The world’s 17 most beautiful fountains, from paris’s stravinsky fountain, which features a niki de saint phalle statue, to osaka’s floating fountain, these structures have enhanced the public landscape.

Even in the age of impressive technological wonders, there’s still nothing quite as majestic as beautiful fountains. If you think back to your favorite movies, artful water features have served as the backdrop of some of cinema’s most iconic moments—from Anita Ekberg jumping in the Trevi Fountain in  La Dolce Vita  to the  Ocean’s 11  crew standing in front of the Bellagio fountains—and they’re as inspiring in real life as they are on the big screen. Today public fountains serve as communal art pieces, such as the Stravinsky Fountain in Paris or the Crown Fountain in Chicago; architectural marvels, including the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain on the Banpo Bridge in South Korea or the Swarovski Fountain in Austria; or beloved spots to cool down on a summer day, like the Julia Penrose Fountain in Colorado. Some of the world’s most beautiful fountains also come with architectural pedigrees, including designs by artist and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi and French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. We’ve gathered some of the most awe-inspiring—and sometimes record making—beautiful fountains from around the world, all of which enhance their respective cities and have made their mark on the landscape.

Nine floating fountains (osaka, japan).

Isamu Noguchi designed these soaring fountains for the 1970 World Expo, the theme of which was Progress and Harmony for Mankind. Noguchi’s plans for the United States pavilion were rejected, but he was offered the opportunity to create something for the reflecting pool designed by architect Kenzō Tange. Working with Shoji Sadao, Noguchi devised nine automated fountains that appear to float above the pool.

Water boat fountain (valencia, spain).

The Fuente del Barco de Agua, or Water Boat Fountain, in Valencia, Spain, uses streams of water to mimic the features of a sailing vessel. The simple metal frame sprays water, creating the sail and hull of the boat. The fountain is set near Playa de la Malvarrosa and appears to be headed out to sea.

Keller fountain park (portland, oregon).

Working with the firm Lawrence Halprin and Associates, landscape architect Angela Danadjieva designed Portland’s cascading Forecourt Fountain—later renamed for Ira Keller, the chairman of the Portland Development Commission. The fountain recalls the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge and 13,000 gallons of water flow through every minute. It became a local landmark after it was completed in 1970, and the  New York Times  architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable called the park “one of the most important urban spaces since the Renaissance.”

Vaillancourt fountain (san francisco, california).

Set on the Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco, the Vaillancourt Fountain was completed in 1971 by Quebecois Armand Vaillancourt. The fountain is made of concrete tubes and stands 36 feet tall and 200 feet long. It has been controversial since the beginning— San Francisco Chronicle  critic Allan Temko said it looked like it had been “deposited by a giant concrete dog with square intestines”—and it was once spray-painted by U2’s Bono during a free concert.

Champs-Elysées Marcel-Dassault Roundabout Fountains (Paris)

French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed this set of six fountains for Paris’s famous Avenue de Champs-Elysées. Each fountain features three branches which rotate around a central bronze mast. The branches include more than 250 Swarovski crystal elements and are illuminated by LEDs at night. The brothers designed the over-42-foot tall fountains to align with the surrounding trees.

Julie penrose fountain (colorado springs, colorado).

Designed by architect David Barber and sculptor Bill Burgess,  Continuum,  the Julie Penrose Fountain, is set in America the Beautiful Park in Colorado Springs and frames views of Pikes Peak. The four-story steel spiral sprays water from 366 jets as it rotates, and is a popular spot in the summer. The fountain was commissioned by the City of Colorado Springs and was installed in 2007.

Swarovski fountain (innsbruck, austria).

Austrian artist André Heller created this fantastical fountain, which forms the entrance to Swarovski Crystal Worlds. The plant-covered structure, known as the Giant, houses the subterranean Chamber of Wonder, featuring designs and experiences by artists such as Brian Eno and Yayoi Kusama. The fountain in the nearly 56-foot-tall head of the Giant spills into a large pool.

Stravinsky Fountain (Paris)

Sculptor Jean Tinguely and painter Niki de Saint Phalle created the spirited fountain on Paris’s Igor Stravinsky Square. The artistic duo took inspiration from the music of the 20th-century composer, creating 16 abstract and whimsical figures, many painted in vibrant colors, which correspond to compositions such as “The Firebird” and “Death.” The fountain, which opened in 1983, is located near the Centre Pompidou.

Banpo bridge (seoul, south korea).

The Banpo Bridge, which crosses the Han River, is home to the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain. The 3,740-foot fountain—the longest bridge fountain in the world, according to the  Guinness Book of World Records —includes 380 nozzles that spray recycled water into the river below. Ten thousand color-changing LED lights create a stunning rainbow effect at night.

The divers fountain (dubai, united arab emirates).

Fountains are often found in malls, but few quite as dramatic as this fountain at the Dubai Mall. Figures of human divers appear to soar through the air in front of a wall of cascading water. The four-story structure was designed by Singapore-based architecture firm DP Architects.

Crown fountain (chicago).

Located in Millenium Park in Chicago, the Crown Fountain is a public art piece by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. The interactive fountain consists of two 50-foot glass-block towers set in a black granite pool. LEDs screens showcase the faces of 1,000 Chicago residents and the water feature operates from mid-spring to mid-fall.

Tunnel of surprises (lima, peru).

Visitors to Parque de las Reversas in downtown Lima can walk through a 115-foot tunnel composed of arcs of water. The park’s Magic Water Circuit includes 13 fountains which are featured in music, water, and light shows on Tuesdays through Sundays. The park, which opened in 2007, holds the record for the largest fountain complex in the world.

The Monument aux Girondins (Bordeaux, France)

Located on the Place des Quinconces in Bordeaux, the fountain was designed between 1894 and 1901 by the architect Julien Guadet. Framed by two pools, adorned with seahorses, and topped by a 177-foot-high column, the dramatic structure was created in memory of the Girondin deputies who were victims of the French Revolution, ordered to be executed by Robespierre in October 1793. Appearing like a theatrical set, more than 34 symbolic sculptures are frozen in motion—part-horse and part-fish, seahorses leap at the foot of the 141-foot-high column. Located opposite the city’s Grand Théâtre, the fountain both commemorates the Girondins and celebrates the eventual victory of the French Republic.

The trevi fountain (rome, italy).

The largest and most famous fountain in Rome, the Trevi Fountain is a pinnacle of 18th-century Baroque style. Designed between 1732 and 1762 at the request of Pope Clement XII, the 85-foot-high fountain features sculptures of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, and other mythical figures. The fountain has appeared in a number of movies, perhaps most famously in the 1960 film  La Dolce Vita  when Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg take a midnight dip there. The fountain always attracts crowds, and many visitors continue a long tradition, throwing a coin, or several, into its basin. Legend has it that if you throw one coin, you will return to Rome; two coins, and you will find your love there; and three coins, you will marry in the city.

The fountain of the temple of the emerald buddha (bangkok, thailand).

Also known as Wat Phra Kaeo, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a major tourist attraction and a must-see temple within the Grand Palace at the heart of Thailand’s capital. The namesake of the temple is a statue of Buddha that is 26 inches tall and 19 inches wide, carved of jade or jasper (“emerald” refers to the statue’s color, not the material used to make it). The figure most likely dates from the 15 th  century though its exact origins are uncertain. In front of the temple, just outside the palace walls, a beautifully illuminated fountain provides a colorful, dancing spectacle at the entrance to the royal complex.

Montjuïc fountain (barcelona, spain).

Designed for the 1929 Universal Exhibition by the architect Carles Buïgas, the Art Deco fountain is an impossible-to-miss landmark in the Spanish city. Located in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, it was damaged during the Spanish Civil War and restored for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. The fountain offers a luminous and dancing spectacle at nightfall. Also known as the Magic Fountain, its giant pool has 4,760 spotlights illuminating the Palau Nacional and it contains some 3,620 jets of water that dance to the rhythm of a musical score.

Palm fountain (dubai, united arab emirates).

With an area of more than 14,000 square feet, the Palm Fountain on the Palm Jumeirah artificial archipelago in Dubai is the largest fountain in the world. The spectacle of the fountain’s choreographed light and sound show can be admired from the  Burj Khalifa , the world’s tallest building. As an iconic landmark of this capital of excess, it’s fitting that the Palm Fountain has more than 1,000 different water jet models, 6,600 lightbulbs, and 25 colored spotlights that bring the artificial lake to life. The fountain can project water up to almost 500 feet into the air. Surrounded by skyscrapers, the monumental fountain provides a dazzling show during both day and night.

Spray it again the world’s 9 quirkiest fountains.

From stunning art installations to challenging mythological creations, these astounding fountains take creativity and credulity to refreshingly new heights. Which is your favourite?

1: Crown Fountain, Chicago, USA

Part fountain, part art installation, the Crown Fountain in Chicago's Millennium Park features two glass brick towers covered in LED screens. The screens randomly transmit video of the faces of 1,000 ‘ordinary’ Chicagoans, their mouths strategically placed to become the source of a jet of water.

Designed by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa and built by Krueck and Sexton Architects, it cost $17 million and opened in July 2004. The ‘subjects’ were found by calling community groups around the city and asking for volunteers. They were then videotaped sitting in an adjustable dentist chair.

2: Water Boat Fountain, Valencia, Spain

A highlight of any early evening stroll along Playa de la Malvarrosa in Valencia, the Water Boat Fountain is a simple as it is beautiful. Jets of water, strategically flowing from various parts of the sculpture, give the illusion of the sail and body of a boat.  It is particularly beautiful at sunrise.

3: Swarovski Kristallwelten, Wattens, Austria

Striking, and somewhat jarringly out of place, the fountain guarding the entrance of the Swarovski Crystal Worlds (Swarovski Kristallwelten) museum in Wattens, Austria certainly makes an impact. Designed by Austrian architect André Heller to mark the 100th anniversary of the crystal company Swarovski, it is a giant, grass covered head, with large sparkling eyes and a fountain flowing from its mouth.

According to Heller, the giant settled in Wattens after a long journey, bringing with him the most precious treasures of the world. He sits guarding them, inside his “Wonders’ Rooms" –that is, the museum.

4: Osaka Fountain Clock, Japan

Tucked away in the South Gate Building of the new Osaka Station City complex, you’ll find one of the most mesmerising and deceptively practical fountains in the world – a rectangular wall fountain that displays the time.

The fountain displays a digital-style readout, amongst moving floral patterns and falling shapes, in the collapsing wall of water. A digitally controlled printer ejects water droplets in carefully controlled patterns which are illuminated by overhead lights. Take care though. The display is so captivating you may miss your train.

5: Banpo Bridge, Seoul, South Korea

Stunningly beautiful – and eco-friendly too - the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain on the Banpo Bridge in Seoul is the world's longest bridge fountain, with nearly 10,000 LED nozzles running along both sides of the 1,140m long bridge. Opened in September 2009, it shoots out 190 tons of water per minute.  

The brainchild of former mayor of Seoul, Oh Se-hoon, the bridge was intended to both beautify the city and showcase its eco credentials. The water is pumped directly from the river itself and is continuously recycled.

6: The Divers' Fountain, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Everything is bigger and better in Dubai and that applies to fountains too. The city is dotted with awe-inspiring fountains. But none are as compelling or as breathtaking as the Divers Fountain in   The Dubai Mall.

Dropping 24 metres, past all four levels of the indoor shopping centre, the fountain features fibreglass sculptures of divers, mid-dive. Opened in 2009, and designed by Singapore-based DPA Architects, the fountain is a tribute to the pearl divers who played such an important role in the city’s early history.

7: Tunnel of Surprises, Lima, Peru

The Túnel de las Sorpresas (Tunnel of Surprises) is but one fountain in Lima’s extraordinary Circuito Mágico del Agua (Magic Water Circuit). Opened in 2007 and set in a 19-acre park, the circuit features 13 illuminated fountains and has quickly became one of the city’s most popular attractions.

The Tunnel of Surprise, like many of the fountains in the complex, is interactive, and getting through it dry requires timing and determination. One mistimed step and you could end up drenched.

8: Fountain of Wealth, Singapore

Designed to be a symbol of wealth and life, the Fountain of Wealth in Singapore is also the world’s largest. Based on the Hindu Mandala, the giant bronze ring was designed to reflect   the equality and harmony of all races and religions in Singapore.

It is also an integral part of the overall design of the Suntec City complex within which is sits. The five towers surrounding it represent the fingers and thumb of a left hand emerging from the ground. The fountain forms the palm.

9: Stravinsky Fountain, Paris, France

The Stravinsky Fountain is a whimsical public fountain next to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It is decorated with sixteen works of sculpture, each inspired by Stravinsky’s most famous work, The Rites of Spring .

Each ‘piece’ moves and and sprays water, and was created by sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle. Surreal, colourful and playful, the fountains is popular with Parisians looking to both cool down and brighten up their day.

Amazing Fountain Sprays Water to Look Like a Boat

The simple metal frame sprays water, creating the sail and hull of the boat. The fountain is set near Playa de la Malvarrosa and appears to be headed out to sea.

At first, the image above looks like a boat, one that is caught in a soaking surge of water, but it is in fact a cleverly designed fountain sprinkling water out of its man-made pores. Located at Playa de la Malvarrosa in Valencia, Spain and known simply as Water Boat Fountain (or Fuente del Barco de Agua in Spanish) by visitors and locals alike, the sculptural fountain creates the illusion of both the hull and the sail of a boat with liquid jets. One is left baffled by its simple design mimicking the appearance of a sailboat with nothing more than a few rods spraying fine streams of water.

A variety of similar designs of the structure are said to be situated around the world, including one in Portugal and one in Israel, though this one in Spain appears to gain the most attention from foreign visitors. The brilliant attraction invites visitors to take in its surreal appearance, which adds a lively playfulness to the environment. If you don’t have the chance to see it in person just yet, you can actually get a wonderful 360 view of the structure on Google Maps.

The fountain is located in the center of the small round basin, so it seems that the boat is literally floating on the water. The fountain is located on the picturesque square, not far from the popular Playa de Malvarosa beach, and is therefore very popular among tourists and holidaymakers. In the evening, the couples gather at the wells to graze on the sparkling waters of the sunset.

This place is also called for by the photographers, who choose the best position for several days to capture the mysterious boat, whose sail is ‘burning’ in the sun. In the night the fountain is adorned with the impressive illumination, so you can visit the sights at nightfall. It must be noted that there are the similar boat fountains also in some other countries, namely in Portugal and Israel. Nevertheless the fountain in Valencia is the most famous and most visited. Its main particularity is the maximum simplicity of construction.

Water depth.

Different size pond pump fountain motors require different depths of water to function properly. If your water is deeper than 28" you can use any size fountain pump in our store.

The box arrived absolutely destroyed, but the fountain didn’t have any damage. Some reviews complained that it’s too light after you put five gallons of water in it, it’s no longer light. Others complained that the LEDs don’t have their own onoff switch so they have to run even during the day the lights and pump are on separate plugs, sooooo... don’t plug the light in if you don’t want them on. Also, ironically it’s the loudest on the lowest setting cause that’s when the water hits the center of the bowls and not the pads on the side (made to muffle the sound). You can use a light dish soap or a 50/50 water/vinegar solution to clean our fountains. Please never use harsh chemicals like bleach when cleaning a pet fountain.

Is it safe to put the fountain in the dishwasher?

Only the stainless steel lid for the Catit Stainless Steel Flower Fountain, Pixi Smart Fountain, and Pixi Stainless Steel Fountain are dishwasher safe. The remaining parts of our fountains and the Catit Stainless Steel (Non Flower) Fountain are unfortunately not dishwasher safe.

How frequently should I refresh the water in the fountain?

We recommend refilling the water as needed and refreshing the water weekly. This can be done at the same time as the fountain cleaning.

How frequently should I change filter?

We recommend replacing the filter once a month.

We also recommend rinsing the filter weekly (not replacing it) to remove any hair or debris.

Why is there insufficient water flow in my fountain?

If there is debris or slime in the well area, the magnetic impeller cannot make a connection to the motor unit and will prevent it from spinning. If you have not done so, please remove the impeller from the motor and rinse it off. Clean out inside the motor with a small brush or Q-Tip, then rinse out the motor unit as well. Place the impeller back in the motor and plug it in briefly to ensure the impeller is spinning before re-assembling the unit.

Thrice (formed in 1998) is an American post-hardcore rock band, known for their crunchy distorted guitars, complex time signatures and soaring lead guitar solos, hailing from Irvine, California, U.S.

Prior to forming Thrice vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue and guitarist Teppei Teranishi had played in the rock group Chapter 11 together. Alongside bassist Eddie Breckridge and drummer Riley Breckridge, who knew Dustin and Teppei from school and the local skate park, began practicing together and played their first gig in 1998. The name Thrice was initially considered to be a temporary moniker however the group soon developed a following in the local area and became associated with the name. In 1999 Thrice released their debut EP entitled “First Impressions”, which was limited to 1,000 copies, followed by the full-length “Identity Crisis” in April 2000. Released on Greenfly Records, the album earned the group a significant national buzz, and a percentage of the album’s proceeds were donated to a local children’s charity.

Thrice subsequently signed with Hopeless/Sub City’s who reissued the band’s debut “Identity Crisis” and sent Thrice on tour alongside Samiam. In 2002 the band’s sophomore “The Illusion of Safety” was released to favourable reviews and the group embarked on an extensive national tour in support of Further Seems Forever and Face to Face. Once again a portion of the album’s proceeds were donated to charity, with the label matching whatever the band raised. Due to the success of the album and tour, Thrice caught to attention of major label Island Records, who signed the band and agreed to match any charitable donations.

The band’s major-label debut “The Artist in the Ambulance” arrived in 2003 and charted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. Led by the tracks “All That’s Left” and “Stare At The Sun” the album found favour across the musical press and Thrice subsequently began playing larger venues, including dates with Thursday and Cohered and Cambria. The full-length “Vheissu” was issued in October 2005 with proceeds going to the Dave Eggers’ charity 826 Valencia and in turn the cover art was designed by Eggers. The album features a much richer and textured instrumentation than its predecessors and was once again supported by an extensive touring schedule including headlining the 2006 Taste of Chaos tour. The EP “Red Sky” followed in early 2006 and the elaborate four-disc concept album “The Alchemy Index” in 2007. The live albums “The MySpace Transmissions” and “Live at the House of Blues” appeared in 2009, succeeded by the studio album “Beggars” in 2009 and “Major/Minor” in 2011.

Thrice was great, I arrived on time pretty much but I had to wait in line for about 15-20 minutes because I had will call tickets which made miss most of Gates (the opening band) set but after that the line to get into the venue was pretty quick once inside I looked around the design of the venue, PlayStation Theater this is probably the third redesign of this venue when I first starting coming there it was called Nokia Theater then Best Buy Theater and now PlayStation Theater, this current incarnation of the venue is probably my favorite I enjoyed playing some the PS4 demos available mainly the game "Rocket League". After playing a game of Rocket League I went to look for a seat upper balcony seating which is something I've always appreciated about this venue the only other venue with similar seating is Gramercy Theatre but theirs aren't as comfortable. But it's nice to have somewhere to sit unlike many GA venues where you just have stand much of your duration there unless you find somewhere to sit that isn't the floor or blocked off by VIP Section, so that's always nice about this venue. I then sat down to see La Dispute which is a band I haven't seen in years and been meaning to because they left a great first impression when I first saw them opening up for Alexisonfire some years back and seeing them again was great, they seemed more mature and on point with their sound. I sat through their performance in the balcony with good seating with direct line to the stage, but also saw them on the Sony Ultra HD (assuming maybe even 4k monitor screens) hanging above the GA pit which gave a good up close view of the stage and band from different angles that you probably couldn't even get if you where front row, so that was a nice bonus. Once they finished I waited sitting down for maybe ten minute before getting to make way to the GA pit area but before that I made sure to stop the bathroom to relieve myself knowing I'll be standing for an 1 hour plus soon and got drink of water from the fountain nearby, which is another nice touch in this venue because so many places just force to pay for the overpriced water, so it was nice to be able to drink water and the pay some exuberant amount for it. After that I made my way to GA pit area which already getting pretty crowded being a sold out show and all. Thrice started playing few minutes before 9:30, they started with song "Hurricane" from their new album (To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere) and then played "Silhouette" from their second album (The Illusion of Safety) which set a good tone for the rest their setlist and night. The song selection fluctuated between songs from the new album (which I liked) and songs from from their previous 3 albums. My only nitpick would be that they didn't play more early material, particularly songs off "The Artist In The Ambulance" which they played two songs of that album. But all and all it was probably the best setlist they could've gone with to compliant the songs off the new album, so I can't really fault them for it. I will definitely love to see them again and hopefully they'll have a more diverse setlist next time around.

Thrice was one of the staples of my early to late twenties who I loved listening to between other bands like AFI and Coheed and Cambria. They bring that good hard modern American rock sound to the table that the punk and alternative bands of the time always skirted around but couldn't quite seem to grasp.

I love listening to their music to have someone else express the anger that I feel inside. It brings me to a sense of elation. Their music is matter of taste to most I'm sure, but I believe if anyone takes the time to listen to the lyrics and the intent of the music itself, they may actually appreciate it, even if they don't adore it.

At the House of Blues a couple of years back I had the chance to see Thrice play in a set with a couple other bands of that same genre. The House of Blues has a nice, intimate setting where all seats are good seats, and just some are a little better. I wasn't right at the front but I could see everything, and the energy Thrice brought was both intense and moving. They could bring the audience to their feet screaming, and put them back to sitting and silent. It was an event to behold.

This is review is actually for the entire show. Drug Church opened up with a bang! Amazing sound mastering and an incredible stage presence gave this show an honest start and really let the crowd know what they were in for for the rest of the show. mewithoutYou (the band I was there to see) followed up with a set that had the building lose their minds. I was in the rail and felt a little uncomfortable with the amount of pushing that was going on, but on looking back I didn’t just see a pit, I saw people en masse singing and dancing with this uniform glow that signified we were all there to see our favorite band who is retiring at the end of this year. It was a beautiful experience. I don’t know enough of Thrice to give an opinion on their song choices or fan reaction to the songs sang. I can say that the sound was insanely close to what I have heard them sound like on streaming services. I am very happy I went to this show and I truly hope I get the opportunity to see mewithoutYou while they tour Brothers, Sisters and there official farewell tour.

Californian rockers Thrice deceptively have four members who all work together to make a traditional sounding rock that goes over particularly well with their loyal fanbase. They have recorded and released eight studio albums in a relatively short amount of time so they have extra work to carefully hand select music for the setlist. From the reaction of the fans they have made wise choices to include a rambunctious version of early single 'Stare At The Sun' as they jump as one with arms raised high.

Tonight they showcase the best material from latest albums 'Beggars' and 'Major/Minor' which goes down well with the audience, something of a cult following in the UK. The band's sheer dedication to the global fans pays off during an encore of early tracks 'Phoenix' and 'The Earth Will Shake' as the audience sing back in force. The group exits the stage feeling very secure in the knowledge that although they may not have sold countless albums in the UK, they have a solid and dedicated following.

I've been a huge fan of Thrice since hearing Illusion Of Safety in 2002. Else than festivals, I've attended every one of their shows in NYC/NJ, and this show was special for a few reasons. Firstly, obviously, it's their first tour since their hiatus, and man are they back to continue kicking serious ass! The crowd was great, no drunk idiots, positive energy, a great security crew, all awesome stuff. It was also special because they played a very unique set list; more songs from Vheissu than TBEITBN, which I enjoyed. I hoped for more from the new album, they played four songs from it, but the set list was awesome. Everyone sounded great, the only sound issue was the always-present high pitch reverb due to the design/building materials of the venue. Riley's drums compensated for that for sure though! So fucking excited to one of my two favorite bands [number one being Tool] back in action and better than ever! Thrice will always exceed expectations, record and show alike.

Saw Thrice + La Dispute last night at the PlayStation Theatre in NYC and had a blast - I wish La Dispute were allowed a longer set, but they did the best with what they had. Thrice, as the headliner, definitely had more pull with the crowd - people comically calling for "Deadbolt" to which they never played.

Just like the time before when I last saw Thrice, everyone in the crowd was suuuper into them, knew damn-near every word to the whole set, and were very very passionate about singing along and pushing around through the night.

Thrice's light show was really cool, with backlighting making them look like the ultimate rockstar silhouettes for most of their set, too!

Thrice put on a great show! A good amount of great songs from the new album "TBEITBN" were played. As always the moshpit was entertaining especially with older songs from albums like "Vheissu" and "Artist in the Ambulance". Dustin's voice was extremely sore and bothering him for the whole night due to excessive touring which is why the set was cut a bit short. The band was even going to cut out the encore that was scheduled to be 3 songs according to previous setlists, but Thrice loves their fans so they came out to play DEADBOLT!!! The fans were extremely appreciative of the great last show of 2016 for Thrice.

Thrice were superb, knocked out all the favorites in their own understated way. Refused seemed to take longer to warm up but once they were going they were at their crazy crowd surfing best.

It’s a shame the venue was changed as it appeared that the empire was dangerously over-filled. When the two main bands were on you could not move, it was almost impossible to climb the stairs to the toilets and main bar and security seemed to be doing little about it when Refused were playing.

The sound of venue was amazing, pretty decent, you could hear all the instruments very clear.

The illumination was awesome too.

The setlist was the same on the three shows at Brazil (as far as I know).

As this was the first time of the band in Brazil (and I hope they come back [I know, it's been a joke: come to Brazil] haha), it was epic.

I would change one or two songs but it was intense from start to finish, the crowd singing along almost every song from start to finish.

The show was AMAZING!

Got there quarter 'till they headlined, at 9:45 and since it was a sold out show, had to stand all the way in the back but two of my buds and myself, squiggled our way to the front!

We were 4 bodies from the stage and all hell broke loose with their classic songs and the people went crazy!!

Super sore this mornings a somebody stepped on my left ankle so no running for me until 2 weeks but I lobed the show and will becoming go see them in October!

Thrice has announced 20th anniversary European and UK tour for T he Artist In The Ambulance . The band will be joined by Town Portal in Europe and Palm Reader in the UK for the 2024 run, which kicks off in Madrid and will wrap up in London on February 26.

“ The Artist In The Ambulance has played such a huge part in the history of the band,” says Dustin Kensrue. “These songs have stood the test of time better than we could have known when we wrote them. But they’ve also subtly shifted and grown with us as we’ve played them at shows over the last 20 years, which is why it was so much fun to revisit them in the studio, and also why we are so excited to play the whole record live, especially for the first time in its entirety.”

From the moment Thrice emerged, the band threw wrenches in traditional genre tropes. Hardcore guitars? Meet emo vocals. Post-punk rhythms? Say hello to metal riffs. The group’s first two albums, 2000’s  Identity Crisis  and 2002’s  The Illusion of Safety , introduced them to the tight-knit hardcore community, but also attracted math rock devotees and Warped Tour fans ready to belt out singer Dustin Kensrue’s heart-on-sleeve lyrics. So when the band made the jump to Island – a major label – it was unclear what would happen. Would Thrice maintain their sound? Or would the edges be inevitably sanded down in pursuit of something more immediately palatable?

Fans shouldn’t have worried. 2003’s breakthrough,  The Artist in the Ambulance , showcased the band essentially doing more of what worked so well previously. Indeed, the dizzying, interplaying guitar lines of the title track give hints of metal undertones, while the melodic line and backing vocals are pure emo. “Paper Tigers” is undeniable hardcore metal, built around the militaristic pummel of double bass drum kicks and pained screams from Kensrue. But beneath this surface, the band can’t help but yank the tablecloth with riffs built on unexpected time signatures that would make Robert Fripp proud.

Thrice to Celebrate The Artist in the Ambulance with 20th Anniversary Tour

The post-hardcore band has also released a re-recording of the 2003 LP featuring several notable guest musicians

Thrice ’s seminal third album, The Artist in the Ambulance , turns 20 this year. In celebration, the post-hardcore band is hitting the road on a North American anniversary tour that will see them performing the LP from front to back, with support from Holy Fawn.

The outing kicks off May 18th in San Diego and runs through a June 23rd show in Anaheim, California. A Live Nation pre-sale begins Thursday (February 2nd) at noon local time using the code CHORUS via Ticketmaster , with general tickets available beginning Friday. Fans can also pick up tickets via StubHub .

In addition to the touring news, Thrice have just released a re-recording of The Artist in the Ambulance featuring a bevy of special guests, including Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra, Ryan Osterman of Holy Fawn, Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music, Sam Carter of Architects, Mike Minnick of Curl Up and Die, and Brian McTernan, who produced the original record.

Lead singer Dustin Kensrue stated, “The question has to be asked: Why would we re-record a 20 year old album, let alone one that is widely beloved and arguably our most well-known. I think the core of the answer is that it simply sounded fun and we were curious.”

He added, “We know that playing the revisionist is a dangerous game, so we were always a little uneasy about trying to go back and mess with something that people loved, people who had none of the hangups about the record that we did. But, since we decided to do this anyway, we tried to let that wariness guide us in how we approached the record, and in the end we decided to make very minimal structural changes.”

The Artist in the Ambulance  served as Thrice’s breakthrough album, hitting No. 16 on the Billboard 200 chart, and impacting alt-rock radio with the singles “All That’s Left” and “Stare at the Sun.”

Released in 2003, The Artist in the Ambulance featured several iconic hits, such as “All That’s Left,” “ Under a Killing Moon,” and “Stare at the Sun.” Although the band was classified as emo or post-hardcore, the music was ahead of its time, deriving influences from thrash and math-metal.

Upon its release, The Artist in the Ambulance peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 and dominated the Top Internet Albums chart. In the U.K., the album reached number 9 on the Rock and Metal Albums chart. Meanwhile, “All That’s Left” and “Stare at the Sun” peaked at numbers 24 and 30 on the Alternative Airplay chart. The album was well received by fans and critics, with some writers calling it “their best effort to date” and complimenting the band for “ticking all the right boxes of energy and noise.” Furthermore, the album has been featured in several “best of” lists, including NME’s "20 Emo Albums that Have Resolutely Stood the Test of Time" and Rock Sound’s “Modern Classics.”

THRICE Announces New Single, 'Open Your Eyes And Dream'

California rock band THRICE will release a new single, "Open Your Eyes And Dream" , on September 20 via Epitaph .

THRICE singer Dustin Kensrue states about the track: "It's so very easy to believe that big systemic issues can't change because we've lived with them our whole lives. But if you look back and zoom out a bit, it's easy to see that this feeling of permeance and inevitability is just an illusion. Most things seem impossible until they happen. This song is about opening our eyes to that reality, and being willing to dream something better into existence."

The new single comes in after the September 2021 release of THRICE 's latest album, "Horizons/East" . The LP conveys a palpable sense of danger, determination, and possibility and exemplifies art as a work of recognition — the human task of perceiving oneself amid details, disasters, and blessings as a relentlessly relational phenomenon among others. In this, "Horizons/East" is the rare rock album on which interrelatedness is a theme, painting an adventurous and lush landscape mixed by Scott Evans that the band produced and recorded at their own New Grass Studio .

Earlier this year, THRICE drummer Riley Breckenridge spoke to The Pitch about how he has experienced growth as a musician, especially during the pandemic when he wasn't able to perform live. He said: "Not having shows to play, we did make a record during that time. It gives me a lot of time at home to go into the studio and really work on my playing and try to expand the scope of what I’m able to do and unlearn some bad habits that I developed early on. So yeah, definitely. Especially over the past two years or so, I feel like I've made a lot of positive strides.

"The best thing about music and playing an instrument is there's no, like, final boss in playing an instrument. You don't beat the game. You can always get better, you can always learn more, and you can always explore new genres. It's a neverending quest to get better. So, I don't think it's ever gonna get to a point where I'm, like, 'Okay, yeah, I figured it out. I'm technically good now.'"

When asked what some of those bad habits are that he mentioned, Riley said: "I hold a lot of tension while I play. I grew up as an athlete and saw drumming as a way to get out some of that aggression that you would get out during a game. So, when I started playing drums — instead of playing the drums, I was, like, attacking them — for lack of a better term. And it’s not a really sustainable way to do anything, especially playing instruments. So I've had to try to recalibrate the way I play and be less of a gorilla smashing on tubs and try to have a little bit more finesse — a relationship that's more symbiotic instead of just punishing."

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.
