto Cavalli, the Italian fashion designer who celebrated glamour and excess, sending models down the runway and actresses onto red carpets wearing leopard-print dresses, bejeweled distressed jeans, satin corsets and other unapologetically flashy clothes, has died. He was 83.

His company announced the death on Instagram but provided no details.

Mr. Cavalli’s signature style — “molto sexy, molto animal print and molto, molto Italiano,” as the British newspaper The Independent once described it — remained essentially unchanged throughout his long career. But he skillfully reinvented his clothes for different eras, enjoying several renaissances and building a global lifestyle brand in the process.

In the 1970s, Mr. Cavalli designed jackets, jeans and minidresses made from patchwork denim, selling his upscale hippie frocks in a boutique in St. Tropez, on the French Riviera, to actresses like Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren.

For the next two decades, he remained largely unknown outside Europe. Then, in the 1990s, he reinvented luxury denim, first with the sandblasted look and then, in a stroke of invention, by putting Lycra in jeans to make them fit snugger and sexier. When the model Naomi Campbell wore a pair during a runway show in 1993, stretch jeans became a huge trend.

Before that breakthrough, Mr. Cavalli’s business was floundering, and he had considered closing his factory. But from the mid-’90s onward, he was one of the biggest names in fashion, with stores around the world, celebrity admirers like Lenny Kravitz and Cindy Crawford and licenses for everything from jewelry, perfume and sunglasses to children’s clothes, housewares and a Roberto Cavalli-branded vodka, which came packaged in a snakeskin-covered bottle .

Like (Gianni) Versace or Calvin (Klein), Cavalli achieved single-name status: He stood for an immediately recognizable aesthetic.

“Roberto loved excess, but he never lost his point of view,” Nina Garcia, the editor in chief of Elle magazine, said in an email in 2020. “Even when minimalism was the norm, he believed in maximalism. He dressed us thinking that life — and fashion — should be lived at full speed.”

Mr. Cavalli’s attention-grabbing, flesh-baring clothes were not for introverts. Nor was his brand intellectual. Rather, Mr. Cavalli played to fashion’s fun, flamboyant, hedonistic side. A Cavalli outfit commanded attention.

Peter Dundas, who served as the brand’s chief designer and later as creative director before leaving in 2016 to start his own label, said in an interview that Cavalli was for “the pop star that exists within everybody.”

Mr. Cavalli dressed actual pop stars, too. Among them were Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Shakira and the Spice Girls, for whom he designed outfits for their 2007 reunion tour. Two years earlier, Playboy had hired him to revamp the bunny costume.

Lenny Kravitz was another client, a man confident enough to wear a pair of tight leather trousers. “I’m a big fan of the way Miles Davis dressed, in skins and prints and leather, with an urban class and a street vibe, but elegant,” Mr. Kravitz told Vanity Fair in a 2009 profile of Mr. Cavalli. “Roberto has that.”

Permanently bronzed and forever puffing on a cigar, Mr. Cavalli pursued a lifestyle that was as rock ’n’ roll as his clothes. He piloted his own iridescent purple helicopter, sailed the Mediterranean in a matching purple yacht and lived with his family in an ancient, rambling farmhouse outside Florence, Italy, where he maintained a menagerie of parrots, dogs, Persian cats and a pet monkey. He met Eva Duringer, who would become his second wife and his business partner, when he was a judge at the 1977 Miss Universe pageant and she was Miss Austria.

But while Mr. Cavalli was a clever marketer who created an aura of luxury around his brand and his persona, he was also a master craftsman who invented new ways to print, dye and manipulate fabrics. And he mixed materials, color, patterns and prints with an enviable flair.

As he told Women’s Wear Daily in 2013, “I want to get across that behind the fabulous yacht, the champagne, the parties, there’s a man called Roberto Cavalli, who worked very, very hard to create this wonderful life.”

Roberto Cavalli was born on Nov. 15, 1940, in a suburb of Florence, to Giorgio and Marcella (Rossi) Cavalli. His father was a surveyor for a mining company, his mother a seamstress who managed the home.

His early life was marked by tragedy: In 1944, in retaliation for an attack by Italian resistance soldiers, the German Army rounded up a group of local men, including Giorgio Cavalli, and shot and killed them.

Roberto developed a stutter from the shock of his father’s death and became a rebellious teenager. He didn’t find his purpose until he attended the Istituto d’Arte, an art school in Florence, beginning in 1957. (His grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, had been a well-regarded painter.)

Through his training, Mr. Cavalli learned how to print designs on T-shirts and sweaters, and throughout the 1960s he sold to clients like Hermès. In 1970, he invented and patented a technique to print on lightweight leather and suede; that same year, he decided to show his first collection (including leather evening gowns and bathing suits) at the annual Salon du Prêt-à-Porter in Paris.

“People like it, but nobody buys,” Mr. Cavalli told Vanity Fair. “Because it was too new, too unusual.”

He had more success with denim. He bought a cargo container of old jeans from an American prison, washed them, and cut and sewed them back together with leather pieces to create a patchwork. His ornamented, handcrafted, bohemian-chic clothes were perfectly in tune with the rich hippie aesthetic of the early 1970s, when rock musicians wore Nudie suits and East West Leather jackets and their fans embroidered their bluejeans.

Mr. Cavalli’s baroque clothes fell out of favor during the 1980s, when designers like Calvin Klein and Rei Kawakubo sparked a trend toward minimalism. He spent the decade in fashion no-man’s land, and he seemed to hold a grudge toward simplicity itself.

“I like fashion that is different — minimalism is boring,” he told an audience in a talk at the University of Oxford in 2013. “I am a mountain in the minimalism.”

As the 2000s dawned and fashion went global, Mr. Cavalli was back on top. He opened his first United States store in 1999, and by 2010 his fashion house was operating 60 boutiques across the globe. Stylists competed to get their hands on his designs for their celebrity clients, while Carrie Bradshaw, the fictional heroine of “Sex and the City,” dressed in giraffe-spot Cavalli dresses and peony-pattern jeans. His wild clothes and “la dolce vita” image seemed to represent the energy and excitement of the new millennium, with its tabloid socialites, Real Housewives, multiplying awards shows and easy global travel.

As Ms. Garcia said, “He defined the era of unrepentant maximalism.”

Information on his survivors was not immediately available.

Mr. Cavalli had his critics. As was the case with Mr. Versace before him (though he in fact predated that designer’s rise), his clothes were called vulgar, tarty, unsubtle. “This is a man for whom zebra print is a neutral,” The New York Times wrote .

By 2019, after years of high-flying expansion, Mr. Cavalli was experiencing another down period, as was the industry at large. His fashion house closed its U.S. stores and sought bankruptcy protection that year. Zebra prints were out of step with the dressed-down athleisure era.

But Mr. Cavalli was not one to change his stripes. For five decades, he consistently fulfilled that most necessary role in fashion, making clothes that gave wearers the confidence to be the star of their own lives.

During his talk at Oxford, Mr. Cavalli summed up his personal ethos this way: “Fashion that is not crazy is not fashion.”
