M/Y Renaissance is a 116-feet full walk-around Hargrave Yacht that was launched in 2016. She has a Jack Sarin performance hull, C32 Caterpillar main engines, and is equipped with At-Rest and underway stabilizers. The yacht features an interior design by Yacht Interiors by Shelley, with a contemporary Décor that boasts timeless furnishings, neutral carpeting, and soft recessed lighting.

The yacht has five staterooms, including an on-deck master. The salon has a generous lounge with a sofa, occasional chairs, coffee tables, and entertainment system. Forward of the salon is the formal dining area, which is separated from the lounge by a partial divider wall with glass etching. Large windows surround the space, and forward to the Hallway is a well-appointed day head/powder room.

Exterior living aboard the Renaissance spans two decks. The shaded aft deck is adjacent to the salon and features an al fresco dining option, seating, and bar area. The bow has an intimate seating area with a cocktail table, perfect for guests seeking a place to read a book or have unrestricted views of the unique ports, coves, and anchorages that the Renaissance can take you to, thanks to her shallow draft of 5 feet and 11 inches.

The sundeck is an excellent space for entertaining and socializing, with an al fresco dining area, large wet bar with stools, a deluxe Jacuzzi, large sun pad, cocktail table, chaise lounges, and a hardtop for shade. On the starboard side is the "Second Galley" of the yacht with a state-of-the-art gas-operated barbecue station with two grills and double Sub Zero refrigeration/freezers.

Hargrave Yachts for Sale

One of America’s top shipyards, Hargrave has been producing yachts since the 1950s. Over the decades, the Hargrave shipyard has established a reputation for progressive designs and speedy sports boats.

When the company was originally founded by nautical designer, Jack Hargrave, design was the main focus and Jack worked with other leading US brands such as Burger and Hatteras for the boat construction. Hargrave’s designs played an important role in the independent success of those brand names as well.

Whilst continuing to design yachts, the company added yacht construction to its offering in 1997, following the death of Jack Hargrave in 1996. Hargrave then became known as Hargrave Custom Yachts.

The shipyard has enjoyed continued success and now builds a variety of yachts from 68 – 136ft (21 – 42m) in length. For the construction of larger vessels, Hargrave has a number of collaborative options and international partners. For over 30 years Hargrave has worked with the Taiwanese shipyard, Kha Shing, and recently larger vessels, such as the 136-foot (42m) DREAMER, have been built in Turkey.

The Hargrave shipyard enjoys strong repeat business from existing clients and remains a key name in the yachting industry. Recent statistics showed that over 52% of Hargrave owners have built more than one yacht with the yard, and some are onto their third, even fourth, new Hargrave.

History of Hargrave Yachts

The Hargrave shipyard was founded by nautical designer, Jack Hargrave, in 1957 and is widely regarded as one of the top shipyards in the United States.

Through the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Hargrave was largely a design office, collaborating with other builders for the construction of Hargrave-designed vessels.

Following the death of Jack Hargrave in 1996, former Hargrave employee Michael Joyce returned to the company after an absence of twenty years and took over as President and CEO. Recognizing that Hargrave had the potential to be far more than just a design office, Joyce pursued new yacht construction with full force.

Joyce was a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for yachting. A keen innovator, Joyce embraced the changing times and technological advancements that came through the late nineties and early noughties and presented custom yachts between 80 – 150 feet (24 – 45m) to the marketplace.

Joyce stepped down as president of Hargrave in 2007, in favor of Michael DiCondina, but remains the full share-owner. Mike DiCondina and his team were selling and delivering new Hargrave yachts throughout the decade-long recession and at that date of handover he had the vision to expand into larger yachts. Now Hargrave builds up to 136-foot (42m) boats.

The Hargrave collection

The first Hargrave motor yacht was delivered in 1999 and Hargrave quickly made a name for itself, winning numerous awards for its sporty tri-deck motor yachts and sportfish-inspired vessels. This first Hargrave-built vessel was 87-foot (26.7m) long and was named HOUND DOG.

Hargrave shipyard has enjoyed several decades of steady advancement and brand awareness. The yard prides itself on building a wide variety of yachts ranging from 68ft to 136ft (21m to 42m) and also has a number of collaborative options for the construction of larger vessels.

Notable vessels from the Hargrave range include 138-foot (42m) DREAMER, launched in 2010, and the 115-foot (35m) RENAISSANCE, which was delivered in 2015 and built in collaboration with Kha Shing Enterprises.

The Hargrave shipyard continues to enjoy steady repeat business from existing clients and their largest build to date, which measures 184 feet (56m) was for a three-time Hargrave owner. This 184-foot superyacht was launched in 2019 and is named BABA’S. Motor Yacht BABA’s is of steel construction and was built to RINA classification. The luxury yacht has accommodation for 12 guests and 5,000nm range.

Hargrave 105 Superyacht Review

“I love my Hargraves because of one thing,” says a serial Hargrave owner on his third yacht. “Mike Joyce never says no.”

Joyce is the CEO of Hargrave Custom Yachts , whose latest 105, Irresistible , exemplifies numerous ways the builder tailors its designs to what each owner wants.

Irresistible , for instance, has a raised pilothouse, creating an all-weather backup to the flybridge helm. The bridge is open, but it’s shaded by the fiberglass hardtop, rather than having a sky lounge on board. That’s already a lot of personalization based on the starting point of a new Jack Sarin-designed hull that tops out at 21 knots and cruises at 18 knots. In addition, this owner was planning 1,000-nautical-mile voyages, so he opted for twin 1,600 hp Caterpillar C32 Acert diesels. Irresistible reportedly has a 2,000-nautical-mile range at 10 knots. Based on my time aboard, I can report that the hull is also comfortable in Gulf Stream lumps.

The yacht has a widebody design, so the salon spans the full 23-foot beam, allowing for a formal dining area forward and an entertainment space aft, all with 7-foot-2-inch headroom. The salon connects through oversize sliding doors to the aft deck, where alfresco dining and lounges await.

The country-kitchen-style galley—a design feature on many Hargraves—is forward with seating for guests. The marble countertop stretches 7 feet, 6 inches for meal prep and plating.

The pilothouse is likely to be a gathering place underway and is fitted out with an L-shaped settee and table, plus an office for the skipper.

Curving stairs from the salon lead to the full-beam owner’s suite, which has a California king berth (6-by-7 feet) and an 11-foot walk-in closet more than 4 feet wide—plus two more closets. The feeling is that of a liveaboard second home. Off the foyer are two guest staterooms, one with twin berths that slide together and the other with a queen.

There is a VIP stateroom forward, with stairs from the galley. The VIP has a queen-size berth and, like the other staterooms, an en suite head with a shower large enough that Joyce notes with a grin, “You can pick up dropped soap.”

The bridge is likely to be an alfresco salon for entertaining, with a dining table, a bar with four stools and space aft for a hot tub. This still leaves room for a pair of PWC or a tender launched via the Quicklift 2,000-pound hydraulic crane.

Irresistible’s crew quarters are abaft the engine room. The captain has a double berth in a private cabin with an en suite head, while two crewmembers are in another cabin, also en suite, where, at 40 inches, the berths are wider than twins. There’s also a crew mess area with a galley and dinette/lounge.

Speaking of crew, they will have space in the engine room to maneuver around the big Cat diesels and the pair of 38 kW Northern Lights gensets. There are full diamond-plate walkways like the ones aboard yachts 30 feet longer. Built to DNV and American Boat and Yacht Council specifications, the yacht’s systems are readily accessible and labeled. Any exposed fiberglass clearly shows the yard’s expertise in laminating the foam-cored hull and superstructure.

Irresistible was built with a 13-page list of standard equipment ranging from triple Glendinning shore-power cords to Naiad stabilizers and bow thruster to a decor from Yacht Interiors by Shelley of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I found Irresistible , well, irresistible as a long-legged offshore cruising yacht or a second home.

It’s no surprise that more than 50 percent of Hargrave owners are on their second, third or even fourth build. When Joyce says, “Sure, we can do that,” he means it.

31m Hargrave 102 yacht Sassy embarks on maiden voyage to the Bahamas

Hargrave Custom Yachts has handed the 30.8-metre Sassy over to her owner. The superyacht will now undergo her maiden voyage to the Bahamas.

"Once this boat was unloaded from the ship, it went straight into final commissioning and there was not even a remote chance of doing a photo shoot," explained Mike Joyce, CEO at Hargrave Custom Yachts. He also promised that Sassy would receive the "full photo treatment" upon her return.

The raised pilothouse model can accommodate eight guests and four crew. Her Interiors, courtesy of Yacht Interiors by Shelley , are yet to be disclosed. Initial imagery reveals ample lounge spaces, including on the sundeck whose helm and seating are partially sheltered by the hardtop. There is also a swim platform that doubles as tender storage. She follows a 28.9-metre delivered in 2003 and a 31.1-metre delivered in 2016 under the same name.

The news follows the launch of the 36.1-metre Romeo Foxtrot II , commissioned by a third-time Hargrave owner. Once delivered, the owners will embark on a "once-in-a-lifetime season" cruising the Mediterranean.
