Ilot Gabriel & Flat Island Catamaran Cruise on North Coast

Enjoy an unforgettable cruising experience onboard of one of our catamarans based in Grand Baie to the north islands. The catamaran motors out of Grand Baie at 08h00, heading for the islands, passing Gunners Coin, before reaching the lagoon between Ilot Gabriel and Flat Island. If you are lucky, you may see whales and dolphins during this fun adventure.

The Catamaran will set anchor in an amazing lagoon of Ilot Gabriel, you will get to disembark on a Flat island where you can swim and snorkel before lunch is served on board. Vegetarians are catered for too: notification should be given upon booking. You can then go and discover the white sandy beaches of Ilot Gabriel, enjoy a sunbath and simply relax and indulge in this perfect setting before embarking on board to sail back to Grand Baie. During the sail back, the Catamaran will stop at Gunners Coin for the last snorkel.

The expected arrival time back to Grand Baie is around 16h00. This cruise offers the combination of all 3 islands of the North.

Does the boat have a bathroom.

It has a flushable marine toilet for liquids only. The boat also has fresh water so you can rinse yourself from salt water.

Can we modify existing itineraries?

To some extent – yes. Sometimes we will have to because the weather isn’t always ideal and we want to stay in shallow, calm waters to keep the trip enjoyable.

Are there going to be other people on the boat with us?

If you have booked a private or a liveaboard charter NO else YES if you have booked our shared basis cruises.

Can we play our own music on the boat with us?

Absolutely. Our boats are equipped with sound systems that allow both a traditional jack as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

Are drinks included? Is there a cooler on the boat?

We have you covered as most of our cruises come with bottled water and soft drinks as well as ice cold beer, local Rhum & snacks. Should you need a bottle of champagne of spirits for a special occasion simply ask for our wine & spirits menu. We will make sure that the bottle/s you have ordered will be on board for when you cruise with us.

Departing in Trou D’eau Douce on the East and Black River on the west, our friendly skippers will show you Ile aux Cerfs, the Grande Riviere Sud Est waterfall, Ile aux Benitiers, the Crystal Rock, Tamarin bay and its dolphins and the most beautiful sunsets. These excursions can also be organised on a private basis.

East Coast: Ile aux cerfs & the Grande Rivière Sud Est waterfall (6h)

On the east coast, the clear waters of the longest lagoon in Mauritius are calling you… Against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, try and spot the peaks of the « Chat et la Souris » unmissable landmarks on the east coast. Then sail towards the GRSE waterfall, “eau bleu” and Ile aux Cerfs.

West coast: Ile aux bénitiers, Crystal Rock, Tamarin Bay and its dolphins (6h)

Discover the west coast in all its splendour!

Setting off from Black River, you’ll make your way to Tamarin Bay in search of bottle-nosed or spinner dolphins. Sail towards a snorkelling spot and then towards the famous ‘Crystal Rock’. And end this beautiful day on Ile aux Benitiers.

South East Coast : the Eco Tour on Ile Aux Aigrettes for nature lovers

Come Enjoy a Sunset Cruise on the Hakuna Matata

Departing from the Downtown West Palm Beach docks at Clematis Street & Flagler Drive, guests are in for a wonderful, picturesque experience as they cruise along the Downtown skyline enjoying the mixture of 125 years of historic and modern architecture from the water. Relax comfortably on padded seats or with feet dangling in the catamaran’s bow nets while the Atlantic’s water flows underneath.

The friendly crew accommodates the guests with a variety of tropical beverages, beer, wine and snacks while cruising past the Mega yachts at Rybovich and enjoying a variety of music from tropical to reggae, pop and classics. The cruise will head toward Peanut Island where the Historic Coast Guard station still stands next to John F. Kennedy’s famous bunker built in 1960. The return trip includes up close views of the palatial mansions of Palm Beach, the Historic Biltmore hotel and a view of the iconic Breakers Hotel. As we approach the dock upon return, catch a photo of the Flagler Museum or the spectacularly plush gardens of Society of the Four Arts. This is not a Narrated cruise (check out our Sightseeing cruises for Narration ) but be sure to ask your crew if you would like them to point out a few of the “highlights” along the way!

A portion of the boat is covered for those that prefer to sit out of the sun and plenty of seating and deck space throughout the boat to move around, take photos, socialize or dance. A restroom is available onboard along with all safety equipment, life vests and coast guard certified specs.

Traveling at the age of 20 with your friends is a guaranteed fun time but when you do amazingly fun excursions like the Makani Catamaran, it just makes your vacations a thousand times better! This was by far the best catamaran we have been on! The staff is AMAZING. The crew is so helpful and funny. They make you feel like your part of their crew for sure. We loved spending time on the water and hearing all they had to say about the islands and animals. The captain was great! We will be doing this again!

We saw a sea turtle and a group of dolphins followed us for a while and did some "tricks". No whales on this trip but the crew made the experience fun by telling jokes and talking about the animals.

I can't say enough nice things about our trip on the Makani Catamaran! The staff were warm and friendly, the drinks we're tasty and the views were breathtaking. We had the opportunity to stand in the Captain's Galley and take photos. Captain Jon was so accommodating and thoughtful - he even offered to take our picture. This is one experience you do not want to miss out on! Highly recommend.

The boat was in great shape, staff was very professional and committed to safety. I appreciated that more than anything. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting the Island, the views are well worth it. Great value trip!

So, full disclosure I was pretty skeptical that this would be fun at all. In fact, this was totally my wifes idea. That said, of all the things we did in Hawaii, this ended up being one of my favorites. We had been doing pushing ourselves pretty hard for several days up to this point and it was just really nice to sit back for a couple hours with drinks in hand and hang out as a family. We sat on the netting in the front and our 9,7, and 5 year old kids thought it was awesome to watch the water go by underneath and at one point even had some dolphins following us. 100% would suggest and will definitely do again.

I am so happy that I booked this during our trip to Hawaii. The crew was nice, hospitable, and very engaging. They made the sail super fun for everyone on board. Our captain was even able to show us sea turtles and a whale, even though we were not promised that when booking! Plus there was a full service bar and the drinks were awesome! I would definitely recommend to everyone. It is definitely worth it.

American Cruise Lines to Build Catamaran-Style Ships

American Cruise Lines recently revealed details of Project Blue—their brand new fleet of “go-anywhere” catamaran ships specifically built for cruising in the U.S.

Their innovative plans call for 12 identical sister ships, all with the signature catamaran hull. When completed, American Cruise Lines will more than double current capacity for domestic coastal cruises in the U.S.

Featuring a unique hybrid catamaran design, these distinct ships will focus on small town America and close-to-home cruise adventures.

Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines, said: “Project Blue started as a design challenge to create a boat small enough for New England harbors and stable enough for the Alaska Inside Passage, with a draft shallow enough for the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. These boats can run almost anywhere, and because there will be 12 of them, they will be deployed all over the United States.”

Like all of American’s new ships, the entire Project Blue fleet will be built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, MD.

The first two Project Blue ships are already under construction and are due for delivery in 2023. Each Project Blue ship will accommodate 109 passengers and 50 crew.

They will be 241 feet long, 56 feet wide, and feature the unique hybrid catamaran design. This will allow both shallow draft access and stable sailing along lakes, rivers, bays, and America’s coastline.

These new extremely agile ships blend the adventure of an expedition with the luxury of the finest river cruises.

“Together with Chesapeake Shipbuilding, we built the first modern riverboats in the country. Now we are proud to introduce another new ship design for domestic exploration. American has specialized in small ship cruising for over 30 years, and continuing to innovate and expand the possibilities for cruising close to home is central to our mission,” Robertson elaborated.

Observation and sitting areas will be available at the bow, both inside and outside. Each forward lounge on every ship will offer 270 degree views.

At the stern, you’ll find an adventure deck equipped with kayaks, tender, and other activity related options relevant to the itinerary.

The new fleet will feature elegant modern décor by Studio DADO of Miami, FL. Among the 56 spacious staterooms there will be a range of large standards, suites, and singles—nearly all with private balconies.

American Cruise Lines new catamaran ships will have two dining venues, plus room service; a feature not found on most small ships of this size.

The first two ships, American Eagle and American Glory , will debut with East Coast itineraries. Departures are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2023 and will cruise along the Chesapeake Bay, New England, and Historic South itineraries.

American Cruise Lines ships are 100% U.S.-built, crewed, and registered for over 30 years. American currently operates 15 ships, all accommodating just 100-190 passengers, that cruise more than 35 domestic itineraries in 31 states.

Tickets on sale for New England Aquarium’s whale watching cruises in Boston

People visiting Boston are in for a “whale of a time” this summer as tickets for the New England Aquarium ’s (NEAQ) 2024 whale watching are on sale now.

The NEAQ’s annual whale watching season, which is in partnership with Boston Harbor City Cruises (BHCC), is launching Thursday, May 16. The cruises last 3-4 hours and give guests an up-close experience with whales and ocean life off the coast of Massachusetts by heading to Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary.

“The start of whale watching season is our favorite time of year here at BHCC,” Bob Lawler, BHCC’s general manager and regional vice president, said in a statement. “Together with the New England Aquarium, we’re thrilled to continue to provide the unique opportunity for Boston-area residents and visitors to see and learn about whales in their natural habitat.”

The cruises’ high-speed catamarans have outdoor viewing decks and indoor spaces with large windows, so guests can get an ocean view from practically anywhere on the boat.

Passengers can also learn about whales from NEAQ naturalists, who serve as guides on the whale watching cruises. Drinks and snacks can be purchased onboard as well.

“At the New England Aquarium, we aim to inspire everyone to form a deeper connection to the ocean and take action to protect it,” New England Aquarium President and CEO Vikki N. Spruill said in the statement. “Education is at the core of our mission, and these whale watches provide a wonderful opportunity to experience the wonders of our blue planet first-hand.”

BHCC will be running multiple whale watch cruises a day. Cruises leave from Boston’s Central Wharf, which is located next to the aquarium. A schedule of upcoming cruises and ticket availability can be found online .

“As we look forward to the launch of Ilma, our commitment to expanding our superyacht fleet reinforces our vision of ultra-luxury hospitality at sea,” Jim Murren, executive chairman and CEO of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, said in a statement. “Ilma has been meticulously crafted to enliven the senses and elevate every aspect of our guests’ journey.”

Named after the Maltese word for “water,” Ilma showcases a sleek, superyacht-inspired exterior by the folks at Finnish studio Aivan and an elegant, light-filled interior by British firm AD Associates. Inspired by elements of Maltese mythology, coastline, history, and native fauna, the decor sees neutral tones juxtaposed by dark finishes and statement lighting by designer DPA. The curated art collection also includes “thought-provoking pieces that encourage guests to immerse in their surroundings,” according to Ritz-Carlton.

The 790-footer includes 224 spacious suites that can sleep up to 448 passengers. Each suite showcases floor-to-ceiling windows and private oceanview terraces that foster a connection to the sea. As with Evrima, Ilma has a collection of larger, more luxurious suites for seafarers looking to go all out. The Owner’s Suite, for instance, offers just over 1,000 square feet of living space, an in-suite bar, and a chic dining area. The crew-to-guest ratio is almost one-to-one, so you can expect personalized service akin to a five-star hotel, too.

Ilma will kick off her cruising career with a seven-night trip from Monte Carlo to Rome on September 2, after which she will embark on more voyages to the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
