Boat Scrapyard is the one stop marine chandlery shop where we list all of the boat parts we recycle from end of life boats. We also have brand new items which are surplus chandlery stock. The aim is to have the biggest selection of new and used boat parts for sale around.

Our sister company  Boatbreakers, source end of life boats through their marine recycling network. Many of the boat parts we sell will be extremely hard to get hold of due to the boats they come from no longer being in production.

The Boat Scrapyard team will always try and price each item for a fair price. Unless an item is brand new it will very rarely be anywhere near the full retail price. So there should be plenty of boaty bargains!

Well-known member.

Some on here will be familiar with Arthur’s chandlery in Gosport and how the business has been on the market for some time. I called in a few moments ago and was told to my dismay that they cannot find a buyer and so are going to close the business - probably at the end of June or beginning of July. That’s enormously sad as another small chandlers (who has been really helpful in the past) is going. I’ve tried to support him with my business and tried to avoid some of the big mega chandleries but it looks as though size will out in the end.

Blimey. I used to know the original owners. Went in there a lot when I ran HMS Dolphins yacht a billion years ago. When they open the portakabin shop at Haslar Matina in its early days, my wife worked there for over a year when we first lived aboard. Stocktaking individual trays of gazillions of nuts and bolts was never her favourite pastime. Guess it's all online now. Shame.

What a shame, I try to put a bit of business the way of the individual chandlers around Brighton - Nicky's at the marina, though most of their income I suspect comes from canvas and sail work, G P Barnes in Portslade which is a true Aladdin's cave of a place where you can still get gas refills and not a chandlers but another great place Namrick AKA the Nut & Bolt store in Hove for stainless & electrical bits & pieces...  

That’s a real shame. When we were based at Royal Clarence we used to source everything from Arthur’s and Hardway. It’s a bit far now from the Clyde to Arthur’s to get some bits. ?  

That’s very sad. I wonder if Sophia will continue with canvas work separately.  

Sad to hear that. I started buying from Arthur's in 1997 and continued doing so until I took my boat to France in 2014. A nice couple ran it. They were members of Hornet SSC.

Great shame. I've used them in preference to any other chandlers for the same reasons as many others here: unfailingly helpful and an amazing stock of tiny items like buts and bolts which they sold for pennies, and good prices on everything else. Tough business. I first discovered them when they were on Forton Road shortly after I moved to Gosport Marina. Their move to Mumby Road looked great until YouBoat landed right outside Gosport Marina. YouBoat is useful too, but I found Arthur's friendlier and more helpful. Competing with YouBoat *and* all the online retailers must be a real challenge.

yep that Old Addage is so very true , especially these days , I fear - 'Use em or loose em' my guess is the name of the game , these days - I do get quite angry when some mention /suggest in a post , that 'so an so' online is only **" its as if those posters do not realise the damage them are doing to our Boating world support facilities ; URG n URG Awaiting incomming flack plus poss smacking (in principle)

I used to frequently go to Gael Force in Inverness, which has now a much reduced 'in shop stock level', so it's easier/quicker to buy the item online from them , which is frustrating.

Yacht Charter Gosport

Just a short hop by ferry from Gunwharf Quay in Portsmouth and its famous Royal Navy dockyard, Gosport has an illustrious military history in its own right. For many years home to an important military hospital, it has had five defensive forts overlooking Portsmouth Harbour over time that were designed to protect the port from invasion.

Today there is still an obvious presence of the military (just look across the harbour to see the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth or the other ships in the current fleet when in port) but the economy is geared more towards its marinas and that of a quiet suburb.

Have a poke around the marinas of Gosport today and you never know what you may see - home to world famous solo sailor Alex Thomson's Hugo Boss IMOCA 60 racing and training yachts for many years, and just across from the UK America's Cup team base - there is still a lot going on in this apparently quiet backwater!

You will likely be going to Gosport to get to Gosport Marina or Haslar Marina, that are home to many charter yachts, have all the services you require, and are easily accessed by train and ferry via Portsmouth Harbour train station and with good road links to the M271 and national motorway network.

Explore Gosport By Renting A Yacht

Just a short hop across the river from Gosport is Portsmouth Historic Royal Naval Dockyard with its old warships, Admiral Nelson's HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and King Henry VIII's Mary Rose. The nightlife is excellent on Gunwharf Quay as is the shopping.

On the water there is a lot to do. Do you want to go on a luxurious skippered charter or bareboat? Crewed catamarans or motor yacht? The Gosport yacht charter fleet has these and more.

Heading out from Haslar Marina, Gosport Marina or Royal Clarence Marina on your Solent yacht charter you have easy access to the UK's favourite boating hotspot, the Solent. Out past Southsea's beach you can reach the relaxed and beautiful Chichester Harbour with its interesting wildlife and saltmarshes.

There's a lot to be seen to the west too. Cowes on the Isle of Wight is one of the world's most important sailing centres with a number of international sailing events through the year. You never know whom you could be rubbing shoulders with in its fantastic pubs after a fun day afloat - sailors of all walks of life spend time there! Do take a quiet pause at Fishbourne on the island - a respite from the hustle and bustle of Cowes!

As a crow flies to the south of Cowes (but remember the Bramble Bank that prevents you from sailing due south!) is Southampton Water and the River Hamble with its important marinas at Port Hamble Marina and Hamble Point. The pubs can be at least as buzzing as Cowes in the height of summer too!

West again you can see the beautiful Lymington and Beaulieu River, both highlights of what could be an excellent Gosport yacht charter.

How To Get To Gosport

By train: Gosport's marinas are a short walk from the Gosport to Portsmouth ferry. The ferry from Gosport terminates at Gunwharf Quay, a short walk from Portsmouth Harbour train station. This has direct trains to London and its international airports.

By road: Gosport is easily accessed from the M271 and has good links to the UK national motorway network.

By air: Southampton City Airport has good links to Europe and is about an hour by train from Gosport.

By sea: Portsmouth ferry port runs regular services to Spain and France

Marinas In Gosport

There are three major marinas in Gosport that are home to charter yachts. You can bareboat charter or take a skippered yacht charter on a catamaran , monohull sailing yacht or motor yacht out on the Solent with these as a base. These all have excellent marina facilities.

Suggested Sailing Routes From Gosport

Over a seven or 14 day Solent yacht charter you can enjoy the best of the South Coast on your skippered yacht charter or bareboat charter, mixing some of the best yachting towns in the UK with quiet evenings at a mooring buoy watching the world go by.

The Solent - 7 days: Over a seven day Gosport yacht charter you can happily stay within Southampton Water and the Solent and take in the fantastic boating and sailing nightlife. Amongst the highlights are the Hamble River with its marinas including Port Hamble Marina, Cowes and Portsmouth's rival port, Southampton. Lymington, Christchurch and the Beaulieu River are in the New Forest, all connected with the fun to be had by a day's sailing on the Solent.

14 days - South Coast and Brighton: This is an opportunity to explore coastal delights like Chichester, Bognor Regis and the outermost point of the 14 day trip at the seaside towns of Brighton and its neighbour Eastbourne. The famous Seven Sisters cliffs are one of the stand out sights of the South Coast. Coming back in a few short days on your catamaran or monohull yacht, you can explore the Isle of Wight's sailing ports of Bembridge and Cowes.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Gosport

The sailing season runs from late March to mid September on the UK South Coast, though you will see hardier types afloat throughout the year. There can be gales at any time of year, with Westerlies especially fierce through the Solent. In the peak boat rental season of July and August it can still be fun sailing, though the bars and marinas can be expensive and full.

Cowes Week? You will need to book well in advance, both marinas and mooring buoy moorings as well as restaurants and other hospitality! A motor yacht can be a good way to make new friends during this event too...

Sailing Weather In Gosport

April and May: Westerlies prevail but you will often find warm days with brisk sailing conditions of a F4-5. Gales will come through earlier in the year, funnelling through the Solent and hitting F10-12 in gusts. This is Britain - expect rain!

June-August: In June there will be southerly and westerly gales at times but these tend to die out in July and August with the Azores High moving north and providing settled conditions and light easterlies. Expect temperatures in the high 20s C range with the odd few days at 30C plus. As ever, keep your oilies to hand as even in the height of summer things can change.

September-October: Grey skies and gales start to return. While often in the high teens Celsius in September with some great sailing conditions, the westerly procession of lows start coming up the English Channel and things can get a little uncomfortable by early October.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

There are three major marinas in Gosport - Gosport Marina and Haslar Marina both have more than 500 berths while Royal Clarence has around 170. These are a short walk from the Gosport Ferry across Portsmouth Harbour with its transport links to London.

May to August is best for sailing, though the first week of August is Cowes Week and launches the peak sailing season locally where it can be difficult to get a berth or table at a restaurant!

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.

Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.

These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
