To paraphrase the late Ella Fitzgerald, “It isn’t where you’ve been; it’s where you’re going that counts.” And when it comes to I-Nova , the 165-foot explorer yacht built for “uncompromising adventure,” that place is anywhere in the world. Now, it needs to find that place—or many places.

Built in 2013, the first of the Cosmo Explorer series was an owner’s labor of love who planned to see the remote corners of the world. Unfortunately, that never happened. Now up for sale, the yacht is searching for an owner who will make most use of her expedition hull.

I-Nova ‘s build team had a stellar international cast: A “Made in Italy” interior and exterior by Italian designer Cristiano Gatto. A Dutch collaboration between Vripack and Van Oossanen for the go-anywhere hull. The owner, planning to do an expedition series called the Cosmo Explorer, had the yacht built at Greek shipyard Megatechnica. Experts in the construction of commercial vessels, Megatechnica cut no corners during the five-year build process.

“The owner wanted to show what you could do outside of the Northern European shipyards,” Alex Banning, director at SuperYachtsMonaco, told Robb Report . “It was a project of his own doing, using best-in-class suppliers and builders.”

The result is an ice-class vessel equipped with some serious go-anywhere capabilities. Her vertical bow is hydrodynamically optimized to make her an efficient and long-range cruiser. The hull is reinforced with extra-thick steel plates specifically for polar expeditions. The propeller, sea chest, rudder, steering gear and seawater cooling systems meet ABS DO ice class requirements. And at 165 feet in length, though arguably compact for an explorer, her huge interior volume and shallow draft give her great versatility.

“When the first ideas and concepts emerged in 2009, I-Nova was right on the leading edge of the expedition sector of the market,” says Banning. “The owner wanted to keep it compact and practical, built like a hammer with as much of a silk glove as you can add, with all of those explorer capabilities.”

Included in that concept is what Banning refers to as the “opinion-dividing” rear deck built specifically to store a Fabio Buzzi 34 tender. The semi-enclosed rigid-hulled inflatable is a lasting testament to Buzzi, the owner’s friend, boat builder and racer who died last year in a speedboat crash. The Buzzi tender isn’t included in the sale, but it exemplifies the type of serious vessel that can be accommodated aboard  I-Nova , along with a 5-ton crane with a 30-foot outreach, a second tender and a full range of water toys. Only serious explorers would have space for that many tenders and toys.

“Some people think the Buzzi takes up too much space, but the owner thinks, ‘I’ve built a deck to carry my boat wherever’,” says Banning. “He likes driving it into all the tiny bays and swimming, diving and snorkeling from it. That’s what you can do with a boat deck like that.”

The owner’s original intention was to build an expedition series under the Cosmo Explorer brand. The concept would offer unrestricted cruising on vessels ranging from 148 to 210 feet.

A beach club and dedicated dive room are located on the lower deck. A large terrace for evening drinks is found on the bridge deck. The observation deck offers panoramic views, as well as a covered exterior gym and spa pool. But the wow factor is reserved for the award-winning interior, which includes an extensive use of 50,000-year-old Kauri wood and a split-level master suite that can be used as an observation lounge, homeschooling room or even a cinema.

“Gatto took the lead on the project alongside the owner, which is why the interior and exterior gel so well, and the interior has a quirky yet hugely flexible layout,” says Banning.

Powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M70 engines I-Nova offers low engine noise, low vibration and bags of autonomy. As Banning says, “she’s got great DNA.”

The 49.8 metre motor yacht I Nova , listed for sale by Alex Banning at SuperYachtsMonaco , has seen a price reduction of €3,595,000.

Built by Greek yard Cosmo Explorer , she was delivered in 2013 with stunning interior design and exterior lines by Cristiano Gatto and went on to become a 2014 ShowBoats Design Awards winner for Best Interior.

ABS classed and MCA compliant, she accommodates up to 14 guests in six cabins consisting of a master suite arranged over two decks, two doubles and two twins, all with Pullman berths and all with full en suite bathroom facilities.

A true explorer yacht, she is extremely seaworthy with an ice-classed hull, able to visit all corners of the globe without any compromise on comfort or style. With a range of 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots she is capable of undertaking long-range passages.

Cristiano Gatto took a nonconformist approach to the interior styling of this yacht for sale . His inventive use of diverse materials from 30,000-year-old kauri wood to woven bamboo panels, plus glass, metal and leather work well in terms of contrasting both their textures and their far-flung origins. In respect of the long passages and remote destinations the yacht is destined for, the interior is comfortable, calm and relaxing but with a fair amount of intrigue and visual stimulation brought forth in overheads and lighting.

Other features include an observation deck with gym equipment and a Jacuzzi while twin 1,050hp MTU engines give her a cruising speed of 15.6 knots.

I Nova is now asking €19,900,000 and is lying in Croatia.

I-NOVA // Cosmo Explorer

The greek shipyard cosmo explorer built the 50m i-nova in 2013 to a cristiano gatto design who is responsible for the exterior and interior design..

The yard and designer developed I-Nova as a D0 ice class explorer yacht with extra-thick steel plates and propeller shafts, propellers, sea chests, rudders and steering gear systems, as well as the sea water cooling system to meet the ABS classification requirements .

Cristiano Gatto and his team designed I-Nova for an experienced yacht owner who had own ideas for his perfect yacht. The yacht has five decks with a functional layout, which offers a lot of private space for the owner with a large cabin on the main deck. A private staircase leads to the upper deck with a big private panorama saloon.

Above the Upper Deck is I-Nova ‘s Bridge Deck located which housing a well-equipped wheelhouse and two cabins, one for the yacht’s Captain and the other for the Engineer. The panoramic position of the helm station allows perfect visibility further enhanced by the reversed windows, which eliminate all glares from the dashboard.

A large terrace astern with twin tables and sunbeds is the right spot to have breakfast or to dine under the stars. The loose outdoor furniture on this deck, sunbeds, and armchairs belong to Roda’s Mistral and Network collection in natural teak.

Behind the owners’ upper deck is the big storage deck for tenders, which is equipped with a Fabio Buzzi 34 Semi-enclosed rib tender and a Scorpion 8.5 ST rib tender, which can be lowered with the installed 5-ton crane with 9-meter outreach. The storage deck is also suitable as a party deck.

The guests can find a gym, jacuzzi, and sunbathing area on the observation deck.

Guest Capacity

Spacious and modern, I NOVA has accommodation for up to 14 guests in 6 luxurious cabins including a stunning split-level owner’s suite.

Light and open with a feel of quiet sophistication, the staterooms pair wood panelling with neutral furnishings and custom-made leather accent pieces.

Accessed by a private lobby, the full-beam owner’s suite is located on the main deck of the yacht. Chic and contemporary, the vast cabin is filled with natural light and opens into a spa-style bathroom and adjoining dressing rooms. A private staircase leads to a large salon/study area on the upper deck with breathtaking views of the ocean.

The guest accommodation is made up of a VIP stateroom on the upper deck plus 2 double and 2 twin cabins on the lower deck. An optimised layout enhances the feeling of space in I NOVA’s private quarters and each of the staterooms has ensuite bathroom facilities.

I NOVA also has a staff lounge/dining room and accommodation for a 12-person crew on the lower deck.

Styled by innovative Italian designer Cristiano Gatto, I NOVA won the 2014 Showboats Design Awards for Best Interior. Subtly stylish with a comfortable modern aesthetic, the main living area is finished with a neutral colour palette. Oversized windows fill the space with natural light and accent the precious wood on display throughout the salon and dining room.

The large open-plan salon is the ideal space to kick back and spend time with the family. A cocktail area with a solid Kauri wood bar opens into the lounge which offers multiple seating areas grouped around a wide-screen TV. The salon leads into I NOVA’s elegant formal dining room which features a magnificent custom-made Karui wood dining table for 12.

On the upper deck, I NOVA has an intimate lounge which can also be used as an entertainment room. Finished in contrasting shades of teak, the upper lounge is equipped with a widescreen TV hidden behind sliding panels plus a large seating area.

The lower deck is set up for onboard relaxation with a large indoor beach club and sauna. Finished in teak, this lounge area offers easy access to the water and can be used as a launch pad for I NOVA’s huge collection of water toys.

Featuring a high freeboard combined with a vertical bow, I NOVA cuts a bold silhouette on the water. Designed by Cristiano Gatto, I NOVA’s exterior is deceptively simple with elegantly tapering decks broken up by striking diagonal elements amidship.

With 5 teak-clad decks plus a tank deck, I NOVA has an extremely functional layout. Spacious and open, she was created to offer the ultimate outdoor living experience in all environments with multiple areas for relaxing and socialising.

On the main deck, the covered cockpit is arranged as a lounge space with built-in seating and access to the beach club below. The upper deck haft houses I NOVA’s collection of toys and tenders. A versatile space, this area can also be turned into a vast dance floor when entertaining.

I NOVA’s bridge deck is home to the wheelhouse plus cabins for the captain and engineer. In addition, a large terrace is the perfect setting for a leisurely meal with friends. Up above, the observation deck boasts a covered outdoor gym with a magnificent view plus a fabulous spa pool overlooking the ocean.

Water Toys and Tenders

I NOVA’s toys and tenders are stored in the upper deck’s vast aft area and hauled by a 5 ton crane with a 9-metre outreach. She is sold with a Fabio Buzzi 34 semi-enclosed rib tender and a Scorpion 8.5 ST rib tender plus a full range of the latest water toys.

Expedition yacht I-Nova Cosmo Explorer

The 50-metre motor yacht I-Nova was launched in 2013 at the Greek yard Cosmo Explorer. Graceful in appearance, she has a massive steel case and is able to go into the Arctic water of the Arctic. And despite the fact that the ship belongs to the lowest category in the “ice” classification ABS – D0, it can rightfully be considered one of the most reliable expedition yacht last time.

The development of super-yachts engaged a team led by Cristiano Gatto (Cristiano Gatto Design) for the European customer, which, as acknowledged by the designers themselves, personally suggested most of the ideas implemented when creating a yacht.

I-Nova has five working decks, each of which has its own set of useful spaces for work, relaxation and entertainment. Much attention is paid to the apartment owner, which occupy the entire upper deck and, in addition to a large bedroom with wardrobe and two bathrooms, include a small private salon and study which in the bow of the yacht’s panoramic Windows.

Aft of the upper deck space for storage of tenders and water technology. At the disposal of the owner and his guests at any time can be supplied console type boat rib Scorpion 8.5 ST, 10 meter cabin boat Fabio Buzzi rib 34 and a jet ski.

The top-most deck is the bridge with a magnificent panoramic view and two cabins for captain and chief engineer; aft under the awning are hinged mini-bar, sofas, cocktail tables and sun loungers.

On the main deck level I-Nova is the main salon, dining room and VIP cabin. Aft is an open lounge area with sofas, tables, and a Jacuzzi under the open sky. Hence, in a graceful staircase leads to the lower deck of the yacht, which has a large sports hall and a sauna.

All aboard the I-Nova provides accommodation 12 passengers in six cabins. The crew of the yacht is 10 people.

The ship is equipped with two diesel engines MTU 16V2000M70 power 2 x 1050 HP each, three generators with a capacity of 125 kW, stabilizers zero speed and Kort thruster HPU 130 kW. The maximum speed of the super-yacht is 16.5 knots and a cruise of 13 knots. Fuel on Board is of 125 000 liters and a power reserve at a cruise speed of over 5500 nautical miles (186 km 10).
