AURELIA Yacht – Epic $10M Superyacht

AURELIA yacht is a 37-meter superyacht, hailed to be the tenth unique yacht of its size. 

With her owner’s love for sports cars, she is the ocean’s answer to a classic racing car. In fact, she was named after the very first Gran Turismo – the Lancia Aurelia GT . 

From her highly distinctive car-inspired exterior to her flawlessly designed interior, this mid-sized award-winning sports yacht exudes style and luxury at every turn.

Bannenberg and Rowell penned AURELIA’s interior design based on a car concept. Every vintage detail, from the Linley Aston Martin seats to the vehicle grille bookcase insets, is a work of art, and each one oozes quality workmanship.

The main salon is separated into two sections: a dining room with a wide circular table and a cozy lounge area with an L-shaped couch, two design armchairs, and a Bio Ethanol-powered fireplace (by Australian business Eco Smart ).

She has four cabins that are named after race car designers and can sleep up to eight guests and six crews.

The race car designers who influenced the décor of the guest cabins are Bertone (orange Lamborghini), Pininfarina (red Ferrari), and Zagato (green Aston Martin).

The master bedroom is normally placed forward on the main deck, while the three double guest cabins are located on the lower deck, all having en-suite shower facilities. 

She offers spacious living areas laid with a warm and welcoming ambiance for that perfect luxury charter experience with family and friends.

Specifications

The AURELIA yacht was built by CdM and was delivered in 2020. She has a beam of 8.6m, a draft of 2.6m, and a volume of 453 GT.

AURELIA’s superstructure is made from aluminum and she has a semi-displacement hull, which allows her to maintain great seakeeping while reaching amazing speeds.

She is propelled by two MTU engines, which allow her to travel comfortably at 15 knots and achieve a top speed of 30 knots. She has a range of up to 1,900 nautical miles at 12 knots from her 30,000-liter fuel tanks. 

An innovative stabilization system aboard minimizes the side-to-side roll of the boat, allowing passengers to enjoy outstanding levels of comfort either at anchor or when on the open water.

Her Gulf Oil Racing color scheme was designed by Frank Laupman of Omega , a Dutch company that is not known for any specific style, but rather a range of different styles, each individually tailored to the owner’s specifications.

AURELIA is considered the world’s finest mid-size sports motor yacht with its spacious exterior areas.

She boasts of a fantastic sundeck, a transom door that folds down to create a large swimming platform, and water toys that make her a popular charter yacht among guests with a strong track record.

Accommodation

As well as the captain of Aurelia, she can accommodate up to six more crew members on board and up to 8 passengers in four suites.

The AURELIA yachts’ master suite is incredibly big and bright, with a huge ensuite bathroom and walk-in dressing area to be enjoyed in privacy.

She has three big guest cabins, each of which has been decorated in a distinct racing motif.

That distinctive color scheme: powder blue, bright orange and white. The colors of Steve McQueen’s iconic Gulf Porsche 917 racer in the 1971 movie classic Le Mans .

The same legendary Gulf Oils livery also adorned the hugely successful Ford GT40 racecars of the late ’60s, while today, you can even specify these head-spinning colors on the latest $500,000 Ford GT supercar.

Back in 2011, the sports-car-loving owner of a soon-to-be-delivered 122-foot, Dutch-built Heesen superyacht decided that instead of typical refrigerator-white paint, he’d go bold. Very bold.

“The whole boat, inside and out, is a nod to the history of GT motorcar racing,” says Captain Guy Booth, Aurelia’s former captain who is now project-managing the 192-foot Royal Huisman superyacht Phi . “The owner wanted a tribute to speed, a tribute to history.”

Some might argue the owner—who, according to Booth, is equally passionate about horse racing—got a little carried away with the polarizing color scheme. The yacht’s custom 30-foot Pascoe tender—with its Yanmar powerplant is capable of around 60 mph—along with its fleet of Sea-Doos and Seabobs, are all painted to match the mothership.

Even the name of the yacht has a sports car connection. Aurelia is the name of arguably the world’s first Grand Tourer, the sexy, Italian-built Lancia Aurelia GT fastback, introduced in 1950.

“ Aurelia is the ocean’s answer to a classic racing car,” says Jan Jaap Minnema, broker with Fraser Yachts, who currently has the sleek, all-aluminum superyacht listed with a €8.9 million—or around $10.4 million— asking price.

Naturally, for a superyacht dressed-up in racecar colors, it had to be speedy. Powered by twin German-made MTU 3,648-horsepower V-16 diesels, Aurelia has a wave-slicing top speed of 36 mph. Throttle back to its 18 mph cruise speed and the yacht can cover over 2,300 miles between fill-ups.

Step aboard and Aurelia’s Bannenberg & Rowell-designed interior continues the sports car-inspired concept, though in a slightly less flashy way. Look closely and you’ll see the elegant carpeting throughout features a subtle pattern designed to resemble the tire treads of vintage racecars.

Gaze up and the ceiling in the salon is lined with diamond-quilted leather inspired by the seats of high-luxe Bentleys. And you can kick-back in gorgeous, bright-green leather armchairs from the Linley Aston Martin Collection.

Guests can also have fun taking their pick from three sports car-themed cabins. There’s the Ferrari-red cabin with its eye-popping red-and-black bed covers and Ferrari art; the Lamborghini-themed cabin with splashes of orange; and the elegant Aston Martin cabin with green hues and paintings of custom Zagato-bodied Astons.

Even opening the door to each cabin makes you feel like you’re driving a racecar; the handles feature the knurled surface of a vintage racer’s gear shift. “You could spend three or four days on the boat and still not see all of the very subtle tributes to GT motorcars,” says Booth.

On a side note, the Porsche that Steve McQueen drove in Le Mans— Chassis 026—is going on auction this weekend at RM Sotheby’s 2021 Monterey event. It’s expected to fetch over $18 million. It has a solid racing history and was one of three cars entered by JW Automotive at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car hydroplaned and crashed on the 50th lap, but was used to make the movie, which recreated much of the actual race.

As for that standout “10,” set in a white circle on Aurelia’s rear topsides, surprisingly it has no motor racing connection. It comes from the yacht being hull number 10 at the time, as part of Heesen’s successful 37-meter series.

Of course, you could argue that with its head-turning style and surprise-and-delight interior, Aurelia is nothing less than a “10.”

Description

Cantiere delle Marche’s first Flexplorer, a 39-metre explorer named Aurelia, is built for adventure and has a fearless spirit. Akin to her robust exterior, the interior is just as magical and spacious. It’s usually a question of more space – a bigger beach club, a gym or a stellar master cabin. But it’s quite rare to get a new boat built primarily to carry a larger tender. Nevertheless, this is how it was for the proud owner of the first Flexplorer to emerge from the young Italian yard Cantiere delle Marche last autumn – 39 metres of elegant go-anywhere yacht.

Like the Numarine XP series which Denison Yachting is very familiar with, CDM builds its series explorer yachts based on common technical platforms. Customization has been key to the brand’s market appeal and the Flexplorer series offers alternative layout solutions without the need for radical re-engineering. There is no doubt that Aurelia is capable of ‘real’ exploring. In the CDM conference room sits a sample of the hull plating used for all its yachts. The heavy steel plate is 12mm thick – 4mm more than the standard required by Class. The extra-thick steel adds robustness but also extra weight down low in the vessel where it is most needed to enhance stability and comfort.

Another prerequisite for an explorer yacht is long range. Aurelia can cruise 5,000 nautical miles on her twin CAT C32 engines with a heavy-duty rating and a fuel capacity of 60,000 litres. Aurelia is also the first CDM yacht to be fitted with two pairs of zero-speed stabilizers.

There’s no beach club as such, just a massive aft deck and bathing platform when the tenders are offloaded and the bulwarks unfolded.

Her top speed is 14.0 kn and she boasts a maximum range of 8000.0 nm when navigating at cruising speed, with power coming from two Caterpillar diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 staterooms, with 6 crew members waiting on their every need. She has a gross tonnage of 453.0 GT and a 8.6 m beam.

She was designed by Hydro Tec , who also completed the naval architecture. Hydro Tec has designed 27 yachts and created the naval architecture for 48 yachts for yachts above 24 metres.

Her interior was designed by Margherita Casprini (12 other superyacht interiors designed) and Francesco Paszkowski Design (247 other superyacht interiors designed) - she is built with a Teak deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

AURELIA is in the top 30% by LOA in the world. She is one of 1132 motor yachts in the 35-40m size range, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her volume is 186.22 GT above the average.

AURELIA is currently sailing under the Cayman Islands flag, the 2nd most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 1362 yachts registered. The main deck connects to the swim platform via a series of steps and allows for easy access into the sea as well as easy boarding by tender. An A-crane on the main deck aft allows for the efficient launch of the tender and motorised water toys, after which it can be folded away into the deck for a flush appearance. The bulwarks fold down to create an infinity deck where sunbeds, corner sofas and a forward starboard wet bar creates a relaxing entertainment area ideal for use day or night.

The upper deck aft is accessed via two outdoor staircases on either side of the sliding glass doors into the main salon. A large alfresco dining area seats up to 10 guests beneath the sundeck overhang, while a small corner sofa gives a couple of guests a place to lounge in the sunshine before or after a meal.

Walkways along the side lead around to the foredeck, where a C-shaped sofa with a raised table is placed in front of the bridge, and an additional aft-facing C-shaped sofa for the whole group to gather and take in the uninterrupted views.

The upper deck aft also grants external access to the sundeck, where guests can enjoy sweeping aft views while soaking in the large glass-sided Jacuzzi, sunbathing on the sunbeds to both sides, or seated on the sofa near the aft glass balustrades.

AURELIA Specifications

The interior hosts the crew and guest accommodation on the lower deck along with a fully-equipped gym. The Master suite placed on the main deck forward. The main salon is placed aft of the foyer, and on the upper deck, there is room behind the helm station for a sky lounge.

The yacht is powered by two Caterpillar C32 Diesel engines, reaching a maximum speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots. She has a range of 5,000 nautical miles with a fuel capacity of 60,000 litres. She was fitted with electrical driven fins at zero speed. AURELIA has a RINA C Malta Cross Mach Y (CH) classification for Unrestricted navigation.

“Aurelia” is the first of CDM’s Flexplorer range which as the name suggests represents an evolution from the explorer yacht concept designed to offer total flexibility.

This explorer yacht’s ever expanding segment is led by CDM that is currently offering an ample heterogeneous range which starts with the more classic Darwin Class in steel to the more modern Nauta Air as well as a series of One Offs like the fascinating “Audace” and “Crowbridge” and the most recent RJ Class and Flexplorer yachts. This latest product has been launched with the launching of the 130’ “Aurelia” designed by the yard with precious input from Sergio Cutolo’s Hydro Tec and Francesco Paszkowski’s Design.

“The first Flexplorer is undoubtedly a turning point. In actual fact despite the notable success judging by the latest renderings of other competitors we’re way ahead and this makes us very proud” said Vasco Buon Pensiere, co- founder and Sales & Marketing CdM shipyard Director. “The first to interpret a new tendency and the first to have launched the project design work years ahead represents a perfect return for all the efforts we’ve put into creating the Flexplorer range”.

The reason for this pride is found in the yacht’s features beginning with typical CdM navette thanks to Sergio Cutolo’s experience flanked by his Hydro Tec Studio which has delivered design work, as well as a functional asymmetric layout. “Flexplorer is the perfect example of how the same contents can possibly be expressed in diverse forms: with CdM we have completely revolutionized the Explorer yacht concept to obtain a synthesis which encompassed this typology’s core features, coupling them with centuries of naval tradition and creating a new shape and a flexible model which well adapts to being made to satisfy each and every client”. said Sergio Cutolo.  

Sergio Cutolo said: “The Flexplorer is the perfect example of how the same content can be expressed in different shapes. In CdM’s case we have totally revolutionized the concept of Explorer vessel to get to a synthesis which encompassed this typology’s core characteristics where optimising spaces along a transversal frame increases interior volume thanks to the reduction of the structure”. Furthermore this solution enhances greater flexibility in the design work which translates into simpler, less laborious modification according to different clients’ wishes.

Aurelia is equipped with twin pairs of electrically operated stabiliser fins. This solution guarantees greater efficiency also thanks to integrated sophisticated software acting on both independent electric rudder blades upgrading sea keeping performance. All of this resulted in installing smaller electric engines and smaller fins minimising what we know as ‘rudder effect’ which is normally brought about by larger fins which would substitute the preceding ones in case of partial failure”.  

Beyond a yacht’s technical aspects there are several important aspects concerning the interiors for which Francesco Paskowski’s studio delivered useful input and know-how. “Drawing up Aurelia’s interiors has been very stimulating involving CdM’s whole design team as well as the owner and Margherita Casprini who gave us the opportunity to explore new solutions in terms of design”, commented Francesco Paskowski.

Additionally, “Aurelia possesses an industrialised inspired model which takes after some of New York’s sophisticated lofts. Brushed oak strips dedicated for the flooring enhance a vintage feel which blends well with slate coloured finishes, details, cement glass iron and aluminium. Brown hues and gun metal greys of precious fabric and furniture upholstery, treated skin made to look old is used for sofas and armchairs’ upholstery. The styling of the lamp and faucets bring out an atmosphere of industrial inspiration”.

The layout requested foresees just four cabins with the owner suite situated along the main deck and with three guest cabins along the lower deck. There’s loads of room for a wine cellar distributed on two levels, it is made up of two columns with a capacity of 44 bottles in each and a gym equipped with latest Technogym gear.

A pair of Caterpillar C32 746kW engines are expected to deliver a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 7,000 nautical miles at 10 knots with a fuel consumption of 70 litres/hour. This thanks to a CFD designed hull tested in Holland’s institute as well as resulting into a perfect match with the engines.

Watch: CdM Launches First Flexplorer, 40m Aurelia

Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche has launched the first of its highly-anticipated Flexplorer range, 40m Aurelia .

Built for an experienced CdM yacht owner, Aurelia combines the robust seaworthiness of a top grade explorer with luxurious finishes and sumptuous amenities for her guests. Her interior spaces are impeccably stylish, as is characteristic of Francesco Paszkwoski’s handiwork. Meanwhile, her near-vertical bow, spacious aft deck and storage capabilities equip her for the most adventurous of expeditions in high levels of comfort. 

‘The first Flexplorer will be a game changer, there is no doubt about it. It is actually already a trend-setter project if we look at many of the latest renderings published by other yards on the press after we presented the project. This makes us very proud indeed ,’ comments Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founder and Sales & Marketing Director at CdM, in a statement.

Aurelia is fitted with a wide beam of 6.82m, affording her a large owner’s apartment on the main deck forward. On the owner’s request she is fitted with only three guest cabins (two VIP and one twin) accommodating for up to nine guests as well as six crew. 

Designing Aurelia with fewer staterooms means that she is able to accommodate generous amenities for a yacht of her size. A well-equipped gym, a vast wine cellar spanning two decks and lots of dedicated space for storage for her many toys, including a removable 500kg crane.

She is also fitted with an A-frame crane encompassed in the deck flooring, allowing her owner to launch an 8.5m tender without sacrificing the full extent of her ample deck spaces.

Aurelia bears a displacement hull, deep and flared in its forward sections to keep the deck protected in all conditions. Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec Naval Architecture explained the philosophy behind this, saying, ‘ The transverse frame, in line with the shipyard approach,  allows for better spaces optimization, increasing the internal volume thanks to reduced internal structures. It also provides additional design flexibility, allowing for easier modifications and  customisation.’

Aurelia has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 3 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks, she benefits from a semi-displacement hull to provide exceptional seakeeping and impressive speeds. Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V 2000 M93) 12-cylinder 1,500hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 20 knots with a range of up to 1,200 nautical miles from her 3,000 gallon fuel tanks at 10 knots. Her water tanks store around 600 Gallons of fresh water.
