Sailing the Greek Isles with SeaDream Yacht Club

by Alicia | Destinations , Travel

seadream yacht club greece

This summer we took what my girls have deemed as one of our “best vacations ever!” We spent a week on the SeaDream 1 with Sea Dream Yacht Club cruising the Greek Islands.  When we returned, I shared What I Wore in Greece on SeaDream Yacht Club and now I have finally had time to put this together for you!

My husband and I first experienced SeaDream Yacht Club in the Fall of 2018 sailing the Costa del Sol of Spain.   You can read more about SeaDream and our experience on that voyage here.   We’ve been dreaming of taking the girls on SeaDream since!

I have always heard how difficult it can be to travel in Greece with all of the ferry transfers and making arrangements on the different islands.  While we have moved locations several times on different trips, it  just seemed like too much coordinating to figure out all the ferry schedules transportation from the ports and then onto the hotels. When I saw that SeaDream Yacht Club had a Greek itinerary, we booked immediately.  I felt extremely good about this decision once I saw hundreds of people lined up at the ports with their suitcases to get on the ferries!  SeaDream Yacht Club is the perfect way to explore the Greek Islands!

Getting there

We flew in and out of Athens on American Airlines from DFW on direct flights and it was super easy. Our fabulous travel agent coordinated VIP arrival for us. We were met at baggage claim, although we, of course carried on! The valet collected our luggage and took us directly to our driver.

Pre-Voyage Time in Athens

We checked into the Grand Bretagne Hotel in the center of Athens. This hotel was originally one of the guest houses for the palace across the street. The Grand Bretagne Hotel has an amazing view of the Acropolis! If you don’t stay here, then you must go for drinks at night when the Acropolis is lit up. Simply stunning!

We chose this hotel because it had a rooftop pool, but it was much too hot to relax by the pool. There are three hotels in this block and they all looked wonderful.  Any of these would be a great choice as this is the perfect location in Athens.

Day 1 in Athens

seadream yacht club greece

Once we checked into the hotel and had breakfast overlooking the Acropolis, we set set out to explore a little bit. It was one of the hottest days this summer in Athens, so we didn’t last very long! We did see the changing of the guards at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier at the Parliament, formerly the Palace, across the street from our hotel. We also walked through the National Gardens on the way to the Panathenaic Stadium which dates back to 4 BC and was the site of first modern day Olympics in 1896.   We then return to the hotel for an iced coffee!

seadream yacht club greece

Our travel agent arranged a Greek food and culture tour of Athens for us this evening. We stopped at two different local restaurants to experience authentic Greek cuisine. The last restaurant was his neighborhood favorite.  I can see why!  Everything we had was just amazing and the service was excellent as well.  Did you know that Greek souvlaki should not be served on a skewer? It should be thinly shaved and in the most delicious homemade pita wrap! Our guide had been a guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is a highly coveted assignment, and gave us great insight into Greek culture and history of Greece and the city of Athens. I cannot recommend this highly enough!

Day 2 in Athens

seadream yacht club greece

We met our tour guide at 8:30 in the morning in the lobby of our hotel for a tour of the acropolis. Again arranged by our travel agent, our guide was extremely knowledgeable. She and her fellow guides were in constant communication so she knew that there were 8 cruise ships in that morning and we should start at the Museum of the Acropolis and end on the Acropolis. I really loved starting in the museum and being able to see all of the artifacts up close so that we went to the top of the acropolis, we had lots of information and background to understand what we were seeing. I would highly recommend doing it in this order!

After our tour, we departed for the port to board the SeaDream 1.

Arrival on SeaDream 1

seadream yacht club greece

As we boarded, we were greeted by the Captain almost all the forward facing staff, offered champagne and a seat in the main salon until we were called to check in.   I was amazed by the number of staff that were still on SeaDream 1 from our first time aboard including the Captain.   Many of the crew have been with SeaDream for 20+ years!  They all seem to love their job and making you feel known and welcome.  Almost everyone knows your name by lunch the next day!

We quickly settled in our staterooms and then watched from the top deck as we sailed away from Athens.    Before dinner, we met again in the grand salon to hear the next day’s itinerary.   Each night we had dinner on the rear deck watching the sunset.   So dreamy!

We visited 6 Greek Islands, each a bit different from the one before but all beautiful!

seadream yacht club greece

Hydra – This beautiful island was our favorite.  The port was charming and filled with great restaurants and shops.  We participated in the excursion for the day which was a walk along a gorgeous path along the cliff to a private beach club where we spent a few hours and had a light lunch of Greek specialties.  The main transportation on Hydra is donkeys!  There is literally only one motor vehicle – the garbage truck!  Friends who have been to Greece several times say that this is their favorite island.  I can certainly see why.  We walked through the port village for a long time just stopping in shops and taking it all in.

seadream yacht club greece

Sifnos – We visited the Church of the Seven Martyrs in the village of Kastro on Sifnos.  It is a gorgeous chapel dedicated to and one of the most photographed location in Greece with it’s white structure and blue domed roof.  There is a little spot to swim below the chapel if it’s not too windy.  My husband and older girls swam and now I wish I had!  We walked back into the village and ate at a darling restaurant that is the very first place after you get out of the taxi. I forgot to get the name!  There are so many cute places that look great!

We also had quite an adventure on this pretty island!  We thought we’d just wander this island and go to one of the villages, Kastro, to see the Church of the Seven Martyrs.  That is a bit easier said than done!  We found a taxi to take us to Kastro but misunderstood the dispatcher and they couldn’t come pick us up when we called to return!  There are only 8 taxis on the island and they will take a max of 4 people so we needed two taxis.  We called each of them and finally got two to come!  The first one that arrived said he would take us all and call the other guy for us!  We hid my youngest as we raced back to the port.  Such a funny memory now but was a bit stressful at the time.  We will never forget when he said “just hide the baby!” in Sifnos!

seadream yacht club greece

Ikaria – This Greek island is known for it’s thermal springs.  We took a taxi to the beach with the springs and enjoyed a little time in the warm springs.  It was crazy how hot the water was coming from the rocks under the water!  Then we went back to the yacht and enjoyed a day on the water swimming and riding jet skis. We were lucky to have Jamie, the Club Director, join us for sunset dinner on the back deck this evening.  It was great to get to know him and hear about his time with SeaDream!  After dinner, we watched Top Gun 2 on the back deck poolside while we sailed to our next destination.

seadream yacht club greece

Patmos – This island was the big reason I booked this itinerary!  We were able to visit the place where Jesus’ disciple John, or St. John, was imprisoned and wrote the Book of the Revelation in the Bible.  In addition to the Cave of the Apocalypse, we went to St. John’s Monastery as well.  This was a special experience for our family because of our faith.  Photos weren’t allowed inside. We were also able to visit the Mansion of Simantiris, the oldest home in Patmos built in 1625.  Stefanos, a direct descendent of the family is now the care taker and our guide. It is filled with family heirloom from the past 400 years.  It was very hot in Patmos.  Be sure to stay hydrated if you go in the Summer.  We we returned to the SeaDream 1 we had lunch and then were treated to a bridge tour with the Captain.  We then spent the day by the pool and relaxing on the top deck on the Balanese Dream Beds with iced coffee and cocktails.

seadream yacht club greece

Milos – There were excursions on Milos that we didn’t participate in we just wanted a relaxing day to explore the port village and to visit the spa on the yacht.  Info about spa here.  We had only a half day here and then began sailing to Mykonos.  After dinner we went by launch in to Mykonos.  It was very crowded and “happening” for sure!

seadream yacht club greece

Mykonos – We went to a private beach club and enjoyed a gorgeous day relaxing on the beach and then lunch at Rouvera Restaruant gorgeous village very much like you think of Greece.  There were lots of great restaurants and fabulous shops ranging from local boutiques to every designer you can imagine!

About SeaDream Yacht Club

SeaDream Yacht Club operates two identical, luxury mega yachts, SeaDream I and SeaDream II,  that spend half the year in the Mediterranean and the other half in the Caribbean. These beautiful yachts have a maximum of 112 passengers and have 99 crew.  SeaDream is known for their incredible, personalized service, exclusive access to special destinations and amazing food.  We were so very pleased with the options for the girls with their food allergies.  There were so many choices each night and Jonathan took care of us each night double checking each dish.  It is their mission to provide a casual yachting experience and exceed expectations. I definitely would say they do this!

I hope this gives you a great understanding of what it is like to have sail with SeaDream Yacht Club.  We can’t wait to book another voyage!

SeaDream expands Greek Isles options in 2025

New 14-day itinerary comprises back-to-back sailings on board seadream i.

Go back to the e-newsletter

SeaDream Yacht Club has added more voyages to its already extensive series of Greek Isles cruises in 2025. The program now includes a 14-night in-depth yachting adventure which is a combination of two brand new Yachting the Greek Isles voyages, exploring 13 Greek ports on board SeaDream I .

The handcrafted itinerary offers a combination of must-visit Greek icons, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and yachting harbours. Guests can immerse themselves in a blend of cultural immersion and scenic beauty, and unwind with opportunities for hiking, beachcombing, and exploring charming local villages.

“We have been exploring the Greek Isles for more than 20 years, and it strikes us how there is always something new to see, somewhere new to discover, and someone new to meet. With this in mind, we have created what we believe to be our most exceptional Greek itineraries to date,” said SeaDream Yacht Club’s Andreas Brynestad .

SeaDream says the decision to further expand its presence in the Greek Isles comes as a direct response to demand. Since founding modern yacht cruising in 2001, the Greek Isles have consistently ranked among the most popular destinations for SeaDream guests.

The two newly added 7-day Yachting the Greek Isles voyages in June and July of 2025 explore both picture-perfect Greek destinations, including several new-to-SeaDream ports.

The voyages feature signature SeaDream experiences such as an overnight stay in Mykonos, or very late-night departure from Santorini, to enable guests to enjoy the beauty of the iconic Greek favourites without the crowds from cruise ships or day-trip visitors.

seadream yacht club greece

“This is the big advantage with small ships. We can go where others can’t, and can do what others don’t – such as avoiding the crowds even on the most popular destinations. There simply is no better way to experience the Greek Isles,” Brynestad said.

The new itineraries are:

Yachting The Greek Isles – 29 June 2025 The 7-night voyage departs Piraeus and includes Volos with an optional Yachting Land Adventure to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Meteora, as well as Delos, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece, an overnight stay in Mykonos, the beautiful Patmos, as well as a late-night visit to Skopelos, known from the Mama Mia movie.

Yachting The Greek Isles – 6 July 2025

The second Yachting the Greek Isles voyage explores lesser-known destinations, including the picturesque island of Folegandros and the historic port of Symi, unavailable to larger ships. It also includes an evening visit to iconic Santorini, as well as Ios Island, Milos – a beautiful horseshoe-shaped volcanic island known as “The Island of Lovers.” At Kythnos, the yacht will anchor directly off the iconic Kolona beach.

Guests looking to extend further and stay on board for a third consecutive voyage can enjoy even more of the Greek isles, including Hydra, Itea (Delphi), Zakynthos and a bucket-list transit of the iconic Corinth Canal, as well as a visit to Taormina on Sicily, Italy, before ending their adventure on Malta. View that itinerary, departing Pireaus on 13 July 2025 here .

SeaDream Yacht Club fleet

Seadream ii, review of seadream yacht club.

SeaDream Yacht Club (seadream.com) is a privately-owned cruise line company headquartered in Norway (Oslo) . It was established in 2002 by Larry Pimentel and Atle Brynestad. Atle is a Norwegian industrialist and also the founder of the top-luxury brand  Seabourn .

SeaDream's Owner, CEO and Chairman is Atle Brynestad. The company's managing team is led by Bob Lepisto (President) and Andreas Brynestad (Executive VP). In September 2023, as Senior VP of Communications was appointed Rune Thomas Ege (previously employed by Hurtigruten /Group and Expeditions). In January 2024, Walter Littlejohn III was appointed CSO/Chief Sales Officer.

The company's Founder, Owner and Chairman Atle Brynestad (1953-born Norwegian) founded SeaDream Yacht Club and Seabourn Cruise Line as well as the Norwegian retail chain Smart Club AS (1995-founded/2008-acquired by Coop Norge SA) via his company CG Holding (Oslo-based holding company) specializing in investments in the retail trade and renewable energy services. CG Holding's assets include the Porsgrund Porcelain Factory (producing flatware) which is currently the only one in Norway still in operation.

One of the industry's small cruise lines , SeaDream delivers a luxurious, yet unpretentious "yacht cruise" experience in destinations, such as the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Northern Europe. Itineraries are quite flexible and allow the captain to linger in a port of call if passengers wish so, or to depart early in case rain spoils plans. Following the purchase of two luxury cruise ships (operated before that by Cunard ), the new all-inclusive line promoted its innovative style of cruising as "yacht-like". Since its first day of operation, formal wear code is not required as the onboard dress code is officially "resort-casual".

SeaDream Cruises logo - CruiseMapper

In 2022, the company celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a USD 10 million (EUR 8,8M) drydock refurbishment project for both yachts, conducted at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport Bahamas .

Highlights of the luxury brand's sea travel experience are the delicious cuisine, outstanding service, 5-star luxury hotel amenities, sophisticated enrichment program, and exotic itineraries to remote bays and harbors where other cruisers can be rarely seen.

SeaDream Yacht Club is one of the industry's most all-inclusive cruise lines. Its deals are inclusive of gratuities, all beverages (including alcohol and cocktails), all shore excursions and tours, also the equipment at the watersports marina platform, However, passengers have to pay extra for Spa treatments and the ultra-premium liquor brands at the onboard bars/lounges.

SeaDream yacht cruise ship

The following YouTube video is an official SeaDream release about its "top luxury yachting" experience. It shows all the yachts' best features, including suites as configurations/furniture and cabin amenities, all the sophisticated relaxation, entertainment and dining options on the ship, along with the onboard facilities and activities.

SeaDream cruise passengers are sophisticated, laid-back, well-heeled and well-traveled. Ages range largely, starting from guests in their 30s. Solo travelers and occasional large groups of family and friends are not uncommon, though couples predominate.

SeaDream fleet

SeaDream's current fleet includes the yachts  SeaDream 1 (1984-built as "Sea Goddess I"),  SeaDream 2 (1985-built as "Sea Goddess II") and  SeaDream Innovation (2021 September, newbuild on order ). However, in December 2019, the company canceled the SeaDream Innovation shipbuilding project and announced that a second-hand vessel will be eventually purchased in 2020.

All shipboard meals are open-seating, with many 2-seat tables available, making the brand a great choice for romantically inclined travelers. Weather permitting, dining is available on the yacht's open deck. Expensive Champagnes are poured generously. There is a weekly Champagne Splash party with caviar. Another unique offer on the yachts is the "sleeping under the stars" experience. It includes either an 8-person bed (on ship's open deck forward) or a double Balinese lounger facing the sea (aft of the "Top of the Yacht Bar").

In 2023, SeaDream announced plans to upgrade its yachts with shore power connectivity . SeaDream 2 was upgraded in 2023, while SeaDream 1 in 2024.

(Coronavirus crisis) Passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, SeaDream yachts suspended passenger shipping operations in the period March 18, 2020, through July 2021 .

Operations were planned to resume on September 7, 2020, but SeaDream started a mini-cruise program in Norway (June-September 2020) with 12-day Norwegian coastal itineraries between Oslo and Tromso on the superyacht SeaDream 1. SeaDream 1 restarted on June 26 (Mediterranean from Seville). SeaDream 2 restarted on June 26 (Greek Islands from Athens).

In early-November 2020, following a COVID outbreak on SeaDream 1, the company canceled the Caribbean 2020 winter program. All affected bookings received full refunds transferred as FCC (future cruise credit) with rebooking.

In August 2020, SeaDream introduced the "Ultimate Booking Assurance". The new policy guarantees a full monetary refund or 120% FCC for all bookings on voyages departing between July 22, 2020, and June 30, 2021, in case that the cruise is affected by travel restrictions from the customer's country of origin. Rebooking SeaDream cruises with rescheduling the initial booking is allowed even for not affected by travel restrictions voyages.

Itinerary of SeaDream Yacht Club

Currently, the company owns and operates two superyachts/sisterships - SeaDream I (1984-built) and SeaDream II (1985-built). SeaDream Innovation was a newbuild on order , planned for delivery and inauguration in September 2021. However, in December 2019, the company canceled the shipbuilding project and announced its intentions to instead acquire a second-hand vessel.

Cruises 2024-2025-2026

In December 2022, SeaDream Yacht Club announced its Caribbean 2025 schedule of both boats. The itineraries included exotic islands like Mayreau , Bequia , Prickly Pear, and Puerto Rico's uninhabited Culebrita Island, among many others.

Greek Isles 2025

In February 2024, SeaDream Yacht Club announced the expansion of its Greek Isles cruises in 2025. Among the additional offerings is a 14-night in-depth yachting adventure, a standout feature in the series. This 14-night voyage seamlessly combines two new Yachting the Greek Isles itineraries, presenting guests with the opportunity to explore 13 distinctive Greek ports aboard the all-inclusive luxury yacht  SeaDream I .

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the itinerary blends iconic Greek landmarks, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and picturesque yachting harbors. Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a harmonious blend of cultural discovery and scenic marvels, while also indulging in activities like hiking, beachcombing, and exploring charming local villages.

The newly introduced 7-day Yachting the Greek Isles voyages in June and July 2025 promise unparalleled exploration of classic Greek locales, including several ports not previously visited by SeaDream.

These voyages offer signature SeaDream experiences such as overnight stays in  Mykonos  and late-night departures from  Santorini , allowing guests to savor the allure of these iconic destinations free from the crowds typically associated with cruise ships and day-trippers.

The Yachting The Greek Isles voyage departing on June 29, 2025, includes visits to  Volos ,  Delos , Mykonos,  Patmos , and  Skopelos , among other enchanting destinations.

Similarly, the July 6, 2025 voyage features lesser-known gems like  Folegandros  and  Symi , along with popular sites such as Santorini and  Milos , renowned for its unique volcanic landscape.

Guests opting for a third consecutive voyage can indulge in an extended exploration of the Greek Isles, with additional stops at  Hydra ,  Itea ,  Zakynthos , and a memorable transit of the  Corinth Canal , before concluding their journey in Malta.

In addition to the 2025 offerings, SeaDream I and  SeaDream II continue to explore the Greek Isles in 2024 and beyond, reaffirming SeaDream Yacht Club's commitment to delivering exceptional yachting experiences in this captivating region.

Looking ahead to 2026, SeaDream Yacht Club plans to return to the Greek Isles with an array of new ports of call and the introduction of 14-day in-depth slow travel voyages, promising even more immersive experiences for discerning travelers.

Mediterranean 2026

SeaDream Yacht Club's Mediterranean 2026 program (May through September) groups 27 voyages, 82 ports (including 7 new call ports) in 14 different countries as well as the brand's first 2-week-long itineraries.

Two 14-day itineraries (themed "Grand Mediterranean & Adriatic Explorer") visit iconic Med destinations like Corsica Island (France), Malta (Valletta Harbour), Italy's Sicily Island (Taormina), Capri Island (Marina Grande) and Venice City. Overnights are scheduled for ports in Italy (Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri), Croatia (Hvar), Balearic Spain (Ibiza Town), and France's Cassis and Sanaray-Sur-Mer.
