Returning once again to the iconic Port Vell in Barcelona, the MYBA Charter Show is scheduled to feature some of the most staggering yachts available for charter.

Scheduled to run from 24-27 April 2023, the event has become a mainstay in the international calendar for those in the superyacht sector, and is expected to welcome high numbers of attendees to view a captivating fleet of luxury yachts for charter this year. 

The show acts as a prime opportunity for brokers to tour some of the finest members of the charter fleet, and gather first-hand information on behalf of their clients.

The history of the show

Now in its fourth decade, the industry-only event made the switch from its previous address in Italy in 2017.

The show was held in Genoa for almost thirty years before moving to the glitzy setting of OnceOcean Port Vell, where it will now be hosted for the foreseeable future.

Organised by MYBA, the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association, the line-up for the 33rd edition will boast a spectacular selection of superyachts.

As well as stepping on board to experience these yachts for themselves, brokers are also able to meet with captains and crew, and attend informative events designed to facilitate networking and connecting with fellow attendees.

Ancillary events

The highly-anticipated Chef’s Competition will be making a comeback to the MYBA Charter Show this year. Putting superyacht chefs through their paces, the competitors will be tasked with impressing an expert panel of judges with their menus.

Alongside them, interior crews will be attempting to wow judges with a Tabletop competition and deck teams will be putting their entertainment skills to the test in separate contests which will inject some fun into proceedings.

The 32 nd MYBA Charter Show is planned for late April 2023, welcoming a superb fleet of superyachts to Barcelona’s Port Vell.

This is a Professional Trade Show with a long history and dedication to quality. It is an  important business gathering, bringing together the world’s leading luxury charter professionals and providing them with the opportunity to appraise some of the finest yachts available for charter, meet with the boats’ captains and crew, and explore an exceptional array of ancillary services.

The Show originally started in Genoa, Italy and was held there for almost thirty years before moving to Barcelona in 2017. The wonderful setting of Ocean Port Vell was chosen for future shows, where it has been hosted annually ever since and where it is expected to remain for the foreseeable future.

The 34th MYBA Charter Show will be held in Marina Molo Vecchio - Genoa from Monday 22 April to Thursday 25 April 2024. The historic centre of Genoa, the largest in all of Europe, is a sumptuous and fitting backdrop for the Show and one that is well worth exploring if time permits.

How to Get Here

Genoa International Airport is situated less than 10 km away from Marina Molo Vecchio and offers a dedicated hub for helicopters and private flights. Taxi and transfer services are readily available to/from Marina Molo Vecchio and the city centre.

Marina Molo Vecchio is located 2km from Piazza Principe and 3 km from Brignole, Genoa’s two major railway stations. There are frequent train connections with the French Riviera, Milan and other main Italian cities.

The closest motorway way exit to Marina Molo Vecchio is Genoa Ovest which, through the Sopraelevata (flyover that passes above the city centre), allows you to reach the marina in a few minutes. Multiple parking options are available in the area (see map) . MYBA Charter Show participants are entitled to a 30% discount on tariffs in the indicated car parks. Once parked, you can request discounted tickets at the Show Reception desk.

Yacht arrival

When organising your call in Genoa, please note that:

• Yachts over 300 GRT need to appoint a local ship agent in advance, in order to fulfill compulsory pre-arrival formalities
• For yachts over 500 GRT Pilot on board and Port mooring assistance are compulsory
• Sailing yachts with more than 60 mt air draft must inform Marina Molo Vecchio in order to arrange their entry

Arrival procedures:

• One hour before entering the Port please call Genoa Port Pilots on VHF channel 12
• While approaching the Port Area please call Genoa Traffic on VHF 11 and stand by on VHF 16
• Once inside the Port, please call Marina Molo Vecchio on VHF channel 71

Dock assistance:

Marina Molo Vecchio dock attendants are on standby on VHF channel 71. They are ready to assist you during mooring manoeuvres, hand you the ground lines from the dinghies, take your stern lines from the dock and finally provide water, shore power and internet connection.

Barcelona MYBA Charter Show 2023: Best Yachts On Display

Explore some of the best moments of this year’s myba charter show in barcelona..

The Denison charter team spent three days in Barcelona at the MYBA Charter Show this April. The show “was a success, with a great selection of 25 superyachts from all kinds (modern, classic, sailing),” according to Denison’s Europe Charter Management Director Nicolas Fry , who was in attendance–along with Europe Director Jeremy Roche and charter specialists Caroline Antlett and Molly Playfair . Discover the highlights of the show, including some of our charter team’s favorite yachts on display.

Nicolas Fry’s Top Picks

The Barcelona MYBA Charter Show was a huge hit for all who attended. Each member of our team reported back on their most preferred yachts and what they liked about them. “We all had our favorites and, for me, it was M/Y MARALA , a 59m classic yacht from 1931 built by Camper & Nicholsons and refitted completely in the last five years at Pendennis,” Nicolas shared. “It’s amazing how they rebuilt this yacht like new, keeping its old spirit.”

“My second favorite is M/Y ARTISAN , a 63m Benetti from 2019. The interior of this yacht is very well-designed and the crew is just incredible. We enjoyed a great tour of the yacht and then were offered some canapés and delicious white wine. We couldn’t leave this yacht as the discussions with the captain, the chief steward, and the stewardess were so interesting. Hospitality at its best onboard this yacht and on many other ones.”

“I also had the privilege to be invited for lunch on board S/Y MINDFULNESS, a 24m Advanced from 2021. The Italian crew made us feel like we had arrived on an Italian island like Sardinia or Sicily with great pasta and lots of prosecco.”

Other than impressive yachts, there were also amazing events, including one hosted by Denison. “On the first day of the show, Denison Yachting organized its first cocktail party in Barcelona and it was a huge success,” Nicolas commented. “We hosted about 100 guests–charter brokers from all different companies, captains and crew from yachts attending the show, friends and colleagues from the industry. We were at a Mexican restaurant called Oaxaca and privatized the bar, called La Mezcaleria. We enjoyed great Mexican food, beers, cava, Mezcal, and margaritas. The event was sponsored by four partners: H&V Yachting, Med Yacht Services, Fort Insurance/Yacht Safe, and Luxury Treasure Hunt. This partner offered us a nice show with a magician and even a quick happening with Michael Jackson and two dancers. Our guests enjoyed a fun evening and were delighted to network in this friendly atmosphere.”

Molly Playfair’s Favorites

Molly Playfair also had a nice list of picks for clients looking to charter a yacht. “For our catamaran fans, SYLENE, the Lagoon 77. She has five cabins thanks to a unique layout, an amazing use of space for a boat of this size.  Super fresh and calming interior and a lovely French crew of four to look after your every need, including a stewardess who is a trained masseuse and a deckhand who is a Pilates and yoga instructor–these extras are a rarity on a boat of this size.”

Another top recommendation: “The 1990 Feadship, EMERALD , beautifully reimagined by Design Unlimited in a total interior and exterior refit last year. She is looking immaculate.”

“Last but not least, the 2020 Amels GALENE ,” Molly says. “Her on-paper credentials speak for themselves, but in going onboard and meeting the crew, I became even more aware of her fantastic water toy inventory–you name it, this boat has got it. From aquaglides to wake surfs to Seabobs and sailing dinghies, and a crew to match, including a kite surf and sailing instructor.” It seems like this charter yacht really has it all.

Caroline Antlett’s Preferred Yachts

Caroline Antlett was eager to share her favorites for her clientele: “I also loved MARALA, PANDION PEARL, and the Sunreef VIDA LA VIDA.”

“ MARALA is a boat with a level of history that must be almost unparalleled. She was built in the ’30s, converted into a warship in WW2, and saw action out in the tropics. She has been meticulously refitted and has so many special touches, such as a wooden Riva sailing boat that was the first sailing dingy used in the Olympics. Her interior is an elegant 1930s glamour. She is niche, but for the right client, she would be perfection.”

“ PANDION PEARL has a really stunning and different interior,” she shared. “There are a lot of strong colors and features yet also soft shapes, so it feels inviting and comfortable at the same time. The owner’s wife did the interior. Between the crew, they speak 11 languages, which is something different to be able to offer.”

“VIDA LA VIDA has a beautiful interior design and large cabins that we were not used to previously with catamarans. The master has a walk-in wardrobe and storage is not an issue. The chef does mindfulness and yoga with clients.” There is much that differentiates this charter yacht from the rest.

“I also loved SYLENE,” Caroline enthused, “and the stew does hair and nails and makes her own organic skincare, which is really another level.” Talk about added perks!

Denison is excited to have had such a great experience at the 2023 MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona. We look forward to next year!

MYBA 2023 CHARTER SHOW DATES ANNOUNCED

The official MYBA 2023 Charter Show dates have been announced. The 33rd Show will take place from Monday April 24 to Thursday April 27, once again at the world-class facilities of Marina Port Vell in Barcelona. It will be the Show that opens the next charter season as both the Palma Superyacht Village (PSV) and the Mediterranean Yacht Show (MEDYS) will follow.

The PSV will be held in Palma de Mallorca from April 27 to April 30 while the MEDYS in Nafplion will welcome its attendees from April 29 to May 03. Cross association communication preceded the finalisation of dates in order to avoid unnecessary overlaps and facilitate travel plans.

All the teams involved in the preparation of the annual MYBA Charter Show have already begun the preliminary work that is necessary to ensure the success of the next event. Of which will include a series of initiatives pertinent to the matter of sustainability. Our intention, global circumstances permitting, is to open registration at the end of this year and work with a much longer lead time than 2022, which was a transitional year with many challenges. In closing, we would like to wish you a wonderful Mediterranean summer season and… ens veiem a Barcelona!

BARCELONA BOAT SHOW 2023

The 61st edition of the Barcelona International Show Boat will allow all the fans to experience what it means to be the venue for the third major international sporting competition, after the Olympic Games and the football World Cup.

This October the show will help to bring the America’s Cup closer to the city, as well as bringing a wide range of boats and the whole nautical world to the Port Vell.

From the 11th to the 15th of October, the Marina Port Vell, Moll de la Fusta and Moll d’Espanya in the Catalan capital will once again be the epicentre of the nautical world with the commercial offer of the leading boat show in Spain and a benchmark event in Europe. But beyond being able to discover the latest models and innovations in boats, the show will be filled with the atmosphere of the America’s Cup in the city through exhibitions, workshops and experiences that will be held around it and that will aim to bring this legendary competition to fans, families and lovers of the sea.

The show will offer, among other activities, the possibility of visiting the America’s Cup Experience, an immersive exhibition space that will open at the beginning of August, where visitors will be able to feel, among other things, the sensations of sailing aboard an AC75 class monohull sailboat like those that will sail the waters off the Barcelona coastline during the competition in a virtual reality simulator.

Barcelona Boat Show and the one year countdown to the America’s Cup 2024

Barcelona Boat Show 2023

Barcelona’s 61st annual international boat show, the Salón Náutico , takes over Port Vell from 11th to 15th October with 279 exhibitors and 700 boats, a colourful display of yachts, luxury cruisers, catamarans and inflatables in the heart of the city. Visitors can discover the latest innovations in the nautical industry, visit the innovation hub for start-ups and this year, experience being aboard an AC75 class monohull, one of the America’s Cup yachts, in a virtual simulator.

America’s Cup 2024

This year’s boat show carries extra vibrancy, coming just twelve months before Barcelona hosts the 37th America’s Cup , the world’s most prestigious sailing competition. The America’s Cup Experience, next to the teams’ bases in Port Vell and already open, brings the event vividly to life while the preliminary regatta sees racing start on the final day of the boat show, with all five challenger teams in action.
