Tecsew manufactures a superior range of Biminis for different types of vessels which are stylish, well designed, and most importantly, they work.
Good design is everything when it comes to clearing winches and maximising the height that is available under the boom. Winches, Cleats and Halyards together with boom height and mainsheet position are all important considerations, and our 3D CAD design process (developed in-house) enables us to produce a better Bimini.
Our Biminis are fully functional together with an exclusive specification that you will find hard to better and are effective in offering protection and comfort to both helmsman and crew.
All our Biminis are premium products with features like Sunbrella Plus canvas and zipped pockets. Our frames are heavy-duty 316 Stainless Steel and our quick release frame fittings come as standard, not as optional extras.
Our Biminis can be further enhanced with the addition of optional side shade panels or even converted into a full Bimini Enclosure . We use our unique 3D CAD design process to achieve the best possible design, and we have many standard CAD patterns shown in our website gallery.
We use superior fabrics that can withstand harsh elements in the toughest marine environments and are UV resistant. Most Sailing Yacht Biminis come with a roof window and blind together with a neck shade panel as standard, features you are unlikely to find in competitors’ products.
Tecsew Biminis come in a wide variety of colours and specifications to suit both your personal preference and boat features. We take pride in ensuring accurate production to come up with reliable and functional boat canvas and accessories. Nearly all standard designs are available for self-fitting and we export to Europe, Scandinavia and the Far East.
We can also fit webbing loops to secure solar panels or Solar panel pockets (a more expensive option) as per shown in the photo above.

What is a Bimini on a Sailboat? And Why You Should Install One
So, you bought your new sailboat and can’t wait to set sail and explore the seas? Or are you thinking of ways to make new adjustments and install new gear on it? As you already know, weather conditions play a crucial role in sailing. Therefore, it is important to install some kind of protection on your boat so as not to get sunburned, wet, overheated, and drained. Because if you head out on the water without proper protection from natural phenomena this will likely put you at risk. So, installing a bimini top on your boat is a great choice so as to ensure protection from the sun and rain. Let’s see what exactly is a bimini top, how to install it, and some useful info about them. Keep reading!
What Exactly is a Bimini Top?
Bimini tops basically protect you and your sailboat from the elements. They create shade and at the same time retain visibility from the helm and allow the air to circulate. Generally, they’re inexpensive and easy to install on pontoons, powerboats, and sailboats. Most of the time, a bimini cover is an open-air canvas canopy that has sturdy metal frames supporting it. Moreover, it’s waterproof, free-standing, and has an open-front cover that protects several areas of your boat from the sun or rain. They also offer protection from the wind, spray, and saltwater when sailing.
There are biminis that have side panels to the top and are attached with either zippers or snaps. These biminis refer to a fully-enclosed bimini. You can choose between a wide range of colors, sizes, configurations, and fabrics that will suit your boat. Furthermore, biminis improve your sailboat’s cockpit, deck, and overall appearance. Lastly, accurate width, length, and height measurements are essential before installing a bimini on your sailboat.
What to Consider Before Installing a Bimini Top
- Length: Your bimini’s length can be calculated by measuring the fore and aft area of the mounting point. For instance, a 6ft bimini covers 3ft in front and 3ft behind the mounts. You can also tailor the bimini’s length from 3 to 10ft. Usually an 8 or 10ft bimini is used on pontoon boats.
- Width: Width is the most important measurement to take for installing a bimini. Your bimini’s frame width is estimated by measuring between the points where the mounts are connected to the gunwales. Remember, that this measurement is not equal to the boat’s beam. Widths are available in 6” ranges and frames can extend to 3″.
- Height: Installing a high bimini means that you’ll have more headroom, especially in boats with low gunwales. In order to ensure an accurate height measurement, you can stand inside the boat and measure the vertical distance upward from the mounting points. Like this, you’ll determine how much headroom you can have. For instance, a pontoon boat uses a taller top whereas a ski boat will normally have a shorter bimini.
- Fabrics: Always choose the bimini’s fabric according to the weather conditions that it will be exposed to. Also, the material has to be waterproof, strong, and able to withstand UV rays, and preferably double-stitched. Fabrics include canvas, vinyl, acrylic, mixed blends, and polyester. Keep in mind that sun exposure deteriorates the fabric’s water repellency and protection from the elements. So, regular maintenance of bimini tops will prolong their lifespan. Always, choose the right fabric treatment that will repel water, prevent staining, and restore UV resistance.
Bimini Configurations
Bimini tops come in two-, three-, and four-bow configurations, as described below. Remember that the maximum distance between the bows is generally 42″ or less. Bear in mind that you have to keep the spread between bows from getting too wide and thus preventing water from puddling between them. Let’s see the basic bimini configurations:
- Two-bow : This configuration goes for jon boats as well as for shorter V-hull. They’re really cheap, lightweight, and provide protection for the whole boat’s area.
- Three-bow : Three-bow configuration suits for V-hull, open deck boats, cuddy cabin boats, center consoled boats, and for all medium-sized vessels.
- Four-bow : Four-bow configuration goes for pontoon, cabin cruiser, and longer center console boats. You can find them at 8ft or more in length and that is why they’re adequate for longer vessels.
Bimini Top Materials
In case you’re sailing in humid and hot climates then you should prefer a breathable fabric with high mildew and UV resistance. However, if you’re sailing in northern climates, where ice or snow is likely to accumulate on your bimini, you have to choose a highly waterproof fabric. Moreover, choose a material color that will match the boat’s hull or superstructure colors.
- Woven acrylic: This fabric has a soft appearance and is water-resistant. Acrycil can endure UV rays and has excellent fade resistance and strength. However, every few years, the fabric has to be maintained or replaced. Also, woven acrylic is prone to leaking. Therefore, it has to be re-waterproofed after a thorough cleaning. Acrylic tops tend to be more expensive and not really abrasion-resistant like other fabrics. On the other hand, woven acrylic offers great breathability and resistance when exposed to the elements.
- Vinyl: Vinyl fabrics for bimini tops, like Stamoid, are basically vinyl-coated fabrics. This type of fabric is highly preferred by sailors because when there’s too much water on top they immediately lead it for runoff from the sides. This material is durable, easy to clean, and has a long lifespan. A great advantage is that the composite’s vinyl component is highly water-resistant thus can withstand the rigors of the sea. It’s also less expensive than woven acrylic. However, vinyl biminis aren’t breathable.
- Polyester: Polyester fabrics such as Top Gun, are solution-dyed fabrics and can excellently withstand exposure to UV-rays. Polyester bimini tops are strong and resist stretching thus they always maintain their shape. They tend to fade faster than other materials but are more abrasion resistant and water repellent.
Threads, Frames and Fittings
Generally, UV rays, rain, moisture, and other elements can damage the thread. And that’s why the thread that holds the bimini can be a weakness in the whole system. So, always choose a high-quality thread, like Tenara, that may be expensive but has a long lifespan and is extremely durable.
As for the bimini top frames you can choose between stainless steel or aluminum ones. Stainless steel is a sturdy material, corrosion-resistant, and more expensive than aluminum. Moreover, due to stainless steel strength, you can sail at high speeds and upwind without worrying about it falling apart. On the other hand, if you’re sailing in freshwater environments, aluminum is what you should choose and is generally more economical than stainless steel. Keep in mind that aluminum tubings have to be anodized in order to resist pitting and corrosion.
Fittings hold the bimini’s tubes and should always be made of high-quality stainless steel. Stainless steel fittings are durable and extremely strong; that’s why they’re always more expensive than others. For instance, coated brass fittings are cheap but they aren’t corrosion-resistant and are prone to breaking or deforming.
Bimini Tips for Maintenance
- Once a month, check all deck fittings to ensure they’re tight enough.
- Once a month, check screws and straps in order to see if the frame and canopy are properly secured to the boat.
- Remove debris and dirt regularly from the fabric using a hose and then brush it with a soft sponge and biodegradable soap.
- Depending on your bimini’s fabric, it’s advisable to remove the bimini when sailing over 30 knots. This is because some fabrics are unable to withstand high speeds.
- Never leave the bimini top up year-round. Fold your bimini down when not in use and consider purchasing bimini boots in order to store the cover and protect it in the long-term.
- Make sure that hold-down straps are tight. There should be minor or no slack at all in the hold-down straps when they’re attached to the gunwales.
- When trailering consider folding the bimini to its lowest profile and then stow it in the storage boot.
- A good tip for cleaning is to use a solution of lukewarm water and biodegradable soap. Then rinse thoroughly and allow it some minutes to dry. Moreover, a marine-grade fabric or a vinyl cleaner can efficiently remove dirt and stains.
- In some cases, the combination of the bimini size, the boat’s position and weight, and the wind’s direction and strength might affect the boat handling. This is because the top tends to act as a kite which is a totally unsafe condition.
- Make sure that the bimini’s position allows for 360-degree visibility from the helm, when deployed or stowed. It’s crucial to have a clear vision to the stern, forward, and to port in order to ensure safe operation.
So, why you should install a bimini top on your sailboat? Because bimini tops offer overall protection from the elements without enclosing your boat. Having a bimini top will provide you shade and protection both for you and for your sailboat’s cockpit and other areas. Biminis can be adjusted and you can also choose from a wide variety of sizes, fabrics, colors, configurations, and characteristics. They can also be mounted in different places on the boat so as to provide as much shade as possible. They can be deployed and folded down quite easily when needed. Additionally, you can use bimini boots for efficient storage so as to keep the canopy protected. So, installing a bimini is worth the investment especially if you’re sailing for most time of the year. Wish you safe and shady voyages!

You can go around the island and stop by the beaches for a swim, stop by a shack and enjoy a local Kalik beer while enjoying the view of pastel colored wooden homes and breathe in the fresh ocean air. Once you finished exploring it’s time to go back to the marina, relax on your boat and get ready for dinner. You may choose a fancy dinner at Sabor restaurant inside the Hilton Resorts World Bimini or a local laid back option like Edith’s Pizza , which serves a lot more than pizza. Finish your night at the Casino at Hilton Resorts World Bimini. Or, if it’s a weekend, you may relax by the marina listening to live band music. Or, one of our weekend favorites is Big John’s Bar & Grill, which was just remodeled in April 2017
Let’s get the engine started and move the boat towards the area where dolphins like to hang around. If we’re lucky, you will be able to see some and even swim with them. We just ask that you keep in mind they are wild mammals and you should always take precautions.
We will mostly likely stop by the SSS Sapona Shipwreck by South Bimini, where you may enjoy amazing snorkeling . If your chartered yacht is equipped with a jet ski , this is the time to hop on one and take it around the shipwreck, jump in the water to snorkel and capture beautiful pictures to share back home.
On 2-night trips, we can take you to a private island called Cat Cay , located only 10 miles away from Bimini. Here visitors are permitted to moor for no more than 24 hours. Enjoy some fine cuisine at Nauticat Restaurant or Bu’s Bar for a more relaxed atmosphere.
The island is managed by Cat Cay Yacht Club and non-members may only visit accompanied by members. For a private tour for membership inquiries or more information, please visit their website.

Some Thoughts on Boat Biminis
In sunny climes, sail boat biminis are essential to provide shade to the cockpit, thus preventing the occupants from getting too crispy. In their simplest form, biminis are made up as a canvas canopy supported by a folding tubular stainless steel frame, with the whole shebang held in place by adjustable webbing straps fore and aft.
When the boat is heeling, and the sun's on the windward side, sidescreen extensions hooked to the guardrails will return shade to the cockpit.
But few sailboat cockpits are designed with future addition of boat biminis in mind, the ergonomics associated with winch and helm positions taking priority.
Sail boat biminis can be most awkward to retro-fit, so if it is to work well a lot of thought will need to go into its design. For example...
Sail Boat Biminis as an Extension to the Sprayhood?
Most UK sailboats sport a wide sprayhood for fairly obvious reasons. A relatively simple but effective boat bimini can be fashioned by attaching the forward edge of a suitably shaped piece of canvas to it. The after edge, stiffened by a batten, can be supported by the backstay if the mainsheet is forward of the cockpit, with the corners tensioned by webbing straps clipped to the coaming.
Otherwise boat biminis must be supported by a frame attached to the cockpit coaming such that it is cleared by the mainsheet. This type of bimini can often be developed by the addition of zip-on or roll-down back and sides, to fully enclose the cockpit when in harbour.
The downside of this approach is that it will be necessary that the windows in the sprayhood can be zipped out to provide some airflow through the cockpit. The zips will be an area of weakness, and will eventually leak.
Incidentally, our American friends call our sprayhood a dodger, and what we Brits call cockpit dodgers, weather-cloths.
Freestanding or Folding Boat Biminis?
A fixed version of a boat bimini can be designed to incorporate a boom gallows, support solar panels and provide extra handholds in the cockpit. But unless the cover is easily removable, it's also there when you don't want it, such as in strong winds. More importantly, if the bimini impedes access to and from the cockpit at all, it is best if it can be removed during the hours of darkness.
On larger yachts, boat biminis can become quite a substantial structure, such that it would be a handful for the crew to lower it at sea. This problem is overcome by making one section of the frame fixed, usually the aft section, so that the remaining frames can fold back to it. This can eliminate some of the difficulties referred to below, but creates additional windage and weight aloft that could be reduced by folding the bimini down flat.
Should Boat Biminis Fold Forward or Aft?
The key considerations here are
- the location of the bimini mounting point in relation to the sheet winches, and
- the position of the mainsheet traveller.
Generally, if it's mounted outboard of the winches it will need to fold aft, astern of the winches, otherwise it will lie on the headsail sheets. If the mainsheet traveller is positioned at the after end of the cockpit, the folded bimini must not foul it, and the mainsheet must be clear of any part of the raised bimini at any point of sail. The position of any runners or checkstays when set up must also be taken into account.
If the boat bimini mounting point is inboard of the winches, then the limitations caused by the headsail sheet leads will not apply. But the bimini will be narrower and the shaded area below smaller. If it folds forward it must not fall across the companionway, or foul a mainsheet traveller mounted at the forward end of the cockpit.
Height, Length and Width?
The maximum height of the bimini is governed by the clearance under the boom when the mainsail is sheeted in hard. But it should not be any higher than necessary or shade when heeled may be reduced. Ideally about 100mm of clearance above head height should be available when sitting out on the coaming, or when standing in the cockpit well.
It should be long enough to protect the helmsman and cover as much of the cockpit as possible, but the longer it is the more steel hoops it will need to support it.
The maximum width will be determined by the position of the mounting points either inboard or outboard of the sheet winches.
Mounting Point, and Fore And Aft Support?
The ideal fore and aft mounting position will be largely dependant on the previous considerations concerning folded position and height, but if you were not yet aware that compromise is a major part of yacht design, you will now become so.
Because, having selected the preferred mounting point;
- the winch handle will foul the support tubing;
- there will be a light fitting in the aft cabin directly below the mounting point bolts;
- access to the underside of the mounting point will be impossible in the cockpit locker;
- if the height is right it won't fold down in the right place;
- if it folds down in the right place it won't go under the boom;
- it folds back against the backstay;
- it's smack in the middle of your favourite sitting-out position.
Some of these problems can be overcome by using sliding fittings at the hinge points and by mounting the whole shebang on cars which slide along lengths of track either side of the cockpit.
But there's no short answer. Just make up a pattern from timber battens or light tubing and play around with the geometry until you get it as "right" as you can.
Adjustable webbing straps attached to each corner will secure the bimini in position but may impair access in and out of the cockpit. Alternatively if space permits, short stainless support struts pinned to the coaming can be used. The pins will be of the quick-release type which will enable the bimini to fold in the same way.
Fabrication of Boat Biminis
Ideally the frame should be fabricated in 25mm stainless steel with stainless steel fittings throughout. Aluminium tubing can be used and is cheaper in the short term, but it is hardly strong enough, will corrode, and any stainless fittings used with it will seize solid after a time.
The canopy is best made from UV-resistant polyester or acrylic canvas, sewn up with UV-resistant thread.
If you possess the necessary skills and equipment to do the welding, tube cutting and bending yourself, then all the other stainless steel fittings can be purchased seperately. Otherwise, I would recommend that you get a stainless steel fabricator to bend the tubes and weld in the end fittings. He will be very pleased to work to your design, as if it doesn't fit it won't be his fault.
The cover is best made from uv resistant polyester or acrylic fabric, sewn up with uv resistant thread. Some yachtsmen favour white fabric, as it reflects the heat. However it can still let the sun's glare through. For this reason we prefer a dark canvas, relying on a through flow of air to dissipate any heat.
Whilst your sailmaker will be happy to make the cover for your bimini, you can save a few pounds by making it yourself. You will need a robust sewing machine though, ideally one with a walking foot and a zigzag stitch facility.
Incidentally, if you do go down the make-it-yourself route, it's worth thinking about incorporating a rain-catcher in your boat biminis.
It was in designing Alacazam's boat bimini that the foregoing issues became apparent.
Only after the best part of a day messing about in the cockpit with timber battens and bits of string did I feel confident to commit to stainless steel tubing.
But now we have a simple, effective, aft folding boat bimini with roll-up sidescreens that takes only a few minutes to put up and take down, and which now ranks alongside the Aries Self Steering Gear as one of the indispensable items of cruising equipment.
Finally, if you are thinking of making a bimini for your boat, you'll find this bimini installation video very useful...

Bimini and canopies
A bimini is a great cover to give protection from sun and rain. This type of cover tends to be situated aft of the yacht and focuses on the helmsman, though this is not always the case. A lot depends on the boom and how far the boom comes into the cockpit when going up wind. Design options are many and can be the bases of a full enclosure or can be connected to a dodger with infill awning.
Ocean Covers can also supply a range of solar panels , of different size and power, and attach them to your bimini. Click here for more details
Tips & Tricks:
Having a window built on the top of the bimini will allow the helmsman to trim the main. Biminis tend to be quite big and have to be taken down in certain weather conditions. It is important that this can be done easily and quickly

Are you planning a sailing trip in Bimini? We help with itineraries, ports, yacht rental options, & other useful sailing information. Get our help! Bimini is the Bahamian island located closest to the United States. It can be found only 80 kilometres from the shores of Florida. It consists of three islands: North Bimini, South Bimini, and East Bimini. The largest island, which is also the most significant one in terms of tourism, is North Bimini. Although the group of islands is relatively small, it is still a unique world waiting to be explored. The waters of the area are incredibly clean: we can see the sandy sea bottom under our boat. It is an amazing spectacle to see the coastal waters changing their colours from dark blue to green when approaching the ocean.

Marine gas near Bimini
Bimini has a subtropical climate, characterised by moderate warm weather during the entire year. The average annual temperature is 28° Celsius; this means 21° Celsius in the winter and 27° Celsius in the summer. The temperature rarely drops below 16° Celsius or above 32° Celsius. The dominant wind blows from the northeast in the winter and from the southeast in the summer, freshening up the air a bit. The velocity of the wind is an average of 15 km/h during the entire year. Most of the precipitation falls in the summer months. At the end of the summer – during the period between June and November – tropical cyclones (hurricanes) may be a threat.
The strong wind (with a blast of over 90 km/h) and the seawater that rises, as a result, may cause heavy damage. The weather is usually pleasant in Bimini during the whole year, meaning that sailing is also enjoyable in all seasons. We should definitely avoid the hurricane season though, as storms may be very challenging. Check the sailing conditions and wind rose diagram of Bimini
North Bimini
As its name suggests, the main island of the archipelago, North Bimini, is located in the north. The most important towns of the area can be found here: Alice Town, Bailey Town and Paradise Point. The archipelago is sparsely populated; most people live in North Bimini, which is the most buzzing island. There are several restaurants, bars and shops that visitors can choose from; the Hemingway Museum is located in Alice Town. Bimini Road, which is among the most exciting diving spots in the Bahamas, can be found in the northern corner of the island. They say that this is where the remains of the sunken city Atlantis are.
There are many yacht marinas, anchorages and long beaches here. Blue Water Marina, Browns Marina and Resort Word Bimini are all great establishments providing full service. Weech’s Bimini Dock is a cheaper and less exclusive marina, but we can find all the basic amenities here as well. Bimini Big Club is very popular among the visitors of Bimini; it is a first-class entertainment facility and a yacht marina at the same time.
South Bimini
South Bimini is the second-largest island in the archipelago. There are many private estates here making this place less significant in terms of tourism than its northern counterpart. However, the most important international airport of the archipelago, South Bimini Airport, is located here. The yacht marina called Bimini Sands Marina has a certificate thanks to its excellent waters. Also, the services offered here will cater to all the needs of yacht owners. There are a customs and immigration office at the entrance where we can arrange our clearance. It is an ideal central destination. Nixon’s Harbour is located in the southern corner of the island with great anchorages and moorings. The famous wreck of the SS Sappona can also be found nearby; it is a popular diving and snorkeling spot.
There are some smaller islands south of Bimini. The first is Gun Cay, app. 10 kilometres from the southern corner of South Bimini. One of the most popular anchorages is at the northern end; all Bahamian sailors stop at Honeymoon Harbour. The area is spectacular, and its beach is among the most beautiful ones. A unique symbol of the island is the lighthouse located in the south, standing here since 1836.

Day 1. North Bimini, Bimini Big Game Club – South Bimini, Bimini Sands Marina
2.00 km (1.24 mi)

14.15 km (8.79 mi)
It is also worth spending a day on Gun Cay during our trip. This small island is famous for its beautiful beach, and there is also a lighthouse that we can visit here. Given that the weather and the winds are ideal, we can anchor on any side of the island or even at Honeymoon Harbour. The sea bottom is suitable for a secure anchorage, but we should double-check just to be sure.
Day 3. Gun Cay – Lighthouse Yacht Club and Marina, Andros
196.10 km (121.85 mi)
On the third day, we are headed towards Nassau and stop for a short break on Andros. This is the largest island of the Bahamas, with a quite big area still unexplored. Lighthouse Yacht Club is the greatest yacht marina on the island and is a must-see stop for the visitors of the Bahamas. It is located at the junction of Fresh Creek and the Atlantic Ocean. It got its name from the 107-year-old lighthouse, which has become the symbol of the island. They have 31 moorings, and their services include fuel, electricity, and drinking water. We can use the laundry service and the showers and have a nice dinner in the club’s restaurant.
Day 4. Andros – Nassau Yacht Haven
67.15 km (41.73 mi)
Day 5. Nassau – Chub Cay, Berry Islands
64.60 km (40.14 mi)
On our way back, we can stop for a break at Chub Cay, belonging to the Berry Islands. The Yacht marina accommodates 110 vessels, and the depth of water is 3.5 metres. Services include a fuel dock, showers and a restaurant. There are several anchorages around the island. We can secure our boat firmly and enjoy a sandy beach nearby.
Day 6. Chub Cay – North Cat Cay
137.05 km (85.16 mi)
On the sixth day, we return to North Cat Cay near Bimini. If you do not own a property, your only opportunity to spend a few nights here is at Cat Cay Marina. The port is among the best-protected and best-equipped establishments in the area. There are 180 berths here and they also provide a fuel dock. The beach is very calm and enchanting, and there are great diving and fishing spots in the near vicinity.
Day 7. North Cat Cay – Blue Water Marina, Alice Town – Bimini Big Game Club
19.60 km (12.18 mi)
Blue Water Marina is a great yacht marina, providing full comfort to their guests. We can refuel, replenish our water and ice supplies, use the showers and the laundry service and visit the amazing restaurant. They accommodate 36 boats, and the depth of water is app. 4 metres. We can choose from many diving, fishing and other watersport activities.
7 Days Bimini sailing route (longer)
This route leads us to the Grand Bahama, so we have to do longer distances and should expect days spent entirely with sailing in the first part of the week. This is also a popular route from Bimini, as we can get to know another piece of the Bahamas on the small archipelago. The second part of the week will be more relaxing, as we will have an opportunity to wander around and explore the hidden gems of Bimini.

Bimini might be so popular mainly because of the fact that it is located close to the United States. The island itself is smaller than most members of the Bahamas, but it is just as diverse as any other island in the region. Dozens of marvellous beaches and waterfront activities await, making our trip to Bimini an unforgettable one. Find more Bahamas sailing tours or choose another yacht charter in the Bahamas

BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO BIMINI ISLANDS AND POINTS OF INTEREST
Bimini is the nearest Bahamian island (two islands) to the USA, barely 50 miles from Miami, it’s a very short trip and only a few hours by yacht from Miami. A tiny island of the Bahamas, Bimini is just 7 miles long and barely 700 feet wide at its widest point. Bimini is the western most island in the Bahamas and the closest foreign island to the US mainland and has previously been recognized mainly for the famous Hemingway era.
Whether you come with the family, as a couple, or single for bar hopping, casinos, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, tanning on the beaches, or relaxing in a hammock in the cool breeze, the Bahamas will leave you speechless and satisfied. A US Passport or birth certificate is required when traveling to the Bahamas.
BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO NASSAU, HARBOUR CAY, BERRY ISLANDS
The more ‘popular’ areas of the Bahamas begins in the Berry Islands, while on your way to Nassau, which are low-lying and unique with few inhabitants, fantastic fishing and the feeling of being on a different planet. Many groups make Chub Cay their first stop, then go north…or start in Great Stirrup Cay and go Southwards. Either way, even on a power-yacht, it will take a week or longer to when traveling by yacht. If leaving from Miami, charterers will cross the Gulf Stream with its seasonal uncertainties, with slight chances of the charter being delayed a day or so, if the seas are too rough, but this is not normally the case and the journey is well worth it!! Most our charter guests prefer to fly into Nassau, and board their sailing or motor yacht at the Atlantis Hotel and Marina, beginning their cruise in Bahamas, avoiding the seven-hour delivery across the Atlantic Ocean. Other charterers, especially the bare-boaters, like to fly into Marsh Harbour in the Abacos and rent a charter boat from there and explore the Sea of Abaco.
The Atlantis Hotel Casino and Resort is the largest and most amazing resort in all of Bahamas, offering 5-Star amenities for all ages including a theme waterpark, the Caribbean’s largest aquarium, interactive dolphin lagoon, world-class casino and spa, couture brand shopping center, and over a dozen fine dining restaurants. Many charters begin and end their charter at the Atlantis Marina, which provides just enough excitement and action for a couple of days, while other days are spent exploring the more remote islands.
For more information about the casino, visit http://www.atlantisbahamas.com/
BAHAMAS YACHT CHARTERS TO EXUMAS AND ABACOS
The Exumas chain of 365 islands (or cays) in the Bahamas, starts about 35 nm South of Nassau and runs about 120 nm South from Allen Cay, all the way to Georgetown that has an airport with regular scheduled flights. This is considered the most sought after location in the Bahamas with crystal-clear waters, swimming pigs, superb diving, friendly petting sharks, snorkeling, fishing and lots of neat little bays and coves to anchor out. Exumas is a special strip of private islands where one can find a lone Tiki beach bar in the middle of seemingly nowhere…in paradise! Be sure to visit Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, which some consider the most breathtaking place is the Exumas. http://www.exumapark.org. There are some great itineraries that start and end either in Nassau or Staniel Cay and cover the upper Exumas, Cat Island, Eleuthera, and Harbour island.
For the even more adventurous, a Georgetown pick-up and a route that includes the “Out-Islands” of the Bahamas is even more attractive for those of us who like remote and mostly uninhabited islands. The few locals you encounter are very friendly and polite. This route includes the islands of Rum Cay, Conception, San Salvador, Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Islands, and Mayaguana. The island of Great Inagua has a fine National Park and nature reserve with the largest population of West Indian Flamingoes, Parrots, and other bird species. Little Inagua has a large population of feral donkeys and goats that were originally left there (or escaped from) the numerous wrecks caused by the Inagua reef.
In the Northern Bahamas, the Sea of Abaco, with its three “major towns” of Marsh Harbour, Hopetown and Coopers Town and ringed by Green Turtle Cay, Treasure Cay and many others, constitutes a small isolated area with its own special culture and values. The Abacos are especially known for calm waters, warm breezes and panoramic beauty that make this 120-mile–long chain of islands a boating and sailing paradise. It’s not just the sea that attracts travelers from around the world. Those who prefer to explore by land will find championship golf courses on Treasure Cay, charming colonial towns on Green Turtle and Elbow Cays, and countless hotels, restaurants and bars throughout.
In summary, the Bahamas is not just Bimini and the casinos of Freeport, Lucaya, Nassau and Paradise Island. The real Bahamas can be seen only by a private charter boat and remains one of the most unbelievable recreational cruising grounds in the world.

When you charter a yacht to the Bahamas , you’ll visit a chain of tiny islands situated just west of the Bahamas that are merely a three hour boat ride away from South Beach, Miami. Bimini is rich in history, culture and is home to many landmarks that can be visited only by boat. Known for its laid back lifestyle, crystal clear water, pristine white sandy beaches and picturesque nature trails, visitors are pleasantly surprised with the many activities waiting to be explored. If you’re a diver or snorkeler, Bimini offers some of the finest aqua experiences around. Swim up close with wild dolphins and stingrays, or explore the age old remains of a mysterious shipwreck.
One of the most well known tourist destinations in the area is Underwater Bimini Road; an unusual rock formation that dates back centuries and is believed to be the remnants of an ancient human built road. Located near Bimini Road is what some people believe to be Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth. Locals call this pool of water the Healing Hole which lies at the end of a network of underground tunnels that pump cool, fresh water during outgoing tides.
Explore this beautiful island chain on a Chartered Yacht Vacation that you’ll never forget. We recommend spending two days in Bimini to experience the full atmosphere of the island and landmarks. We also recommend booking a stay at Bimini Bay Resort & Marina (www.rwbimini.com) for awesome restaurants and a Casino to try your luck!

Bimini Yacht Charter
Bimini consists of two main islands; North Bimini Island and South Bimini Island, as well as numerous cays. Located just 50 miles off Florida’s coast, it is easily reached by boat or plane.
The Gulf Stream rushes north, washing past Bimini, feeding and warming its coral reefs and serving as a watery highway for everything from marlins to mantas, dolphins to sea turtles. Even the famous author, Ernest Hemingway, was lured to Bimini by tales of the incredible fishing available here.
North Bimini is known for it's beaches and is the island's tourist hub. Alice Town and Bailey Town stretch the length of the narrow finger of land along the west of North Island and host restaurants, marinas and resorts.
South Bimini is nature-centric featuring eco tours, nature trails and marine research stations. It also has numerous stunning beaches and snorkeling and diving sites.
Only one airport serves Bimini. Daily scheduled air service is available from Nassau, Grand Bahama and Florida. There is also a seaplane service into Resorts World Bimini.

Use Sailo’s filters to customize your search by boat type ( sailboat rentals in Bimini , motor boat charters in Bimini , catamaran rentals in Bimini , or Bimini party boats ), price, number of people in your party, whether you need a captain or are renting bareboat, and your travel dates, as well as other filters that can narrow your results to your specific needs. This convenient search tool makes finding your Bimini boat rental simple and quick since you can select your preferences to find the exact charter you need for your trip.
Daily rentals are very common in South Florida, but because Bimini is so close, many visitors like to charter an overnight yacht and sail to Bimini for a slice of island paradise during their vacation to the area.
Overnight from South Florida to Bimini
Since visiting Bimini by a yacht charter from Florida is highly popular, we recommend renting a boat in Miami, Miami Beach, or Fort Lauderdale, sailing to Bimini, and staying overnight for one or multiple days at a time.
We recommend spending a long weekend in Bimini. Arrive in Miami or Fort Lauderdale and sail to Bimini, one of our favorite island destinations in the stunning Bahamas. Gorgeous blue waters will greet you with sparkling waves as you sail to paradise. Once you arrive, you’ve got to spend some time exploring the beautiful beaches that line the islands, as well as local cays like Honeymoon and Gun Cay.
And since tropical vacations are even more fun when you dive in the water and embrace the ocean to the fullest, we recommend checking with the boat owner to see if your rental can include water sports equipment for activities like snorkeling.
It’s also very popular to go on overnight fishing trips to this area, another activity you can ask the boat owner about.
In addition to trying the local Bahamian cuisine and checking out the shops and beaches on the island, you’ve got to add the S.S. Sapona to your list of must-sees in Bimini. This shipwreck is great to explore, whether you’re snorkeling or even fishing here.
Things to do in Bimini, Bahamas
You’ve got to take into account the weather when booking your Bimini boat rental as this area is known for tropical storms that can be pretty unpredictable. You never know when inclement weather may impact your trip or hinder your ability to sail from South Florida to the Bimini islands.
We recommend taking a look at the historic weather averages during the time you plan on sailing and booking your yacht charter during a time with typically milder weather, or at least avoiding peak hurricane season from June through October.
If you are looking for more recommendations or tips for visiting Bimini by a yacht charter, whether you’re traveling with a group, as a couple, with your family, or even by yourself on a solo sailing trip, we highly recommend reaching out to the boat representative to gain more insight on boat rentals in Bimini and the south Florida area. Cape Coral growth mushrooming. Here are 11 game-changing developments coming to the city.
Long-awaited developments including the much anticipated Seven Islands project are finally making headway in Cape Coral.
The 13th annual real estate show, Catch The Vision, showed a glimpse of the city's future developments, new housing, restaurants, and commercial projects.
Gloria Tate , event organizer and owner of Raso Realty, and Bill Johnson Jr., executive director at The Horizon Foundation, hosted the event Monday night.
Last year's program showcased the likes of Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Mellow Mushroom, and unveiled Red Fish Point.
Johnson said the event reflects the changing nature of Cape Coral itself as commercial projects become the main highlights.
"We're focusing more on bringing more commercial projects," Johnson said. "The ability for our residents to have all the amenities here in Cape Coral and not having to go across the bridge."
Cape Coral has a population of more than 200,000 and is estimated to get more than 100,000 new residents by 2050, for a total population of 318,503.
He's especially excited about the Seven Islands project, which he said will transform the city into a "whole destination."
"We will have a little something to do in each quadrant of the city," Johnson said. "Having amenities to where you can go downtown Cape Coral, but you don't have to anymore."
Here's what developments were highlighted:

Seven Islands/Gulf Gateway Resort and Marina Village
Seven Islands, now renamed Gulf Gateway Resort and Marina Village, is a mixed-use waterfront development of 995 residential units, commercial and retail, a 240-room hotel, restaurants, a public marina, a community center, and more on 47 acres along Old Burnt Store Road North.
"Anyone who is living in that area already will have multiple different options to go visit, dining, events," said Peter Baytarian, founding and managing partner of Forest Development, which is a team of real estate development professionals. "It's going to be a real attraction."
Forest Development is the manager of Gulf Gateway Resort and Marina and will seek variances in their development, to deviate from standard zoning, for seawalls to ensure the protection of the mangroves in the area.
The project's designs are in the final development stages and are expected to go before the council within the next 30 to 60 days, then a planning and zoning meeting, and back before the council for approval.
"Even though their zoning doesn't work for the seawall, we went ahead and developed the plan, (the city) approved it, and we went into permitting," said Sam Bauer, senior vice president of development at Forest Development. "So we are really ahead of the game."
Work cannot begin until the permits from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection are approved, and the developers anticipate a groundbreaking between 1 year and 6 months to 2 years from now.
Cape Christian
Cory Demel, the lead pastor for Cape Christian, hosts the event but also announced an expansion.
"We here at Cape Christian are a microcosm of what's happening in Cape Coral in that we have growth problems, we are growing faster than what we know what to do with," Demel said. "You are never going to find a place that's free of problems, but I think you can agree that ours are good ones because they are growth problems.
The church will break ground on a 1,300-seat auditorium that will be used for weekend services, but also by schools, cities, and different organizations.
Demel said there's a deficit for large meeting spaces in the city, so he's excited that the entire city can benefit from this project.
Paraiso at North Cape Coral
Paraiso, or Paradise, at North Cape, is a commercial plaza offering executive offices, retail stores, and restaurants with a water lookout.
The 5-acre project will be in northeast Cape Coral at 2601 Del Prado Blvd. N.
"Passing by that area, we noticed that there was a lot of residential housing and not that many plazas," said Dario Peretti with The Silver Group, a home builder group. "We are trying to make this a paradise in that area."
It's described as modern and family-friendly and will help elevate the community in northeast Cape Coral.
It will be groundbreaking in the next few months, with a plan to finish within a year, possibly by 2025.
Victory Park
Victory Park , a 138-acre life science campus in northeast Cape Coral, will include a main medical office complex, hundreds of housing units, a hotel, and a multi-use path.
It is between Diplomat Parkway East, NE 24th Avenue, Littleton Road, and Corbett Road, next to the VA Clinic Cape Coral.
Blue Waters Development Group is in the permitting process as it waits to build a 126,000-square-foot medical office campus, 308 apartment units, 112 townhome units, and a 125-room Wyndham Garden hotel.
"This will be a class A medical office building, and the adjacency to the VA clinic is so crucial to this," said Frank Nader with Blue Water Development Group.
Pre-leasing for phase 1 is underway for the medical office building.
Civitas of Cape Coral is a 4.65-acre, affordable, workforce multifamily community with 96 units at 123 Civitas Court, near Pine Island Road.
Michael Allan, president of ReVital Development Group, said the first residential building will be completed in late April or early May.
"The rents are gonna range anywhere from the low side about $475 to just under $1,800 for a three-bedroom," Allan said. "There's different income brackets per unit."
The remaining two buildings will be completed shortly afterward with the full project being completed in late June or Early Jully.
Allan said the government at every level is involved in this project as it received $9.9 million from the CDGB disaster recovery fund, state-issued bonds for low-income housing tax credit, $1 million from Cape Coral, and $2 million from Lee County to offset the cost of construction.
Shops of Del Sol and Shops of Del Mar
Shops at Del Mar and Shops at Del Sol are multi-use shopping plazas by TLD Developers , a developer in Aventura Florida.
They will be at 1019-1027 SW Pine Island Road, between Chiquita Boulevard and Santa Barbara Boulevard in Cape Coral.
"Del Sol is a little bit larger with 70,000 square feet of retail space, and Del Mar with about 30,000," Said Gaston Lulinski with TLD Developers.
They will bring restaurants, retail, medical, and recognizable brands and shopping with a sleek and modern design.
Lulinski said stores will begin opening in June 2025 in Del Mar, and June 2026 in Del Sol.
Cape Coral Grove
Cape Coral Grove is a "town center" project bringing more than 1,234 multi-family apartment units, two public parks, a hotel, and parking spaces.
The 131-acre parcel is next to Bubba's Roadhouse on Pine Island Road and will be 767,000 square feet.
Jim Zboril, president of L&L Development Group, said he expects to start construction in the next 90 days.
"We are very close with the city getting our permits for infrastructure," Zboril said.
He said the project will offer retail, restaurants, and offices, with a fitness and bowling center planned.
A 35-acre parcel at Pine Island Road and Veterans Parkway will bring a three-phased project with a 120-unit hotel, freestanding restaurant, and 10,000 square feet of retail.
Additionally, 600 apartments are planned in two phases.
"We hope that the project is able to create dozens of high-paying jobs because we focus on the hotel," said Ana Daniela Rodriguez, development manager at Gilbane Development Company. "It's something that Cape Coral really needs, there's very few hotels with high occupancy. We see a lot of need for more hotel rooms in the market."
The first phase, the commercial component, the hotel, restaurant, and retail space, is planned to be under construction at the end of this year.
Lake Shadroe
White Stone Developments, a Cape Coral-based real estate developer, is developing a 48-unit Airbnb vacation resort for the growing northwest part of Cape Coral.
"We are going to have amazing sunset views out over the water," Robert Knight, founder and CEO of White Stone. "We are just looking forward to adding a little bit to Cape Coral, to putting Cape Coral on the map for tourism."
The site is surrounded by residential areas and next to the city's Burnt Store Boat Ramp, a 4.5-acre boat launch facility that provides access to the North West Spreader canal.
Other amenities would include a waterfront restaurant, a gourmet café, a marina, a spa, and a cigar bar.
Plans for a mini marina will include 12 boat slips that will be rented out and reserved for different water-based activities like fishing and kayaking.
Knight said they are looking to break ground in May with a 16- to 18-month construction cycle for a late 2025 or early 2026 completion.
Lee Health and Bimini Square
CEO of Lee Health Dr. Larry Antonucci said the organization plans to invest more than $150 million in Cape Coral over the next few years.
"We are facing unprecedented growth here and as a result, we want to continue to grow to grow with the community as we have since 1996 when Cape Coral Hospital became part of the Lee Health family," Antonucci said.
Antonucci spoke on several plans for Cape Coral Hospital including adding fast-track rooms and observation beds to the emergency department, supplying more beds to have 34 beds in intensive care units, and the expansion of the dialysis program.
He also spoke on the shortage of providers saying that the recently begun internal medicine residency program at Cape Coral Hospital will bring 36 residents working and potentially staying there after the program ends.
"What we've learned is that about half of the doctors will stay where they do their residency training," Antonucci said. "We hope to retain many of those."
He also said he was excited about Bimini Square, which broke ground in October and will bring 47,000 square feet of medical space.
Bimini Square is a mixed-used development west of Four Freedoms Park that will include luxury apartments, a Deep Lagoon waterfront restaurant, and shops on three sites south of Cape Coral Parkway and west of Sunset Court.
The project consists of 13 parcels with five-story buildings on nearly 6 acre and includes a 25-slip transient boat dock, a parking garage, 500 spaces, and a commercial parking lot for the restaurant.
Medical office space compromises about 95% of the street floor frontage along Cape Coral Parkway.
"When we analyzed where the need was for outpatient ambulatory care, that lit up as the number one location," Antonucci said.
Lee Health is also planning a care center facility akin to the one at Coconut Point on Pine Island Road that would include an emergency department, physicians' offices, testing, a pharmacy, a lab, outpatient, surgery, and an observation area.
Additionally, a 13-acre parcel on Veterans Parkway will be developed into a comprehensive outpatient facility in the next few years.
The $103 million mixed-use project broke ground on Aug. 23, 2022, in downtown Cape Coral and will welcome its first resident in late summer.
The 3.9-acre site will have 19,000 square feet of retail, commercial, and office uses on the first floor, four restaurants, 327 luxury residential units, and a 611-space parking garage, with two floors reserved for the public.
