Maui meets Mission- a LOTS of little kids resort!

Finished a 6 night stay at the Catamaran. I will list cons first: Family resort means there are tons of kids running around with no supervision. They will run into you and their parents don’t care. Even at hotel restaurant which is tough, and I love kids… I had to pull my room apart looking for something and it was very dirty. I asked the front desk 3 times to vacuum up the Splenda/halls/garbage in our covered hall and it never happened. I gave up. I also understand it’s a holiday week, but I’m not a neat freak and it grossed me out. Pros: This hotel is gorgeous. The coy ponds and ground as so gorgeous, it’s a Polynesian themed motel done well. Rooms remind me of Oahu and are spacious if you get a good room- don’t book the most basic. Location is one block from the beach but even better …on a quiet bay. I didn’t find a restaurant we loved compared to when we stay closer to downtown, but we were 20-30 minutes from every fun place on our visit list (including the seal pups at La Jolla!!). Overall: traveling with young kids? This place is the best. If you want some peace and quiet as a couple- go somewhere else.

Do not book- deceiving room descriptions

The only reason I have this review 2 stars was because I think there are nice rooms at this resort, we just didn’t stay in one. We were staying in the towers. Did not realize these rooms and building would be nothing like the images online. It was like staying in dated 90s motel. For $300 a night - not worth it. Popcorn ceilings, outdated worn out design and a lovely view of the parking structure - never mentioned. The pull out sofa bed has a creaky mattress that hasn’t been updated for years. Every morning we were awakened by construction noises coming from the room above us. When we’d use the shower there was loud banging noise coming from somewhere a-water heater? I only live one hour from San Diego but was trying to plan a close family getaway with a Hawaiian feel. Don’t be deceived. The pictures are in no way reality if you are staying in the towers. The halls are creepy and elevators are disgusting. I’m not usually picky, but for the rate and what was advertised online this was deceiving. Management didn’t seem to care, we were told there were no other rooms available.

He also informed me on whether or not it would be worth getting a rental car in San Diego and fun things to do around the area. I highly recommend booking with him if looking to stay at the Catamaran Resort!

Brilliant location and brilliant hotel.

This was a return trip to the Catamaran for us. We love the location on the bay and just a five minute walk to the ocean. The grounds continue to be maintained to an exceptionally high standard and the rooms are well proportioned and cleaned to a high standard every day. Food is great and bar does a wonderful margarita. We’ll definitely be back. Only potential niggle was a high daily car park charge for resident guests on top of daily resort fee.
