Motor yacht Vivierae II was launched in China in 2017 by Nordhavn. She is a 29.5-metre explorer, designed by the in-house team of Nordhavn and can accommodate up to ten guests in five deluxe cabins, with a crew of five on board.

The swim platform provides an easy way in and out of the water with quick access to the main deck aft, where guests can dine alfresco at the aft sofa and raised table. Alternatively, there is a port staircase connecting to the upper deck the group can rest on the stern settee and take in the views or get refreshments from the bar. An additional seat is placed in front of the helm station for a more tranquil location to take in the forward views.

Sunbathers have choice options for relaxation on the flybridge, with the aft section offering a double-sized sunpad and a Jacuzzi forward. For a break from the sunshine, the enclosed forward section beneath the hardtop is fitted with a starboard bar and a port alfresco dining area with an extendable table and a C-shaped sofa.

The decor is an update on the timeless and elegant superyacht interior, providing deep wood panelling and bright white furnishings with accents in silver and blue. Mirrors on the ceiling enhance the lighting and vibrant modern artwork with marbling effects stands out against the otherwise neutral tones.

On the lower deck, the accommodation provides guests with one double cabin and two twin cabins convertible to doubles, all with en-suite facilities. A forward glass staircase connects the levels and adds to the ambiance of the main deck formal dining area, which places a sizeable bar to the port side and a grand table to seat eight guests beneath a bespoke chandelier. Farther aft is the salon, which creates a symmetrical setting with matching L-shaped sofas under both windows as well as two coffee tables and armchairs. The Master suite is positioned forward on the main deck and benefits from large windows for plenty of natural light and a spacious bathroom.

The upper deck hosts the helm station and the Captain's cabin, with the aft space dedicated to the sky lounge which can be converted into a fifth guest cabin. The cosy interior is a comfortable place to rest and converse after an alfresco meal on the aft deck, and the broad windows ensure that guests have excellent views while seated on the L-shaped sofa or in the armchair.

A pair of Caterpillar (C18) 454 HP diesel engines provides a top speed of 12 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots with a range of 3,000 nautical miles.

Power comes from a pair of CAT C18 ACERT engines, which allow Vivierae to reach a top speed of 12 knots. She cruises at the speed of 9.5 knots and has a range of 3,000 nm.

VivieRae is equipped with the latest entertainment system utilizing iPads to control the TV, music, and movie server. You may connect your phone via Bluetooth to the sound system. We have over 500 movies available for you to view. M/Y VivieRae has a complete medical kit on the boat, in the event of an emergency, the CAPTAIN will assist. He is trained to administer First Aid and has access to additional professional medical advice 24/7.

Crew Information

Captain: Gareth Schwegman

Gareth Schwegman Captain(rotational) Captain Gareth Schwegman was born in South Africa and grew up around the yachting industry. His love of the ocean and seamanship skills was honed in his native South Africa on family sailing excursions off the coast of Durban and Mozambique. His father’s sailing school, which specializes in mega yacht crew training, also played a role in Gareth’s decision to join the yachting industry and obtain his captain’s license. Gareth began his yachting career as a deckhand in 2001 and in 2005 became a captain on the Belle de Jour. Prior to VivieRae II Gareth was the captain on VivieRae another Nordhavn owned by Bob and Sandy Giles. Gareth has been the captain for Bob and Sandy Giles since October of 2012. He was instrumental in the build process of VivieRae II and is responsible for many design ideas that were incorporated during the build process to make sure that VivieRae II was completed to the highest standards. Gareth is married to Carolyn and they have two boys Josh and Ethan. Carolyn was the chef on the former VivieRae until they had their second child. “Caro” as she is referred to and the boys are welcome visitors to the boat and Mike and Teri have almost become there aunt and uncle. Gareth holds his MCA Yachtmaster Offshore 200 ton license, MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, MCA Navigation and Radar, MCA General Ships Knowledge, MCA Advanced Sea Survival, and Marshall Islands Endorsements for Offshore and GMDSS certificates. Gareth has extensive cruising experience in the Caribbean, Central America, and the West Coast of California to Alaska and the entire east coast to New England. Gareth is happy to answer any questions you may have and looks forward to leading guests of M/Y VivieRae II to new discoveries. Arnold Heins Captain – (Rotational) Arnold comes to Vivierae II with ten years of experience under his belt. His career took off back in 2008 when he started as deckhand on a 76’ sailing catamaran. It was a life as a dive instructor and a love for the ocean that lead him to pursue a career in yachting. In 2011 he became Captain on a 58’ charter sailing catamaran. Arnold transitioned from sailing yachts to motor yachts in 2013 when he started to run a 100’ Hargrave in South Florida and the Bahamas. Before captaining Vivierae II, Arnold was the captain on board the sister ship, a 96’ Nordhavn, Lacey Kay. Arnold ran Lacey Kay alongside his wife and two other crewmembers for almost three years. He cruised with the owners from Alaska to Panama on the west coast, and from Columbia to Maine on the east coast. He has extensive cruising experience of the Caribbean, Bahamas, New England, Central America and the west coast of America, including Alaska. Arnold's love for diving, water sports, and spotting the ideal anchorage makes him a great asset to Vivierae II. His passion for people, entertaining and being on the water is evident to his guest and makes for the perfect charter experience. He is from South Africa and speaks English and Afrikaans. Briar Meades Chef Briar is from New Zealand, she grew up with her father, a Chef, so naturally a passion for food was quickly instilled into her at a young age. Under his guidance she developed many skills and then Briar furthered her knowledge and skills from her eldest sister who also became a Chef. After high school Briar moved to Western Australia and spent the next two years living and traveling around Australia. She then settled back home in New Zealand and began her culinary training at The New Zealand School of Food and Wine. Briar worked as a Corporate Catering Chef at a law firm for 2 years before moving to a new venture at Misters Cafe. There she developed a holistic approach to cooking as it was a gluten free, refined sugar and dairy free establishment. Most recently Briar was the sole Chef onboard M/Y Andrea VI for two years, cruising the East Coast of America and the Bahamas. Briar has attained her level three certificate in Culinary Arts, level three Certificate in food safety and hygiene, STCW 95, and has her open water SCUBA certification. Briar looks forward to catering to all your culinary needs. Matt Cowie Mate Matt grew up in both Australia and New Zealand, he is an avid surfer who leads a healthy lifestyle and loves life on the water. Growing up near the beach helped shape Matt into the ocean lover he is today, he loves to surf, fish and dive in the world’s most beautiful destinations. This is Matts sixth year in the yachting industry and so far the job has taken him to some of the most beautiful places on the planet with extensive cruising of the Mediterranean, the Middle East, The Maldives and most recently the Bahamas and the east coast of the United States. Matt has several certifications including RYA Yachtmaster, Offshore RYA, Powerboat level II, Approved Engine Course, Open water SCUBA diver, Diploma in Fitness (AUT University New Zealand) just to name a few. Stewardess- J-Dean van der Westhuizen J-Dean grew up in Potchefstroom- a small town in South Africa. After completing her honors degree at University she moved to Johannesburg to follow a career as New Business Executive. Her heart was yearning to travel the world, meet new people and learn about other cultures. J-Dean resigned from her big city job to pursue a career as stewardess with Emirates airlines where she worked for 3 years. Meeting her now fiancé in Dubai they decided to join the yachting industry together. J-Dean enjoys hiking, kayaking, SUP, fishing, scuba diving and team sports in her time off. She looks forward creating a memorable experience on board! Deckhand- Jevan Wyngaard Jean grew up in small fishing town in South Africa. After completing School he did a 6 month apprenticeship in building Boats. Once he complete his apprenticeship he got offered a contract to go play rugby in England. Having a injury change his vision into hospitality where he went to Dubai to work for Well-known Hotels Like Marriott International & IHG hotel groups in the food & beverage department. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Jean van Wyngaard - Captain Jean grew up in a small fishing town in South Africa. After completing school, he did a 6-month apprenticeship in building boats. Once he completed his apprenticeship, he got offered a contract to go play rugby in England. Having an injury changed his vision into hospitality and he went to Dubai to work for well-known hotels like Marriott International & IHG hotel groups in the food & beverage department. Jean met his fiancé in Dubai and they decided to travel the world by working in the yachting industry. Jean is passionate about the ocean and he strives to make the crew and guests have a memorable time and safety is where it all starts. After realizing that his passion is with the ocean, he has aimed to progress in his career. Jean aims to complete his 300 GT ticket. His certifications include GST, NAV & Radar, ARPA, GMDSS, Helm & Bridge Management, Advance Fire & Medical Advance Sea Survival, STCW, PDSD, Powerboat Level 2, PWC (jet-ski), Yacht Master Unlimited, Food & Hygiene Level 3, & VHF Radio. Jess enjoys hiking when her feet are on land and especially enjoys cold dips in the ocean. Kyle Cross - First Mate Kyle is from Johannesburg, South Africa and is half Scottish. He grew up nowhere near the ocean but had family that lived on the coast, this is where his love for the ocean started at a young age. He is the mate onboard and has 18 years of experience on yachts of all shapes and sizes. One of his greatest achievements is racing across the Atlantic Ocean by sailboat. He plans to keep building on his already vast experience, traveling the world and experiencing all that is out there to one day soon be the best captain he can be. In his downtime, he enjoys many water sports but by far loves fishing the most. He also enjoys getting back to his roots and is an avid camper of the off-beaten track, normally never too far from water. J-Dean van der Westhuizen - Chief Stew Named after James Dean, J-Dean grew up Potchefstroom - an academic town 120km southwest of Johannesburg, South Africa. After completing her degree in Communication Management and honors in Entrepreneurship and Marketing at The North West University, she moved to Johannesburg to start a career as a new business executive. This new career only lasted a year and a half when she realized living in one place was not meant for her. Her heart was yearning to travel the world, meet new people, and learn about other cultures. J-Dean resigned from her big city job to pursue her dream as a stewardess with Emirate Airlines where she worked for 3 years. Meeting her now fiancé in Dubai, they decided to join the yachting industry together in 2017. J-Dean & Jean started working on VIVIERAE II for Bob & Sandy Giles in 2019 and have not looked back since. She aims to give the best experience to guests, making them feel comfortable and at home on board whilst giving them what they want before they even know it. Elizabeth Stander - Second Stew Elizabeth was born in a neighboring country to South Africa, called Namibia. She moved to South Africa to start her studies as an Interior Designer in 2018. She has always wanted to travel, and yachting seemed like the perfect way to go. She and Dennis started their yachting careers in January 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and joined VIVIERAE II in March 2023. She loves the outdoors and learning new things. She has a passion for exercise and being healthy. Dennis Stander - Engineer/Deckhand Dennis grew up in Potchefstroom, South Africa far from the ocean. He studied mechanical engineering at the North West University in Potchefstroom. Dennis is a God-fearing family man whose greatest joy is his amazing wife. He lives for adventure and enjoying beauty in life. Mechanical engineer by trade, deck/engineer by profession. Previously Dennis worked as a project engineer in the mining and production environment. Dennis’s experience also includes overland and nature tour guiding, working at ski resorts in Colorado US, maintenance work in the UK, and a year of military training in South Africa. Dennis’s yachting certifications include STCW, PDSD, and Open Water Scuba. Dennis’s hobbies include: scuba diving, hunting, hiking, rugby, squash, weight training, and the biggest of all is braai-ing. Dennis is always keen on learning new skills and he wants to deliver a quality guest experience. Nordhavn motor yacht Vivierae sold

The 26.82 metre motor yacht Vivierae has been sold with Glynn Smith at Denison Yacht Sales representing both buyer and seller.

Designed by Jeff Leishman , she was built in GRP by the Taiwanese yard Nordhavn to ABS class as hull number one in the yard’s 86 series and delivered in 2008 with a refit in 2014. Décor throughout is in American cherry wood paneling with mahogany inserts and accommodation is for eight guests in four cabins consisting of a master suite, VIP suite, a double and a twin, all with entertainment centres, television screens and en-suite bathroom facilities.

The main deck saloon has a convivial relaxation area in the lounge, with two comfortable settees to port and starboard facing coffee tables flanked by arm chairs, seating a total of 10 guests. Forward is a low cabinet concealing a hidden flatscreen television on a rise and fall mechanism — this cabinet acts as a divider between the lounge and dining room forward. Formal dining is offered for 10 guests in new upholstered chairs and there is an ice maker, sink, wine cooler and custom cabinets for all crockery, cutlery and glassware.

Up in the skylounge lies a charcoal coloured L-shaped settee to port providing a great spot to watch a film on the flatscreen television, which rises from an aft cabinet at the touch of a button. The flybridge has no helm station but is instead dedicated to the al fresco enjoyment of guests, featuring a C-shaped settee and table to port, a drinks fridge and a large barbecue grill, plus a 52-inch television and a Jacuzzi tub, partially covered by the hard top. Twin 425hp Lugger engines give her a range of 4,000 nautical miles at her cruising speed of 10.5 knots.

I realize that Moscow is on the Volga River, which connects to the Caspian Sea, but I’m wondering how foreign vessels can reach it? Or do foreign travel companies just buy a yacht that’s already "in the system"?

From the Caspian Sea, Gary, yachts come up the Volga then on to the Oka River and enter a tributary call the Moskva ("Moscow" in Russian) River. Alternate route is Volga to man-made Moscow Canal (which connects Volga to Moskva River). The big superyachts can’t get into the city limits because the river is only 3 inches deep. Just outside of the city, however, the water is 6 meters deep, perfect for large yachts. Yacht passengers easily travel into the city by limousine. (I imagine thoughts of hovercrafts, etc are a consideration for someday…) James Bond, anyone?
