Allures 51.9

The ALLURES 51.9 making waves

Minimal Logo

We find out as we test their flagship model, the Allures 51.9, on a blustery day in Cherbourg, France.

The Allures sailboats, also this Allures 51.9, are designed and constructed in the same French shipyard as Garcia, so you appreciate the incredible craftsmanship and pedigree of blue water cruisers going into the range of Allures yachts. From the beginning, it retains Allures’ niche of using aluminium hulls with glass fibre decks and superstructures, which, the yard maintains, gives the optimum combination of low maintenance and less weight higher up. Priorities for this design were a full beam aft cabin and a spacious, long cockpit. At 7m long, the latter offers formidable social, sailing and aft deck zones. The range consists of 2 models, 45.9 and 51.9 (from 45 to 51 feet), intended for adventurous sailors looking for a reliable, safe, comfortable and easy-to-handle blue water sailboat singlehanded or with a reduced crew.

With a glut of 50ft yachts launched this year, there’s something for everyone – as long as you want and can afford a 50-something foot yacht. If you’re after a go-anywhere cruiser, the Allures 51.9 firmly ticks that box, but just because she can sail across oceans doesn’t mean she’s any less of a coastal cruiser.

The grey aluminium hull might not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s insanely beneficial; it won’t crack or craze, it doesn’t fade or need polishing, or like most owners nowadays, you can have an excellent colourful wrap as this particular 51.9 has.

I don’t have anything against fixed keels, but there are times when I wish they weren’t so deep or so fixed. The centreboard makes a host of harbours and anchorages more accessible to this boat than to many smaller yachts. She’s also a comfortable yacht to live on board. What’s not to love about her? Surprisingly little.

Allures 51.9

Great conditions

The day started well with 18-22 KTS of wind; as far as I’m concerned, perfect sailing weather . We had 1-1.5 metres of swell as the tide changed with 2KTS of tidal flow. This particular Allures 51.9 had just been put in the water two days ago, so we had a team of carpenters, mechanical and electrical engineers on board, plus a skipper to test all the systems as the long but thorough process of getting this Allures 51.9 ready for the owner. You would have thought the boat would be a little crowded, but there was plenty of space for everyone, down to the intelligent way Allures designed the cockpit area or, as the team kept referring to it, the three cockpit zones.

In lighter conditions, she won’t win many prizes for speed and agility without extra sails, but as cruisers go, she’s excellent. We set full mainsail and genoa, and she came into her own as the wind increased.

She has a long skeg, which protects the prop and gives her good directional stability. Her centreboard can reduce her draught from 3.1m to 1.34m; with the board fully down, she wasn’t particularly high-winded, feeling most comfortable around 35-38° off the wind close hauled.

On a fetch, she makes good speed, and as the wind increased to 18-22 knots AWS, she was soon charging along in excess of 8.5 knots which by any means is a result as she is not a light boat weighing in at 18.4T and around 22T fully loaded.

Allures 51.9 esterni

Allures 51.9 Deck Layout

The cockpit is one of the best I have seen and worked in, with three decisive zones; Zone 1 aft, you have a voluminous sun deck and colossal storage lazaret, with room for bikes, paddle boards, dive tanks, outboard motor and so on. Both to port and starboard, there are two more lockers (and access to steering) and extra storage. This locker also is part of your 1st and 2nd water-tight bulkheads ensuring high levels of safety. Like most yachts, there is a sizeable drop-down transom (bathing platform), giving excellent access to the water.

Zone 2 is where the magic happens; twin helm stations and all the working multi-speed self-tailing winches are located. On both pedestals, you have the options of chart plotters, autopilot, electronic engine controls, bow and stern thruster, multi-repeaters VHF, light switches, and the list goes on. All the sheets for the sails and fullers, reefing line, etc., are brought back to this area with plenty of tail bins by the primary and secondary winches to keep your workspace tidy and clear. This area is a skipper’s dream.

Zone 3 , guest and relaxation area, here you will find ample seating for 8 to 10 people sizeable split cockpit table, you have a clear walkway through the entire cockpit, but the table wings fold up to provide a generous table for you and your guests easily seating 8 for those all essential sundowners. This is a very well-protected area, and this particular owner had chosen to have the hardtop option installed, which I can tell you, with the chilly spring northerly wind we had on test day, was extremely welcome as I was agreeably cocooned here, warming up as the engineers were running through the systems. The Allures 51.9 comes with the mainsheet arch as standard and a spray hood, but the hardtop option for extended cruising is well worth your sanity for those colder climates. Moving forward on this 17M yacht is straightforward with inboard and outboard shrowds and a wide walkway, high guard rails, and hand holds/ rails everywhere. The foredeck is huge with flush hatches, so there are no trip hazards giving you easy access to the chain and sail locker. There is a handy ladder for you to descend into the depths of this locker if need be. I felt safe and navigated this boat with ease. The Allures 51.9 is equipt with 30kg spade ancker and 80m of 12mm chain.

Allures 51.9 ext 1

Allures 51.9 Rig & Sailplan

This yacht had a large genoa forward a gib and the possibility for an inner staysail – helpful when cross-tacking or with winds over 25 knots TWS; the mast has extra support from running backstays while it’s in use. The genoa can be tacked without furling by experienced sailers, but to make the operation smooth, I found it much easier to furl and unfurl the sail as you might get into a bit of trouble otherwise. With fewer crew, furling most of it before tacking is the better option. The fixed bowsprit can take a code zero, jeneca as we had on the day of testing or furling asymmetric to increase the off-wind sail area.

Accommodation

Stepping down the five companionway steps, you are greeted by what can only be described as an outstandingly modern, clean-lined interior. Large, bright windows open up this luxury living space . This makes her bright and contemporary while retaining traditional values like a functional living space with plenty of valuable handholds everywhere. The layout sees the main saloon offset to starboard with L-shaped seating outboard and a long drop-down table that can be converted into a large double berth (day bed). The table can easily seat 6 to 8 people with the help of two puff-style chairs ( which also give you access to the centre board mechanism. The choice of materials is rich and varied depending on your preference. There’s good stowage under the seats but less outboard due to the hull’s foam insulation (65mm). However, this is less important as the general storage around this Allures 51.9 is generous, as you will see, especially in the technical area. To port, you have a chaise long-style seat adjoining to the chart table and, further forward, a designated chart table chair. This is your command station, come home-office space, which I love having a workspace and chart table in one as an online blogger and YOUTUBER. It tics all the right boxes for me. The swivel chair helps you stay connected with everyone on the boat, whether at the helm, in the galley or salon, making it both practical and social. Here you have the option of another chart plotter, multi-function display, VHF radion, fusion stereo and your onboard digital display for your electrical and fuel systems, to mention a few. A command station gives you that extra peace of mind to check on your systems or work comfortably while on passage or at anchor.

Looking aft, you step down from the saloon to the port side and enter the galley, if you can call it that. It is almost better equipt than my kitchen at home. This galley is designed to be used in any sea condition yet gives you all the mod-cons we demand today: dual stainless fridges, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine, and storage; you can fit every kitchen tool and appliance invented. The galley has a standard four-burner gas hob, but you can upgrade to induction. As you have plenty of space on this 17-metre (51ft) yacht for solar, it would be a worthwhile option to tick. Fresh water is not a problem, as the watermaker can fill the 620L water tank within an hour or two. The amount of light entering this boat really does show off the modern light oak interior; small details can be missed at first glance, like the band of polished aluminium set into the cabinets and woodwork around the boat; the handholds are covered in light grey hand-stitched leather.

Allures 51.9 1

The VIP cabin of Allures 51.9

Moving forward, you have a twin bunk cabin on the starboard side; both bunks are larger than a standard single and equipped with their own reading lights and fans. This small cabin has its own opening hatch for ventilation. An excellent space for your kids or additional crew if you want. There is some storage in here, but it could be better. Just across the passageway, you will find the heads and separate shower, as expected on a sailboat this size. This bathroom can be used as the day heads, shared with the two forward cabins or with the second door used exclusively as the VIP on sweet heads for extra privacy. Electric fresh or salt water flush for the heads and plenty of stowage for all your gubbins. There is a seat set into the shower, which is an excellent safety feature for showering while underway at sea.

The forward VIP cabin is precisely that, light, spacious and a touch luxurious with its walk-around double bed. Eight overhead lockers, an ample single hanging cupboard with draws and a huge draw at the foot of the bed. Twin opening hatches and electric fans help to keep this space well-ventilated if you don’t have the reversible air conditioning option installed. This is another one of those must-have options if you are going to seriously circumnavigate the world. The hull windows are just the right size and height to give you fantastic views from your bed; imagine waking up with the sun shining over white sandy beaches, the distant dark green of palm trees, and the expectation for your days diving at a coral reef or enjoying an importune BBQ on the beach, perfect, except for one thing Allures have done such a good job insulating the hull (65mm) of the 51.9 that it’s very likely you won’t hear the gentle lapping of the sea against the hull, but a sacrifice I am willing to make.

Returning to the salon heading aft, I am reminded why these are such good seaboats; she is a very stable craft with all the wait central (18.4 tones). This is helped by having the fuel tanks (730L) and your water tanks (620L) below the salon floor, providing easy access for any maintenance.

1

Maintenance

One of the stand-out areas of the Allures is the technical space, accessed on the starboard side aft of the salon and forming the corridor to the owner suite. Allures have dressed this space up for the 51.9 by making it blend in with its surroundings, and all the cabinetry is in the same light oak finish hiding the spare parts, draws, wet locker, extra fridge or freezer and washing machine. There is plenty of room for your tools and any other bits and bobs you might collect for your next adventure. To port, you will find the door for the engine and tec room. The soundproofing and insulation (65mm) are as good as the hull insulation, and I will admit that coming back to the marina, there was some engine noise, as can be expected, but not enough that it would disturb your sleep if you were of-watch on passage. She comes equipt with a Volvo penta D3 110 HP diesel, 40L water heater, fuel & water filters, generator and the list goes on. What is noticeable is how clearly marked all the electrical cables, water pipes, and manifolds are. A well-lit area that was designed with sailors in mind, and access for the generator (Fp generator 5000i) is by lifting three of the companionway steps allowing you complete access.

cabina armatoriale

Aft cabin, Owners suite

The beam of this yacht is genuinely visible here at 4.82M and a standing height off well over 2M. Only a few yachts at the 50ft mark can boast this amount of space and comfort; in fact, only one or two comes to mind, and one of those is a French manufacturer as well. Entering the cabin, you are greeted with light from the nearly complete beam-length windows above the island double bed. As you face the bed, there are two good-sized hanging lookers to your left (starboard side), four overhead lockers, an air-con controller; mains plug and USB chargers. Draws under the bed, and the bed also lifts on gas struts to provide even more stowage. To your right (port side), a lovely lounging chair offers a spot to relax as you soak in your surroundings, pinching yourself occasionally, knowing how lucky you are; four overhead lockers and stowage behind your lounger for books and personal things as well. You also have your own plugs and USB chargers on this side of the bed. This cabin also has its own ensuite heads and separate shower mirroring the forward heads. The choice of materials and fittings grant this cabin a true feeling of luxury.

Would I buy one? The strait answer is yes; I would love to own an Allures 51.9 . It has everything I want in a cruising yacht and much more. She feels indestructible on the water and, with some extra canvas to increase her sail area for light wind days, she’ll lift her skirts and go whatever the weather.

She might not be the most responsive boat on the helm, but when she gets going, you feel like nothing can stop her.

I love that she’s got an aluminium hull because it requires just the amount of upkeep I have time for – absolutely none!

Seeing her approaching will scare most GRP boat owners into action and looking for extra fenders.

The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and versatile; there is room for maintenance and running repairs, relax, be social or hideaway.

The thought of making a morning coffee, sitting at the Salone table, looking out across some remote anchorage.

Is she for you?

If you’re looking for a serious sailboat capable of coastal, offshore and bluewater sailing , the Allures 51.9 should be on your shortlist.

She has layout options to satisfy a couple or a family and can easily be sailed short-handed over long distances. Add to that the ability to dry out or navigate in just over a metre of water gives you a formidable package, even without all the advantages an aluminium hull brings to the table.

With the GRP deck, aluminium round-bilge and centreboard, she’s unique.

Like most yachts, she could benefit from a few minor tweaks here and there, which any owner would have their views on, but Allures can adapt to and incorporate your ideas.

Fact and Figures Allures 51.9

Beautiful boat. Does the yacht come with a washer and dryer for live aboard cleaning clothes?

The new Allures 51.9 is hugely pragmatic with much to offer a family or shorthanded crew that want to head for the horizon on a bluewater adventure

allures yachting garcia

Product Overview

Grand Large Yachting, the company that owns Allures, specialises in rugged, go-anywhere cruisers with a strongly practical streak, from the plywood RM yachts, to Garcia’s all-aluminium ultra-tough expedition yachts. So it’s no surprise that the new Allures 51.9 is hugely pragmatic with much to offer a family or shorthanded crew that want to head for the horizon and do some serious exploration.

The curved aluminium hull, crafted without hard chines, offers greater strength than GRP, while a composite deck and coachroof allow for moulding softer shapes, better insulation and plenty of opening hatches. Below decks, effort has been made to make this a more comfortable, luxurious boat than previously, with a large U-shaped galley on a lower level, aft of a large nav station with seating either side. This, and the large saloon table, which lowers down, are on a raised section of cabin sole, providing more stowage and better views, though this is not a deck saloon.

allures yachting garcia

A large saloon table to port can be lowered into a lounging area or double berth

The 51.9 replaces the 52 from 2016 and the 51 from 2009 before that, and is very much an evolution of her predecessors. As with those boats, she has a lifting centreboard, internal ballast and twin rudders allowing her to dry out without support. The hull now has larger internal volume thanks to the beam being taken further aft, which allows for accommodation space which is longer overall than the 52. Options are for a two-cabin version with palatial aft and forward cabins, or a three-cabin version with two equal double cabins forward, or a larger double cabin and a smaller bunk cabin just aft of it.

On deck, the centre cockpit is six metres long with all lines led aft to just forward of the twin wheels, so it’s easy to sail shorthanded.

The forward end of the cockpit, under the cockpit arch is also protected by either a large sprayhood, or as fitted to hull number one, a large fixed doghouse with full standing headroom; the mid-boom mainsheet is fixed atop either of these structures.

There’s space for stowage of cruising kit and sails in large lockers below the quarterdeck and in the bow, and the boat comes as standard with an inner forestay, and a bowsprit for offwind sails.

The bad news from this year´s edition of the Vendeé Globe are devastating for all carbon-loving foil-lovers out there – with HUGO BOSS dropping out, Escoffier activating his EPIRB and PRB dropping out – the real test for both material, new technology and the IMOCA-skippers is yet to come in the Southern Ocean. And I may ask myself if “faster-lighter-more extreme” is the solution for everything. Well, it certainly seems to be for professional offshore racing but I would say for private skippers daring to traverse to the far Northern or Southern parts of our earth a rather different approach is more likely to produce a success: Aluminium.

allures yachting garcia

How convenient: Just last week I again watched the masterpiece “The Terror” about the ill-fated Franklin expedition more than some 180 years ago, quite fitting to the falling temperatures here in Germany. Now, with the first snow downpour already in the forecast and people starting to dress up for the serious winter-period I called my dear colleage and friend Nils Schürg of Blue Yachting. I know that he regularly has some nice boats at hand, asking if he could show me something: “Well, nothing less than our current flagship!” I jumped in joy and followed his call to Bremerhaven.

allures yachting garcia

Nild Schürg is Germany´s aluminium specialist when it comes to the boats made by the Grand Large Yachting Group – their two distinct brands Allures and Garcia are top-notch French-made sailing boats made for demanding sailors planning the ultimate trip. I already visited the yard in Cherbourg (read the full article here ) and had quite a good picture of how these boats are built and to which level craftsmanship, quality material and parts and dedication to a perfect product goes. From my own experience I know, that these boats are rare gems. Yachts sold on the second-hand market are quickly off proposal – if ordered today, your brand new Garcia might be delivered in 2022!

The difference between a yacht and a ship

It´s always a pleasure crawling aboard one of these ships. And I deliberately use the term “ship” here because these boats have almost nothing in common with ordinary big production yachts made of GRP. The aluminium hull, in case of the Garcia Exploration a round-chined hull with a flat bottom for grounding, can take a load. Collisions with floating objects, ice growlers or sleeping whales won´t do much harm to these real ships. But there are also lots of bigger and smaller details which sets them apart from their recreational counterparts.

allures yachting garcia

Take Explorations´s coachroof for example: The large, thick granny bars, made of solid stainless steel tubes indicate that this boat might be operated by men in harsh sea- and weather conditions . This boat does not come with convenient in-mast furling like the Mediterranean leisure craft, a thorough full-batten main climbs up the almost 19 metres high mast – an almost 7 metre long carbon-made spinnaker boom indicates serious sailing action. Have you noticed the inverted front windows?

allures yachting garcia

These are more than just trendy accessories. Seen from inside it becomes clear that the sloped windows will insure that spray and rain from above won´t be hitting the glass too much, a detail copied from professional shipbuilding. Also, the unusual placement of the navigation station right next to the mast stand in the front of the saloon is a trademark of Garcia yachts. When trimmed correctly, the boat can be steered from here safely – dry and warm, best round-sight guaranteed, plotter , Radar-data and charts quickly at hand.

allures yachting garcia

The Garcia Exploration comes with the right mix of electric and electronic aides without over-equipping the boat. At least the owner of this very Exploration 52 refrained from taking on too much of those gadgets. Of course, electronic engine controls like we know them from power boats is a must here, but I was astonished and positively surprised by how little electronics this boat boasted. Nevertheless, this huge 16.60 metres long behemoth needs power …

allures yachting garcia

The sailplan offers 121 square metres of upwind sail area (the almost equally big Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 54 clocks in at 128 square metres) with a 130 square metres Gennaker . She of course is neither a speedy nor a particularly vivid boat. Her full body hull, the centreboard configuration and the relatively high displacement of nearly 20 tons (compared to 16.6 tons of the Oceanis Yacht 54) aren´t made to compete in twinkle-toed sailing. A Garcia is made to beach off the Arctic Circle somewhere on a rocky deserted island, to offer shelter in Force 10 winds and high waves and bring you safely to places most – of not all – others can´t go.

allures yachting garcia

See the thick seethrough-door sealing off watertight the lazarette from the aft port-side cabin? These are the detais I love about this boat. Not a small opening for revisioning, a hole just barely suitable to have two mechanic´s hands go through to do the annual steering-cable check – but a whole door a man can fit through properly, a thick safety-glass door to quickly observe and quickly taking a llook onto steering and other equipment. A ship. A true ship.

Safe and sound: Living aboard the Garcia Exploration 52

A 52 footer with just two cabins. That´s telling the story of who opt for a boat like this. It´s most likely the well-off couple, having finished their commercial life, maybe having sold their company, their stock or other assets, realizing their lifelong dream of the real adventure. These aren´t more than two people. A couple with occasional guests. In standard layout, this bort comes with the owner´s cabin in the forepeak and the aft cabin to starboard side. Vis-à-vis a workshop (with a pilot berth ) is fitted. Clearly, the center of the yacht is the large saloon that takes up more than one third of the hull and most of the volume.

allures yachting garcia

Garcia offers a multi-level saloon, a mix of the deck saloon-concept , classic yacht-design and own approaches, like the forward facing captain´s station. Upon entering down the short companionway a guest can use the bathroom to port side (ingeniously equipped with a large wet-locker that has heating-outlets) or directly enter the large dining/seating area. That´s a huge O-shaped sofa with a folding table (that can also slide down, converting the whole area into one large bed). The level is elevated so that one can enjoy almost a 360 degree round-view through the coachroof windows . Two steps down to port is huge galley.

allures yachting garcia

I loved the classy Danish-made Refleks-heating which can be substituted or flanked by traditional Webasto Diesel-heating systems. Just imagine being at anchor in Patagonia, temps below freezing and a warm, thick moist heat is boiling in this saloon – fresh coffee and a chart of a new, unknow island before you … what a dream! Talking of imagination: This boat is full of expertise and ideas of seamen and able skippers. The amount of details, some of them hidden, some so obvious, is staggering.

It´s in the details

I´ve seen lots of them in the yard when I got a full tour and had the pleasure of seeing the yachts being built from raw aluminium-hulls , receiving their insulation, electric installations and so forth. Nils shows me the lee-sails which make the captain´s seat safe even in extreme heeling, fitted in 15 seconds. I loved the opening handles of the large galley windows – normally you get these fizzling small venting holes, on the Garcia it´s a whole window that opens up.

allures yachting garcia

The furniture quality is flawless. We talk a lot about quality and the differences of the brands. In Garcia, there´s a spotless fitting of wooden equipment, lots of massive timber, nicely sanded and mounted rock solid. No cheap veneer. And also, no one-off fitting flaws: Garcia and Allures yachts are built in a modern, modular and industrialized style. People are not running around with single parts to be screwed together within the boat: All the furniture arrives ready to be mounted. In this, Grand Large Yachting is a very modern yard – most certainly their finishing quality is what makes them the leading brand in aluminium boating to date.

allures yachting garcia

If not produced by themselves, Garcia utilized OEM parts of highest quality. Just by looking at the hinges in the table, the latches, the small and bigger handles up to the knobs here and there: When on the production boats these parts are mostly the same, you won´t find them on Garcia. Rock solid, mostly metal, plastic is avoided where possible. That adds up to the budget, of course – but people going for a boat like this most likely do not have to care for the budget.

allures yachting garcia

A Garcia Exploration 52 starts at some 1.3 million Euros. Depending on the boxes you tick when ordering one, up to 1.8 million Euros is a pretty realistic scenario. I wonder how many – or less – people on Earth can really sail a boat like this in the way it is conceived to? How many will go traversing the Northwest Passage or round the Cape of Horn? Doesn´t matter, I reckon: Life is in our heads. Even when the owners of this particular boat will never listen to growlers scratching along the thick aluminium hull, as long as they are loving their boat, who am I to judge them?

If I´d be captain here.

All boats are a compromise. Garcia trades safety and sturdiness for speed, of course, trades her ability to getting beached or fall dry for lower pointing abilities due to her centerboarder-configuration. Her internal layout is unique but pretty perfect – apart from the only thing I do not really like: The owner´s bathroom, which is located in the farthest front. I know, when underway people will use the main bathroom in the saloon anyway, but that´s a thing I don´t like.

allures yachting garcia

Apart from that, the forward cabin is nicely done. The large bed isn´t one of these fancy – but in high sees or extreme (and also in rather low) heeling almost unusable – island beds. Instead it is located alongside starboard side hull, to port lee sails provide safety against falling off from bed when a wave hits suddenly and boat heels over to port side.

allures yachting garcia

What I loved though was the working area on this very port side in the fore cabin which is exemplary. A nice well-sized table top, a swinging stool (which I would probably order with a back rest) and a nice view out the small window. When my kids are too loud out there in the saloon, that would be my place for sitting over the charts, hitting the keyboard of my laptop and at last getting to write all those books I wanted to have written for so long.

You get what you pay for …

Now, is that a dream yacht? Most certainly, yes! Garcia yachts are sold out even longer than my own brand, people seem to tackle waiting time without a problem. Out there are just a handful of serious competitors, like KMY when it comes to units and building quality, Alubat , maybe Boréal when it comes to similar concepts. The rest is a set of interesting brands and concepts but made in expensive one-off builds which is not always best for the quality in the end.

allures yachting garcia

I enjoyed the hours aboard this Garcia Exploration 52 although this kind of boat – even if I´d had the money – would not be “my” boat for sure. But lucky me, the yard offers with their Allures-line a slightly different, more faster and livelier boat almost capable of achieving the same range of application. It certainly was an interesting re-assurance that boat building is more than huge flat cockpits, sunlounges and big bathing platforms – there is something for everyone, Garcia tops out being something very special for very special people.

Comparative review of Allures 52, Garcia Exploration 52, Alubat Cigale 16

Regardless of whether you are traveling in high latitudes, heading into the tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea, or planning a trip around the world - you need a reliable, safe yacht. Who better to cope with this task than the aluminum yachts of the leading yacht builders.

In this review, we look at sleek aluminum cruising yachts capable of crossing oceans, breaking ice, while still providing cozy living spaces. What makes these three 52-foot yachts different - Allures 52, Garcia   Exploration 52 and Alubat   Cigale 16? What market segment does each model target? How to choose a yacht according to your cruise plan?

Allures  52

Allures 52  Is much more than meets the eye. Designed  Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design Studio,  This rugged yet elegant long voyage boat is built for true cruisers. It is the embodiment of the cruise dream of speed and comfort without compromise or performance overbalance.

Allures 52  built in Normandy, France to a very high standard, the welds are always professional and flawless, and the rounded insulated hulls are simply a work of art. Each yacht  Allures  is manufactured by a carefully formed team of specialists, reflecting the quality of the boat both on and below the deck.

The double rudder provides a flawless transition on the high seas and responds to light touch when sailing in high winds. The integral centerboard rises, reducing draft from 3.30 m to 1.10 m. This allows access to shallow water and also provides excellent performance from the upwind side.

The composite superstructure allows to reduce the total weight of the boat, and thanks to the easily controllable rigging, two people can steer the boat even in harsh conditions from the spacious and seaworthy cockpit. A delicate robot for finishing, bright stylish interiors, a good view from the salon through large windows, and an impeccable galley.

Fuel, water and battery tanks are positioned precisely in the center of the hull to provide an exceptional strength and balance-to-weight ratio for the aluminum hull. There is also ample storage space on the boat, including plenty of aft space for a generator, watermaker, spare parts, or anything else you might need extra space for. For a cruise yacht of this size, it is extremely important to provide the crew with autonomy during long ocean crossings.

The aft cabin on the starboard side may have a cabin, technical room or workshop. And if you prefer a combination of all three, the workbench can be converted into a bunk with ample storage space underneath. This design flexibility combined with unique capabilities  Allures will provide the owner with a truly enviable boat.

Garcia   Exploration  52

Garcia Exploration 52  built on the basis of the legendary yacht project  Jimmy Cornella   Garcia Exploration 45 ... Yachting guru in conjunction with the shipyard  Garcia  created a dream yacht for the yachtsman himself, which eventually became a dream for all yachtsmen in the world.

Garcia Exploration 45  was specially designed for Jimmy Cornell's passage through  Northwest Passage ... In his life, he has traveled over 200,000 miles, traveled several times around the world, wrote many books about cruise itineraries that can be found on every yacht, founded several cruise rallies, including  Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC).

Before yacht project development  Garcia ,  Jimmy Cornell  owned three yachts and traveled hundreds of thousands of miles. Of course, it is just such a person that you would entrust the project of your future yacht. His requirements for a good boat are extremely simple: a sturdy, fast, comfortable, functional and easily manageable yacht, ideal for both high latitudes and tropical sailing. Thus, keeping the principles of the 45th model, but increasing the size to 52 feet, the shipyard has created an even more majestic yacht for any region of sailing.

Garcia Exploration 52

Outside,  Garcia Exploration 52  looks solid and muscular, while retaining that heavy duty cockpit roof that resembles the bridge of a warship and which is the key to getting a good view from the inner helm station. The solid roof, which proved to be a good shelter on the 45, has increased in size and height. The extra 7 feet gave the yacht many benefits, such as an additional 600 liter tank. Of course, in general, the boat became almost 5 tons heavier and about 250 thousand euros more expensive than  Garcia 45 .

A yacht designed for high latitudes must provide the crew with safety and comfort, both inside and out.  Exploration 52  has double-glazed windows facing forward to the bow deck giving the skipper a 270 ° view. Its technical characteristics are more reminiscent of those of a rescue tug than a cruising yacht, including a watertight saloon door, watertight forward and aft bulkheads and watertight hatches in the aft compartments.

All tanks are centered and an anchor locker located at the foot of the mast for optimal weight distribution. Other key features include an integral aluminum centerboard and dual rudder bar with protective skegs for shallow water sailing. But the favorite, however, is the chain plate at the bottom of the stem for towing and ice breaking.

Owners can choose from two, three or four cabins, with seating for four to eight crew members. If the four-cabin version is chosen, it is possible to equip a workshop below deck.

Success  Garcia Exploration 52  lies in its robust hull, wheelhouse and deck saloon, which provides a very secure position for all-round watch watches, along with a very long list of other benefits:

all fittings are made of welded aluminum and all valves are located above the waterline; thermal and acoustic insulation was installed above the waterline using polyethylene foam panels, as well as a thick foam insulated floor; electric windlass, located in a cabinet below deck directly in front of the mast; built-in aft arch for the installation of electronics, a wind generator, solar panels with the possibility of using it as a davit; a large aft platform has been installed with easy access to water and also for easy loading; the location of the life raft in the locker, which is accessed from the aft platform; all main sheets are controlled from the cockpit.

So, two boats belonging to the same group, both made of aluminum, have a very similar hull, so what are the differences between them?

Apart from the obvious differences that the design  Garcia 52  there is a deck salon, and  Allures 52 , the saloon itself, and the navigation post in the saloon are simply raised, the boats are significantly different, and indicate slightly different market sectors.

Both boats are very seaworthy, designed for long ocean crossings with great autonomy, but while  Allures 52  we could call the perfect cruiser,  Garcia 52  goes even further.

Garcia Exploration 52 , relatively  Allures , has a reinforced hull structure, and while on  Allures , the decks are made of composite sandwich to reduce the weight of the boat, on  Garcia  they are made of aluminum to make the boat even more durable, and only the roof of the cabin is made of composite. All of this is responsible for superior weight.  Garcia 52 , about two tons more (from 16.9 to 18.8 tons), and this certainly makes  Garcia  a smoother and more expensive sailboat. Both boats use the same weapon configuration. The difference in price is also significant - the cost  52ft Allures , about the same as the cost  45ft Garcia .

Allures 45.9 rugged aluminum yacht review

Both boats are of a similar configuration, with a large hydrodynamically profiled centerboard, which provides good draft when the centerboard is lifted, for entry into shallow water where other boats cannot get close.

Most of the ballast is on the skeg, which protects the propeller, and some is at the base of the hull in the center. Even with most of the ballast on the skeg, the required ballast weight is much higher than on a boat with a fixed keel. Both boats have excellent running rigging that makes it easy to control the sails from the cockpit, even alone.

Interior and configuration  Garcia 52  will leave anyone speechless. Deck salon - as reliable as a tank, as spacious as a house. The ideal boat for life. Spaces are allocated for everything you can imagine, from a generator to a watermaker, air conditioner, washing machine, large freezer and diesel tank, to keep all equipment running for a long time.

Garcia  offers excellent interior quality and finishes, with a very good interior on two levels, with a raised seating area for all-round visibility, with a relatively small glazed surface in height but almost continuous in length. And double glazing guarantees good insulation from cold or heat. Interior  Allures 52  more classic, but this is only in comparison with such a giant as  Garcia .

The level of comprehension, practicality and functionality that are concentrated in these boats is simply impressive. This is only possible due to the level of involvement in the design, close communication with yachtsmen, dialogue with clients and a great experience in construction. But what is most impressive is that this practicality is not reflected in aesthetics. In fact, you can't even say that these are rugged aluminum boats designed for exploring distant places, and not a luxury cruiser like  Amel  or  Hallberg Rassy .

Alubat Cigale 16

Alubat Cigale 16  - everything is new, except for the concept and name.  Cigale  sounds familiar to experienced yachtsmen, but completely new  Cigale 16  Is a concept of a comfortable and elegant, fast cruiser.

Designed  Jean-marie finot  back in the late 90s,  Cigale  was focused primarily on performance. It was a fast and lightweight aluminum yacht that slightly resembled racing yachts.  Maxi while offering a completely new approach to the interior configuration of the yacht: all cabins were moved to the bow of the boat, while the aft under the cockpit was freed from bulkheads to accommodate a giant saloon. Nowadays,  Cigale  considered a classic yacht and a popular model in the used boat sector.

In a new project  Alubat Cigale 16 developed in collaboration with a yacht architect  Mark Lombard , the shipyard decided to combine both the progress made in naval architecture and technical improvement.

Lineup redesign  Cigale  launched back in 2009. At the first stage, the shipyard took up the modernization  Cigale 16  - this was the priority boat they wanted to bring to the market. The main goal of the project was, first of all, to improve the dimensions of the cockpit and increase the comfort of the boat. One of the main challenges was the creation of a life-size dinghy space. Another important issue was the simplification of the yacht design. First version  Cigale  was considered too heavy and too complex to assemble.

As a result, a more reliable, more elegant and more comfortable yacht has been developed. 100% aluminum structure, clean lines, fully cleaned deck with hidden deck hatches. Everything has been carefully thought out to give new life to a classic yacht  Alubat Cigale 16 .

The deck plan highlights the fact that aluminum can also be elegant. The boat is maneuverable, easily steered by a small crew, with plenty of living space on board. The inflatable dinghy can be stored on the deck, which becomes a great place to sunbathe at anchor. Hard case  Cigale 16  provides stability and power, allowing the boat to carry large sails. Slim hold, keel and double rudder blade designed  Mark Lombard , allow you to make the most of the rugged case. A small crew can use the boat's full potential thanks to a simple and functional deck layout.

The rugged hull is designed with maximum waterline, reduced wetted surface and light displacement for speed, upwind and extended sailing in trade winds. The rearward movement of the mast, in addition to the extended rigging and staysail, provides propulsion in all conditions and remains easy to handle.

In terms of living space comfort, the deeper and more spacious cockpit is equipped with a simple and optional dual steering system, allowing a small crew to operate the boat easily and safely. Easy access to the large feed platform on both sides without stepping over the rail. In addition, the path around the steering wheels is clear. Thus, everyone's comfort is guaranteed.

In keeping with the tradition of this lineup, the new  Cigale 16  offers a spacious aft saloon that is sure to witness unforgettable evenings with stunning views through the windows in the swim platform just above the waterline.

Available in 3 and 4 cabin versions. The light oak interior emphasizes the modernity of the concept and the quality of the new design. Wide saloon with sea views on both sides and aft; the galley and navigation table are located in the center; bow cabins, well lit and ventilated. With two helm stations as an option, or with just one helm station, you will benefit from the quality of this new boat: efficient, simple and safe in all conditions. It all does  Alubat Cigale 16  a good boat for traveling at speed with maximum comfort. And of course the fact that  Cigale  made of aluminum, making it suitable for sailing in extreme northern and southern latitudes in rough seas and at the coldest temperatures.

First of all, aluminum ocean yachts such as Garcia, Allures and Alubat have a high price range. In addition, the technical characteristics of these boats are geared more towards experienced yachtsmen. And this limits sales, because most of today's customers pay more attention to internal volumes, comfort, innovative toys, and, accordingly, to the price-space ratio.

The main aspect in modernization  Alubat Cigale 16  the idea was to create a very fast cruiser with a stern saloon, a configuration that is still missing in the yachting industry.  Cigale , both then and now remains the only boat that offers such a configuration. Thus, the shipyard offers a completely different approach to planning and interior design, combining comfort and performance. But let's just say, not for everybody.

The idea was to make the boat more ergonomic in terms of handling. Comfort for the helmsman and crew was a top priority. Also, the goal of the shipyard was to facilitate the production part for itself. From the point of view of facilitating its construction.  Cigale 16   Is a popular size boat and is suitable for a small crew, but above all, it is a fast boat, for extreme travel and thrill lovers with a good experience. This is a serious yacht for harsh conditions - and it is definitely not a family cruiser.

The monohull cruising market is now competing with multihull yachts as well. Construction of an aluminum yacht, and even with an individual approach to production as in  Garcia  and  Allures  Is a very laborious process for a shipyard, but in the end the yacht is worth every cent spent.

It is absolutely possible to say that there are no two identical yachts in the world.  Allures  or  Garcia ... Each yacht is semi-custom built, so the owner gets the best of what works for his cruise plan and meets the needs of his crew.

Concerning  Allures 52  - this is a great option for those who are looking for a very good aluminum boat to live on, circumnavigate the globe as autonomously as possible, take refuge in very shallow waters, explore places inaccessible to other cruisers. Those who do not plan to sail in high latitudes, but want to own the safest and most durable boat - this is definitely  Allures 52.  It is lighter, faster and much cheaper.

If you dream of exploring the Arctic and Antarctic or other really remote places with permanent residence on board, boats are better than  Garcia Exploration 52  not found in the yachting industry. It is truly an exploration vessel with the highest level of taste and comfort. A versatile boat that will look good both in the Mediterranean and Antarctica. Besides buying  Garcia  or  Allures , you join the owners club  Grand large yachting  and you will receive support and advice from both the shipyard and other owners.

Designer:  Racoupeau Yacht Design

Hull Length:   48.39′ Waterline:  44.94′ Beam:   14.53′ Draft:   9.51’/3.48′ Displacement:  12.6 tons Ballast:  4.78 tons Engine:   Volvo Penta D2-55 55hp diesel Diesel Tank:  165 gallons Water tank:  110 gallons

Whether cruising the ICW or heading offshore  for the tropical waters of the Caribbean, Allures Yachting’s 45.9 is more than meets the eye.

Created by the renowned Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design Studio , Allures’ line of rugged yet elegant passagemakers are built with the true cruiser in mind. And valuable input from experienced owners has helped to craft a vessel that is distinct and intuitive. Just at home reaching fast in the tradewinds as picking their way through rocky fjords or finding shelter in shallow, protected anchorages, no detail has been spared for those looking to achieve their cruising dreams in style and comfort.

Built in France to a very high standard , the welds are professionally and cleanly executed and the rounded, insulated hulls are a thing of beauty. Twin rudders provide impeccable tracking in large seas and respond to a light touch while sailing close to the wind.

A composite superstructure keeps the boat’s overall weight down  and with an easily handled cutter rig, a couple or shorthanded crew can safely manage the boat in even the most boisterous conditions from the roomy and seaworthy cockpit.

Each 45.9 is crafted by a dedicated team of boatbuilders  and it shows just as much down below as on deck. The finely crafted interiors are bright and visibility from the salon and galley is impeccable through large windows. Fuel, water and batteries are housed under a raised cabin sole to keep weight centered and low. And there is a generous amount of storage throughout, including a large space aft of the engine for a generator, watermaker, spare parts or whatever you might need extra room for.

No two Allures yachts are the exact same , and each boat is highly customizable so the owner gets the best of what works for their cruising style and crew. The starboard aft cabin, for instance, can be a stateroom, technical room or workshop. And if you’d prefer a combination of all three, the workbench can be converted into a bunk with ample storage underneath.

Two versions for the same passion

This 45.9 is available in a centerboard version for shallow draft  — a shipyard specialty that enables beaching in total autonomy — and a lifting keel version that is ideal for those who prefer the performance of a lighter sailboat.

  • Technical locker between the two cabins suitable to accommodate a power generator and a washing machine,
  • Ample storage space in the skirt — 13 kg gas bottle compartment and fender compartment.
