The Na Pali coast tour was amazing, the views were incredible and the captain and crew were extremely helpful, knowledgeable and skilled in maneuvering the boat into sea caves and along the coast. We went with the fa ... mily, including two kids (5 &7 yo) and everyone loved the tour. The snorkeling was also a highlight and the crew had all the gear to make it safe and fun. Our lunch was also very yummy! And as a bonus we saw some dolphins that jumped and flipped out of the water for us, and also a sea turtle. We could not think of anything that could have been better.

Everyone should be so fortunate to experience this cruise - Na Pali is Majestic and beyond Beautiful, the entire ride over was relaxing, and the crew were informative, funny and passionate about sharing the wonders of th ... e place they call home. This IS paradise. Go on this cruise, you will never forget this wonderous, magical place and you will feel blessed to have experienced it at least once in your life. Enjoy!!!!

Change policy, do i need to be able to swim to participate.

You can simply enjoy the cruise if you do not know how to swim, though, for those who wish to try to snorkel it is recommended to have some skill in swimming; mind you it isn't necessary. Floatation belts are available on board if you are comfortable trying them.

What kind of boat will be used?

The 49-foot Na Pali catamaran, "Na Pali Kai III," with a capacity of 34 people, is incredibly fast and comfortable with unobstructed views (all forward facing seating). The boat is fully equipped with a fresh-water shower, spacious restrooms, and snorkel platform.

Is there a safe place to store my belongings while on tour?

There are no lockers aboard so we do not recommend taking valuables with you.

How far in advance should I book this activity?

We recommend booking at least 1-2 weeks in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements and are not flexible, please book sooner. Last minute availability is often possible, but limited.

Will we see whales?

Every year Humpback Whales migrate to the warm waters of Hawaii, and although not guaranteed, they are often seen between the months of December and April.

"The 35’ Deluxe Catamaran “Cadillac of the Caves” was AMAZING! Do not miss this when you’re in Kauai. Brian and Capt. Nate were fun, kind, knowledgeable, patient…all the things. They personally made sure every single person was comfortable and having fun the whole time. They shared tons of knowledge about Kauai and the Napali coast, played music, made us laugh, and were obviously capable and at ease on the ocean. The deluxe catamaran was big enough to be comfortable, but small enough to fit in caves and be an exciting ride. My husband and 7 year old sat in bench seats in the middle of the boat, while my 10 year old and I rode up front for a more exciting ride. We stopped to snorkel and they provided good equipment. They also put out snacks and drinks while we were in the water. They made sure everyone had enough time in the water and didn’t feel rushed back. Our family all took Dramamine the night before and again about an hour before we got on the boat, and we all felt fine the whole time. Do take similar precautions if you’re at all worried about sea sickness. I cannot recommend this company and experience highly enough. It was one of my favorite days ever! It was the experience of a lifetime to take in the gorgeous scenery in such a fun and exciting way. The experience and memories are worth the price. Book it!

Well, if you book online, you can save - I just did a dummie booking on Holoholo for tour, and you would save $15 per person. How old are your kids? I have only done the tour from the northshore, but that is where I was staying. If it is cheaper down south and you are staying there, I would probably do it from the south . . . I just don't think it would be worth driving down south if I were only staying on the northshore. Good luck! :)

I would read the reviews and look at pics from whatever tour companies you're looking at. Not everyone that posts reviews frequent the forum section and vice versa. So don't let the north shore crowd scare you out of other options :)

Not everyone says you have to leave from the north and not everyone spends that kind of money on a boat tour. Yes, the north shore tours are more expensive. The south shore tours from Port Allen or Waimea take you to the best spots along the NaPali just as the north shore departures do. It takes a little longer to get there but the tours are 5.5 hours long and don't cost as much. What's happening with the north shore tours is there is less competition. Fewer boats and the boats are small and take fewer passengers. All that speaks a higher price.

I just took a Captain Andy's Southern Star tour out of Port Allen and it was great. This is the premier boat of all of the large cats heading to NaPali. Lots of seating options and comfortable too. A real restroom and a good barbecue meal versus the cold cuts and chips. The first part of the ride , until we got to the Southwest tip of the island, had dolphins following us most of the way. I paid only $149 for this.

So, no, you don't have to leave from the north shore and pay the $200 price tag. It's not necessary for a family with two children to spend that and have a good time.

The ocean should be calmer when leaving from the North Shore. I've done a Capt Andys in the summer, and never again.

Holo Holo has discount coupons at Costco. The internet discounts are usually for 30 days out. Honestly, it is doubtful you can even get a reservation for a North Shore departure with arriving in a week, so you might be better off going from the south side. Save the money and go while at The Hyatt, but I wouldn't want to leave that resort.Call their concierge at The Hyatt. Sometimes they get discount tickets for guests. Take bonine.

Forgot to mention..... You won't be the only one who drove down from the north shore. I talked to plenty of people who drove down in the early morning to hop the 8 a.m. departure out of Port Allen. The ocean will not be flat at the beginning but as soon as you round the southwestern tip of the island it's the same water situation you'd have if you left from the north shore. It can differ day by day no matter which departure you take.

No difference in the snorkeling. No matter what departure point you pick they all stop at one of the handful of spots along the NaPali that looks good that day. It will depend on conditions. The odds are it will be the same general area no matter which tour you pick, north or south. Know though that the snorkeling is not as good as right from shore. And it's only for about 30 minutes. The boat has to stop to get ready for lunch so this is just something for the guests to do while that's happening. It's not the main reason for the tour but your kids will enjoy just getting in the water even if the snorkeling isn't good.

North Shore Charters, zodiac boat, we did it last year and it was a blast, $149 pp 7 years and older. We are doing this one in Sept. napalipirates.com $139 pp and children under 12 $119. the zodiac has better seating. Zodiac boat go in the sea caves.

Besides the money issue, you might want to consider the type of boat. We had thought about the Zodiac type raft and decided against it and went with a boat that had shade...so glad we did.

Although our Super Rafts do offer a smooth, comfortable, and mostly dry ride, it should still be understood that our boat tours bring you into the rugged Na Pali Coast , where things can and do get exciting.  Guests with the following conditions are not allowed on our tours for safety reasons:

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

In the unfortunate event that a cancellation is necessary, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of cancellation or rescheduling from the check-in time of your scheduled tour, (48 hours 1-4 passengers; 72 hours 5-9 passengers; 7 days 10+ passengers; 30 days for private charters).   “No Shows” and reservations canceled within the cancellation period will be assessed the full fare charge.  

WHEN DO I NEED TO ARRIVE FOR CHECK-IN?

Check-in starts 45 minutes prior to listed departure times, and all guests must arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to departure, to allow time for the captain to provide a necessary safety briefing and a short walk to the harbor.

Please be mindful, Kauai is a rural island, and there are frequent and on-going construction, tree trimming, utility work, and unforeseen delays are common when traveling around the island. Always allow more time than you think, we don’t want you to miss your tour!

WHAT TIME WILL WE DEPART AND RETURN FROM THE TOUR?

• Our morning boat tour leaves at 7:30am (check in 45 minutes prior) and returns around 12:30pm.
• Our afternoon Na Pali boat tour leaves at 1:30pm (check in 45 minutes prior) and returns around 6:30pm.
• We offer two time slots for our whale watching tours (Winter months).  The first leaves the harbor at 1:15pm (check in 45 minutes prior).  The second leaves the harbor at 3:45pm (check in 45 minutes prior).

WHERE SHOULD I PARK?

Kauai Offshore Adventures has parking located in the large gravel parking lot across from Port Allen Sunset Bar & Grill. Please park your vehicle on the right side (Harbor side) of this parking lot. For check in, please meet us at our retail location, look for the colored flags hanging from the awning and the sign for Captain J’s Kauai Offshore Adventures at 4353 Waialo Road, Suite 4B .

WHERE DO I CHECK IN?

Check in is at our retail/gallery located at the Port Allen Marina Center at  4353 Waialo Road Unit 4B in Eleele.

We are in the first building next to Kauai Sea Tours. Please park your vehicle in the designated gravel lot at the bottom of the marina center prior to checking in. Make sure to bring all necessary items for your tour with you.

WHAT IS PROVIDED ON BOARD?

Each guest will be provided a 10 LITER dry bag for their belongings. Space is always limited on boats so please ensure you bring only what clothing articles, medications and personal effects you will need. Also included is a full set of snorkel gear and fins for each guest participating in our snorkel adventure, although personal fins and masks are welcome. Light snacks (energy bars, sweets treats, trail mix), as well as ice cold seltzer water, tropical juices, Gatorade and bottled water, are provided.  All portions are individual sizes. This is an action-packed eco-adventure tour and not a booze cruise. We encourage you to participate in and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience with a clear mind.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

All guests are provided with a 10 Liter dry bag which has ample space for a towel, photography equipment, mobile phones, sunscreen and other small equipment or necessary medications. Other than what may fit in this dry bag, guests should travel light and only pack what they believe will be needed on board.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

All guests should wear shoes that can be easily removed and left in the dock bin, such as slippers/flip flops. Guests should be dressed with the expectation of getting wet, this means boardshorts and swim trunks for men and bathing suits for women as well as any other T-shirt/bottoms etc. that you don’t mind getting wet.

ARE LIFE VESTS PROVIDED?

Emergency life vests are available for each person on the vessel, including captain and deckhand. These life vests are for emergency use only, not to be worn during the tour and will only be issued should an emergency occur. If you require a vest for personal use for the duration of the tour, you must provide your own. We have child vests (up to 12 years of age, size and weight restrictions apply) available at check-in, these can be worn for the tour duration.

WHAT ABOUT WEATHER?

Safety is our number one priority. Tours will only commence if weather conditions are safe. Please keep in mind, we are in the open Pacific Ocean, and safe does not mean calmest conditions. Safe means the captain can safely maneuver the vessel through the current wind patterns, wave swells, and rainfall. We will never operate if it is unsafe to do so. Weather patterns vary by the hour on Kauai, and we are constantly monitoring all conditions. Please do not let the rain stop you, rainy days create incredible waterfalls, rainbows, and lush mountains Kauai is known for! Afterall, we are The Garden Island!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REACH THE NAPALI COAST

After departing from Port Allen harbor, we will be full speed ahead for just over a half an hour before reaching the beginning of the Na Pali Coast State Park . This stretch of our adventure takes us past the Robinson Estate, Waimea River Valley, 12 miles of largely open white sand beaches ending at Polihale and the gateway to the Napali Coast. This area is also frequented by pods of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins. You will also find yourself exhilarated by the full power of the Kaua’i Voyager I super-raft .

WILL WE GO ON LAND DURING OUR NIIHAU TOUR?

Niihau is privately owned and is restricted to only those of Native Hawaiian descent. Although we can venture anywhere along the coast of this remote island, we are not permitted to go on land. The tour will explore the reefs and features of the amazing Lehua atoll to the north of Niihau as well as the Eastern face of the island. Also on our Niihau tours, the captain will have the freedom to explore any part of the island that he deems fit based on the weather and will be sure to give you the best adventure possible!

WHAT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ARE TAKEN ON BOARD?

• Our vessel is fully inspected and certified by the Coast Guard.
• Life vests for each guest
• Two full sized life rafts which can be quickly deployed in the case of an emergency
• Our captains and crew are well trained and CPR/First Aid certified
• A safety briefing is given before each tour to ensure that everyone understands how to fully enjoy their adventure in the safest way possible.

WHAT IF I GET SEASICK?

Our tours are the smoothest available and seasickness is uncommon, but the far reaches of the Na Pali Coast can still be a bumpy ride. Guests who are concerned with seasickness should take a medication recommended by their physician as directed.

WILL I NEED TO SWIM ON THE TOUR?

On our Niihau and Napali snorkel tours, we will be stopping to snorkel and swim during the tour. At this time, we invite you to get in the water and enjoy. Guests who would prefer not to swim are welcome to stay on the raft and relax!

WHAT IF I CANNOT SWIM?

Knowing how to swim is not required for passage onto the vessel.  However, the ability to swim is required for all guests entering the water.  To swim and/or snorkel you must be a proficient swimmer, and comfortable in open ocean conditions.  This policy is for the safety of all our guests and crew. 

CAN I BRING MY OWN SNORKEL GEAR?

Yes you are more than welcome to bring your own gear! However full face snorkel masks are not permitted on board our vessel due to safety. Full face snorkel masks can prevent the user from communicating with captain and crew.

WHAT IF WE DON'T SNORKEL?

Snorkeling on the NaPali Coast tours is a bonus, and we love it, however, Mother Nature decides what we do. There are days the weather or water conditions don’t allow us to snorkel. Safety is a priority, and we do not put our guests and crew at risk.

The captain makes the final decision with safety in mind. In the event, we cannot snorkel, we spend more time cruising along the beautiful NaPali coastline, which is the highlight and focus of your tour.

IS GRATUITY INCLUDED IN THE TICKET PRICE?

We strive to exceed expectations, and anticipate everyone having a fantastic, epic super raft adventure with us!  Gratuity is not included in the tour price and is customary in this industry and always appreciated. 

IS SMOKING PERMITTED ON BOARD?

Coast Guard regulations and for the comfort of all our guests require us to prohibit smoking of any kind (cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, vaping, etc.,) aboard our vessel .

CAN I BRING A DRONE ONBOARD?

Drones are not allowed on our tours as it is against the law without the proper permits.

WHAT IS THE SOUTH SHORE REROUTE?

During the wintertime, massive northern swells will sometimes make the Na Pali Coast or Niihau inaccessible. Generally, the south shore of Kaua’i enjoys pristine conditions during these occasions and is an amazing boating destination. If the weather is suitable, we may reroute the tour to head southward to Kipu Kai, a beautiful and remote bay with excellent snorkeling. We will let you know in advance if the tour will be rerouted, in which case you are welcome to reschedule or receive a refund. However, guests greatly enjoy their adventure along the Southern Coast and the high probability of seeing humpback whales during the winter months so we recommend that you give it a go should this become our weather option!

DOES KAUAI OFFSHORE ADVENTURES PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO THE HARBOR?

Unfortunately, we do not offer transportation at this time. While there is ample parking at the harbor, each company appreciates your efforts in finding properly allocated parking from which you may visit  our retail location . From here, passengers will be escorted on a short 200 meter walk down to the boat and back again. If reaching the harbor is a concern, please look into transportation services offered by your hotel or resort. Transportation arrangements should be considered and made ahead of time.

WHAT IF THERE IS A LANGUAGE BARRIER?

We do our best to make everyone comfortable and feel safe. It is important for guests to understand the English language proficiently for safety. The captain and deckhand must be able to communicate effectively with all guests, and all guests must be able to communicate in response. All guests must be able to comprehend the safety briefing, rules of the vessel, and abide by all safety measures on the vessel, in the ocean, and always take direction from the captain and deckhand.  

WHY DO YOU NEED TO KNOW WHERE WE ARE STAYING ON KAUAI?

It is important for you to correctly fill out the accommodation drop-down when placing your reservation.  This allows us an additional way to reach you.  We always contact you via the phone number you provide first, but should your voicemail be full, or not set up, or if you are staying in an area with little or no cell phone coverage, we can still reach you.  We will try every way possible to contact you in case of unforeseen tour reschedules and/or cancellations.  We use this information to confirm reservations, notify of changes, and notify you of any known traffic advisories.

WILL I BE REFUNDED FOR NOT SNORKELING OR GETTING INTO THE SEA CAVES?

The ability to enter sea caves and snorkel or swim is 100% dependent on weather and ocean conditions, which we cannot control and does not constitute a refund. We are still providing a grand NaPali Coast adventure!

Experience the majestic Na Pali coast, Kauai, on the custom built catamaran “Lucky Lady”. Guests enjoy the opportunity to snorkel, sailing (conditions permitting), as well as viewing towering sea cliffs, waterfalls, sea caves, pristine beaches, and the remote wilderness coastline. Throughout the tour, our captains narrate Hawaiian history & legends while guests experience daily encounters with pods of spinner dolphins, sea turtles and humpback whales (seasonally from December to April).

You’ll go snorkeling, play on our waterslide, and enjoy the convenience of a swim platform and easy access stairs to the water. The Lucky Lady has a spacious main deck, cushioned cabin, and shaded open air seating plus an upper observation deck.

Also, two restrooms and fresh water showers are located on the main deck. Passenger safety is our top priority, therefore we provide quality gear, instruction, and safety snorkel vests. With safety in mind, we do not take pregnant women, those with serious health concerns, or those with bad backs or previous spinal injuries on any of our ocean tours. Children must be over the age of 3 years old to board.

Disclaimer: We call it an adventure for a reason – our tour may not be suitable for individuals who are physically challenged. Those that suffer from motion sickness should take precautions. Safety is our top priority. Ocean conditions can sometimes take a turn and become rough, for that reason tour routes and schedules are subject to change. Snorkeling and visiting the sea caves depend on ocean conditions. Guests must be prepared to wade into ankle to waist-deep water and occasionally in small surf. We do not guarantee snorkeling or entry into sea caves – that is always the goal but the captain will make that determination on the day of your tour if it is safe to do so. Rain is seldom a cause for us to cancel a tour. Please keep all factors in mind when considering if our tour is right for you. Mahalo.

Tours & Availability

• Chevron down Do you offer tours in the winter months?

We do not currently offer tours during the winter months. We operate our tours out of Hanalei during the months of March-October depending on the ocean conditions.

Our latest tour is the Na Pali Afternoon option which ends at 5.15pm.

• Chevron down Do you have availability besides what is shown on the website?

• Chevron down I see that you have one seat left. Is there any way you could let two of us on?

Although we would like to accommodate you, adding just one more passenger would be in violation of the US Coast Guard’s regulations for our vessel.

• Chevron down What is a catamaran?

A catamaran (informally, a “cat”) is a double-hulled water craft featuring two parallel hulls of equal size – this design has been utilized by the indigenous peoples of Oceania for thousands of years, combining unmatched stability with shallow draft (depth). Since WWII, the catamaran design has been modernized and refined to function across a variety of sailing/power-boat applications. Our power-driven catamaran is ideal for entering sea caves, which is impossible on any of the sailing catamarans that tour the Na Pali Coast.

• Chevron down Which tour is better? Morning or afternoon?

Each tour has different advantages – the Na Pali morning tour tends to be a little cooler and calmer on the ride back to Hanalei. The afternoon tour tends to be a little warmer and bumpier on the ride back but lighting conditions typically offer greater photo opportunities. We recommend searching “morning” or “afternoon” at our page on Tripadvisor or Google and other online review sites to see what people experience on each tour.

• Chevron down Do all tours include entry into the sea caves?

The Na Pali Coast features some incredible sea caves. When ocean conditions are calm enough (which is most of the time) we enter them. This includes our morning and afternoon tours. Please keep in mind that every day is different. Passenger safety comes first.

• Chevron down Is there a restroom on the boat?

Yes, we have a restroom aboard both of our vessels. Our restrooms are spacious, private and clean. While not all Na Pali tours offer a restroom, your comfort and privacy are important to us.

• Chevron down If I’m pregnant, can I take the tour?

We are very sorry, but we cannot accept pregnant women on the boat. Our Hawaiian waters at times can be unpredictable, and an otherwise smooth, pleasant ride can quickly become bumpy. We value the safety of our passengers above all else.

• Chevron down I have physical limitations and/or I’ve recently had major surgery, can I join the tour?

Due to the ever-changing conditions of the rivermouth that we operate out of, our loading process is sometimes challenging. All passengers must be able and prepared to wade into waist-deep water and climb a 4-step ladder in order to board/disembark the vessel. Sorry, but there is no way around this. All passengers must be physically able to do so, we do not issue refunds if you are not physically able to load the vessel as a result of physical limitations. Any passenger who has recently undergone a major surgery for areas including(but not limited to) neck, back, hips or knees is not permitted aboard. The Na Pali Coast is an exposed coast line, with conditions that often change quickly. We are very sorry, but for these reasons, we do not permit passengers with certain known medical limitations aboard our vessel. Safety is always our number one priority.

• Chevron down Do you take children on your tour? Do you have a child rate?

Yes, children 5 years and older are welcome! They will have a blast! We do not have separate adult or child rates. Pricing is per passenger. We do not allow children under the age of five.

• Chevron down Should I be concerned about seasickness?

Yes! Even on the nicest days, people sometimes get sick. It is up to you to take appropriate preventative measures. Do not assume you will not get sick. Ginger products and acupressure wrist bands are believed to be helpful. We recommend all passengers taking seasickness medicine before you sleep and again the day of your tour. Although we don’t provide medications at our check-in desk, many guests have had success with Bonine and Dramamine. There are also behind-the-ear adhesive patches which seem to work really well.

Cancellations & Weather

• Chevron down What if it’s raining?

There is about a one hundred inches-per-year difference in rainfall between point A and Point B on our tour. On Kauai, rain comes and goes frequently, so it is extremely rare that our tours have rain for the whole duration. Rain also brings beautiful waterfalls and rainbows. If it’s safe, your tour is still on! You may want to bring a light jacket.

• Chevron down What is your cancellation policy?

If we have to cancel your tour due to poor ocean conditions, we will try our very best to help you reschedule your tour. If this is not possible, we will issue you a full refund. If you need to cancel or reschedule your tour, we will give you a full refund, but we do require 48 hours notice in advance from your check-in time for 1-4 people, 72 hours for 5-7 people, and 96 hours for 8-10 people. For a party of 11+, we require one week’s notice. This policy includes emergencies and is not flexible – we are unable to issue refunds to late cancellations whether we fill the vacated seats or not. We recommend you to have good travel insurance to cover your losses and expenses in the event of an emergency.

Driving & Parking

• Chevron down Where do we check in?

For Na Pali, our check-in location is at our office in Hanalei at the Ching Young Village Shopping Center. We require all of our passengers to check in at our office to sign the waiver and shuttle together down to Hanalei Bay.

• Chevron down Can we drive our own car to the boat?

We prefer that you don’t. Parking is always an issue at our beach parks. We do provide a free shuttle service to those who do not wish to walk from or to our office.

• Chevron down If we are running late, will you hold the boat for us?

Please be on time. Do not underestimate potential traffic delays on Kauai. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold the boat and we cannot issue refunds for late passengers.

• Chevron down Do you provide snorkel gear?

Yes, we provide fins, flotation devices and high-quality non-prescription masks. We do allow guests to bring their own gear if doing so increases comfort or provides a better experience.

• Chevron down What does the ladder look like and how far will I need to wade into the water?

Our ladder has 4 steps with handlebars on each side. Depending on the tide, we will either load from the beach (as seen in the photo above) or the river. Typically it’s ankle to knee deep – sometimes waist deep.

• Chevron down Can I use my full-face snorkel mask?

No, we do not allow our passengers to enter the water with full-face snorkel masks on. Click HERE to learn why.

What to Bring/What's Provided

• Chevron down What do you provide, besides the tour itself?

For our passengers, we provide a 30 liter dry bag for their belongings while on board. Mask, snorkel, and fins are provided for snorkeling, but bringing your own gear is also welcome. Bottled water, Juice, soda, chips/snacks are included as well as a deli-style sandwich for lunch. Towels are NOT included.

• Chevron down May we bring alcohol?

We are very sorry, but we prohibit the consumption of alcohol during our tours and if you show up for your tour in an overly inebriated state, you will not be allowed to board the vessel. On a four-hour tour with other passengers, none of those people can just walk away from an uncomfortable situation when at sea. We feel this policy better ensures the comfort and safety of both passengers and crew.

• Chevron down Do I need to bring my wallet?

If you have paid in full, you will not need your wallet. However, if you wish to show your appreciation to your captain and crew, they will gladly accept cash gratuities!

• Chevron down Will you discount my trip if I write a five-star review for your company?

We are asked that question frequently; however, we do not engage in such activity. We believe that we offer an excellent tour at a very fair price. If you agree, you’ll hopefully write for us a favorable review. If you disagree, you’ll likely write a lesser review. Either will make us better as a company. Bribery, on the other hand, will not.

• Chevron down I’ve been described as rude, crude, vulgar and obnoxious. Do you have an issue with me being on your tour?

Great question, easy answer: We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. Should you show such traits before boarding our vessel, we will disallow you from doing so. Should you decide to act up, or out, when aboard, we will send a second vessel to remove you from the tour (and your money will not be refunded). There is nothing more important to us than the comfort and well being of our guests and employees. Most describe our tour as “the experience of a lifetime.” We ask that you not compromise that experience.
