How much does it cost to charter a boat in Alicante?

The cost of a yacht rental in Alicante will depend on a number of factors such as the time of year, the number of passengers on board and the size and type of vessel you choose. Below are some average prices of an Alicante boat charter by boat type.

€3,675 / week in the high season and €2,450/ week in the low season for 10 people.

€299 / day for 8 people.

€340 / day for 12 people.

€5,900 / week in the high season and €4,200 / week in the low season for 12 people.

€3,450 / week for 10 people.

€600 / day in the high season and €400 / day for 3 people.

€20,700 / week in the high season and €15,300 / week in the low season for 12 people.

What is the best time of year for a yacht charter in Alicante?

The best time to embark on a sailing trip to Alicante is between April and October when you’ll have warm weather and little to no rainfall. Of course, the summer months are the most popular tourist period however, if you want to avoid crowds we’d recommend visiting in either May or September. The weather will still be warm but the city will be less crowded, and you’ll get better deals on boats!

What can I see and do with my boat charter in Alicante?

Explore the historic centre: This area is full of beautiful buildings, including the Santa Barbara Castle, which dates back to the 14th century. There are also plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to explore, so you'll certainly be kept busy during your stay.

Get in touch with nature: If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Alicante for a day, then there are plenty of great day trips to take from the city. One option is to head to the town of Elche, which is home to an incredible palm tree forest. Another option is to visit the village of Guadalest, which is situated high up in the mountains and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. For something a bit different, try the Playa de la Albufereta. This beach is located in a natural park and is perfect for those who love nature. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails nearby, as well as some lovely restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood.

Take a day trip: Consider heading up to Calpe, a stunning fishing village located on the coast. Here you can soak up some stunning views while tasting fresh seafood dishes or simply strolling through the picturesque streets.

Learn about history: No trip from Alicante is complete without visiting one of its most famous landmarks - La Muralla Arabe de Alcoy. This impressive Moorish fortress is over 800 years old and provides an insight into how this region looked during its long rule under Muslim rule.

Go to the beach: For an accessible beach, head to Playa de San Juan, one of the most popular beaches in Alicante. It is situated close to the city centre and is great for swimming, sunbathing and surfing, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for grabbing a bite or a drink. Another very popular beach is Playa de Levante located in the city of Benidorm. For snorkelling and scuba diving go to Playa de Cabo Roig and for windsurfing, Playa de El Campello.

Should I have a skipper on board my private boat charter in Alicante?

At Scansail we have a large fleet of yacht rentals in Alicante both with or without a skipper however, we always recommend choosing a vessel with a skipper. Skippered vessels are the best option for a worry-free holiday. Skippers are licenced professionals who will dock, anchor and navigate the vessel for you so you can sit back and relax, enjoying time with the ones you love. Having a skipper on board not only gives you peace of mind, but it’s also like having a private tour guide. Skippers are usually locals, so they can show you all of the most sought-after spots in Alicante, and make sure that you see everything on your travel itinerary.

For a personalised sailing holiday, choose a skippered vessel!

What type of boat should I choose for my yacht rental in Alicante?

The type of vessel that you choose for your private yacht charter in Alicante will depend on the duration of your holiday and your anticipated needs. For a shorter holiday of less than a week, we’d recommend a daily charter such as a RIB or a motorboat. If you’re planning a holiday of a week or more you’ll need a vessel that is spacious and fully equipped with all of the necessary amenities to accommodate you throughout your stay. Catamarans and yachts are great choices for a longer holiday with family or friends. If you’re an avid sailor and you like the challenge of navigating the wind and the waves, you might like a sailboat however, they can be unstable on the water so they aren’t suitable for people who are prone to seasickness or novice sailors.

It is a paradise for diving and snorkeling and was declared a Marine Reserve in 1986. The best place to dive in the area is La Murall where you can see lots of fish such as Barracudas, Breams and more.

At The Yacht Engine we're on a mission to make boating more accessible and to make it easier for you to get on the water. We believe boating should be available to everyone, and we can help the boating industry, boat owners, marinas, and everyone who wants to go boating by providing a 21st-century boating marketplace. The Yacht Engine is the best place to find and rent boats of all sorts, from a canal and riverboat across Europe to a sailing boat, motor boat, catamaran across North America, the Mediterranean, Caribbean and further afield, along with some of the world's most impressive superyachts and luxury yacht charters.

Boats or Yachts Available For Rent Or Charter In Alicante

Where it comes to chartering or renting boats in Alicante below is a list of the typical types of boats that you can hire on The Yacht Engine with a description of the boat type. If you can't find the individual boat charter you are looking for when you do a search in Alicante it's worthwhile searching nearby locations as your chosen boat type might be available nearby.

When searching a geographical area on The Yacht Engine you can filter by the below boat types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the boat or sailing yacht was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Sailing Yacht (Sailboat): From €120/£100/$135 a day up to whatever you can afford, monohull sailing yachts are fun to sail at all points of the wind and an affordable way to get around if your island hopping or finding your own secluded coves or sandy beaches along with longer cruises. Sizes range from those for a couple or small family to a full sized luxury charter yacht.

Catamaran: Luxury catamarans are stable and spacious, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the staterooms as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamaran: These types of boats are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam also means more deck space and as they don't have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailing catamaran rental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailing vacation with an experienced skipper.

Luxury Yacht: Luxury yacht charters are available for either a sailing yacht (sailboat), catamaran or motorboat and will have a crew and host/hostess on hand to cater for whatever your needs are along with a skipper who will have a detailed knowledge of your cruising area. On a crewed yacht charter of this kind you get to create your own personal itinerary and will have far greater range than on other boats which allows for lots of variety in how you travel and what you do.

Superyacht: A superyacht or sometimes called mega yacht are boats which are least 24 metres (79 feet) in length up to 180 metres (590 feet) and can either be sailing yachts (sailboats) or motorboats. These types of boats are most frequently found in the Med of Caribbean and due to their size they will have a large chartering area and can typically pick you up from whatever location you require rather than you being required to get to a set marina to start your charter. They are fully crewed with professional staff who will cater for your every need along with a skipper who will have extensive knowledge of your chosen cruising areas.

Motorboat: This covers a wide variety of boats from a motor yacht with cabins to a private boat trip for a fishing trip but all of the these are comfortable seagoing boats with a kick of speed should you want to cover a bigger distance on the day.

RIB: Very much day boats for fishing and day cruising, RIBs are a lot of fun for a day afloat. They can be very quick and are great should you be in a town on holiday and fancy seeing the coast or finding secluded sandy beaches to get away from it all.

Skippered Yacht Charter or Bareboat

When it comes to boat hire or yacht charter in Alicante you typically have two choices - bareboat yacht hire or skippered yacht charter.

When using The Yacht Engine you can filter all boat searches to be with or without skipper depending on what you are looking for and below we cover some of the main points to consider for your boat hire.

Skippered Charter: A skippered yacht charter gives you the advantage of being able to get afloat without having to invest in getting sailing qualifications before hand. For a monohull sailing yacht you will pay €120/£100/$135 plus a day extra for the skipper, as well as their food and a tip at the end.

When you get to a luxury yacht or superyacht charter with crew these prices will increase and costs also depend on where you plan to sail to along with the size and type of boat rental on your sailing holiday.

In some cases skippers will also be the yacht or boat owners (typically day trips) which means they will know all the best secluded beaches to show you the best that the area has to offer with their local knowledge.

For day trips you will often be able to use a skipper as well and prices will vary depending on the type of boat.

Bareboat Yacht Charter: For skilled sailors, a bareboat charter is cheaper and gives more privacy for you and your charter guests. Many sailors prefer to be helming the boat while choosing their own course, and provided you have the knowledge and relevant qualifications you can skipper these boats (typically up to 54 feet/16.5 metres in length) yourself.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Yacht In Alicante

If you are on a gulet or skippered yacht charter you do not need a license to sail a yacht out of Alicante. This is also the case where you are renting a small motorboat without a cabin for a day trip around the local islands or beaches.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat yacht charter, here are some examples of sailing qualifications:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will be able to take a bareboat charter out of Alicante, these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted.

US Sailing: The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Frequently asked questions

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

There are many beaches in Alicante. If you need a lot of space, Saladar Beach, south of Alicante, is a carpet of golden sand 1600 meters long. Alicante - this city is the capital of the Costa Blanca resort in eastern Spain. It is called so from an endless series of white sandy beaches in this part of the country. Among the attractions that you will see in the city: the medieval fortress, which rises above the city, and the Mediterranean classic old town with white houses and cobbled streets. You can spend the morning in museums and churches, and in the afternoon swim in the clear waters or relax under an umbrella. The modern tram network of the city will help you easily get to the right place.

Mount Benacantil, a monumental rock that hangs over Alicante, is a medieval fortress of Arab origin . Repair work was carried out for the last time during the Golden Age in Spain in the 1500s, but if you look closely you will find small fragments from Moorish times.

For hiking, the best time is early morning before the sun shines. The sophisticated, marble-lined promenade of Alicante is suitable for starting the journey, because it starts in the old city and continues along the city promenade next to the marina . You will understand the atmosphere of Alicante well, walking under the palm trees and watching how the life of the city around you unfolds on the terraces and market stalls. In the old part of Alicante, a bit like a village in the city center, you can get lost. This area stretches out on a hillside under a castle, and to get around you need to walk along steep streets and stairs between high whitewashed walls.

Pleasant city atmosphere

Locals are proud of their homes, love to decorate their balconies and thresholds with fresh flowers, and their shutters are painted in blue and green. Right next to the old town is a wonderful beach, if you do not want to go far for a serving of sea and sand. Playa del Postiguet is golden sand washed by very light waves . You will go quite far before the water reaches a waist, but you will have a magnificent view of the dominant walls of Santa Barbara. Due to its size and location, the beach may be a bit noisy in the summer, but the central location offers places to dine.

A few streets from Postiguet Beach, not far from the foot of the mountain, is the oldest and most beautiful church in the city . The church of Santa Maria, like many in Spain, was built over a former mosque, after Alicante was taken from the Moors in the 13th century. You will see gloomy-looking twin towers of the church, but interestingly, at first glance they are the same, but on the right - the 1300s, and on the left - the 1800s. Inside there is a Gothic statue of Santa Maria of the 14th century and a medieval book of the early edition of the 1200s.

Unforgettable holidays

There are many beaches in Alicante. If you need a lot of space, then the beach of Saladar south of Alicante is a carpet of golden sand with a length of 1600 meters. On the northern outskirts of Alicante is Playa de la Albufereta. It was the harbor for the Roman settlement of Lucentum and the impeccable shallow bay . There are companies around the port in Alicante that provide boat trips. It may be a short catamaran cruise near the city, but if you want to spend a day, you should definitely consider a trip to Tabarka. It is several kilometers from the coast to the south, but it feels like a different world. Tabarka has a small walled settlement with the same white houses and blue shutters that you saw in the old city of Alicante.

A 20-minute drive west of Alicante is the city of Elche, where you will find an amazing sight. This is the largest palm grove in Europe , planted by the first Muslims who settled here in the early Middle Ages. The grove is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the best way to get to know it is to walk along de San Placido.

How to get there: Alicante Airport (Aeropuerto de Alicante-Elche) is located 13 kilometers southwest of Alicante city center. From airport:

A private boat trip will allow you to move away from the crowds and take in one of the most beautiful areas of Spain. You can easily find the ideal catamaran, motor yacht, sailboat, or speedboat of your choice from the port of Alicante. You can directly contact the owners of the vessels while in search of the ideal boat, or simply allow a BednBlue travel expert to guide you with some suggestions.

You have plenty of options:

You can book and hire a sailboat or speedboat with a skipper, or without one if you own a license, and enjoy a one-day cruise to Tabarca island. You also have the option to rent a motorboat, since their fast-cruising speed will allow you to tour the coast of Costa Blanca with ease. If you book a catamaran, you will have plenty of space to throw a party or organize a fun excursion with a larger group, accompanied by a delicious meal onboard. Finally, you can hire a luxury yacht or sailboat and go island-hopping to the Balearic Islands, for as many days as you wish.

Boats in Alicante

Alicante marina

Alicante is a prominent city and seaport situated on the Costa Blanca coast of Spain. Like many cities of Southern Spain, Alicante has an incredibly long history and offers countless sightseeing attractions; from cathedrals to churches, and fascinating archaeological sites, you can imagine being back where it all started. Recognizing its fantastic strategic position by the sea, bordered to the north by Cabo de las Huertas and to the south by Santa Pola, many indigenous populations prospered there. A large group of Iberians settled where La Albufereta stands today and transformed the settlement into an industrial estate, with ceramic and silver serving as the basis for their commercial relations. Alicante, then, became a genuine port city when the Moors laid claim to the Iberian town. Up until the 15th century, Alicante continued to flourish as a trading port and attracted many people over the next two hundred years. In the 19th century, Alicante was secured as a Spanish port, when a railway system linked the city to central Spain. Today, Alicante remains to be a historical city with a gorgeous seaside and with mesmerizing beaches along the coast, ready to be discovered with a simple boat tour.

Before you begin your boat trip to Alicante, you might like to visit the Santa Bárbara Castle. This is a monumental rock, crowning Mount Benacantil, which gave birth to various legends. The story recounts a young princess called Cantara that falls in love with a poor man called Ali. Upon hearing her father's disapproval to marry him, she throws herself off the castle and onto the rocks of Mount Benacantil, which in turn breaks the king’s heart. It is believed that it is his side profile that can be seen in this curious rock formation. Alicante’s Archaeological Museum is also a place you can visit if you’re wondering about the city’s origins. Perhaps the most thrilling of all are the medieval displays that feature an ethereal mix of history--including Jewish, Islamic, and Christian cultures. Lastly, if you need a breather, you can always take the weight off at one of the many restaurants in Casco Antiguo of Alicante, a town in Altea known for its vibrant nightlife.

La Grenadella Alicante

Being both seaside and a port city with beautiful beaches, renting a boat in Alicante will fill your holidays with entertainment. For a full-day tour, you can pay a visit to Tabarca Island, situated only eight kilometers from the coast of Alicante. On the way to the island, you can make stops to snorkel or stand-up paddle in crystal-clear waters. If you have selected a sailboat or speedboat, you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks on board. Otherwise, you can choose a catamaran excursion and enjoy a delicious meal on board. Let us not forget that you have the option to taste the food in one of the many restaurants on the beach or the town center, including the traditional Tabarca cauldron. The most common boat routes to this paradisiacal island are from Santa Pola, the Port of Alicante, or the seaside city of Torrevieja.

A private boat trip in Alicante can also be spent exploring the beach resorts and coves of Costa Blanca. With about 180 kilometers of coast, you can plan the perfect weekend cruise. We can put together a package that is tailor-made for you. An example itinerary would be to head up the coast from Alicante to Villajoyosa, known for its colorful fisherman cottages and fabulous restaurants. You can spend the next day further north in Benidorm, a former fishing village that has now been transformed into a tourist hotspot. Here, you will find two distinct beaches known as Levante and Poniente. North of Benidorm is the resort of Albir, consisting of a sandy beach-- ideal for families with young children.  For longer trips, you can make a stop at Calpe, Javea, and the old town of Denia.

An alternative boat trip and itinerary from Alicante would be to head south along the Costa Blanca coast. This way, visitors will be able to stop at Torrevieja and Mil Palmeras. This is one of the most untouched resorts along the coastline, with 16km of blue-flag beaches to pick from. Not too far from there, you have the option to explore the astounding region of Murcia. You will there find the historic port of Cartagena. Though this is a rather lengthy voyage, you will have an exciting trip ahead of you by booking a motor yacht from Alicante. Finally, you can hire a boat in Alicante and arrange a lovely trip to one of the Balearic Islands: Ibiza, Formentera, or Mallorca. By island-hopping the Balearics, you will find everything you could possibly hope for in a summer holiday.

Pontoon boat partially submerges while hitting Lake Michigan wave

A Van Buren County Sheriff's Office marine unit jumped to action when two people were ejected from a pontoon boat into the water of Lake Michigan. (Courtesy | Van Buren County Sheriff's Office)

SOUTH HAVEN, MI -- Two people were ejected into Lake Michigan and rescued after the rental pontoon boat they were on hit a wave.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol rescued the two people around 6 p.m. Saturday, July 6, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The unit was stationed on Lake Michigan, south of the pier heads, and witnessed a pontoon rental boat with over ten people on it approaching the pier. The pontoon boat hit a 3-foot wave, submerging the front end of the boat, police said.

Two people were instantly ejected from the pontoon and the boat nearly capsized, spinning in the water nearby where the people had fallen in.

The deputies were within 50 yards of the accident and immediately assisted the overboard passengers. They were not wearing life jackets, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies pulled the two people onboard and verified everyone else was accounted for. Deputies secured the bench seats that broke free from the pontoon and were floating in the water.

Police assisted the pontoon to get back to the rental dock.

South Haven police administered a voluntary preliminary breath test for the driver of the boat, which came back negative for alcohol.

There were no injuries reported, police said, applauding the quick action of the deputies.
