Mervyn van der Ploeg discusses the fundamentals behind the success of Akerboom Yacht Equipment – Craftsmanship, Innovation and History
Global Service Network: A Legacy of Excellence Founded in 1860, Akerboom Yacht Equipment has been a cornerstone of Dutch shipbuilding for over 160 years. Known for its deep-rooted heritage in craftsmanship and innovation, Akerboom continues to lead the industry, offering bespoke solutions that enhance the luxury and performance of the world’s finest yachts. Whether it’s through their main facility in the Netherlands or their global service network, Akerboom is dedicated to providing its global clientele unparalleled service and equipment, anytime, anywhere.
The result is a yacht that now boasts enhanced accessibility and luxury, with components that are fully corrosion- resistant and built to last. The project was carried out in Aalsmeer, a region synonymous with Dutch shipbuilding excellence, highlighting Akerboom’s deep connection to its heritage.
Precision and Performance on a Global Stage Akerboom’s reputation for precision and reliability was exemplified in their work on MY Just B, a yacht originally delivered by Amels in 1973. This vessel has traversed the world, and when it required a completely new shaft line system, Akerboom’s team was there to ensure the job was completed correctly, on time and in budget. Traveling to Perth, Australia, Akerboom’s specialists demonstrated their ability to deliver complex engineering solutions anywhere in the world.
Innovation and Collaboration in the Pursuit of Perfection In the luxury yachting world, MY Adventure’s recent transformation is a prime example of Akerboom’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. In close collaboration with industry leaders Azure, and Monaco Marine, Akerboom meticulously developed several technical proposals, each carefully evaluated for its advantages and limitations. The chosen solution was nothing short of ingenious: the gangway was extended by 1.1 metres within its existing housing, bringing the total length to 7.69 metres.
Whether it’s routine maintenance, a complex refit, or an innovative upgrade, Akerboom’s expert team is ready to ensure your yacht remains at the pinnacle of performance and luxury.
With a legacy rooted in craftsmanship and a forward-looking approach to innovation, Akerboom Yacht Equipment is not just maintaining standards but setting them, ensuring your yacht is ready for every journey, anywhere in the world.
