Leibel, Tomlinson win powerboat world title in Florida Keys

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Offshore powerboat racers Lorne Leibel and John Tomlinson piloted Canada Homes to a Super Cat class world championship Sunday, the third and final racing day of the Race World Offshore Key West Championships in the Florida Keys.

Driver Leibel of Toronto and throttleman Tomlinson of Miami pulled ahead of M-Con, which easily won the first two races Wednesday and Friday, after the 38-foot Skater broke down on the fifth lap of Sunday’s race.

M-Con’s driver, Myrick Coil of Osage Beach, Missouri, and throttleman Tyler Miller of Wathena, Kansas, could only watch Leibel and Tomlinson finish the race and grab a Union Internationale Motonautique world title.

“I told Lorne that the first thing you’ve got to do in Key West is to finish all three races under full power, and if you do that you’ve got a really good shot at winning the championship,” Tomlinson said.

In the Extreme class, Huski-Alegra Motorsports earned world championship honors despite a breakdown shortly after Sunday’s start. Headquartered in Stuart, Florida, the boat was driven by Carlos De Quesada and throttled by Steve Curtis.

The Maryland-based LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness, driven by Brit Lilly and throttled by Kevin Smith, clinched the Stock V title after leading the class on all three race days.

Boatfloater.com, throttled by Steve Kildahl and driven by his son, Stephen Kildahl, both of Sarasota, Florida, secured the Modified V championship.

Offshore Powerboat Racing World Championships

The Race World Offshore (RWO) is bringing together teams and fans for an exciting Offshore World Championship experience in Key West from November 3rd-10th, 2024. Recognized as the leading Offshore Racing Sanctioning authority in the US, RWO aims to present an unforgettable week featuring the world's top offshore race teams. The event will be held in the Race Village, situated at Truman Waterfront Park, which will be open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

The championship offers several highlights including:

• Three days of racing on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday (1st race time at 10 am, followed by 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm start times).
• A live stream of the races on a Jumbo LED stage in the Race Village.
• A variety of vendors and food available each day.
• Access to the Navy Outermole for optimal viewing of the races.
• Amenities such as bleachers, food, music, and entertainment.
• The Race Day's Hospitality Village, and award ceremonies held on the Outermole after each race on Wednesday and Friday.

The week begins with the World's Fastest Boat Parade on Duval Street the Sunday prior, followed by a variety of activities throughout the week, including a block party, the 3rd Annual Build-A-Boat Contest, and a shuttle service on race days for Outer Mole VIP guests. The final Sunday Racing marks the World Championship Day, culminating in the UIM World Champion Awards & Closing Ceremonies in the Race Village.

The Key West Offshore Racing World Championship is to begin on Sunday, November 5th, 2022 kicking off the week with a parade of the world's fastest boats.

The first race starts on Wednesday the 8th with 1st race time at 10 am, followed by 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm start times.

The second race starts on Friday the 10th and the third race starts on Sunday the 12th, both with the same race start times as Wednesday.

It’s a powerboat racing website that has covered circuit racing, offshore racing and PWC since 2016. Maintained by The Race Factory based in Norway who have specialists in event planning and promotion, social media, graphic design, and photography. We are currently working on our vision and believe that we can and will make a different in powerboating. We will dedicate our time to produce accurate factual stories and to promote the sport to a wider global audience.

The UIM has selected Arendal and Larvik in Norway as host cities for some of the 2024 UIM Offshore title Championship events. Arendal will hold a round of the highly anticipated UIM Offshore 3D World Championship, as well as the prestigious single eventUIM Offshore 3B World Championship and the UIM Offshore 3J, 3X, and 3C European Championships.

These thrilling events will take place from august 1st to 4th..

On the other hand, Larvik, unfortunately, lost the opportunity to host a round of the Offshore 3D World Championship, but on June 27th to 30th, the city will be offered to organize the UIM World Championship single event for classes 3A, 3X, and 3J.

This outcome has left the local organizers in Larvik disappointed, and a board meeting will be held to determine the course of action for the club.

Abu Dhabi , UAE, Monday, 09 June 2003 - With the Federation of Russia Grand Prix scheduled for August 17, the UIM Powerboat Homologation Committee plans to visit the site of the race, not far from Moscow center, from June 16-20, 2003. The Federation of Russia Grand Prix is the fifth race on the 2003 UIM F1 Powerboat Championship calendar and the ninth time that an F1 Powerboat Championship event takes place in Russia.

Organisers of the 2003 event plan a great show for an expected 50,000 spectators. Since 1989, FI Powerboats have raced in Minsk (1989), Leningrad (1990,1991), St Petersburg (1995,1996) and Moscow (1997, 1998 and 1999).

"After three years away, I am happy to see the F1 Powerboat Championship back in Moscow, thanks to the Moscow Government and to 7TV Sports Television Channel," said Nicolo di San Germano, promoter of the UIM F1 Powerboat series. "This Grand Prix is an exciting new event, even though the Federation of Russia has hosted F1 Powerboat racing before.

"The last Grand Prix in Moscow gave us a lot of action on the river in the city's famous Gorki Park. But the 2003 edition will take place in Strogino, seven kilometres away from the center of Moscow. Found by Pierre Bogdanov, President of the Russian Federation Motonautique, this new location will allow FI Powerboat racing on a much wider circuit, compared with Gorki Park. "

The charismatic di San Germano has worked assiduously since 1993 to make F1 Powerboat racing a global sport. "I am gratified to see that some of the concepts that I initiated have begun to take root," di San Germano said. These include among others proper racing pits and hospitality units.

"In the last ten years, the F1 Powerboat racing programme has taken the contenders to Asia, Europe and the Middle East, and Far East" di San Germano said. The promoter has dreams of additional locations in the future. "But today," he said, "I really hope that the Homologation Committee will find that the circuit in Strogino meets all the necessary criteria for a good show, perfect organisation, and, above all, safety."
