How Jordan Belfort's 37m superyacht Nadine sank off the coast of Sardinia

Coco Chanel was famously outspoken on many things, but yachting, in particular, attracted her ire. “As soon as you set foot on a yacht you belong to some man, not to yourself, and you die of boredom,” she was once quoted as saying.

Her solution was to buy her own yacht. A 37m with a steel hull, built by the Dutch yard Witsen & Vis of Alkmaar. The yacht passed through many hands, finally ending up belonging to the Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort, on whose watch she foundered and sank in 1996.

The yacht was originally built for a Frenchman under the name Mathilde , but he backed out and she caught Chanel’s eye instead. With a narrow beam, a high bow and the long, low superstructure typical of Dutch yachts of her era, she was certainly a beautiful boat. But she was also well equipped, with five staterooms in dark teak panelling, magnificent dining facilities, room for big tenders and, later, a helipad. A frequent sight along the Florida coast, she caught the eye of a young skipper called Mark Elliott.

“In those days, she was the biggest yacht on the East Coast,” he remembers. “Nobody had ever seen anything like it. I needed a wrench once and went up to the boat - Captain Norm Dahl was really friendly.” He didn’t know it then, but Elliott was destined to become the skipper of the boat himself and was at the helm when the storm of the century took her to the bottom off Sardinia.

Coco Chanel died in 1971 and sometime thereafter the yacht was renamed Jan Pamela under the new ownership of Melvin Lane Powers. He was a flamboyant Houston real estate developer, fond of crocodile skin cowboy boots and acquitted of murder in a trial that gripped the nation.

Powers sent Jan Pamela to Merrill Stevens yard in Miami, where a mammoth seven-metre section was added amidships. “We made templates for the boat where we were going to cut her in half, then she went out for another charter season,” remembers Whit Kirtland, son of the yard owner. “When the boat came back in, we cut it just forward of the engine room, rolled the two sections apart and welded it in.”

He remembers how the sun’s heat made the bare and painted metal expand at different rates. “You had to weld during certain time periods – early in the morning or late at night,” says Kirtland.

The result of the extension was a huge new seven-metre full-beam master stateroom, an extra salon and one further cabin – pushing the charter capacity to seven staterooms. During this refit, the boat’s colour was also changed from white to taupe. “No one had really done it before and it was gorgeous,” says Elliott. By 1983, Powers was bankrupt and the yacht was sold on again. She next shows up named Edgewater .

Elliott’s chance came in 1989. He was working for the established yacht owner Bernie Little, who ran a hugely profitable distribution business for Bud brewer Anheuser-Busch. “Bernie Little had always wanted to own the boat,” Elliott says. “He loved it. He bought it sight unseen – and I started a huge restoration programme, including another extension to put three metres in the cockpit.”

It was a massive task, undertaken at Miami Ship. “We pulled out all the windows, re-chromed everything, repainted – brought it back to life,” says Elliott. They also cut out old twin diesels from GM and replaced them with bigger CAT engines, doubling her horsepower to 800. “Repowered, she could cruise at up to 20 knots. She was long and skinny, like a destroyer.”

A smart hydraulic feature was also brought to life for the first time. Under two of the sofas in the main stateroom were hidden 3.6m x 1.2m glass panels giving a view of the sea under the boat. At the push of a button, the sofas lifted up and mirrors above allowed you to gaze at the seabed – from the actual bed.

Now called Big Eagle , like all of Little’s boats, she was a charter hit and her top client was a certain New York financier named Jordan Belfort. He fell in love with her and begged Little to sell to him. But he needed to secure financing, and in 1995, Little agreed to hold a note on the boat for a year if Mark Elliott stayed on as skipper.

With the boat rechristened Nadine after his wife, Belfort set about another round of refit work, restyling the interior with vintage deco and lots of mirrors, extending the upper deck this time, and fitting a crane capable of raising and stowing the Turbine Seawind seaplane.

Nadine also carried a helicopter, a 10m Intrepid tender, two 6m dinghies on the bow, four motorbikes, six jetskis, state-of-the-art dive gear. “You pretty much needed an air traffic controller when all these things were in the water,” says Elliott.

Belfort’s partying was legendary and Elliott clearly saw eye-watering things on board, but as far as he was concerned, he was there to safeguard the boat. “When Jordan Belfort became the owner, he could do whatever he wanted. I was there to protect the note,” says Elliott. “He is a brilliant mind and a lovely person. It was just when he was in his party mode, he was out of control.”

Nadine and her huge cohort of toys and vehicles plied all the usual yachting haunts on both sides of the Atlantic. But Belfort’s love story was to be short-lived. Disaster struck with the boss and guests on board during an 85-mile crossing between Civitavecchia in Italy and Calle de Volpe on Sardinia.

What was forecast to be a 20-knot blow and moderate seas degenerated into a violent 70-knot storm with crests towering above 10.6m, according to Elliott. Wave after wave pounded the superstructure, stoving in hatches and windows so that water poured below and made the boat sluggish. By a miracle the engine room remained dry and they could maintain steerage way, motoring slowly through the black of the night as rescue attempt after rescue attempt was called off.

Nadine eventually sank at dawn in over 1000m of water just 20 miles from the coast of Sardinia. Everyone had been taken off by helicopter, and there was no loss of life. Captain Mark Elliott was roundly congratulated for his handling of the incident. “The insurance paid immediately because it was the storm of the century,” he says. “I took the whole crew but one with me to [Little’s next boat] Star Ship . That was my way to come back.”

Did Jordan Belfort really meet his future business partner in a restaurant?

Jordan, Nadine, Nancy and Danny

What was the name of Belfort's brokerage house?

The Wolf of Wall Street true story confirms that, like in the movie, Stratton Oakmont was the name of the real Jordan Belfort's Long Island, New York brokerage house. Belfort and co-founder Danny Porush (played by Jonah Hill in the movie) chose the name because it sounded prestigious ( NYTimes.com ). The firm would later be accused of manipulating the IPOs of at least 34 companies, including Steve Madden Ltd. (their biggest deal), Dualstar Technologies, Paramount Financial, D.V.I. Financial, M. H. Meyerson & Co., Czech Industries, M.V.S.I. Technology, Questron Technologies, and Etel Communications.

What exactly did Jordan Belfort do that was illegal?

Belfort's Stratton Oakmont brokerage firm ran a classic "pump and dump" operation. Belfort and several of his executives would buy up a particular company's stock and then have an army of brokers (following a script he had prepared) sell it to unsuspecting investors. This would cause the stock to rise, pretty much guaranteeing Belfort and his associates a substantial profit. Soon, the stock would fall back to reality, with the investors bearing a significant loss. -NYTimes.com

How many employees worked for Jordan Belfort's brokerage firm?

At its peak in the 1990s, Stratton Oakmont, Belfort's firm that he co-founded with Danny Porush, employed more than 1,000 brokers. -TheDailyBeast.com

Danny Porush says the movie's dwarf-tossing scene (above) never happened. Even Belfort's book only discusses it as a possibility. Did Jordan Belfort really host an in-office dwarf-tossing competition?

No. "We never abused [or threw] the midgets in the office; we were friendly to them," Danny Porush (the real Donnie Azoff) says. "There was no physical abuse." Porush does admit that the firm hired little people to attend at least one party. Jordan Belfort's memoir The Wolf of Wall Street only discusses the tossing of little people as a possibility, not something that actually happened. -MotherJones.com

During what years did the events in the movie take place?

The events in The Wolf of Wall Street movie took place during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Jordan Belfort and Danny Porush founded the brokerage firm of Stratton Oakmont in the late 1980s. The securities fraud and money laundering charges brought against the firm involved companies that Stratton Oakmont helped raise money for in public stock offerings from 1990 through 1997. In 1996, Stratton Oakmont was banned from the brokerage industry, which eventually forced the company to close its doors. -NYTimes.com

Was Jordan Belfort really known as the "wolf" of Wall Street?

No, at least not according to the former co-founder and president of the Stratton Oakmont brokerage firm, Danny Porush (portrayed by Jonah Hill in the movie). The real Porush says that he is not aware of anyone at the firm calling Jordan the "wolf." Porush says that it's just one of a number of exaggerations and inventions in both Belfort's book and the movie. -MotherJones.com

Is Matthew McConaughey's character, Mark Hanna, based on a real person?

Yes. In exploring The Wolf of Wall Street true story, we learned that Jordan Belfort claims to have met Matthew McConaughey's character's real-life counterpart, Mark Hanna, in 1987 when he was working at the old-money trading firm of L.F. Rothschild. His new acquaintance was an uproarious senior broker at the firm and introduced Belfort to the excess and debauchery that Belfort would later make a daily staple at Stratton Oakmont. Like in the movie, the real Mark Hanna behind McConaughey's character told Belfort that the key to success was masturbation, cocaine and hookers, in addition to making your customers reinvest their winnings so you can collect the commissions. -TheDailyBeast.com

Did Jordan Belfort really abuse cocaine and other drugs?

Yes. In The Wolf of Wall Street movie, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) is shown snorting cocaine off a prostitute's backside and nearly crashing his private helicopter while high on a cocktail of prescription drugs, including Quaaludes, morphine and Xanax. In researching The Wolf of Wall Street true story, it quickly became clear that Belfort used drugs heavily in real life too. In his memoir, he states that at times he had enough "running through my circulatory system to sedate Guatemala."

Jordan Belfort did give speeches like DiCaprio in the movie (left). Right: The real Belfort speaks at a 1994 Stratton Oakmont Christmas party (right). Did Belfort really stand in front of his employees and give riling speeches with a microphone?

Yes. Belfort was known to stir his troops into action by belting out words of motivation through a microphone. However, his speeches were often filled with more self-adulation than DiCaprio's speeches in the movie.

Did a female employee really let them shave her head for $10,000 to pay for breast implants?

The real Jordan Belfort claims this is true in his memoir. The female employee let them shave off her blonde hair for $10,000, which she used to pay for D-cup breast implants. Co-founder Danny Porush also says that the shaving took place, "...the worst we ever did was shave somebody's head and then pay 'em ten grand for it," says Porush. -MotherJones.com

Was Jordan Belfort's Quaalude dealer in the movie, Brad Bodnick (Jon Bernthal), based on a real person?

Yes. The character in the movie, Brad Bodnick, who has a goatee and is portrayed by The Walking Dead 's Jon Bernthal, is based on Jordan Belfort's real-life Quaalude supplier, Todd Garret. In his memoir, the real Jordan Belfort claims that Garret sold him approximately 10,000 Quaaludes.

Was there ever a chimpanzee in the office?

No. According to co-founder Danny Porush (played by Jonah Hill in the movie), the scene where Leonardo DiCaprio's character pals around with a chimp is pure monkey business. "There was never a chimpanzee in the office," says Porush. "There were no animals in the office...I would also never abuse an animal in any way" (though he does admit to eating the goldfish, see below). -MotherJones.com

Did he really almost crash his helicopter in his yard?

Jordan Belfort helicopter

Did Danny Porush really marry his own first cousin?

Yes. According to Jordan Belfort's memoir, the real Donnie Azoff (whose actual name is Danny Porush) did marry his first cousin Nancy "because she was a real piece of ass." After twelve years of marriage, the couple divorced in 1998 after Danny told Nancy that he was in love with another woman ( NYPost.com ). Danny and his ex-wife share three children together.

Did Belfort and his colleagues really have drug-addled nights and sexcapades with prostitutes on a near daily basis?

Though the movie and Belfort's memoir might seem like gross exaggerations of the truth, depicting heavy drug use and sexcapades in the office during trading hours, they're not exaggerations at all says the F.B.I. agent who finally took Belfort into custody, "I tracked this guy for ten years, and everything he wrote is true." Kyle Chandler portrays the agent in the Martin Scorsese movie. -NYTimes.com

Was Belfort really arrested for crashing his Lamborghini while high on expired Quaaludes?

Yes, but according to Belfort the car wasn't a Lamborghini like in the movie, it was a Mercedes. He was so high in a drug daze that he couldn't remember causing several different accidents as he tried to make his way home. In real life, one of the accidents was a head-on collision that actually sent a woman to the hospital. -TheDailyBeast.com

The real Donnie Azoff, Daniel Porush, says that he really did swallow a goldfish like Jonah Hill (pictured). Did Danny Porush really swallow a goldfish?

Yes. According to the real Donnie Azoff, whose actual name is Danny Porush, the scene where Jonah Hill's character eats a goldfish is based on a true story. "I said to one of the brokers, 'If you don't do more business, I'm gonna eat your goldfish!'" Porush recalls. "So I did." -MotherJones.com

Did they really tape money to a woman's body?

In one scene of The Wolf of Wall Street movie, bricks of cash are taped to a Swiss woman's body. "[I] never taped money to boobs," the real Danny Porush says (played by Jonah Hill in the movie). According to Jordan Belfort's memoir, the event did happen but his partner Porush wasn't there. -MotherJones.com

Was footwear mogul Steve Madden really involved in Belfort's scheme?

Yes. As shown in The Wolf of Wall Street movie, Steve Madden had been a childhood friend of Belfort's partner Danny Porush (renamed Donnie Azoff in the movie and portrayed by actor Jonah Hill). Their fondness for drugs and alcohol reunited the two of them. During the initial public offering of his footwear company, Steve Madden Ltd., Madden acquired a large number of shares of his company, which were actually being controlled by Belfort and his firm, Stratton Oakmont. Once shares became available to the public, Stratton Oakmont got down to the business of selling them to unsuspecting suckers. Billing Madden's company as the hottest issue on Wall Street, Belfort's brokers in turn drove up the price. Eventually, Steve Madden was to sell off his shares when the hype was at its peak, just before the stock began its inevitable decline. Similar to what is seen in the movie, Belfort still maintains that Steve Madden tried to steal his Steve Madden shares from him. However, Jordan Belfort did make approximately $23 million in two hours as part of the deal with Steve Madden, who would later be charged as an accomplice to Belfort's scheme. -NYTimes.com For his part, Steve Madden was sentenced to 41 months in prison and was forced to resign as CEO of Steve Madden Ltd. He also resigned from the company's board of directors. However, he did not leave the company entirely. He kept his foot (or shoe) in the door by giving himself the title of creative consultant, for which he was well-compensated even while he was in prison. -Slate.com

Did Jordan Belfort really name his yacht after his wife?

Jordan and Nadine movie and real life

Did Belfort's yacht really sink in a Mediterranean storm?

Yes. In real life, Belfort's 167-foot yacht, which was originally owned by Coco Chanel, sunk off the coast of Italy when Belfort, who was high on drugs at the time, insisted that the captain take the boat through a storm ( TheDailyBeast.com ). Listen to Belfort tell the story during The Room Live 's Jordan Belfort interview . As he states in the interview, his helicopter didn't fall off the boat during the storm like in the movie. Instead, they had to push the helicopter off of the top deck of the boat to make room for the rescue chopper to drop down an Italian Navy commando.

How long did FBI agent Gregory Coleman spend tracking Jordan Belfort and his firm?

FBI agent Gregory Coleman, renamed Patrick Denham for the film and portrayed by actor Kyle Chandler, made tracking Belfort and his firm, Stratton Oakmont, a top priority for six years. In an interview ( watch here ), Coleman says that the factors that drew his attention to the firm were "the flashiness, the brashness of their activities, the blatantness of the way they were soliciting people and cold calling people, and the number of victims that were complaining on a daily basis." -CNBC

Did Jordan really strike his wife?

Yes. The Wolf of Wall Street movie shows Jordan (Leonardo DiCaprio) hitting his wife (Margot Robbie) with his hand and fist. According to his memoir, he actually kicked his wife Nadine down the stairs while he was holding his daughter. She landed on her right side with "tremendous force."

Did Belfort really endanger his 3-year-old daughter's life by crashing his car through the garage door?

Yes. In real life, he put his daughter Chandler in the front seat of the car without a seat belt on, before crashing it through the garage door and then driving full speed into a six-foot-high limestone pillar at the edge of the driveway. Like in the movie, he was high at the time.

Tommy Chong was Jordan Belfort's cellmate in prison and encouraged him to write the book. What was Jordan Belfort's punishment?

When he was finally arrested in 1998 for money laundering and securities fraud, Jordan Belfort was sentenced to four years in prison. This was after agreeing to wear a wire and provide the FBI with information to help prosecute various friends and associates. In the end, the true story reveals that he served only 22 months in a California federal prison. His cellmate in prison was Tommy Chong of "Cheech and Chong" fame, who was serving a nine month sentence for selling bongs. -TheDailyBeast.com

What inspired Jordan Belfort to write his memoir?

It wasn't so much a what as it was a who. Tommy Chong (one half of "Cheech and Chong") was Jordan Belfort's cellmate in prison. After laughing at some of Belfort's stories from his days running the firm, Chong encouraged him to write a book. -TheDailyBeast.com

Why is Jordan Belfort's memoir filled with so many exclamations?

Jordan Belfort attempted to model his writing after Hunter S. Thompson ( Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ), who was known for using plenty of exclamation points.

What happened to Belfort's partner, Danny Porush, portrayed by Jonah Hill in the movie?

Danny Porush, renamed Donnie Azoff for the movie and played by actor Jonah Hill, served 39 months in prison for his part in the corrupt dealings of Stratton Oakmont, the firm that he co-founded with Jordan Belfort. Porush currently runs a medical supply business in Florida, where he lives with his second wife Lisa in a $4 million mansion. A 2008 Forbes article pointed out his company's fraudulent tactics, which included trying to persuade people to order diabetic supplies and getting them to provide information about their physicians that could be used to bill Medicare. A number of complaints surfaced accusing Porush's company of sending unsolicited packages that were accompanied by unexpected Medicare charges. Back in 2001, Porush was arrested in connection to a fraud scheme surrounding Noble & Perrault Collectibles, a company that sold commemorative coins over the phone. Victims saw their credit cards charged repeatedly, at times for thousands of dollars, while often never receiving any merchandise for purchases that were largely unauthorized to begin with. -Sun Sentinel Enjoying a well-to-do life in Florida, Daniel Porush and his wife drive matching Rolls-Royce Corniche convertibles. With regard to The Wolf of Wall Street movie, Porush said, "I really have no comment other than to say I would never try to profit from a crime I'm so remorseful for." -NYPost.com

How much did Jordan Belfort earn from his books and the movie?

Catching the Wolf of Wall Street includes more of Belfort's outrageous stories that were not included in his first book. As we investigated The Wolf of Wall Street true story, we discovered that Jordan's books, The Wolf of Wall Street and Catching the Wolf of Wall Street , netted him a $1 million advance from Random House. He also earned $1 million for the film rights to his story ( TheDailyBeast.com ). In a response to criticism over these profits and future profits from the movie, Jordan Belfort said the following via his Facebook page, "I am not turning over 50% of the profits of the books and the movie, which was what the government had wanted me to do. Instead, I insisted on turning over 100% of the profits of both books and the movie, which is to say, I am not making a single dime on any of this." According to Jordan, the money is being used to pay back the millions still owed to those who were scammed by his brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont.

Does Jordan Belfort have a cameo in The Wolf of Wall Street movie?

Yes, the real Jordan Belfort appears at the end of the movie as the person who introduces Leonardo DiCaprio's character before he takes the stage at his Straight Line seminar.

Have any other movies been based on Jordan Belfort's story?

Yes, but only loosely. The brokerage firm in the movie Boiler Room , released in 2000, was inspired by the illegal practices of Jordan Belfort's Stratton Oakmont firm. In the movie, actor Ben Affleck portrays Jim Young, the Belfort-esque co-founder of the firm, who, like Jordan Belfort, trains his brokers in the "pump and dump" scheme. -NYTimes.com

Jordan Belfort's real ex-wife shares what Margot Robbie scene Wolf of Wall Street actually got right

Nadine macaluso witnessed a lot during her time married to jordan belfort.

Emily Brown

The ex-wife of the real-life 'Wolf of Wall Street' has revealed one particular Margot Robbie scene that the hit movie accurately took from real life.

It's pretty hard to wrap your head around the fact that anything about The Wolf of Wall Street is based on real life - from the drugs , the money and the disasters, it's a pretty wild story.

The fact of the matter is, though, this is a pretty wild world, and the real Jordan Belfort went hard during his time at Stratton Oakmont.

Nadine Macaluso is Jordan Belfort's ex-wife.

While Leonardo DiCaprio portrays Belfort in the film, it's Robbie who plays his wife Naomi. In real life, Belfort's ex-wife is called Nadine Macaluso; a woman who was there to witness so many of Belfort's antics.

After watching the movie , Macaluso took to social media to share her side of the story about the accuracy of it and admitted that 'if you look at it through Jordan's lens it's really accurate'.

However, she continued: "I think that if you look at it through my lens it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was."

Now working as a therapist, Macaluso often gets asked whether the events depicted in Wolf of Wall Street are 'really true'.

She's explained that 'a lot of it wasn't exactly true', but there is one scene featuring Robbie which was 'totally true'.

Fans of the film will remember one moment in which Belfort splashes out and buys his wife a yacht on their wedding day - a gift which naturally shocks Robbie's character.

The yacht gets caught in a massive storm in the film.

Macaluso has previously revealed that her husband 'did not' actually buy a boat for their wedding day, and instead bought it after they welcomed their daughter, Chandler.

"I did not want to buy the yacht ironically," she said. "And he was like 'Nope, I'm buying a yacht and I'm calling it the Nadine'. And I was like 'Okay, here we go'."

So, the pair came to have a yacht, and it was after this that the events behind the 'real' scene took place - one in which Naomi, Jordan and his pals are caught in a ferocious storm while aboard the massive yacht and very nearly meet their death.

Explaining 'the boat scene was totally true', Macaluso shared real life footage of the moment they were saved by the Italian Navy after violent waves repeatedly struck the boat.

The incident took place in June 1996, but thankfully everyone on board was able to escape.

"It was horrific, horrifying, we were in a squall for 12 to 18 hours and we lived, thank god, for my kids," she said.

Margot Robbie Recalls Her Infamous Wolf Of Wall Street Scene And One Worry She Had About Filming With Leonardo DiCaprio

Thanks to Tarantino’s film within a film--The 14 Fists of McCluskey–we know Leo can pull off an eye patch.

Margot Robbie , the talented Australian-born actress, has made a major impact on Hollywood in the short amount of time that has elapsed since her breakthrough role in The Wolf of Wall Street alongside Leonardo DiCaprio . The film, directed by Martin Scorsese , received critical acclaim and showcased Robbie's acting prowess in a role that demanded sex appeal (which could explain the internet's obsession with her feet ) and fierce determination. As the movie approaches its tenth anniversary, Robbie recently shared her worries while shooting that infamous scene with DiCaprio.

In an interview with Vogue , Margot Robbie takes a look and breaks down some of her most iconic looks. Not only does she discuss her fashion choices, but she also reveals an intriguing Wall Street behind-the-scenes detail: she was worried she would “stab” DiCaprio with her heels while filming one of her most iconic scenes. Recalling filming the sequence, Robbie shared:

I remember being really worried that I was going to stab Leo in the face. My first scene in the movie I’m wearing this vintage Herve Leger bandage dress. For Naomi, for this character it’s like her sexuality was her currency in this world -- especially the effect she could have on Jordan was the way she could control and manipulate situations. So, what she wore was very much a part of that. Or what she didn’t wear.

The revelation is a surprise, considering the meticulous planning and execution involved in filming intense and physically demanding scenes. The actress clearly had no reservations about “giving it to” DiCaprio when it came to landing the role. Robbie admitted in the past that she impulsively slapped her costar during her audition. Luckily, the move impressed the actor and film director enough that she was ultimately hired. Though, I doubt the Titanic star would have been quite as impressed had he been stabbed in the eye with a pink pump!

The Wolf of Wall Street was a total game-changer for Robbie. It catapulted her into the spotlight and cemented her status as a Hollywood super-talent. Since then, she's rocked the silver screen with epic performances like Harley Quinn in DC movies like Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey . And let's not forget some of her absolute best flicks , like her Oscar-nominated performance in I, Tonya, and her fabulous turn in Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – a role she basically scored by just asking for it.

Margot Robbie in Barbie

Margot Robbie is set to hit the 2023 movie release schedule with her highly anticipated Barbie film, which she produced and stars as the titular doll wrapped in plastic. Though her feet are set to play a significant plot point in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie, unlike Leo, I highly doubt Ken will have to worry about any 'stabbing' incidents from Margot's stylish footwear.

Mark your calendars for November 23, when Barbie hits theaters. Robbie's star is only going to rise higher and higher. I, for one, absolutely can't wait to see what this talented woman has in store for us in the next chapter of her extraordinary career

10 Most Quotable Lines From Deadpool & Wolverine

10 superheroes who somehow haven't had a solo movie yet, 9 big mistakes that snuck into sam raimi's spider-man trilogy.

Before Margot Robbie got her big break on The Wolf of Wall Street , she was best known for her role in the Australian soap opera Neighbors . At the age of 21, she left her character and cast mates behind in search of something bigger in America, and she found it along with a believable Brooklyn accent and great wardrobe.

When Robbie auditioned for the role of Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street , she had a few things running through her mind. Robbie knew her character was going to be the mistress to Leonardo DiCaprio's character, and that was nerve wracking. She also took note that Naomi is meant to be more of a sex object rather than a loving mother or intelligent partner. While she was reading the script with DiCaprio next to her, Robbie made a bold choice to stand out to the directors. She slapped DiCaprio across the face—while in character, of course. She later told People that she felt like she had to do something to set herself apart from the others, and as we all know, she got the role.

Playing Naomi was a challenge for Robbie in more ways than one. Robbie wanted to truly become her character, and that meant becoming very vulnerable in front of the camera. She never imagined the fame that would follow after her performance, but because of it, she has joined a few other women in Hollywood as they change the game for women in the industry. In 2014, Robbie became a co-founder of LuckyChap Entertainment where she, her husband, and a couple others produce movies that highlight strong female characters. With The Wolf of Wall Street , Suicide Squad , and now Barbie under her belt, Robbie seems to be successfully making her way through the industry.

Here are Margot Robbie's best moments in The Wolf of Wall Street , ranked.

8 Opening Scenes in Underwear

When The Wolf of Wall Street first begins, DiCaprio's character, Jordan Belfort, is narrating while the camera pans over her different assets. He first talks about his most prized possession, his white Ferrari. Then he goes on to brag about his huge mansion. Finally, he draws attention to his beautiful wife, Naomi, who is a gorgeous blonde in lingerie. While different angles are splayed across the screen, Robbie exudes confidence as her character.

This scene becomes important because it shows that Naomi is self-assured and knows how to work her strengths with her husband, even if he only cares about her looks. While many may look at this opening scene and just see another pretty face, others can see that Robbie is ready to take the spotlight for the rest of the film.

7 Naomi Knows She Did Nothing Wrong

After Jordan has officially been found out, and he is looking at jail time, he tries to gaslight Naomi into thinking he got her out of trouble. In the bedroom, Jordan looks at Naomi and tells her that she is "off the hook," as if he took the blame for her. Instead of thanking her husband, she causally responds with, "I know that already." This surprises Jordan because he wanted to play the hero in The Wolf of Wall Street , but Naomi knows she was never involved in Jordan's business. Therefore, she did nothing to incriminate herself.

Robbie does a fantastic job at appearing uninterested in this turn-of-events conversation. She brings a certain energy to the scene to let the audience know that Naomi is done with the relationship before she tells Jordan she wants a divorce. Scenes such as this one can easily fall flat because there is no exaggerated facial expressions or dialogue. Robbie does not deliver a single boring moment in this film.

6 Mama Bear Mode

Raw and emotional do not begin to describe the moment Naomi went from screaming at her husband to full "mama bear mode" when Jordan attempts to kidnap his own child. During a fight, Jordan wakes his daughter up and rushes to put her in his car to prove to Naomi that she will not be taking his kids away from him in a divorce. Naomi screams at Jordan, and once she realizes she cannot get into his car, she takes a metal bar to the driver's side window. This still does not stop her husband from trying to peel out of the driveway (where he ends up crashing) with his screaming child. Naomi then runs to retrieve her frightened daughter, and she walks back into the house without a care in the world for her drugged-up husband.

Robbie's character takes a bit of a turn in this scene from The Wolf of Wall Street . Until now, she has been idolized as a trophy wife, but this moment finally gives her character depth. She released a blood-curdling scream and proves that she loves her children more than her lavish lifestyle.

5 Wake-Up Call with Water

Though The Wolf of Wall Street itself is humorous in the darkest and most repulsive ways, there are truly no likable characters. Jordan is sleazy, a cheater and an addict; all of his friends come with their own set of problems, and Naomi is Jordan's "wifed up" mistress who knew he had a wife while he was sleeping with her. When Naomi hears Jordan calling out for another woman in his sleep, fans aren't too surprised. Naomi, however, is appalled and wakes her husband up with a glass of water thrown in his face. Audiences cheered for this wake-up call, and she had every right to be upset — then again, what did she expect?

This scene stands out because it is the first fight between Naomi and her husband, but for Robbie to be able to throw water in the face of the infamous Leonardo DiCaprio probably felt amazing for her first big film.

4 Controlling the Conversation

While Naomi is the perfect example of eye candy, she is also incredibly smart when it comes to getting what she wants. After she and Jordan meet at his house during a large party, Jordan asks Naomi out to dinner. She mentions that the offer came as a surprise because he is a married man. Jordan then goes on to say that the two of them can still be friends. Without hesitation, Naomi responds with, "We're not gonna be friends." This single line in this moment in The Wolf of Wall Street gives her all the power. She has decided that she wants more from Jordan than friendship, and she is going to make sure she gets exactly what she wants.

DiCaprio may be the titular character of the film, and his character is obviously cunning. However, from this scene on, Robbie establishes that her character is dominant. Naomi is not savvy in the same way as Jordan, but she is a cut-throat woman who knows no bounds.

3 First Nude Scene with Leonardo DiCaprio

During a conversation with director Martin Scorsese , it was suggested to Robbie that she could leave a robe on rather than appear completely nude. Robbie, staying true to her character, simply said that the woman trying to sleep with Jordan Belfort would strip naked. She felt Naomi needed to give him that "shock factor" that left him speechless, and once again, put the power in her own hands.

Robbie's decision to shoot the scene completely nude for her co-stars, cast members, and audiences everywhere to see was not made lightly. She was not thinking "let me be naked with Leonardo DiCaprio." Robbie was strategic about staying true to the character, Naomi, but she also considered the real-life "Naomi" — because The Wolf of Wall Street is based on a true story — who had lived through these experiences with the real Jordan Belfort.

2 Teasing Her Husband with No More Sex

One of the most iconic scenes in The Wolf of Wall STreet is that of Robbie's character, Naomi, openly teasing her husband and touching herself in an attempt to show him what he will be missing for the foreseeable future. Naomi knows that her husband only loves her for her body, so she uses that to her advantage when he behaves in ways she deems unfit. Unfortunately, Jordan gets back at Naomi and lets her know that their security guards can see everything she is doing through the nursery's teddy bear camera. This sends Naomi running from the room.

Robbie once again had to put herself in a very vulnerable position, but she nailed the scene by keeping a calm tone and demeanor. She plays up her sexuality as Naomi and uses the typical male gaze scene to her advantage.

1 "Don't you f***ing Duchess me!"

During dinner, when the two are out on their first "friendly date," Jordan learns that Naomi was born in England, but she grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He then proceeds to call her the "Duchess of Bay Ridge." He sweetly calls her by this nickname quite often, but after the brutal wake-up call with a cup of water, Jordan doesn't know whether to appeal to his wife with sweet talk or to continue arguing with her. While she is heated and armed with a second cup, he calls her "Duchess" which earns him a finger in the face and her putting him in his place. Jordan immediately drops to his knees and pleads with her to believe him. She doesn't, and he gets drenched yet again.

Robbie had some of the best dialogue in The Wolf of Wall Street , and she used every bit of it to her advantage. One only hopes that DiCaprio did not take some of her insults and reprimands too literally even if it did feel very real on the screen.

Ice-Skating With The Wolf of Wall Street ’s Margot Robbie, Scorsese’s New Muse

margot robbie wolf of wall street yacht

“We’re gonna take some kids out.” Margot Robbie is concerned, and reasonably so: The ice-skating rink at Battery Park City on this December afternoon is teeming with small, wobbly children. It doesn’t help that our rentals are a size too big, or that I can barely skate. Robbie, who plays right wing in an amateur hockey league and is therefore more comfortable on the ice, circles back every few minutes to make sure I’m okay. “You can take me down with you,” she offers. Then she decides to do a “fast lap” and whizzes off like Apolo Ohno, camel coat flapping behind her. I look away for a second—which is apparently how long it takes for Robbie to do a face plant. She skates back toward me, arms raised in triumph. “Did you see?” She realizes I did not. “I can’t believe you missed it. I fell down, and you didn’t even see.”

Robbie’s wipeout, and pride thereof, should tell you something about her distaste for doing things halfway. Though if you’ve seen her performance as Naomi, the wily “Duchess of Bay Ridge,” second wife to the title character in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, this won’t come as news. You remember the scene: hot-pink mini-dress, legs wide open, camera positioned just so. “Mommy is just so sick and tired of wearing panties,” purrs Robbie, proceeding to demonstrate this point with such resolve that her howling husband (Leonardo DiCaprio)—the loudest man in a movie full of loud men—is reduced to a whimpering bystander. It’s Robbie’s Basic Instinct moment, give or take some flesh-colored underwear and a nanny cam. And it’s the scene that may turn a 23-year-old Australian actress with exactly one previous major film credit (Richard Curtis’s About Time ) and one canceled TV show ( Pan Am ) into a brand name.

Things have fallen into place quickly for Robbie, who didn’t start acting until her senior year of high school. She grew up on the Gold Coast with three siblings, two renegade cows (“They would run away and eat grass on literally everyone else’s property but ours”), and zero connections to the film business (“I’d never met anyone who had so much as delivered coffee to a set before”). Her first part came by chance when a friend asked her to keep company on the set of an amateur Australian thriller. “When I say amateur low-budget, I mean worse than a student film,” she says. Within six months—and with no thanks to her “dodgy” agent, who made Robbie call casting directors herself—the teenager landed a guest spot on the Australian soap Neighbours , then parlayed it into a regular role. “Then I realized, You do this as a job. You live off this. ” She found a new agent and practiced an American accent in her downtime. Five days after her Neighbours contract expired, Robbie moved to L.A. One month later, she had a TV show.

Robbie was still under contract on Pan Am, ABC’s 2011 drama about sixties flight-attendants-slash-spies, when the Wolf of Wall Street script—based on convicted financial scammer Jordan Belfort’s memoir of the same title—went out to every unknown actress in Hollywood. Robbie was initially uninterested. “I said, ‘If I was a dude, I’d wanna be in this, but I’ve got no interest in playing a gold-digger mistress.’ And my managers said, ‘Okay, Margot, that’s great, but it’s a Scorsese film. We’re obviously not expecting you to get this role.’ ” She made an audition tape, the filming of which was cut short by more pressing demands: seeing a Rangers playoff game. (About the hockey thing: “We don’t have ice hockey in Australia, but we did have The Mighty Ducks. ”) The whole notion was such a long shot that Robbie never even paused to worry about the role’s nudity requirement. “They’re like, ‘Why would she audition for a role that requires nudity if she doesn’t want to do nudity?’ And honestly, I never expected that this would go any further than an audition tape.”

margot robbie wolf of wall street yacht

In the end, it was Robbie who convinced Scorsese that she should parade around topless. “He was the one saying, ‘Technically, for this sex scene she could have kept her bra on.’ But the first thing Naomi would do is get naked. That’s how she’s gonna win the fight.” Robbie learned to appreciate the character’s competitive instincts. “She figured out the one power that she has, and she uses it over the douchebags of the world. She’s like a fucking badass.” Robbie also met with the real-life Naomi (actually named Nadine), who corrected a few assumptions the book had made. “I didn’t give a shit about him fucking hookers,” Nadine told Robbie. “He was a drug addict. No mother is going to let a drug addict be around her children.”

The film’s drugs and hookers—plus the financial misdoings, butt candle, and Scorsese’s stubborn refusal to judge or punish his characters—have caused some critics to wonder whether The Wolf of Wall Street endorses Belfort’s bad behavior. Robbie is not as worried. “You’re meant to be rooting for Jordan. You may still want him to go to jail and pay for what he did and learn his lesson and be a better person by the end of it. But you would hate for him to be truly hurt.” She knows what this means for her character, and she’s fine with it. “If I need to be painted as the bitch, paint me as the bitch, because you need to be on his side at the end of the day.”

As one might expect after a Scorsese film, Robbie quickly landed a leading role—in Focus, the upcoming romantic comedy starring Will Smith as a con artist and Robbie as his pickpocketing love interest. She discovered a new talent on the set: “I had to slow down my steals, because the camera couldn’t see them.” She’s also learning the downside of having a higher profile, as tabloids have romantically linked Robbie to her married co-star. She denied the reports on Twitter (“It’s disappointing that goofing around on set could be taken so out of context”), but when we meet, she’s understandably apprehensive about her new life. “It’s like wishing your whole life to move into a mansion, and then it comes to the day where you have to pack up the bedroom you grew up in, and then you don’t want to go anywhere. I haven’t got my head around that.”

But Robbie is the first to point out that she’s not quite there yet and that the competition is tougher at this level. “If someone’s gonna pick between me and Emma Stone, they’re gonna pick Emma Stone.” ( Focus was reportedly once envisioned as a Stone and Ryan Gosling vehicle.) “So I still have to work my ass off to convince them that they want to cast me over Emma Stone.” In the meantime, she’s just hoping for a role that puts her front and center, where all the fun happens. “I missed a lot of the crazy Wolf party scenes, and I was so upset. The guys were like, ‘You are so lucky, it was disgusting. There were naked bodies everywhere.’ But I wanted to see!”

Martin Scorsese was determined that “ The Wolf of Wall Street ” would have a sinking ship onscreen.

The blockbuster, Oscar-nominated 2013 film which starred Leonardo DiCaprio as real-life disgraced stockbroker Jordan Belfort, was originally a whopping four hours long. While the film was eventually trimmed down to 180 minutes, screenwriter Terence Winter revealed that Scorsese refused to cut an expensive yacht sequence.

“Because [the script] was so long, you know, the fear was there were going be things that we were gonna have to cut — like the sequence where the boat sinks and they get rescued at sea,” Winter told The Hollywood Reporter . “It was on the chopping block for the longest time because it was so wild and so expensive. To his credit, Marty just kept fighting and said, ‘We have to have that. I have to have that.'”

The scene involves Belfort (DiCaprio) and his wife Naomi ( Margot Robbie ) having to be rescued by helicopter when sailing from Italy to Monaco in a desperate attempt to stop federal investigators from accessing bank accounts.

“There was actually a four-hour cut of that movie initially and it was just a lot more insanity — if you can believe there was room for any,” Emmy winner Winter continued. “But I was absolutely thrilled that everything got in there. Every possible thing… including the kitchen sink… is in that movie. I could not have been more happy with it.”

Acclaimed editor and longtime Scorsese collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker previously told IndieWire that the four-hour cut is beloved by those who had seen it, and Scorsese even considered releasing it in two parts. “Well, we thought about it,” Schoonmaker said. “But the film doesn’t work split in half. It has to have a certain arc.”

Actress Robbie recently revealed that the overnight success of “The Wolf of Wall Street” was overwhelming at times, saying, “Something was happening in those early stages and it was all pretty awful. I remember saying to my mom, ‘I don’t think I want to do this.’ And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’ That’s when I realized the only way was forward.”

  • Genre: Comedy, Biography, Crime
  • Running Time: 180 minutes

Rated R for sequences of strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language throughout, and for some violence.

With: Leonardo DiCaprio , Jonah Hill , Margot Robbie , Matthew McConaughey , Kyle Chandler

Several times during The Wolf of Wall Street , the wolf himself turns to the camera and offers to explain some stockbroker term or strategy. But then he stops himself and says it doesn't really matter. It sure doesn't — not in this exuberant but profitless bad-behavior romp. It's based on the career of former penny-stock magnate Jordan Belfort, but might as well be about Keith Richards in the '70s or Robert Downey Jr. in the '90s.

"I love drugs," announces Belfort early in the movie, which proceeds to demonstrate this passion so often that susceptible viewers may experience a contact high. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Belfort, in his fifth and most dominating collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. There are hundreds of others — the broker also loves sex, and you can't have orgy scenes without lots of bodies — but DiCaprio's broad swagger and Scorsese's narrow focus reduce most of the other performances to cameos.

The principal exceptions are a scary Jonah Hill as Donnie, Belfort's nebbishy and utterly venal lieutenant, and a feisty Margot Robbie as Naomi, the financier's sexy (and frequently undressed) second wife. Few of the others really register, save for Matthew McConaughey as Belfort's chest-thumping Wall Street role model and The Artist 's Jean Dujardin as a frozen-grinned Swiss banker so avaricious he's prepared to deal with — shudder — Americans. The saga really begins in 1987, when Belfort, then a fledgling Wall Streeter, is forced to reinvent himself after the Black Monday crash. He sets up in a crummy Long Island boiler room, touting cheap stocks to people who can't afford even those low-rent investments. What he's selling is the promise of future wealth; what he's keeping is the real money of steady commissions. Belfort gets rich, then richer. He drinks, snorts cocaine and indulges a special fondness for Quaaludes. The camerawork and the editing, however, are adrenalized in Scorsese's usual manner. The movie barrels through time and space, boosted by punky songs whose titles say it all: "One Step Beyond," "Never Say Never," "Uncontrollable Urge." Yet the zooming visuals don't propel the story to any place in particular. Sure, an FBI agent (Kyle Chandler) is nosing around, and Naomi eventually rebels against her husband's thing for other women, mostly hookers. But Belfort's character, such as it is, remains unchanged. Various Cheech-and-Chong-style slapstick scenarios play out repeatedly, just with different props. The perpetually buzzed Belfort variously trashes a helicopter, a sports car and a yacht, and he rolls down a set of stairs in a 'luded daze. His 1998 bust feels as much like an intervention as an arrest. For all its outrageousness, though, the movie seems overfamiliar, and not just because DiCaprio played a self-inventing Long Island plutocrat and party boy earlier this year, in The Great Gatsby .

Scorsese, too, is on oft-trod turf: The director has recently specialized in larger-than-life protagonists within tiny tales, a formula he continues here. If the use of competing voiceovers and other flashy storytelling gambits isn't as awkward as in the Scorsese-aping American Hustle , it's only because Wolf's essential narrative is much simpler. It didn't have to be. Terence Winter, a veteran of The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire who based his script on Belfort's memoir, could have allowed the broker to talk high finance as well as high times. Instead, the filmmakers merely mirror Belfort's excess, spending three hours — and a reported $100 million — chiefly to have some nasty fun. Rather than digging into investment-market manipulations, The Wolf of Wall Street just surfs the wave of corruption, digging the view from up there.

Nadine Macaluso has spilt the truth about the accuracy of Martin Scorsese ’s 2013 film, The Wolf of Wall Street .

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie as former real-life couple Jordan Belfort and Maculoso, the dramedy blockbuster follows the success and downfall of Belfort’s brokerage firm, which he built by scamming millionaires.

Based on Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name, the film remains fairly accurate to its source material. However, according to Macaluso – priorly Nadine Caridi – she would disagree with the movie’s portrayal of her “love life that was a Greek tragedy”.

“If you look at it through Jordan’s lens, it was really accurate. And I think that if you look at it through my lens, it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was,” Macaluso said in a TikTok video.

“However, I went to therapy, I became a therapist, actually got my PhD and became an expert in relational trauma, and so I am able to discern his truth, my truth and everything in between.”

Margot Robbie left ‘mortified’ by Barbie photos leak: ‘Most humiliating moment of my life’

In a series of subsequent videos, Macaluso shared her perspective on specific scenes from the film and whether they were truthful or not.

“A lot of it wasn’t exactly true, but the boat scene was totally true,” she said, referencing the moment in the movie when Belfort’s yacht sunk and they were all rescued by the Italian Navy.

“It was horrific, horrifying. We were in a squall for 12 to 18 hours, and we lived,” Macaluso recalled.

She added that the film’s depiction of how she met Belfort was “pretty similar” to reality and confirmed that the scene of Robbie on the phone surrounded by a room full of flowers was truthful.

“I actually came home to an 800-square-foot apartment with 1,400 sq feet of flowers,” she said.

Later, she described meeting with Robbie so that the Australian actor could nail down Macaluso’s thick Brooklyn accent.

“I met with Margot and her speech coach in the lobby of my hotel, they taped me, and then I took her to dinner,” she remembered.

“[Robbie] was 22, she was adorable, she was so sweet. And in the middle of dinner, she said to me, ‘I’m really scared about being naked and all the sex scenes,’” Macaluso continued.

“And I said, ‘That’s it. Right there. That fear that you feel about speaking your truth to powerful men, embody that, and you’ll do a great job. And you know what? She did. She was fantastic.”

Macaluso and Belfort got married in 1991 and divorced in 2005. They share two children, Chandler and Carter.

Now remarried, Macaluso works as a licensed therapist for trauma bonding and uses her personal experiences to educate others.

Margot Robbie’s Big Break Was Anything but a Walk in the Park Behind the Scenes

The Big Picture

  • Margot Robbie's improvisation during her audition for The Wolf of Wall Street, where she slapped Leonardo DiCaprio, secured her the role.
  • Robbie's experience filming The Wolf of Wall Street was intimidating, as a newcomer working with renowned filmmakers, but she embraced the challenges.
  • Robbie co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment to promote and support female-driven films and television shows, showcasing her commitment to empowering women in the industry.

Over ten years after the film's release, the epic, raunchy biopic The Wolf of Wall Street is still a pop culture staple. Widely remembered for its graphic content , Leonardo DiCaprio 's larger-than-life performance, and Martin Scorsese 's bold direction, the film nabbed five Oscar nominations and quickly became its director's highest-grossing film to date. A wild cinematic ride by any standard, The Wolf of Wall Street is also remembered for introducing the world to Margot Robbie , who, of course, would later go on to produce and star in the $1 billion-plus grossing Barbie .

A decade after her big break, the Australian native has become a household name. Having segued into producing , receiving three Oscar nominations, and consistently working alongside A-list filmmakers, Robbie is undoubtedly one of the most prolific, acclaimed, and in-demand actors of her generation. While there are no signs of that stopping anytime soon, the experience of making The Wolf of Wall Street proved a challenge for the actress , and she's never been shy about expressing the difficulties of navigating fame and success in subsequent years.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

Margot Robbie Slapped Leonardo DiCaprio To Get Cast in 'The Wolf of Wall Street'

By 2012, Margot Robbie had just a handful of acting credits to her name. Having appeared in a few films and television shows, including a three-year run on the Australian soap opera Neighbours , she was certainly rising through the entertainment ranks but hadn't yet broken through to the mainstream . Upon learning that casting was underway for the next collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, Robbie landed an audition for Naomi , the wife of DiCaprio's corrupt broker Jordan Belfort .

Battling nerves as she played out a scene with DiCaprio in front of Scorsese, the actress employed a bold bit of improvisation. Rather than simply argue with her future co-star, as was called for in the script, Robbie went one step further and unexpectedly slapped DiCaprio across the face . She later said of the decision , "I hit him in the face. And then I scream, 'Fuck you!' And that's not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze." Though she later confessed she thought the ad-lib had cost her the role, she was rewarded for her decision. Scorsese remembers , "She clinched her part in The Wolf of Wall Street during our first meeting — by hauling off and giving Leonardo DiCaprio a thunderclap of a slap on the face, an improvisation that stunned us all."

Margot Robbie Was Extremely Nervous About Filming 'The Wolf of Wall Street'

With a budget of $100 million, cameras rolled on The Wolf of Wall Street in August 2012. Aged 22 and with only three film credits to her name, one can assume Margot Robbie's experience of working alongside cinematic powerhouses like Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese must've come with a certain amount of intimidation. The actress has been on record about feelings of trepidation and self-doubt during production , wondering if she'd be sidelined as a relative newcomer to the big screen. In 2017, she revealed to Wonderland Magazine , "When I was playing Naomi in The Wolf of Wolf Street , it was so high-tempo sexy. I was acutely aware that the line in the screenplay was ‘the hottest blonde ever.' I was just terrified that people would see the movie and think, ‘Eugh! She’s not that great.'"

One particularly revealing scene had the future star on edge. It's not every day that a performer is asked to so vulnerably bare herself on a Hollywood film set, much less alongside one of the world's biggest stars and most renowned filmmakers. Robbie apparently refused Scorsese's offer to "dilute" the nudity of the scene for her comfort, and she appears fully nude in the film. Regarding Naomi's nature, Robbie told The Telegraph , "Her body is her only form of currency in this world. So when Marty was trying to help me out, and said in the scene where she seduces Jordan perhaps I could have a robe on, I said she wouldn't. She has to be naked." To help settle her understandable nerves over performing such a scene, she revealed, "I had a couple of shots of tequila before that scene because I was nervous - very, very nervous."

Margot Robbie Wasn’t the Original Choice for Barbie

Hi Barbie(s)!

Hitting theaters on Christmas Day 2013, The Wolf of Wall Street was met with a largely positive reception and box office success. Amid the film's success, Margot Robbie found herself swept into the whirlwind of international fame and acclaim. But as is all too common when suddenly thrust into the global spotlight, the newfound celebrity had a negative effect on the actress, even pushing her to the point of reconsidering her career aspirations . Leading up to the release of 2022's Babylon , Robbie told Vanity Fair , " Something was happening in those early stages, and it was all pretty awful, and I remember saying to my mom, ‘I don’t think I want to do this.’ And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’"

As a Producer, Margot Robbie Helps Promote Female Storytellers

But despite the inherent difficulties of navigating white-hot fame and acclaim, Margot Robbie has more than found her footing in the industry . In 2014, she co-founded LuckyChap Entertainment , a Los Angeles-based production company with a focus on supporting female-driven film and television. Robbie has said of the intention behind the company , "We wanted to expand what female stories and female storytellers could do in this industry, and I don't need to be on-screen for that to happen."

Along with partners Tom Ackerley (who's also Robbie's husband), Josey McNamara , and Sophia Kerr , LuckyChap has been involved in the production of several films. The wide variety of movies include I, Tonya , Birds of Prey , Promising Young Woman , the hugely successful Barbie , and the more recent — and far more unsettling — Saltburn . The company has also dipped its toes into television by producing Dollface , Maid , and Mike . Having firmly established herself as an undeniable force to be reckoned with, Margot Robbie seems to be just getting started . As one of the premier performers and creative personalities of her generation, one can only wonder with great anticipation what lies ahead for the actress and producer.

The Wolf of Wall Street is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.

Margot rarely speaks about her marriage to Tom. The couple have been married since 2016 after first meeting in 2013 on set of World War II drama Suite Française in France.

The pair went on to become roommates with a group of other friends and lived together in a property in London.

In an interview with Elle in 2018, blonde beauty Margot admitted that she and Tom had initially decided to keep their romantic relationship to themselves. She said: 'We kept it a secret. Because we weren't really taking it seriously. 'Oh, whatever, we're just mates, we're just mates.' And then… everyone found out.'

On her friends finding out, she recalled: 'It was dramatic. I'm not going into the details, but s**t hit the fan. Our house turned into The Jerry Springer Show for a moment there. But then the dust settled, and it was all good.'

Margot was paid a whopping USD$ 12.5million to star in the Barbie film,  reported.

Robbie's latest earnings exceeds her reported $10million salary for her latest blockbuster, Birds Of Prey in 2020.

Margot's co-star Ryan Gosling reportedly pocketed the same salary as his Barbie movie counterpart, with the pair ranking equal 16th on Variety's newest list of Hollywood's top earners.

Barbie, based on the eponymous Mattel doll line, stars Margot as Barbie and Ryan as her longtime love interest Ken.

Margot has long been attached to play Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different to what people are expecting.

She said: 'Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, 'Oh Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is', but our goal is to be like, 'Whatever you're thinking, we're going to give you something totally different – the thing you didn't know you wanted.''

The Neighbours star is hoping to provoke 'thoughtful conversation' with the film.
