Having a career on superyachts is a dream job.

Begin your career on a Superyacht, travel the world, get away from that desk, meet some fantastic people… and the salary isn’t bad, either! The question that remains, however, is how to get a job on a Superyacht in the first instance to launch your career on the ocean.

Read on to find the answer, as well as information on what a Superyacht is, what a career in the industry can offer you, the kind of salary you can expect, when to look for work, and how you can launch your career by completing our Superyacht Deckhand course or Superyacht Stewardess course!

What is a Superyacht

A Superyacht is the name given to a private or commercially operated luxury yacht over 24 meters in length. A Superyacht can be a sailing or motor yacht, they range in size and shape, with the largest yacht today, Azzam which is 180 meters long.

All these Superyachts require an army of qualified crew, including Deckhands and Stewardesses.

What can the industry offer you?

Working in the Superyacht industry offers the travel and adventure that no other job can offer you. There is no such thing as a 9 – 5 on a Superyacht; there’s always lots going on, and most of your time will be spent in the sunshine.

Almost all large yachts are based in the sunnier places on the globe, typically yachts head to the Med for the summer before heading to the Caribbean of the US for the winter. This means your office will always be on the move!

How much do yacht crew get paid?

The average  Superyacht salary  for a new Deckhand or Stewardess ranges from €2,000 to €3,500 per month. The Salary depends on the type and size of the yacht. If you are a UK resident, then the salary can be tax-free!

On top of that are the tips. If you end up on a charter yacht, then you can easily double your salary during the charter season. Working on a Superyacht can be hard work with long hours but rewarding – and, for many, the start of a career!

When should you start looking for work?

Understanding the Superyacht season is a big component in how to get a job on a Superyacht!

The Superyacht season kicks off in the Mediterranean anytime between March and May. However, as the Superyacht industry grows, with bigger and bigger yachts, the demand for new crew increases. The employment window has changed from the traditional February to April window. We now see crew land their dream job in the middle of summer.

There are more yachts on order that are over  100m in length than ever before , all requiring qualified crew.

Most members crew start out with day work, helping busy crews prepare their boat for the owner. Others land a job through a crew agent, dock walking, social media or a contact within the industry.

What is the role of a Superyacht Deckhand?

As a Deckhand, your responsibility is to maintain the exterior of the yacht, its tenders, jet skis and any other toys onboard. You will be interacting with guests and owners to make sure their time onboard is beyond expectations.

How about a Steward or Stewardess?

The role of a Steward or Stewardess can be varied; however, your main duty will be the meticulous cleaning of the interior of the yacht. A Steward/ess will serve food and drinks to guests, looking after their every need. You will rub shoulders with the rich and famous and travel the world.

How do I begine a career on a Superyacht?

To work on a Superyacht, all crew must complete  STCW Basic Safety Training course , mandatory qualifications required by all seafarers. All seafarers are required to hold an  ENG 1 medical to prove that you are fit to go to sea.

In recent years, the UK Superyacht Industry has been booming and more individuals have become aware of the staggering amount of  Superyacht Service providers and industry businesses that are based in the British Isles, much to their surprise. With this being said, alongside the boom, we’ve seen a higher percentage of UK residents interested in starting a career in the yachting industry. Crew training academies are your first port of call when looking to embark on an exciting career journey. They provide you with all the necessary training and qualifications to find your first yacht job, whether you’re interested in becoming a stewardess, deckhand, yacht engineer or yacht chef.

Based on the Isle of Wight, the UKSA is a national maritime charity. The training courses that they offer include but are not limited to; STCW, AEC1&2, GMDSS, Security Training courses, Leadership and Management courses, Superyacht Stewardess and Steward courses as well as the OOW and Master 3000 modules.

3. Flying Fish

Specialising in Superyacht training courses such as the Yachtmaster Ocean and Yachtmaster Offshore courses, as well as Water Sports and other Superyacht training courses, Flying Fish is a training centre that prides itself on a personal touch provided during courses. Part of the Viking Maritime Group , The Maritime Skills Academy have locations in Portsmouth and Dover. The academy offers the UK’s first purpose-built marine safety and training centre using a classroom environment and on-site fire ground. Courses on offer include STCW training, deck training, medical training and fire safety.

SKYDIVE COURSES FOR THE BEGINNER.

1. start your skydiving career with an accelerated free-fall course..

New to skydiving? No worries, our experienced instructors are here to help you find your wings!

Learn basic survival skills and elementary tricks for free-fall and canopy piloting in an Accelerated Free-Fall (AFF) course. This 10-jump program follows a simple to complex progression through the student skydiver's skills grid and is being administered in a one-on-one format by your personal AFF Instructor.

Visit our ACCELERATED FREE-FALL COURSE tutorial and learn all there is to know about the structure of your AFF course and associated tuition fees, registration requirements, available AFF course dates and booking procedures with the Flight Club skydiving school in Russia.

Once you have successfully mastered all targeted learning objectives of your AFF course, you will be a qualified self-supervised skydiver, meaning that you have been cleared to skydive solo without instructor free-fall supervision.

With more than 20,600 skydives and exceeding 300 hours of freefall experience, Stephan is nothing short of a skydiving machine.

Over the past 25 years, he has made a name for himself working in lead positions with the who-is-who of the international skydiving scene. Stephan has traveled the world as a coach certification course conductor representing Skydive University Inc., has founded the Arizona Training Center in Eloy and worked as chief instructor at the New Zealand Skydiving School and at Skydive Dubai. In addition, he spent some years as the alternate and training partner to world champion skydiving teams Arizona Airspeed and the US Army Parachute Team- the Golden Knights 8-way.

Stephan holds skydive coach-, instructor- and examiner ratings endorsed by the respective authorities in USA, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and Russia and is an appointed Safety and Training Advisor to the United States Parachute Association.

Our Instructor Examiners can help you qualify for Coach ratings, AFF instructor and Tandem instructor ratings sanctioned by the United States Parachute Association (USPA), as well as for manufacturer specific endorsements such as the United Parachute Technologies (UPT) Vector/ Sigma Tandem instructor rating.

In 2006 the Flight Club skydiving school went international and since has established its home base 60 miles south of Moscow city, right in the very heart of the renown aviation super-center Aerograd Kolomna:

Visitors and guests of the Aerograd Kolomna aviation super-center enjoy a modern onsite infrastructure which is comparable to that of a small vibrant town.

2. TRAIN TO GET YOUR USPA SKYDIVING LICENSE.

Now that you have successfully passed your AFF course and are skydiving by yourself it's "game-on" and time to take your skydiving career to the next level. Progress with us through the skydiving ranks and qualify for entry-stage-, intermediate- and expert level skydiving licenses. Graduates at the Flight Club skydiving school are being issued United States Parachute Association (USPA) sanctioned licenses, which are internationally recognized  parachutist certificates of proficiency and  endorsed as such by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI). 

With each USPA skydiving license you acquire, comes a new set of privileges: 

an USPA A-license will allow you to engage in group skydives with your friends, a USPA B-license lets you skydive at night, a USPA C-license enables you to participate in certain demonstration jumps and a USPA D-license will open the door for you to attend skydive instructor rating certification courses.

1. SKYDIVE ORGANIZING .

In Flight Club, we have some pretty seasoned skydivers in our ranks, pros which have skydived with literally thousands of people over the years. 

In the process, they figured out how to read the game well and learned to accurately gauge the players on the pitch in no time. We understand that skydivers want to be safe, have fun, push the envelope a little bit, build some confidence in the process and last but not least, make some friends on the drop-zone. 

Our skydive load-organizers are here for exactly all of that. We organize individual flyers of compatible skill into groups, help you engineer your skydive, and assist in executing and debriefing your group skydives.

2. PERSONAL COACHING .

Flight Club's skydive training curriculum features progressive skills development courses custom-designed to help you master individual skills sets in free-fall and under canopy and typically last anywhere from a day to a week.

Our multi-lingual professional coaches teach in a one-on-one environment and facilitate a holistic teaching style in a "top down" format, meaning we teach from the latest high-performance models in all aspects of sport skydiving: 

equipment knowledge, effective motor-skill development during the preparation phase, psychological aspects of the in-flight phase, correct execution of bio-mechanic principles and mental toughness in-air, increased situational awareness and sound decision making under canopy, systematic detailed skill analysis and SMART debriefing sequences.

1 - Select your jet aircraft

L-29 delfin trainer jet.

The L-29 Delfin trainer jet is a Soviet military plane produced in Czechoslovakia between 1963 and 1974. At its time, the L-29 was the primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Force’s pilots .

Its turbojet engine producing close to 9kN of thrust allows the L-29 to climb at an impressive rate of 14m/s. The plane top speed is 820 km/h , similar to most conventional airliners.

L-39 Albatros fighter jet

The L-39 Albatros has been developed to succeed the L-29 Delfin as primary trainer jet for the Soviet Air Forces from the early 1970s on to the late 1990s.

Additionally to its versatile trainer role, the L39 was being used as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft and in combat as a light ground attack aircraft .
