Having braved the hurricane-like winds battering Gordon's Bay, we breezed into the nearest restaurant, this one. From the start the staff were friendly and attentive and we found all the food pleasant, well prepared and served in a timely fashion. Starters were the Prawn Bruschetta... and Calamari and Whitebait. Both nice. Mains was the Sushi platter for 2, which they were happy to swap a couple of the rolls about, and we finished with deserts of Afagato and Baclava ice-cream while I had cheesecake. All served with a smile from our young waiter, whose name I didn't get. More

We had read some of the negative reviews and were turned off but on the last full day in GORDON'S BAY, we stopped off for lunch. The food was bang on and very fresh and tasty. The wait staff on the other hand really had... an issue with sense of urgency. case in point, we needed a fork so we could eat our food which had just arrived, long story, I got up and got a fork and the waitress came after my meal was almost done to give me the fork....what the fork??? So suffice to say I am happy that this Ocean Basket is still putting out great food but the wait staff are so bad...sorry guys!! More

From the moment we stepped in, the unwelcoming manager (Tofika) along with her staff looked extremely disappointed to have us come through their doors as they were apparently having a quiet evening and were preparing to cash up -mind you, there WERE customers seated !... My partner and I brushed that incident off and prepared ourselves for an enjoyable evening with great food and wine- even that experience was short lived. The food was great, the wine not so much -it literally tasted like vinegar with red food coloring. Tofika (manager) showed absolutely no compassion or even interest at our dissatisfaction with the wine, offered no ultimatum whatsoever, this was the absolute breaking point for me. I chose to exclude myself from conversing with her because the sight of her was just infuriating, we paid our bill and left. I’ve NEVER , and I mean NEVER had any problems with the house wine at any other Ocean Basket. What an absolute disappointment of an experience and even more disappointed by the leadership and managerial skills of Tofika. More

We have visited multiple outlets of this chain, but this one has always failed us in some way or the other. But this time it was unacceptable. We arrived before the dinner rush and was seated at a table that had not yet been properly... cleared (new paper cloths, side plates and cutlery was not ready). Our server appeared to be more intent on serving other tables and had to be told on numerous occasions to complete various items for our table. After delivering our pre-dinner drinks and rushing to take our order so that he could be"somewhere else" we never saw him at our table again. A manager delivered our food and we asked her for a bottle of wine. We were half way through dinner when we had to ask another server for our bottle of wine, which she delivered without a ice-bucket. We completed our meal with half of our wine. Now we still couldn't get our server, so we walked to the front to pay our bill and our server miraculously appeared. By this time we were furious, a beautiful sunset dinner destroyed by BAD Customer service. Our complaint to the manager was met with a " we are sorry, but we cannot turn back time to fix the problem" We hope that the head-office of this franchise sees this review and does something about this location. We have visited many of these outlets and have NEVER had such bad service. It was ALWAYS a pleasure to eat at the franchise. This evening we decided on having seafood for supper. We visited OB at harbour island. Firstly we entered around the back and there was staff at the door. We then found a seat and waited more than 5mins to be helped. I lifted my hand... to draw the attention of a waiter. She asked me if I was helped yet and I said no. Then she told me Mam which way did you enter from and I said the back. She advised me to enter in future from the front. Guess what there was so many patrons who entered from the back and was helped once seated... so I dony know why we were told to enter infront! We ordered a starter and main , I informed the waiter u can put both items through and then once the starter is out u can bring the main. The starter came out drenched in so much oil! Few minutes later another waiter came and asked me what time they can prepare our platter- I said that I've indicated it should come out not long after the starter. We then waited on our platter, but besides that I had to ask twice for a teaspoon for the chili and garlic bowls. Thereafter the platter arrived no big spoon with it to dish the stir fry. The platter too was oily-I didnt enjoy it at all! So I ask another waiter to bring more chillies, he brought it on a new plate. I then asked him to remove the other plate. Guess what he take it and lifted the plate which I am eating out and placed the dirty plate under mine. I just remained calm coz how the yell do u lift a patrons plate whilst busy eating.. The service was very poor. We asked for a glass of water with our drinks and it never came, eventually half way through the meal we asked again and the water came. The milkshake and prawns were good but the rest of the food was... terrible, salad was floppy and not crisp, muscles were the size of my tiny nail and the calamari steak was rubbery we could not eat it. The table and restaurant was dirty. I was very disappointed as it was a family reunion and when I complained to the manager, she just shrugged her shoulders. The waitress saw that the calamari was untouched and they didn't offer to replace or take off the bill. Very very disappointed. Bill came to almost R1200 More

We were a group of 12 (family) and instead of being greeted with smiles and accommodating attitudes it became a dispute between the staff "in front of us" whether or not they would be helping us. Eventually we were seated and told they will only... be giving us two umbrellas as they would use the other ones for the next tables to come. "So basically stuff us because they are more worried about people who haven't even arrived yet". Then the rude disgusting manager or owner "i think greek lady" was shouting telling them not to give us an extra umbrella. It was boiling and we were forced to sit in the heat while there was an empty table with extra umbrella open. My brother eventually got up to get the umbrella himself. The food was ice cold when it reached us and no one enjoyed it. Not one of the staff members were apologetic for the disgusting service given to us and we will never ever return. What's worse is it was the first time in years that all the family was together and this was our only lunch together for the year and it was completely ruined. I will warn everyone I know about this place. Don't go! The views are great but the rest is disgusting! More

Enjoyed our family meal very much. Huge variety on menu and food very well presented. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Oysters,mussels,calamari and just about anything you wanted was on offer.

I've been a regular visitor to this particular Ocean Basket for many years. Last time I went I was disappointed with the quality of food but I nonetheless returned this time hoping it was just a 'one off'. Sad to say it was not. My... meal this time bordered on inedible. I am used to the total lack of welcome by the owners and just put it down to their personality because as a previous poster commented, they deliver you to your table and you are looked after by usually friendly staff. We ordered the Ships Platter which consisted of calamari (cooked 3 different ways) and Kingklip. Some of the calamari had been deep fried to almost extinction and the others rather bland. The Kingklip was an embarrassment to look at on the plate, if it was Kingklip. A tiny thin piece of fish. Finally on the plate was some creamed spinach and butternut squash. These were cold, just like the rest of the food, and the butternut lumpy, not even mashed properly. It truly was my worst meal in a long time and I reflected on my decision to revisit after my previous disappointment. There are so many good restaurants a short drive away that serve decent hot and tasty food. This was far from cheap by local standards. The setting is great and I would have to say that the few tables that were occupied speaks a multitude. This was always a busy place. The owners need to have a serious rethink about who is 'front of house' so that patrons receive a warm and friendly welcome. There appears to be a complacency that suggests they assume they're serving good food. They're not, and need to tackle this quickly to address serious shortcomings in a place that was excellent just a couple of years ago. More

A great restaurant with good food and good service. Situated in the yacht harbour in Gordon's Bay. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is extremely child friendly.

We arrived after 8 on Saturday night and ordered sushi and mains (they told us they were closing soon). The food was absolutely great.... most tender prawns and calamari! Although the poor waitress forgot our drinks order, she gave us good service at the end.... Always good value for money!!! Tonight we ordered deserts for take away and again it was fantastic!!! More

on 18th October we visited this branch again, which was our favourite for a very long time. This time however, very different experience. There were very few patrons when we arrived but lots of waitrons standing around, we ordered our drinks and after almost 30... minutes, we called the manageress and complained, she then told us that it took time because we all had different orders...food also took forever and again, another excuse was because the mezze platters took longer to make. This was our last visit, they will not see us again. More

Gordon's Bay

Gordon's Bay is a suburb of greater Cape Town, and on the east side of the Strand . it is situated between False Bay and the foot of the Hottentots Holland mountain range. This seaside town offers visitors a variety of activities and attractions in the immediate vicinity and within a short drive which include Cape cuisine and fine scenery.

• Saiking cruises : Gordon's Bay Yacht Club is in the old harbour - you can take a sunset cruise on a sailing yacht; relax and sip wine; and watch the evening glitter of the ocean whilst listening to water lap the side of the boat. Other options include deep-sea fishing trips or a simple boat ride. One can also enjoy fresh seafood at the Old Harbour at its restaurants.
• Neaco : If you are planning on spending some time out in the sun, Gordon’s Bay is has long stretches of white, sandy beaches. Here one can enjoy peace of mind with safe and protected bathing, though it may be windy in summer. The beaches are suitable for sunbathing, snorkeling, jet and water skiing, surfing, volleyball, sailing and rubber ducking (riding small inflatable powerboats). Several cafes, restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and curio shops can be found along the beachfront in the form of the Gordon’s Bay beachfront promenade.

Nearby, to the south of the old harbour, is the smaller and more secluded Bikini beach where you can enjoy a safe and protected swim and enjoy the sunshine. Other beaches in the area include Melkbaai, Sunset Beach and Kogel Bay.

• Fishing charters : You can charter a fishing boat or angle from the breakwater or shoreline. You might even catch some fish.
• Scuba diving is available when the weather permits, which is mostly in summer in Gordon's Bay, but there are some good days most seasons. There are scuba diving schools in Gordon's Bay and in the surrounding area where one can be trained and certified. There is often somewhere within a day-trip range where the conditions will be suitable for diving, from the Cape Peninsula to Hermanus . Do not be put off by the wind if it is from the southeast, the diving is often at its best during or after offshore south easterly winds, and the dive sites are almost all close inshore where it is sheltered from the wind below the steep mountainside. The dive sites are all on rocky reefs and are suitable for all levels of diver.
• Golf : There are nine golf courses within about a half hour's drive: Pearl Valley, De Zalze at Spier, Stellenbosch, Devonvale, Somerset West, Strand, Erinvale, Bosch-en-Meer and Arabella.

Ordinary day to day goods and some souvenirs are available within the town, and a much larger range a little further afield at Strand and Somerset West. The County Craft Market has more than two hundred stalls, and offers its customers a diverse range of handcrafted arts and crafts. Somerset Mall, a fifteen-minute drive from Gordon’s Bay, is a large upmarket shopping mall with a large range of supermarkets and boutiques.

Harbour Island, the waterfront development, offers several restaurants – which include Snappers Restaurant, Dutch Bar, and the Star Fish Café – one can enjoy a light lunch, have an early evening drink, or dine adjacent to the sea. All of these lively or intimate venues are tailored to cater for an international clientele.

Joran at glance, welcome to gordons bay boat angling club.

The first outing as a club took place on Saturday 17 November 1968 together with the Cape Boat & Ski-Boat Club. Launching was supposed to take place at 04:30 from Gordon’s Bay Harbour but due to a strong South Easter the boats held back. However, at 05:30 the wind slacked off and with high spirits the anglers set off.

Gordon’s Bay Boat Angling Club took part in their first competition against Peninsula Ski Boat Club on 23 November 1968. 7th December 1968 saw the club hold their first annual Christmas Dinner Dance which was attended by seventy two members and friends. Sunday 2nd February 1969 the club was invited by the Cape Boat & Ski-Boat Club to fish off Cape Point.

At the first Annual General Meeting it was decided to donate two Walkie Talkies to the National Sea Rescue Institute (N.S.R.I) due to their lack of communications on the water. Today GBBAC remains a stern supporter of the NSRI, in particular the Gordons Bay station (Station 9) Gordons Bay Boat Angling Club today takes part in all Western Province Deep Sea Angling leagues and also hosts an annual Offshore Classic and Inshore Classic tournament.

This is apart from various social club angling competitions and other events. Over the years the GBBAC has gone from strength to strength and today boasts a beautiful clubhouse in Harbour Island with ample facilities and a membership of 160.
