Local legend has it that the stingrays began gathering in the area decades ago when fisherman would return from an excursion and go behind a reef into the sound and clean their fish in the calm water of the shallows and sand bar area. The fish guts were simply thrown overboard and the stingrays eventually congregated to feast on the discarded guts. Soon the stingrays began to associate the sound of a boat engine with a free meal.

The Stingray City Catamaran shore excursion is legendary within the local and stay-over tourism sailing vessel knowledge.

This beautiful 50ft catamaran offers spacious surroundings. With a fully equipped galley, easy water entrance for snorkeling, comfort, and more!

Offering two 4-hour Stingray City Sandbar Excursions per day, this fantastic snorkeling trip will take you to World Famous Stingray City Sandbar, Coral Gardens, and the Cayman Barrier Reef for the best snorkeling experience of your lifetime.

The excursion offers three full snorkeling stops, an unsurpassed sailing experience, and snorkeling gear!

The meeting for the excursion is a short 2-minute walk from your Cruise Ship arrival area. The ease and tour timing could not be better! (Tour times and meeting times may vary to comply with ships’ arrival times. Please ensure to check your reservation for issued excursion times)

This fantastic half-day charter is four hours long, offering 3 snorkeling stops.

The initial destination is the world-famous Stingray City Sandbar. The sandbar offers shallow waters, approximately 3ft in-depth, and our friendly and playful Southern Stingrays.

You can interact with these beautiful creatures in their habitat while walking on pure, soft tropical sand.   You will pet, feed, and interact with our Stingrays to your heart’s content.

The Catamaran will take you snorkeling in the beautiful Cayman waters and visiting our beautiful Barrier Reef following the Stingray interaction.   The Coral Reef formation offers vibrant Coral, Sponges, a multitude of Tropical Fish of all species, Eels, and the occasional turtle.

A friendly taxi driver went out of his way to call Amvivo for us, and they advised they’d come to the airport forthwith. We took a roughly 30 minute delay. However once they showed up it was great. Very friendly service, and caybrews were generously provided. I should note that I booked the shared airport transfer on their site around noon on the day before we arrived. So that probably explains how our booking initially went undetected. Return trip was very smooth, with shuttle bus showing up at the hotel at its appointed time. This is really a big point of the value proposition, as we like knowing getting back to the airport will be seamless and without having to worry about availability of taxis. Again great friendly service. This was our second time using amvivo. The first time was perfect, this time was a tad less so. It was just me and my wife and our new friend David. He treated us like family and not just a couple on a tour. We were shown everything that was promised and had best time we've had on an excursion in a long, long time. He was very personable and professional. His knowledge of the island and his personality made this a one-of-a-kind experience, and I would be surprised if anyone on the island that day had as good a time as my wife and me. I forgot the English-speaking guide's name but he provided a good tour. We were supposed to meet the tour guide at 8:40 but were able to contact them via phone and were informed we would leave by 9 am. Temperatures were 87 with high humidity. The bus was supposed to have 20 passengers, but we were the only two. The others were from the ship, but we do not know if they canceled without telling the tour company. Our guide showed us around the island with stops at the Governor's House, Tortoga Rum factory, dolphin swim, Hell, and 7-mile beach where we spent one hour. There were bars and eateries at the resorts at Seven Mile Beach. Temperature was about 87 degrees. We've been to Hell and back here on Grand Cayman Island. We returned to the ship by 1:30. As we headed toward the ship, the sky opened with buckets. Within an hour, the sun cleared up and it was a beautiful day. Read more Written February 2, 2024

We took this excursion while on a cruise and our docking time was later than the scheduled start of the cruise. Our tour operator Leo waited for us, worked with us and helped us locate everyone who had booked and insured we got to view the best parts of the tour even though we started late. We were back in time for the ferry back to our ship, had some time to spare shopping and had learned so much about Grand Cayman Island from Leo.  Our trips are done on the sailing catamaran the Far Tortuga. The Far Tortuga is forty-three feet long and twenty feet wide.  With trips with a maximum of twenty people, there is always lots of room aboard. Instead of sitting on a bench rubbing shoulders with the person next to you, we give you space to lay out in the sun to work on your tan. Under power or under sail, it is always a smooth ride on the Far-Tortuga. 

How About a Private Charter?

 A private charter allows you to make to most of your time on the water. You can customize your tour to suit your group's needs. Request an early departure to beat the crowds, or a later departure to enjoy a peaceful afternoon or sunset. Whatever your needs, a private charter allows you to achieve them. Able to accommodate up to 25 guests

Be a Part of our Group Tour

  We are back in action and pleased to be offering our full range of services once again. We have reduced the number of guests on our group tours to further improve our ability to offer our guests a more personalized and memorable experience. Our Group tours typically spend three hours on the water and include two stops. One stop is to play with our friendly stingrays at the SandBar and another stop at the reef for snorkeling. We provide food to feed the stingrays and Masks for snorkeling.

 Catering to Both Guests arriving by Cruise ship and those staying on the island.  

$85 Per person. Limit of 20 passengers per trip

Daily Schedule

Our schedule varies from day to day based on the time of year and the schedule of the ships that are in port. We typically offer a morning and afternoon trip and will modify the timing of these to either accommodate guests from the ships or to avoid the ship crowds to create a better experience for our on-island guests. Let us know when you are available and we will match you up with the tour that best suits your needs.

We have built our reputation around the idea of staying in balance with nature. Many of the bigger operators at Stingray city depend on catching stingrays to show one to their guests. We find that if you treat them nicely and just sit back, they will come to you. This often results in us having more rays than the competition and other operators coming to our boat to kidnap rays when they can not find any for themselves.
