One of the biggest worldwide yacht exhibitions, «Boot» Düsseldorf visited by the General Manager of PLANACO S.A. Mr. Costas Dris and customer service assistant of the Yard, Mr. Elias Petrou. During their visit to Germany, they had the opportunity to talk with representatives of large companies and study new technologies in the construction and repair of vessels. They also met representatives of Mediterranean marinas and chartering companies.

Planaco Yacht Yard

Setting the standards of the new era Planaco yacht yard has been known to Greek and foreign yachtsmen for over 30 years. Just 11 nautical miles from Piraeus, on the island of Aegina, Planaco was always the choice of yachting people for wintering, maintenance, refit and repairs of their vessels.

Today, Planaco yacht yard has turned the pages of the company’ s history. Planaco SA enters a new era of evolution and development, under the new ownership of the large public group of Folli Follie, as well as under a new efficient and service minded management. The vision is the creation of a modern technological “jewel” with European specifications, at the service of the contemporary yachtsman.

The yard is extended over 35.000 sq. m. configured land, with an up to date ecological system, out of which around 1.000 sq. m. is an indoor space for special works on boats under environmentally controlled area. There are two piers serving two systems for launching, one by power trailer for up to 60 tons, and one synchro lift for up to 250 tons. And we are just at the beginning. At present, work is already in progress for a third jetty, which will “host” the new travelift of 400 tons, and which will be operational by autumn 2009. Work is also in progress for the development of a large breakwater, which will eventually have the possibility to offer temporary berths for up to 15-20 yachts.

The technical staff of Planaco yacht yard consists of skilful technicians, with years of experience in wood, metal and GRP work. The yard offers “within one’ s means” prices and guaranteed work covering almost all spectrum of maintenance, repair and refit work, within an ecological, modern and safe environment, guarded 24/7 by a private security company and surveillance cameras. The facilities include power (220 V – 380 V AC), water, air under pressure, as well as free wireless internet for the owner and crew.

The sweetest driver and the most amazing relaxing time. We didn't have to worry about anything. Really throughly enjoyed our time. We drove to San Francisco to a wedding, my aunts and uncles are older and it's hard for them to see in long drives outside of our city. This was a treat! It was around 30+ of us. Super friendly customer service, everything was easy and smooth. The bus was clean as a whistle and we were able to play our own music. Bluetooth connected, waters and a TV! We brought our own snacks and a little bit of wine, we had a blast.

We rented a party bus for my husband and I's 30th and it was incredible! Mark was awesome and made sure we all got there and back safely, and we got sooo many compliments from our friends that came. Plenty of space, super clean ride and overall just a great time! Definitely recommend!

I had my senior ball on 5/5 and Mark was amazing! I found him on yelp and had messaged him starting from February because I knew how crazy prom season would be. I copied part of the message he sent me for the quote I asked for: "The following land yacht is available for your 6 hour (5:45p-11:45p) event on the date you've requested.  30-36 passenger - $1,695.00 Our prices INCLUDE ALL FEES AND CHAUFFEUR'S GRATUITY, as well as complimentary ice and bottled water." I had 32 people on my bus and we all had enough space! The water was definitely awesome for the end of the night but Mark was so responsible and got us to SF city hall on time and safely. He was so quick at replying to my messages and I have had looked into many other places and this was the most accommodating and reasonably priced. Highly recommend !!

Our group had an amazing time! Mark arrived on time to pick us up and the bus was clean and spacious. The bathroom on board was an added plus. The pricing is very favorable to other companies and the bus has everything you need. I wish I had taken pictures of the interior because the other photos on here don't do it justice. There's also a TV that you can stream to. We ended up extending our reservation an hour because we didn't want it to end. We will definitely be using Mark again in the future.

I had my 40th birthday bash and Mark was amazing. Bus was very clean and roomy with a bathroom which was a plus. Hands down, book with Pacific Land Yachts if you are looking for a party bus. Would definitely do business again!

I rented a bus for my brothers 30th birthday and it was an unforgettable night! The bus was in great condition and so much bigger than I imagined. It even had a restroom which was helpful because we had it reserved for 5 hours. The driver was fantastic and let us blast our music and dance the whole time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a good time!!

Mark is pretty darn awesome! We chartered his land yacht for a work event. Everyone had an amazing time, and everyone said that they would definitely want to work with Mark again for both future and personal events that require group transportation. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

While the boat was on the hardstand, at about 0420 hrs tonight (23.11.2018), an unknown person climbed up the ladder and tried to get inside the boat. I was sleeping in the aft cabin and awakened by the sound on deck. When I saw a leg through the open port light and noticed that someone was trying to open the washboards, I screamed very loudly to get off my boat and the suspect ran away.

I immediately contacted the boatyard security, who were not very helpful and the person on duty was scared to chase the suspect. After an intensive search by myself through the boatyard, a guy jumped off another boat and left the boatyard on the NE side through a dry river bed.

It turned out that the surveillance camera system in the boatyard is not working at all and no records were made. The security company strongly refused to call the police and only forced the security person, who was on duty during the incident, to write an internal report.

EAST SIDE — A day-long open house for local boaters of all experience levels this weekend in East Side aims to be an accessible, fun draw for newbies to the nautical world, organizers said.

Yachtapalooza takes place 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Crowley’s Yacht Yard , 3434 E. 95th St.

The free, indoor event celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. It features free seminars and demonstrations, a pig roast, live music, a flea market Friday and Saturday and a three-day sale on nautical items from Boater’s Closet Friday-Sunday.

Organizers hope to draw 1,000 current and future mariners out to this year’s event, said Nick Fugate, sales manager at Crowley’s Yacht Yard.

Yachtapalooza will also include a boat showcase by Nautical Donations , Crowley’s charitable arm, featuring several rehabbed, budget-friendly boats for sale.

Proceeds from the boat sales will support nonprofits like the Chicago Maritime Society and the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Foundation, Fugate said.

The Chicago Boat Show dropped its sailing portion in recent years and is planning a move to the suburbs next year , so this weekend “is probably the closest thing to a sailboat show that we’ve got in Chicago,” said Charles Szymanski, a Yachtapalooza organizer and president of the nonprofit Rainbow Races .

With a few dozen vendors and free seminars on topics like marine pumps and toilets, splicing line and rope, and applying epoxy and varnish, Yachtapalooza offers “anything you would need” to maintain a boat, Fugate said.

The seminars give attendees “the chance to use the products, put their hands on them and feel them, and learn a little more than watching a powerpoint on a screen,” he said.

The event is “the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to get into sailing, [with] questions about sailing or [wanting] to check out a sailboat for the first time,” Szymanski said.

Rainbow Races is one of Yachtapalooza’s featured vendors, and its members will host one of the day’s seminars. The group aims to erase barriers marginalized groups may face in getting into sailing, Szymanski said.

It’s the only U.S. Sailing-sanctioned, LGBTQ+ sailing school in the country, and the only LGBTQ+ sailing organization in the Midwest, he said.

Rainbow Races’ first day of sailing school begins May 18. The group is offering a $50 early-bird discount on sailing classes through the end of April with the discount code “hydra50.” To register, click here .

The sailing world struggles with homophobia, misogyny, elitism and other forms of discrimination prevalent in other sports, Szymanski said. Rainbow Races creates a safe community around the sport which tries to counter those problems, he said.

Despite its issues, due to the collaborative nature of sailing, it’s also “probably the most friendly sports arena I’ve experienced,” Szymanski said.

“Sailing is a true team sport,” he said. “You have to trust your crewmates with your life, and you also have to support each other.

“Sailors are aware if we don’t evolve, we die … If the wind changes, you have to change with it.”

Chicago’s sailing community is robust, particularly with groups like the Park District, local yacht clubs and Rainbow Races encouraging new people to explore the sport, Fugate said.

But with a massive lake as Chicago’s backyard and “a very strong maritime history” in the city, the community could definitely stand to grow, Szymanski said.

Yachtapalooza is a free “casual meeting of the minds” that can help spread the joy of sailing and boating and change a misperception that the community is only for the ultra-rich, Szymanski said.

Million-dollar yachts “are great to look at and to dream about, but when you get down to it, Chicago is a blue-collar city,” Szymanski said. “A lot of the folks trying to buy boats are probably younger and more [budget-conscious]. It makes this a really unique opportunity to bring people in, in a very casual, unencumbered way.”

Boatyard Guide 2021

The hunt for the perfect boatyard for regular maintenance, repairs or a major refit project can be tedious as Southern California offers a wide range of full-service boatyards, each with its own specialties and staff of skilled craftspeople.

The Log ’s 2021 Guide to Southern California Boatyards (including facilities in Mexico) aims to serve as a starting point for boaters in search of the right repair and haulout facility for their individual needs. This guide provides key data about Southern California boatyard options, including areas of specialty and on-site amenities, to narrow down the many choices.

I‘m looking for a California shipbuilder that built a German Frers/Chad Turner 41’ Sloop back in the 1984. The builder was named „New Orleans Marine & Marina Sailboat Yard California by Nautor, USA (E. Feo & D. Choate)“. Could you give an indication to who / where this was? Any advice is appreciated!
