Rolex Yacht-Master 126622

Before we get to my Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622 review, we need some background. In 1992 Rolex introduced a watch that shared the silhouette of their beloved Submariner but in solid 18k yellow gold, embossed YG bezel insert soldered to the bezel, funky white dial, and the unusual name “Yacht-Master” written where “Submariner” would normally live. People then and now still wonder.. “Why?”.

Rumor has it Rolex wanted to drastically update the Submariner but were scared that the changes were too extreme. The Submariner was essentially their poster child and arguably their most iconic watch. Fearing backlash, they created a whole new line. Rolex rarely creates completely new watches, the last time they made a new watch before the Rolex Yacht-Master was in 1964 when the Daytona was introduced. Luckily it paid off as the Yacht-Master was pretty well received!

Even though the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 at first glance looks very similar to the Submariner it’s a totally different wearing experience. The case shape is completely different from the Sub. Its case profile is composed of compound curves with the lugs swooping downwards very similar to a Daytona, the case is also fully polished. My particular Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622 being Roleisum (Rolex’s term for the combination of Platinum and Steel which was first introduced in 1999 with the ref. 16622), in combination with the blue sunburst dial and red accents, gives it such a unique aesthetic it sets it apart in Rolex’s catalog. Rolex I think perfected their blue dials, it’s absolutely gorgeous! Pictures do not do it justice whatsoever. In person, it appears much darker, almost black however in direct light that’s when the striking blue hue pops. The date function is also very convenient!

Rolex Yacht-Master

What is it like to wear a Rolex Yacht-Master? I would describe it as the most comfortable and stressful watch I have ever worn and owned. What most people don’t realize is that it’s a thin watch and I mean THIN. At 11.5mm it’s just as thin or even thinner than a 34mm 114200 Air-King! Like what? The case hugs your wrist amazingly while the oyster bracelet seems to caress you. It makes you want to wear it every single day, I mean how could you not? Thin, sporty, beautiful, comfortable and low key a strap monster. Until you see a scratch or nick on the solid Platinum bezel insert, call up Rolex Service Center to see how much it would be to replace it and they slap you in the face with a $2500 (before taxes) quote for JUST the bezel/bezel insert assembly (they’re soldered together remember?). Then you think “Okay, okay which Seiko ’s do I sell to cover the cost of a freaking bezel”. Did I mention the case is fully polished?

Has this ever happened to me? No, because I’m extremely OCD, however I was curious and called RSC, I also used to own the 16622 and was trained to wear long sleeves only, only wear it sparingly, cover my wrist when walking through doorways, never let it touch denim (yes, denim will scratch it apparently), and for all I know never sneeze near it or even look at it too long because for all I know that could probably scratch it too. To top it all off, of COURSE the bracelet and clasp has Polished Center Links! While I am exaggerating the fragility of the Rolex Yacht-Master, the stress of potentially scuffing it is real.

Rolex Yacht-Master

The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622 is arguably one of my favorite watches ever made. I never thought I’d ever get to own one. It’s beautiful, ridiculously comfortable, relatively uncommon, however so stressful to wear. I have owned it for almost exactly one year and I personally try to enjoy every second I wear it; I even strap changed it with zero scuffs! I have and I do but my OCD and extreme caution lends itself to be a difficult one to fully appreciate without worry. I’ve debated if this watch was right for me all the time. However, I would recommend this watch to anyone minutely interested. I have no regrets having owned two of them like an insane person, but who in the watch collecting world isn’t insane?

Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622

  • Very comfortable to wear.
  • Beautiful aesthetics.
  • Has many color ways.
  • Stressful to wear.
  • Scratches relatively easily.
  • Difficult to even buy.

Which Would You Choose? The Rolex Yacht-Master Everose 37mm vs 40mm

yacht master 40 weight

The Yacht-Master has been an unashamedly high-end variation on the Submariner theme ever since it launched back in 1992. Only available in the most precious of precious metals, including being the watch to introduce Rolex’s own steel and platinum alloy Rolesium to the world, it has always been aimed squarely at the luxuriously active lifestyle market.

So the release of the two Everose gold, black dial versions in 2015 raised some luxuriously active eyebrows. With nothing quite like it emerging from the Rolex lair before, the 40mm ref. 116655 and its smaller brother, the 37mm ref. 268655 played host to several pioneering features.

Everose Gold Yachtmaster

They became the first Yacht-Masters to sport matt black dials, a more restrained but still unmistakably masculine element which is echoed across onto the sandblasted bezels; again, the only time Cerachrom has been used in the series.

Housing two different calibers, the Cal. 3135 inside the 40mm version has been a staple of Rolex watches for nearly 30 years, but the 2236 that powers the 37mm is their first movement to contain a silicon composite, or Syloxi, hairspring. Found originally in the ladies Datejust Pearlmaster range, the smaller Yacht-Master became the first men’s watch with the movement.

But it’s the bracelet, the sophisticated black Oysterflex band , which marked the biggest departure from the norm. What could well be mistaken for a simple rubber strap actually keeps completely true to Rolex’s prevailing theory that anything worth engineering is worth over-engineering.

Inside is a thin titanium nickel alloy blade, overmoulded with a hypoallergenic elastomer. The result is a strap as durable as a metal bracelet and supple enough to conform to the natural shape of your wrist. Two longitudinal ridges underneath play the twin roles of cushioning the watch, preventing it from shifting around as you wear it, while also allowing fresh air to circulate between the strap and your skin to provide more comfort on warm days.

Everose Gold Yachtmaster

Secured with the same rock solid Oysterlock clasp you’d find on the brand’s metal bracelets, Rolex’s first foray into rubber straps is a typically striking one.

Overall, the dramatically different Yacht-Master duo has proved extremely popular. The unorthodox combination of Everose and black gives the watch an aura of coolness it hasn’t had before and has also made its way onto the latest generation of the watch world’s current hottest player, the Cosmograph Daytona.

In fact, there’s just one debating point that remains amongst the brand faithful. The Yacht-Master is the only sports watch in the range to be offered in a choice of sizes.

Let’s take a look at what that distinction means.

37mm versus 40mm

First off, let’s get the financials out of the way. There is understandably a price difference between the two, but it’s hardly what you’d call a gulf and won’t be a factor for the Yacht-Master’s target audience. Those with enough buying power to spend $22,000 on a watch are unlikely to suddenly balk at $25,000.

So the choice comes down to one of aesthetics. On its launch in 1992, the Yacht-Master was actually available in three different sizes—a 29mm ladies version, a mid-size 35mm and the full-scale 40mm. Today, there is no official ladies size, but the new 37mm watch is listed under both the men’s and women’s section on the Rolex website.

The main reason is obviously the current trend for women wearing larger watches, but another factor could be the use of Everose gold. The pinkish quality of the metal sees it blend in slightly with skin tones, making the watch appear smaller than it actually is.

However, out of the Yacht-Master range, the black dial and bezel variants are definitely the least showy, and the 37mm case is also a popular choice for men content to wear a very discreet watch; one that doesn’t need to shout, fits more comfortably under a shirt sleeve and benefits from a lighter overall weight.

Everose Yacht-Master Gold

As for the 40mm watch, what would have been considered exceptionally large a few decades ago, is now very much an average. With that Everose effect of wearing smaller than the actual size, even men with slender wrists who usually opt for more modest pieces have been deciding to wear the bigger of the two models.

For an added bonus, with the contemporary thinking of bigger equals better, 40mm Yacht-Masters are enjoying a healthier resale value on the pre-owned market, if you decide you want to sell it on at some point down the road.

Conclusion on the Everose Yacht-Master

So, 37mm or 40mm? There is, of course, no right or wrong answer. The only choice is which size is better for you.

Everose Yacht-Master

Whichever you choose, what you’ll come away with is a very interesting chapter in Rolex’s long running story. The Swiss watchmaking colossus has a history of quietly releasing radically altered variants on some of their most timeless designs. The 116655 and 268655 appeared with very little fanfare and have gone on to become real favorites among the brand’s devotees.

Whether they will go on to become all-time classics, it’s too soon to call. But with just enough subtle nods to Rolex’s illustrious past, such as picking the Yacht-Master name out in red, harking back to the Double Red Sea-Dwellers of the sixties, and combining them with a host of never-before-seen features, I wouldn’t bet against it.

Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Watch Hands-On

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-3

With the introduction of a chocolate dial and Everose Rolesor case on an Oyster bracelet, the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 adds another option to the line after last year’s model. A year ago at Baselworld 2015, the Rolex Yacht-Master arrived with a brand new Oysterflex strap, 40mm case, and caliber 3135 movement. It also came in an 18kt Everose (Rolex’s pink gold alloy) case and is now joined by this steel and gold Rolex Yacht-Master 40 model. There will also be a new all-steel model which we should have a look at for you in the coming days.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-5

Many people, including myself, honestly, aren’t experts on the Rolex Yacht-Master line, so I wanted to explain that this watch is simply a new color scheme in the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 line , and not a new piece altogether. There are several two-tone Rolex Yacht-Master 40 watches, but since this is the first new one since last year’s model, I think it’s more interesting to talk about this watch and what it means for the line moving forward. So yes, there are other Rolex Yacht-Master 40 watches already out there, but for all their merits they’re not providing the novelty of a new chocolate dial.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-6

Offering a distinctly softer look than the matte-black dial and bezel of its older sibling, there is a case to be made that this Rolex Yacht-Master 40 watch might have some success as a full-sized Rolex diver that appeals to women as well as men.  The Oyster bracelet in place of the sporty rubber (what Rolex would insist you call “Elastomer”) strap would likely help make that sell, also. That being said, this is certainly a unisex watch, even though I much prefer the black to the Everose look.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-7

The Rolex Yacht-Master 40’s bidirectional rotating bezel has polished raised numerals and graduations that stand out against the matt, sand-blasted surface of the 18kt Everose gold bezel. This softens the look of the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 watch by having two warm tones of Everose gold. On the black dial version with a matt, sand-blasted black ceramic bezel, the polished, raised numerals and graduations maintain a brooding look. Here, it’s softer, brighter, and way less masculine.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-4

Ditto with the dial, where the chocolate color gets that great sun-ray finish. Instead of a matt-black dial with a relationship to light like that of a Transylvanian count, the new model of the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 welcomes it. The hands and hour markers are unchanged, with 18kt Everose gold and luminescent Chromalight appliqués. Oh, and the cyclops over the date window remains. The Rolex Yacht-Master 40’s Everose Rolesor (that’s 904L steel and 18k Everose gold) Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock folding safety clasp looks great and is timeless. The Oysterflex is certainly not for everyone, especially when you consider the fact that you are kind of stuck with whichever one of six size options you choose.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-1

If you haven’t heard about it yet, Rolex is has replaced COSC certifications for their movements with a new in-house Rolex Superlative Chronometer certification ( which you can read about here ) that ensures accuracy within -2/+2 seconds per day. The new Rolex Yacht-Master 40 has the same caliber 3135 movement as last year’s model, and it has the new “Green Seal” approving it as Rolex Superlative Chronometer-certified.

While I loved the red font indicating the watch’s name on the black-dial version, I’m not sure it works as well here. It looks a little out of place, and I can only hope Rolex at least considers some other options. Then again, the first Rolex watch on a strap followed up by a standard Oyster bracelet model that also removed the bold red font from the dial would really look like Rolex having too much fun with their fans and enthusiasts.

Rolex-Yachtmaster-116621-2

Also announced at Baselworld this year is the 39.5mm gold-cased  Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer “Chocolate” watch , which Omega has interestingly decided to market as a ladies’ watch. Personally, I am not the world’s biggest fan of the chocolate dial, but I know several people, both men and women, who I can say would love to wear it any day. It will also be interesting to see how the upcoming steel model is priced, but maybe we’ll see a lot more Rolex Yacht-Master watches out in the wild when you cut almost half from the price of the gold-case black dial model. Price on this Rolex Yacht-Master 40 watch reference 116621 is 13,400 CHF . rolex.com

Introducing The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 With Multi-Color Gem-Set Bezel

yacht master 40 weight

The Yacht-Master has been a consistent part of the Oyster Perpetual collection since its debut in 1992 . We have seen several iterations of this sporty watch in various sizes, such as 40mm, 37mm, and 35mm, along with the Yacht-Master II, but this is the first time we have seen the Yacht-Master 40 set with Rolex’s famous gemstones. And boy is this one set with gemstones.

Rolex Yacht-Master 40 gem set

The new Rolex Yacht-Master 40 with gem-set bezel.

The latest Yacht-Master 40 is pretty much the same watch we know from 2015 , with the addition of a bright gem-set bezel. The watch still features a 40mm 18k Everose gold case (in case you forgot, Everose is Rolex’s special rose gold alloy) and has the rich glossy black dial with oversized white lume plots (Chromalight to be exact) and Everose surrounds. The movement is still the same trusty automatic caliber 3135 movement and the watch can still boast 100 meters (330 feet) of water resistance.

The new thing about this watch is the rainbow-colored rotating bezel. I have talked about Rolex’s impeccable gem-setting technique before, and while it is clearly not for everyone, it deserves your respect. Here the bezel is set with 32 sapphires, eight tsavorites, and one diamond, fitted perfectly together, creating a vibrant look on an otherwise sporty timepiece.

rolex yacht-master oysterflex

The new Rolex Yacht-Master has the Oysterflex strap featured on the previous iteration.

Finally, this watch is finished with a black Oysterflex rubber strap (which was developed and patented by Rolex) and 18k Everose Oysterlock clasp. There's no news yet on pricing for this watch, but we will update this story as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to check back soon for live photographs too.

You can read more about the new Yacht-master 40 on the Rolex website .

The weight of a Rolex watch greatly affects how it feels and sits on the wrist. The more weight a watch has, the more sporty it feels. But at the same time, some people prefer to have a wristwatch which has some heft to it which allows the watch to sit nicely and heavily on the wrist.

Over the years, Rolex watches have become heavier. There are many reasons for this, but the main reasons are that the bracelets now use solid end links and links as opposed to folded links. Roll Cart Sizes

Roll carts come in 35, 65, and 95-gallon sizes, and prices increase accordingly. A fee schedule for these and all our services offered through the City of Moscow can be found here .

Curbside Guidelines

● Set carts out by 7:00 a.m., remove from the street within 24 hours.

● ” Wheels in arrows out! ” Place wheeled cart against the curb or along the alley with the handle pointing toward your residence.

● Keep carts at least three feet away from other carts, mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles so trucks can easily access the cart.

● Roll-carts are available in 35, 65, and 95 gallons. The correctly sized cart should allow for occasional extra volume.

● Please DO NOT OVERSTUFF CARTS. Overstuffing can cause trash to get stuck during the servicing process, leaving you with a less-than-empty cart. If you find yourself consistently producing more trash than comfortably fits in your tote, please consider moving up a size or utilizing our Transfer Station .

● Items that are around or fall from your roll-cart during collection are the responsibility of the customer. To avoid this, please tie off all garbage in plastic bags and place in roll-cart.

● If your garbage or recycling is missed, please call INW at (208)882-5724 as soon as possible.

Material Restrictions

Materials not allowed: construction material, TVs, monitors, hot ashes, human waste, large quantities of animal waste, dead animals, solvents, flammable liquids, asbestos, ammunition, fuel tanks, hazardous materials.

Your recyclables should be picked up on the same day as your trash is collected. Pickups occur every other week.

PLEASE NOTE: Holidays may affect your regular pickup schedules. All collections scheduled on or after the holiday will be made one day later that week

What materials are accepted?

Plastic : #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs (with screw top lids). Empty and rinse.

Metal, Aluminum, &Tin : Aluminum & Tin beverage and food cans. Empty, rinse and dry.

Corrugated Cardboard : Clean and dry.

Paper : Newspaper, junk mail, cereal and dry food boxes, office paper, phone books, envelopes, non-foil wrapping paper. Books with hardbacks removed. Clean and dry.

What materials are not accepted?

The following materials are not accepted:

Glass of any kind.

Plastic #3-7 including plastic bags.

Styrofoam, medicine containers, plastic caps or lids, plastic plates or utensils, plastic clothes hangers, plastic motor oil or antifreeze containers.

You get the idea, check your plastics!

Candy wrappers, chip bags, and garden hoses are also not accepted.

Metal : No aluminum foil, caps, rings, or lids, aerosol spray cans, paint cans, sharp or greasy metals, and metal clothes hangers.

Paper : No shredded paper or e-waste, food-soiled food boxes (looking at you, pizza boxes!). Paper and cardboard must be dry. Disposable diapers, wax or plastic-coated cardboard, paper towels, plates, or napkins, soiled paper, and facial tissue are also unable to be processed.

Other Restrictions : No electronics, lightbulbs, CDs, DVDs cases and their cases, and no batteries, ceramics, or dishes.

When in doubt, throw it out!

Why are there so many restrictions?

Contamination and wishful recycling can lead to whole loads of recycling being landfilled, increasing costs to all and having detrimental effects on our environment. Please follow the prescribed guidelines to the best of your ability to help us avoid such consequences.

Container Rental

Roll Off containers (8-yard, 11-yard, 15-yard, 22-yard, 30-yard, and 45-yard capacity) are available for rental. Please contact INW for fees and scheduling.

Solid Waste Processing Facility

Up to date information on INW’s Solid Waste Processing Facility at our Transfer Station can be found here .

Paint Disposal

Throw dried paint out with the trash.

Once paint has dried, it is virtually harmless to the environment. Open all paint cans and check the paint inside. If it is dried, throw the can (with the lid removed) directly into your household trash.

Recycle Good Paint

Open the paint and give it a stir. If the paint stirs into a lumpy consistency or if the liquid and pigment remain separated after stirring, your paint is bad. If it stirs into a smooth, even consistency, your paint is good. Please check with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity or Sojourners Alliance to see if they could use your paint. Good paint may also be brought to the HHW Facility.

Solidify and Dispose of Bad Latex Paint

If your water-based paint has gone bad, please help keep HHW collection costs down by solidifying and disposing of the paint on your own. To solidify water-based paint, mix clumping kitty litter into the paint until it solidifies into one mass. Once latex paint has been solidified in this manner, it can be treated the same way you would treat dried paint–leave the lid off the can and throw it into your regular trash.

Bring Wet Oil-Based Paint to the Waste Processing Facility

Oil-based paints pose a greater environmental hazard than water-based paints, so if you have oil-based paints that are not dried out, bring them to the HHW collection facility DURING HOURS OF OPERATION (see above) to be processed with other hazardous materials.

Event Services

If you are having a large party or gathering or sponsoring an event in Moscow, Inland North Waste/Moscow Recycling has various containers for recycling free of charge .

Depending on your needs, we can accept plastic bottles, cans, paper products, and, with enough lead time, food residuals composting. Please contact INW for scheduling details. PLEASE NOTE: The City of Moscow has first priority for city events/programming.

By utilizing these services, the Moscow Renaissance Fair achieves 90% diversion of the waste they produce by composting and recycling, and we would love nothing more than to help your upcoming event reach a similar level of sustainability.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

yacht master 40 weight

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

yacht master 40 weight

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

yacht master 40 weight

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

yacht master 40 weight

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

yacht master 40 weight

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

yacht master 40 weight

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
