LEANDER G Yacht – Stunning $59M Superyacht

The LEANDER G yacht is a 74.98-meter superyacht Leander G constructed in 1993 by Peene-Werft , a cutting-edge shipyard that specializes in new build and repairs of naval vessels.

His guests include members of the English royal family, such as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, on a tour of the United Kingdom and Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in the Caribbean.

Throughout her illustrious career, the boat has required just three repairs. In 2018, the first repair was made, and it included considerable renovations to the guest and staff accommodations for the first repair. 

Then in 2019, a complete engine overhaul was performed. The most current revisions took place in February 2020 in Navantia, Spain.

Being an active yacht, she has a reputation for navigating worldwide destinations from the Baltic to the sunny Bahamas.

Since her delivery in 1993, Leander G has served as an unofficial royal yacht for prominent members of the royal family on occasion.

Her interior design was penned by Polina Nunns with a style that is reminiscent of an “English country home.” She features a piano room, a viewing terrace, a bar, a swimming pool, a gym, and a dining room.

She is the quintessential gentleman’s yacht, complete with a railing in front of the alcove and a massive mural that portrays an 18th-century sailing scene. 

The English country house vibe can be seen and felt throughout the vessel, with old mahogany furniture, damask-patterned carpets, and flowery wallpaper.

Claus Kusch was in charge of her build and exterior design, and he did not disappoint.

LEANDER G was originally commissioned as the third boat in the Katalina series for Brigadier Timothy Landon, an adviser to the Sultan of Oman.

Her construction began only weeks after the Berlin Wall fell in 1989. Since the shipyard had previously only produced military boats, Kusch had to accompany a small group of his employees to Monaco to demonstrate what a superyacht was.

It seemed as if the boat had been custom-made for him, despite it being originally built for someone else.

LEANDER G has ten luxurious cabins that can sleep up to 20 guests, including two owner suites with an interconnecting office and living area.

Up to 26 people may be accommodated in staff cabins next to the owner’s living area. 

Additionally, the boat has a spacious swimming pool and a gym, allowing passengers to unwind and feel at peace while on board.

LEANDER G is powered by two 3,600hp Deutz-MWM SBV12M628 diesel engines, which provide her with a maximum speed of 18.5 knots and a cruising range of 8,000 nautical miles at 14.5 knots.

Leander G’s accommodations are as elegant as they are comfortable and inviting. Like the rest of Leander G, her master suite mixes rich styling with incredible luxury. It starts with the study where a bookcase filled with leather bound classics slides open to reveal a TV, DVD and CD music system and a sturdy writing desk, exquisite model ships and paintings with a nautical theme combine to reinforce the lavish tones. Through a hidden sliding door lies the master bedroom with its king-size bed with a wide screen plasma TV and hidden DVD and surround sound system mounted opposite. Five large windows offer panoramic views port and starboard, while entrances to the dressing room and bathroom flank the TV, the latter features both a large bath and walk in shower. The suite is accentuated by large mirrors and windows over the bathroom’s starboard side flood the entire area with natural light. The second stateroom holds a king-size bed in a spacious bedroom area which adjoins with a living room and study. The TV, DVD and CD surround sound system are hidden behind a sliding cabinet while the ample bathroom contains both a tub and a walk in shower. Four large port side windows provide impressive views and an abundance of natural light. In addition, Leander G also has three double guest cabins and five twin guest cabins.

Leander G’s main saloon provides incredible relaxation: windows on the stern, port and starboard allow natural light to flood the room, a perfect complement to the soft yellow and cream décor. Balanced by dark wood furnishings and dramatic maritime oil paintings, other amenities of this lovely room include a grand piano, a collection of several hundred DVD’s, a stairway leading to the guest cabins below and large sliding glass doors which open onto the aft deck and offer panoramic views. The dining room as well is exceptionally well lit by its large port and starboard windows, and dramatically accented by its marble effect pillars which surround the room and match perfectly the marble effect table which easily accommodates up to 20 diners. The dining room ceiling has been designed to give the impression of looking through skylights onto a faintly clouded blue sky, while an entire wall is devoted to a gorgeous nautical painting with mythical inspirations. The observation room offers breath-taking 180 degree views as well as an area to relax in front of the TV, entertain friends or work at a desk. Large double glass doors lead from the bar on the Jacuzzi deck and a capacious dining table is accompanied by two smaller versions for a more intimate dining experience. The pool deck, with flow pool, offers panoramic views from the stern as well as shaded tables, sun bed and comfortable loungers. The well-maintained teak decking and varnished teak handrails throughout are as beautiful to the eye as they feel beneath the feet.

Leander G’s other notable amenities include a gymnasium with rowing machine, cycling machine, weights bench, stretching bar, a range of yoga and exercise DVD’s, a sauna with adjacent shower and an adjoining dive room. Leander G’s toys and tenders include three wave runners, water skis, three windsurfers, three kneeboards, two four metre laser sailing dinghies, two sets of tows, scuba gear with a compressor and fishing equipments as well as six tenders including a thirty two foot custom tender, one eighteen foot and one twenty foot Ribtec semi-rigid and one eighteen foot and one twenty foot RIB.

Leander G is available for charter in the Mediterranean for the summer season and the Caribbean and the Bahamas during the winter season.

Sold in February 2016, the 74.98 metre motor yacht Leander G is back on the market, listed for sale by Nicholas Edmiston at Edmiston & Company .

Delivered in January 1992, the yacht was formerly owned by the late Vice Admiral Sir Donald Gosling KCVO RNR for two decades.  Built in steel and aluminium by the German yard Peene Werft on the Baltic Sea, she was built under the supervision of Claus Kusch . An English country home style interior by Pauline Nunns accommodates as many as 20 guests in 10 cabins consisting of a master suite, VIP suite, three doubles and five twins, all with en suite bathroom facilities.

Leander G was acknowledged as one of the great yachts of the 20th century and over the past 20 years she cruised throughout the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and to every point in the Caribbean Sea.

Lloyds classed and MCA compliant, she hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on a tour of Great Britain and HRH Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall in the Caribbean, carrying out the informal role of royal yacht to senior members of the royal family on official tours.

Over €25 million has been invested in her upkeep under her current ownership, including considerable upgrades to guest, crew and mechanical systems and a full repaint carried out in 2018. Her top speed is 18.5 knots and she boasts a maximum cruising range of 8,000 nautical miles at 14.5 knots with power coming from two 3,600hp Deutz-MWM SBV12M628 diesel engines.

The 75m/246'1" motor yacht 'Leander G' (ex. Leander) was built by Peene-Werft in Germany at their Wolgast shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Heinz Vollers and she was completed in 1993. One of the largest superyachts in the world is on sale for £40.4m with a helipad, gym and 12-person dining room

ONE of the largest yachts in the world has just docked in the UK - and is now on the market.

You can buy the Leander G for a cool £40.4 million, and set sail with 21 of your friends and family.

The massive German-built vessel, currently docked at Plymouth, was once owned by former Vice-Admiral Sir Donald Gosling, but it passed onto a new owner in 2016.

It is now on sale for €45 million (£40.4 million) having been put back on the market.

The 75-metre superyacht even ferried royalty around - the boat transported Prince Charles and Camilla on their royal tour of the West Indies in 2008.

The boat also hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on a tour of Great Britain.

The Leander G was designed by Claus Kusch, and has six decks in total, with a range of communal guest areas including a main saloon and dining room on the main deck.

There is also a jacuzzi deck, observation deck and study, a fitness room, a diving room and swim platform.

Guests can also be transported by the use of the helipad on the boat.

There are ten suites in total, consisting of two master suites with a study and a forward facing saloon, three double guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms and five twin guest cabins with bathrooms.

In total, the Leander G can accommodate 22 guests as well as a crew of 23.

The yacht was ordered in October 1990 by Brigadier Sir Timothy Landon from the former East German shipyard Peene-Werft at Wolgast to replace his yacht Katalina.

As the ship was being prepared, Landon decided to keep his existing ship due to his ill-health and sold the yet-unnamed vessel to Sir Donald Gosling.

He took over the final stages of the build and named the yacht after the cruiser HMS Leander, the first Royal Navy ship in which he served.

Gosling sold the yacht in February 2016 through broker Peter Insull to an unnamed private buyer, who removed the yacht from the charter market.
