History of Ferretti Yachts

Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti opened the doors of Ferretti Yachts in Italy in 1968. Initially, the brothers were owner/operators of a luxury car dealership, but an affinity for yachts led to their creation of a 32-foot (10m) motor/sailer that debuted in 1971 at the Genoa Boat Show. The yacht was met with much acclaim and by 1975 the brothers set aside their car business to focus solely on building yachts; and ones that truly revolutionized the industry. Ferretti’s power yachts were complete with stern bridges that opened to cockpits — this had not yet been seen on the market. The brand continues to grow, garnering notable customers such as Sophia Loren, Richard Burton and Brigette Bardot. Since then, the brand has gained notoriety around the world as a leader in yacht building. By the mid-2000s Ferretti’s annual revenue topped $550 million, proving the company’s popularity has never waned. With more than 60 dealers located in 80 different countries around the world, Ferretti boasts a global presence that allows it to serve its customers no matter where they cruise. Throughout the years, Ferretti Yachts has expanded to Ferretti Group by acquiring a variety of other yacht brands, including CRN, Mochi Craft, Riva, Pershing and Itama.

Renowned for its skilled craftsmen and naval architects who are able to produce exceptional yachts based on intensive research in the marine and nautical sectors, Ferretti Yachts are backed by knowledge. The brand’s composite motor yachts feature underwater discharge, F-tdr (Ferretti trim and drag reduction systems), air bags for anchor chains, XFT technology (Cross Fiber Technology), monitoring and control systems (NaviOp and Gi8) and the subversive ARG (Anti-rolling gyros). Recent projects include the Autotrim, an automated system to adjust surface propellers and optimize speed, fuel use and trim and SteerCommand & JMS, which replace traditional hydraulic steering and reduce the steering diameter by half.

Ferretti Yacht Models

Ferretti 450.

The Ferretti 450 is a 46-foot (14m) stylish, comfortable cruiser ideal for day cruising, fishing and generally enjoying life at sea. The yacht features ample spaces for lounging in the sun from the flybridge to the bow. Six guests are accommodated in a master, a VIP and a guest cabin. Each features large windows providing views and natural light. An additional two-cabin layout is available. Both options come with two heads. Diesel engines in 480 or 550mph varieties power the yacht to reach speeds in the upper 20-knot range.

Ferretti 550

The 57-foot (17.3m) 550 flybridge by Ferretti is exceptional from her keel through every interior space. Three beautiful staterooms welcome up to six guests for a sophisticated on-water experience. The Ferretti 550 yacht is able to cruise at 26 knots and run at 30 knots thanks to her twin diesel engines. Powerful and sporty, she is perfect for day cruising and weekends at sea. Her interior spaces are elegant. From her relaxing main salon with high-quality detailing to her lavish formal dining space.

Ferretti 670

The Ferretti 670 is a tech-savvy 66-foot (20.1m) cruiser with incredible style and grace on the water. Unveiled at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival, the 670 is the latest evolution of Ferretti’s mid-range yachts. Replacing the 650, the 670 is a beamier version of its predecessor. Designed by Filippo Salvetti, it is available in a three- and four-cabin layout — all staterooms are en-suite in the three-cabin layout; the fourth cabin does not have an en-suite. The lavish interior offers a split-level main deck and large windows. The yacht’s spacious exterior features a 260-square-foot flybridge and a foredeck with a lounge that includes a sunpad, sofas, sunshade and more.

Ferretti 720

The newest evolution in the Ferretti family, the 720 is a 73-foot (22.2m) beauty, which moves away from the brand’s more traditional aesthetics to showcase a brand-new look. The 720’s sleek, sporty look is enhanced by a large salon window and the unique curve of the superstructure. The flybridge harkens back to traditional Ferretti good looks and the equilibrium of old and new creates perfection. Four staterooms welcome up to eight guests aboard and one crew cabin is available.

Ferretti 780

Ferretti’s 780 is a 78-foot (23.7m) stunner. A collaborative design with Zuccon International Project, she joined the Ferretti family in 2016, replacing the 750. This beamy beauty features an open layout as the bridge flows to the galley, which flows into the main salon ensuring entertaining is a breeze. A door can close the bridge off from the rest of the deck if requested. The bridge is extremely high spec and high tech. Four guest cabins, including a full-beam master, two twins (one of which can be converted into a double) and a VIP, all are outfitted for comfort and style.

Ferretti 850

The interior design team of Ferretti joined forces with the Zuccon International Project, which created the exterior, to build the 85-foot (25.9m) Ferretti 850. With an open layout, four below deck staterooms, including a spacious master suite, and accommodations for four crew, this luxury yacht is the height of sophistication. The interior is completely outfitted for comfort and style while the exterior spaces are perfect for enjoying the sunshine — the flybridge’s seating alone is impressive. Able to reach up to 31 knots, the 850 combines performance and impeccable design.

Ferretti 920

The 93-foot (28.3m) Ferretti 920 was built in conjunction with Zuccon International Project. This unique luxury yacht debuted at the 2017 Cannes Yachting Festival. One of her stand-out features is a raised bow that allowed for the master suite to be situated on the main deck. This raised bow is the largest of any in the Ferretti range and features a sunning spot with a dinette and sofas. Added awnings provide shade if desired. Aft, the yacht’s beach club allows easy access to the water. The flybridge has alfresco dining and a full bar for guests to enjoy. Capable of carrying eight guests in the on-deck master and three additional below-deck cabins, as well as three crew, the 920 is ideally suited for entertaining at sea. She also is extremely seaworthy, offering all the performance expected by a Ferretti yacht.

Ferretti 960

The largest of the Ferretti range, the idea behind this 95-foot (28.9m) yacht was to build a yacht with all of the amenities of a 100-foot-plus (30.48m) vessel, but small enough to be classed by the European Union authority a pleasure boat. The 960 fits all these criteria and more. From the main-deck master to the four beautiful staterooms below to the expansive alfresco living areas, the 960 offers exactly what you’d expect on any superyacht. Her garage system, that allows the swim platform to submerge to access the tender and water toys, wows those who wouldn’t expect such capabilities for a yacht smaller than 100 feet (30.48m). Without sacrificing performance for style, the 960 achieves all you’ve come to expect from a Ferretti. She is able to reach 30 knots and cruises at 26.

Brand History

Ferretti Yachts came into being in 1968 when brothers Alessandro and Norberto Ferretti created the first nautical division of the family business, then a specialist luxury car dealership. Three years later, in 1971, at the Genoa Boat Show, their first model, a wooden motor-sailer, was greeted with great acclaim. This 10-metre yacht, equipped with both sails and an engine, was particularly comfortable and safe for leisure cruising. Their intuitive flair enabled Ferretti Yachts to figure on the list of the world’s most prestigious boatyards.

In 1975, the Ferretti brothers decided to abandon cars altogether in order to commit themselves fully to the nautical world and the next decade saw the great leap forward – the switch from sail to engine power. In 1982 the first Ferretti motor-yacht made its debut and the company began producing boats for sport fishing, with an open and flying bridge, bearing witness to all the revolutionary changes that have transformed today’s boat-building industry: the stern bridge, the up-and-over salon windows that open onto the cockpit and the internal corridor from the salon to the flying-bridge.

In the 1990s, Ferretti was dedicated to research and development in nautical engineering with the start-up of the in-house engineering division and winning performances in offshore races. Subsequent years have seen the range increase to its current size, but the story doesn’t end here, as there is constant renewal with state-of-the-art design solutions.

The Italian yachts, Ferretti, are one of the most recognizable yacht brands worldwide and a leader in the pleasure boating industry. They are known for their high performance hulls, the fiberglass sporty flybridge models, their concept of smart design and the pioneering of a numerous number of functional and technical solutions setting new standards for the yachting industry. Ferretti Yachts, a Member of Ferretti Group, is the Group’s historical brand, building flybridge planing yachts in GRP (glass reinforced plastic) measuring 46feet / 14meters to 96feet/ 29meters.

Ferretti yachts began in 1968 when the brothers Alessandro and Norberto Ferretti created the first nautical division of the family business, a specialist luxury car dealership. Three years later, in 1971, their first model, a wooden motor-sailer, was introduced at at the Genoa Boat Show. In 1982 the first Ferretti motor-yacht made its debut and the company began producing boats for sport fishing with an open and fly- bridge arrangement. The 1990’s were dedicated to research and development in nautical engineering with the start-up of the in-house engineering division and winning performances in offshore races.

In 1993, Ferretti of America, Inc. was founded to market motor yachts in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, and the Caribbean. From the second half of the ‘90s, after institutional investors acquired a share in the capital, an expansion strategy for external lines was started through the well-targeted acquisition of companies producing top of the range motor yachts. In 1996, Ferretti began operating in the segment of fiberglass flybridge yachts, measuring from 92feet / 28meters to 131feet / 40meters, through Custom Line.

The group acquired Cantieri Navali dell’Adriatico – CNA S.r.l., specialized in building open motor yachts under the prestigious brand Pershing. In order to further complete its range, in 1999 Ferretti Group acquired C.R.N. S.p.A ., a shipyard specializing in the production of maxi yachts and mega yachts with steel hulls and aluminum superstructures, measuring over 98feet / 30meters in length. In the year 2000, Ferretti purchased 100% of the capital of Riva S.p.A., one of the most prestigious and exclusive shipyards in the world.

In May 2001 the parent company Ferretti S.p.A. acquired some assets of Oram shipyards in La Spezia, where the new Riva production area has been built. In November 2001, Ferretti Group acquired Mochi Craft S.r.l. shipyard in Pesaro. The Group took over Diesse Arredamenti, in order to acquire new skills in the nautical furnishings sector. In line with this strategy, in 2002 the Group also finalized the acquisition of Cantiere Navale Mario Morini in Ancona, enabling CRN to extend its production capacity. Ferretti Group acquired Itama, a prestigious brand specialized in the construction of open motor yachts, completing the range of the Group.

In 2012, Shandong Heavy Industry Group – Weichai Group (“SHIG-Weichai Group”), one of the largest manufacturers of high-speed diesel engines in the PRC and a leading company in the power chain market, acquired the 75% of the share capital in Ferretti Group. Thanks to important investments in R&D, 2015 saw the launch of 6 new models, out of a total of 27 yachts that will be introduced by 2017. In February 2016, FSD (Ferretti Security & Defense) was born. The Group’s new division is active in the design, development and production of a new range of state-of-the-art naval vessels, with characteristics and mission profiles able to provide security, surveillance and defense of international and national waters and coastal areas.

Ferretti yachts are fiberglass, planing hull pleasure yachts set to RINA A CLASS certifications. The Ferretti Custom Line, specializes in the production of fiberglass yachts ranging from 97feet / 30meters to 124feet / 38meters, and Ferretti Navetta, which serves as the brand’s semi-displacement, conforming to the needs for distance cruising without any sacrifice in comfort. The Ferretti Group boosts one of the most advanced production systems and can rely on highly efficient multi-brand plants, based in Forlì, Cattolica, Ancona, Mondolfo, Sarnico and La Spezia.

The Forlì plant, the Group’s Headquarters, is one of the first plants of Ferretti Group where Ferretti Yachts, Itama and Mochi Craft yachts are manufactured. Opened in 2001, the production plant in Cattolica meets the most modern efficiency criteria and provides for simultaneous building of 16 motor yachts measuring from 66feet/ 20meters to 98feet / 30meters. The Mondolfo plant, a futuristic space, was meticulously designed to meet the continuing production developments and the expansion of Ferretti Group’s range, both in terms of number and boat size. The nautical facility in Ancona can accommodate the construction of ships up to 295feet / 90meters. It is a ‘multi-brand’ plant dedicated to the manufacturing of the entire CRN fleet, of some of the Custom Line models and it is also the shipyard where the Riva Super Yachts Division is hosted.

The Sarnico shipyard is the cradle of the Riva history, where its legendary models have been built and where today the brand continues producing hulls from 26feet / 8meters to 66feet / 20meters: Iseo, Aquariva Super, Rivarama Super, Rivale, Sportriva 56’, 63’ Vertigo and 63’ Virtus. The production plant in La Spezia, opened in 2004, has a major strategic industrial, social and environmental role. This shipyard is Ferretti Group’s point of reference as for technical, logistics and sales support in the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian sea area. The La Spezia facility is the plant where the Riva and Custom Line mega yacht are manufactured and delivered.

Over the years Ferretti has introduced innovative solutions which have shaped pleasure yachting worldwide and is the first shipyard to have certified its craft according to the ISO14509 standard two years before it entered into force:

• the up-and-over window between salon and cockpit
• F-tdr (Ferretti trim and drag reduction) systems
• the air bag for anchor chains
• the hull windows
• XFT technology (Cross Fibre Technology)
• monitoring and control systems (NaviOp and Gi8)
• the revolutionary ARG (Anti Rolling Gyros)

Ferretti Group has continued to develop increasingly innovative systems:

• In 2005, Poseidon, the largest 5-axis milling machine in Europe for model building, was inaugurated.
• Smart Command with the Easy Dock and Auto Troll functions
• WEY and Hybrid Propulsion, both systems patented by Ferrettigroup.
• Hybrid Propulsion is a highly innovative system which includes five operating modes; it is the first system ever to have allowed for navigation at “Zero Emission Mode” on a yacht longer than 20 meters.
• Autotrim, an automated system to adjust surface propellers and optimize speed, fuel use and trim
• SteerCommand & JMS which replaces traditional hydraulic steering and reduces the steering diameter by half.

Ferretti classes

Ferretti's lineup consists of three main classes, including flybridge yachts, open deck models and classic yachts. The latter is available in versions from 15 to 29 meters in length. The flagship of the Italian shipyard at the moment is model 960. The yacht has five cabins with luxurious decoration and is equipped with high-performance engines (almost 2700 horsepower). Another star in the Ferretti line is the ultra-compact 450th model with three cabins.

43m Pershing fast motor yacht Chorusline for sale

The 43.3-metre fast motor yacht Chorusline is newly listed for sale with Charles Carveles of Edmiston .

Delivered from the renowned Italian builder of fast yachts, Pershing , in 2019, this Pershing 140 is constructed of aluminium and was fully repainted in 2023. Her design is by Fulvio De Simoni with interior by Italprojects and naval architecture by Ferretti Engineering Department.

Chorusline is described by the broker as "like new" as she has only ever been used as a dayboat and her beds never slept in.

Accommodation for a party of 10 guests is arranged over four cabins, comprising a master suite, a double cabin and two twins with additional Pullman berths. There are quarters for a crew of seven in four cabins.

Presently, the main-deck owner's suite is used as an entertainment space with a dining room, bar and cinema room, connected to the saloon. This could easily be converted back to a cabin, all the plumbing and infrastructure being in place. Textured wooden panelling adorns the interior bulkheads, contrasting with dark wooden flooring, while abstract chrome sculptures and green items of furniture give the spaces a sparkle.

Her expansive sundeck sports a Jacuzzi and sunpads forward, an al fresco dining area, bar and ample space to lounge about, all protected by an awning. At sea-level, the fold-down hull openings and large swim platform make for a spacious open-plan, teak-decked beach club from where water toys may be embarked, the whole area easily reached via twin transom staircases from the aft deck.

Four 2,600hp engines, with less than 700 hours on them, give the 380GT low-draft, yacht for sale a top speed of 38 knots and the ability to accelerate from rest to 35 knots in under a minute.
