J/46 may be the only investment grade sailing yacht of its size not requiring professional crew to sail at designed performance levels…..or to maintain. Two people can easily manage her upwind and down to achieve the same 8 knot passage-making speeds under sail that is possible when motoring with 76hp diesel auxiliary. 1985 PT Motoryacht 36' Trawler. We began a full restoration and it is about finished but we don't have the time to use the boat so decided to sell. It has twin Lehman turbo diesel engines that run great, Westerbeke generator that was just completely rebuilt and has less than 2 hours. Main A/C unit was just replaced last month and the Rear unit serviced. Boat had a full exterior repaint, all new upholstery in and out, New bimini tops that are not pictured, all new deck surfacing and handrail refinish. There are no navigation electronics, We did install and new garmin transducer for future upgrades. It does a VHF dual station radio and all antennas. There is a nice stereo system with extra control on the fly bridge. Ther are a few small things that are not complete such as reinstalling the horns, bimini tops, reconnecting the windlass etc. She has a full galley with cooktop stove, sink and dual voltage refrigerator with top freezer. Layout is a front guest stateroom with V birth, half Bath in the bow, mail Salon had full helm, j shape seating and a bar overlooking the Galley. 1995 Albin TE28 Convertible, This 1995 Albin TE28 / Convertible has been as close to our perfect boat we could find. This boat has been a joy to own. Mechanically the boat is in very good condition and has always been maintained by qualified mechanics. Cosmetically it could use a good cleaning as I have not had much time this season. This convertible model is one of 15 or so produced from 1993 to 2005. The convertible is considered a rare find given that around 1000 total 28s were built. The convertible has a large radically-raked, welded aluminium American Marine tempered safety-glass windshield and a TIG-welded aluminium radar arch. (Compliments of J & J Fabrications) Visibility is virtually unobstructed. This is a well built, well planned, stylish vessel. She is well equipped and has lots of room for weekends with the family. She has a bimini and full canvas enclosure for boating in inclement weather. We generally boat from March until November and have spent many hours cruising the Chesapeake, in all kinds of weather, and have never felt unsafe. We have spent many nights on the hook and in marinas. The Albin is a comfortable weekender, a great fishing platform, and perfect cruiser. We do have a cockpit bimini that we have never used. Canvas is sand color. All other canvas is black. The black hullsides were wet sanded a few years ago and are still holding up well. Boat is located in Norwalk, Connecticut.

Original owners who, very sadly, can no longer sail our well-loved boat.

She was mostly raced, (and often won) but rarely cruised.

MANY running rigging upgrades.

Rod rigging has been well-maintained.

Much of the electrical wiring has been replaced.

Hull was Awlgripped in 1997.

Edson pedestal and steering wheel with custom cover.

Fully finished interior with holly and teak flooring that was replaced in 1997.

We have dry-stored the v-berth frames and cushions since they were removed for racing purposes.Several sails including a relatively new Bainbridge kevlar- carbon fiber racing mainsail.

Regularly maintained 2000 Yanmar 3GM30F engine with only 600 hours on it!!

New raw water mixer on exhaust manifold.

New propeller shaft.

Stuffing box and shaft coupling were replaced in 2000.

Edson lower rudder bearing and Jeffa upper rudder bearing.

Ready for her next adventure!

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
• LOA: Length overall in feet
• Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
