Cruises in the Garden of Eden is the name of this unique boat tour that will take you through a great combination of relaxation, underwater adventures, and island exploration. Discover the paradise of the Seychelles from the water aboard the Pegasos cruising boat, and hop from island to island for four days. The cruise starts every Wednesday from Praslin.

Activities and specials:

Description:

Day 1 (Wednesday): Baie St. Anne, Praslin - Felicité - La Digue At 1pm, it's all aboard the ship at Baie St. Anne on Praslin. The tour will head straight to the island of Félicité in the afternoon, where guests can go swimming, snorkelling, or scuba diving. In the evening, the journey continues to La Digue, where the ship will anchor for the night in the harbour. Day 2 (Thursday): La Digue - Moyenne This day is dedicated to La Digue, one of the most-photographed and most picturesque spots in the Seychelles. Cars can be hard to find on the island, with bikes and the traditional oxcart still serving as the main means of transportation. The (optional) oxcart tour in the morning will take guests to the scenic Anse Source d'Argent, where there will be enough time for a refreshing dip in the sea. In the late afternoon, the journey will continue to Moyenne Island, just across from Mahé. The boat will arrive here in the evening and anchor overnight. Day 3 (Friday): Moyenne Island - Mahé, Inter Island Quay After a short guided tour around Moyenne Island and a bit of time for some swimming, enjoy traditional culinary delights during the beach barbeque. This will also be your last chance to go snorkelling, as the boat leaves Moyenne in the afternoon to steer into the harbour on Mahé, at Victoria. The boat arrives at the quay in the late afternoon, followed by a captain's farewell dinner with live music and dancing. Day 4 (Saturday): Mahé, Victoria Disembarkation 09.00am. Cruise fares include: Accommodation in double or twin cabins with private SH/WC & air conditioning. Full-board: Buffet breakfast and two main meals daily, including a Welcome Cocktail, a Local Theme Evening and Captain’s Dinner. Regular (filter) coffee, tea and drinking water free all day. Use of fishing and snorkeling equipment (subject to availability). Cruise Escort (English-speaking). Walk into centuries old rain forests with unique species of wild life and sight the rare black parrots, the world-famous Coco de Mer palm trees or giant land tortoises.

During your sailing vacation on Pegasus yacht you will indulge life on board with the indoor/outdoor Lounge and American Bar on Upper Deck. Al fresco breakfast or dining is provided as a choice. The spacious Sun Deck is an ideal place for sunbathing, reading a good book or viewing the scenery. This yacht can also boast a Zen mini spa located on the Lower Deck, with massage services that can be also provided on the Upper Deck.

Upper deck of this crewed yacht offers indoor and outdoor dining rooms with seats for all passengers and generous buffet space. The aft area at the upper deck has a great semi-covered or sun-exposed areas where during sailing cruise you can enjoy meals al fresco. Unassigned seating allows easy mingling and the joy of sharing breakfast, lunch, or dinner with different new friends. Food is served at the table or displayed on the state of the art hot & cold buffets, also including a “a la minute cooking” section. During your cabin charter on Pegasus yacht you will be able to choose dishes from international menu and also try local specialties. You will enjoy magnificent sea views as you stroll our 2.500 square feet/240 m2 of open deck furnished with comfortable deck chairs or enjoy a ocean-view dining in the convivial and spacious restaurant area.

The main lounge, with comfortable sofas, has a full-service bar and is the hub of social activities, such as the daily briefings on the destinations visited, and other gatherings. This area is ideal for enjoying the company of your fellow travelers or simply for reading a good book from the library. The adjoining dining area is surrounded by large windows providing beautiful views of the ports of call. It accommodates all guests in one single seating and provides a high standard of cuisine, always with some local flavor. The area was beautifully renovated in 2015 to feature wood flooring and comfortable sofas with soft fabrics in warm beige tones.

Mahe - St Anne Island

Embarkation 15:00 to 16:00 pm. After the Welcome cocktail and safety drill, we leave Port Victoria and sail to nearby St Anne for a refreshing swim stop off the ship. Overnight at anchor near St Anne. Welcome dinner

We leave St Anne Island early in the morning to reach Curieuse. This morning we visit this uninhabited island, once a leper colony and home to giant tortoises. Our walking excursion with a park guide will bring us to the farm, along mangrove forests. Later we return to the beach for a BBQ under the trees. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the beach and sea activities. Overnight at anchor.

In the morning we sail for Cousin Island. Excursion to the Bird Sanctuary which is in the care Bird Life International. A quarter million birds breed on Cousin which also has several nesting beaches for turtles. Later in the afternoon we reach Anse Lazio. In the afternoon we sail to Anse Lazio, Praslin, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Time for water sports, snorkelling or optional diving. Evening at anchor.

Baie St Anne, Praslin

In the morning, we leave for Aride. Our excursion will take you all the way to the top of the island for an amazing view of the island. The island is home to the Wright's gardenia found nowhere else on earth and to bird species like the Audubon's shearwater, the Seychelles warbler. At noon, we sail for St Pierre Island.  We reach St Pierre after lunch for a 3-hour snorkeling and swimming stop. At sunset, we leave St Pierre to sail into Baie St Anne, Praslin. Overnight at dock. Creole Night.

Grand Soeur – La Digue

Praslin Baie St Anne, optional tour to Vallee de Mai. Afternoon sailing to Felicite or Grand Soeur for snorkelling or optional diving excursion.  Arrival in Felicite or Grand Soeur for afternoon snorkeling and swimming. Evening sailing to La Digue. Evening arrival at La Digue. Anchor in front of the port. Overnight in La Digue.

Moyenne Island

Half day optional excursion in La Digue, the most photographed and quaint community in the Seychelles. Our optional excursion will take us to by bus to the Veuve Nature Reserve and through Union Plantation to l’ Anse Source d’ Argent beach. Arrive at L’ Union Estate and tour of the copra kiln, traditional coconut oil mill and the colonial plantation house. Time at Anse Source D’ Argent one of the most magnificent beaches in the world. Marvel at some of Seychelles most impressive rock formations – truly unique, whilst enjoying a refreshment. Time for hunting souvenirs at La Passe, the islands main village, before return to the ship. Late afternoon sailing to Moyenne island, opposite Mahe. Evening arrival at Moyenne. Overnight at anchor.

Mahe, Inter Island Quay

Short guided around the island and time for swim. Beach BBQ on the island. This is the last opportunity for snorkelling and swimming, We leave Moyenne island for Mahe’s Victoria port in the afternoon. Late afternoon we reach the Inter Island Quay – Mahe. Captain’s farewell dinner with live music and dancing. Overnight in Mahe

Additional information

The twin-hulled Pegasus, built in 1990, completely refitted in the winter of 2012, and last renovated in 2015-2016, accommodates up to 44 guests. Outside cabins are located on the Sun Deck (3 cabins), Upper Deck (2 cabins) and Main Deck (16 cabins). All cabins feature large windows and offer en-suite bathrooms with shower, TV/VCR units, music channels, hairdryers, individually controlled A/C and safe deposit boxes. They are large and comfortable, decorated with soft color fabrics. The cabins are equipped with twin or queen size beds with 2 cabins being triple.

Service on board is provided by your Captain and his experienced marine and hotel crew members. It will be attentive or unobtrusive according to your requirements and priority is always given to the safety and comfort of passengers.

Embarkation at Baie St. Anne, Praslin followed by an afternoon sailing to the uninhabited island of Felicité for snorkelling and optional diving excursion. Evening sailing and arrival at La Digue.

Half day optional excursion on La Digue Island, the most photographed and quaint community in the Seychelles. The optional excursion takes guests through Union Plantation to Anse Source d'Argent beach. Arrive at Union Estate and tour the copra kiln, traditional coconut oils mill and the colonial plantation house. Time at Anse Source D'Argent to marvel at some of Seychelles' most impressive rock formations whilst enjoying a refreshment. After, there is time to hunt for souvenirs at La Passe, the island's main village, before returning to the ship. Late afternoon sailing to Moyenne island, opposite Mahé.

Short guided tour around the island and time for a swim. Beach BBQ is served on the island. This is the last opportunity for guests to snorkel and swim before returning back to Victoria, Mahé. Captain's farewell dinner with live music and dancing.

Embarkation and welcome cocktail at the Inter-Island Quay, Mahé, followed by a short sail to St. Anne for a refreshing swim. Evening dinner is served onboard.

Pegasos leaves St. Anne Island early in the morning to reach Curieuse Island, an uninhabited island once a leper colony and home to giant tortoises. A walking excursion with a park guide will bring guests to the farm and along the mangrove forests. Later, return to the beach for a BBQ under the treas. In the afternoon guests can enjoy the beach and sea activities.

In the morning, Pegasos sails to Cousin Island where there is an excursion to the Bird Sanctuary. A quarter million birds breed on Cousin Island which also has several nesting beaches for turtles. In the afternoon, Pegasos sails to Anse Lazio, Praslin, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Time for water sports and snorkelling.

In the morning Pegasos leaves for Aride Island. Guests are taken on an excursion by the island's rangers, taking you all the way to the top of the granite island for the impressive view. The island is home to the Wright's gardenia found nowhere else on earth and to species like the Audubon's shearwater, the Seychelles Warbler. At noon, the vessel sets sail for St. Pierre Island, where guests can swim and snorkel. At sunset, Pegasos sails into Baie St. Anne, Praslin, for a creole themed evening.

Discover the Islands

Mahé island.

With over 65 white sand beaches, Mahé is the main island of the Seychelles with Victoria the charming capital. This verdant granite island enjoys a rich diversity of tropical flora and fauna. Measuring 16 by 4 miles with towering peaks covered with forests, it is an ideal walking and exploring island. Mahé Island is the commercial centre with international banks, supermarkets and small local shops. It was on Mahé that Ian Fleming gained inspiration for his James Bond novel “For Your Eyes Only” at the Hilton Northolme.

La Digue Island

La Digue, the third largest island, measures 3 x 2 miles and is 4 miles from Praslin. La Digue is famous for the incredible sculptured granite rock formations on Source d’Argent beaches. Ox carts and bicycles are the normal mode of transport, reflecting the general pace of life which is gentle and unhurried. The Union Estate boasts a coconut plantation, copra mill, vanilla plantation and Presidential guest house.

Praslin Island

Praslin, the second largest island, measuring 6 x 2.1/2 miles, is home to the Unesco Vallée de Mai site and a number of beautiful beaches such as Anse Lazio. Praslin has a wide range of hotels and the only 18 hole championship golf course in Seychelles. Nearby Curieuse Island is home to 250 breeding giant tortoises as well as ideally situated for short ferry trips to La Digue, Cousin and Aride Island.

Alphonse Island

Located 250 miles from Mahé Island with a 1 hour flight service, Alphonse has a total area of some 4500 acres that includes the island lagoon and surrounding sand flats. A world leading centre for bone-fishing, Alphonse Island is a coral atoll with stunning white sand beaches and a forested interior. The island is protected by a strict conservation programme. Island guests stay in smart beachside bungalows and villas.

Enchanted Island Resort, Round Island, Mahé

A small island, now known as the Enchanted Island Resort. Located 2 miles from Mahe Island it is located within the Marine National Park. This small island has had an interesting history, in the 1800 ‘s once being a detention centre for sufferers of leprosy. After the 2nd world war it became a popular restaurant owned by the Calais family, where Sunday home cooked barbecues were not to be missed.

Cerf Island Mahé

Located 2½ miles off the east coast of Mahé, Cerf Island has an area of 325 acres and has a typically granite topography with a range of small hills along the length of the island, laced by small sandy coves and inlets within the Marine National Park. Cerf is a quiet refuge near to Victoria and has attracted various names such as Wilbur Smith and Bill Travis to live there. Cerf Island Resort, L’Habitation and South Point Villas provide accommodation on the island.

Bird Island

Bird Island is situated 65 miles north of Mahé Island with a wonderful tropical climate. With an area of 250 acres, Bird is a coral cay boasting over 3 miles of soft white sand beaches and home to millions of nesting sooty terns between May and October. It is also an important nesting site for sea turtles. The Island Lodge provides charming bungalow accommodation all year round.

St. Anne Island

Located 2½ miles off Mahé, St.Anne Island is home to the 5 star Beachcomber Resort, within the Marine National Park. One of the first islands to be inhabited in 1770 by Lazare Picault, St.Anne later become a whaling station and in the 2nd World War a re-fuelling depot for the British navy. With a 800ft high granite peak and forested hills & valleys, the island is a fascinating location for walks and exploration.

North Island

Located 17 miles north of Mahé Island, North Island has a ground area of 500 acres with four very attractive sandy beaches. The island is of a granite type with peaks and valleys making for an interesting island for walks and exploration. The island is part of a conservation programme protecting the islands flora and fauna. Guests arrive by either helicopter or boat (weather permitting), staying in luxury beachside villas with a butler to look after their every fancy.

Frégate Island

Frégate Island is 26 miles from Mahé island and is the home to a striking luxury hotel Frégate Island Private. This beautiful granite island of 500 acres has seven beautiful beaches, with Anse Victorin beach recently voted the world’s best. Renowned for its varied bio-diversity and over 2200 giant tortoises the island’s accommodation philosophy is that of sustainability and being at one with nature.

Denis Island

Denis Island is situated 37 miles north of Mahé, with an area of 350 acres. Denis Island is a coral cay shaped almost like that of a tear-drop. Being a cay, the island has beautiful soft sandy beaches with a densely forested hinterland with walks and cycleways. The Denis Island Lodge accommodates guests within its chalet style bungalows. The island farm produces the majority of the island’s food including vegetables and meat, and fresh fish from the surrounding ocean.

Aride Island

Known as the finest seabird island in the western Indian Ocean , Aride Island is an essential part of the itinerary for any visitor to Seychelles. Aride hosts one of the most important seabird populations in the Indian Ocean with more breeding species than any other island in Seychelles. The island is managed as a nature reserve by the  Island Conservation Society  , a UK Registered Charity Aride Island is open to visitors and visits can be arranged by Seychelles Travel.

Curieuse Island

Curieuse island is a small granitic island close to the north coast of Praslin and now part of Curieuse Marine National Park. Home to more than 300 giant tortoises who roam the island at will. The island is notable for its bare red earth with Coco de Mer palms scattered around. The beach is a popular resting place for visitors enjoying a day’s excursion, whilst a volunteer group studies fish, turtle and coral numbers.

Cousin Island

Cousin Island, located 1 mile from Praslin Island is under the auspices of Bird Life International and designated as a Special Reserve. Cousin Island is not only significant for sea birds and endemic land birds but also an important site for Hawksbill Turtles. The Island is the home to the Brush Warbler, the Seychelles Fody, and Seychelles Turtle Dove. The Magpie Robin has recently been introduced. Also found are Audubon's Shearwaters, Bridled Terns, Brown and Black Noddies.

Silhouette Island

As its name suggests, Silhouette Island, when viewed from Mahé Island, a distance of 12 miles, sits boldly to the northern horizon shaped majestically like a craggy mountain top. Five granite peaks in total form the silhouette, within an area of 5000 acres. The island supports three small villages and two hotels, the Hilton Labriz and the Bell Tortue Lodge. Dramatic walks and pathways criss-cross the island making the location an attractive venue for flora and fauna observers.

Félicité Island

Félicité Island is a small heavy forested granitic island 4 kilometres east of La Digue island. Up until the 1970s it was a coconut plantation with a population of about 50 people. Six Senses Zil Pasyon Luxury Resort is now located on Félicité, where massive granite rocks and white sand beaches create an air of drama and beauty. Discover the beautiful Inner Islands of the Seychelles aboard a comfortable small ship, using zodiacs to access the less accessible islands – including the strict reserve of Aride – on exciting included  and optional shore excursions.

Your 45m vessel, M/Y Pegasos, has 21 cabins with a maximum of 44 guests. The ship underwent a significant renovation in July 2019 so now it is more comfortable than ever before and offers even better value. Full Itinerary

Embarkation 1500 to 1600 hours. After the welcome cocktail and safety drill, we leave Port Victoria and sail to nearby St Anne for a refreshing swim stop off the ship. Overnight at anchor near St Anne. Welcome dinner.

Staying at M/Y Pegasos. Includes Dinner.

We leave St Anne Island early in the morning to reach Curieuse. This morning we visit this uninhabited island, once a leper colony and home to many giant tortoises. Our walking excursion with a park guide will bring us to the farm, walking through mangrove forests. Later we return to the beach for a BBQ under the trees. In the afternoon we can enjoy the beach and sea activities. Overnight at anchor.

Staying at M/Y Pegasos. Includes All Meals.

In the morning we sail for Cousin Island. Excursion to the Bird Sanctuary which is in the care Bird Life International. A quarter million birds breed on Cousin which also has several nesting beaches for turtles. Later in the afternoon we reach Anse Lazio one of the Seychelles’ loveliest beaches. Time for water sports, snorkelling or optional diving. Evening at anchor.

In the morning we leave for Aride. Our excursion will take us all the way to the top of the island for an amazing view of the hundreds of frigatebirds on the other side. The island is home to the Wright's gardenia, found nowhere else on Earth, and to bird species like Audubon's shearwater and the Seychelles warbler. At noon we sail for St Pierre Island. We reach St Pierre after lunch for a three-hour snorkelling and swimming stop. At sunset, we leave St Pierre to sail into Baie St Anne, Praslin. Overnight at dock. Creole Night celebration with an al fresco dinner.

Today we sail from Baie St Anne, Praslin to Felicite or Grand Soeur, then to La Digue. When at Praslin Baie St Anne, you may choose an optional tour to the Vallee de Mai. Afternoon sailing to Felicite or Grand Soeur for snorkelling. Arrival in Felicite or Grand Soeur for afternoon snorkelling and swimming, followed by an evening sailing to La Digue. Anchor in front of the port and overnight in La Digue.

Half day optional excursion in La Digue, the most photographed and quaint community in the Seychelles. Our optional excursion will take us through Union Plantation to l’ Anse Source d’ Argent beach. This is the last opportunity for snorkelling and swimming, We leave Moyenne for Mahe’s Victoria port in the afternoon. Late afternoon we reach the Inter Island Quay, Mahe. Captain’s farewell dinner with live music and dancing. Overnight at anchor in Mahe.

M/Y Pegasos

The twin-hulled, 147 feet long M/Y Pegasos – built in 1990, completely refitted in early 2016 and significantly renovated in July 2019 – accommodates up to 44 guests in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere.

In the 2019 renovation, the indoor bar, lounge and dining areas were completely renewed; the sundeck was fitted with new furniture and a wooden bar; and in the cabins new bedding, wallpaper, soft furnishings, floors and carpets were installed and the bathrooms completely modernised with marble touches and stone flooring.

On board, you will enjoy magnificent sea views as you stroll along the 2,500 square feet/240 m2 of open deck furnished with comfortable deck chairs, or enjoy a delightful meal in the restaurant or al fresco. You can relax with friends in the lounge, browse in the well-stocked library or enjoy ocean-view dining in the convivial and spacious restaurant area. A low platform at the stern enables you to swim directly from the ship when weather and anchorage conditions permit.

Life on board centres around the indoor/outdoor lounge and the American Bar, both on Upper Deck. The adjoining dining area is surrounded by large windows providing beautiful views of the islands and seascapes. It accommodates all guests in one single seating and provides a good standard of cuisine, always with some local flavour. Al fresco breakfast or dining is provided on occasion. The spacious Sun Deck is the ideal place to bask under the sun, read a good book or just gaze at the scenery. Service on board is provided by your Captain and his experienced marine and hotel crew members. It will be attentive or unobtrusive according to your requirements and priority is always given to the safety and comfort of passengers. You can visit the Zen mini spa, housed in a cabin located on the Lower Deck, for a relaxing massage.

The twin-hulled Pegasus, built in 1990, completely renovated in the winter of 2019 it accommodates up to 44 guests in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere. Sehr geehrtes Pegasus Team Wir durften eine erlebnisreiche Woche auf ihrem wunderschönen Schiff verbringen.Die familiäre Atmosphäre hat uns sehr gut gefallen.Der Reiseleiter Pietro hat sehr viel dazu beigetragen !! Er hat all unsere Wünsche wenn möglich erfüllt und uns durch die wunderschöne Inselwelt mit all ihren facetten des Wetters geführt. Ein grosses Dankeschön an ihn!! Das Essen war von bester Qualität und wurde wunderschön presentiert. Die Auswahl von Fisch oder Fleisch war ausgezeichnet. Ein grosses Kompliment an die Küche!! Die Kabine wurde jeden Tag gereinigt und als Überraschung ein kunstvolles Handtuchtier auf das Bett gesetzt. Alles klappte wie am Schnürchen. Die Mannschaft ist gut aufeinander eingespielt! New to the Fleet: Pegasus Yachts 50

Pegasus Yachts has found strong momentum since the European premiere of its Pegasus 50. With the latest two hulls, Nos. 9 and 10, going to US owners, that momentum is now swinging over to North America. 

Located in Slovenia, Pegasus Yachts was founded in 2019 by the same team who, for more than 20 years, built large carbon-displacement ­cruising yachts with oceangoing capabilities. Miha Breskvar and Marko Paš established Pegasus Yachts for bluewater cruising. The Pegasus 50 is for clients who value fast, lightweight displacement, as well as comfortable living spaces. The Pegasus 50’s flexible layout forward of the salon allows for configurations tailored to cruising plans, crew preferences and the owners’ ­accommodations needs.

Among the Pegasus 50’s features are a convertible roof with retractable canvas over the cockpit. A tempered-glass sliding door protects the two-step entry to the salon from the cockpit. The living spaces take a note from catamaran design, with 360-degree views from the cockpit, salon and navigation station. Two technical lockers isolate the wet and dry onboard systems from the living space for quieter cruising.

A 75 hp Volvo Penta diesel engine is standard, though Pegasus offers an electric option, found on three of its existing hulls. The P50’s energy package includes a generator, a hydro-generator, and solar integrated into the deck with a 716-watt peak capacity. An optional third LiFePO4 battery adds a capacity of 600 amp-hours at 25.4 volts.

The Pegasus 50 also has an induction cooktop, a watermaker, heating and air conditioning, and a dinghy with an electric outboard that’s stored in the garage for launching from the swim platform.

Construction is vacuum-­infusion, with extensive use of carbon and composite for light weight and strength. Displacement is just over 29,000 pounds. A double wing keel reduces leeway, improving the upwind angle with less drag and enhancing close-quarters maneuverability. A carbon mast, performance full-batten mainsail, and self-tacking J2, larger J1 (650 SF) and asymmetrical furling spinnaker are standard. An optional furling reacher/code zero is available. 

The Pegasus 50 is rigged for short crew or solo sailing (a P50 won the 2022 OSTAR singlehanded race across the North Atlantic), with all working lines brought back to the helms, each equipped with two electric winches—a convenience for couples and families cruising offshore, as well as the solo speed-seekers who value a certain degree of comfort underway.

Motor Yacht

Luxury motor yacht Pegasus V was built in 2003 by Danish shipyard Royal Denship, and combines smart style with indulgent facilities across her six decks. With steel hull and aluminium/GRP superstructure, she features exterior design by Espen Oeino, while her interior is the work of Francois Zuretti. This modern vessel measures 76.91 metres and can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Her Beach Club is arguably the yacht’s greatest feature which can also be used as a tender garage. Aside from being a dry dock for the custom-built tender also designed by Espen Oeino, the area can be filled with water to create a 12 metre swimming pool complete with step entry and underwater lighting. Adding to its beach club name, the starboard hull wall can lower to just above sea level, presenting a teak area for sunloungers. When the area is flooded, the tenders can simply drive out through the transom door.

Amongst her six cabins are an indulgent owner’s cabin complete with sea balcony; two VIP suites; two double staterooms; and a twin cabin. All have plasma televisions and private en suites. The owner’s suite, with its king bed, two showers, steam rooms and spa can be found below deck.

Boasting a full range of exciting entertainment options Pegasus V also has a 13-seat cinema, gym, and a party deck complete with two bars, a dance floor, grand piano, barbeque, several seating areas and a spa pool among her extensive list of amenities. You will also find onboard a 1,000 bottle tequila cellar and a helipad which can be converted to a golf driving range with a large screen.

The luxury motor yacht is equipped with an armada of water toys to provide endless hours of entertainment during any yacht charter. Besides a range of tenders including Moon Goddess, water toys include Jet Skis and Wave Runners.

Pegasus V carries a Lloyds classification and is MCA compliant.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
