Italy luxury yacht charter

Awash with elegant cliff-top villages and tempting cruising grounds around every corner, a luxury yacht charter is one of the best ways to discover all that Italy has to offer. Whether cruising around the unspoilt Aeolian islands, touring the impossibly pretty towns of the Amalfi coast and picture-perfect Capri , hitting the hotspots of Sardinia or revelling in the world-famous cuisine, culture and heritage of Tuscany and its islands, the  Italian Riviera is always a good idea for a summer yacht charter.

Italy yacht season and weather

The peak summer months of July and August provide warm, sunny days with highs of 30°C. During August, many Italians take the entire month off work, meaning resorts and coastal areas are very busy. June and September offer quieter cruising grounds and very pleasant temperatures.

Climates do vary from north to south, with the south generally experiencing milder winters. In October, Sicily often has long, warm sunny days with temperatures still in the mid-20s.

Italy yacht charter itineraries

La Spezia’s Porto Lotti can accommodate yachts up to 180 metres and Porto Mirabello has capacity for yachts up to 140 metres – both good jumping-off points for Portovenere and the Cinque Terre. Rome Marina Yachting is in the port of Civitavecchia and has berths up to 100 metres. The marina is an hour and 15 minutes from Rome by car. On Sicily , Marina di Riposto is an ideal base for visiting Mount Etna and Catania, is six nautical miles from Taormina and has moorings for yachts up to 80 metres. Porto Cervo marina on Sardinia has moorings for yachts up to 120 metres. Porto di Mergellina in Naples has moorings for up to 75 metres.

Awash with old Hollywood glamour and synonymous with Italian aristocracy, the Amalfi coast is one of Italy’s most famous and coveted cruising grounds. Departing from Naples and the shadow of the volcanic peak of Vesuvius, charterers can venture 20 nautical miles to the low key isle of Procida, then take a 10 nautical-mile passage to the volcanic wonders of Ischia, hop south to the famed isle of Capri before cruising 20 nautical miles to Amalfi and the neighbouring gems of Ravello and Positano. For those wanting a mix of city and sea, charters can also make an overnight passage and arrive for sightseeing in Rome.

The island of Sardinia is a superyacht magnet and its famous Costa Smeralda attracts the yachting elite every summer. Mixing Michelin restaurants and five-star hotels with kaleidoscopic bays, sublime beaches and celebrity haunts such as Porto Cervo, Sardinia is one of the hottest charter destinations in Europe.

Charters in the Tuscan archipelago are equally bewitching, with the islands of Elba, Gorgona, Capraia, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri home to pristine shores, stunning coves and charming villages steeped in history. The islands form a convenient stepping stone between the coastline of Tuscany and Corsica, allowing charterers to combine the delights of Italy and the French island in on trip.

Further north the pearls of the Ligurian coastline, the UNESCO protected Cinque Terre, comprise the picture-perfect towns of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore cling to the cliffs, while romantic Portofino is a must-visit.

For natural wonders and more off-the-beaten-track adventures, the volcanic Aeolian Islands lie 25 miles off the north-east coast of Sicily and provide a varied and stunning itinerary. Sicily itself has also catapulted onto the charter scene, with an enticing mix of secret grottos, secluded coves and glittering beaches.

Italy by superyacht

Getting to italy.

The mainland has a host of international airports that handle commercial and private aircraft including those in Naples, Rome and Pisa.

Sardinia’s three airports of Olbia, Alghero and Cagliari all handle commercial and private jets.

Catania and Palermo airports in Sicily handle private and commercial aircraft.

Common charter routes in and out of Italy include crossings from the Adriatic and Croatia, and crossings from the French Riviera and western Mediterranean.

Legal requirements

Official documentation required from the crew for charters must be sent to the Italian authorities at least two weeks prior to arrival.

Yachts based in the European Union, on which VAT has already been paid or is not applicable, are welcome to enter Italy from any other EU country without having to undergo customs formalities. Vessels arriving from outside the EU must report to customs on arrival, however. The current VAT rate of 22% is reduced for yachts depending on how much time they have spent cruising in waters outside of the EU.

There are some local laws concerning where to anchor and swim, which can be punishable by fines. It is illegal to swim in an Italian harbour, so swimmers must dive in further out from shore.

Except when entering or leaving, motoring within 300 metres of the shoreline is forbidden. It is also prohibited to anchor within 200 metres of a beach in Italy.

Let us organise your perfect Italy yacht charter itinerary.

Our expert brokers know the cruising grounds intimately, both personally through first-hand experience and in real time through contacts on the ground. Your itinerary will be tailored specifically for you to deliver the holiday you want.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

The day concludes with your yacht anchored in Marina Piccola, as you savor a delectable dinner, surrounded by the island's breathtaking scenery.

Capri to Positano

Awakening to the gentle sway of the yacht, you bid farewell to Capri and sail further along the Amalfi Coast to the captivating town of Positano. Along the way, you revel in the pleasures of the Mediterranean, stopping for refreshing swims and snorkeling in secluded coves. As Positano's iconic pastel houses come into view, you can't help but be enchanted by its beauty. Anchoring in the picturesque bay, you explore the town's winding streets, visit quaint boutiques, and indulge in a sumptuous dinner, captivated by the romantic ambiance.

Positano to Amalfi

Continuing your coastal adventure, your Odyssea yacht glides towards Amalfi, an ancient maritime republic that still exudes grandeur and charm. Gazing up at the imposing Cathedral of St. Andrew, you are immersed in history as you explore the town's architectural wonders and quaint squares. Before sunset, a visit to the Emerald Grotto adds an ethereal touch to your day. In the evening, you dine at a local trattoria, savoring authentic regional cuisine while sipping on fine Italian wine.

As your Odyssea yacht leaves Amalfi behind, you cruise towards Sorrento, a town perched atop cliffs overlooking the stunning Bay of Naples. Sorrento's citrus-scented air welcomes you ashore, inviting you to wander its charming streets adorned with boutique shops and artisanal crafts. Savoring the local Limoncello liqueur, you relish the breathtaking views from the clifftop gardens. Back on your yacht, you toast to the day's adventures and enjoy a delightful evening under the stars.

Sorrento to Ischia

The yacht gracefully sets sail for Ischia, an alluring volcanic island known for its therapeutic hot springs and lush landscapes. As you approach the island's harbor, you marvel at the imposing Aragonese Castle, perched on a rocky islet, offering a glimpse of Ischia's intriguing history. Taking a relaxing dip in the natural hot springs, you feel rejuvenated, and the evening is spent sampling the island's delightful cuisine in a charming local restaurant.

Ischia to Procida

Leaving Ischia's tranquility behind, you head to the lesser-known gem of Procida. This hidden paradise captivates you with its pastel-colored houses and laid-back ambiance. Strolling through the charming fishing villages, you find yourself immersed in the simplicity and authenticity of this unspoiled island. Enjoying a leisurely afternoon, you soak up the Mediterranean sun on your Odyssea yacht's deck before indulging in an exquisite Italian feast.

Procida to Naples

On the final day of your Odyssea yacht charter, you sail back towards Naples, reflecting on the incredible journey you've experienced along Italy's breathtaking coastline. Mount Vesuvius on the horizon reminds you of the region's historic significance. After docking in Naples, you can explore the city's bustling historic center, wander ancient streets, and taste the world-famous Neapolitan pizza, a perfect finale for your unforgettable yacht charter adventure in Italy.

Yacht Charter in Italy

Heed by Azimut - Top rates for a Charter of a private Superyacht in Italy

Italy yacht charter

Known for its romantic charm, chic coastal towns, and world-famous cuisine, Italy is a yacht charter paradise. There's plenty of things to do with coastal towns and cities on the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. Take your pick from family-friendly seaside resorts to high-end party hotspots, and rugged and remote islands and beautiful locations to explore. There is over 7,200 km of coastline in Italy, creating an abundance of yacht charter itineraries perfect even for the most discerning of elite travelers.

How much to charter a yacht in Italy?

Italy is blessed with beautiful weather and plenty of seaside towns and nearby islands to explore. It's no surprise that all kinds of yachts cruise along the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas on any given day, marveling at the beautiful scenery and dropping off anchor to enjoy the charming towns and ports' spoils. To charter a sailing yacht in Italy can cost you around $6,500 for a week's rent. This type of boat includes five cabins for ten people on board and has a length of 51 feet. A catamaran, on the other hand, can cost around $11,000 for a week's charter. This type of yacht features four cabins for eight people, with a length of 52 feet. And lastly, a motor yacht that's 88 feet in length can cost around $43,000 for a week's rent in Italy.

What are the most popular yacht holidays in Italy?

Italy offers a vast diversity of destinations. Italy has it all from quiet and relaxing islands to party hotspots to luxury hilltop towns favored by the rich and famous. The Italian Riviera is recognized as the most stunning destination for yacht charters in Italy. It is found on the Mediterranean Sea and renowned for its upscale restaurants, cultural landmarks, and centuries-old architecture. The towns of Liguria, Portofino, and Rapallo are the most popular spots to moor a yacht charter, as well as Cinque Terre, a group of former fishing villages that are now popular vacation spots. On the Riviera tip is the region of Tuscany, which is a captivating destination for a yacht charter.

Additionally, a yacht charter in Italy is never complete without a visit to the Amalfi Coast. Romantic, beautiful, and lush, Positano, Capri, and Sorrento's seaside towns offer breathtaking scenery, pastel-colored houses on hilltops and cliffs, and romantic venues. If you're on the search for the perfect honeymoon destination in Italy, then a yacht charter to the Amalfi Coast will offer you the most romantic experience you can ever have on a yacht charter. There are limited beaches in the Amalfi Coast, but its lack of white sand beaches is overshadowed by the beauty found onshore. Explore the ancient villas of Capri, stroll around Ravello's manicured gardens, and visit the thermal spas on the islands of Procida and Ischia, which were formed through volcanic activity.

But if you're looking for more rugged landscapes, Sicily and the Aeolian Islands are your best bet. The Aeolian Islands' crystal blue waters are a sight to behold, where you get to hop from one volcanic island to another and witness a steaming volcano on Stromboli. In Palermo, the Gothic architecture and famous palm-tree lined streets will take you back in time, and if you desire to spend a day on a beach, head to the town of Marsala for some peace and quiet, and unspoiled beaches. Further from the mainland of Italy is the island of Sardinia, close to the French island of Corsica. It offers an entirely different side of Italy where sandy beaches abound. Explore the La Maddalena archipelago, or visit Porto Cervo, a luxury yacht charter haven, where you can find high-end shops and designer emporiums in town.

Where to go on a luxury yacht charter in Italy?

The Italian Riviera will find the most luxurious yachts hopping from one coastal town to another. Porto Lotti in Liguria offers 506 berths and accommodates boats with a maximum length of 100 meters. Offering the perfect jumping-off point to explore the Riviera, you can explore dramatic coastlines, colorful seaside towns, and delicious regional cuisine in your Italian Riviera yacht charter. Naples, or Napoli, features more than 18 marinas and is the perfect destination for yacht charters in Italy. Most charters start or end in Naples, which is also one of Italy's most visited cities.

And of course, a trip to this Western European country is never complete without visiting Venice. Considered to be among the most romantic cities in the world, a yacht charter can take you to the islands off the coast of Venice on the Adriatic Sea. And when you drop anchor on the Venice Yacht Pier, where you will find 25 berths and accommodating yachts up to 120 meters in length, you can explore the city's web of canals, renaissance architecture, romantic and charming bridges, and narrow cobbled streets. There's an essence to Italy that can only be experienced through a luxury yacht charter. With beautiful waters, some of the world's most enchanting coastal towns, and natural beauty captivating the most seasoned yacht enthusiasts, Italy is entirely best enjoyed through a yacht charter on the Adriatic or the Mediterranean.

Lipari Island. Yacht Chartering in Italy.

What kind of yacht can you charter?

There are several options for chartering an Italian yacht: motor yachts, catamarans, power catamarans, and sailboats. Crewed yacht charters are the best way to see the Italian coast and islands compared to a bareboat charter in Italy. Or you can do a skippered yacht charter.

Motor Yachts

Motor yachts provide a classic nautical experience with various features on board. These yachts are a great way to explore Italy’s coasts and islands, providing a luxurious and speedy journey. With plenty of space, they have more amenities, such as jacuzzis, gyms, saunas, and theater rooms. Motor yachts can also carry more giant water toys, such as jet skis, and bigger tenders for watersports.

Italy superyachts and megayachts , typically 80′ long or more, also can come with helicopter landing strips, basketball courts, and other equipment. This can include ATVs or small underwater vessels.

Yacht CHARTER in Italy

-- our company, marina yacht charter, international catamaran rental, italy’s most attractive destinations.

Marina Yacht Charter rents catamarans for private cruises in Sardinia, Tuscany, and the Amalfi Coast, carefully selecting the best itineraries to create the perfect vacation. We only propose destinations and itineraries that we ourselves enjoy exploring during the summer.

Brand new fleet

Our fleet is entirely new: as a company policy, we do not rent catamarans that are more than 3 years old. This means that by choosing Marina Yacht Charter, your private cruise in Sardinia, Amalfi, or Tuscany will be experienced on a catamaran built between 2021 and 2024.

Bareboat or skipper-included rentals

Marina Yacht Charter’s catamaran rental service is highly flexible. Depending on our clients' needs, we can rent our catamarans bareboat or with a skipper and hostess included: an entire team working to provide you with the most relaxing sailing experience ever.

Smooth Sailing with MYC

At MYC, we've got your back with technical assistance and continuous support throughout your sailing adventure. Our team of savvy tech experts is always ready to provide any information or help you might need. Before you set sail, let's get to know each other a bit better.

-- LIFE ON BOARD

Sailing the gemmes of italy.

A vacation spent on one of our catamarans means a week (or two!) of complete immersion in Italy’s marine beauties. We always suggest an itinerary, but you are completely free to personalize your vacation based on your family or friends’ needs and preferences. A vacation like this creates unforgettable memories for every age: kids love the fun part of always being in the middle of the sea, and adults just love the feeling you get when you experience Italy’s coasts from an exclusive point of view.

We have created a video summary of our clients’ experiences with us that shows how a vacation spent cruising on a catamaran is based on sharing. Sharing food, sharing experiences, sharing spaces: our catamarans can hold up to 12 people with double and single bedrooms with all the comforts needed.

-- HOW IT WORKS

High-level personalization in three simple steps.

The high level of personalization that we care to offer our clients doesn’t allow us to book directly on the website. Just select a destination and your preferred dates, then let our cruise experts take care of you: we will provide you with the best solution based on your needs and ideas.

-- WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

We’ve never seen anyone come back without a smile.

Choose your luxury yacht, when is the best time to visit italy on a yacht.

Italy enjoys the magical Mediterranean climate, where warm and sunny summers melt into relatively mild winters. This means that the luxury yacht charter season in Italy extends from early spring through late autumn, allowing for an extended window of opportunity to explore the Italian coast. July and August are the peak months for luxury yacht charters, featuring the highest temperatures and busiest waters. Meanwhile, April to June and September and October are much quieter on the coast but ideal for those looking to cruise without the crowds.

Must-visit destinations on your Italy yacht charter

Italy is a living museum showcasing millennia of architecture and art as cultural riches abound. Ancient ruins, medieval towns, and iconic landmarks decorate its towns, from the Leaning Tower of Pisa to the Roman Colosseum. Italy’s artistic heritage also cannot be missed, as it is the birthplace of renowned artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, with museums and galleries showcasing their masterpieces. Another treasure is Italy’s world-renowned cuisine, applauded for its deliciousness and diverse array of regional dishes, always served with unmatched hospitality.

Cruise the stunning Italian Riviera, famous for its centuries-old seaside villages in the vibrant Cinque Terre. Discover the Amalfi Coast, admired for charming and colorful towns built into cliff sides and crystalline waters that spill into captivating coves. Gawk at Positano from the deck of your yacht or visit the nearby island of Capri for a lavish exploration of its glamorous streets. Dive into Corsica and Sardinia, two enchanting Mediterranean islands with rugged landscapes and standout beaches. Corsica, the birthplace of Napoleon, boasts dramatic mountains, quaint villages, and luxury hotels, while Sardinia entices with its ancient ruins, turquoise waters, and renowned cuisine. The Sicilian coastline presents a more rural experience at sea, with cruising dominated by the largest active volcano in Europe - Mount Etna. And you can’t skip the Aeolian archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage Site offering an island hopping experience enhanced by active volcanoes, thermal pools, rock formations, and black sand beaches.

Your crew and captain will fulfill your wishes no matter what you’d like to see on your Italy yacht charter. Contact our charter consultants today to choose the perfect yacht for your luxury vacation.

6 Tips For Choosing The Best Yacht Charter Experience

C hartering a yacht is the ultimate in custom vacationing, a travel trend that gained traction during COVID and shows no signs of stopping. It offers travelers an opportunity to reach their dream destinations in comfort, style, and exclusivity. The best part: Very often, this bespoke experience can be cheaper than a cruise on a higher-end line you’d have to share with a lot of strangers!

Here are six tips for choosing the best yacht charter experience to suit your style, tastes, and holiday goals!

1. Work Within Your Budget

For most travelers, money is indeed an object, or at least a big consideration. A great charter company has a fleet of vessels at its fingertips, from smaller options such as a catamaran or sailing yacht all the way up to a super yacht with ultra amenities. Their team will work with you to assess your travel budget and offer appropriate options. Keep in mind: There’s all sorts of costs — such as fuel, docking fees, and other extras — that factor into a vacation like this. Some companies roll most of those items into a blanket price, others will calculate them separately or in an overage fee called an “advance provisioning allowance.”

Quick Example: Last year, I sailed on the super yacht Ohana in Croatia. It was part of the Goolets charter group based in Slovenia, which charges a flat weekly accommodation cost; an advance provisioning fee is assessed for food, beverages, and any other extras. The lovely ship slept up to 30 guests quite comfortably and all-in at high season (with APF included) was about $143,000 a week. Steep? Sure, at first glance. But broken down per person, the cost comes out to about $4,300 for each friend or family member. That’s food, drinks, excursions, everything. So, it turns out this kind of travel can indeed be budget-friendly and a good charter will work with you to maximize your money.

2. Location, Location, Location

When considering a private yacht vacation, location is everything. The good news is that charter companies operate all over the world, from the aforementioned Croatia to Australia, the Caribbean, Indonesia, and everywhere there’s sea in between.

If you’ve got a dream destination on your bucket list, a private yacht vacation will help get you there. Choose a charter company that has deep bench strength in the region you want to visit. They’ll have a wide range of yachts and corresponding itineraries for you to consider, ensuring the perfect experience for you and your party. Whether you crave the party scene of Greece, Italy, or the Riviera, or prefer something more far-flung and secluded such as the Seychelles or Maldives, a yacht charter experience will have you covered.

3. Consider Your Entire Party’s Needs

Another big perk of a great charter company: They will handle all the onboard logistics during your cruise, considering your entire party’s interests, must-dos, mobility levels, and even special occasions in an easy, effortless manner. They will interview you ahead of time to assess your interests, then craft an itinerary that suits everyone from start to finish. Keep in mind, they know the local area, plus have access to the best guides and onshore experiences. They will pull out all the stops to make sure everyone in your group has a terrific time.

Culture vultures to party animals will have the perfect vacation planned for them by the yacht charter. From city walking tours led by historians to exclusive access to the best clubs and other hotspots, the charter company and your yacht’s onboard staff are there to make sure it’s all picture-perfect. And if you feel like scrapping your schedule for the day and choosing to stay on the water? That’s just fine, too. The crew will roll with your wishes and honor them.

4. Food And Beverages = Big Deals On Board

No question about it, fabulous food and hand-crafted beverages are central to a terrific private yacht experience. Again, this is where that thorough pre-interview really comes into play. A charter company will consider not just preferences, but any allergies, dietary considerations, or religious restrictions to make sure the chef is prepped accordingly. Expect special snacks and other surprise touches to shine through as well; during my charter, a special birthday cake was procured and presented to a young guest after dinner on his big day.

While the yacht’s team will make sure your food tastes just as spectacular as it looks, they’ll also likely lean into the regional culinary scene with locally sourced fruits, vegetables, meats, and of course, seafood! Keep in mind your yacht’s stewards are responsible for keeping bar service running smoothly; by the second day, they knew which mid-afternoon cocktail I fancied (Croatian sparkling wine) and which wines I preferred at dinner. My glass was never empty, until I signaled I was done for the evening.

Bottom Line: Your culinary service should be seamless and impeccable during your time on board.

5. Don’t Forget The Water Toys

Water toys are a big part of a private yacht experience — you’re on the water after all and want to make sure you can get out there and enjoy it. Look for a vessel that has a robust fleet of options that align with your party’s fitness level and recreation (or adrenaline!) goals. Kayaks, rafts, and jet skis are all fairly standard; some yachts also include seabobs, massive water slides, and even inflatable water playgrounds to ensure multi-gen fun on the water.

Pro Tip: Depending on the destination, divers will also want to inquire about scuba or snorkel equipment.

6. Find A “Your Wish Is Their Command” Crew

One of the best parts of a private yacht vacation is the bespoke service you’ll experience every step of the way; the goal is to make sure you want for nothing during your time on board. Craving a cucumber water while you’re lounging on deck? They’ll have it. Want to make sure there are snacks waiting for you after you return from kayaking? Of course! And want to take your dinner to another level? Crews take great pride in creating over-the-top table masterpieces and theme nights that will dazzle everyone in your party.

Of course, crews can and do accommodate more outrageous requests, but don’t be that Below Deck nightmare and ask them for something that’s illegal. It puts them in a terrible position where they could be held liable, and it’s just not cool.

Keep In Mind: A crew that provides excellent service deserves excellent recognition. Be kind and make sure you factor an appropriate tip into your budget. It’s very often not included in the price of the charter or advance provisioning fee.
