This CAL 36 is a classic, and has had a long and illustrious life on the water.

This sailboat has been in the seller’s family since 1973. Always well-maintained and cared-for, this cruiser is in good shape for her age. She has been in saltwater since 2015, and is ready for the next adventure.

With two berths in the bow, a double berth in the aft cabin and room for two in the salon, this boat will sleep six adults.

The galley is equipped with a built-in ice chest and an alcohol stove and oven.

There is a full head with a shower, making this one also a possible liveaboard option.

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Comfort Ratio

The CAL 36 was designed as a fast ,blue water cruiser/ racer, able to qualify for all the ocean races of the time. These boats rarely become available, have a reputation for ease of handling and were built to last.

When I visited this version I was struck by the often heard phrase, 'they don't build them like they used to'. This boat gives that impression of a generously laid up hull, with neat woodwork throughout the interior. The cockpit is spacious and deep and moving forward was effortless to access the foredeck and anchor locker. There are plenty of halyard winches at the mast, which compliment a tidy running rigging plan. Down below there are six berths, two of which can be found in the separate forward cabin. The galley is well positioned and designed for preparing meals both at sea and when in harbour. The current owner has carefully maintained the boat, including investment in new sails and navigation aids, alongside a comprehensive engine service in 2019. For anybody looking for a capable blue water cruiser, with a good reputation and attractive lines, this boat is worth considering. Alternatively, the boat would be just as at home cruising coastlines or participating in club racing. This is my 1984 25th Anniversary Special Edition Cal 24' Sailboat with tandem axle galvanized trailer I have owned the boat for the last several years and it has seen little use in that time. The boat is in good shape for its age. The following work was done within the last two years I have owned it. Please review all pictures. I have detailed pictures unlike most showing 5 pictures.
