This Secret Floating Bar in New York City Harbor Is the Best Place to Enjoy Summer

The Honorable William Wall is the clubhouse of the Manhattan Yacht Club. It's also a place for the public to get three sheets to the wind.

Honorable William Wall Manhattan Yacht Club

We're about to let you in on a secret.

While it sounds like something out of a preppy dream, a two-story barge moored just just north of Ellis Island, which operates as a floating bar from May through October, is most definitely real.

Ostensibly the clubhouse of the Manhattan Yacht Club, which organizes races in New York City Harbor, the Honorable William Wall invites members of the public to imbibe on its premises from Tuesday to Friday from 5:15 to 9:45 p.m. and from 1 to 4 and 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Guests can bring their own food to accompany their cocktails.

Honorable William Wall

In 2012, the yacht club opened itself up to the public. It's now accessible through a vintage motorboat called the Admiral's Launch, which picks up guests at the Warren Street Ferry stop in Jersey City (the Little Lady ferry provides transportation from the World Financial Center Ferry Terminal in Manhattan to Jersey City).

"The Honorable William Wall makes it possible for people to discover New York Harbor in an easy and friendly manner," Fortenbaugh tells T&C . "The views of the sailboat races and skyline are incredible and inspiring. Everyone should come visit."

Tickets for the launch can be purchased here and the hours of operation are available here .

Summer is almost here, so what are you waiting for?

The New York Harbor Sailing Foundation’s  12 Meter Program  is an invitation to a select group of sailing enthusiasts to help support and preserve two America’s Cup 12 Meters. These yachts are important pieces of American yachting history.

The 12 Meter class has inspired many generations of sailors. They are iconic and majestic yachts which personify the beauty of sailing.  12 Meters are the pinnacle of American yachting tradition.

12 Meters & the America’s Cup

manhattan yacht club nyc

In 1907, the International Rule (also known as the Meter Rule) was established by the new International Yacht Racing Union to coordinate international racing. This rule led to the development of the many classes and the most popular were the 15 Meter, 12 Meter, 8 Meter and 6 Meter. 12 Meters were used in the Olympics from 1908 to 1920 and over the years, more than 300 yachts have been built under the 12 Meter rule.

In 1958, the 12 Meter class was selected to revive the America’s Cup Races. This catapulted the 12 Meter class into the limelight and they became the most iconic and famous yachts in American history.

12 Meters raced for the America’s Cup from 1958 to 1987. The names of yachts like Intrepid, Courageous, Australia II and Stars & Stripes helped define these generations.

12 Meters in the America’s Cup Finals, 1958 to 1983

When Australia won the America’s Cup in 1983, many tears were shed. But in fact, this loss would lead to the greatest America’s Cup in history, and the peak of the 12 Meter class. Here comes 1987 and one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.

1987 & the Greatest Year of the America’s Cup

America II (US 46) Comes to NY Harbor

On the 20 th Anniversary of the Manhattan Yacht Club in 2007, a group of visionary Members responded to the Commodore’s suggestion to commemorate the occasion by doing something special – acquiring a 12 Meter. This is how US 46 came to New York harbor. Read more about this story .

Acquisition of the Second 12 Meter

Frequently in life, the most interesting opportunities arrive at the most inopportune times. In 2015, the opportunity arrived to acquire a second 12 Meter, US 46’s sistership. The Foundation decided to “Go For It.”  Read more about this story.

What our program is trying to accomplish:

The main goal of the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation’s 12 Meter Program is: to be a good caretaker of these important pieces of American yachting history.

This means raising enough money to properly restore, maintain and preserve these 12 Meters. This also means building an endowment so the 12 Meters continue to inspire after we are gone. And finally, this means sailing these iconic 12 Meters so they inspire and engage more people.

We accomplish these goals by inviting people who care about sailing and historic preservation to join our 12 Meter Syndicate  “ Syndicate Member ” and make annual donations to support this program. In addition to donations made by Syndicate Members, the Foundation generates revenue by selling tickets to paying passengers and offering private charters. Our main annual fundraiser is the 12 Meter Dinner before the Sailors Ball in April.

How You Can Get Involved

If you are a sailing enthusiast and would like to help with the restoration and preservation of these iconic 12 Meters, please consider this an invitation to join the effort. This is a rare opportunity to be part of something historically significant and special.

CLICK HERE to Join the NYHSF 12 Meter Syndicate

You do not have to be an experienced sailor to support this mission of historic preservation. If you are a novice sailor or just a sailing enthusiast, this is an opportunity to get more involved in the world of sailing.

A group of angry guests were screaming at the General Manager by the podium after being informed that they would be seated inside because they booked late; Not sure how he kept his composure. The table the GM assigned us was on the lower deck next to another group of angry individuals who complained that trees were blocking their view and refused to eat until another table was offered. A table to our right was dissatisfied that they were not seated with the band upstairs. The couple across from us was complainin' and sighing that the umbrellas were up. I have never encountered so many self-privileged, miserable guests at one venue in my life. I am pleased to report that my family and friends had a wonderful time celebrating the Fourth of July. As the general manager stopped by, we assured him that we would submit a review describing the bickering we witnessed from the tables around us, so here it is. Ex-TAO hostess accused of tossing poop in NYC hotspot’s koi pond busted for feces fling

A former hostess accused of throwing poop at swanky downtown nightclub TAO was arrested Monday for tainting the hotspot’s koi pond.

Ariel Roman, 24, was cuffed just after noon outside Manhattan Criminal Court, where she’d appeared for a hearing in a separate harassment case.

The ex-TAO Hospitality Group employee was charged with burglary – by entering an establishment she knew she was banned from and damaging property inside the restaurant – and criminal mischief in connection with the poop toss around midnight on June 2, police said.

The upscale downtown establishment sued Roman, claiming the feces fling had cost it a whopping $3,135 in damages, according to court records.

Roman was due in court on Monday for an appearance relating to harassment charges stemming from interactions with a TAO-affiliated promoter, she told The Post. She pleaded not guilty to those charges last month.

“This is based on a fake report,” she said before things hit the fan outside court. “They said I was stalking him and harassing him by sending him repeated texts and stuff, which isn’t true whatsoever.”

Her arrest came less than a day after Roman claimed to The Post her ex-coworkers were falsely reporting threatening incidents involving her because she tried to whistleblow about alleged sexual assault and drink spiking at the hands of TAO promoters.

She claimed she has also been receiving countless anonymous messages to her online accounts threatening to keep making false police reports against her to land her in jail.

“These people are after me and won’t leave me alone,” she said.

The ex-hostess was also charged with assault Monday in another incident after allegedly throwing a bottle at someone at the Hearsay nightclub, causing liquid to splash into the victim’s eye and causing burning last December.

Roman was last arrested on June 1, when she was charged with aggravated harassment after allegedly showing up outside the Nebula nightclub and shouting threats, police said.

TAO claims Roman is an “unhinged and violent” ex-employee on a rampage of “harassing and threatening behavior,” according to its lawsuit filed June 11 in Manhattan Supreme Court.

But Roman contends she is a #MeToo whistleblower who cannot be silenced.

The ex-hostess claimed she’s been targeted for speaking out about alleged sexual assault incidents at the hands of promoters at TAO — and that she flung the feces in an attempt to draw attention to the issue.

“That’s my desperation,” she told The Post on Sunday. “That’s what led me to do something to get on the news with the TAO [poop throw] thing. I’m desperate because nobody’s taking accountability.”

The drama started in late 2022 when Roman broke up with her boyfriend, a TAO promoter, whom she alleges threatened to strangle her cat, sexually assaulted her and impregnated two women while they were together.

“I was genuinely having a mental health crisis,” she said. “I was literally outside by the pier crying all night because I found out that he had gotten two girls pregnant … his friend basically told me, ‘everyone at TAO knew about this.’”

Roman ditched work after the breakup, and was subsequently fired in December 2022.

She began speaking out on TikTok and Instagram the following spring after someone came forward and said she had been assaulted by the ex, Roman told The Post.

“That’s when I started speaking out about all this stuff,” she said. “When I started posting about it, other people started coming forward. I started realizing that this was not just one girl.”

Roman claims the alleged harassment has only escalated since she began airing out TAO’s dirty laundry: she says she was jumped by her ex and his friends in March 2023 — causing her front tooth to break, a concussion and scar on her chin – and has received anonymous threats via social media conspiring to send her to jail.

Roman was arrested in June 2023 after her ex filed an order of protection – which she didn’t know about, she claimed.

The drama reached a fever pitch on June 19, 2023 when she was at Summer Club — a daylife venue frequented by TAO employees, she said – and her ex received a threat that he was going to be set on fire from a burner phone.

Roman maintains her innocence, noting that the outgoing call documented in police records lasted zero seconds and was a “canceled call.”

“Even if it were me who had called, nobody said anything on the phone because he didn’t pick up,” she said. “They knew that since the night of my arrest … and they still kept me on trial when they knew that I didn’t do it.”

That case was dismissed in December due to insufficient evidence, court records show.

The ex-hostess said she expects she’ll continue to see a pattern of false reports targeting her until she can afford a lawyer to prosecute in civil court.

“I cannot warn every single police officer in the city not to take a report … they just look at my record,” she said. “But I know that I’m just going to keep getting arrested.”
