Key considerations before buying a yacht include your preferences, intended use, and staying informed about the market. Attending yacht shows or chartering can help define your needs. Working with a knowledgable broker ensures accurate pricing and a seamless buying experience.

How do I buy a yacht?

Speak to your Y.CO Broker who will advise on pricing, offering market comparisons and analysis reports. They will also arrange sea trials and inspections, supported by Y.CO's technical team. Your Y.CO Broker will collect documents and collaborate with all parties for agreement completion.

Can I View the Yacht Before I Purchase?

Yes - in fact it is highly recommended to view as many yachts as possible during the purchase process. Your Y.CO Broker will assist in creating a shortist of yachts, organise private visits, accompany you on board and will help you ask the right questions.

What Happens after Offer Acceptance?

After acceptance of the offer, a sea trial and haul out will be arranged on your behalf. This allows your Y.CO broker, our technical experts and an independent yacht surveyor to verify that all the systems on board the vessel perform as specified.

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection took delivery of its second ultra-luxury superyacht, Ilma , on Friday at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint- Nazaire, France. After two years of construction , the delivery ceremony marked the final build milestone, celebrated with several maritime traditions, including the changing of flags on board the yacht and a celebratory toast on top of Ilma’s expansive pool deck.

The delivery ceremony was attended by company leadership from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, including Jim Murren , Executive Chairman and CEO, and Ernesto Fara , President and CFO, along with representatives from Chantiers de l’Atlantique, including Laurent Castaing , General Manager, and Arnaud Le Joncour , Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Project Director. Also in attendance was Captain Steve MacBeath and over 350 of the yacht’s Ladies and Gentlemen, who will participate in a series of preparation voyages before welcoming guests for Ilma ’s maiden voyage from Monte Carlo on 2 September 2024.

“Today marks the culmination of a shared vision and the relentless pursuit of excellence, a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of all those involved,” said Jim Murren, Executive Chairman and CEO of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection . “We are deeply grateful to the exceptional teams here at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, whose hard work and passion have brought this vision to life.”

“ Ilma represents a collaboration of two likeminded organisations committed to excellence, offering the best in both hospitality and shipbuilding,” said Arnaud Le Joncour, SVP Sales and Marketing of Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Program Director .

“The design and construction of Ilma has been a distinctive project for Chantiers de l’Atlantique that has elevated the highest luxury standards in terms of guest experience, technical innovation, and craftsmanship. We are incredibly proud to deliver an ultra-luxury cruise product that achieves both elegance and performance.”

Named after the Maltese word for “water,” Ilma measures 241 metres and accommodate up to 448 guests across its 224 suites. Each suite features floor-to-ceiling windows and a private terrace. With one of the highest space ratios at sea, Ilma includes two new, spacious upper category suites offering ample outdoor space to lounge and soak in the enchanting scenery.

Harmoniously blending contemporary craftsmanship with a relaxed ambiance, Ilma showcases refined interior finishes envisioned by renowned London-based architectural and design firm AD Associates and award-winning lighting designer DPA . The yacht’s exteriors reflect the vision of Helsinki-based design studio, Aivan , drawing inspiration from the graceful aesthetics of private yacht design. Continuing to bring the legendary service of The Ritz-Carlton to sea, the yacht boasts one of the highest staff-to-guest ratios in the luxury cruising category, providing nearly one staff member for every guest.

In addition to unparalleled accommodations, Ilma features five restaurants, seven bars, a wine vault, and signature spaces such as an expanded Marina with a mezzanine feature and The Ritz-Carlton Spa® with 11 treatment rooms. The yacht’s amenities include three distinct fitness spaces and a dynamic pool and entertainment area on Deck 10. A reimagined onboard destination is the Beach House , a vibrant Pan-Latin restaurant and global beach-house inspired lounge space conceptualised with Toronto-based luxury design firm Chapi Chapo Design, which will transport guests to a waterfront haven with 180-degree views.

Reaffirming The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s commitment to implementing more sustainable practices, Ilma features four dual-fuel engines utilising liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel source. Additionally, Ilma is equipped with the latest in energy efficiency measures and advanced water treatment systems, with the goal of minimising environmental impact.

Ilma will build on The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s vision of reimagining luxury cruising, offering travellers more opportunities to enjoy the highly tailored itineraries for which the company is recognised. Ilma will join the company’s inaugural yacht, Evima , in sailing to iconic yachting destinations and hidden gems throughout the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

In the summer of 2025, Ilma will explore the North and Baltic Seas of Northern Europe, offering guests the opportunity to discover dynamic cities like Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Reykjavík, and more.

X-Yachts is thrilled to announce its cooperation with renowned yachtsman Jesper Radich. Radich will lead X-Yachts’ 2025 racing program as the skipper of their XR 41 yacht.

The all-electric Tridente is nothing if not dashing. It joins other electric boats affiliated with sports car marques, including the Frauscher X Porsche 850 Fantom Air and BMW-designed Tyde foiling electric boat . The Maserati has a much more conventional look than the other two.

The Tridente debuted alongside the car manufacturer’s newest electric vehicle, the Grancabrio Folgore, meaning “lightning bolt” in Italian. Maserati’s head of design, Klaus Busse, was on hand for both launches. Busse, a genial and strikingly tall German, had this to say about Maserati’s design approach, and Italian design overall: “If you look at the design of the Porsche 911, for example, you can see the Germans evolved it little by little over time—as if they are on a road to the idea of perfection. But with Italians, every ten years or so, they break everything and start with something fresh and new.”

Somewhat ironically, the Tridente seems to pull more from the German school of thought. Sleek and classic looking, there is nothing groundbreaking about the aesthetics. The boat has the familiar design language of an old Riva runabout—gently cambered bow deck, tumblehome in the after section—though built with modern materials and colors, and adorned nearly everywhere with the Maserati emblem.

But when the Tridente first pulled into view beside the lake’s breakwater, and the dark-blue water shimmered off its steel-gray hull, for a moment the machine looked almost surreal. It was stunning.

The boat is built around a carbon-fiber hull for rigidity and weight savings, and the fit and finish meets the standards one might expect: soft leathers, tight stitching, and a general feeling of solidity to the seating. This model seats eight comfortably, with wraparound seating at amidships and a scooped-out section aft that is, in effect, a giant sunpad. The cabin is tiny, but could fit a child who needs a nap out of the sun.

Maserati enlisted Vita Power, the EV marine company, for Tridente’s electric propulsion system. The boat is powered by four batteries that weigh 3,200 pounds, which explains the choice of lightweight carbon fiber for the hull. The entire boat displaces 11,400 pounds, about 2,000 pounds less than a Riva Aquariva 33. That light weight, paired with the equivalent of 600 horsepower, lets the Tridente accelerate like a proper sportscar.

When I pinned the throttle I felt real G forces pressing me into the captain’s seat—common for a high-performance raceboat, but rare for an electric vessel. The helm is a simple setup: a center touchscreen and two throttles. The reported top end is 46 mph, but I saw 42.6. At a 25-knot cruise, the Tridente has a 43-mile range, more than enough to get from Monaco to Cannes on a single charge.

Maserati says the batteries can be topped off in under an hour via a fast-charging DC connection. Running at cruise, the Maserati manifested the nimbleness requisite of a boat in this class, slicing cleanly through S turns and hard overs.

There were no waves, but I did send the Tridente through its own wake and was pleased with the way the hull split the chop. In the end, it proved a very fun boat to drive and looked exceptional with the lake and mountain backdrop.

The price may well be a bit much for most boaters to swallow, even if it’s the coolest superyacht tender on the planet. But if you want what is arguably the world’s most advanced and best-constructed electric boat, the Tridente fits the bill, an evolutionary leap for a classic-looking Italian runabout.

Luxury Yacht Registered to Famed Author Arrives in St. John’s

A super yacht, reportedly belonging to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is in St. John’s Harbour.

The 88.5 metre luxury yacht Samsara arrived today after recently docking in Halifax.

The vessel previously operated as a luxury charter, offering accommodations for 12 guests in seven suites, but was reportedly sold to Rowling last year.

The vessel is valued at $150 million dollars US according to online sources.

There is no word on whether the yacht is carrying the famed author, but it generated great interest from Potter fans and others alike while docked in Halifax.

Justice Clarence Thomas Might Actually Face Consequences For Undisclosed Luxury Yacht And Private Jet Travel

I t would seem Supreme Court corruption is untouchable, but last week Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) introduced a formal request to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland for the opening of an investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas . Separately, this week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York filed articles of impeachment against not only Thomas, but fellow justice Samuel Alito. Thanks to crack reporting from ProPublica , the world was made aware last year that the SCOTUS justice has been accepting millions of dollars worth of lavish vacations, yacht trips, and international jet-setting on the dime of Republican billionaire megadonor Harlan Crow , breaking with public servant laws and disclosure norms.

For over 20 years Thomas and his wife have been traveling at the behest of Crow, despite the lifetime-appointment public servant’s requirement to keep to a strict ethical code. This includes a requirement to disclose gifts and any non-government income over $415 value, which he has repeatedly failed to do. The 2023 ProPublica report elucidates Harlan Crow’s contributions to Thomas and his family, including a yacht trip to Russia with private helicopter travel to St. Petersburg, allowing Justice Thomas’ mother to live rent-free in a home owned by Crow, and paying Thomas’ grandnephew’s private $6,000 per month boarding school tuition.

“Justice Thomas and Alito’s repeated failure over decades to disclose that they received millions of dollars in gifts from individuals with business before the court is explicitly against the law,” reads the Ocasio-Cortez statement.

The Whitehouse/Wyden letter, dated July 3, made public that Senate investigations have found evidence of “repeated and willful” omissions, including gifts and income, from Justice Thomas’ required annual financial reports.

“Appointment of a special counsel would serve the public interest,” Whitehouse and Wyden wrote. “The public must have confidence that the judiciary and the Department of Justice execute their responsibilities fairly, impartially, and without respect to political expedience or partisan interests.”

Thomas has claimed that that he didn’t think he there was a requirement to report the trips, as he was advised early in his tenure that they were “personal hospitality.” He has repeatedly stated that the trips were not chartered or requested by him, he was simply tagging along with Crow on his annual trips out of friendliness.

In addition to the Russia trip, Clarence and Ginni Thomas have reportedly travelled aboard Crow’s 162-foot superyacht, the Michaela Rose, to visit Indonesia, Savannah, Georgia, New Zealand, and Greece. It seems that the majority of these trips have also included flights aboard Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 private jet. Non-yacht-involved trips also include annual stays at Crow’s private Adirondacks resort and his Texas ranch. I wonder why a right-wing billionaire real estate developer would want to curry so much favor with a sitting judge in the highest court in the nation. Probably just a coincidence. This whole investigation is more than likely a witch hunt. No witches here!

The 76-year-old Justice Thomas is the court’s longest-serving judge, receiving his appointment in 1991 by President George H.W. Bush.

Is North Korean leader Kim Jong Un taking a family vacation? 

Satellite imagery shows that the Kim family’s 80-meter (262-foot) cruise ship – complete with a waterslide and an Olympic-sized swimming pool – is out at sea. 

Some experts say Kim's recent public appearance on land makes it very unlikely that he was on board but others said he may have been.

According to satellite photos taken June 27 and July 5 by Planet Labs, an American commercial satellite imaging company, the luxury cruise ship was identified as sailing off North Korea’s east coast near Wonsan, Kangwon province .

Kim is known to use this ship for recreational activities with his family or to entertain foreign VIPs.

Bruce Songhak Chung, a researcher at the South Korea-based Korean Institute for Security and Strategy who analyzed the satellite photos, told RFA Korean that it is likely that either Kim himself, or his family, took the cruise ship to the family villa on the Kalma peninsula.

“Only North Korean leaders and their families exclusively use luxury cruise ships,” he said. “As the summer vacation season approaches, it is presumed that General Secretary Kim may have visited a private villa in Wonsan to spend the summer with his wife Ri Sol Ju and daughter Kim Ju Ae.”

Chung noted that there was no way to tell whether Kim was on board, but that he might have been, considering that he had just finished leading an important meeting of the ruling Korean Workers’ Party’s Central Committee.

The plenary meeting lasted from June 28 to July 1, and on July 2, Kim visited factories and other government institutions with government officials. This makes it less likely that he was on board on June 27.

The cruise ship may have been on a test voyage in the earlier image, ahead of Kim’s vacation, said Cho Han-Bum, a researcher at the South Korea-based Korea Institute for National Unification.

He also noted that Kim was not with his wife Ri Sol Ju or daughter Kim Ju Ae during his public appearances.

“It is possible that Kim Ju Ae, Ri Sol Ju and other families have already gone on summer vacation,” said Cho. “Therefore, there is a possibility that Chairman Kim Jong Un, who finished the plenary meeting, completed local guidance and joined his family.” 

Getting around sanctions

Currently, North Korea has a total of four luxury cruise ships – with lengths of 50, 55, 60, and 80 meters (164-262 feet) – for Kim’s exclusive use. 

These cruise ships were obtained in the 1990s, during the rule of his father and predecessor, Kim Jong Il, before sanctions were imposed.

The sanctions, enacted after North Korea’s first nuclear test in 2006, are meant to deprive Pyongyang of cash and resources that could be funneled into its nuclear and missile programs. 

They are also intended to prevent the Kim family and other North Korean elites from getting their hands on luxury goods.

But they still trickle in. Recently, Kim Jong Un imported luxury cars, including a Russian-made Aurus Senat and a German-made Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

The recent surge in the value of the U.S. dollar against the won has made food prices in North Korea rise and has negatively affected the economy in general, but the Kim family continues to live the high life, said Cho.

“The problem with international sanctions against North Korea is that they have an effect on the entire national economy, but do not affect the upper class,” he said. “They import as many luxury goods as they want using various agents or aliases.”

He said sanctions are unable to target only the country’s leadership.

“As public sentiment deteriorates, it may lead to a weakening of Chairman Kim Jong Un’s support base, but the current sanctions against North Korea are not enough to prevent the Kim family from living a luxurious life.”

Special Requirements for IRS-CI Property

Lots offered by the IRS-CI are noted in the catalog. The IRS-CI reviews all bidders for IRS-CI offered lots and approval may take up to three (3) business days. This does not change the requirements for payment. Please call ahead before pickup to ensure that the IRS-CI has approved your purchase.

Some merchandise in this sale has a reserve price. When the auction closes, each lot will display either SOLD or ENDED. SOLD indicates the reserve (if there is a reserve) was met, and a payment email will be sent to the high bidder. ENDED indicates all final bids did not meet the reserve. In this case, CWSAMS will ask the seller if they will accept the high bid. If the seller accepts the high bid, an email notice confirming the approval will be sent to the high bidder, along with payment instructions.

Final Payment

All items must be paid in full within 48 hours (2 business days) from time the bid approval email is sent by bank wire or cashier’s check only. Cashier’s checks are made payable to CWS Marketing Group, Inc. See terms of sale for submission details. For lots that do not meet reserve, and the bid is approved after the sale, the Buyer will have 48 hours from the time notification is sent to make final payment.

Removal is the responsibility of, and at the expense and risk of Buyer. CWSAMS, nor the agencies represented, ship any property. If shipping is desired, it is the sole responsibility of the buyer. Therefore it is strongly recommended that buyers look into shipping arrangements prior to bidding.

OFFER PROCEDURES

Offers are accumulated weekly through each Monday at 4:00 PM ET. In the event a particular Monday is a Federal Holiday, the deadline is extended an additional 24 hours. The high offer on a particular vessel is submitted to the Seller for consideration the following business day. The Seller, at its sole option, may accept or reject with or without a counter offer. Responses typically occur within 48 hours, no response constitutes a rejection of theoffer.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 1 business day to deposit into National Liquidators escrow account, the greater of 10% of Gross Offer or $1,000.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 5 business days to complete any and all conditions listed above in the “Conditions Of Offer”. In any case, any remaining amounts due must be deposited into National Liquidators escrow account, within 5 business days after notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic). NOTICE REGARDING TITLING OR US COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION

National Liquidators makes no guarantees, representations or warranties as to title or the ability to document or register the vessel. National Liquidators are acting as a broker only and issues as to title, documentation and registration are between the Buyer and the Seller, owner or lien holder. The required $399.00 administrative fee covers National’s efforts to obtain titling and documentation information from the Seller; it does not include transfer of title or documentation to Buyer. National Liquidators can process transfer of title or documentation to Buyer an additional fee. Buyers that are interested in this service can contact National’s title department for details, including charges. Ohio Law requires National to transfer title (not USCG documentation) directly to Ohio residents only, a $150 fee is charged for this service.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SALES TAX

Purchasers must pay sales tax at the applicable rate in their respective states. The security deposit protects SalvageReseller.com should you fail to pay for the vehicle you purchased, as we are responsible for ensuring payment of awarded vehicles to Copart.

The security deposit must be a minimum of $400 or 10% of the bid amount (whichever is higher), as the amount of your security deposit limits the amount of your bid.

Yes, the security deposit is 100% refundable if you do not purchase a vehicle or if you request it upon meeting all payment terms. You forfeit your security deposits if you are awarded a vehicle and do not meet all payment terms and conditions.

You can pick up salvage cars for sale directly at the Copart facility where the vehicle is stored immediately after we receive the documents you need to sign, and the vehicle is paid in full. We don't ship vehicles but we can help you find a transportation company.

Payment must be made to Inloher Corp. with a deposit in our Bank of America account or by wire transfer, you CANNOT pay at any Copart facility. No other form of payment is accepted. The payment must be received and cleared within two business days of the sale in order to avoid the $50 Copart late payment fee. You will receive payment instructions in the Purchase Confirmation email.

Of course, actually we highly recommend to always inspect the vehicles before bidding, you can even inspect cars for auction before registering with us. You can visit the Copart facility where the vehicle is stored Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.30pm. Please remember that ALL VEHICLES ARE SOLD AS "AS IS – WHERE IS". ALL OFFERS ARE BINDING AND ALL SALES ARE FINAL , this means that you are buying it "with all faults" and without any warranty or guarantee of any type, express or implied. Any information regarding the cars for auction provided by the Seller, Copart or us is for convenience only. The titles can take up to 30 - 45 days for us to receive from Copart, even if it is not a pending title. Then, we will process them and mail them to you to the address on file or, in the case of Florida residents, process them at the tag agency, and you will receive them in the mail from Tallahassee. Please make sure you have all your documents signed, that you submit your ID and that you remove the vehicle on a timely manner as Copart will not mail us the title until the vehicle is removed from the yard. Florida residents must have the Power of Attorney, notarized and mailed to us, for us to be able to process the title.

Court denies US request to sell yacht it says belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch

A New York court has denied the U.S. government the right to sell a superyacht that it alleges belongs to sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov.

The ruling means that U.S. taxpayers will continue to foot the bill for roughly $740,000 a month for the 106-meter Amadea's upkeep and insurance.

The luxury vessel, with an estimated value of $230 million, is at the center of a legal battle over the enforcement of U.S. sanctions against Russia. American prosecutors allege that Kerimov and his proxies routed dollar transactions through U.S. financial institutions to maintain the yacht, which would constitute a sanctions violation.

In May 2022, the island nation of Fiji confiscated the Amadea and later transferred it to the United States. The U.S. government would like to sell the yacht and transfer the proceeds to Ukraine.

But that procedure, known as civil forfeiture, grew more complicated when another Russian billionaire, Eduard Khudainatov, who is not under U.S. sanctions, claimed the Amadea actually belongs to him.

In court filings, the Justice Department has termed Khudainatov a "straw owner" for Kerimov. Khudainatov denies that.

The legal battle over Amadea could take a while. Until it concludes, the U.S. government is paying roughly $600,000 for the yacht's upkeep and $140,000 for its insurance each month.

In a bid to decrease those expenses, the U.S. government requested permission to sell the vessel and convert its value into cash. That practice is relatively common in civil forfeiture cases when an asset is rapidly depreciating in value or its upkeep is excessively costly.

But on Tuesday, the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York ruled that the cost of maintaining Amadea was not "excessive."

To assess "whether the maintenance costs of the Amadea are excessive, the court must not look solely at the total dollar amount of the maintenance costs, but must principally consider whether those amounts are more than what is usual as compared to the maintenance costs for other similar yachts," the judge wrote in the ruling.

The U.S. government could not prove the expenses met that standard, the court ruled. The Justice Department has the right to appeal the decision.

Two days after the ruling, lawyers representing Khudainatov and the company that directly owns the Amadea filed a memorandum opposing the U.S. government's efforts to strike Khudainatov from the case. Prosecutors allege that Khudainatov is not the yacht's actual owner, meaning he lacks standing to contest its forfeiture.

But the memorandum, which includes declarations from yacht employees and contractors, argues that Khudainatov is the true owner and, thus, the Amadea is not subject to forfeiture at all.

The U.S. government's attempts to strike Khudainatov from the case are "nothing more than a desperate attempt to steal the Amadea by default," Adam Ford and Renee Jarusinsky, counsel for Khudainatov and the ownership company, said in a statement.

"Mr. Khudainatov is, and always has been, the rightful owner of the Amadea," they continued. "We are confident that the truth will prevail and the boat will be returned. Until then, this costly burden that the government has placed on the American people will continue to grow heavier."

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Item description.

A dramatically set 2.4 cm tabular sapphire crystal dominates this sculptural and rich corundum specimen from this less well-known Urals locality. The textbook hexagonal crystal has classic sapphire-blue color, high luster and moderate translucence. The feldspar matrix holds at least eight more striking, stacked, tabular crystals. The back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. RARE and very seldom on the market material with a fine provenance from the Kay Robertson Collection # 11938 and formerly in the Fersman Museum Collection in Moscow. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
