How To Hang A Hammock On A Sailboat

' src=

Key Takeaways:

  • Choose a suitable location on your sailboat, ensuring there’s enough distance between the two hanging points for your hammock . Use strong ropes or hammock straps to secure the hammock, making sure they can support your weight. Test the hammock gently before use and adjust as necessary for comfort and safety.
  • When choosing a hammock for a sailboat, material, size, style, strap strength, portability, spreader bars, and comfort are crucial factors. Opt for durable, quick-drying materials like nylon. Consider the available space on your boat and your personal preference for size and style. Ensure the straps are reliable and strong enough for your weight, and the hammock is easy to store and comfortable.
  • Regularly inspect the hammock, its ropes, and attachment points for any signs of wear or damage, and replace any worn-out parts promptly. Always be aware of the weight limit specified by the hammock’s manufacturer to avoid potential accidents.

Ah yes, a hammock! There’s truly nothing like swinging on a hammock on your sailboat, lulled by the rhythm of the sea. But how to set it up? If that question’s been nagging you, then you’re in the right place! Let’s delve into the not-so-mysterious art of hanging a hammock on a sailboat

Table of Contents

Hanging a hammock on your sailboat can be a game-changer for comfort on the water, especially on those lazy sunny days.

Here’s a basic step-by-step guide:

  • Choose your spot: The first thing you need is a good location. Typically, between the mast and the forestay is the most common choice. But you can also hang it from the boom or between two fixed points in the cockpit or cabin, depending on your boat’s layout and the hammock size.
  • Measure the distance: Ensure the distance between the two hanging points is suitable for your hammock. The rule of thumb is that the distance should be at least the total length of the hammock, but not more than 1.5 times its length .
  • Use strong ropes: Attach strong, durable ropes or hammock straps to your chosen points. Make sure they’re secured tightly and can support your weight. You don’t want to go for an unexpected swim!
  • Attach the hammock: Tie each end of the hammock to the ropes. Aim for a dip in the middle , so the hammock looks like a smiling face from the side when not in use.
  • Test it out: Gently test the hammock with some weight before you fully climb in. Adjust as necessary for comfort and safety.

H anging a hamm ock on a sail boat can be a great way to relax and enjoy the ocean views . To get started , you will need two sets of marine - grade rope , each long enough to reach from one side of the boat to the other . Use a sturdy knot to secure one end of the rope to the boat, then tie the other end of the rope to the center of the hammock. Be sure to use a knot that won ’t slip or come undone when the boat is in motion .

How To Hang A Hammock On A Sailboat

Once the hamm ock is in place , tie the other set of rope to the opposite side of the boat and attach them to the hamm ock . Make sure that the hamm ock is securely fast ened before you use it .

Selecting a Hammock for Sailboat

Selecting a hammock for your sailboat is no trivial task. I mean, we’re talking about your comfort zone here, right? So let’s get you equipped with the knowledge you need to pick the perfect hammock for your sailing needs.

  • Material Matters: When you’re in a marine environment, durability and quick-drying abilities are crucial. Nylon hammocks are a fan-favorite for this reason. They resist mildew, dry quickly, and are super lightweight. But, if you’re after that traditional hammock feel, tightly woven cotton hammocks could also be your friend, just bear in mind, they may take a bit longer to dry.
  • Size & Style: This mostly comes down to personal preference and your boat’s available space. There are single and double hammocks, and some even come with a built-in bug net for those pesky mosquitoes. Consider the length and width of the hammock to ensure it will fit nicely between your attachment points.
  • Strap Strength: Your hammock is only as good as what’s holding it up, and that’s where strong, reliable straps or ropes come in. Look for straps with multiple loops for easy adjustments and ensure they’re strong enough to handle your weight.
  • Portability: Hammocks that come with a carry bag or ones that can be easily packed down into a small size are great for sailboats. They’re easier to store and won’t take up much space when not in use.
  • Spreader Bars or Not? Traditional hammocks do not have spreader bars. These are typically more comfortable and stable in a sailing environment. Hammocks with spreader bars, while they keep the hammock open and may seem appealing, can flip more easily. Not really what you want when you’re aiming for relaxation, right?
  • Comfort: This may seem obvious, but comfort is key. Some hammocks will have a tighter weave, providing a different level of comfort and support compared to ones with a looser weave. If possible, it’s a good idea to try before you buy.

The most important factor is the size of the boat - the hamm ock should be large enough to comfortably fit your boat and any passengers . Weight capacity is also important , as the hamm ock should be able to hold the weight of the passengers and any gear . You should also consider the materials used in the hamm ock , as they should be weather - resistant and durable enough to withstand frequent use .

Preparing the Area

Anch oring points should be chosen and installed , taking into account the weight of the hamm ock and the boat ’ s motion when at sea . If the hamm ock is to be attached to the deck , you will need to use appropriate fast eners and ensure they are installed securely and correctly .

Here are a few steps you’ll need to take: If the hamm ock is to be hung from the ceiling , you will need to use strong and secure hardware to ensure that it can withstand the movement of the boat .

Choose Your Spot

The first task is to find a suitable place on your sailboat to hang your hammock. The ideal location would be where the hammock can swing freely without hitting any equipment or parts of the boat. Look for sturdy attachment points like masts, booms, or secure railings. And remember, your hammock should never obstruct the captain’s view or hamper the operation of the boat.

Measure the Distance

Once you’ve picked your spot, grab a measuring tape, and measure the distance between the two points where you plan to hang your hammock. This distance will determine whether your hammock will fit or not. The general rule of thumb is that the distance should be roughly the total length of the hammock.

Check for Obstacles

Look for any potential obstacles in the area where your hammock will swing. This includes things like ropes, sails, or other equipment that could get tangled up with the hammock or affect its swing. Also, remember to consider the height — you want to be able to easily climb in and out of the hammock without any gymnastics, yet avoid dragging on the deck.

Safety Check

Double-check that your chosen points are sturdy and safe to hang a hammock from. They need to support your weight comfortably. Any signs of wear and tear on these points could indicate that they’re not strong enough, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Hammock Angle

The hammock should hang at a 30-degree angle for optimum comfort and stability. You can eyeball it, or if you’re a stickler for precision, use an angle measuring app on your smartphone.

Installing the Hammock

Installing the Hammock

Inst alling a hamm ock on a boat requires several steps . Y ou will need to identify secure points on the boat where the hamm ock can be attached . This could include cle ats , rail ings , or other points of secure attachment . Once secure points are identified , you will need to assemble the hamm ock . Install the straps , hooks , and any other pieces needed to secure the hamm ock onto the boat . .

  • Gather Your Materials Before you start, make sure you have everything you need: your hammock, two strong ropes or hammock straps, and possibly a buddy to help you out. Oh, and don’t forget your safety gear!
  • Attach the Hammock Straps or Ropes Start by attaching one end of your hammock to your first anchor point. You can either use a rope, or better yet, a hammock strap, which is designed for easy adjustability and maximum support. Remember that 30-degree angle we talked about earlier? This is where it comes into play.
  • Adjust for Comfort Walk over to your second anchor point with the other end of the hammock in your hand. You’ll want to secure it so the hammock hangs at the perfect height for climbing in and out easily. This might require a bit of adjusting, so don’t be afraid to fiddle around until you find your comfort sweet spot.
  • Double Check Your Work Once you’ve got the hammock hanging, give it a careful test. Gently apply your weight to make sure everything is secure. Check the anchor points, the rope or straps, and the hammock itself.
  •  Chill Time All set? Great! Climb in slowly, let the gentle rocking of the boat lull you into relaxation, and take in the beauty around you.

Once the hammock is installed, you can now enjoy it!

Maintenance and Safety

Maintaining a hammock on a sailboat and ensuring its safety are essential for a comfortable and enjoyable experience on board. Here are some straightforward tips for hammock maintenance and safety:

Ensure that the hammock is securely attached to strong and sturdy points on the sailboat. This can include robust anchor points like sturdy railings, cleats, or other designated areas meant for hammock installation.

Regularly inspect the hammock, its ropes, and attachment points for any signs of wear, tear, or damage. Check for fraying ropes, weak knots, or any compromised hardware. Replace any worn-out or damaged parts promptly.

Be aware of the weight limit specified by the manufacturer for the hammock. Avoid exceeding the recommended weight capacity to prevent any potential accidents or damage.

What kind of hammock is best for a sailboat?

Lightweight hammocks made from quick-dry, durable materials are best for a sailboat. Nylon hammocks are a popular choice because they’re weather-resistant and easy to pack up when you’re done lounging.

Can I leave my hammock up when I’m sailing or during the night?

It’s best to take down your hammock when you’re sailing, as well as overnight. Leaving it up while sailing could be dangerous, as it can act like an extra sail and affect the boat’s control. It could also get damaged. Overnight, dew or rain could leave you with a wet hammock, which isn’t fun to sit in and can take time to dry.

I don’t have a traditional hammock. Can I use a hammock chair on my sailboat?

Yes, hammock chairs can be a great option for sailboats, especially in the cockpit or cabin areas. Just make sure you have a sturdy point to hang it from, like a strong beam or mast.

Hanging a hammock on a sailboat can be a great way to enjoy some time outside in the sun, or to just relax and take in the ocean breeze. However, it’s important to make sure the process is done properly to ensure the safety of everyone on board. By following these steps, you’ll be able to install a hammock on your sailboat in no time and enjoy the ride!

Product and Use

Our hammock floor net material is light and comfortable to use, and the black nets in particular provide excellent transparency. They all have a very soft and discreet appearance. We recommend the 15mm mesh size for children’s areas, as it will prevent small objects from falling through. It is also suitable for longer naps. However, the dense mesh allows slightly less light to pass through. If you want to let more light into your interior through the mesh, consider the larger 30mm mesh size. This is a traditional catamaran net and the most commonly used size in interior design. It provides the most open and airy feel of the two mesh sizes, while still being comfortable to use.

Preparing a supporting frame

A supporting frame is the foundation of your hammock floor net project and must be properly sized and stable. Many customers choose to make it out of wood, as it is easy and inexpensive to install. However, the frame can also be made of solid concrete or metal structures. Since there is no standard or norm for this product and its use, we recommend consulting with a professional to ensure the correct sizing and installation of the frame and netting for your own safety. For more information on the supporting frame, please visit our page Instructions .

Installation and tension

To attach your hammock floor net to the frame, you will need closed eyelets (eyebolts, wall eyelets, or similar), which should be placed every 15 cm on the inside of the frame. Each eyelet must be able to withstand a pulling force of at least 200 kg. The recommended maximum load for the hammock floor is 500 kg, regardless of the net size.

Use two independent ropes to connect the hammock floor net to the grommets, and then tension them. The ropes should be laced around the net in a “zig-zag” pattern, and their combined length should be approximately 5 times the circumference of your frame to ensure optimal lacing and tension.

We recommend strongly adding the fasteners when you order the hammock floor net, so that we ensure the optimal anchoring and tensioning.

Secured shop and payment

International customer service

We offer two different mesh sizes for our hammock floor nets:

  • The 15mm mesh size provides greater comfort for lying down
  • The 30mm mesh size is more translucent and creates a more immersive floating experience

The Carefree Package

We offer complete sets with everything you need for a successful installation, including:

  • The taylor-made hammock floor net
  • The appropriate number of stainless steel anchors, which meet the load requirements and ensure that the tension ropes cannot be damaged
  • The necessary length of tension ropes, which has minimal elasticity and is ideal for achieving high tension forces and proper installation

What to measure

Please provide us with the inner/clear dimensions of your frame in the designated fields. Once you have confirmed your order with these dimensions, we will begin planning and calculating your hammock floor net. We will adjust the size of your net so that there is an approximate distance of 5 to 10 cm between the net’s bold rope and the frame for lacing and tension. This margin also allows you to adjust the tension of your hammock floor over time.

Finally! A Hammock-Carrying Catamaran

Once upon a time, a hammock and a catamaran met in the lifejacket section of a sporting goods store. They dated, fell in love, got married, and had a child. This is that baby: the Hammocraft . $1,000 gets you a frame kit that you can attach to a pair of paddleboards. You can then hook on up to five hammocks.

Use it safely. The company warns:

We highly recommend against trying to float whitewater or rapids.

I hadn't thought of doing that before, but now I've got to try it! It's time to give the emergency room nurses a new story to share.

(Photos: Hammocraft)

And apparently some people do precisely that .

About this item

  • Easy to setup and take anywhere
  • Tree straps included
  • 400 lb capacity

Product Description

While "double" hammocks are good for one or two people, we believe that one person is plenty for our Catamaran. Despite the roominess, it still packs into approximately the size of a small football with an attached bag so you can take it anywhere. Unpacked, it's about 10 1/2 feet by 6 1/2 feet, so plenty of room to spread out, but packs small enough to take with you. Includes lightweight aluminum carabiners. You don't need a fancy resort to relax. You can use it inside, outside, on the go. I can unpack and hang the Catamaran in about 30 seconds and repack in less than 90. So there is no setup/takedown investment. Use your time to relax. It comes with paracord tree/post straps. 26 ounces Holds up to 400 lbs. Made in China

Share Your Hang Ups: Hammocks On A Boat!

I just received a great email and photo from a happy Trek Light Gear customer.  Karen H. of Warwick, RI wrote in to share with us how much her husband has been enjoying the hammock he received this summer as a gift:

Trek_Light_Gear_boat_hammock

Karen said her husband calls it “the best gift he has ever received” and tells us “He absolutely loves it and it fits on the radar arch perfectly!  I spent quite a bit of online researching time to find the perfect one and I have to agree the Trek Light is perfect!!”

Well, of course I’d have to agree too - thanks Karen!   Karen was also quick to point out that the name of the boat is the ‘At Ease’ and of course the hammock addition is the perfect compliment to the boat’s namesake.

If you didn’t realize it, a Trek Light hammock really is the perfect accessory to any boat.  Most boats have plenty of options to hang a hammock (you may not even realize it until you turn on your ‘hammock vision’ and look around) and there’s nothing quite like being on a hammock surrounded by the blue seas and open sky.

And when the seas get rough you’ll be even happier - did you know that hammocks have long been used as a way to prevent sea sickness? It may seem counter-intuitive, and in fact most people I’ve talked to are under the impression that a rocking hammock is the last place they’d want to be when feeling seasick.   However, gravity will work in your favor – you’ll actually be staying almost completely still while the boat rocks around you!  Your mind may have a hard time understanding it but your body’s sense of equilibrium will be completely ‘at ease’ and you’ll keep that seasick feeling at bay.  Sailors have been using this trick for centuries but oddly enough most people aren't aware of it.

In addition to relaxing, we’ve had customers tell us some incredible stories involving our hammocks out on the water.  More than one customer has told us that they’ve actually used the hammock as a makeshift sail/kite when in a pinch on a small craft. And another customer told us they've tied the hammock to a line and used it as a drag anchor to slow down the drift of their small boat.  Definitely not what we’d call it’s ‘intended use’ but it’s amazing to hear how people have discovered interesting ways to put their hammock to use beyond the obvious.

Check out some more of our favorite boat hammock photos below:

Is It A Boat? Is It A Hammock? No, It’s Both!

catamaran hammock

If you’re enjoying a Western Canadian summer, two of the best ways to do so involve a hammock, or a boat. Seeking to improve on this mighty duo with a hammock-boat combo , [Jarrett] describes his progress at Vancouver Hack Space .

The boat he chose was a one-person catamaran with an aluminium frame and what appear to be inflatable pontoons, while the hammock is one designed for a garden or patio with a steel tubular frame. A design goal was to not modify or destroy the structure of either item, so the challenge was to securely mount the two frames together. A variety of false starts involving bent steel or aluminium were tried, followed by a final success with the aluminium tubes reinforced with more tube inside them, and the hammock attached with U-bolts.

The testing took place on what appears to be a public lake, and the contraption floated well. When it had been pushed out to a landing stage our intrepid adventurer boarded the hammock —  and promptly the whole edifice tipped itself over, depositing him in the drink. Further experimentation revealed that balance was critical, and a revised position could achieve a stable boarding. He paddles off into the sunset as you can see in the video below the break, though as his friends remind him, without his beer.

Commercial hammocks are surprisingly expensive for what they are. Don’t worry though, if you find them to be beyond your budget you can always make a frame for one yourself .

No, no, Jenny already told you: Bo(a)t H(ammock) = BotH. It’s Both.

Very good, I salute you!

(Takes bow/) :)

I’d rather have the rigid pontoons of a Hydrobike under me. (Pedaling/paddling?) one of those is a breeze!

https://hydrobikes.com/

How hard is it to tip over? Being tangled in a hammock underwater because some dick wanted to prank you sounds dangerous.

Side-to-side was not an issue, it was steady as a rock. Front to back, absolutely unstable without proper weight distribution. Entanglement was a serious concern, I kept a knife in my pocket, but it turned out to not be a worry at all, the hammock opens up nicely under water and I never felt unsafe (I am also not a good swimmer)

Sorry, the vertical video just took me right out of it.

Do you people not have vertical monitors?

Catemaran > catamaran Aluminum > aluminium (linked article) What’s wrong with proper English ?

you didn’t notice the mistakes next to aluminum. “tries, sollowed” should be “tried, followed”. at a sciencey level both spellings of aluminium are accepted by somebody

I commend you on this hack and willing to try in front of so many people. To be accepted as a hack from this group it has to have an Arduino or a 555 as part of the design :).

Where’s the beer cooler and fishing rod brackets?

I want to hack this with lipo batteries, a BLDC motor and a speed controller driven with PWM via a good ol’ 555. Adding an electric trolling motor is just too easy, lol.

Hammock Beach Marina: Catamaran? No Problem!

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

Hammock Beach Marina, 2022

Are two hulls better than one?

You bet your bimini catamaran owners think so! Over the last five years, catamarans, or cats for short, have exploded in popularity. Just some of the reasons for their fame are their stability, shallow draft, speed, storage, and light and airy living areas. Cruising catamarans have large hulls that can fit several cabins, and accommodate large structures on the bridge deck - like a galley, salon, and living area.

Florida’s best destination to dock your catamaran

Even with their rise in popularity, catamaran owners still find it difficult to hit upon a marina that offers wide-beam slips to properly accommodate large and wide vessels. One that does it flawlessly is Hammock Beach Marina in Palm Coast, Florida. If you’re cruising takes you outside of the Palm Coast area, a quick phone call to the marina you’re considering will tell you if they have the accommodations you require.

Another notable benefit of docking at the Hammock Beach is that it is part of the celebrated Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa . This means that boaters can enjoy its generous and luxurious list of amenities. While there, you can relax at the spa, take in a round of golf, walk along the beach, or jump right into one of their many pools. There is also a fitness center and tennis courts. When you’re hungry, there’s no need to leave the resort. Everything from an oceanfront seafood restaurant and a sushi bar, to a sports bar, Italian steakhouse, and ocean bar and café are just steps away. Should you prefer a quiet night, you can place a takeout order for onboard dining.

Hammock Beach Marina’s long list of amenities also includes concrete floating docks, pump out, 30-, 50- & 100-amp electric service, showers & laundry, wifi, transportation to the Club, and 24-hour security on-site.

Business meets pleasure

If you’re trip mixes business with pleasure, Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa’s events staff has you covered. Their spectacular grounds can accommodate everything from birthdays to meetings and corporate galas. Plus, their friendly and knowledgeable staff, voted “Best On-Site Support Staff”, can help you every step of the way.

Tips for docking and swinging your catamaran

Because catamarans have dual engines and twin props, maneuvering in close quarters is really a straightforward and easy process. The truth is that although the lack of keel(s), high freeboard, and the boat’s light weight might be off-putting at first, it will pass. Because the dual engines and twin-propeller configuration are awesome tools - even when space is tight, and wind and current are challenging.

catamaran hammock

Forget the wheel!

If you’re new to catamarans, the first thing you want to learn is to forget the wheel and leave the rudders in a neutral position. There will come a time when the rudders will be helpful, but save that until you’ve gathered enough experience. Because the boat’s twin propellers are far apart, it’s just not necessary to use the rudders. For that matter, when learning to dive a catamaran, rudders may add an unnecessary dynamic.

The main principle you want to grasp is that a catamaran can pivot in its own length, without moving for or aft. When you advance one throttle and reverse the other equally, the boat will simply rotate on its centerline axis. Cool, right? Now when you apply greater and lesser power to the respective throttles, you’ll pivot from the side that you’ve applied less power. Here’s an example; to pivot to port, use slightly less reverse power to your port engine, and slightly more forward power to your starboard engine. If you want to pivot to starboard, just do the opposite.

Slow is the way to go!

A catamaran can be operated at very slow speeds. The reason is that you don’t need to create a flow over the rudders in order to turn. That’s why seasoned catamaran owners know that “Slow is the way to go.”

Back into a Slip

The good news is that backing into a slip is easier with a catamaran than a monohull. That’s because there are twin counter-rotating propellers that don’t create prop walk - the pull to one side when a single screw boat is in reverse. To back into a slip you only need to pull up until perpendicular with the slip, pivot the boat with the engines (as described above) then use both in reverse. You can adjust as you back up if there’s wind or current to deal with.

Docking and departure

Coming alongside or departing from a dock is also easy to master. With a properly placed spring line and fenders, combined with careful use of the throttles, you can bring your catamaran neatly alongside even a crowded dock. For instance, when leaving a portside tie-up with boats both fore and aft, place a fender on your port quarter. Then put the starboard engine in reverse until the bows pivot out, clearing the boat ahead. Then drive forward, first with the port, then with both engines.

Don’t expect to coast

Catamarans don’t coast well. The reason for this is that they don’t have a deep keel to track. So, trying to coast to a dock at a shallow angle, then going into reverse and using prop walk to move your stern in, won’t work like it does on a monohull boat.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

catamaran hammock

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

catamaran hammock

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

catamaran hammock

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

catamaran hammock

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks.
