Ghost PepperRFL

Ghost Pepper is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2: Reflourished and the second plant obtained in Holiday Mashup . She is unlocked at Holiday Mashup - Day 4 .

Ghost Pepper attacks by haunting nearby zombies both in front of and behind her, dealing steady and continuous damage.

Ghost Pepper haunts and deals 30 damage every 0.5 seconds to each zombie in a 1x4 area around her. After 10 seconds from when she haunts her first zombie, Ghost Pepper will explode, dealing 450 damage to all enemies in a 3x3 area.

Additionally, Ghost Pepper is immune to most attacks from zombies, including transformations that make the plant passive ( Wizard Zombie and Octo Zombie ), and can be planted directly on water tiles in Big Wave Beach without the aid of a Lily Pad and sewers in Steam Ages .

Almanac entry [ ]

Ghost PepperAlmanac

Ghost Peppers haunt zombies that pass by and explode after a limited time. You might not know it looking at her, but Ghost Pepper didn't always wear that white sheet everywhere she went. She first put it on as a lark for a Halloween party one year. Everyone else had these elaborate costumes, and she thought that it would be funny to dress like a plain ol' ghost. But she fell in love with that costume. It spoke to her. She'd found her calling.

Plant Food effect [ ]

When fed with Plant Food , Ghost Pepper haunts all zombies in a 3x4 area, dealing a total of 1120 damage over 3.5 seconds. The Plant Food effect will also reset Ghost Pepper's duration, allowing Ghost Pepper to stay on the lawn longer, similar to the Plant Food effect of Puff-shroom .

Strategies [ ]

Ghost Pepper is one of the more unique instant-use plants in the game, in that she deals lingering damage in a long area that leads to an eventual explosion. Altogether, she acts as a great all-around instant use plant, able to handle all phases of the game with enough damage to clear away most hordes, while being strong enough to greatly weaken tougher zombies. Combined with her rather cheap sun cost, relatively fast recharge and imperviousness to (almost) everything, Ghost Pepper can basically be summed up as one of the most optimal counters to the zombie horde, reliably clearing lanes that would otherwise trouble the player.

Ghost Pepper's ghostly properties make for a great pick in various scenarios. Any special zombie ranging from Explorer Zombie , to Excavator Zombie , to Octo Zombie , will completely ignore Ghost Pepper, giving her similar flexibility to the non-permanence of most instant-use plants. Within Big Wave Beach and Steam Ages , Ghost Pepper is particularly useful for her ability to float, letting her be used without assistance via Lily Pad and be planted where most single-use plants cannot. Additionally, shoveling upgrades can be used to greatly reduce Ghost Pepper's overall cost - up to a mere 35 sun per planting - although doing so sacrifices the final explosion that comes from letting her expire. Ghost Pepper's Plant Food effect furthers her crowd control, both wiping out a huge area of standard zombies and resetting her timer, allowing her to dominate the lane she is in for extensive periods of time.

However, Ghost Pepper isn't completely impervious to the surrounding environment. Ice blocks and arcade machines that get pushed around by their respective Troglobites and Arcade Zombies can crush a Ghost Pepper that shares the same tile. Certain ranged attacks such as Hair Metal Gargantuar's shockwaves and Gargantuar Prime's lasers can also hit and destroy Ghost Pepper if planted in an inopportune range. Freezing winds in Frostbite Caves are just as chilling as with any plant, and can freeze Ghost Pepper and her timer in place if left without warming.

Notable competitors to Ghost Pepper come in the form of Lava Guava and Noctarine . While Ghost Pepper can deal with zombies spread out over one lane, Lava Guava deals stronger, concentrated damage to a single tile and Noctarine deals weaker damage over multiple lanes. Both alternatives disappear from the board after they start dealing damage, letting them skirt Ghost Pepper's aforementioned weaknesses. They also have different advantages to Ghost Pepper: Lava Guava's fiery traits are great for keeping warm in Frostbite Caves; Noctarine can be planted over other plants (good with ground plants like Spikeweed and Olive Pit ) and directly synergises with shadow plants, both powering other shadows and dealing greater damage when powered himself. Overall, Ghost Pepper stands as the most flexible option for her faster recharge, moderate range and Plant Food effect, but depending on the situation, it may be better to consider her alternatives.

Balance changes [ ]

Initial launch, version 1.1.4.

  • ▼ Sun Cost : 100 -> 125
  • Developer note: Despite the sun cost increase at launch, Ghost Pepper has remained a strong early game plant capable of wiping out big clumps of zombies. A small cost increase should keep it in check while still allowing her to damage and defeat big clusters of zombies.

Ghost Pepper is a gemium plant which was released in the 2.9 update for the Lawn of Doom event, she haunts and deals 30 damage every 0.5 seconds to each zombie in a 4x1 area around her. After 10 seconds from when she haunts her first zombie, Ghost Pepper will explode, dealing 450 damage to all enemies in a 3x3 area.

Additionally, Ghost Pepper is immune to most attacks from zombies, including transformations that make the plant passive ( Wizard Zombie , Octo Zombie and Archmage Zombie in the Chinese version ), and can be planted directly on water tiles in Big Wave Beach without the aid of a Lily Pad .

She can be bought for gems during Lawn of Doom, and other various event sales, though her gem cost often fluctuates between 80 and 109 gems.

GhostPeppers.jpg

The ghost pepper , also referred to as Bhut jolokia , is one of the spiciest chili peppers in the world.

Ghost Pepper's name also refers to her spectral appearance, and her ability to harm zombies by haunting them.

Almanac entry

Note: Ghost Pepper costs 100 sun in the Chinese version . Note: The stats shown below only apply to Level 1.

Plant Food effect

When fed Plant Food , Ghost Pepper haunts all zombies in a 4x3 area, dealing a total of 1120 damage over 3.5 seconds. The Plant Food effect will also reset Ghost Pepper's duration, allowing Ghost Pepper to stay on the lawn longer, similar to the plant food effect of Puff-shroom .

Pepper-mint effect

When boosted by Pepper-mint , Ghost Pepper gains an additional 60 damage for her normal attack, and an additional 200 damage per tick for her Plant Food attack.

Level upgrades

*This column shows Ghost Pepper's haunting damage. Her explosion damage does not increase through upgrades. ^Per hit. Ghost Pepper's Plant Food effect does a total of 7 hits.

Mastery upgrades

  • Chance to Boost
  • Damage Pierce

Costumed  (China only)

When given Plant Food, Ghost Pepper now deals more damage and stuns the zombies in range.

Level upgrade  (China only)

Compared to other instant-use plants, Ghost Pepper trades overall firepower and area of effect for increased damage-dealing duration, shorter recharge time and general ease of use. Therefore, she will find more use in aiding other offensive plants against high priority, but low health targets such as Wizard Zombies , Octo Zombies and Turquoise Skull Zombies , rather than high health zombies like Gargantuars . Compared to Lava Guava , Ghost Pepper has greater range and, therefore, will be better suited against faster enemies, while Lava Guava deals more damage in a much smaller area, and will be more useful against slower enemies.

Ghost Pepper should ideally be planted in areas where large groups of zombies will walk through. Frostbite Caves may provide such choke points in certain slider tile placements, but the player can also utilize Garlic and Sweet Potato to create choke points of their own. Stunning or delaying zombies with plants such as Stunion and Stallia can also increase Ghost Pepper's efficiency by forcing zombies to stay in her area of effect for a longer time period. With Shovel Boost, Ghost Pepper can also be dug up just after she explodes to be refunded some sun prior to 5.0.1.

Ghost Pepper is a highly valuable asset for the player in Big Wave Beach . Not only can she be placed on water tiles without the help of Lily Pad , but she is resistant to most of the local zombies' otherwise dangerous zombies: Surfer Zombie and Octo Zombie will not attempt to target Ghost Pepper, while Fisherman Zombie will usually reel past Ghost Pepper, and can only eliminate her by pulling a plant right next to Ghost Pepper. Ghost Pepper is also highly useful in Dark Ages , especially against Wizard Zombies, as she is one of the few plants that cannot be transmuted by them.

Ghost Pepper should not be planted near the player's house in Far Future , as Gargantuar Primes will often shoot their laser beams in that area and shorten Ghost Pepper's duration. Additionally, frozen blocks and arcade machines can crush Ghost Pepper like any other plants, so the player should be careful when using Ghost Pepper against Troglobite and Arcade Zombie . If you must to, plant her behind so she can kill the zombies without harm.

Please note that only official translations are used.

  • Despite Ghost Pepper's almanac entry confirming that her ghostly appearance is a Halloween costume and nothing more than a white sheet, an official reddit post written by Stephan Notley , author of most of the almanac entries in the franchise, states that Ghost Pepper doesn't wear clothes and is in fact an actual ghost.
  • However, none of them can be placed above the water in Pirate Seas .
  • She is the first plant related to the Lawn of Doom event.
  • Sun Bombs can destroy her if the player collects the sun before landing.
  • Gargantuar Prime 's laser beams from its eyes can reduce her lifespan, yet cannot completely burn her.
  • Mecha-Football Zombie cannot push her directly. However, she can still be pushed by Mecha-Football Zombie if the plant in front of her gets pushed.
  • Zombie King when his throne falls onto her.
  • Surfer Zombie will not target her. However, if he gets killed while he's near her, his surfboard may fall onto her.
  • Fisherman Zombie can kill a Ghost Pepper when he is next to her and hooks a plant behind the Ghost Pepper even when planted on the spot before appearing.
  • Troglobite and Arcade Zombie when they push an ice block or arcade machine respectively, onto her.
  • Imp Porter can crush Ghost Pepper when he drops his backpack / tent .
  • Hair Metal Gargantuar 's sonic blast can reduce her lifespan.
  • If rammed by Dr. Zomboss or burned by a flame tile (despite being a spectral being immune to flames), she will instantly explode. The boulder trap will simply kick her off the lawn, even though it should only pass through her.
  • She is the only plant except for instant-use plants that cannot be transformed into sheep by Wizard Zombie .
  • She will not explode if her timer is triggered right before the level ends, similarly to Puff-shroom .
  • After the 1.8 update, however, they all got the normal lawn background.
  • According to the credits, she is voiced by Damian Kastbauer.
  • Before April 1, 2018, even though her "hair bow" costume was otherwise fully implemented, it could not be obtained in the international version. In the Chinese version, it is obtainable via Puzzle Pieces. Ghost Pepper also has her hair bow on in a sticker in the Sticker Pack .
  • If a Boombox Zombie plays his jam at the same time Ghost Pepper is attacking zombies, it will still play the "haunting" animation, but will not deal any damage.
  • Caulipower shares this trait.
  • During the Lawn of Doom 2017 event, she only could be purchased as a bundle with Jack O' Lantern and Witch Hazel . During the second week of the event, however, she was added to the store costing 100 gems.
  • She and Shadow Peashooter are the only Lawn of Doom plants to not return in Plants vs. Zombies Heroes .
  • Jester Zombie's reflected projectiles will pass through her.
  • After Snapdragon gained the ability to warm plants, Ghost Pepper is now the only plant in her family vulnerable to frost but can kill Imp Dragon Zombies .
  • Despite her ghostly abilities and fire-free function, Ghost Pepper is in the Pepper-mint Family instead of the Enforce-mint / Enchant-mint family, as the real Ghost Pepper remains a pepper plant known for its extreme flavor.
  • Ghost pepper can get her duration shortened if planted inside a vine plant and said vine plant gets hit by a "instakill" attack from a zombie (gargantaur, turquoise skull zombie, etc.)
  • There is a glitch that allows you to purchase it at anytime. Simply go to the almanac click on ghost pepper. (Or any other seasonal plants) and click get more seed packets where you can buy her with gems.

Specific to the Chinese Version  (China only)

  • Additionally, when she attacks, the sound effect from Sun-shroom's Plant Food ability is also heard.
  • She is an Orchestra plant despite not having anything to do with music or performing. This may be a reference to the famous play Phantom of the Opera .

  • 3 Almanac entry

Ghost Pepper was a store bought premium plant which could be purchased with 180 gems and couldn't be imitated .

She haunted zombies three tiles in front of her, and two tiles behind her, dealing continuous damage to them.

She could also randomly do a special attack, temporarily increasing her range to now attack in three lanes instead of one.

Origins [ ]

Ghost Pepper2

Ghost Pepper is based on the plant with the same name and similar ability in Plants vs. Zombies 2 , who in turn is also based on the Bhut jolokia , one of the most known as one of the spiciest chili peppers in the world.

Her special attack is based on her Plant vs. Zombies 2 appearance's Plant Food ability. Her almanac flavor text is also lifted directly from Plant vs. Zombies 2 , albeit in Chinese.

Almanac entry [ ]

Gallery [ ].

  • Despite appearing to be able to hover, she required Lily Pads in order to be planted on water.
  • She no longer had a limited life span. In turn, she no longer caused an explosion from being destroyed.
  • Rather than deal small amounts of damage over time, she dealed large amounts at once.
  • After the 3.10 update, her sound effects were changed to be identical with her Plants vs. Zombies 2 version.
  • From concept art it can be seen that she was originally supposed to hypnotize zombies, similar to Caulipower .

Unlike vanilla, frozen blocks and arcade machines can NOT crush Ghost Pepper like any other plants as she will phase through them instead. So you can safely use Ghost Pepper against Troglobite and Arcade Zombie regardless of position.

  • However, only Rotobaga and Ghost Pepper can be planted in air column in Sky City , as Caulipower is too heavy and merely hovers, instead of flying.
  • She is the first plant related to the Lawn of Doom event. The second is Jack O' Lantern , and the third is  Witch Hazel .
  • If one hears closely, she sometimes sounds like a Ghast from the game Minecraft .
  • Additionally, when she attacks, the sound effect from Sun-shroom 's plant food ability is also heard.
  • She is the only plant in Pepper-mint family that can kill Imp Dragon .
  • She is the second plant in the Pepper-mint Family that can be frozen. The first one is Snapdragon .
  • Despite her ghostly abilities and fire-free function, Ghost Pepper is in the Pepper-mint Family instead of the Enforce-mint /Enchant-Mint family.

Ghost Peppers haunt zombies that pass by and explode after a limited time. Special: won't follow minecarts, therefore flying on railways Special: can be planted on tides Pro Status: -7.5s recharge, doesn't work at nighttime You might not know it looking at her, but Ghost Pepper didn't always wear that white sheet everywhere she went. She first put it on as a lark for a Halloween party one year. Everyone else had these elaborate costumes, and she thought that it would be funny to dress like a plain ol' ghost. But she fell in love with that costume. It spoke to her. She'd found her calling.

SUN COST: 100 RECHARGE: 22.5

Plant Food effect [ ]

When given Plant Food , Ghost Pepper haunts all zombies in a 3x5 area, dealing 700 damage total, and resetting her timer.

Costumes [ ]

Strategies [ ].

Compared to other instant-kill plants, Ghost Pepper trades overall firepower and area of effect for increased damage-dealing duration, shorter recharge time and general ease of use. Therefore, she will find more use in aiding other offensive plants against high priority, but low health targets such as Wizard Zombies and Turquoise Skull Zombies , rather than high health zombies like Gargantuars and Mecha-Football Zombies .

Frostbite Caves may provide such choke points in certain slider tile placements, but the player can also utilize Sweet Potato or Void Orchid to create choke points of their own. Stunning or delaying zombies with plants such as Stunion and Stallia can also increase Ghost Pepper's efficiency by forcing zombies to stay in her area of effect for a longer time period.

Ghost Pepper is also highly useful in Dark Ages , especially against Wizard Zombies, as she is one of the few plants that cannot be transmuted by them. Jester Zombies cannot deflect her attacks either, and her damage and explosion can help heavily damage, if not destroy nearby tombstones .

Ghost Pepper should not be planted near the player's house in Far Future , as Gargantuar Primes will often shoot their laser beams in that area and shorten Ghost Pepper's duration. Additionally, frozen blocks and arcade cabinets can crush Ghost Pepper like any other plants, so the player should be careful when using Ghost Pepper against Troglobite and Arcade Zombie . If you must to, plant her behind so she can kill the zombies without harm.

  8. Ghost Pepper Manual

Ghost Pepper is arguably the greatest plant in Plants vs. Zombies 2, but can also be hard to use when not in the right hands. If a plant like Nightshade can get a guide (and get stickied), then so should Ghost Pepper. This is how you properly use Ghost Pepper. Ghost Pepper has two phases, which I dub "attack" and "surrender" mode.

Its fire based attack and Plant Food ability are based on the " Will-o'-the-wisp ", a mythological "Ghost Fire" in European folklore often sighted in bogs, swamps and marshes. This is a play on how "Jack-o'-lantern" also serves as an alternate name for the Will-o'-the-wisp. Note: The stats shown below only apply to Level 1.
