For some of us, the word “virus” may now conjure up negative feelings. For this team of designers, though, those five letters sparked one bold superyacht concept .

“In conceiving Virus, we decided to move away from the common practice of outsourcing the exterior of the yacht to one design firm and the interior to another,” Igor Shmakov, manager of Jonacor Marine, said in a statement. “We decided to entrust the entire design to Brizo, who fully realized our vision.”

The 108-footer sports a sturdy steel hull, a prominent pointed bow and a lightweight aluminum superstructure. To the aft, three decks cascade down toward a swim platform with enough space for a tender. Forward, meanwhile, the foredeck sports a lounge for alfresco entertaining.

Although there are no images of the interior as of yet, the designers say the living quarters offer guests maximum privacy and plenty of space to kick back and relax. Oddly, it sounds as if Virus would be a great place to isolate away from the rest of the world.

As its moniker suggests, Virus has the ability to travel (spread?) across the high seas with ease. She can be equipped with twin Scania HD V8 DI16 diesel engines that promise a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 3,000 nautical miles when traveling at a cruising speed of 12 knots. The vessel could also be fitted with a hybrid-propulsion system for the more eco-conscious seafarers or engines from other brands.

Jonacor Marine says the yacht will take approximately two years to complete and will set you back $12.4 million (€12 million). Perhaps it’s time to reclaim the word “virus.”

Brizo Yachts an exclusive masterpiece of engineering

Customers all over the world appreciate the excellent accuracy of Finnish motor boats. And this is not surprising, because the shipyard uses innovative equipment for cutting and welding metals. 40 years of experience

The story begins in Porvoo, located nearby the Baltic Sea. At first there was only a metal industry company, Magnusson & Stoor, founded in 1979, which, however, started manufacturing boats very soon.

The first boat was already produced in the early 1980s and location close to the sea brought a lot of demand as a builder of work and pleasure boats made of aluminium.

This laid the foundation for Brizo Yachts today. Our history is based on solid know-how and long-term experience in metal expertise and metalwork for shipping.

Passionate precision from design to implementation

The founder of Brizo Yachts, Johnny Stoor, comes from a family of sailors, and boating has been present in his life since he was a child. Growing up on the coast and in the archipelago has made him familiar with the rugged waves and diverse conditions of the Baltic Sea.

Johnny had worked in the Magnusson & Stoors company founded by his father since he was a young boy and learned directly from the masters. The idea of his own boat collection slowly matured, and in 2011 it was time to take a step towards his own dream, and the first Brizo Yachts boat was completed the same year.

Johnny's passion is to create unique, well-equipped, durable and seaworthy yachts according to the customer's wishes, customized and finished down to the smallest detail. He enjoys designing and creating, problem solving and challenges, and is known for his accuracy and meticulousness throughout the process. The most rewarding thing for him is when the boat is finished and the customer is satisfied. After all, that's the main thing.

Sixteen dead, 28 missing after boat capsizes off Djibouti coast - U.N. agency

N AIROBI (Reuters) -Sixteen would-be migrants have died and another 28 are missing after a boat carrying 77 people capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the second such incident in two weeks, the United Nations migration agency said on Tuesday.

The boat's occupants included children, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a post on social media platform X.

It said its Djiboutian office was helping with rescue efforts.

Two weeks ago, at least 38 people, including children, died in another shipwreck off the Djibouti coast.

At least 21 migrants dead after boat capsizes off coast of Djibouti

Children among those killed in second fatal incident in two weeks close to the Horn of Africa, says UN agency

At least 21 people have died after a boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti , the UN’s migration agency has said.

It was the second fatal maritime accident in two weeks off the Horn of Africa nation, which lies on the perilous so-called eastern migration route from Africa to the Middle East.

Another vessel carrying mainly Ethiopian migrants sank in the same area on 8 April, claiming the lives of several dozen people.

Tanja Pacifico, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) chief of mission in Djibouti, told AFP in Nairobi that 21 bodies had been recovered, while 23 people were still missing.

Another 33 people survived the disaster, she said late on Tuesday.

“Tragedy as boat capsizes off Djibouti coast with 77 migrants on board including children,” the IOM had said in an earlier post on X, giving a toll of at least 16 dead and 28 missing.

It said the Djibouti IOM branch was “supporting local authorities with search and rescue effort”.

Yvonne Ndege, a spokesperson for the agency, told AFP the fatalities included children and a baby, without offering further details.

Berhanu Tsegaye, Ethiopia’s ambassador to Djibouti, said on X that the vessel was carrying Ethiopian migrants from Yemen when it went down on Monday night off Godoria in north-eastern Djibouti. He said 33 people, including one woman, survived.

Berhanu expressed his “deep sorrow ... over the succession of horrific disasters”, adding: “I reiterate that legal measures should be taken against illegal human smugglers who put the lives of our citizens at risk.”

Another vessel carrying more than 60 people sank off the coast of Godoria on 8 April, according to the IOM and the Ethiopian embassy in Djibouti.

The IOM said at the time that the bodies of 38 migrants, including children, were recovered, while another six people were missing.

The Ethiopian embassy had said the boat was carrying Ethiopian migrants from Djibouti to war-torn Yemen.
