At the end of 2008 Pendennis announced the partnership with Ron Holland Design and Palm Beach Yachts International to build a new 46m performance cruising ketch. Three staterooms and a study provide the Owners and their guests with accommodation for up to 12, with a further four cabins forward sleeping eight crew. Christopher is the largest ketch built by Pendennis to date, and was delivered Spring 2011 in time to compete in the St Barth’s Bucket Regatta. The vessel celebrates classic traditions yet embraces new sailing technologies performing equally well as a beautiful family ‘home from home’ and a performance sailing cruiser. Despite a challenging 22 month build timeline, the strong partnership between the clients, designers and Pendennis’ project team enabled successful delivery to Pendennis’ usual uncompromising high standards, resulting in an impressive example of the very best in superyacht design and construction. Innovative technology included twin rudders, a pivoting keel and powerful rig and carbon rigging that provided performance as well as a shallow draft, and infra-red shielding in all windows reducing heat transfer into the accommodation thereby minimizing air con requirements. Her twin balanced rudders are an obvious departure for a large cruising yacht and have been incorporated to maximise sailing performance in strong wind conditions and to allow space for a large Williams Turbojet 505D tender in the lazarette. The retractable centre board was manufactured using precise CNC systems and when lowered, ‘bomb bay’ closing doors are deployed to reduce turbulence along the keel bottom. This is also the first Ron Holland Design Yacht to incorporate all carbon fibre rigging. Another first is the deletion of any mizzen mast jumper strut and stays. This detailing has set a benchmark for improving the sailing performance of large cruising yachts. Since her launch, experts at Pendennis have been available to support her wherever she cruises throughout the world. Engineers visited the yacht in Cost Rica and Pendennis Pacific was on hand with logistics and parts supply whilst Christopher cruised through Bali. The yacht returned to Falmouth in the Autumn of 2013 for a winter refit, which was completed before competing in the 2014 Pendennis Cup. Works included a Lloyd’s annual survey; rejuvenating teak cladding and deck; hydraulic system checks and minor interior adjustments.

Pendennis Launch Superyacht Christopher

After holding an official ceremony for their latest new build, Pendennis has announced the successful launch of the 46m sailing yacht Christopher.

Launching from the shipyard in Falmouth, this impressive sailing yacht was placed into position over the slipway by the yard’s 400 ton travel hoist and was then blessed by Father Jonathan Bielawski from St Mary’s Immaculate Parish Church. After the blessing ceremony, her owners proudly smashed a bottle of champagne on her bow and watched as she was placed into the water.

The ceremony, attended by over 400 Pendennis staff and families, gave the team who had been working tirelessly on her for over a year and a half a radiating sense of achievement. Her proud new owners celebrated amongst those involved in the construction of the superyacht, such as Ron Holland, the man responsible for Christopher’s Naval Architecture and part of the interior design.

“Pendennis was chosen to build Christopher due to the successful build quality and delivery timing we had experienced with our earlier designs they had launched. They have not let us down” Explains Ron Holland. “Christopher is a magnificent example of world class yacht building. We look forward to showing her off during the forthcoming St Barths Bucket Regatta in March.”

The project of sailing yacht Christopher began in 2008 when Pendennis announced the partnership of Ron Holland Design and Palm Beach Yachts International to build a new 46m performance cruising ketch. The construction of this magnificent superyacht began in April 2009 and, although the build schedule of 22 months was extremely challenging, Pendennis managed to maintain their original delivery date.

Her owners also commented on the result, “We are thrilled with the beautiful yacht that Pendennis has created, and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with the team in Falmouth. Throughout the build of Christopher they have been extremely professional and accommodating to our requests. Not only have we enjoyed a fantastic working partnership but have also made some wonderful new friends, and are now really excited about racing her in St Barths!”

Superyacht Christopher can accommodate up to 12 guests in three impressive staterooms and an Owners cabin, with a further 4 cabins for crew. Sailing yacht Christopher is undergoing final preparations, such as her rig which is due to be fit in January and a final interior and exterior finishing before she is delivered in time for the St Barths Bucket Regatta in March 2011.

Pendennis Plus, the division of the company which specialises in 60m+ refits and new builds, completed a substantial refit of the world’s largest sailing sloop, Mirabella V, in 2014. Redman Whiteley Dixon (RWD) were commissioned as the interior design team, fresh from the completion of the much talked about VAVA II (Devonport Yachts).

Naval Architect Ron Holland, Mirabella V’s original designer, who worked with Pendennis on the sailing yacht Christopher launched in 2011, steered structural improvements, including a 2.4m stern extension. The new Owner has renamed the yacht M5.

Relaunched as M5 the yacht’s 24month visit to Pendennis saw exterior restyling work including the installation of a side boarding platform. Structural fabrication of the composite stern was undertaken by Green Marine, with support from structural engineers High Modulus Europe Ltd. The full extent of the engineering commission involved replacing the main engines, generators, switchboards and sewage treatment plant along with an upgrade of the air conditioning system, electrics and entertainment system, and a 10 year DNV survey.

The interior aspects of the refit saw the main and lower decks undergo a complete restyle, with an elegant art deco inspired interior created by the team at Redman Whiteley Dixon. M5’s main deck was completely transformed with all joinery replaced to complement RWD’s new design.

Four Seasons Unveils First Yacht Itineraries and Suite Interiors

Four Seasons loyalists have a lot to be excited about, with the launch of the brand’s first yacht nearing in 2026.

The 14-deck luxury vessel, which is partly being modeled off of Aristotle Onassis’ iconic yacht Christina O , will offer some of the most opulent amenities at sea. Initial renderings released in October 2023 show a 66-foot saltwater pool, a marina deck built for swimming and watersports, sophisticated dining concepts, and 95 guest suites. Now, the Four Seasons has released the first renderings showcasing the spacious suites on board—and we got a first look.

The ship's sleek design seeks to translate “the Four Seasons guest experience in terms of comfort level and the luxury standards" to life at sea, Fredrik Johannson, partner and executive director of Tillberg Design of Sweden and the lead designer on the Four Seasons Yacht, tells Condé Nast Traveler. Even the hotel group’s beloved mattresses will be offered in every room.

The first renderings of the Four Season Yacht's suites were released Tuesday, showcasing spacious guest rooms with ocean views.

Also just revealed: the first destinations the yacht will call upon throughout its inaugural year. Passengers can expect to visit a wide variety of exclusive and jet-setting locales, as the yacht is slated to visit more than 130 destinations across 30 countries in its first year alone. And of course, guests will have the option to book pre-and-post cruise extensions at iconic Four Seasons resorts along the way.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce the first itineraries aboard Four Seasons Yachts, and know that these experiences will exceed our guest expectations when we set sail in 2026,” says Alejandro Reynal, Four Seasons President and CEO.

Each voyage calls upon small ports that are typically considered “yacht playgrounds," Thatcher Brown, the Chief Commercial Officer at Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings LTD and co-owner of Four Seasons Yachts, tells Traveler. Passengers can expect to sail between Caribbean and Mediterranean coastal havens almost exclusively visited by private vessels .

When the yacht launches in January 2026, it will first head to the Caribbean, where it will complete seven-night, island-hopping itineraries between St. Barths, Nevis, the Grenadines, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Curaçao, and Aruba.

Then in March 2026, the ship will cross the Atlantic and begin sailing its Grand Mediterranean voyages , which include visits to alluring towns in Croatia, Gibraltar, Montenegro, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. Travelers can also expect to access “under-the-radar” Greek islands , like Ios and Milos, as well as more popular Grecian destinations like Athens and Santorini, according to a Four Seasons release.

Guests will have the option to adjoin suites to accommodate families or other groups traveling together.

Sure the destinations sound glamorous—but it might be difficult for passengers to depart the ship and leave behind the luxe accommodations on board. Specifically the guest suites—which will offer 50% more living space per guest than any other competitor currently at sea, according to the company’s release.

Each space will offer floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the sea, bathrooms with double vanities, and large closets. “Almost every single bed on this whole yacht is facing the sea,” Johannson says. “All the rooms there have this clarity to them. They are very exclusive, but they have a beautiful simplicity.”

Every suite will also offer private outdoor terraces. What’s more: guests will have the option to adjoin suites to accommodate families or other groups traveling together. There are more than 100 different adjoining configurations, including the option to reserve the entire side of a deck—an opportunity that would afford a group of travel companions more than 13,000 square feet of living space.

The Four Seasons Yacht will be divided between Funnel and Loft Suites, each with private outdoor terraces.

But the true showstopper on board is sure to be the Funnel Suite. Located on the very top deck where the funnel or smokestack would traditionally be, the Funnel Suite is essentially the ship’s penthouse, spanning four floors and 9,975 square feet. The massive space will feature three bedrooms and a terrace with outdoor dining space, splash pool, and outdoor showers. But the suite’s best amenity will be its views. The four-story, floor-to-ceiling windows have been fitted with the largest piece of contiguous curved glass at sea, offering sweeping 280-degree views of the ocean as the yacht sails from port to port.

Voyages on board the Four Seasons yacht haven’t yet opened for general booking, but interested travelers can join the yacht’s waitlist in hopes of securing one of the elegant suites on the 2026 itineraries.

Ninety-five suites, conceived by the creative minds of Fredrik Johannson at Tillberg Design of Sweden and Creative Director Prosper Assouline, are designed to be sanctuaries of tranquility at sea. Each suite, envisioned with elegant interiors, expansive views, and a residential feel, aims to provide guests with a sense of being at home away from home. On board with Bill Joy, owner of 58m sailing yacht Ethereal

“A boat is a finite universe and we have to live with our resources,” says the computer software pioneer Bill Joy, as he talks fuel cells, decarbonising energy and designing and building his Royal Huisman ketch with Marilyn Mower

Bill Joy never set out to change the world – but that’s exactly what this unassuming Midwesterner did in the late 1970s when he turned the world of software development on its head. Armed with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Michigan, he was accepted to graduate programmes at Caltech and the University of California at Berkeley. Despite Caltech offering a teaching fellowship, he chose free-wheeling Berkeley and that made all the difference. “Reagan was the governor of  California  then and there had been massive budget cuts to education in the state. The campus computer facilities were decimated,” he recalls. “It was like a forest fire; everything is gone and then new green shoots start coming up.”

One of those new green shoots was Berkeley’s Computer Systems Research Group, which had managed to attract some money undertaking contract work for government agencies and corporations. One such contract given to Joy was to work with third-party software to run programs for an arm of the US Defense Department. Joy refused, saying he didn’t trust the third party’s code. Rather than risk a program failure, he went home and rewrote it. Hauled in to explain why he didn’t follow instructions, and asked how he thought he could rejig the software that keeps millions of bits of data moving in the right direction, he replied: “It’s simple – you read the protocol and write the language.” In a stroke, he had solved a significant instability problem and set the world of coding on a new course.

Forty years later, he remains every bit the soft- spoken pragmatist. Already a legend in software after his work at Berkeley, he was invited to join startup Sun Microsystems in the early 1980s to invent a smaller, simpler workstation and the enabling microprocessor that would take computing out of the realm of universities and governments and put it into industries. Soon, as a full partner, he led a team that invented Java, one of the most popular programming languages. This boosted Sun Microsystems into the stratosphere and put Joy into contact with other entrepreneurs such as Bruce Katz, the man behind the famous Rockport shoe brand of Massachusetts and owner of the 43.5-metre Royal Huisman sailing yacht Juliet . Their chance meeting during a business conference led first to a friendship and then directly to Joy building 58-metre sailing yacht Ethereal .

“It was sailing with Bruce aboard his Juliet ; such a great experience. I actually met Bruce before he built Juliet . He had a lifelong dream of building [his own boat to sail around the world] and because we both like design, we talked a lot about it. I inherited that dream,” says Joy.

After 21 years at Sun Microsystems, Joy made a huge career shift, becoming a venture capitalist with the Silicon Valley firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) in 2005. He put his analytical ability into identifying and investing in disruptive early-stage “green” technologies, notably wind, solar, energy storage and semiconductor technologies for mobile devices. The late Tom Perkins, an avid sailor, nurtured Joy’s nascent interest in sailing while former US vice president Al Gore, a KPCB senior partner, influenced him to build the most efficient, eco-friendly yacht possible.

When the time came to fulfil his sailing dream, Joy wanted the same team that created Juliet : Ron Holland as naval architect with the late Pieter Beeldsnijder for the interior and Royal Huisman to build it. “I really wanted to do a project with Pieter,” says Joy. “Bruce’s description of working with him was just so great.” Beeldsnijder and Joy hit it off. “It was such a pleasure to watch him work. He was very much an old-school person. He wouldn’t sit at a computer, he would sketch with pencil. He could freehand perspective drawings. He was a wizard and he could make you understand how things were going to feel. He was such a joy to be around. His effervescent happiness in doing the design was infectious,” Joy recalls.

While Katz’s project was driven by emotion, Joy approached the build of his family-focused yacht with the mind of an engineer. “I’m not a sailor; I don’t sail the boat. I’m an engineer,” he admits. He and wife Shannon wanted everyone involved with the project to think outside of the box. Every system was challenged and optimised. At one point, Royal Huisman set up five tents in the yard as workshops so that the scientists, engineers and technicians the Joys brought into the project could be developing on site in immediate proximity to each other. The yacht, launched in 2009, was a living laboratory, with efficiency woven into every corner and system on board.

Ethereal features the first true hybrid solution installed on a yacht, with its 500kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery bank (chosen for its safety) resting under the corridor to the aft cabins. It is a system that still works as planned and some of the batteries, charged and discharged thousands of times, are original. In the boat’s 10-year survey completed last year, no changes were made to the propulsion or the batteries, which can either be used for silent operation of the vessel, a generator-free night at anchor or for peak shaving.

The boat’s energy grid is remarkably flexible and can charge batteries three ways – from shaft generators when the props are freewheeling under sail, turning under power of the main engines or via one of three relatively small gensets. Reducing the production of heat of everything from light bulbs and air conditioning to glass in portlights and deck hatches that reflects outdoor heat combined with substantial insulation means the boat’s hotel load is much less than others its size and volume.

“A boat is a finite universe and we have to live with our resources. We have to be conscious of how much power we can generate, how much water we can make and how much food we can carry in our self-contained world,” Joy notes firmly.

Living within limits is a key philosophy for both husband and wife. Shannon is a producer of documentary films such as Chasing Coral, Ghost Fleet, Mission Blue and her latest, Anote’s Ark . She’s also on the board of Mission Blue, Oceans 5, Wild Aid and EarthSense Foundation. Ethereal , Joy tells me, has been on many dive trips while videographers and scientists worked on the films. “Most of our sailing has been in the South Pacific , Palau and Raja Ampat , Melanesia, Micronesia, Indonesia , Polynesia – all the ‘nesias’ – and Tahiti . I like the diving and Shannon is working on a lot of conservation issues in those areas.”

It evidently irritates him that governments and corporations don’t seem to have grasped the urgency of the world’s environmental challenges. “People hear that CO2 is going up so many parts per year and it seems like they still have time. The funny thing is, there are tipping points. There is a point at which things are barely in balance and then you add a stressor and the forest that has become drier every year for 10 years because of climate change suddenly becomes a massive fire. The polluted water run-off in Florida becomes a catastrophic amount of red tide and blue- green algae. People ask ‘what happened?’, and it probably wasn’t very much, but there was a tipping point. The systems have lost their resilience. Along comes a stressor and they have nothing left to give,” he says.

He won’t be drawn on politics, stating plainly: “Biology and chemistry have no politics. We have assumed we could stay colouring within the margins by putting little restrictions on things but the cumulative overpressure is quite large. It offends a few people a lot if you try to stop it and it offends a lot of people a little if you don’t, until it becomes a catastrophe, at which point your choices may be limited.”

Today sees Joy still actively engaged in the investment sector, acting as principal and chief scientist of Water Street Capital, based in Jacksonville, Florida , in between his stints on board Ethereal , on which he spends around three months a year. The firm’s investment model is less quick-hit and more agent of change. Not surprisingly, Joy is focused on batteries and reformulating the energy grid. He has personally led financing for Ionic Materials, developer of a solid polymer to replace the liquid electrolyte in rechargeable batteries. “A lot of the materials you would like to use in a battery because they have good voltage potential and are light and cheap tend to not be materials that work well with a liquid [electrolyte],” he explains.

“For example, sulphur is something you would love to use in a battery. It’s light and almost free but when you put it with a liquid you get reactions creating all sorts of impurities that cause it to fail. If you use a polymer electrolyte, then you don’t have these reactions and you aren’t restricted on materials... we open up the whole periodic table. It could make radically better batteries. You don’t have to mine the deep ocean or the Congo for materials like cobalt and nickel. You could completely eliminate toxic lead acid batteries.”

After nearly two hours in Ethereal’s beautiful deck saloon, we’ve covered topics as diverse as fuel cells, decarbonising energy, a meat replacement made mostly out of peas, and why he’s still dubious about artificial intelligence and . We haven’t quite solved all the world’s problems, but I walk off the passarelle knowing there is a good man on the case.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8.

The Harbor Police told Business Insider that Holt decided to press charges against Thakore and that they are investigating the incident.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.

The exposition space increased up to 30 000 sq m and was accommodated in all 4 exhibition halls of the fairgrounds! 280 Russian (Arkhangelsk, Vyborg, Kazan, Kaluga, Republic of Karelia, Moscow and Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yaroslavl region) and foreign ( Denmark , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , Poland , USA , Turkey , Ukraine, Finland , France , Montenegro and Croatia ) companies participate in the show.

Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!

Unique exhibits were presented at the show for the first time: exposition of private submarines from U-Boat Russia company, Marquis Yachts 420 SB motor yacht from Sport Bridge S. Marine series, SAGA-415 yacht from Saga Boats Norwegian shipyard, Jetlev-Flyer from MS Watersports.

Moscow Boat Show a Great Success

More than 400 yachts were displayed within the frames of the event including the largest boats ever exhibited in Russia – the 19-meter giant motor yacht Princess 54 as well as the Princess 50 yacht from Nord Marine and Baja speed boat from Burevestnik.

Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.

The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show. Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspection on Small size Vessels (GIMS) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, Georguiy Shaiduko, Acting President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), Olympic champion in Atlanta and Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show also spoke at the ceremony.

The high-ranking guests noted dynamic development of the branch which well reasoned the intensive growth of the exposition and appearance of rather unique “gems”.

A number of business meetings and negotiations were held within the frames of the project: the exhibition was visited by a large delegation of Greek businessmen for the purpose of establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Russian colleagues.

More than 400 yachts on display at the Show

Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.

Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.

The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.

Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.

The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.
