This Private Yacht Is the Most Romantic Place in Paris

By David Foxley

Considering the perfect place to propose? Look no further.

Textile mogul Pierre Frey ’s appropriately named boat, Cachemire , with its gorgeously restored and appointed interiors, may be the ideal place in which to mark a major milestone. Just ask Mr. Frey, who finished overhauling the vessel in time for his father’s birthday celebration.

“It was spectacular,” he recalls of the recent event aboard Cachemire , which can accommodate parties of up to 14 guests. “Every aspect of the experience was fantastic—from the quality of the food and services to the views of Paris as seen from the river. Even as a Parisian, I was impressed by the unique and extraordinary views of the city.”

Whether seated at an elegantly set dining table on chairs upholstered in Frey’s own namesake French cashmere, or before a fireplace—yes, a fireplace —in the cozy lounge nook, or on the breezy rear deck, it’s impossible to find a poor spot onboard from which to take in the views of Notre Dame cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. Even the floor, covered in a sumptuous custom carpet, is worth marveling.

Cachemire can be booked directly through Yachts de Paris seven days a week, year-round. The minimum fee is $3,425 for four hours, not including food or beverage. And if there’s one thing a trip like this calls for, it’s a glass or two of good champagne.

Michelin-star Dining on the Don Juan II Yacht with Chef Frédéric Anton

Luxurious Magazine

Yachts de Paris announces its gastronomic cruise on the Don Juan II Yacht offers one-star Michelin dining. The famous restaurant guide has acknowledged Chef Frédéric Anton, which means the Seine trip is the only one to offer Michelin-star cuisine.

Paris has always been renowned for fine dining and has many Michelin-starred restaurants. A unique experience is now available where you can take in the stunning scenes of Paris while you float along the Seine , enjoying delightful meals made by Frédéric Anton. He has been awarded a star for his cooking on the Don Juan II yacht, making it the first-ever cruise to offer such highly-rated cuisine.

On the menu: A two-hour sailing experience, including a prestigious dinner on the most beautiful avenue in Paris, the River Seine. Frédéric Anton’s cruise spans the stretch of river between the Eiffel tower and the Conciergerie, offering a handful of lucky diners the chance to admire the French capital in all its shining glory, with its offer of gastronomic cruises on the Don Juan II.

At the helm of this legendary yacht, the multi-starred chef creates an intimate experience that reflects his style: subtle and refined cuisine that embodies a perfect harmony between aesthetic beauty and taste.

The boat passing the Eiffel Tower in Paris

The unforgettable cruise combines the cosy atmosphere of a ship from the last century featuring an Art Deco interior with the magical monuments of the City of Light and the best in French gastronomy.

Dedicated to serving delicious, top-quality cuisine to his guests, Frédéric Anton selects seasonal products and concocts his menus to reflect his expertise. And his dedication has been rewarded! His food brings guests together and is served uniquely, reflecting his ambition to make this new Parisian location a pillar in French fine dining.

One of the dishes guests can expect to sample

An example of the seasonal menu is,

  • Fennel Cream and roasted seeds, Dashi flan, Caviar
  • Crab Flavoured with Curry, Grapefruit “Zéphyr”
  • Langoustine Prepared as a Ravioli, American sauce, thin Gold jelly
  • Lamb Pan-fried, Peas flavoured with Nutmeg and “jus gras”
  • Chocolate Warm Soufflé, Pistachio ice cream.

The price per person is 240 Euros.

Indulge in your starter whilst sailing by the Sacre Coeur, devour your fish course taking in the fabulous Notre Dame cathedral, and savour the lamb seeing the Eiffel Tower. As the cruise ends, you finish your dessert and have experienced a fantastic two hours on the Seine.

Frédéric Anton sailing past the Eiffel Tower on the boat

For 25 years, Frédéric Anton has upheld his values of creating “simple, effective and unadulterated” food. As a Meilleur Ouvrier de France and chef at Pré Catelan (three Michelin stars) and Jules Verne (one Michelin star), Frédéric Anton has the opportunity to express the full range of his talent and uphold his high standards here on board the Don Juan II. His leitmotiv is the use of seasonal products due to rigorous sourcing.

This naturalistic approach is perfectly in line with the chef’s values. He has always been committed to total transparency about the origin of his produce, determined to fight against food waste and devoted to allowing the seasons to guide his cuisine, and not the other way around.

This first Michelin star acknowledges Frédéric Anton’s know-how and recognises his entire crew and restaurant team’s effort.

“I am delighted that the hard work of the entire Don Juan II team since the opening has been recognised. This first star in the Michelin Guide underlines our ambition,” said Frédéric.

One of the best experiences in Paris. If you haven't been on a river cruise (or even if you have), Yachts de Paris is definitely worth trying. The cruise/water is smooth, staff is friendly, food is amazing (especially for a river cruise) and the evening scenery is breathtaking. With the right company/friends or for a moment of quiet solace, this river cruise is one of the best. Enjoy!

I will NEVER forget our experience here at Yacht de Paris. This is where my Fiance proposed to me on September 14, 2015 "OUR PROPOSAL VIDEO" https://youtu.be/hFWo75VtVyk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFWo75VtVyk Food was incredibly DELICIOUS. BEST FOOD WE'VE EVER HAD. Yacht was SO BEAUTIFUL! Staff has the best customer service. Everyone speaks english Yacht de Paris was the MOST ROMANTIC DINNER EXPERIENCE we've ever had and if we have a chance to visit Paris, France again, we will do visit this place again. Thank you everyone for giving us the best proposal day ever.

A little over a year ago I began planning my sister's Parisian wedding. The wonderful staff at Yachts de Paris made everything easy, comfortable, and stunning. I worked with Aglae and Aurore for the initial contracts and billing. I worked with Jessica and Anais for the planning of the details. No matter when I emailed or what I asked they were always friendly, responsive, and offered wonderful suggestions. On the wedding day we heard that traffic was a nightmare. Apparently all of the traffic was in getting to our hotel and not getting to the dock. We arrived very early and had to wait alongside the dock for a bit. The staff of Yachts de Paris (especially Isabelle) were gracious in letting us on board a little early even though they were still setting up. At 7:00 pm I helped bring my sister up onto the top deck of the yacht and watched her walk down the aisle to her future husband. Immediately after the ceremony we enjoyed cocktail hour with champagne, an open bar, and passed hor d' oeurves. We then watched as the couple had stunning photographs taken of them before taking group photos. At 8:30 pm we went down into the dining room for a 4 course meal. Our starter was an Antipasti with Buffalo Mozzarella (Foie Gras for those with a dairy allergy). Our entree was Veal vegetables (Hake for dairy allergy). Next was a Cheese Course. For dessert we enjoyed the Power of Chocolate (Fruit Salad for dairy allergy). The food was elegantly presented, beautifully seasoned, and perfect portions. Guests raved about the food especially the veal. In between the courses we enjoyed several speeches (even one from me which I'm petrified to do) and a couple of special dances. Isabelle and our wedding singer were very helpful in the timing of these events. Next came the incredible cake ceremony (with sparklers and all). After dinner it was time to dance! We enjoyed music from a DJ as well as a singer. The evening was truly magical!

We took the Don Juan 2 dinner cruise Second to the last night of our stay in Paris. I cannot say enough good things about the food and the experience. The crew started with seating us on the upper deck with glasses of champagne & appetizers. The staff offered to take our picture with our phone when they noticed we were attempting poorly to do so ourselves. Once on our way the staff or ushered us downstairs to our table, all of them have an awesome view. As the sunset we ate the most spectacular meal we've ever eaten watching the Seine come alive. I cannot emphasize this enough, the experience was awesome but the food was incredible! I will remember this meal for the rest of my life. After the main course, perfectly timed, we pull up to the Eiffel Tower on the hour, when its lights sparkle for a minute. We were given warm blankets and escorted to the upper deck where everyone gasped over the beauty of Paris at night. we returned below deck for a cheese course and then dessert and coffee. The staff asked if we needed a cab and called ahead so one would be ready when we disembarked. Everything was perfectly timed down to the moment. If you ever want to propose or have a romantic moment this is the cruise for you! I went with my friend and we left our husbands at home, Lol, but I have to say at that moment I missed him horribly

I can't understand how this gets more than one star. The maitre d was an ass...the rest of the service was ok...the food was embarrassingly bad - gagged. How dare they charge what they charged! Total rip off and pretty much in edible. I could have had four amazing meals and feel stupid for thinking this was a good idea. Ugh. Totally now worth it.

We were aboard this boat 10 yrs earlier and wanted another experience. As before...very professional crew and solid food. It's beautiful to see Paris' famous attractions from the perspective of the Seine, at night. 270€ per person for tasting menu (including drinks)

A great cruise to see Paris at night, very romantic, and great crew. They were able to locate my cellphone which I left in the car they had provided.

The ambiance was enchanting, the service was impeccable, and the cuisine exceeded all expectations. Every dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef's creativity and culinary expertise. The attention to detail and the exquisite flavors made it a truly memorable dining experience. I can't wait to return and savor the exceptional dishes again. Thank you, Don Juan II, for an unforgettable evening! <3333 Read more Written February 9, 2024
  • Elena0103 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing dinner Great food experience. Firstly you have a cruise on the river. Only few moments to improve: 1 boat team could be more proactive to offer a blanket to cover shoulders as it’s cold in the evening outside of the boat (we were cold, and we didn’t know there are blankets). 2 boat roof top chairs in plastic are too cheap and not complicated for such restaurant experience. All the rest is great! Read more Written October 10, 2023

We were worried that we’d be a bit weary our first night in Paris but this dinner cruise ended up being one of our favorite experiences. We were welcomed by gracious staff and seated on the rooftop bar for cocktails. When we entered the boat for dinner, we were served the best meal among many great meals in Paris. The portions were small and interesting, the wine pairing delicious. It’s hard to select a favorite course. You will love it! Read more Written May 14, 2023
  • karon526 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A perfect celebration for a special occasion We celebrated our engagement with my parents on Don Juan II and it was incredible. The staff was extremely attentive - our boat was not full so there was actually more staff than attendees. Every table looks out the windows for an incredible view. They time the tour accordingly so you are right under the Eiffel Tower at night when the lights sparkle and it provides a perfect backdrop for photos (which they are also able to take for you if you want, although for a hefty charge). The food was very good as was the wine, I enjoyed every course. I would definitely recommend this for a special occasion or elevated experience while in Paris! Read more Written March 7, 2020

We were met by a well dressed gentleman at our taxi and escorted onto the yacht... and had time to enjoy a glass of perfectly chilled champagne top deck as we viewed Notre Dame in the distance. Once the other 14 guests arrived, we settled into our beautifully set table and enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent wine (very good wine list) Would highly recommend this excursion...nice way to end a lovely day in Paris.... • pgilbert9350 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Substantial decline in quality since 2012 My husband and I had an awesome dinner on the Don Juan II (Yachtes de Paris) back in 2012. The food was wonderful. The service was outstanding. And, the view of the Parisian buildings was magical. So, I was hoping to wow my mother and sister on our visit to Paris this past week. The only thing that didn't change was the view of the Parisian buildings. The service kept getting our requirements mixed up (no CRAB and no veal and one of us was ok with fois gras). In addition, my chicken breast was very tough. I don't know if the Yachtes de Paris has changed chefs but if so, the management needs to consider another change. Very Disappointed. • JoshL2406 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Exceptional Not sure what anyone could find to complain about as this is a wonderful experience. The good was excellent, the Yacht and service are manificent. Be sure to switch off the light on the photo on the wall next to your table as, when on, it reflects the photo into the view window and disrupts the view. The staff is incredible and treated us like royalty. And yes there's an onboard photographer and yes the photos are pricey but you spent all that money to come to Paris, didn't you? Don't listen to the complainers, they likely aren't happy anywhere. This is a wonderful experience. Read more Written September 23, 2018

  • sarafinadh 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Top Flight Tourist Trap Not much of a crowd joiner. But Himself wanted to do a Seine cruise on this trip since I stonewalled the last time we were here. I figured if I could stand Moulin Rouge I could stand a cheesy boat ride, right? I was so very pleasantly surprised by our experience on the Don Juan II. The boat (keel laid in 1921) is immaculate, the dining room is small and has only 8 or 10 tables. Everything is very luxe and carefully presented. We were a party of 4 and the first to arrive. We took seats on the top deck and had drinks and lovely little hors d'oeuvres. The photographer was a bit of an annoyance to me, but I suspect many passengers like the feature. In any event she was very courteous and left when we had had enough. We launched on time and set out up river a short way. The staff provides a quiet low key commentary and as we cruised by one of the Bateau Mouches I offered up my thanks to my husband for arranging such a nice evening for us and said how happy I was to 'not' be on that boat! Shortly we turned around and headed down river. We would reach the little Statue of Liberty and be below the Tour d'Eiffel before we turned once again and headed up river to dock at the end of the evening. We were escorted down to a lovely dinner in the dinning room and all of the courses were delicious. Again, much better quality that what I expected on such a touristy thing. Service was impeccable as well. The only thing I didn't love was the chicken breast. They were a tiny bit over cooked which left them a bit dry and not very tender. Happily the breast was served with a thigh confit that was delicious and we just left the breast and enjoyed the thigh. The servings were generous so no one is going to leave hungry. Dessert was the bomb, with a delectable little iced macaron as the piece d' resistance. So Good! Sometimes you just have to suck it up and own being a tourist. The Don Juan allows you to do it in style and enjoy the experience! Read more Written May 9, 2018
  • mwflanders 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A great evening spoiled by greedy operator The operators went to considerable efforts to make this an outstanding trip. Brilliant service and first class food. Almost faultless. What a shame that we decided to make the evening really special and book the hotel to boat pick up. Yachts de Paris charged 140 euro for this service. At the end of the boat trip we were informed that the taxi was one way only and we would have to pay again for a taxi back to our hotel. The boat called a ‘normal’ taxi which charged only 23 euros. This just highlighted how much they had ripped us off in the first place. Read more Written April 7, 2018

And the food? Just great. Very well presented , delicate, well cooked , well served but not too much just right , suffisant wine list with affordable good wines. Yes it is pricy but worth it. Superb experience ! Very limited seating so booking is mandatory. Read more Written March 4, 2018

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland collapsed Tuesday into the Patapsco River after it was struck by a large cargo ship.

The bridge's collapse has prompted huge emergency response, with the Baltimore City Fire Department describing the collapse as a mass-casualty incident, and rescue crews searching for seven people in the river. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency.

Baltimore  Mayor Brendon Scott  said on X that he was aware of the incident and was en route to the bridge. "Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway," he said.

The 1.6 mile, 4-lane bridge named for the author of the "Star-Spangled Banner," was the second-longest continuous-truss bridge span in the United States and third in the world.

An exhausted Jasmin Paris slumps after finishing the Barkley Marathons.

Hallucinations and no sleep: Jasmin Paris on her historic ultramarathon

In an exclusive interview, the first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons explains how she beat the 100-mile course

“I was so close to passing out,” says Jasmin Paris, as she relives the moment she became the first woman to complete the race widely seen as the most devilish, daunting, and toughest of them all. “I felt I was going to reach the finishing gate, or collapse right in front of it. There was a tunnel of roars on either side. But I couldn’t focus. It was all a bit blurry.”

Since 1989, more than 1,000 ultramarathoners have attempted the Barkley Marathons in Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee. But only 20 have ever finished the 100-mile course, which includes about 16,500 metres of elevation – the equivalent of climbing Everest twice – within the 60-hour time limit.

However on Friday, Paris, a 40-year-old senior veterinary lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, sprinted across the line after 59 hours, 58 minutes and 21 seconds – 99 seconds inside the cut-off. Before collapsing in a heap.

“It’s not the fact that it’s 100 miles that’s the problem – it’s about the terrain,” Paris tells the Guardian in her first interview since arriving back in the UK. “Immediately after we set off we went up a slope so steep that at times my foot would slide back down, and I would have to go again. There were a couple of places we were climbing on our bellies. And this year, there was also a new section that used to be used for hillside mining, it was all covered in brambles so our legs got slashed to pieces.”

There is no time for sleep either – save for a three-minute power nap before the last of the five loops – which unsurprisingly led to hallucinations. “I saw quite a lot of people in black macintoshes,” she says. “They were climbing the same hill as me, always a certain distance ahead. And it was bizarre, they all had a sinister foreboding feel to them.

“I always see animals in races like these too,” she adds. “There were trees that looked like a mountain lion, or a big dog, or pigs lying down, until I got closer.”

Paris had attempted the Barkley marathons twice before, but had never managed to do all five laps. However this time she was confident throughout, till a wobble right before the end. “When I got about eight minutes out, I suddenly thought I really might not do it,” she says. “I had about a kilometre to go but up a hill. I was so desperate to stop. But my mind was telling me: ‘If you don’t make this, you will have to do it all over again’.

“It’s the toughest thing I have ever done. Afterwards I just dropped. I needed to breathe for five minutes hard before I corrected because I’ve never been so oxygen deficient.”

Jasmin Paris, photographed in 2019.

Along the way she fuelled with pasta, porridge, rice pudding and her secret weapon – bananas. “Bananas are the one thing that really works for me when I’m doing these crazy long things,” she says. “I also tried to keep a mixture of savoury and sweet, including cheese and pickle sandwiches, pizza, frittata, Snickers and flapjacks. It gets really hard to eat, so you have to eat what you can.”

Paris’s success was the culmination of months of training every morning from 5am to 7.45am, before her two children were up and she started work. “The most I ran was 90 miles a week, but probably with the walking it was more like 120 or 130 miles,” she says. “In terms of practising for the ascent, I also did 11-12,000 metres some weeks from hill reps or the stair climber.

“I was also doing strength sessions as well, which were a big help,” she adds. “Most people probably don’t know, but I’ve got no anterior cruciate ligament in my left knee, because I tore it when I was 17 and never had reconstructive surgery. I know some medics who are quite surprised I can do so much off-road terrain running. But I’ve really strengthened my leg up and my knee is really great at the moment.”

This is the second time Paris has made global headlines, having become the first woman to win outright t he gruelling 268-mile Montane Spine Race , from Edale in the Peak District to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish borders, in 2019. So what compels her to continually probe the boundaries of the possible?

after newsletter promotion

“I still find it really exciting to push myself, especially when I don’t know whether I can do something,” she says. “It sounds a bit corny, but you also find out more about yourself, when you strip away all the stuff that makes life easier.

“In these races it is up to you to keep yourself fed, get water, and navigate the wilderness on your own, while doing tough climbs and descents. In these situations you also form relationships with other people that are impossible to do quickly in day to day life.”

Being alone also gives her valuable time to think. “I get a similar thrill, although not as extreme, from a week in the mountains,” she says. “It’s that feeling of being in the wilderness, having left behind civilisation, and getting a sense of perspective and calm.”

However Paris is uneasy at the thought of anyone hailing her as a superwoman. Instead, she just wants to inspire people to take up things they may have put aside.

“I hope maybe it encourages people to have some hobbies of their own when kids, work and life got in the way,” she says. “Because it has certainly been really good for my mental health.”

Paris reports she is already recovering from her extraordinary feat. “It is amazing what a night of good sleep can do,” she says. And yes, her next event, the Scottish Island Peaks race, a fell running and sailing race in May, is already inked in the diary.
