I really just dont understand why if I want customer service, reliable information, or good activities...Not Great, just good, I have to travel completely out of My Neighboorhood! Is is that no one wants to do their job? I signed my son up for a program and wanted to find out what More they offered. I was asked my sons name then told they didnt have him registered. Now the Only reason I gave my sons name is because I was asked His Name! After a few minutes I was told they didnt have him ... I told her his age , Yes he Is a minor. I told the nice lady she left me a vm saying to pick up key cards. Once i play the vm. She then tells me he cant pick up key cards??? Hes not 18. OK! Then she says, its under my name BC he is a minor. Well then Look Under My Name First! Then I ask about any more programs b4 summers done. Her: well u can bring him but I suggest u stay or he is supervised. Me: I just stare blamk faced. I didnt get my answet. Now i dont know what parent just drops off a 13 yr old at the bank of Lake Michigan, but it aint Me! So then I ask about the children out there in the water now. She tells me that its a sailing program but its full. GREAT UPSALE! Now they do put on a few actvities like movie nite, food, but i was asked am I getting the emails. I AM RIGHT ON FRONT OF YOU. WALLET IN HAND, NOT ASKING FOR FREE. Just wanted to know about how we can benefit each other. Oh I forgot, i had been sitting outside, waiting for someone to talk to for 33 min By Myself! When the people who work came from out the lake, do you Both of these 2 Grown indivduals didnt acknowledge my presence! Just walked right by. I then stopped the sista & asked if there was anyone available to talk w me. Now ofcourse I asked another individual whn I got there if anyone was available but i was told they were all un the water, thats why i waited patiently. BUT THE WHOLE TIME HER WAS UPSTAIRS. (HER=Someone in charge) Thanks JPYC. Is this one of the reason all the boats are now on 31st. My son really would have enjoyed some edicational hands on learning from some professionals since hes going to be a Marine Biologist.

I once again raise my martini glass to those fortunate enough to have their boat or yacht in this historic, beautiful marina. In 1893 the Chicago World's Fair was held right in this area. The north end of the fair is now the Museum of Science and Industry and this harbour borders the south end which is near a replica of the Statue of the Republic which was made famous at the World's Fair. The replica was made in 1913 and is awesome and represents America's freedom and it's pioneer spirit.

As you enter The boathouse you are greeted by an authentic telephone booth there are two of them at the front door. There are those who will wonder what a telephone booth is, and that's fine. The Yacht Club is a tribute to the quality of life that has and still exist on Chicago's Southside. South shore is one of the last lakefront properties in the USA inhabited by primarily African-American peoples. June 2, 2021, 4:51 am We just joined the club this year because we bought a sailboat and don't know how to sail.:-) Everyone at the club has been really friendly and helped us get settled on the boat and given a lot of assistance in learning to sail. The club is 125 years going strong. We just had a quasquicentennial celebration with a gorgeous party on the harbor front with a delicious dinner and dancing. Jackson Park Outer Harbor is located in the heart of Jackson Park just off 63 rd Street Beach.  The harbor is beautifully set within the park and its quiet temperament and friendly faces make it a relaxing part of the lakefront.  Jackson Park Yacht Club calls the harbor home and an old Coast Guard station stands watch over the western shore.  With 115 slips and mooring cans, the harbor can accommodate boats from 25’-40’ in length.

Transient docking is available; you can submit reservation requests through the Dockwa app or website beginning May 1st.  Waste pump-out equipment is available on a no-charge basis. The Jackson Park Yacht Club offers a mast stepping/unstepping capability.  The harbor monitors channel 9 and 16 and the switch to/working channel is 68.

JPYC FOUNDATION

The Jackson Park Yacht Club Foundation (JPYC Foundation) is an Illinois nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to provide the outreach, education, training, support and resources necessary to engage young people in boating and other activities on and around the water, including non-traditional participants in boating activities. The JPYC Foundation is the non-profit affiliate of the Jackson Park Yacht Club (JPYC).

Junior Sailing Programs

The JPYC Foundation offers multiple programs throughout the summer for both member and non-member children. The classes are held in two-week sessions (Monday through Friday from 9AM – 3:30PM) during June, July, and August.

Students receive both classroom and on-the-water instruction. Classes are taught by US Sailing certified instructors and US Sailing REACH/Stem instructors. Instruction is completed on 420s, Bugs and/or RS Feva XL sailboats.

Students perform a sailing demonstration at the end of each session, wherein parents can take photographs and videos of their junior sailors. The demonstration is followed by an awards ceremony and dinner, which can be purchased at an additional cost (financial assistance available if needed).

Youth classes are geared to the students’ different sailing abilities and interests. Please note that the JPYC Foundation reserves the right to select the appropriate class level in order to ensure that children are in the best level for their age, size and experience.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, if inclement weather, classes may be cancelled.

Participation Requirements

• Swim Check :  Swimming is recommended, but not required. However, all students must be comfortable in the water. Instructors conduct a swim check on the first day of class. The swim check requires that each child be able to swim 50 feet fully clothed with a life jacket on and then tread water. Bring a towel and a change of clothes to every class. Please note that the Chicago Park District offers affordable swimming lessons .
• Life Jackets : All students must wear a US Coast Guard Approved Type III Vest PFD (Life Jacket) at all times.  We provide the life jackets. However, you may purchase one for your child to wear if you would like.
• Bring to Class Every Day :  Closed Toed Shoes, Sunscreen, Suitable Sailing Attire, Change of Dry Clothes and Lunch

Discounts: A 10% discount is available for enrolling: (1) two siblings in the same session, (2) enrolling the same child in multiple sessions, or (3) both of the above (siblings/multiple sessions).
