The Marina di Porto Rotondo, has succeeded in getting both the approval and the esteem of the gotha of the nautical international tourism.

The Marina dii Porto Rotondo, since the first years of the 60s, has succeeded in getting both the approval and the esteem of the gotha of the nautical international tourism, thanks to the easy mooring and also to the wonderful surrounding landscape, that contributed to transform it in one of the most coveted destination of the Mediterranean sea.

Even the ancient Romans used this beautiful natural port for their trades. The columns carved more than 2,000 years ago and positioned at the entrance of the port testify. A long history which in recent times has coincided with the Gallura tourism's growth.

Built by the Conti Donà delle Rose ,the Marina di Porto Rotondo coincides with the tourist development of Gallura and Sardinia, and, during the years, has offered a more and more available moorings and assistance services. During the 80s, the Marina di Porto Rotondo was taken by the Ciga group ,and, in the first half of the 90s the estate has been taken over by Molinas Group, event that gained the attention of the domestic and international press, owing to the fact that it was the first time that a Sardinian entrepreneurial group took the legal ownership of a facility that had always been managed by entrepreneurs with different origin.

Molinas starts to restore of the facilities and the extant installation, and also to increase the number of moorings, above all those for boats longer then 30 mt. allowing to host those that, in some periods of the year, are compelled to be at anchor owing to the lack of berthing; thanks to these improvements, Molinas obtained the praise of the press ( by instance the prestigious Yacht and Sail , that considered the Marina di Porto Rotondo one of the best marina in Europe ) for the accuracy and the quality of the offered services . Also the variety of the sporting events referred to the Marina and to the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo has been improved ; all the sporting contests started training the club " Italia", that made a good competition during the America Cup in Freemantle ( Australia 1987). After a period in association with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda,, nowadays the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo is the centre of some international contests, among which: - the "Perini Navi Cup" ,that, every two years ,gathers the more prestigious crafts manufactured by the homonymous shipyard, gathering created for the first time in the year 2006. - the sailing race " Audi invitation", that, every year promotes contests of FARR40 and TP52 , in which, as prescribed by the rules, the shipowner has to be the helmsman during the sailing races. Thanks to this rule, very important persons, as H.M. Juan Carlos of Spain have steered their craft. - The "Baltic Cup " contests among crafts having different dimensions (medium and big crafts) - The international sailing race" Bailli de Suffren " , from Saint Tropez to Malta, with a two days stay in Porto Rotondo, considered by the crews one of the most charming marinas, for the landscape and the reception. - The "Vele Latine at Porto Rotondo", that can be considered as a parade of old ladies of the sea. - The wonderful parade " Vele d'Epoca", a gathering of all sizes crafts , some of which are piloted by the best skippers and sailors. -The legendary "Regata dei Legionari" , that every year ends the sailing races season . All the sailing crafts can compete in this sailing race, that is very famous for its fervent match races.

Yacht club porto rotondo.

The competitive team of the Porto Rotondo Yacht Club was founded around the year 2000 and carries out training throughout the year on boats such as Optimist One Design and Laser type 4.7, Radial and Standard. The Board of Directors have always believed in youth activity and invest heavily on it, as the flagship and social and sporting future of the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo. The team is a source of great satisfaction for the results obtained during the participation in the various regattas that take place at regional and national level. Recently some of them took part in one of the stages of the Italian Sailing League that took place in Porto Cervo, in the company of their coach and an exceptional helmsman like Andrea Mura, reporting a good success. Currently the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo can count on about twenty athletes between competitive and pre-competitive.

One of the most important places for national and international tourism. It is a jewel in the crown, along with  Porto Cervo , forthe Gallura area, on the north-eastern coast of Sardinia. Porto Rotondo is a district in  Olbia , a few kilometres from  GolfoAranci ,  Palau  and  Arzachena . In 500 hectares of territory, between the gulfs of Cugnana and Marinella, with a highly-equipped tourist port with 800 moorings for boat, there are about a thousand residents in winter. In the summer, there are sometimes as many as 30 thousand inhabitants in the villas, timeshare homes and residences built around an initial nucleus of the village, dating back to 1964. It was started by the Venetians, Luigi and NicolòDonàdalle Rose, as part of an initiative undertaken by a group of entrepreneurs. This is where its architecture, which decidedly resembles the structure of Venice, comes from and, not surprisingly, the main square is Piazzetta San Marco. Along with the magnificent residences, there are also numerous luxury and extra-luxury hotels.

Poltu Rutundu  (in Gallura dialect) is considered one of the most ‘in’ places in Sardinia and the whole of Italy: it is easy to encounter famous personalities, especially in the summer, at nightclubs. Big names from the world of high finance and show business personalities choose it as a summer residence.

It is generally considered a  Costa Smeralda  locality, even though it is technically not part of it, based on what was established by the Costa Smeralda Consortium. This has led to a certain rivalry between the Porto Rotondo‘rotondini’ and the Porto Cervo‘cervini’, each wanting to be leader of the most renowned locality.

In Porto Rotondo, every year, at the end of August, the  Big Game  is held. This is a deep-sea fishing sports event, among the most important and spectacular in the Mediterranean. The Porto Rotondo Yacht Club, officially established in 1985, has become one of the most important at national level, maintaining a strong link with the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa.

Lo Yacht Club Porto Rotondo è stato fondato nel 1985 da un gruppo di appassionati del mare e di Porto Rotondo e da sempre ha sede nello splendido edificio in legno di larice realizzato dall’architetto veneto Malgaretto. Nel 1987, pur mantenendo una certa autonomia, venne incorporato come sede “distaccata”, dallo Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, presieduto dall’Aga Khan. In questi anni la collaborazione attiva con "la casa madre” di Porto Cervo si concretizzò nel vivace scambio di soci autorevoli, nell’intensa attività sportiva internazionale e in prestigiose rassegne di barche d’epoca, per concludersi dopo 10 anni. Il Club ha proseguito percorrendo strade nuove con un gruppo di affezionati al glorioso “guidone” sotto la guida dell’Ammiraglio Luciano Fontana e contando su un Consiglio Direttivo dinamico e fiducioso nelle potenzialità di un Circolo in grado di realizzare iniziative di rilievo e di valorizzare le grandi risorse di Porto Rotondo in un contesto internazionale. Porto Rotondo “Southern Wind Family Weekend”

Eight Southern Wind yachts ranging from 78 to 105 feet took part last week in the Southern Wind Family Rendezvous held in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia over two unforgettable days.

On Saturday and Sunday, the yachts chased each other through the islands of the Golfo di Congianus and the Archipelago della Maddalena. Carefree days ended with the sound of corks popping from magnums of champagne in the Golfo di Marinella off Porto Rotondo.

The Yacht Club Porto Rotondo offered a stunning backdrop for the celebration where owners and their friends and families enjoyed sailing and relaxing in true Southern Wind family spirit.

On Saturday morning the participants gathered in front of a lovely breakfast for the event briefing and after the day at sea, the Count Donà dalle Rose, founder of the YCPR, kindly welcomed the Rendezvous guests to his prestigious club for dinner. An awards cocktail closed the event on Sunday evening.

“The enthusiastic participation of so many of our owners shows us how united the Southern Wind community is. It was wonderful to see so many old friends and to welcome so many new ones. Owning a Southern Wind yacht also means this: 

performance sailing in a stunning fleet, not necessary racing but challenging friends and like-minded owners. These SWS Rendezvous events focus on the ultimate essence of yachting: pure sailing enjoyment”  said Andrea Micheli , Southern Wind’s Commercial Director.
