Or, if a little rain doesn’t bother you, opt for a vessel that has plenty of cabin/covered space for you and your guests.

How many people can fit on a party yacht?

Most of our private yachts are designed to legally carry a maximum of 12 people. This is because a yacht which carries more than 12 people it is considered a 'Passenger ship' and must comply with extensive SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations.

Can you have more than 12 guests on a yacht?

At Boataffair, we do not typically rent out boats for more than 12 people. This is due to Boataffair’s focus on private, premier yachting.

We don't operate as a mass-market service; instead, we reserve our boats for boutique experiences for families, groups of friends, and couples. This is why most of our yachts are limited to 12 people or less.

Additionally, many of our motor yachts are designed to legally carry no more than 12 people, and often overnight stays allow for a maximum of 8-10 people.

You’ll want to keep in mind how many people can fit on a yacht before you start building your guest list. But don't worry, you can have wonderful birthday parties on our yachts with less than 12 people!

Have questions before you embark on your adventure?

A Bareboat Agreement is a legal document between the owner or broker and the charterer that outlines the key information of your private yacht charter. It will detail the vessel information, date, time, pickup location, terms and conditions, insurance and cancellation.

A Captain and Crew Agreement is a legal document between the charterer, captain and crew member that the charterer chooses. It will outline the terms and conditions of the captain and crew for hire for your bareboat charter. 

Although not mandatory, it is customary to leave a gratuity for the work of the crew and the captain at the end of yacht rentals for birthdays . Standard gratuity is 15-20% of the charter fee. The captain will make sure gratuity is split with the crew.

In almost all cases, you are allowed to bring your own food and beverages for your party yacht rental. We ask that red wine, colored frosting or any kind of food that can stain stay on land. 

Chartering a yacht can make for an excellent family vacation, with activities to entertain both children and adults. In general the crew is not responsible for their safety. We recommend that you bring childcare if you want to truly relax and have a carefree time while ensuring your children are being looked after. Crew can assist in most ways however. If you have toddlers or infants when you rent a yacht for a party please let the captain or person handling your booking know so proper life jackets can be provided. Proper youth, toddler or infant life jackets are required.

Typically pets are not allowed aboard for health and safety reasons, and sea travel can be extremely uncomfortable for animals. If you need to be accompanied by your pet for any reason, we ask that you check with us for the yacht’s pet policy.

In general, smoking is not permitted inside or outside most yachts, and is strictly forbidden in any cabins or staterooms. Flames of any kind are prohibited inside, outside or on the swim platform. Burns from ashes happen very quickly on fiberglass, vinyl canvas or teak.

"There is no real organizer for the event," Boca Raton spokesman Mark Economou wrote in an email to Th e Palm Beach Post. "This is just something that happens the last Sunday of April."

What makes it a challenge for both the city and the neighboring The Boca Raton resort is that the event has no affiliation with either, so they can't do much about the planning.

“Keep in mind, ‘Boca Bash’ is NOT a city event, NOT a city-sponsored event,” Economou said in his email. 

Likewise, Elena Corsano, director of media and community relations for The Boca Raton on Lake Boca, told The Palm Beach Post that their leadership had no comments about their plans for the event, other than to remind people that the resort was not affiliated with the event in any capacity. 

"There is one person who runs the Facebook page we send our safety messages to that he shares on his page,” Economou wrote.

Aside from policing, Economou and Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer say they do their best to stay in contact with the party’s social-media pages. 

On Instagram, thebocabash has 10,900 followers. Attempts to reach the organizer on both social media platforms were not returned.

The Boca Bash began in 2007 as a birthday party on Lake Boca

The event originally started as a birthday bash for then-local Rockey Rossi, planned by his friends Brad Geisen and Scott McCure in 2007.

The city asked them to cancel the party, which allegedly included hiring the rock band Nickleback to perform. The plans garnered enough attention though, and despite their cancellation, drew dozens of boaters to the lake. 

“We just wanted to bring life back to Lake Boca,” Geisen told The Post in 2017 , adding that a decade after their first grand party, they kept their personal festivities far more low-key and never envisioned it gaining such traction.

“We won't take the boat out there during Boca Bash anymore,” Geisen said in 2017, instead opting to hang at McCure’s lakeside condo. 

But the Bash persists and seemingly grows bigger each year with social-media recap videos from 2023 showing scores of boats across the lake, partiers diving right in, dancing and soaking up sun.

During the past few years, about 8,000 boaters have ventured onto Lake Boca Raton, which is a body of water sandwiched between Palmetto Park Road to the north, East Camino Real to the south, The Boca Raton five-star resort to the west and a small strip of land to the east along the Atlantic Ocean.

The spot itself is still a popular hangout for boaters who want to enjoy a quiet weekend on the boat. But the last Sunday in April is anything but quiet.

“(Typical weekends) are very calm and much more family-oriented,” former Boca Raton resident Anthony Pollara said, describing the serenity of the lake when it’s not the landing spot for dozens upon dozens of partiers. “Lake Boca’s beautiful without all that.” 

Pollara, 52, said he attended the Bash one year and he described it, in a word, as insanity. 

“It’s pretty insane and very crowded,” he said, recalling lots of drinking, topless women and tons of arrests when he went. “Police are pretty strict and make a lot of arrests.”

Pollara isn't exaggerating.

The annual lake party has resulted in arrests and massive police patrols and in 2018, the death of a 32-year-old man man along with $45,000 spent on police presence and response to emergency calls.

To monitor the event, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Boca Raton Police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office all have a hand in patrolling.

“First and foremost, I want people to be safe,” Singer said. “There are plenty of ways to stay safe and still enjoy the water.” 

Singer encouraged Boca bashers to take the initiative with personal safety, but the city, as in previous years, is taking its own measures as well. Boca Raton police did not want to share their plans with The Post but said their concerns are the same as previous years — safe boating, making sure people aren't overcrowding their vessels and no boating under the influence. 

And Economou said the city knows all the tricks by now.

"We will also be patrolling area neighborhoods to deter boaters from cutting through yards to find a boat to hop on," he warned.

He added that several parks won't be open either Saturday or Sunday because of Boca Bash, including Silver Palm Park, Wild Flower Park and the Docks at Spanish River Park. 

“We have to limit access to the boat ramps in other waterfront areas just because of safety and the huge number of people coming,” Singer said.

Like water itself, Singer knows the Bash is coming and can't be stopped, but he just wants it to be incident-free.

“Be safe, be smart and people will have a better time,” Singer said.

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A young brother and sister died and several people were injured, some of them seriously, when a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver crashed into a young child’s birthday party Saturday at a boat club, a Michigan sheriff said.

An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother died at the scene in the crash, when a 66-year-old woman drove 25 feet (7.6 meters) into the building about 3 p.m. at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, about 30 miles (48.2 kilometers) south of Detroit, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said.

“The scene was described by the first responders as extremely chaotic, with high level of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident,” he said.

Three children and six adults were taken to area hospitals by two helicopters or ambulances with life-threatening injuries, he said. Others injured were given first aid at the scene and some were taken to hospitals by private vehicles.

Goodnough did not identify the woman driving the vehicle but said she was taken into custody and held at the Monroe County Jail suspected of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death. She was cooperating with authorities and likely would face more charges as the investigation continues, he said.

Authorities were notified the woman may have been at a nearby tavern before the incident, Goodnough said, adding they closed the establishment and planned to execute a search warrant there as part of the investigation.

Who is Marshella Chidester? Accused drunk driver's ties to boat club ran deep before crash

Berlin Township — A list of names and phone numbers is taped to the door of the Swan Boat Club, directing delivery drivers about whom to call if the club is empty.

Marshella Chidester's name is second on the list.

The 66-year-old Chidester's connection to the Swan Boat Club seemed pleasant before it turned tragic Saturday. The Monroe resident once served as the club's commodore, or top official, and for decades she's lived just few yards down a gravel road from the boat club that abuts Swan Creek, a canal off Lake Erie in the shadow of the Fermi 2 nuclear plant where Chidester worked in DTE Energy management before retiring nine years ago.

Prosecutors said Chidester was intoxicated at about 3 p.m. Saturday as she sped down the unpaved thoroughfare, Brancheau Road, past her waterfront home and drove her car through the boat club's wall during a children's birthday party. The impact killed siblings Alanah Phillips, 8, and Zayn Phillips, 4, and wounded at least 13 others, police said, including the Phillipses' mother and older brother.

The damage from the crash has been repaired by wood panels that are painted blue to match the surrounding wall. A collection of stuffed animals, crucifixes and other items are arranged outside the club.

Chidester's Facebook account shows sporadic posts about Swan Boat Club events, along with photos where she's wearing what appears to be a blue nautical uniform with stars on the sleeves. During 2017, Chidester was the Swan Boat Club's commodore — the principal officer who helps to determine the club’s direction, including usually setting the agenda for the year.

But during her Tuesday arraignment in Monroe County's 1st District Court, Chidester was dressed in a black-and-white striped uniform from the Monroe County Jail, where she was being held in lieu of $1.5 million bond.

Chidester was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing death and four counts of operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious injury. She faces up to life in prison if she's convicted.

Mariah Dodds, the mother of the two children who were killed, on Monday filed a lawsuit in Monroe County's 38th Circuit Court, naming Chidester and Verna's Tavern as defendants. The lawsuit alleges the bar is responsible for Chidester's actions because they continued serving her alcohol even after she was visibly drunk. Police said Chidester had left the bar when the accident occurred.

Bar officials have not responded to requests for comment. Bill Colovos, Chidester's attorney, told reporters after Tuesday's arraignment that a search warrant of Verna's Tavern found that his client had only consumed one glass of wine and a bowl of chili for lunch from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday. He said police were too quick to blame the bar and name them to the media when they "didn't do anything wrong."

"In 60 years on this earth, she’s never had any traffic involvement she’s never had any law enforcement involvement,” Colovos said. “It’s horrible what happened, absolutely horrible …, but some things we don’t have control over.”

He said Chidester drives “like a little old lady” and has a history since November of having epileptic-type seizures in her legs that result in paralysis. She was treated for it that day, he said.

Monroe County Prosecutor Jeffrey Yorkey said there was no evidence Chidester had a seizure the day of the crash. A “very long investigation,” including a breath test, indicated she was significantly over the legal limit, Yorkey said, but didn't specify the exact result.

When Chidester was arrested Saturday, police confiscated her driver’s license and issued a temporary paper license — known as a  625G permit , according to Michigan Secretary of State records. Michigan law says a driver’s license must be confiscated if a driver is intoxicated or refuses to perform a substance test. The permit doesn’t restrict driving privileges instantaneously; it remains in effect until the driver's case is resolved.

The Swan Boat Club has been closed since the accident. Phone calls to boat club officials were either not returned, or those who answered declined to comment.

Chidester lived in her house since 1985, according to real estate records, and she worked at the nearby Fermi 2 nuclear plant as a strategic buyer, according to her LinkedIn account. She left DTE nine years ago, company spokeswoman Lisa Bolla said in a Tuesday email.

"We’re devastated by the tragedy at the Swan Boat Club. Many of our DTE family live in the community and have children who are schoolmates of those who lost their life," Bolla said. "All of us at DTE join our neighbors, friends and community in mourning this tragedy. Our thoughts remain with the families affected and the first responders who rushed to the scene."

Michigan woman charged in boat club crash that killed 2 children released on bond

A Michigan woman facing eight charges stemming from a crash that killed two children at a boat club was released Thursday on a $1.5 million bond, according to the jail and her attorney.

Marshella Chidester, 66, is accused of slamming an SUV into the Swan Boat Club, where a birthday party was taking place on Saturday about 30 minutes southwest of Detroit. Two children died and over a dozen others were injured, with several still hospitalized.

The Newport, Michigan, woman was released two days after she was arraigned in Monroe County District Court on the charges, which include two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of driving while intoxicated, causing death.

Two siblings, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips, were killed. Their mother, Mariah Dodds and her 11-year-old son survived, though he's facing serious injuries including broken legs and ribs and a fractured skull.

Chidester suffers from 'epileptic type seizures,' attourney says

Bill Colovos, Chidester's attorney, argued in court that his client suffers from "epileptic-type seizures" in her legs and that she only had one glass of wine the day of the crash.

Upon Chidester's release Thursday, Colovos emphasized that a medical issue caused the crash, adding that his client suffers from neuropathy, "blacked out" from a seizure and is "very remorseful."

"She feels absolutely horrible. To black out, then all of the sudden be told that two young children were killed. Colovos told the Detroit Free Press , part of the USA TODAY Network. "It's like a bad dream you wake up from."

Chidester started having the seizures in November and a doctor told her to stop driving for two months, but did not restrict her further, Colovos said in court earlier this week.

Alcohol breath test exceeded legal limit, prosecutor says

Monroe County prosecutor Jeffery Yorkey said in court that a preliminary alcohol breath test was "significantly over the legal limit" but did not specify what the results were. Colovos said he is still waiting on a medical report that would determine his client's blood-alcohol level around the time of the crash.

"Believe me, I'm waiting for it," Colovos said.

Yorkey asked for the $1.5 million cash bond, pointing to what he says is a history of "severe substance abuse."

Judge Christian Horkey agreed to the bond and set conditions upon her release: Chidester is prohibited from consuming alcohol or any illegal substances and is not allowed to drive. She must undergo substance abuse testing and monitoring, which includes wearing a tether, Horkey said.

Mother sues nearby restaurant Chidester visited

Dodds filed a lawsuit against Chidester and the restaurant that police say Chidester was drinking at earlier in the day of the crash. The business temporarily closed after the crash due to the police investigation.

The lawsuit accuses Chidester of gross negligence, alleging she drove into the north wall of the boat club fast enough to enter about 25 feet inside the building until her car stopped. 

The lawsuit also accuses the restaurant of selling Chidester alcohol while she was visibly intoxicated.

Angie Huffman, who said her mother owns the restaurant, confirmed in an email to the Free Press that Chidester visited the restaurant at 11 a.m., saying she had one glass of wine and a bowl of soup. Huffman said she's confident the police investigation will show the restaurant is "not at fault."

Family receives over $224,000 in donations

A  GoFundMe for the family was linked at the club's website and raised over $224,000 as of Thursday. The funds will go toward funeral and burial costs, as well as future medical and other incurred expenses as the family mourns.

In an update Tuesday, the page said funeral service arrangements are on hold until the parents "are in a more stable condition for such decisions and planning."

Judge sets $1.5 million bond for woman charged in Monroe County boat club crash

A judge on Tuesday set a $1.5 million bond for a Newport woman charged with eight crimes related to the fatal crash at the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County.

Marshella Chidester stared forward blankly in Monroe County’s district court as Raquel Smouthers, in sobs, recalled the moment she told her sister Mariah Dodds in the hospital that Dodds’ two young children were killed. 

“I had to be the one to tell my sister her babies were gone when they removed her ventilator yesterday. She said: ‘How am I supposed to live without my babies?’ “ Smouthers said in comments permitted by the judge.

Chidester, 66, of Newport, is accused of driving drunk and plowing her SUV into a birthday party Saturday at the club in Newport. Chidester’s lawyer, Bill Colovos, argued that his client suffered seizures in her legs and only had one glass of wine that day. 

Dodds and three of her children were attending the party. Two of Dodds' children, 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and 4-year-old Zayn Phillips, were killed, and over a dozen other people were injured. Dodds and her 11-year-old son survived, but are still hospitalized. Both of the boy's legs and some ribs are broken and his skull is fractured.

In court, Chidester continued to look straight ahead as she sat in her striped jumpsuit and orange slippers, her right arm in a cast. She did not react when Judge Christian Horkey read the charges against her aloud: two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and four counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious injuries.

Monroe County Prosecutor Jeffery Yorkey asked for a $1.5 million cash bond, pointing to a history of "severe substance abuse" allegedly corroborated by friends and family of Chidester. Judge Horkey agreed to the bond.

Chidester’s arraignment on Tuesday was filled with tense moments as even more members of Dodds’ family and community members, some of whom attended the court hearing virtually on the web, interrupted Colovos, as he spoke on Chidester's behalf.  

Colovos compared the high bond to burning his client at the stake “by just craziness” and “crazy words.”

Horkey also ordered bond conditions should Chidester post bond, including alcohol testing, a tether, and she would be prohibited from drinking or driving. 

Chidester isn’t a monster, Colovos said. She lived a quiet, retired life with her husband right down the road from the club, he said.

Colovos’ theory, he argues, was that Chidester was invited to the birthday party that day and had a seizure on the way to the party. Chidester doesn’t remember what happened and “feels horrible,” he said. He noted that his client has a clean criminal record and no traffic violations. Colovos said they are waiting for tests to determine her blood alcohol levels.

Dodds’ loved ones and community members interrupted Colovos with statements, including “she was drunk.”

The children’s grandmother, Kathy Phillips, spoke as well.

“She took my grandbabies from us,” Phillips said. "She made that choice to go in that car, and she chose to drink and drive.”

The family's lives are destroyed, Smouthers said.

"Nobody should ever have to go to a birthday party thinking that they're gonna die," Smouthers said, who saw her deceased niece and nephew the last moment before the car was removed.

"It's a horrible, dramatic thing. I cannot close my eyes at night without seeing the babies and what they look like," she said.

Chidester had been an officer of the boat club, acting as a commodore for the group. Her mother was a charter member of the club, according to the mother's 2006 obituary. Chidester worked at DTE as a manager at Fermi 2, according to her LinkedIn page and the Monroe News. A spokesperson for the utility said she left that job nine years ago.

Childester’s next court appearances are scheduled for a probable cause conference April 30 and a preliminary examination on May 6.

Zayne, Alanah remembered

Hurt and pain reverberated throughout Horkey’s small Monroe County courtroom. For Nicholas Phillips, the deceased children’s uncle, “there is no justifying what she did to my family,” he said in court via video, referring to Chidester.

Alanah used to watch her dad play basketball, "but now that little girl is not gonna be able to go see it.”

And the child’s father is at the hospital praying that his older son makes it through, Phillips said.

“And he’s still gotta tell his son that he lost his sister and brother. How is that right or how is that even fair? How is it even justified?” Phillips said.

Zayn was about to turn 5.

“We were supposed to be planning a birthday party for Zayn, not a funeral,” Smouthers had said in court. Her own birthday was a few days prior and "the babies were just at my house."

Smouthers said her niece Alanah had "flawless curly hair" and loved to dance. Her nephew, Zayn hated how Smouthers' truck was always dirty, so she cleaned it just for him.

Zayn loved cracking jokes, Smouthers said. Eminem was his idol.

Lawsuit filed against Chidester, bar

On Monday, Dodds and her 11-year-old son, identified as “J.P.” filed a lawsuit against Chidester and Verna’s Tavern, where Chidester was allegedly seen drinking prior to the tragedy, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit accuses Chidester of gross negligence.

"Can you imagine anything worse than that as a human being, as a parent?" said Jon Marko, one of Dodds' attorneys.

The lawsuit argues that Verna's Tavern is also liable. The bar allegedly sold Chidester alcohol while she was visibly intoxicated, according to the lawsuit, and she continued drinking until she left the bar and ultimately crashed.Verna's Tavern should have stopped selling Chidester alcohol and should have provided alternate transportation to her home, the lawsuit argues.

A spokesperson for the bar, and Chidester’s attorney, maintains she only had one glass of wine. An attorney for the bar couldn’t be reached Tuesday.
