Discover the best yacht clubs in the world

Published 15 November 2023

Renowned for their historic sailing traditions, stunning locations and exclusive membership, the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world offer a unique social hub for like-minded yachting enthusiasts to enjoy. As social venues go, the worlds these clubs inhabit have the upper hand, particularly during some of their regattas. Burgess takes a look behind the scenes at some of the best yacht clubs in the world.

What is a yacht club: history.

Founded in 1720, the Royal Cork Yacht Club was a forerunner and became the first formally established yacht club in the world. Before this time, yachts were typically owned by royalty, but as non-royals began to purchase or build their own yachts to sail and race, clubs began to form to aid in the organisation of such races and regattas.

Then, and now, few institutions compete with the exclusivity and prestige of a yacht club. Whether founded by a prince, boasting a rich history and tradition, or as a recent addition to the most highly ranked yacht clubs in the world, being an esteemed member of any of these yacht clubs is the pinnacle of yachting for many. The majority of the clubhouses are located in iconic seaside settings (or in major cities, as is the case for the New York Yacht Club) and have world-class amenities. Upholding sailing traditions to this day, every yacht club will organise regattas and racing, and a few have also become training centres for young sailors.

Members can also benefit from club facilities which can include anything from grand and stately rooms for entertaining and socialising in, to swimming pools, concierge services, high-end restaurants, and, most importantly, a yachting community to socialise and network with. With all this typically comes a high joining and membership fee and a rigorous application process, including recommendations and meticulous screening, meaning that the resulting membership pool are a close-knit community of generally like-minded people.

What to wear to a yacht club?

Remaining traditional, most yacht clubs have specific guidelines for dress code inside their clubs. Depending on the time of day or event, the dress code for men is usually collared shirts or polos rather than t-shirts, with trousers rather than shorts and closed-toe shoes. Ties are not usually required for lunch, and, given the locations of most of the clubs, light colours and light fabrics are also advisable.

For ladies, tops should not be strappy or too casual, while skirts or dresses should be a suitable length. Trousers for ladies are also acceptable at most clubs, while footwear of any style, other than trainers or flip flops, are allowed. Hats of any sort are usually also forbidden inside.

The best yacht clubs in the world

There are thousands of yacht clubs in the world but only a handful are considered to be elite . Whether famed for their historic sailing traditions, their sumptuous settings or their excellent facilities, one thing all of our selected yacht clubs have in common is their exclusive and respected membership.

The Royal Yacht Squadron

Not quite the world’s oldest club, but one of the most famous of the historic ones, the Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS) was established in 1815. Originally set up as a local club by 42 original members with an interest in yachting, its royal association began just two years after its founding when the Prince Regent, later King George IV, became a member. Later on, when he acceded to become King, it was then renamed the Royal Yacht Squadron and its clubhouse is Cowes Castle on the Isle of Wight, UK.

The club has always attracted famous and illustrious members. As well as George IV, Nelson’s Captain at Trafalgar Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy was a founder member, and later the explorer Robert Falcon Scott (Scott of the Antarctic). These famous members and royal associations secured its reputation as one of the most influential yachting establishments. It was RYS’s commodore who originally challenged the New York Yacht Club and their racing yacht America to a round-the-island race in 1851 – a contest now known as the America’s Cup (see NYYC below). The RYS also initiated the regatta racing rule which mandates racing yachts to give way to the vessel on the starboard tack (a rule which must have saved countless accidents since its inception).

Today the club hosts several regattas, the most famous of which is Cowes Week. There are just over 500 members of the Royal Yacht Squadron, 75 of whom are Naval members and 60 of whom are Honorary members.  Only British yacht club members are permitted to fly the White Ensign on their yachts – a unique privilege for Squadron members only those dates back to 1829 when it was gifted to them by King William, who was himself a member. Membership to the club is by recommendation from existing members and subject to a secret ballot.

New York Yacht Club

The New York Yacht Club (NYYC) was established in 1844 by John Cox Stevens. He was the owner of the schooner America, with which he triumphed against a fleet of British yachts in 1851 in what became the prequel to the America’s Cup race named after his vessel. Between 1857 and 1983 the NYYC then successfully defended the cup a further 25 times, before eventually losing it to the Royal Perth Yacht Club’s yacht AUSTRALIA II. This was and still is the longest winning streak (in terms of years) in any sport.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

From transatlantic victories to its famous ‘cruises’, the club has been a founder of many of yachting’s great firsts. Since losing the cup to Australia in 1983, the club has welcomed younger sailors to its two clubhouses: one in a stunning Beaux-Arts building in Manhattan and the other in a grander waterfront location in Newport, Rhode Island.  The former is a jacket and tie establishment, and the latter provides members with access to the ideal sailing conditions promised by the deep waters around Rhode Island. Today, the club’s burgee, which only club members are permitted to fly, is recognised the yachting world over.

Yacht Club de Monaco

Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, the Yacht Club de Monaco is a relatively new entrant to the scene which nevertheless holds a unique position in international yachting. Created from the old Société des Regates, its aim was to promote yachting within the Principality, and judging by the number of yachts which populate Monaco’s Port Hercule it has certainly succeeded. The Club is twinned with several clubs, including two of the world’s leading yacht clubs – the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona. Members are therefore able to participate in sporting activities held between clubs and access each other’s clubhouse and facilities.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

The Yacht Club de Monaco’s major focus is racing, but the social scene is not far behind. This is a club with such an exclusive members’ list that although it is the place to be seen, the members remain discreet. His Royal Highness, Prince Sovereign Albert II, has been Club President since 1984 and is also responsible for the clubhouse that opened in 2014.

Located at the heart of the Principality overlooking Port Hercules, the futuristic-styled Norman Foster designed building resembles a yacht with a series of deck-like terraces, all offering spectacular views over the Mediterranean. A fantastic venue for socialising and entertaining with all manner of events for the yachting community, including exclusive parties and events throughout the Monaco Yacht Show , the clubhouse is also home to the 1909 Restaurant, the Sunrise Restaurant, the Aquarama Riva Bar, Observatory Deck, and the Ballroom. Members also have access to a large outdoor swimming pool and lounge deck area.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Membership is extremely limited and prospective candidates are rigorously vetted. Applications must be supported by two existing members and if successful, they are welcomed with a party and dinner in their honour. Given its exclusive nature, a formal dress code for day and evening wear is mandatory for all.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

Founded in 1967 by HH the Aga Khan, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) is one of the leading yacht clubs in the Mediterranean. Amongst the world’s most eminent yachting destinations, Sardinia’s Porto Cervo and the surrounding waters are the club’s main draw. This coastline provides ideal conditions for sailing and as a result the club hosts some of the world’s most prestigious regattas, including the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the Rolex Swan Cup, and the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Aside from its impressive racing calendar, the YCCS has become one of the most luxurious locations for superyachts throughout the summer season. With an impressive social scene, the clubhouse literally buzzes with high-profile members stepping ashore from their yachts to enjoy its many amenities. The clubhouse itself also offers a panoramic pool terrace, al fresco dining, a wellness centre and spa, and a member’s lounge and bar, while also located within walking distance is the Pevero Golf Club and Cala Granu Beach.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Membership is strict, with a new member having to be proposed by two current members. A Club Uniform is available for YCCS members and must be worn if participating in certain events when members are officially representing the Club. Evening attire also requires the typical clubhouse attire, with long trousers and a shirt (no t-shirts) and closed shoes for men, while ladies must wear a suitable length skirt or trousers.  Along with the Yacht Club de Monaco, the YCCS is twinned with the prestigious New York Yacht Club and the Royal Yacht Squadron.

St Francis Yacht Club

The St Francis Yacht Club (StFYC) is one of the world’s most prestigious sailing clubs. It is also one of the oldest American yacht clubs, having been founded in 1927 when a few members from the San Francisco Yacht Club decided to move their clubhouse from Sausalito to Belvedere.

Today, the Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse affords dazzling views over the San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the infamous Alcatraz. More importantly, it provides access to some of the most spectacular sailing waters in the world, with berthing on the shores of San Francisco Bay and access to the private Tinsley Island in the Sacramento Delta.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

St Francis Yacht Club members enjoy a busy schedule of racing events, including the Rolex Big Boat Series. The Club also hosts a series of social events within its clubhouse dining and multiple event spaces. The dress code for social engagements is formal, with clubhouse attire post 6pm requiring jackets for men and the equivalent evening dress for ladies. Membership to the club is by invitation only, with nominations sponsored by between one and three existing members based on the level of membership required.

Dubai Marina Yacht Club

It may not hold the historic prestige of the other yacht clubs featured here, but what the Dubai Marina Yacht Club lacks in history it certainly makes up for in facilities and luxury. Located in the heart of New Dubai, the Club is one of the largest yacht clubs in the world, encompassing five marinas located along the Persian Gulf coastline. Enveloped by soaring skyscrapers on either side, the Club House Marina lies at the heart of the Dubai Marina Yacht Club, while the West Bay Marina is perfectly located for ease of access to the sea.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

East Marina and the Marina Promenade offer an array of restaurants and shopping arcades, and the Marina Mall is the entertainment and retail hub. Member lounges are spread across the facility, including the Aquara Lounge and the Yots Sports lounge.  Amenities across all marinas include several member lounges and a 24/7 concierge service. Being a Dubai Marina Yacht Club member allows for berthing perks, a 24/7 concierge service, access to water taxis, pools, and gyms, and invites to yachting events dedicated to showcasing the region’s geography and culture.

Grand Bahama Yacht Club

With its easily navigated deep-water marina on the island of Grand Bahama, the Grand Bahama Yacht Club in Freeport is one of the most prominent marinas in the Caribbean. Welcoming large yachts to its convenient location just to the north of The Bahamas archipelago, the Club is a designated Bahamas Port of Entry and often the first port-of-call in The Bahamas for yachts coming from Florida.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Membership of the Grand Bahama Yacht Club includes access to the turn-of-the-century modern clubhouse with its European architecture and lush tropical landscaping. It also has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and 24/7 security.

Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

Founded in 1944, The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) has become Australia’s most prestigious yacht club. Host to the famous Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, the club has world-class facilities for both the sailing elite and its members, who also enjoy access to the club’s comprehensive sailing programme.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Nestled along the Rushcutters Bay foreshore, the modern clubhouse enjoys stunning harbour views, a large 213-berth marina, function rooms, and other clubhouse amenities including a bar and lounge. Membership to the CYCA is on a referral basis.

Barbados Yacht Club

The Barbados Yacht Club is located on Carlisle Bay and as such it provides access to stunning beaches and ideal sailing conditions that the Caribbean is known for. From the beach bar to tennis to a host of sailing programmes, members benefit from a wide array of both sailing and social activities.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Like many of the other clubs in this list, the Barbados Yacht Club hosts a variety of regattas, including the Mount Gay Rum Barbados Regatta along with recreational activities like tennis and sailing programmes, while the clubhouse also has a restaurant and bar for socialising. Membership to the Barbados Yacht Club is through a monthly ballot and is based on sailing performance.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Ten of the The World’s Most Exclusive Yacht Clubs and Their Allure

The world of yachting has always been synonymous with luxury, elegance, and exclusivity. For centuries, yachting has represented a blend of adventure, exploration, and the epitome of high-end leisure. It’s no surprise, then, that yacht clubs, as the custodians of this maritime culture, mirror these very ideals. Delving into the annals of history and the layers of exclusivity that shroud the world’s most luxurious yacht clubs, we find a narrative rich with tradition, privilege, and unparalleled grandeur.

Sailing Through Time

The genesis of yacht clubs can be traced back to the 18th century. Initially formed as social gatherings among the elite, these clubs quickly evolved to become hubs for competitive racing and luxury leisure. Over time, as sailing transitioned from a means of commerce and warfare to one of recreation, yacht clubs flourished, championing the spirit of maritime sportsmanship and camaraderie.

In these early days, yacht clubs became symbols of prestige. Membership was often an indication of one’s social and economic status. It wasn’t just about owning a vessel, but about being part of a select community that celebrated the finer things in life.

The Gilded Gates of Exclusivity

The exclusivity of yacht clubs is a multifaceted tapestry. Historically, these institutions were the playgrounds of royalty, aristocrats, and magnates. They were spaces where the world’s elite congregated, discussed their ventures, and set off on maritime adventures.

Over time, the criteria for membership at the world’s most exclusive yacht clubs have expanded beyond lineage or wealth. Today, legacy, contribution to the maritime world, and a genuine passion for sailing can also play pivotal roles in gaining entry into these esteemed institutions.

Yet, the essence of exclusivity remains. Many of these clubs are located in some of the world’s most breathtaking locales, offering facilities and amenities that are nothing short of opulent. From private marinas and bespoke sailing events to gourmet dining and luxury accommodations, these institutions offer an experience that is unrivaled.

The Legacy Lives On

While the world has undergone tremendous change, the allure of yacht clubs remains timeless. They stand as testaments to humanity’s enduring love affair with the sea. Beyond the luxury and exclusivity, they embody a tradition that celebrates the spirit of exploration, the thrill of competition, and the joy of camaraderie.

These Are The Most Exclusive Yacht Clubs Around The World

Scoring a membership at one of these best and most expensive yacht clubs in the world won’t only allow you the best spot to anchor your yachts; you also gain access to incredible amenities.

As an organisation, it primarily serves as a social hub for high-flying individuals that have a proclivity for the nautical. The aforementioned facilities may be one of its biggest selling points, but there are also other perks that make the hefty initiation fee ultimately worth it. Yachties are often entitled to gorgeous marinas, stately dining rooms , and even private, members-only parties.

However, affluence isn’t the only factor that the most exclusive and expensive yacht clubs take into account. To gain entrance to this yachting utopia, one has to apply for it. Some venues even go as far as requiring a referral from current members to ensure their exclusivity. Others may require you to hunt down senior members’ signatures for you to even be considered. Your application is then to be reviewed by the general committee. If you are approved, the following step would be an interview. If all goes right, you will be granted entrance into the yacht club. Otherwise, you may need to wait a few months before you can reapply.

As the rigorous application process suggests, they are extremely discerning when it comes to permitting entry to this sanctuary. When vetting a potential club member, ensuring the exclusivity of the club is of utmost importance to the general committee.

Set Sail: 10 Most Exclusive Yacht Clubs In The World

BY Pilar Gonzalez

These exclusive clubs offer a prestigious sailing experience unlike any other with stunning locations and luxury five-star amenities .

Besides fostering the art of yachting, yacht racing, and other recreational sea activities, yacht clubs serve another important purpose—to build a strong, close-knit community. This is especially true for more prestigious clubs that only offer memberships to select individuals.

High-end yacht clubs are exclusive precisely because of their hefty initiation fees and rigorous application processes. Some even go as far as to ask applicants to present recommendation forms from existing members or undergo meticulous screening. While this may seem a bit over the top, many believe that it’s well worth the investment.

After all, these clubs offer premium amenities set in breathtaking seaside locations, and also function as social hubs for those looking to expand their network. Some even host grand galas and fundraising events for members to support their communities.

While there’s a wide assortment of elite clubs out there, some truly stand out from the rest. Without further ado, below are 10 of the most highly-ranked yacht clubs in the world:

Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club

The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club often finds itself at the very top of many lists, and for good reason. It’s one of the most exclusive clubs in the world, given its idyllic location at a famous sailing station in the gulf and the Middle East—which offers a breathtaking view of Break Water beach.

Water sports at Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club

What makes the club even more unique is how it honors traditional water sports like dhow sailing, and more contemporary ones like modern rowing and speed boating.

St. Francis Yacht Club

The St.Francis Yacht Club has held the number one spot among Platinum Clubs® of America for years , and remains there even in the 2023 to 2024 rankings . Besides worldwide prestige, it also carries an impressive history as one of the oldest American yacht clubs, having been founded in 1927.

St. Francis Yacht Club clubhouse

While its Mediterranean Revival-style clubhouse is located on the glimmering shores of San Francisco bay, members can also enjoy access to the private Tinsley Island in the Sacramento Delta. It’s known for hosting the Rolex Big Boat Series—one of the premier regattas of the west coast, where members can take part in thrilling races and one-of-a-kind shoreside activities.

Grosse Pointe Yacht Club

Much like the St.Francis Yacht Club, the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club (GPYC) in Michigan is among the top three Platinum Clubs® of America. GYPC’s harbor is situated in Lake St. Clair and features 261 boat slips in a certified clean Marina. It also has a world-class staff that’s ready to provide exceptional 24/7 service for all its members.

The highly-acclaimed institution offers a grand clubhouse with a ballroom, three dining rooms, and meeting rooms—among other luxe amenities.

Grosse Point Yacht Club clubhouse

Its main dining room and “The Spinnaker” room offer fine dining experiences for a variety of occasions, be it with family or significant others. Meanwhile, its Grog Shop is the perfect spot for drinks and snacks.

Barbados Yacht Club

Located on Carlisle Bay, just south of Barbados’ capital city Bridgetown, is the Barbados Yacht Club . One can understand why the club became so popular, since it provides full access to the amazing beaches, calm waters, and steady winds that the Caribbean island is known for.

Sailing with the Barbados Yacht Club

Members can enjoy drinks at the Beach Bar, buffet lunches, and even live music on the last Friday of every month. They also have access to the club’s tennis courts and library.

Besides hosting a variety of sailing programs, the club holds a number of regattas like their Harris Paints Regatta and the Mount Gay Rum Barbados Regatta.

Club Nàutic Porto Cristo

Spanish waters are some of the most beautiful in the world, which is exactly why Club Nàutic Porto Cristo has become the go-to exclusive yacht club in Spain. Situated in the east coast of Mallorca, the club was founded in 1969 by Mr. Joan Servera Amer.

Throughout its history, the institution has undergone a number of changes and renovations to transform it into the luxurious club it is today.

Sailing in Club Nautic Porto Cristo

Like many of the other clubs in this list, Club Nàutic Porto Cristo hosts a variety of regattas along with recreational activities like fishing, kayaking, and paddle surfing. Those with a love for nature might also appreciate the club’s dedication to protecting its natural surroundings.

Cruising Yacht Club of Australia

The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is the country’s most prestigious yacht club, as it’s home to one of the best yachting competitions in the world—the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

Race 12 of Cruising Yacht Club of Australia Income Asset Management Wednesday Twilight Series

Located along the Rushcutters Bay foreshore, CYCA provides top-tier benefits to its members. Among these is access to one of Australia’s most comprehensive sailing programs, a 213-berth Marina, function rooms with skyline and harbor views, and a members’ bar offering choice liquors, to name a few.

Dubai Marina Yacht Club

Dubai is known to be a city of grandeur and luxury, and this is perfectly exemplified by its Dubai Marina Yacht Club . Nestled in the heart of “new Dubai,” its marinas have won the 5 Gold Anchor award for their world-class services, facilities, and prime locations.

Setting sail at the Dubai Marina Yacht Club

By day, the club is a boater’s haven, and by evening it also serves as a glamorous nightlife center. Its East Marina offers a generous berth, as well as an array of restaurants, cafés, and lounges. Meanwhile the club’s West Bay Marina boasts luxury amenities near the open sea.

Grand Bahama Yacht Club

Known as one of the best ports in The Bahamas, the Grand Bahama Yacht Club offers complete amenities to ensure that its members’ needs are all attended to. Some of its premium facilities include an Olympic-sized swimming pool and elegant pool bar. The clubhouse is located in Freeport and is only a few minutes away from some of The Bahamas’ top restaurants, spas, fitness centers, shops, and local hospitals.

docks of the Grand Bahama Yacht Club

The club also offers a slew of exciting activities like a Jeep Beach Safari and a trip to Dolphin Cove to swim with—you guessed it—playful dolphins. Besides water sports like sailing, members can also take part in Big Game Fishing, tennis, and golf.

Kieler Yacht-Club

Another old and prestigious yachting institution is Germany’s Kieler Yacht-Club , which was first established as The Imperial Yacht Club in 1887. The club continues to maintain its long tradition of sailing, while cultivating a passion for the sport within younger generations. One of its main focuses is providing sail training for children, adolescents, and adults alike.

Kieler Yacht Club

Many of the members within this esteemed institution include World and European Champions and Olympic Medalists from different sailing classes. Its clubhouse was chosen as a venue for Olympic games, and even housed monarchs like the Spanish King Juan Carlos, Greece’s former King Constantine, and King Carl Gustav of Sweden.

In its current form, the Kieler Yacht Club has 21 rooms and suites, as well as the majestic function rooms “Kaiser’s Hall” and “Commodore’s Hall,” which are a part of the club’s respectable history.

Yacht Club de Monaco

Another distinguished yacht club is the Yacht Club de Monaco , established in 1953 by Prince Rainier and presided over by HSH Prince Sovereign Albert II since 1984. Situated in the gorgeous waters of Quai Louis II in Monaco, the club hosted its first regattas in 1862 under the encouragement of Prince Charles III.

Yacht Club de Monaco

The prominent institution offers a spacious, luxe, and sustainably-built clubhouse that incorporates Photovoltaic cells, solar thermal panels, and sea water cooling systems. It’s also an allied member of Yacht Club de France, with 16 twinned clubs and 67 reciprocal clubs in 35 countries—allowing members to enjoy access to the benefits and facilities of partner clubs like SN Genève in Switzerland and YC Costa Smeralda in Italy.

The World’s Most Beautiful Yacht Clubs

These waterfront landmarks define classic maritime style—and attract some of the most magnificent ships at sea.

Beautiful yacht clubs in New England

The glamour of these yacht clubs is matched only by their intriguing histories. From Sardinia to Singapore, Newport to the Bahamas, these high-style sailing outposts carry on the traditions of their founders (with the oldest dating back to the mid-19th century). Not a member? Here's a peek at the super exclusive spots.

New York Yacht Club

New York Yacht Club Model Room

New York Yacht Club—Harbour Court

New York Yacht Club

The New York Yacht Club acquired Harbour Court in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1987. The grand, Norman-style mansion was built in 1906 and sits on eight acres overlooking Brenton's Cove. The connection between the New York Yacht Club and Newport dates back to the club's founding in the mid-1800s, when the NYYC founders sailed from the Battery to Newport on their inaugural summer cruise.

Royal Yacht Squadron

Black tie and boat shoes are de rigueur for the happy few who crack the ranks of the ultra-exclusive, 200-year-old Royal Yacht Squadron , headquartered in a 16th-century castle in England's Isle of Wight. Today, it’s best known as the heart of the legendary Cowes Week regatta , when thousands of sailors and revelers alike gather to await the firing of the club’s brass cannons.

Detroit Yacht Club

In its heyday, Dodges and Fords were among the tony patrons of this 1920s Mediterranean Revival building. They danced in the grand timbered ballroom and did laps in the indoor pool, which was lined with iridescent, Detroit-made Pewabic Pottery tiles. But as the fortunes of the city declined, so, too, did membership and maintenance at the Detroit Yacht Club . But a turnaround began in 2011, returning much of the building’s original grandeur, as well as a younger, more diverse membership, many of whom live in what is now an equally resurgent downtown Detroit.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

American architect Peter Marino redesigned this glamorous Italian outpost in the early 2000s, turning it into a deeply seductive hub in keeping with the yachts that fill the marina every summer. But at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda , it’s not all Cristal and caviar. In 2017, alarmed by the ubiquity of pollutants in local waters, club leaders launched a strict code of conduct for eliminating single-use plastics and reducing energy consumption.

Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

Winner of a Singapore Institute of Architects Architectural Design Award for its modern incarnation (a former clubhouse was lost to a massive container terminal), Asia’s oldest yacht club is replete with cultural pride of place. Republic of Singapore Yacht Club is now marked by a soaring, serrated roofline that pays homage to the traditional buildings of the Minangkabau, an Indonesian ethnic group.

Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club

This 58-acre Jacksonville, Florida, estate was built in 1926 by chemicals pioneer Alfred I. duPont and his wife, Jessie Ball duPont. Located on the widest point of the St. John’s River and shaded by grand oak trees, the mansion was built as a sprawling home base for duPont’s favorite pastime, yachting (on his beloved Nenemoosha ), and quickly became an illustrious meeting place for fellow industrial giants and heads of state of the day, including the Vanderbilts, Carnegies, and the Goulds. The building blends Gothic and Baroque architectural elements with a sprawling Spanish Renaissance form. Today, the romantic mansion has been completely restored and serves as home to the Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club .

Lyford Cay Club

Slim Aarons photographed the Lyford Cay Club in 1975, and the uber-exclusive Bahamian landmark hasn't lost an ounce of its allure since. Past the 74-slip yacht harbor and white-sand beaches is an impeccably decorated clubhouse famously overhauled in the early 2000s by Tom Scheerer. The nearly 20-foot tall painted palms in the drawing room (seen at left) have become iconic symbols of the billionaires' outpost. For more photos, check out this story published by Town & Country .

Yacht Club de Monaco

This French Riviera hotspot is as much a maritime playground as it is a proper yacht club. Reimagined by architects Foster + Partners in 2014, Yacht Club de Monaco is designed to resemble a ship, with "decks" offering expansive views of the Mediterranean and the Grand Prix race track. Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, it is now presided over by Prince Albert.

Most Exclusive Yacht Clubs In The World

Published on September 24th, 2020 by Editor -->

Forgive our sense of humor, but we can’t not be amused at how the outside media portrays the boating community. They so badly want to maintain the elusive and high-class aura, perhaps to attract internet traffic for a look over the ivy-clad walls. Here’s the take from Jim Dobson, Senior Contributor for Forbes.com:

The rich and famous are not merely looking for the best place to anchor their yachts; they are also seeking out exclusive memberships in stunning destinations, all offering luxury amenities and, of course, bragging rights.

These exclusive yachting clubs with often outrageous initiation fees, provide luxurious clubhouses, and provide accommodations for yachties who want to get their land legs. Most of them provide high-end concierge service to its members as well as Michelin-star quality restaurants and more.

Yacht Clubs have been recognized in the Platinum Clubs of America elections for more than 20 years. According to the Platinum Club, “Recognition in the following categories is important in the selection of Platinum status; Tradition, history, and heritage, a respected membership, excellence in amenities, exceptional service, adapting to changing times, and overall experience.

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

I spoke with the President of Club Leaders Forum, David V. Smith, about the selection, and he says, “We created an alphabetical selection this time as opposed to by rank because we felt that it was challenging to compare a yacht club in Ireland with a yacht club in Singapore, as amenities, location and facilities do vary quite a lot.

“The yachting and boating world is a different and unique culture, typically a little more relaxed and not as formal as country clubs and golf clubs. However, many of the world’s finest yacht clubs have wonderful history and traditions, with a great sense of camaraderie among their members.

“Certain yacht clubs were selected by the Panel not necessarily for their facilities and amenities but in their recognition of hosting world class sailing regattas and events.”

Here are the top 50 most exclusive yacht clubs worldwide being awarded the ultimate Platinum Status for 2021… click here .

The best superyacht beach clubs in the world

Tatiana's multi-level beach club.

Impressive and luxurious, the 80 metre Tatiana was delivered in 2021 by Bilgin Yachts and features a multi-level beach club spanning a total of 110-square metres. One of the yacht’s main attractions, the beach club is directly connected to the main saloon via a dramatic staircase and features two pools. They sit one above the other, one on the upper level and the other on the lower deck right next to the water’s edge.

More about this yacht

Aquijo's sailing yacht beach club.

It’s not often that you find a beach club on a sailing yacht, but then again Aquijo is no ordinary sailing yacht. As the world’s largest ketch , she has more than enough room to accommodate a spacious beach club, complete with a hammam, sauna and a spectacular spa pool that is illuminated by a large skylight. As if all that wasn’t impressive enough, the watertight aft doors mean that Aquijo ’s beach club can still be used when she’s sailing along at her brisk top speed of 20 knots.

Yachts for charter

Dream's 42 square metre dive centre.

A superyacht as big as the breathtaking 106.5 metre Dream needs a beach club to match. In fact, having easy access to the sea for swimming, diving and watersports was one of the key demands of owner George J Prokopiou during the yacht's extensive conversion. The result is no usual beach club. As well as a dive store and space to keep rugged tenders and the overhead cranes to launch them, there is a 42-square-metre, 12-tonne stern door that opens on to the sea.

Calypso's welcoming beach club

A superyacht beach club is more than the place to swim and splash around. Offering bars, lounges and spa access, the best superyacht beach clubs are all-round waterfront entertaining venues that are a must-have on any luxury yacht.

First impressions are everything. And stepping onto the larger-than-average 15 square metre beach club on board the 36 metre Mulder ThirtySix superyacht Calypso is sure to achieve just that . Designed to be welcoming, the beach club is perfectly equipped to relieve the weary traveller with a basin and towels to freshen up as soon as you come on board.

O'Ptasia's all-weather beach club

At 85 metres O'Ptasia is certainly spectacular, but there's more to her than sheer size. Her all-weather beach club will impress even the most discerning charter guests, with discreet sliding glass doors that keep the temperature of the beach club cool, even on a hot day. Inside, there's a bar fitted with a juicer for freshly squeezed orange juice and smoothies served to your sunbed, as well as a white marble steam room inspired by Turkish hammams. Plus,  O'Ptasia 's generous swim platform has a additional section that raises and lowers for easy access to the sea.

Yachts for sale

Go's open plan beach club.

With a bright turquoise hull, 77 metre Go certainly stands out from the crowd. Launched in 2018, this flagship from Turquoise Yachts features a 162 metre square beach club that opens on three sides to provide guests direct access to the sea. Inside, there's a onyx bar, 100 inch TV, massage room and steam room. Locating the tender garage amidships allowed for such a vast area, which was a real selling point for the owner.

Harmony's technical store-turned-beach club

A refit in 2017 added three metres to the length Amels ' 55 metre Harmony , allowing her owners to turn a tired technical store into a luxurious teak-clad beach club. The space is a Scandinavian-feeling haven, complete with a wet bar and massage area, plus hammam, shower and dive store. The new stern gives a grand first impression for those stepping off tenders, with a pair of illuminated staircases sweeping down from the main deck. Plus, a lowerable swim platform with steps that descend into the water lets swimmers take a carefree dive into the sea and climb back on board easily.

Aquila's refitted beach club

The largest British refit project to date, Aquila (ex- Cakewalk ) was completely updated and relaunched at Pendennis in 2016. Her beach club was one of the key areas to receive a makeover, with a skylight added to bring more light into this waterside chill-out spot. What's more, the tender garage access was moved to the starboard stairwell, meaning that crewmembers no longer have to interrupt proceedings when the time comes to launch her array of superyacht water toys .

Chopi Chopi's spa adjacent beach club

CRN's 80 metre Chopi Chopi balances formidable size with custom luxury living. Take, for instance, her massive beach club that starts indoors and flows out to an ample swim platform, creating one huge space that is equally well suited for sunning or evening entertaining. But the beach club on Chopi Chopi is so much more; it's actually the entrance to the superyacht's spa facilities, with a sauna, massage room and hammam all adjoining. Warm up in the sauna, then cool down with a refreshing dip in the sea.

Lady Candy's indoor lounge beach club

Benetti's 56 metre superyacht Lady Candy benefits from her unusual yet practical layout, which can be seen in her indoor beach club lounge. While the superyacht also has an outdoor space for soaking up rays and taking a dip, the real focal point of her beach club is the part tucked away from the sun. The enclosed aft beach club has comfortable seats, and portholes at the water level to give guests a great view of the passing ocean, while a gym is set to starboard. An indoor stairway connecting the beach club to the deck above allows the space to be used even in inclement weather, and with its own bar, it makes a great party spot when moored up.

10 of the best hotel pools in the US

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Is there anything better in life than spending a lazy day lounging in the sun by a pool? Probably not, unless your idea of the perfect pool day is floating in a larger-than-life lazy river or chasing your kiddos around a pool with a kid-friendly splash pad or wave pool.

Whatever your version of an ideal pool day is, it all starts with the swimming pool. Thankfully, here in the U.S., we have more incredible hotel pools than we could ever possibly write about.

That said, we have gathered a handful of our favorites from sea to shining sea. These include pools with knockout views you have to see to believe, ones with incredible cabanas and others that are just so fun and functional that you’ll never want to leave.

From the Las Vegas Strip to the theme parks of Orlando and everywhere in between, here are some of the best hotel pools in the U.S. to consider for your next trip.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Beach Club Resort

In Orlando , there’s no shortage of activities — and there’s certainly no shortage of pools.

One of the best in Orlando (and the country) can be found on the grounds of Disney World, shared between two Disney resorts: Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club. Called Stormalong Bay, this 3-acre pool complex is basically a water park complete with a trio of leisure pools (including a sand-bottom pool), a 230-foot-long waterslide, a lazy river and an elevated tanning area.

How to book: At two of the more expensive properties at Walt Disney World, rates easily reach over $500 a night. However, with the help of a free Disney vacation planner , you might be able to find a better deal.

Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia at Comcast Center

When we think about incredible pools, our minds don’t usually go straight to  indoor pools — unless you’re familiar with the luxe Four Seasons Philadelphia. On the 57th floor of the downtown Philly hotel, the 30,000-gallon infinity-edge pool is reserved exclusively for hotel guests and boasts some of the most incredible views of the city, all seen from the comfort of heated water.

It’s open all year long, so hotel guests can take in those stunning views or sit back with a healthy bento box meal delivered to their lounge chair even while it’s snowing outside.

How to book:  Though we’re hoping it’ll happen someday, Four Seasons still doesn’t have a loyalty program. Cash rates at the Four Seasons Philadelphia can be found from $1,000 a night during peak summer months. There is some good news, however: Four Seasons is a member of American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts , a program for holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express (and other Centurion- and Platinum-branded cards), that offers complimentary breakfast, guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout, upgrades and a $100 spa credit.

JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

Everything’s bigger in Texas — and that’s exactly the case at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa.

There, guests will find more water action than at most resorts, including a 9-acre water park with multiple waterslides, a 1,100-foot lazy river, a kids pool with a zero-depth beach entry, an activity pool and even an adults-only pool. So, whatever your preferred vacation style, everyone who visits this Marriott Bonvoy-associated resort can find the perfect pool to beat the intense heat of Texas Hill Country.

Related: The best Marriott hotels in the world

How to book:  Cash rates at this JW Marriott start as low as $290 a night, though you’ll likely find more availability closer to $400 and above, with rates soaring to over $1,000 during peak travel periods. Marriott Bonvoy award nights start at 43,000 points a night, and if you act fast, there is still reward night availability for July and August.

Right now, with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card, you could earn 75,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points after using your card to spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first six months; plus, earn 50,000 bonus points after you stay six eligible paid nights at Marriott hotels through Jan. 31, 2024.

Resorts World Las Vegas

In Sin City, choosing a hotel based on its pool is an overwhelming experience because there are just so many great options.

Those trying to trade in some points for a stay at a property with one of those pools should look no further than Hilton’s Resorts World . It’s home to three different hotels in one massive complex: the Las Vegas Hilton, the Conrad Las Vegas and the luxury-focused Crockfords Las Vegas.

Related: The best hotel pools in Las Vegas

At the property’s 5 1/2-acre pool complex, located outside on the fifth floor, guests will find a handful of different pools to experience. That includes the large Main Pool, where guests can reserve daybeds with a dedicated server, side table, concierge, towel service and shade.

There’s also a Family Pool with rentable cabanas; the Bimini Pool with oversized games and activities; the Cabana Pool, where guests can rent cabanas with amenities like a television, refrigerator, coffee table and misting fan; and a VIP pool.

How to book:  Because there are three different Hilton Honors -associated hotels here, rates vary depending on where you want to stay. Rates at the Las Vegas Hilton start at $78 or 45,000-70,000 points per night. Rates at the Conrad can start at $95 or 39,000-80,000 points per night. Rates at Crockfords start at $259 or 88,000-95,000 points per night.

The West Hollywood Edition

If you want to take in sweeping views of Hollywood Hills and the Los Angeles skyline, there’s no better place to do it than from the pool at the celebrity-friendly West Hollywood Edition.

High in the hills, the pool offers wooden lounge chairs and lush greenery throughout to complement the stunning California sunsets and sunrises that are a must to take in while visiting this Marriott Bonvoy property. For food and drink, The Roof offers pool guests a wide arrange of drinks, including “tropical-inspired cocktails with Southern California flair” and an extensive list of tequilas and mezcals.

How to book: Cash rates for the West Hollywood Edition, including access to its rooftop pool, start at $568 a night. For folks with Marriott Bonvoy points to blow, nightly redemptions start at 68,500 points.

Fairmont Kea Lani

It’s tough to imagine sitting by a pool in Hawaii when you’re surrounded by the beauty of the ocean. However, at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui, it’s really not that hard because there are plenty of incredible pools.

At this all-suite Fairmont, there are two lagoon pools joined by a 140-foot waterslide, two whirlpools and a kids pool with a basketball hoop. There’s also an adults-only pool tucked away from the others.

Guests can rent cabanas around the three different main pools with access to chilled water, juices and sodas with the reservation, plus complimentary snacks. All guests can enjoy lunch and cocktails from Ko Restaurant and Ama Bar & Grill, as well as grab water toys and free sunscreen at the Pool Pavilion.

How to book: Rates at the Fairmont Kea Lani, the only Accor Live Limitless property on Maui, start at $1,009 a night. Read a review of the property, as well as reviews of TPG’s other favorite Maui properties .

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa

When it comes to swimming pools, Disney knows what it’s doing — that’s why it’s got two entries on this list. This time, we’re looking at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, one of the most popular hotels in all of Hawaii, especially for folks traveling with family.

Called the Waikolohe Valley pool area, this resort has something for everyone: pools with ocean views, a kids pool and the main Waikolohe pool, and an 8,200-square-foot zero-entry pool with a waterslide in a volcano. Hotel guests can rent cabanas, dine poolside and forget the outside world while splashing and relaxing under the big Hawaii sky.

How to book:  Cash rates at this top-tier Disney property don’t come cheap and are usually upward of $569 a night.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Another contender from Las Vegas, the pools at The Cosmopolitan — a Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection property — are where people go to bake in the sun and the flashing lights of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Of the two pools, the Boulevard Pool reigns supreme with its fourth-floor location overlooking the Strip. Folks who head up to this pool deck can book cabanas with a server and complimentary fruit plate, or just opt for a daybed. The pool frequently features live entertainment and “dive-in” movies. However, you can always hit up the bar for a refreshing drink to cool down from the desert heat.

How to book: You can find cash rates at The Cosmopolitan for as low as $240 a night if you look hard and your dates are flexible. Vegas is famous for its fluctuating rates, though, so don’t be shocked if stays here cost upward of $500 a night on various weekends. The Cosmopolitan is also a Marriott Bonvoy resort with award availability starting at 75,000 points per night.

1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

There’s no skyline like the New York City skyline — and there’s really no better place to take it in than the rooftop pool at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.

Located in Brooklyn Heights near the trendy DUMBO neighborhood, this hotel is prime Brooklyn real estate. However, the real star of the show is the pool. It’s reserved for hotel guests, but reservations are required and limited to two-hour slots. Food and drinks are served from Harriet’s Rooftop, which stays open even after the pool closes at 7 p.m.

Related: The best hotels in New York City, from luxury stays to points properties

How to book:  Rates at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge vary throughout the year. In the busy summer months, rooms start around $400 a night during weekdays but can climb to over $600 on weekends.

The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa

Another resort with a pool area that doubles as a water park, the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale, Arizona, is the perfect place to take the kids (or kids at heart) to enjoy a day basking in the sun, splashing in the water and racking up some Marriott Bonvoy points along the way.

At Adventure Water Park, guests can ride a 110-foot waterslide, float along a lazy river or try a surfing simulator that feels more California than Arizona desert. You can rent a cabana to get a little shade or reserve a Tommy Bahama Relaxation Reef that’s basically a private island right in the middle of it all. If that’s just too much, the adults-only pool is the ideal spot for folks to relax without a child in sight.

How to book: In the very hot summer months, you can find rooms as low as $229. As the Phoenix area cools down in the fall, rates go up significantly, easily upward of $500 a night. Award nights can be found as low as 41,000 points per night and as high as 60,000 points per night.

SPONSORED:  With states reopening, enjoying a meal from a restaurant no longer just means curbside pickup.

And when you do spend on dining, you should use a credit card that will maximize your rewards and potentially even score special discounts. Thanks to temporary card bonuses and changes due to coronavirus, you may even be able to score a meal at your favorite restaurant for free.

These are the best credit cards for dining out, taking out, and ordering in to maximize every meal purchase.

Top 11 Americans who star in the EFL

top 10 yacht clubs in the world

Americans are having a profound impact in the EFL Championship and League One this season. With players dotted across the league hailing from the United States, many teams in the English second division are getting the most out of their talents. For example, Norwich and Coventry City are going back and forth trying to reach the promotion playoffs this season. American strikers have been instrumental in that success.

Elsewhere, Americans have had a role in midfield and defense with one goalkeeper coming from the United States. While it is not possible to form a hypothetical XI of Americans thriving in the EFL because of positional restraints, it is worth recognizing the best players from the USA in the lower tiers of English soccer. Some of these players may be due for an international call-up if they have not already received one from Gregg Berhalter.

The best Americans in the EFL

Ethan horvath (cardiff city).

Horvath has regularly taken a back seat to other American goalkeepers like Matt Turner or Zack Steffen. While those two have been on the squads for Premier League teams, Ethan Horvath has floated around the Championship. A move to Cardiff City in this season’s January transfer window gave Horvath a starting position.

He has cashed in by delivering the Welsh side five wins in his first 10 Championship appearances. That includes three clean sheets after a rocky beginning with the club. It is building on the success he had last season with Luton Town on loan. He was second in the Championship with 19 clean sheets as Luton secured promotion with Horvath in net.

Haji Wright (Coventry City)

Haji Wright has been making waves this season with Coventry City. Wright has scored 14 goals with Coventry City this season, which puts him in a tie for sixth with two players on the scoring charts in the Championship. That has propped Wright back into the USMNT’s Nations League squad , where Wright scored twice in the semifinal win over Jamaica.

Josh Sargent (Norwich City)

Joining Haji Wright in that tie for sixth is Josh Sargent. The Norwich City striker has been on blazing form of late. After returning from a four-month injury, Sargent has scored in 10 out of Norwich’s 16 games since then. With Sargent bagging so many goals, the Canaries climbed from 13th to sixth in the Championship.

Daryl Dike (West Bromwich Albion)

Among the Americans playing striker in the EFL Championship, Daryl Dike has the most unfortunate track record. Unable to battle back from injuries, Dike has missed extended time over the last two seasons. Dike scored in the FA Cup against Aldershot, but another Achilles injury canceled his season prematurely.

Reggie Cannon (QPR)

Reggie Cannon has always been a player on the cusp of developing into a regular USMNT squad member. The emergence of players like Sergiño Dest and Antonee Robinson has hindered that prospect. Regardless, consistent minutes this season with QPR are helping Cannon develop despite QPR floating around the bottom half of the table in the Championship.

Vaughn Covil (Hull City)

Vaughn Covil is a player to keep an eye on among the USMNT ranks. The 20-year-old winger is yet to play for Hull City this season outside of an appearance in the EFL Cup. Yet, he is garnering looks from US Soccer, as he was a part of the 2023 Pan American Games where the United States finished fourth.

Lynden Gooch (Stoke City)

A Swiss-Army knife type of player, Stoke City has used Lynden Gooch across the pitch. Right-back, left-wing, left-back and right-midfielder are some of the places Gooch has played this season. Stoke has been working to build a gap away from the relegation zone, and Gooch will play a role in that as the season nears its end.

Duane Holmes (Preston North End)

The 29-year-old Holmes has been a starter and a substitute in Preston’s strong campaign so far. Narrowly outside of the promotion playoff places, Holmes has given Preston four goals and four assists this season from the attacking midfield.

Matthew Hoppe (Middlesbrough)

Returning from a loan, Matthew Hoppe has not made the squad for Middlesbrough this season. At one time, Hoppe looked like one of the best American prospects during his time with Schalke. A couple of failed transfers curtailed that development, but Hoppe is still able to grow at the age of 23.

Donovan Pines (Barnsley)

Looking down into League One, Donovan Pines could be an option at center-back. The Barnsley defender moved from DC United to League One in January, and he has just four appearances with the club so far. Barnsley won three of the four and drew the other, and Pines scored in two of those games as a center-back.

Charlie Kelman (Wigan)

After failing to make headway with QPR this season, Wigan brought in Kelman on loan for the remainder of the season. Kelman made himself stand out with a goal and assist in his first three games with Wigan, but he has failed to turn in any other goal contributions after his January switch.

A recent report by real estate consultancy Knight Frank details how much money a person needs to possess to be considered part of the 1% of the richest people in their respective country—and the results differ significantly.

Despite China making big steps towards leadership in several business sectors and transforming its economy toward higher value-creating industries, being a millionaire was pretty much enough to place a person in the upper 1% of China's richest. Chinese resident with assets of just under $1.1 million were considered part of the 1% in 2023, according to the report. As recent as 2020 , even $850,000 would have been considered enough to be part of the 1% in China.

This chart shows the level of net worth needed to join the wealthiest 1% in selected countries in ... [+] 2023.

This is far from the case in other economies, for example notoriously wealthy Switzerland, where only those with a wealth of $8.5 million or more would be considered part of the 1%. In tiny and exclusive Monaco, one's net worth would have to have eight digits, as only $12.9 million is enough to join the 1% club in the European micronation. In the United States, this number stood at $5.8 million last year. Despite the 1% being considered ultra-rich, Knight Frank remarks that many of the world's 1% are not actually ultra-high-net-worth individuals with assets of over $30 million. At a global 1% population of 80 million people, the most obscenely rich people on the globe are therefore better qualified as the 0.1% or 0.01%, counting just 8 million people and 800,000 people, respectively.

While Knight Frank did not publish this numbers again for 2023, India in 2020 counted everyone who possessed the equivalent of $60,000 or more in the top 1% of the wealthiest residents. But this does not necessarily mean that India is more egalitarian when it comes to wealth distribution. With a population of around 1.4 billion people, India's 1% is still 14 million people strong. This means extreme wealth concentrates in the wealthiest 0.1% rather than the richest 1%, making the division of wealth even starker. A recent report on the country details that on a per-adult, pre-tax basis, India's top 1% earned around 40% of the nation's income while almost 30% of that was attributable to just the 0.1%.

India's superrich eclipse rest of country

Despite the lower profile of India's 1% internationally, the group is still wealthier than its counterparts in the United States or European countries when comparing to the wealth of the rest of the nation. Credit Suisse found that in 2022 , India's 1% held around 40% of the country's wealth, compared to 34% in the United States and 36% in Sweden, for example. In China, the number stood at 31%.

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

In Germany, France and the United Kingdom, residents needed a little over $3 million to their name in 2023 to be considered part of the 1%. Looking at the 1%'s wealth share in those places, the group held 30% in Germany, but just 21% in the other two countries, showing some differences in relative inequality. Japan meanwhile comes across as a little more egalitarian, with $2 million in assets being the entry ticket to the 1% club and the group holding 19% of wealth.
