74-metre Amels 242 Launched
Launch season is officially under way at Damen Yachting. The latest Amels 242 has emerged from the drydock in the Netherlands. A milestone which marks the start of her final build phase ahead of her delivery in a few months’ time.
Seventh in successful 242 line
This 74-metre (242 ft) Amels is the seventh yacht to be launched from this successful Limited Editions design which features the signature exterior lines of Tim Heywood. The Owner has been represented throughout the build by Imperial.
Featuring unique customizations and equipped with the latest IMO Tier III package
Featuring custom interiors by Winch Design, Amels 24207 is a wonderful example of the Amels Limited Editions concept. Amidst a market where fast delivery times and build slots are becoming more challenging to come by, she will be delivered ahead of the summer season and within 18 months of her Owner stepping into the project whilst still featuring a number of unique customisations.
With a Gross Tonnage of 1,790, Amels 24207 accommodates 12 guests and 19 crew. She features a dedicated Owners Deck with foredeck jacuzzi and an increased capacity helicopter deck. The yacht is equipped with the latest IMO Tier III clean emissions power and propulsion package.
Into the next phase
“Seeing Amels 24207 head out of the shed, into the daylight and onto the water for the first time is a proud moment for the entire team at Damen Yachting. We are now looking forward to the next phase as we embark upon the final build stages and sea trials ahead of delivery to her Owner, ready for a summer of adventures at sea.” Peter Dijkwel, Project Manager Damen Yachting
The Amels Limited Editions range of superyachts offers a proven technical platform with custom interiors. Damen Yachting has delivered more than 40 Amels Limited Editions yachts since 2005.

Damen Yachting has delivered the Amels superyacht of 2024, the Amels 60 Satemi. This 60-metre superyacht is the fourth yacht to be delivered from the Dutch builder’s next generation Amels Limited Editions design.
Satemi will remain quayside at the Damen Yachting shipyard in the Netherlands for a few more weeks before departing on its maiden voyage straight to the Caribbean.
The Amels 60 Satemi features an exterior design by Espen Øino. Inspired by the customisations made to the second hull from the Amels 60 design, Satemi’s Owners opted for elongated window styling.

Interior and accommodation
The custom interiors have been created by Studio Indigo who were responsible for the original Amels 60 concept interior design.
The yacht features the Amels Limited Editions signature spacious sun deck, a large swim platform and an owner’s suite with folding balcony. Unusually for a superyacht of this size, this Amels 60 also features a foredeck with space to allow for a tender of up to 9-metres. With six guest cabins in total, Satemi can accommodate up to twelve guests served by thirteen crew, including the captain.

Hybrid power and propulsion
The Amels 60 Satemi also features a range of advanced equipment and technology, including an IMO Tier III-compliant hybrid power and propulsion system.
Captain Mattia Dzaja: ‘The benefits of this system and the reduced environmental impact are obvious, but what I love most is the additional safety it will provide us when we are cruising.’
Three more in build
With three more in build and the final delivery of 2023 having departed just a couple of weeks ago, the Amels 60 is quickly becoming one of the yard’s most sought-after designs thanks to the Limited Editions proposition of a proven technical platform and fast delivery whilst still allowing for customisation.

Damen Yachting launches two new Amels Limited Editions superyachts
Dutch yard Damen Yachting is celebrating the launch of two new Amels Limited Editions superyachts in a week: The 74-metre Amels 242 and the 60-metre Amels 200. On schedule for delivery in 2024, the yachts mark a milestone as the first pair of Damen Yachting models to hit the water in the same week. The yachts are expected for delivery to separate owners in 2024 and will be used privately.
The exteriors of both yachts are owed to designer Tim Heywood . The semi-custom line lends itself to a customisable interior and, by coincidence, both owners opted to commission Winch Design .
The launch of the Amels 242 will make it the eighth in the shipyard's range. A priority in the owner's checklist, the 1,790 GT yacht will be characterised by a Flag blue hull and an Oyster white superstructure, while the various vertical lines and stretches of windows stand out in a unique dark grey colour.
Winch Design carried the yacht's blue exterior and incorporated it into multiple elements throughout, including a wall of semi-precious agate blue stones as guests enter through the main entranceway. This is heightened by a range of blue marbles onboard, as well as blue mosaics scattered through the wellness area.
Peter Dijkwel, project manager at Damen Yachting, said: “The owner wanted something different, and that is certainly what he has achieved, especially with the variety of marbles”.
Further highlights include a dedicated owner's deck with a Jacuzzi, as well as a large aft swimming pool and lower wellness space. Accommodation is for up to 12 across six cabins, and guests will benefit from the ample dining and entertaining layouts on her multiple decks.
The fourth in its range, the Amels 200 is an evolution of the popular Amels 188 and "perfectly reflects the owner’s unique vision,” explained Tom Oomkens, Project Manager at Damen Yachting. She is typified by a customised Whisper Grey hull, which is subtly repeated in the exterior curves and arches, particularly around the superstructure.
While on board, the owner and his family intend to spend extended periods at sea exploring the Mediterranean – and will both work remotely and entertain friends and family. The result is the addition of a balcony on the main deck and exterior bars on every deck.
“There are many great details, for example, the windbreakers have been upgraded to feature a dark grey tone to mimic the windows. The owner had many exciting design ideas and is experienced – which benefitted the project hugely,” continued Tom Oomkens.
The yard is currently at full capacity, and these launches are making way for other new and exciting projects. According to BOATPro , there are five Amels yachts currently under construction.

Damen launches two Amels
The introduction of the two new vessels marks the first time damen yachting has launched two yachts in one day….
Damen Yachting has launched the 74m Amels 242 (pictured left) and the 60m Amels 200 (pictured right) this week. The new Amels Limited Editions superyachts are the first two yachts the Dutch shipyard has launched on the same day in its history.
Both yachts feature customised Amels Limited Editions exteriors by designer Tim Heywood, with the semi-custom offering allowing owners to design the interiors. Whilst unconnected, both owners opted to commission Winch.
For the owner of the eighth Amels 242, an eye-catching exterior colour scheme was a top priority. “The owner wanted something different and that is certainly what he has achieved, especially with the variety of marbles,” says Peter Dijkwel, Project Manager, Damen Yachting.
Opting for a Flag blue hull and an Oyster white superstructure, rather than traditional white, Winch Design took the blue exterior colourway and incorporated it into multiple elements throughout the interior. With delivery scheduled for June 1st 2024, the yacht can host up to 12 guests across six staterooms.
“This Amels Limited Editions superyacht is a great testament to the range and its flexibility – we can make anything work with this platform. That said, we couldn’t have done it without the consistent and positive cooperation with the owner’s representatives,” adds Dijkwel.
The fourth Amels 200 has evolved from the previous designs of the Amels 188. The Whisper Grey hulled yacht’s design revolves around the owner’s desire to spend extended periods at sea exploring the Mediterranean whilst working remotely.
“This yacht perfectly reflects the owner’s unique vision,” says Tom Oomkens, Project Manager at Damen Yachting. “For example, the windbreakers have been upgraded to feature a dark grey tone to mimic the windows. The owner had many exciting design ideas and is experienced – which benefitted the project hugely.”
Delivery is also scheduled for summer 2024.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
