We are delighted that you are interested in the Morro Bay Yacht Club! Our yacht club is small and unique, located on the west coast of the USA, and is known for being among the friendliest and most helpful of yacht clubs. We are a relaxed, enthusiastic and friendly club, eager to promote the enjoyment of boating. Our club consists of a casual environment, with formal wear only required for Opening Day and the Commodore’s Ball. The Morro Bay Yacht Club’s primary focus is boating, with our By-laws requiring that the majority of our members own boats.

We welcome visitors to participate in our varied events before considering applying for membership. Our scheduled activities are listed under the CALENDAR section of this website and include Friday night Happy Hours, summertime Hamburger Nights & Wet Wednesdays, bimonthly Fun Floats for kayakers, paddleboarders and canoeists, weekend Bay and Ocean races, Junior Sailing and Summer Sailing programs and more. You may join in our boating activities using your own boat or crewing on those of club members. Interested persons are welcome to assist in our many programs.

We are a totally volunteer club, hiring only janitorial services and a sailing instructor. Because we are a volunteer club, activities and maintenance are done with the volunteer labor of club members. Our members take pride in working together to maintain the appearance of the building and grounds, ensure that safety standards are met, provide a welcoming dock and facility for our own members as well as transient boats, coordinate social activities, and support boating activities along our central California coast.

To be considered for membership, interested persons must have the sponsorship of two MBYC members, members who have known the applicants well for a minimum of 6 months. Applicants are asked to participate in a minimum of 4 MBYC related activities, with at least 2 activities being boating related. Applicants must meet the majority of our Board members and as many club members as possible before applying for membership. Sponsors will assist prospective members in meeting the requirements for membership. Once qualifications have been met, sponsors and prospective members will meet with the Membership Committee. Upon recommendation of the Membership Chair, the MBYC Board of Directors shall vote on the applicant’s membership. Sponsors shall initiate the membership application process by downloading the sponsor and membership forms located in the “Member Area” of the MBYC website.

Membership fees consist of a one-time only initiation fee of $1200 per family, and annual dues of $450 per year. The annual dues are based upon the calendar year and are prorated depending upon when new members join. Junior (up to age 21) membership is $100, and any siblings are an additional $60 each through recommendation by the Junior Advisor and Board acceptance.

We eagerly look forward to new members joining our club and are happy to facilitate the process for those enthusiastic individuals wanting to join our boat-oriented organization.
