This is a sailing YouTube channel that's run by Australian video bloggers Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu. Founded in 2014 when the couple met in Greece, this sailing YouTube channel documents the couple's life aboard their sailing catamaran known as La Vagabonde.

You've probably wondered whether it would be possible to bring your lovely pet to your sailing escapades. Well, a young couple known as Billy Swezey and Sierra Groth have been showing that it's possible and very inspiring thanks to their Tula's Endless Summer sailing YouTube channel.

Their sailing adventure started in 2013 when Billy bought a dilapidated boat in an abandoned boatyard in New York and set about restoring the boat. Billy, who describes himself as a water bug, then met the lovely Sierra in Florida. Since then the couple together with their dog, Jetty, have been inseparable as a Dream Team and have shown the world that taking up sailing as a lifestyle is very possible.

Sailing Uma

Neither Dan Deckert nor Kika Mevs grow up sailing and never dreamt of buying a sailboat just to cruise around the world. But soon after graduating, this gorgeous couple founded a successful architectural design-consulting firm as a way of earning a living. Fortunately, Dan and Kika soon realized that the rat race wasn't their cup of tea. They both had dreams of traveling the world and seeing for themselves of the earth was a beautiful place. Again, they had been inspired when a friend advised them not to buy a couch!

Having realized that the conventional life wasn't meant for them, the couple bought a sailboat named UMA even though they didn't know anything about sailboats or sailing. They had to Google their way out and restored their lovely boat to their liking. They came up with a 5-year plan to learn step by step before sailing around the world. The plan was to start with a small boat and learn how to sail on a lake before getting a vessel that they could use for their offshore adventures.

Adam wasn’t a stranger to sailing before moving aboard, having raced sailboats with his dad in Perth in his teenage and college years, but Khiara had never sailed before hatching their plan to liveaboard. Turns out she was keen to learn!

Their sailboat Millennial Falcon is a 1981 Tayana 42, which they bought in Florida in 2018.

Sailing Ruby Rose  follows the sailing couple, Nick and Terysa, as they sail all over the world aboard their sailboat, Ruby Rose and now Ruby Rose 2.

They’ve sailed everywhere from the Caribbean to the Canary Islands and have done quite a bit of chartering in Australia (Terysa’s home country). 

Nick and Teresa sailed a Southerly 38 monohull for seven years before announcing in 2019 they would upgrade to a sailing catamaran. 

HIGHLIGHTS: These meticulous content creators are known for their catamaran video review series, complete with a rating system, which they created to document the process of choosing their future sailboat.

The Ruby Rose crew recently moved aboard their new catamaran after three years in the build process.

Through a collaboration with Seawind, they tweaked the new 1370 model catamaran and have created the perfect liveaboard performance sailing catamaran for cruising.

Their channel covered the process in detail from start to finish, including the decision-making behind the design choices, changes, and upgrades.

This young couple found each other while working on super yachts in 2012, and it didn’t take long for them to hatch a plan to save up and sail the world.

They purchased their first sailboat, Atticus, for a mere $5,000 in Florida. It was a 1963 Allied Seawind 30 and needed a lot of work.

Fueled by passion and determination, Desiree and Jordan spent three years meticulously refitting the boat, turning it into a floating home that would carry them on unforgettable adventures.

As they continued their sailing escapades, the couple found innovative ways to sustain their passion financially. Their newfound skills in boat maintenance and willingness to take on odd jobs along the way provided the means to fund their dream of circumnavigation.

Since then, they’ve added two little crew members, their kids Willa and Bodhi, and have completed a circumnavigation.

This sailing family has cruised all over the world on a 2005 Lagoon 410 catamaran.

From crossing the South Pacific and Indonesia to exploring Madagascar and, most recently, rounding the Cape of Good Hope, they’ve had some fantastic (and wild) experiences along the way.

Whether catching a giant tuna off their stern or fighting off pirates during the night, this crew doesn’t shy away from sharing the exciting and scary moments of living aboard. 

HIGHLIGHTS:  The Nahoa crew recently partnered with New Zealand designer de Villiers Design to build a custom aluminum catamaran perfect for high-latitude sailing.

Sailing Doodles  is a YouTube channel and brand created by Texas native Bobby White. 

Previously a private pilot, Bobby got a wake-up call when he suffered a stroke and could no longer perform his job. Determined to make the most of his circumstances, he chose to seize the moment and embrace a new chapter by purchasing a sailboat.

Sailing Doodles has had a constant rotation of guest crew over the years. And Bobby has become somewhat famous in the YouTube and sailing world for surrounding himself with beautiful women on board.

HIGHLIGHTS: Bobby has owned and sailed many boats over the years, including a motor yacht that he cleverly named “The Dark Side.” This channel features primarily coastal cruising in exotic locations such as the Caribbean and Mediterranean. 

The channel is named for Bobby’s two Labradoodles, Maverick and Goose. Unfortunately, he lost these loyal sailing companions in 2020 and 2022, respectively. (I still hope Bobby decides to add a furry sailing crew back on this channel someday.)

#1 Sailing La Vagabonde

Meet the most popular YouTube sailors out there. Sailing La Vagabonde is a youtube channel created by a young sailing family – Riley, Elayna, Lenny, and Darwin.

They are popular for their videos documenting their everyday lives sailing around the world, and have more recently started making videos that highlight some of the issues surrounding our oceans, such as climate change and the refugee crisis.

They first started sailing in 2014 when they left Australia in search of adventure. Since then, they have sailed over 65,000 miles between them. SV Delos was one of the original sailing YouTube channels. They were made popular for their videos which document their travels around the world on their sailboat, as they took on various crew, partied hard, and worked even harder.

Delos are the channel that first got Adam interested in the liveaboard lifestyle. I think at the time he liked the idea of beach parties and girls in bikinis! But the channel has grown up with us, so it’s been quite nice to see them change from party animals to a couple with a family (who still love to party!)

Now they are a crew of (mostly) three – Brian, Karin, and their daughter Sierra. They have been sailing together since 2008, and have visited over 40 countries.

Watch the early episodes if you’re in your young (or old!), free and single era, and tune into their more recent episodes for some great sailing and life with a toddler on board.

Hi! We’re Warren and Erica, or WE for short, and we sail and travel the world full time on our 2015 Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Drifting on the ocean with water so flat it felt as if the boat was floating through space. No land in sight for hundreds of miles. At night the stars shimmered so bright and clear they reflected upon the ocean, it felt as if we were floating through space and even the dolphins would look like sparkly torpedoes gliding through the galaxy of bioluminescence. Not having a lot of money has made it challenging to say the least, but we have overcome countless hurdles and obstacles along the way, which has made us resilient and humble. The ocean is a wild and crazy place to call home, but we love it and wouldn’t want it any other way. Hi! We’re Iain and Kate and we live full time on our 40ft sailing yacht “Intrepid Bear”.  We’ve sailed 4,500 nm since March 2021 when we left Poole in the U.K. and during that time we’ve had some fantastic adventures. We’ve experienced some amazing highs and dealt with some difficult lows. Our passage making confidence has grown as we have sailed further and further, we’ve made mistakes, learnt more than we knew, and we’ve made lifelong friends along the way.   This season we left Portugal in spring 2022 and spent time in Gibraltar before making a month long, 1650nm, passage to Montenegro.  After a recharge we sailed to Greece in June and it was so special for us to return, on our own boat, to the island where we were married 5 years before. We then spent 3 months exploring some of the islands in the Ionian and Aegean Seas passing through the incredible Corinth Canal twice! We’re now back in beautiful Montenegro where we’ll winter this year.  We have some boat maintenance jobs to do after a long season and are also excited for some road trip adventures while we are here. Sharing our adventures on YouTube has been an unexpected pleasure for both of us.  We both get excited when a new episode is due to be released hoping that people will enjoy what we’ve made. We are both slowly getting more comfortable around the camera and love looking back at our previous adventures, even if we were a bit wooden back then!  Nonetheless our first episode 1 “ Boosh taking a huge wave over the bow ” is still a favourite along with the more recent Episode 26 “ Sailing past Volcanos ” where the sunset had to be seen to be believed. The best sailing vlogs and sailing blogs provide not only hours of entertainment and escapism but serious practical knowledge and insights into the world of liveaboard sailing and cruising life as well as inspiration and motivation for people who are eager to learn the ropes.

However, with so much content out there, it’s easy to get lost down a rabbit hole of sailing videos and websites some great and others not so great.

When we took up van life in 2018 we turned to the web for the inspiration and the information we needed to convert our own van and try our hand at living from the road. In doing so, we discovered the best van life blogs and vlogs across the internet .

Similarly, in 2022, when we decided we were going to sell the van, travel to Croatia, buy a boat and learn to sail, we once again turned to internet strangers to answer some of our biggest questions.

We spent hours reading blog posts and viewing countless sailing vlogs. Many were ok, and many more were unwatchable or, at least, didn’t scratch our itch for sailing content. A handful, however, were beautiful, engaging, funny, and above all authentic.

These are the best sailing vlogs and sailing blogs on the internet right now according to us! They are not necessarily the biggest or the flashiest (honestly some of the bigger channels we find difficult to watch). These are our favorites because they are charming, funny, authentic, helpful, beautiful, or all of the above. They inspire, entertain and educate all at once and make us want to be better sailors, travelers, and content creators.

Gosh, we wish it weren’t true, but there’s a reason that these guys have become completely synonymous with sailing vlogs. Sailing La Vagabonde is the last word when it comes to YouTube sailing channels with over 1.5 million subscribers on their YouTube channel.

Australian couple Riley and Elayna began their sailing adventure in 2014 and have been sharing their journey for 8 years!

Since then they have crossed the Mediterranean, Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific. They have also had two children who they are raising onboard as they continue to sail the world.

Their episodes feature them exploring some of the most beautiful places on earth, surviving storms, gear failures, and mistakes, as well as documenting the minutiae of everyday life as they chart their lives aboard.

Free Range Sailing: An Authentic Sailing Vlog

This impressive couple sailed their fifty-year-old, thirty-foot monohull around Australia in an inspirational display of what can be done on a modest budget. Free Range Sailing’s awesome vlog gives an up-close and personal idea of what it takes to undertake such an awesome journey and the payoff.

The reality is that far more people out on the seas are older sailors, often retirees sailing full-time or seasonally. While the number of young sailors with vlogs heavily outweighs their counterparts, you can find a few old gems amongst them.

One example is the sailing vlog Adventures of an Old Sea Dog. With years and years of boating experience under his belt, Barry headed to Portugal to buy a liveaboard and sail the world over five years ago.

On his sailing vlog, Barry shares it all. The good, the bad, and the ugly. You won’t find sugar coating here but a genuine glimpse into life on the seas. It’s not as shiny as some of the other vlogs floating about, but it is a raw, unpretentious look at life at sea. Something you don’t always get, and that is just why we like it.

If you think cruising on a liveaboard is challenging, spare a thought for Roger who sails and camps in his tiny dinghy. Check out Roger Barnes as he documents his journeys, pushing the limits of dinghy sailing.

Sailing Frenchman: An Inspiring Sailing Channel

Hugo’s dream started with quitting his job in 2017 to buy and restore an old (very old) boat to cross the Atlantic. As his vlog and his goals have progressed he has become involved with racing and he continues to grow and develop as a sailor and as a filmmaker. Through his journey, he continues to deliver raw footage of some extreme sailing experiences alongside more light-hearted content.

Sailing Blogs Worth Their Salt

While videos, vlogs and sailing channels can be hugely entertaining, the ability to access written content that spells out the what, the where, and the how of liveaboard sailing is incredibly valuable for people like us who often need specific answers to specific questions. Best Sailing Movies & YouTube Channels [Updated Daily]

Top lists are never easy to come up with. However, I have been interested (obsessed) with sailing for 4 years now. Endless hours watching Sailing Movies and YouTube videos , trying to learn how to sail.

This list is one that I have come up with as my tops. I will, of course, include a top list that the world thinks 🙂

So lets get started with the top sailing movies in 2022 and beyond.

List of Best Sailing Movies 2022

1. Adrift [2018]

I loved this film! Based on a true story of a girls quest to travel the world by sailing. She meets and falls in love with another sailor. They are offered a job to take a sailboat back to California only to be caught in a hurricane. This is the story of love and survival.

The actors did such a beautiful job on this story and it is not hard to feel is the fear as Tami awakens and fights for her life.

2. Capsized-blood in the water

Now if you are a fan of shark week you would have seen this in 2019. Again, based on a true story.

In 1982 a group of people set out sail from Maryland to Florida only to be caught up in an unexpected storm. After their boat capsizes they are force into a dingy only to be hunted by sharks.

Ok so this more about the sharks, but it is a beautiful sailboat, well was. Still a great story and must watch.

3. White Squall

Ok another based on a true story, I think I like the real ones! This one however you better get a big box of tissues. Yes this one will pull at the heart strings

In 1961 a sailboat called Albatross capsizes and sinks with many still onboard. This is not just about that. It is a great story of high school and college teenagers learning the lines and getting ready for a sail. During there trip half way around the globe they are trapped in a squall. This is a much watch, don’t forget the tissues!

4. Waterworld

Oh Kevin Costner, still one of my fav actors. So we are now off the based on true stories and have reached a all time great!

1995’s Waterworld is a joy to watch. The world has been taken over by water. No land to grow food. So people have formed into almost fish like people, gills and all. Kevin plays a man, caught up in being alone. That is till he meets his match and a young kid. Follow them as they make their way along the open seas in search for this mystery place (land)

Sailing YouTube Channels

Again this is my personal opinion and I will do another list of the top ranked from around the world. So let’s get to it!

1. Chasing Bubbles

Well this is not so much a Youtuber, but another based on a true story documentary that you can and should watch on youtube.

With over 2.2 million views this story is about Alex Rust who sets sail as the “worst sailor in the world”. Alex takes himself and misfit crew around the world. Exploring everything and even the cities of tribes. This story is one of the reasons I wanted to start sailing. Alex is one of the reasons I want to make my adventures by boat.

You should once again get a box of tissues.

2. Sailing Nahoa

A Canadian couple, now with 2 kids working their way around the globe. This couple is entertaining to watch, especially if you love deep sea fishing.

This amazing outspoken couple have gone from the USA and are now in Thailand. Looking forward to see where they head to next!

Now in 2021, with 330000 subscribers, they are back in Canada just having had their second child. Can not wait to see what the future has in store for them.

3. Beau and Brandy

Beau and Brandy, an American couple new not only to YouTube but also sailing have been a delight to watch.

With just over 41000 subscribers they have sailed mainly around the Caribbean. In the beginning of their journey they were joined by their salty pup Oona. Unfortunately Oona passed away and Beau and Brandy have sailed away with their fur baby guardian angel looking over them. They are a full electric sailboat which is new, so it’s great to see how they come along with that

They have have some crazy times including almost sinking and have come out stronger for it. Can’t wait to see if which direction they will go in.

4. Gone with the Wynns

Great American couple who started out in a converted van traveling around the USA. Buying a catamaran having never sailed before, they set out and have made their way half way around the world.

During 2020 they were stuck in Fiji, not a bad place to be stuck. They waited it out till they could get back to their boat which was on the hard (on land).

Now down in New Zealand they are fixing up their boat and back to sailing. I wonder where they will take their 479000 followers next.

5. Sailing Millennial Falcon

An Aussie couple bound to travel the world. They have taken their 75900 followers on a fun and educational adventure.

They have just made their way East to Europe. Through trail and tribulations they have grown by there fun energy and hard work.

6. Expedition Evans

This sweet, lovable couple have taken a grounded sailboat and refit it to be a masterpiece. Having only been on here for just over a year they have already a great following of 96000.

They have just finished and started sailing. I cannot wait to see where they are headed.. Absolutely love the energy and realness they bring to the camera. Not all glitz and glam!

7. Sailing Jibsea

Another couple just starting out. Also from Canada. After spending a winter onboard in Toronto Canada they made their way down to the Bahamas.

They first started during the pandemic and have done well. With very little sailing experience and a stunning boat I am looking forward to see what they will bring their almost 20000 followers.

Also she is a great cook and can’t wait to see what she cooks up on the next episode.

8. Project Atticus

An amazing couple that started off in a small fixer upper boat and have made their way up to a family friendly ocean crossing vessel.

A great channel to learn not only how to fix things but how to communicate. I love that they know their limits.

I started watching this channel and they are another reason I wanted to get into sailing. I love their work ethic and I’m sure that is why they have such a great following of 235000.

9. Sailing GBU

Also known as Sailing Good, Bad and Ugly . This crazy American couple bought there boat on craigs list for $5000 and have made there way to the Caribbean.

A strong couple who like to do things the frugal way. A do it yourselfer couple who have had their share of breakdowns.

Another couple with energy and are fun to watch. With 126,000 followers, I’m sure Sailing GBU will be sending more amazing content for years to come.

10. Sailing Nandji

A Aussie couple living the froth life and making there way around the world. They have made their way to Thailand with their pup Marley and are now with a new crew member there little girl.

Not going to lie I watch this couple because they are so real. I love that he laughs at himself and that makes me laugh.

They landed their boat one night on a reef and worked so well as a team. This couple are here for the long run and I’m sure their 117000 followers would agree.

11. Sailing Sunday

This Canadian/Aussie couple are true angels in the fur baby world. During the pandemic they were stuck in foreign countries with not much to do. They realized the amount of animals that needed care on the streets.

For the last year they have used Jackson’s treats (their fur baby) to raise money to help those animals in need. You couldn’t ask for a more loving couple.

Now with that being said, they are hilarious. I’m surprised that they only have 13000 followers. I hope that people will get a chance to see them.

12. Sail Life

Now this channel is for anyone who wants to know how to do a total refit. And by that I mean rip everything out and rebuild. He has been refitting Athena for a couple years now and has done an amazing job.

This do it yourselfer is one channel that everyone, who wants to sail, should watch. I love his little puns and his humor. With almost 100000 followers I can’t wait to see him set sail.

• The king and queen of sailing La Vagabonde. With 1.62 million followers they have brought the sailing world to life
• Sailing SV Delos is the Godfather of sailing. Starting off with an adventurous crew they are now a sailing family
• Sailing Zatara is a sailing family, absolutely entertaining to watch
• Sailing Doodles is one mans journey to sailing, with great hop on crew, he is fun to watch
• Sailing Uma is the pioneer to electric sailing. Converting there boat to be a fully functional vessel
• Taylors Travel is a solo female traveler and a Canadian. Great energy.
• MJ Sailing is the couple of flipping boats. Now working on building their own catamaran, fun to watch.
• Captain Rick Moore is “the” captain. Educational and fun to watch
• Ran Sailing is a family of three who are so lovely to watch.

Fort lauderdale police officer wounded in shooting at hotel; suspect dead, officer was released from the hospital thursday evening after sustaining non-life threatening injuries.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There was a massive police presence in Fort Lauderdale’s Harbordale area Thursday morning after a city police officer was shot.

It happened in a hotel room at the Holiday Inn Express at 1500 SE 17th St., according to police.

Police Chief Bill Schultz said just after 7:30 a.m., a caller reported that he had killed someone inside of a hotel room.

Officers entered the room and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who barricaded himself in the room, Schultz said. He said one officer was struck by gunfire.

The suspect, who police identified as Karl Chludinsky, 46, of Margate, was found dead inside of the room by SWAT officers, according to Fort Lauderdale police spokesperson Casey Liening.

Liening also confirmed that the wounded officer was released from Broward Health Medical Center on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery.

A second officer was injured and treated at the scene but was not shot, Schultz said.

Sue Riggs, who was visiting Fort Lauderdale for the first time, told Local 10 News that she immediately went into hiding after hearing the gunshots nearby.

“I jumped up and went into a men’s room right there and it is all concrete and steel,” she said. “We couldn’t figure out why they knew he was there in that room. That makes sense.”

Hotel guest Luis Castaneda said he and a group of bystanders were directed by a police officer to a nearby conference room for safety.

“She was like, ‘Everybody, get into this conference room!’ They put us in there, they locked it and turned the lights off.”' she said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police shooting. The three officers who opened fire are on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Schultz said.

Local 10 News went to Chludinsky’s home to speak with family members about the incident but no one answered.

Neighbors say he was going through a bit of depression following a recent divorce but are still shocked this happened.

“I would’ve never expected anything like this. He was always a sweet man toward us,” a woman said. “Even though he was going through some hard times, you could tell he was trying to push through.”

A Broward County arrest photo from 2019 shows Chludinsky after he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and drug possession.

Police said a motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time and stressed that there is no threat to the community.
