What our clients say.

"It was great – yacht was in very good condition and we enjoyed a lot. Weather was very sunny and hot. We visited 2 key destinations which we liked: Rosendal and Lysefjord with the climb to the pulpit rock. Overall impression was very positive, special thanks to you for being helpful and responsive on all questions."

“All perfect. Rich boat equipment for both navigation and life. Friendly weather. Sun first week, wind the second, and some drop of rain to remember us our latitude. Thanks to all”

"Our trip to Norway was absolutely outstanding. The landscape is stunning, the people incredibly friendly and welcoming, the sailing fantastic. The students responded with great courage and a spirit of adventure to each experience we threw at them. The boats were in good shape and met our expectations in every way. Thank you for all of your support, you were integral to a positive and smooth charter experience. All said, it was a remarkably positive experience and one we hope to replicate in a few years.”

"Karla and I had a wonderful trip on a great little boat, “Arctic Babe”, and your company provides a first class service to a most beautiful area of the world. Again many thanks."

"We had an amazing adventure, it's such a beautiful place to sail and the people are so kind and helpful! The Arctic Sky was dry, warm and spacious above all easy to handle and very pleasant to sail. I'm planning to come again."

“Yes, we had a great trip! We made it to the north cap and back within the week. Except one day with clouds, some fog and rain, the weather was also great. It’s such a great area for sailing that I really missed some more days to stop and look around. But this might be a good justification to come back again."

"Our trip was beautiful. We had good weather and always excellent seafood. Norway is a fantastic country."

"The holiday went perfectly. Excellent navigation, boat in perfect order as well as people to check in and check out."

"Our charter experience was lovely. Rune was the best fit for our trip. What a genuine and thoughtful skipper. We were pleased with the boat and your operation overall."

"We really have had a wonderful holiday in Norway. North nature is wonderful and there are so many cute places in this country. Our friends have only great emotions, so we all thank you for your kind assistance."

"Very enjoyable, thank you. The scenery was fantastic with the fjords, mountains, patches of snow and painted houses, and it was really relaxing, sailing from place to place - tying up in small harbours or dropping anchor in peaceful lagoons. The boat, equipment and support was excellent. Really memorable, and suited us perfectly."

Experienced sailors can charter a boat and navigate the beautiful islands and fjords. Set your own itinerary and travel at a comfortable leisurely pace that suits you.

Skippered charters are ideal for beginners, people who love the sea but don’t sail or anyone looking for an experienced skipper to take full control of the yacht.u.

Norway’s landscapes remain consistent with dramatic beauty and pristine cruising grounds.

The best things to see and do during a luxury yacht charter in Norway

The lofoten archipelago.

One of the most popular is the Lofoten archipelago, where rugged pinnacles like Svolværgeita jut out from the sea. Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is possibly the most striking fjord on earth, with deep blue waters, towering peaks and a plethora of waterfalls. You will not want to miss this fairytale-like scenery while on your luxury yacht charter. These landscapes will be reminiscent of classic Norwegian imagery, with towering peaks and pristine, quiet waters.

Outdoor activities

Your Norway yacht charter will never be without entertainment, as this Scandinavian country offers plenty for outdoor exploring. Not far from Stavanger is the city of Bergen, famed for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bryggen. This row of colorful buildings is a stunning sight you will not want to miss. The quaint tea rooms and gourmet fish restaurants are also hot areas to check out while ashore. Explore the Hardangerfjord for breathtaking views that never get old, and afterward, head back to the decks of your luxury yacht for an evening cocktail while you and the other guests reminisce about the day’s adventures. Children will fall in love with the Fløibanen funicular railway that connects the city center with the mountain. This scenic excursion is fun for all ages, and the large windows in the train car offer unbeatable views.

Jostedalsbreen National Park

For those looking for a rugged activity on land, head to Jostedalsbreen National Park for a hiking paradise. This site offers many routes for navigators, experienced and inexperienced, to cater to all levels. For an even more unique and thrill-seeking adventure, head to Kjerag mountain and teeter on Kjeragbolten, a rock wedged tightly in the mountain’s crevasse suspended above a 3,228′ (984m) gorge. The Sognefjord region is known for being the largest and deepest fjord in Norway and for its high-quality berries, lamb, and goat cheese.

Finally, after days spent exploring the awe-inspiring Norwegian terrain, head to the country’s capital, Oslo, to experience cosmopolitan city life. Visit the Oslo Opera House and Vigelandsparken Sculpture Park to admire the installations by international artists. Oslo’s modern and contemporary downtown area offers an endless selection of local restaurants, bars, and nightlife.

When is the best time to visit Norway aboard a luxury yacht?

The best time to visit Norway aboard a luxury yacht is from May until late September. Spring is a wonderful time to visit; you’ll see Norway at its finest, when everything starts to turn green, yet the mountains are still snow-capped. Summer is also an excellent time to visit, when you’ll enjoy sun-soaked, blissfully long days ideal for cruising the fjords and enjoying a myriad of outdoor pursuits. To view the Northern Lights, head to Norway in September, when the dark nights are ideal for seeing this superb natural phenomen, and the weather is not too cold.

Can I see the Northern Lights in Norway?

Yes, it’s possible to view the Northern Lights in Norway, also called the Aurora Borealis. The best time to see the Northern Lights is during Spring (March/April) and Fall (September/October), although it is possible to see aurora activity during November, December, January, and February when Mother Nature puts on a spectacular light show. The peak viewing time is between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., when the sky is clear and dark.

Southern Norway: In the southern parts of Norway, including cities like Oslo and Bergen, average temperatures in the summer (June to August) typically range from around 15°C to 20°C (59°F to 68°F). In winter (December to February), average temperatures usually range from around -2°C to 2°C (28°F to 36°F), but can drop lower, particularly in inland areas.

Northern Norway: In the northern regions of Norway, such as Tromsø and Kirkenes, temperatures tend to be colder. Summer temperatures may range from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F) on average, while winter temperatures can drop significantly, often reaching below freezing. In some areas, winter temperatures can drop well below -10°C (14°F) or even lower.

Coastal areas in Norway generally experience milder winters compared to inland regions, thanks to the moderating influence of the ocean. However, they can also experience more precipitation.

Can I enjoy a bareboat charter in Norway?

While it is certainly possible to enjoy a bareboat charter in Norway, Northrop & Johnson only specializes in crewed yacht charters.

What wildlife can I see on a private yacht charter in Norway?

Norway’s nutrient-rich waterways and forested mountains ensure a wonderful array of wildlife, including several species of whales, such as sperm whales, minke whales, humpbacks, and killer whales.

Other wildlife includes:

  • Polar Bears
  • Arctic foxes
  • White-tailed eagles
  • Eurasian Lynx

Are you fascinated by the ancient, mysterious world of the Vikings? Well, you can get close to it with a heavenly yachting cruise to the western Scandinavian country of Norway.

With its dramatic fjords, pristine landscapes, exquisite coastal scenery, the Midnight Sun, and deeply evocative culture and history, Norway lives up to its top billing as a truly fascinating travel destination.

What better jumping-off point than Bergen? You cannot help but be impressed. It’s one of a kind — not only is it the southern gateway to the kingdom of the fjords, it is Norway’s ancient capital, and stunningly beautiful to boot. Located on the southwestern coast, it is surrounded by mountains and fjords guaranteed to take your breath away.

There’s an extensive list of activities on offer: glacier walking, fishing on a working whale boat, kayaking, rafting, golfing at one of several first-class golf centres, and horseback riding in remote and wild landscapes. Not to mention the popular pastime of hiking in some magnificent mountains, or opting for a cable-car ride to get a bird’s eye views of the town, the jagged peaks, the fjords... You can even sample whale-meat stew!

There are enough exhilarating adventures to keep you entertained for months. Little wonder that visitors keep returning. You’re guaranteed to fall in love with Bergen’s charms.

Bergen is a yacht-lover’s paradise, strategically situated as it is between two imposing fjords: Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord. Hardangerfjord is dubbed the queen of fjords for its unspoilt beauty, while Sognefjord can boast of being the largest natural fjord in the world.

Cruising between the imposing cliffs, past emerald green clearings and pretty coastal towns cannot but overwhelm you, offer hours of ultimate relaxation and a multitude of sweet memories.

Flam reflects the adage that dynamite comes in small packages. You will quickly be seduced by the charms of this tiny village, certainly one of Norway’s most dramatic and spectacular sites.

Close your eyes and imagine myriad waterfalls, deep valleys, steep cliffs, seals, eagles, frothy local beer, log fires in cheerful restaurants, reindeer stew, fresh salmon, and dazzlingly beautiful hiking trails.

Take a trip on the impressive Flåm Railway or explore the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord. Your view will be one of perfectly transparent, turquoise water, playful porpoises, jagged cliffs, snow-capped mountains, rushing waterfalls and soaring seagulls.

You may have to pinch yourself as reminder that it’s the 21st century and you’re on a luxury yachting vacation — not a medieval quest on a Viking ship.

Whether you choose to hike the trail to the top of Brekkefossen waterfall, visit the railway museum, take a ride on the famed railway or sample freshly caught salmon from pure mountain rivers, you are sure to be bewitched by this tiny village in its grand surrounds.

There are scores of reasons to include Olden in your northern yachting adventure, but here’s a great one for starters: the Briksdalsbreen glacier hike. You will be rewarded with panoramic views, gushing waterfalls, a shimmering lake left behind by the retreating glacier, verdant forests and wonderfully fresh air.

The joy of arriving in Olden on your own luxury yacht is the icing on Norway’s cake. You will be spared the nuisance of tourist throngs, guided tours and manic picture snapping.

On your yachting vacation, you can enjoy the magnificent sites with exclusivity, discernment and tranquillity.

Visit the famous Briksdalen glacier, a magnet for visitors drawn by its setting between roaring waterfalls and high peaks. Located in Jostedalsbreen National Park, you can visit the glacier on foot or catch a ride with one of the so-called “trollcars”. The hike takes less than an hour, is only moderately strenuous and well worth the effort. You can rest along the way and take a breather on one of the many benches dotted along the route.

Kick back and feast your eyes on rainbows above the waterfall mist, sunlight reflecting from the glacier, snow-capped mountains and the glacial lake. You can rent a rubber raft to get really close to the glacier, or take a boat trip on Lake Leon for unrivalled serenity and isolation —it’s very likely that your boat will be the only one on the whole lake.

Briksdal glacier, Kjenndalen glacier, Kleivafossen waterfall, and cycling and kayaking on the Nordfjord will conspire to keep you in Olden for quite some time, but the spectacular Geiranger fjord is beckoning you… Hop aboard your yacht and keep moving.

Did you know you could walk behind a waterfall? Well you can — at Storseterfossen in Geiranger. And if that is not unique enough for you, taste the unusual blue-cheese chocolate in the area. This is just the beginning of Geiranger’s appeal.

A village in the western part of Norway, Geiranger is an area of steep mountains, emerald-green grass, deep fjords, pastoral sheep and unmatched vistas.

You can lounge on the deck of your yacht and, in comfort and leisure, watch this movie unfold in front of you, or take a three-hour trip up to the Dalsnibba Mountain Plateau to catch some fabulous bird’s eye views.

The waterfalls, with icy-cold water from glaciers and mountain snowcaps, add to the dramatic beauty of the panoramas. Cruising along the fjord, you can feast your eyes on the famous Seven Sisters waterfall. Or even visit the Knivsfla mountain farm, one of a handful of historic farms on the steep mountainsides along the Geirangerfjorden.

Abandoned since the 1600s, it will afford you a glimpse into a bygone age in an isolated Scandinavian setting.

When you need to warm the cockles, sample some of Geiranger’s culinary delights. For hearty meals with traditional local ingredients, visit the recommended Brasserie Posten; for unusual chocolate tastes and flavours, Geiranger Sjokolade is the ideal spot to pick up a few gifts for your friends and family, and when it comes to toasting your good fortune and your gorgeous surrounds, try the delectable local beers and ales found in most of the Geiranger’s restaurants.

Feel free to contact your Abberley charter broker here or call us with any questions you may have . We’ll help you achieve your dream — a fascinating yachting vacation in Norway or any other yachting hotspot in Europe or anywhere in the world.

  • NORWAY Luxury Yacht Charter

Cruise Arctic Circle, Lofoten, Norway Fjords and Oslo

Luxury yacht charter in Norway is a very special, unique experience. Exploring some of the most sensational scenery available on the planet, be it in the Arctic Norway on board of MY LEGEND, the iconic 77m giga yacht with two helicopters, a team of experts and a submarine or elsewhere it is equally as unforgettable. The adventure seeking yacht charter clients will be as mesmerised cruising in the Oslofjord between the Færder lighthouse and Langesund with MY IN EXCESS or indeed within the immensely beautiful Lofoten archipelago on board of MY DAYDREAM as in the remote Arctic. The natural scenery of the country is breathtakingly beautiful coast is a perfect setting not just for a usual summer vacation, but also for sailing and skiing at the same time, a simple cruise around the deepest Fjords in the world or for the active ones, hiking, wildlife observation, climbing, fishing and much more. The contrast between the low lying lands, usually inhabited or used by locals for their own lifestyle’s and business and the steep mountain peaks are indeed not easy to describe . Arctic Circle and Lofoten: When it comes to choosing a region where to spend your summer yacht charter holiday in the Norway, the choice is between four distinguishable regions. The afore mentioned Arctic circle is a truly magical place. Lofoten archipelago is lying just within the circle too, giving the area so many different options in terms of yacht charter vacation. The land of the Midnight sun as it is otherwise known, the North Cape area of Arctic circle is accessible only during certain periods when daylight is available or when your ship can access the surrounding waters where you can see thousands of islands, plethora of sheltered fjords with the steep mountains as well as miles and miles of open seas. The area between the North Cape as the most northern point of Europe and the Tromso or northern most part of Lofoten peninsula is perfect for adventurous cruising of a lifetime and unique activities such as skiing, hiking, climbing and the usual ones of sailing, kayaking, fishing or simple wildlife observation.

Unless you can afford to charter the one and only ice-breaking MY LEGEND and are keen to go Svalbard or as far North as possible, the choice of super yachts available for yacht charter here will be extremely limited however. Regardless, choosing to visit at a time when Aurora Borealis occurs, in the winter, can be one option, otherwise, the peak of the summer when daylight extends through the Polar night is another. Whatever the choice, you will encounter a magnificent, completely untouched countryside with immense snow and ice peaked mountain backdrops. The same can also be said for the much more popular Lofoten which have the same dramatic contrast between low lying coast and huge mountain peaks but which are exposed to Gulf Stream warmth more than other parts of this remote region. This contributes to a very rich wildlife, including the world’s largest deep water coral reef, the Rost Reef where temperatures are above freezing even during the winter months.  Swimming remains a cold experience however as shallow water temperatures rarely reach 17-degrees Celsius with deep waters having an almost constant temperature of below 10-degrees. Jumping into the water from your swim platform therefore is not a recommendable option, unless you get well prepared for the experience.

Finally, contrary to what you may believe, sandy beaches here are available too. You can stop at some just before you explore natural glaciers and hidden caves or after you have observed numerous wild birds such as cormorants, sea eagles or puffins and kittiwakes. And if this is not all your are interested in exploring, how about meeting some locals from the Sami people who have their own distinguished culture that includes both history and art ? With Gulf Stream bringing the much needed warmth in summer, the Arctic Circle is not as isolated as one may think indeed.

West Coast and Norwegian Fjords:

Coming soon ... Oslofjords: Oslo, the capital of Norway is the capital of yachting as well.  Most yachting enthusiasts cruise in this area known as Oslofjord. You too can sail between the islands such as Hovedøya, Lindøya, Nakholmen, Bleikøya, Gressholmen, and Langøyene all located en route between the Færder lighthouse to Langesund which is your typical itinerary if visiting Oslo Fjord.  Although not a fjord as a geological term, this area of outstanding natural beauty comes alive in summer and is perfect for those keen to explore the capital and maybe collect their Nobel Prize at the same time.  There is a good choice of luxury yachts based here.

NORWAY Private Charter Yachts Selection  Norway is most probably the most remote mega yacht charter destination in Europe, thus finding a suitable type and size of a yacht is not always an easy task.  There is namely a small selection of mega yachts or luxury sailing yachts  available for private yacht charter cruises around the Norwegian Fjords yet not all of them are permanently based here. For clients from all over the world, NORWAY will remain difficult to access and a destination one can visit only once in a lifetime. For that reason, having sufficient flexibility to grab an opportunity when one of the best super yachts is heading in this direction is very important.

Arrange a Private Yacht Charter in Norway For more information about booking a private luxury charter yacht in Northern Europe in general and Norway in particular particular please consider making plans in good time.  In case you wish to explore Norwegian Fjords, experience the Midnight Sun, Aurora Borealis and North Cape or even the island of Svalbard or simply wish to have a luxury cruise around the Oslofjords, contact us  at [email protected]  so we can assist you to plan your perfect luxury yacht charter itinerary, combining your family or business needs with recommendations about the best time to visit this tropical destination..
