What kind of wildlife can we see on a daytime yacht party?

Depending on the location and the time of year it is possible to see humpback whales, blue whales (summer to fall), grey whales (winter to spring), minke whales, bottlenose Dolphins, seals, sea lions, pelicans, and more.

Can I decorate the yacht for my boat party?

Guests are welcome to decorate the boats, as long as no damage is incurred with the decorations.

Where will my yacht charter party go?

All charters are based on customers wishes and their location departure.

Are children included in the guest count?

Yes, children are included in guest counts. Children below 13 year old are also required to wear life jackets on yachts.

What type of clothing should I wear on a yacht charter party?

Ideally guests should dress comfortably. Layers are advised as it can be windier and colder on the water than on land. Don´t forget your sunscreen and sunglasses.

What to wear to a boat party at night?

On an evening yacht charter party it is important to dress warmly. While the boats do have interiors that can keep deduce the wind factor an evening on the water can be chilly. So it is best to dress in warm layers.

Can I wear high heels to a party on a yacht?

High heels can be worn on some boats. On large party boats with 30+ guests it should be fine. It is not practical on the smaller boats as you will be walking around on different levels and materials and it can be dangerous. A better solution would be a pretty flat, a fancy sandal, or a short mule if you must.

What do I need to bring to a boat party?

For a boat party on a yacht it’s best to bring whatever will make you comfortable. Some guests like to bring an extra sweater, favorite snacks and drinks, sunscreen, sea sickness pills, and if it's a birthday party a gift for the host.

How soon in advance do I need to book a yacht for a party?

Our bookings are based on a first come first serve basis. To make sure your preferred date and time is available it's best to confirm the date and time as soon as possible.

How do I start a yacht party?

Gather everyone together and share a toast to get the party started. Then play the music and let everyone mingle around in the different corners of the boat. This will make a boat party come to life.

Am I expected to tip the captain and crew?

Gratuity is not included in the price and while not required it is always greatly appreciated. Any tips provided are split between the captain and crew.

Can I bring food and beverage aboard for a boat party?

Guests are welcome to bring food and beverage aboard.

Are refreshments included for a yacht party?

Refreshments are not included in the pricing. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drink.

Is there a place we can go to swim during a yacht party?

We can offer swimming from our San Pedro & Long Beach departure locations.

What is a bareboat charter?

- A bareboat charter is a vessel that is leased by the owner to another person (a “charterer”) for a period of time without a captain or crew; - A bareboat charter is a vessel that is considered a recreational vessel and may not be subject to Passenger Vessel inspections by the United States Coast Guard; - Once the charterer takes possession of the vessel, the charterer becomes entirely responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel and its passengers; - The owner of the vessel is generally not responsible for any collision, personal injuries, and wages for the crew - The charterer is responsible for the vessel’s crew, fuel, insurance, any maintenance and repairs, and any liability associated with use and possession of the vessel; - The charterer must have the option of selecting and paying crew and may discharge the master or any crew member without referral to the owner; - The owner may require general levels of proficiency for the crew that is retained based on federal statutes; and - Charterers and passengers are solely responsible for making sure they understand and agree to the terms of any bareboat charter agreement.

Have questions before you embark on your adventure?

A Bareboat Agreement is a legal document between the owner or broker and the charterer that outlines the key information of your private yacht charter. It will detail the vessel information, date, time, pickup location, terms and conditions, insurance and cancellation.

A Captain and Crew Agreement is a legal document between the charterer, captain and crew member that the charterer chooses. It will outline the terms and conditions of the captain and crew for hire for your bareboat charter. 

Although not mandatory, it is customary to leave a gratuity for the work of the crew and the captain at the end of yacht rentals for birthdays . Standard gratuity is 15-20% of the charter fee. The captain will make sure gratuity is split with the crew.

In almost all cases, you are allowed to bring your own food and beverages for your party yacht rental. We ask that red wine, colored frosting or any kind of food that can stain stay on land. 

Chartering a yacht can make for an excellent family vacation, with activities to entertain both children and adults. In general the crew is not responsible for their safety. We recommend that you bring childcare if you want to truly relax and have a carefree time while ensuring your children are being looked after. Crew can assist in most ways however. If you have toddlers or infants when you rent a yacht for a party please let the captain or person handling your booking know so proper life jackets can be provided. Proper youth, toddler or infant life jackets are required.

Typically pets are not allowed aboard for health and safety reasons, and sea travel can be extremely uncomfortable for animals. If you need to be accompanied by your pet for any reason, we ask that you check with us for the yacht’s pet policy.

In general, smoking is not permitted inside or outside most yachts, and is strictly forbidden in any cabins or staterooms. Flames of any kind are prohibited inside, outside or on the swim platform. Burns from ashes happen very quickly on fiberglass, vinyl canvas or teak.

Five bodies found inside superyacht that sank off Sicily

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers recovered four bodies Wednesday from inside a superyacht that sank in a sudden storm off Sicily , Salvatore Cocina, director of the island's Civil Protection Agency, confirmed to NBC News.

Cocina later confirmed to Sky News that a fifth body had been found and was being brought to shore. One passenger remains missing.

The identities of the bodies were not immediately released. Their recovery follows a dayslong search in the deep waters off Italy where British tech tycoon Mike Lynch  and several others were believed to be trapped in the hull. Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived.

The rest had been missing since early Monday, when the Bayesian was caught in the storm anchored off the coast of Porticello, a village near the Sicilian capital city, Palermo.

The body of the ship’s cook, identified as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian Antiguan national, was recovered Monday. 

On Wednesday, NBC News witnessed what appeared to be at least three body bags being lifted from fire department boats after they pulled into port at Porticello. It was unclear whose bodies they were. Some were later transferred to ambulances and driven away from the dock.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing. 

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was among the survivors rescued by a nearby vessel after they got into a lifeboat.

Built by the Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered yacht could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist boating sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.  

Regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” Lynch was  acquitted of fraud by a San Francisco jury this year, stemming from the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Bloomer, who testified in his defense, and Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers, on the trip.

Lynch's co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian, but in what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a  car struck and killed  him Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.

They're in! Fast schools of false albacore blitz the coast, supercharge fishing

It's late August, and like clockwork the false albacore are in.

It would be hard to pinpoint their exact arrival but on Wednesday, like the flick of a switch, albie reports starting coming in from boat captains. It's probably a combination of the change in wind direction and the late summer build up of bait that has the speedsters darting over the inshore lumps and coming into the nearshore water. It's making for some electric fishing.

Greg Cudnik at Fisherman's Headquarters in Ship Bottom was on his way to drift a couple of small wrecks off the north end of Island Beach State Park for fluke when a small school of albies popped up in front of his boat. On board with him was Carey Harmon, Ian Harmon and James DeMatteis. They followed the fish to the north, jigging the schools, and when the quick flurry died down they had boated eight fish. Cudnik said the albies came in as shallow as 25 to 30 feet of water.

Capt. Howard Bogan on the Jamaica party fishing boat had shots of false albacore between 6 and 12 miles from Manasquan Inlet. The biggest one landed was 8 pounds. His fare also reeled in a bunch of bluefish and bonito. Bogan said his high hooks had 30 fish. The fish were caught on bait and jigs, but small metals were certainly drew the most attention from the fish. Bogan said most everyone tied up with Epxoy jigs or AVA jigs size 017 and 027.

The albies had not yet come with casting reach of surf and jetty hoppers, but the bonito and blues have. Both fish are coming in on the tides for the bait schools schooling at the mouth of the inlets. Grumpy's Bait and Tackle reported a bonito catch of the off the north jetty of Manasquan Inlet on Thursday morning.

Before he left, Cudnik said they stayed in Barnegat Inlet for a couple of hours jigging tons of 4 to 8 pound bluefish. Cudnik said some bigger bluefish have moved in because before Wednesday he had been catching the smaller, cocktail size variety. Cudnik said the bay and inlet were loaded with peanut bunker, spearing and rainfish, or anchovies as they're also called.

Capt. Dave DeGennaro on the Hi Flier charter boat is catching weakfish in Barnegat Bay. He took a party of anglers out and chummed with grass shrimp to get the weakfish in the slick. He said they used light, 6-pound tackle and had a lot of bites. Three of the weakfish they reeled in were legal size limit of 13 inches. They also dropped another one by the boat that would be have been a keeper.

The fishing was pretty non-stop as his party also caught fluke, snapper blues, perch, spot and sand sharks as the bay fishery is peaking.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The legislature of Mexico City approved the most ambitious rent control law since the 1940s Thursday, limiting rent increases to the rate of inflation in the previous year.

Rents in the vast city of 9 million inhabitants were essentially frozen in the 1940s, and remained so for decades on older buildings. Those controls were largely lifted in the 1990s.

The new law will also require landlords to register all rental agreements with the city. It was unclear whether the new law will allow landlords to charge more for improvements on their properties.

Mexico City, like many around the world, had seen complaints that rents were shooting up because of digital nomads and short-term rentals. But it appears that largely affected only a handful of touristy neighborhoods near the center of the sprawling metropolis .

“A lot of people with higher incomes are willing to pay more for housing, both by buying and renting it,” said legislator Martha Soledad Avila Ventura of the governing Morena party. “Moreover, short-term rentals on the internet have made it a question of profit, which has resulted in the expulsion of the traditional residents of the capital.”

In recent years, a shortage of land and saleable properties has sparked a cut-throat real estate market in which property prices increased well above the rate of inflation.

However, the new law doesn’t address the city’s real problem: a shortage of housing units. Legislators estimated there are about 2.7 million houses and apartments in the city, but it needs about 800,000 more.

The city has long depended on private developers to build housing, and it is unclear whether the new law could discourage investment in residential construction.

Rent control has a complex history in Mexico City. Under the 1940s fixed-rent laws, inflation quickly decimated rents in real terms, resulting in people paying pocket change for apartments. Landlords gradually abandoned the buildings, because the rental income was insufficient to pay for even routine maintenance.

Old rental laws also made it hard to evict tenants for non-payment and gave some tenants the right of first refusal if the units they lived in were put up for sale. That caused a distortion in rental markets, with many landlords preferring to rent to foreigners, who were viewed as less likely to invoke those protections.

In the 1950s and ’60s, the government built several large housing complexes in the city, though rarely for renting. Those apartments were almost always put up for sale to new buyers once completed.

The current city government has no real plans for constructing large numbers of its own rental units, nor does it have the money or construction know-how to do so.

Moreover, almost any new construction is out of reach for the poorest residents. Mexico’s minimum wage is equivalent to about $1.50 per hour and the median wage is only about $4 per hour.

President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, also of the Morena party, has said she hopes to implement a rent-to-buy program. Poorer tenants would pay a reduced-rate rent, and if they obtained a government housing loan, the rent they paid previously would be applied to the purchase price.

She also wants the federal housing agency, which is financed through payroll deductions funding individual accounts for each worker, to start building housing itself. At present, the agency acts largely as a financing agency, granting loans to acquire homes built by private developers.
