  • Best Sailboat: Playsteam Voyager 400

What to Consider

While you can likely get away with using a larger RC boat on a pond or lake, you may want to stick to a smaller model if you’ll be floating yours in a backyard swimming pool or need to pack something tiny. RC boats can be up to two feet long, so make sure to consider the journey to the water, too, especially if the boat you’re eyeing doesn’t come with a carrying case.

Weight and Speed

The RC boat’s weight helps determine how fast it can move. Heavier boats are better equipped to move at high speeds without capsizing, whereas lighter boats can be speedy using less power, a.k.a., slower acceleration. Think of it like torque on a car (or a full-sized boat, for that matter)—the more power the boat gets from the battery, electric, or gas motor, the faster it can accelerate.

Speed is also dependent on the type of hull—some boats are shaped for optimal turning and curves, while others are built for picking up speed while driving in a straight line.

The priciest models can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. We mostly recommend recreational, battery-powered RC boats that reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour, since the more powerful, expensive models are meant for hardcore hobbyists and professional racers.

Capsize Recovery

Many RC boats have anti-capsize, or capsize recovery, functionality to prevent them from flipping over (and staying overturned). Flipping an RC boat is extremely easy, especially if you lack experience, and can lead to a sinking ship. If you’re new to RC boating, consider grabbing one with capsize recovery, making your boat rebalance and flip back over if it tips.

How We Selected

We researched each model’s speed, customer rating, durability, and unique features. We also consulted buying guides from several top hobbyist publications. We’ve picked options for every type of RC boat customer, whether you’re a casual hobbyist, buying a first boat for your kids, or you’re a dedicated RC enthusiast.

ALPHAREV RC Boat with Case R308

RC Boat with Case R308

This boat features an anti-capsize hull system, so if it tips over or gets hit by a wave, it’ll flip back over to recover. It also has LED lights installed to make it easy to see when it’s dark. Thanks to the autopilot mode that loops the boat into a figure-eight shape, children can easily use it, too.

The R308 comes with two batteries and two chargers, with users reporting approximately 20 minutes of power (counting both batteries) when operating the boat at full speed. It has a 400-foot signal range for distance driving and tops at 20 miles per hour. With its carry case, the R308 is a solid RC boat for most users.

Force1 Velocity H102

Velocity H102

This boat reaches speeds of 20-plus miles per hour, making it great for anyone who wants their toy to fly on the water. This boat features a capsize recovery mode, a water-cooled engine, and a double-hatched body, making it easier to control on waves. The charge time is a little long, three to four hours, but it can ride for up to 15 minutes at full power.

Customers say this boat reaches top speed fairly quickly, though some report that the controller is difficult to use and not very responsive. Still, it handles well on the water and is a super speedy boat.

Pro Boat RC Jet Boat Blackjack 24"

RC Jet Boat Blackjack 24"

A critical favorite, the Blackjack 24 is one smooth RC boat. It handles well with a very responsive controller, takes turns quickly, and according to one critic, it remains stable even at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. Its bright color also makes it easy to see while it’s out on the water, so you’ll never lose track of it.

Customers report roughly 15 to 20 minutes of playtime, and many say it’s surprisingly fast and responsive. One customer also says that although it’s an experienced hobby-grade toy, it’s very intuitive to operate.

DEERC RC Boat with LED Light

RC Boat with LED Light

This is an excellent option for anyone eager to get into RC boating but unsure of their prowess on the water. It features two autopilot modes, so there’s plenty of opportunity to learn how to use it. It also has an extended playtime of 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to practice.

With features like capsize recovery, double hatch design, and low-battery and signal alarms, this boat is pretty much goof proof, making it the perfect boat for beginners on their way to becoming enthusiasts.

Altair Aerial AA102 RC Boat

AA102 RC Boat

If you need a well-rounded RC boat, this one has ample protection, zippy speeds, and excellent customer service, all in one attractive package. Its anti-capsize feature prevents it from tipping over, while several users say its nose bumper saved their boats from getting totaled through crashing.

It has an extra battery for more playtime, and several users say it provides up to 20 minutes of action after swapping it. Users who experienced issues with their boats were able to find replacement parts and products thanks to the company’s customer service help. Others say that it’s a terrific value, though the lack of a carry case is disappointing.

Gizmovine RC Boat

RC Boat

This Gizmovine RC boat is a solid entry for children due to its capsize recovery, double-hatch protection against internal water damage, and easy-to-read LCD controller display. Many users say the boat’s excellent for children under 10, and its speed of up to 20 mph is perfect for controlling on the water.

While some say its battery life is too short, the controller features a low-battery warning for when it’s time to swap them out—plus it comes with two. The boat’s claimed speed is quick, but a slower pace can preserve battery life and provide a steady ride for children.

User reviews also say it’s perfect for the pool or a small lake where it’s easy to retrieve.

VOLANTEXRC Brushless RC Boat

Brushless RC Boat

If you need speed and don’t mind investing more money into your hobby, this boat is fantastic. The fastest model on this list, this boat has a top speed of 40 miles per hour, a range of up to 656 feet, and a water-cooled system that prevents the motor from overheating.

It also has safety features to prevent damage from the high speeds, like waterproofing and a one-piece hull to prevent cracks.

The biggest flaw is its lack of capsize recovery, and several users say their boats flipped in action, causing them to swim out to retrieve their toys. It also only comes with one battery.

Cheerwing RC Racing Boat

RC Racing Boat

Cheerwing RC boats are fantastic if you’re looking for an affordable toy to race with your friends. This boat can hit up to 15 miles per hour and has some great features, including capsize recovery and automatic yaw correction, which rebalances your boat. It also signals when the battery is low or starts to lose signal, giving you peace of mind.

If you want to try RC boating without spending much, this is a solid buy. Its biggest downside is in its battery life—just six to eight minutes per charge—and it doesn’t come with the option to buy a second battery, so it requires frequent recharging.

PLAYSTEAM Voyager 400 RC Sailboat

Voyager 400 RC Sailboat

If sailing is your preference, the Voyager 400 is the way to go. Rather than rely on an electric motor to push it forward, the Voyager 400 can sail in any body of water via wind power. Its remote controls the rudder and the propulsion, and just in case wind isn’t in the forecast, it comes with a detachable motor to help propel it.

Customers say it’s easy to use, and everything is sealed to keep interior components dry when it tips over. Its rechargeable remote battery can work for up to one hour, which puts most RC speedboats to shame. A drawback, however, is that if it gets stuck at sea without the motor attached, you’ll have to wait for it to wash ashore.

11 Best RC Boats that are Lightning Fast! (Mar 2024 Review)

In this guide, we’ll look at the best RC boats. We’ve compared power, speed, design, and cost. to give you our top recommendations.

What Are The Best RC Boats?

More detailed rc boat reviews, altair aa102 rc boat.

biggest rc yacht

Altair AA102 RC Boat Review

The Altair AA102 RC Boat   is our top choice for the best RC boat, combining great features with a competitive price-point. After testing, we were particularly impressed with its speed across the water and self-righting feature – this makes it easy to operate even if you’re new to RC boats.

We also like the fact that Altair Aerial is a US-based company that puts a special emphasis on customer support. This is quite hard to find compared to its competitors who are often based in the far-east.

This nifty remote control boat can reach speeds of up to 24 mph and is great for kids & adults alike.

The CSP child-safe propeller system is nice because it doesn’t allow the propeller to turn until the boat sensors detect that it is in water.

Finally, this RC boat also comes with a low battery and out-of-range alarm to make sure you know when to bring it home, meaning it won’t be stranded out on the water.

Overall, we think the Altair AA102 RC Boat is the best RC boat for the money and you should definitely consider getting one!

Force1 Remote Control Boat

biggest rc yacht

Force1 Remote Control Boat Review

If you want the best RC boat on a budget, look no further than the Force1 RC boat which comes in a choice of either blue or green.

This remote control boat has a brushless motor to help it pick up some speed across the water. While not the same level as others on this list, this boat can reach over 20mph with little interference. It’s perfect for the kids or a family day out.

This RC boat is electric and self-righting to keep the fun going for longer, and it’s easy to control making it suitable no matter what your experience.

Finally, this boat is equipped with a low-signal warning to let you know before you reach your max range. An electric RC boat that is ready to go out of the box, the Force1 RC boat is one of the best RC boat offerings out there!

YEZI Venom Remote Control Boat

biggest rc yacht

YEZI Venom Remote Control Boat Review

This is a high-speed boat with large propellers that can be used for boat racing and other fun sports. Although it is super fast, it is very easy to control, and even beginners will be able to drive it with ease.

It takes about two hours to charge fully, and you can drive it on freshwater indoors or outdoors. Do not use it on salt water as this will damage the boat.

I like the double-hatch design as it dramatically improves water resistance. This is very important as it protects the electrical components from water damage.

Alpharev R208 RC Boat

biggest rc yacht

Alpharev R208 RC Boat Review

This high-speed boat can travel more than 20 miles per hour on the water. Coming in 4 different colors, it also has a 150-meter signal range and a four-channel remote, which will certainly come in handy!

The Alpharev R208 RC boat uses a 7.4V 1200mAh lithium battery, giving you approximately 20 minutes of fun time while taking 1 to 1.5 hours to recharge. It has self righting function as well as a figure eight mode which showcases its handling ability.

Your boat will last a long time if you run it in clean water such as lakes, pools, and rivers. Do not use this boat in salt water or other dense water conditions. Note that the engine does not start until the boat contacts water.

SZJJX 2 in 1 RC Boat

biggest rc yacht

SZJJX 2 in 1 RC Boat Review

This RC boat’s controller will never be subject to radio interference, and it will always be responsive, making them super easy to control. Children can drive this boat under adult supervision, and playing in a lake on a day trip out is fun for the whole family.

You will be pleased to learn that this boat has been designed with safety and durability in mind. It is made using superior ABS plastic, and all of the edges are sealed to prevent internal water damage.

There isn’t an on or off switch on the boat, so you actually have to put it in water to trigger its sensors. This has confused many users in the past and led them to believe that the boat is faulty.

DEERC H120 RC Boat

biggest rc yacht

DEERC H120 RC Boat Review

If you are prone to capsizing RC boats and you are a little worried about your abilities to control it, then this is the boat for you! The DEERC RC boat has the ability to recover from capsizing, so if it flips in the middle of a lake, you can recover it.

Charging this boat is super easy and only takes about two hours. You will receive a USB charger with your boat, which makes it easy to charge in your car when you are on the go.

This is a brilliant gift for children ages 14 and above as it is high-speed and exciting. The boat will drive up to 20 miles per hour, which is very fast for an RC car!

Cheerwing RC Brushless High-Speed Boat

biggest rc yacht

Cheerwing RC Brushless High-Speed Boat Review

This is a high-quality racing boat that also has an anti-flip feature that allows it to recover from capsizing. Boat racers won’t have to worry about compromising their race if the boat flips.

If your boat runs into a poor signal and struggles to pick up the radio signal from the remote control, it will display a poor signal alarm. This is a brilliant feature for anyone who plans on driving their boat in lakes and rivers.

Unfortunately, with great speed comes terrible battery life. The faster you run the boat, the faster the battery life will die, putting a fast stop to the fun and games.

Tounlinx RC Boats

biggest rc yacht

Tounlinx RC Boats Review

Do you want a cool-looking RC boat that can be run during the night? This boat is brightly lit with lights that allow you to spot your boat on the lake from far away.

Enjoy up to a whopping 200 meters of control distance and a maximum speed of 35K/h. If you love speed and power, this boat has it all!

If you ever want to replace and renew the batteries, you can find replacements at the Tounlinx store. Because of this great advantage, you will never have to put up with a deteriorating battery life again.

SOWOFA Racing High Speed Boat

biggest rc yacht

SOWOFA Racing High Speed Boat Review

Another boat that’s built to go fast , we’ve got the SOWOFA high speed boat , which is packed full of fun features. This beauty can reach speeds of 55-65kmh and is equipped with auto roll correct in case you lose control, as well as a low power warning.

This RC boat has great circulation, with an auto water cool system to keep it going for longer. It’s not suitable for beginners due to the high speeds and large size.

Despite the speeds, safety is clearly a priority for this brand. If you look for safety, this might be the best RC boat for you. It performs well in any conditions and has anti-collision protection to help keep it, and others, safe. The body is durable and of high quality.

If you’re looking for one of the fastest RC cars on the market, without compromising on safety, the SOWOFA high speed boat is the one for you.

Pro Boat Stealthwake Deep-V RC Boat

biggest rc yacht

Pro Boat Stealthwake Deep-V RC Boat Review

Pro Boat is renowned for its high quality and excellent value RC boats, and the Stealthwake is no exception. For beginners, this might just be the best RC boat for the money.

This RC boat is made from durable ABS plastic and the streamlined deep-V hull makes this RC perfect for some high-speed fun.

Powered by the included Ni-Mh batteries with a 2.4ghz marine radio system, enjoy interference-free control and an extended range.

Finally, the motor is water-cooled and the electronics are waterproof. Despite the high speeds, it’s easy for beginners to use, and the great design lets you zoom across the water in style.

If you’re a beginner that’s looking for the best value-for-money RC boat out there, then you’ve got to check out the top quality Stealthwake !

IOKUKI 2.4G RC Boat

biggest rc yacht

IOKUKI 2.4G RC Boat Review

You can enjoy an incredible 50 minutes of playtime on a single charge. This is more than average for rechargeable RC boats, which is great for anyone thinking of taking the boat out on a day trip of fun.

Children and adults can both enjoy playing with this boat. It will drive in lakes and rivers or in small paddling pools giving it diversity.

One of the best features is that a red light flashes brightly to let you know when the battery is low. When the battery is dangerously low, the boat will stop working, and it will only restart after five seconds so that you have time to return it.

Finally, it is waterproof with an anti-water design that blocks water from getting into the electronic components inside. This boosts its longevity and allows you and your family to play with it for longer.

RC Boat Buyer’s Guide

Sailing the high seas with the sun on your face is easy with the best RC boat, and there’s hundreds of fun and fast RC boats out there to give you that thrill. But from enormous, intricately detailed scale boats to the fast and furious catamarans, knowing which is the best RC boat to go for can be tricky.

The best thing about RC boats is that it’s a hobby that suits anyone and everyone. If you’re on a budget, smaller boats can easily be found, and these still can provide hours of fun. If you have more money to play with and you’re interested in speed, then there’s many fantastic options for you!

Advice for Buying for a Child

The best remote control boat on the market will certainly be too powerful for children and even dangerous in the wrong hands, so buying an RC boat for a child or beginner requires some consideration.

An electric powered boat will make the best remote control boat for children as they can be used in swimming pools, ponds and lakes. They are easier to drive but still fun and speedy, and they’re also quiet which makes them ideal for use in public areas.

Ready-made kits are also ideal for beginners as they can get going straight away. These require few extra parts, and are normally easy to maintain and drive.

What to Expect at Different Price Points

Small, electric RC boats suitable for the local pond will of course be cheaper than fuel powered boats. The cheapest options will be ‘toy-like’ electric boats. They can be used in swimming pools and ponds. These boats are unlikely to get up to much speed but will have simple controls and be great for the kids!

At the other end of the scale are fuel-powered speed boats. These are the best RC boats for racing and can often reach speeds of over 60mph. These RC boats will require a lot more maintenance but, provided you learn to control them, they can provide some serious thrills!

The features that affect the price will be durability, and any extra safety features you are after. Those that can be used in choppy water or on windy days will also cost more, while fail safe devices or low battery alerts will also add to the price tag.

Also check out my guides on the best RC submarines with camera , RC sailboats and RC battleships here.

Different Brands

Traxxas is far and away one of the most popular RC boat brands, and for good reason! They have a range of RCs to suit practically any level of experience, and all their boats are good quality and arrive in great condition. You’ll pay more for the Traxxas RCs, but if you’re after something speedy, sturdy and reliable, they should be your go-to.

Pro Boat is another immensely popular brand for RC boats. Their boats usually have an awesome design and they include great extra features. These boats are easy to upgrade and good for racing.

The final brand worth mentioning is USA Toyz. They produce a range of toys and RC boats is one of them. Their boats are great value but suited more for beginners and kids. Their customer service is usually excellent.

What Features do you Want?

RC boats can be as complicated or as simple as you like. Advanced features will add to the cost of your RC, but they will certainly add to the fun factor too!

RC boats are available in a range of sizes and designs. Beginner RC boats are normally around 17 inches and these are great for swimming pools and small ponds. Larger boats will have more power and are designed for larger bodies of water.

A fuel-powered boat with a brushless motor will provide the most power, but these will also be the most expensive! Remember that it’s easy to overdo it and the result might be more power than you can handle.

Losing control of your boat can be costly and even dangerous. If you are upgrading for more power, do it in stages so you don’t end up with too much to control.

Where you are planning on driving your RC boat will depend on the design you opt for. Catamarans are fantastic for speed but can topple over in the wind, while hydroplanes are equally fast but can be difficult to turn at speed.

Whichever design you opt for, ensure the color is bright so that your boat is easy to spot at a distance.

Inexperienced RC hobbyists often prioritize speed, opting for boats that reach speeds in excess of 60mph. What many people don’t realize, is that even 20mph is still fast! It’s far better, as a beginner, to get something you are able to control.

If you do fancy that extra thrill, go for something fast but stable and, if you’re in a public place, stay away from other people or animals in the water.

Water-Cooled Motor

Powerful, water-cooled motors will help your boat to last longer in the water. The best RC boats will come with this feature.

Self-Righting

The self-righting feature helps you keep your boat safe if you capsize. Losing your boat in lakes or rivers can be costly, but self-righting features will get your boat up and running again with little hassle.

Low Battery Alert

A low battery alert will warn you when you’re losing battery so you can bring your RC back to shore. This’ll save you losing power in the middle of a lake!

Safety Features

Some boats come equipped with safety features, such as a propeller that won’t spin until the boat is submerged. Propellers can be dangerous, so this is a welcome add-on if you’re buying for kids.

Catamaran RC Boats

The catamaran hulled-boats are the most stable and fastest in any line-up. Pro Boat has a great range of RC catamarans and they are all influenced by the fastest race boats that compete in the ‘Class One’ category of offshore powerboats. The full-sized catamarans have twin outboard engines boasting more that 1000hp and are able to reach speeds in excess of 160mph. With a little tuning, you would be amazed to know that some Pro Boat RC catamarans have reached speeds in excess of 100mph – and at a fraction of the cost!

The catamaran hull designs are noted for having less volume, lighter displacement and shallower draft – which means less of the boat is in the water compared to monohull boats. Affectionally referred to as ‘Cats,’ these boats have two parallel sponsons of equal size that run along the outer edges of the hull. The two sponsons combined have a smaller hydrodynamic resistance than a monohull and the wider stance on the water can reduce both heeling and wave-induced motion.

When setting up your Pro Boat RC catamaran you will often hear people referring to the boat ‘running too wet’ which basically means it isn’t getting out of the water enough. A catamaran is designed to almost sit on top of the water and if it is unable to lift itself out of the water then it will run slower and handle poorly.

The Pro Boat designers and engineers have been heavily influenced by the full-sized Class One race boats and that has created three very exciting RC catamarans for the main high-speed part of the Pro Boat range. Available in three hull-lengths from 24” to 42” these are also some of the biggest RC boats in the range.

Let’s start with the biggest, and that is the ample Blackjack 42” 8S brushless RC catamaran. This is large scale RC racing at its most fun! The Spektrum Marine 4685 4-Pole, water-cooled motor produces over 5hp and will ensure this big boat can reach speeds of over 55mph! Smart technology throughout, this boat looks a little intimidating at first but within minutes you’ll feel right at home and find yourself pushing harder and harder to get those truly exciting speeds. It has an impact-resistant polycarbonate hull with a clean moulded composite interior. This RC boat is simple to work on and a joy to use.

The Blackjack 42” has a little brother, and that’s the Blackjack 24”. This 24” brushless RC catamaran can run on 2S or 3S LiPo batteries, can hit 30mph and is a great introduction into the world of catamaran RC boats. The distinctive red trim has great visibility on the water and looks very stylish too. This Blackjack is certainly not a gamble – always bet on red.

Between the two Blackjack cats, we have the Veles. This 29” RC catamaran is a pocket rocket. The 2000KV motor can propel this boat to 50mph+ on 6S power. It has a hand-laid fibreglass composite hull that has a very dynamic design with sharp lines and aggressive angles. The Veles 29” RC catamaran is fast and fun, whether you’re a beginner or intermediate RC boater.

Not to worry – this section is dedicated to our top 5 overall picks for the best RC boats for sale. These new remote control boats are great for adults and kids alike, and are a great choice for anyone looking to find the best RC boat for the money and get into the radio control hobby.

#1. The AA Tide – #1 RC Boat for the Money

Click here to See it On Amazon! or you can g–>Get fast and free shipping from the manufacturer’s website at AltairAerial.com .

The Tide RC Brushless Boat is the newest addition to our list. This sleek and stylish RC boat from Altair can reach speeds up to 40 KM/h at a range of over 100 meters! Typically, when you see features in a boat like this, you’re looking at a price tag approaching $200!!

Just as the AA102 has, the Tide features an Anti-Capsize Hull System that enables the user to flip the boat back over if it ever capsizes. It also features a low-battery alarm and an out of range alarm as well, so you can be sure the boat doesn’t get stranded far out at sea.

Probably my favorite feature on this boat isn’t really on the boat at all… it’s the charger. Altair has included a balance charger with this boat, a much-needed upgrade from the AA102. The balance charger helps maintain your battery’s health by not overcharging it and making sure that each cell in the battery is charged at the proper rate. The battery itself, well, it only gets about 8 minutes per charge, so I’ll probably add another one shortly.

The Tide Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 40 km/h
  • • Range: 100+ meters (330 ft)
  • • Comes with 1 11.1V 1500mAH Li-ion Battery
  • • Out of Range Alarm, Low Battery Alarm
  • • Anti-Capsize Hull System Designed to Not Flip Over

#2. Altair AA102 – Best Remote Control Boat for Beginners

Click here to See it On Amazon! or you can get fast and free shipping from the manufacturer’s website at AltairAerial.com .

The AA102 is a fantastic looking RC boat that really has some performance numbers to go with it. This release from Altair can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h at a range of up to 100 meters which is fantastic when you look in this price range. The boat comes loaded with features that include an Anti-Capsize Hull System that ensures if your boat flips over it will right itself in the water for you. There also is a low battery alarm and an out of range alarm just in case you lose track of how much fun you’re having.

Check out this video from Altair for the AA102:

The one drawback that I found on this boat is that the battery life isn’t what I would want it to be (only 7 minutes), but they do include 2 batteries in the package so you do get almost 15 minutes of runtime before you need to re-charge both batteries.

Pair that kind of performance and top notch features with the Altair brand that is known for releasing high quality products and you have a rc boat that is one of the best bang for your buck remote control boats on the market today!

They even have an Altair Video Tutorials page that helps you get started. Email Altair Inc at [email protected]

AA102 Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 30 km/h
  • • Range: 100 meters (330 ft)
  • • Comes with 2 x 3.7V 1500mAH Li-ion Batteries

#3. The Wave – Great Budget RC Boat

The AA Wave is Altair’s other boat to release this year and it stands a close second on our list the the AA Aqua though it’s tough to go wrong with either boat. Just like the AA Aqua, the Altair Wave features an Anti-Capsize Hull System that can self correct any time your boat flips upside down in the water.

While this boat does go slightly slower (25 km/h) than the AA Aqua, the features on the two boats remain practically identical. Again, we wish that the battery life on this product was slightly longer, but they do send an extra battery with the product and at $70 you really are going to have a hard time finding a better buy.

AA Wave Specifications

  • • Can Reach Speeds Up to 25 km/h
  • • Range: 120 meters (390 ft)

#4. Proboat Blackjack

Read reviews and shop for the Proboat Blackjack Here

If you’re interested in fast remote control motor boats but can’t afford any of the best Traxxas models, the Proboat Blackjack is a great $200 substitute. It still moves at a good speed of 30+ miles per hour thanks to a powerful brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor and 30A Li-Po compatible ESC. An off-set rudder system provides decent stability, and the red and black design just looks great cruising along a lake or pond.

A strongly recommended motor boat for the intermediate RC boat user.

Proboat Blackjack Specifications

  • • Takes a 2S or 3S lithium-ion polymer battery (not included)
  • • 30+ MPH top speed with 3S battery
  • • Brushless RC boat 2000Kv water-cooled motor
  • • 30A Li-Po compatible ESC

#5. Force1 H102 Velocity – Best Remote Control Boat for Lakes

Read reviews and shop for the Force1 H102 Velocity Here

The Force1 H102 Velocity is a very popular remote control boat for sale – a regular Amazon best-seller with good reviews to back it up. So it’s probably no surprise that the Velocity ended up so high on our list. There’s a lot to love with this new remote control boat – it’s easy to sail, costs less than 100 dollars, and moves at a fast 20 MPH top speed.

One of the best features of the Velocity is that it’s one of the new self-righting remote control boats that are becoming more popular. This means that if it capsizes, it can automatically right itself in most circumstances. This is a great feature for beginners who are more likely to capsize, and it’s also a great RC boat for lakes! A lot of experts like this sort of feature too, because it makes it easier to recover your property and means you can use it outside of shallow water.

Force1 H102 Velocity Specifications

  • • 20 MPH top speed
  • • 13” V-hull
  • • Takes a 7.4V 600mAh Lion Battery (2 included)
  • • Features a self-righting Capsize Recovery Mode
  • • Battery charger and cable included

#6. Traxxas Spartan – Best Professional Racing RC Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Traxxas Spartan Here

Traxxas is one of the most well-respected RC boat and car manufacturers working today. They’ve knocked it out of the park once again with their 57076 Spartan, which is one of the fastest remote control boats for sale thanks to an incredible top speed of 50 miles per hour!

How does it move so fast? Well, this is one of the new wave of brushless RC boats. Brushless motors operate more efficiently and can give the boat more power, and Traxxas’ Velineon motor is one of the best models around. Innovative design is the hallmark of every piece of this large RC speedboat, which also includes Traxxas stability management and a much better wireless connection than most other remote control boats.

There’s no denying that this is the most advanced and overall best RC boat we’ve reviewed, especially for rough waters. However, some of our readers will be turned away by the price, which is $421 before batteries and charger (which have to be purchased separately.) Still, if you have the money for it, this is a perfect boat for beginners and advanced pilots alike.

Traxxas Spartan Specifications

  • • 30-50 MPH top speed, depending on battery type
  • • 36” V-hull
  • • Low battery alarm will warn you when the boat is almost out of power
  • • Can be controlled via smartphone or radio transmitter
  • • equipped with Traxxas Stability Management
  • • Batteries and charger sold seperately

#7. UDIRC Venom

Read reviews and shop for the UDIRC Venom Here

This is a faster RC speedboat model that is really made for those that want to experience higher speeds and a lot of excitement. This cool RC boat is about a foot long and represents what people usually want most out of a modern, sleek remote control boat in the cheap price range. Some even consider it the best remote control speedboat for sale, although it’s only #2 on our list.

Users really love the low-battery alarm, which makes it so that you don’t have to worry about getting stranded way out in the middle of the body of water. It’s not recommended for use in an area that has huge waves, but the hull is overall very durable. And it controls very well, especially considering that most electric RC boats under $50…well, to put it politely, do NOT control very well.

One of the Venom’s unique features is the fact that it automatically cools its motor and prevents it from overheating using the water it sails on. This helps the boat last longer and also improves its battery life, which is among the best in its price range.

All-around, this is one of the best RC boats under $100.

UDIRC Venom Specifications

  • • 15 MPH top speed
  • • 12” V-hull
  • • Takes a 3.7 V 600Mah lithium ion battery (2 included)
  • • ABS anti-tilt hull construction
  • • USB battery charger and cable included

#8. Pro Boat Recoil

Read reviews and shop for the Pro Boat Recoil Here

The Recoil is another self-righting remote control boat for sale by Pro Boat, a company with a good reputation for customer service. It combines a lot of things we liked about other boats higher up on this list: it’s a fast boat, it’s large, and it’s a self righting RC boat. In fact, many would consider it the best beginner boat for sale. It also uses a 2950Kv brushless motor.

So what’s the catch? Well, first is the price. $180 isn’t beyond the pale, but it’s not exactly cheap, and some of these features are available in RC boats under 100. The second problem is the battery life – the Recoil only lasts 10 minutes on a single battery charge and doesn’t come with a spare.

Still, if you don’t mind springing for a few extra batteries, this is a great radio controlled boat for somebody who wants all of the latest features in a single, somewhat cheap package.

Pro Boat Recoil Specifications

  • • 25 MPH top speed
  • • 17” Deep-V hull
  • • Takes a 3S 1300mAh 11.1V LiPo Battery (1 included)
  • • 2950Kv brushless RC boat motor
  • • Battery charger included

#9. SOWOFA FT011 Ultimate Racing Boat

Read reviews and shop for the SOWOFA FT011 Here

The SOWOFA FT011, also known as the Ultimate Racing Boat, doesn’t quite live up to its name. In particular, it wouldn’t be right to mention this boat without explaining that the company behind it is a little less than ethical – the top image of this product on their Amazon page, for example, is blatantly misleading.

However, there’s still a lot to love about the FT011, which is one of the fastest and most fun remote control boats for sale. It has an incredible top speed, especially considering its large hull size. It operates on powerful brushless motors that don’t need cleaning and can self-right itself after a capsize. It also has a solid internal cooling mechanism that keeps the electronics running longer, and it’s a good thing too, because the battery life is only about 10-15 minutes. However, you can pay for a better battery and charger to upgrade this boat for not too much extra money.

In all, this is an excellent large RC boat for sale that will please hobbyists and experienced racers alike with its speed and ability. Just don’t expect a lot of post-sale customer support.

SOWOFA FT011 Specifications

  • • 50 MPH top speed
  • • 25” V-hull
  • • Takes a 14.8V 2200mA battery (1 included)
  • • Self-righting RC boat mode
  • • Brushless remote control boat motor

#10. Cheerwing RC Racing Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Cheerwing RC Racing Boat Here

The Cheerwing RC Racing Boat is a popular radio controlled boat because of its small size and excellent controls. Its streamlined hull and compact shape are actually specifically designed for use in smaller bodies of water such as a pond or lake.

And despite the Cheerwing’s low price it actually has decent specs, with a top speed of 15 MPH and a sailing time of 8 minutes off of only 80 minutes of charge. You might want to buy a couple spare batteries, but at least you won’t have to wait long to sail again after they’ve been spent.

This awesome RC boat for lakes is especially good for beginners, because it has self-righting capsize recovery features built right into the hull, auto-corrects its own tilt, is water-cooled, and has built-in alarms for low battery or weak signal connection. So if you’re looking for a great small RC boat that can be used in any conditions, the Cheerwing RC Racing Boat is an excellent choice.

Cheerwing Racing Boat Specifications

  • • Takes a 3.7V*2 600mAh Li-Fe battery (1 included)
  • • Self balancing stability mode
  • • Auto-correct yaw
  • • Fast charging time

#11. Babrit F1

Read reviews and shop for the Babrit F1 Here

The Babrit F1 is a small boat that can move in any direction: forward, left, right, and reverse. Not many boats can move in reverse, and that advanced versatility makes the F1 one of the best remote control boats for lakes, because it’s easy to back away from the edge if you find yourself getting into a dangerous situation. Precise port position and self balancing sailing also keep this boat stable and upright in any condition.

The Babrit F1 is also just a good boat all around – it moves fast (but not so fast that it’s unusable in a smaller space), has a decent battery life, doesn’t cost too much and never loses signal connection. The only downside is that the transmitter range is a little short, but that really doesn’t matter in a small lake or pond. All in all, this is a great RC boat for beginners and experts (though it may find more favor with the former.)

Babrit F1 Specifications

  • • 11” V-hull
  • • Takes a 4.8V 700 mah battery (1 included)
  • • Moves in reverse

#12. Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran – Fastest RC Motor Boat

Read reviews and shop for the Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran Here

Now, someone’s almost certainly going to point out that technically ALL the boats we’ve reviewed so far have been remote control motor boats. That’s because all remote control boats (and remote control vehicles in general) require a motor to operate.

The Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran, however, is the fastest RC motor boat for sale today. This is the kind of boat that you can actually use for racing, if you feel so inclined!

When you’re looking for cool RC motor boats with pure speed, there’s just no beating Traxxas. The DCB M41 twin-hull Catamaran (a term which refers to the boat’s unique shape) can go faster than 50 miles per hour thanks to a water-cooled, waterproof VXL-6s marine ESC with low-voltage protection and a Velineon 540XL brushless rc boat motor.

If that sounds like gibberish to you, here’s what you need to know: it’s fast, it’s tough (with an aluminum and stainless steel body), it has fine-tuned controls, and it moves great across smooth water. The only downside with this boat is that it’s fairly expensive and doesn’t come with batteries. But for anyone looking for one of the fastest RC motor boats around, money should be no object.

Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran Specifications

  • • 60+ MPH top speed
  • • Takes a 6S lithium-ion polymer battery (not included)
  • • Velineon 540XL Brushless motor with high flow water-cooling jacket
  • • Blue-anodized aluminum rudder support, rudder, and drive strut
  • • Stainless steel trim tabs and hardware

RC boats costing less than $100 are great budget-friendly options that can be enjoyed by people of all skill levels. Since these are cheap RC boats, you may be missing out on some features that you’d find in more expensive RC boats, but don’t let that turn you away. These affordable RC toys under $100 still give you a great boating experience and may just be exactly what you’re looking for.

Some features to look for when shopping for RC boats less than $100 are speed, range, size, and battery life. An affordable boat will probably travel at speeds around 10-15 mph. While this isn’t as fast as some more professional-grade RC boats, these speeds are great for kids and beginners who are just starting the RC hobby. Similarly, the RC boat may not have the farthest range but this is okay because it will help drivers stay in control without their boat getting out too far in the water.

An RC water toy at this price may also be quite a bit smaller than other boats costing more than $100. Again, a smaller size will be beginner and kid-friendly and help them get started learning how to drive RC toys. The battery life in your RC boat may only be about 10-15 minutes as well. However, one good thing about RC boats less than $100 is that some manufacturers will include an extra battery giving users double the driving time.

As a parent, you’ll love the safety features! This boat won’t even engage the propeller blade unless the entier hull is emerged in water. That means no cut fingers, no tears, just lots of playtime outdoors!

rc boat under 100 aa wave

One of the best places to drive an RC boat is at the lake. Some RC boats are better for driving in lakes than others for a number of reasons. Since lakes are often large bodies of water it’s important that you will be able to see your boat at all times and stay in control of it.

Some features to look for when buying an RC toy for lakes are it’s size, speed, range, and battery life. Plus, it also helps if your boat is a bright color like red or yellow so you can always spot it on the water. You will also want a boat that is big enough as well for these reasons. A smaller sized boat may be harder to spot if it’s far away from you.

One great thing about driving RC boats on lakes is that you can reach some serious speeds without interfering with other people that may be on the water. Boats that go about 20-30 mph would be great for racing across the lake. You can also find an RC boat that has a bit farther of a range to allow to drive across the lake. However, you don’t want to drive too far and lose your boat. Because of this, you should find a boat with an out-of-range alarm so you will be able to know when it’s time to reel in your boat a little bit.

Also look for RC boats that have a low-battery alarm as well. While driving a boat on a lake will allow you find a boat that has a longer battery life, you won’t want the battery to run out while it’s far away from you. These features help you keep control of RC lake boat so you can have an enjoyable driving experience.

Altair AA102 – Best Remote Control Boat for Lakes

The Altair AA102 is one of our favorite new boats available on the market today and it’s the perfect boat for riding around on a lake. With the ability to reach speads of up to 25 mph, I’ve found that the AA102 can even handle some turbulance out on the water as well.

There is a ton of power available to you when you need it and the Anti-Capsize Hull System makes it so any time you flip the boat over you can right it quickly and be on your way.

Altair AA102 RC Boat Specifications

  • • Speed: 25 mphCan Reach Speeds Up to 30 km/h
  • • 2 x 3.7V 1500mAH Li-ion Batteries

Proboat Blackjack – Best RC Speed Boat for Lakes

The Proboat Blackjack will really excel out on the open water of a lake. Featuring a brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor and with the ability to reach speeds of up tih 30 mph, you’re going to love how this catamaran looks as it skips across the water surface.

While this boat doesn’t handle with quite the ease that the AA102 does, if you’re looking for something that can really zip I think this boat might be for you

  • • Speed: 30 mph
  • • Brushless 2000Kv water-cooled motor
  • • Spektrum STX 2.4GHz FHSS Radio System
  • • Off-set rudder system

Some RC boat drivers may have a need for speed. If this is you and you’re looking for an RC speed boat, there are certain things to look for.

The fastest RC boats will have brushless motors. A brushless RC boat will have more power as opposed to a brushed model, which means it can go faster and reach some serious speeds on the water.

Because you’ll be going faster in the water, it may be more difficult to stay in control of the boat. Because of this, an anti-capsize hull system will help you tremendously. If your boat gets flipped over in the water, its hull system will help you get it back upright and racing again.

Since fast RC boats can be more advanced, kids should be careful if they are driving them. Always be sure an adult is present when a child is driving an RC boat or wait until they are older before they start driving one. Similarly, beginners may struggle at first. RC speed boats are best for experienced RC hobbyists.

Safety is a huge thing to consider when looking at fast RC boats. That’s why we recommend that only older or experienced drivers use them. Other things to look for to help anyone driving stay safe are low-battery and out-of-range alarms to help you know when it’s time to bring the boat in. Another good tip is to always keep your RC speed boat in site to minimize your chances of losing control of it.

The fastest speed you’ll find on an RC speed boat is around 35-50 mph. These are impressive speeds to reach on the water and are great for racing. Be sure to put your fast RC boat to the test by racing up against other hobbyists and show off those driving skills.

  • • 40″ Hull Length

Altair AA102 – Fastest Budget RC Speed Boat

Now, let’s be honest here, most of us are not going to have $400+ floating around out there for a new RC Boat no matter how fast it goes. And even if we did, who are we going to end up racing with?

No, for most of us, we want speed and we want it to be affordable! Enter, the AA102. This boat from Altair is sharp looking, but it can really move on the water too reaching speeds up to 20 mph at a fraction of the cost (around $80).

The AA102 also comes with two batteries that are good for around 10 minutes each, so you can really have a good time out on the water. I loved getting this thing out on the lake by my parents house. No matter how choppy the water got, I was still able to plow through.

Types of RC Boats

There are many types of RC boats available and all come with different features and specs depending on what you’re looking for. Whether you’re searching for an RC boat for you, your outdoorsy brother or your young child, there is definitely a boat out there that’s perfect.

One type of RC boat are those that come with built in or attachable cameras. These boats are great for anyone who wants to capture some great first-person view action shots with their boat while racing across the water.

Remote Control Pontoon Boats

If you’re looking for a toy to take along with you on relaxing days at the lake, an RC pontoon boat might be great for you. These slower moving boats are a ton fun

Saltwater RC boats

Not all boats can be driven in saltwater, but if you’re hoping to take an RC boat with you to the beach you can luckily find some great and exciting ones to take along. When searching just make sure the package is safe for saltwater so you can assure no damage will be done as you’re busy racing through the waves.

Miniature RC Boat

Miniature RC boats are smaller than your standard boat and are great for kids. Since they aren’t too big, kids can easily control them on pools, ponds, and lakes and have a blast while driving them. Plus, they are great for traveling because they don’t take up nearly as much space and are a great toy to have on weekend getaways and vacations.

Radio Controlled Boat FAQs

What’s the best rc boat to buy.

We consider the Traxxas Spartan the best remote control boat of 2023. However, there’s really no objective answer to this question. While the Spartan is the most powerful boat and easily one of the fastest, it’s also very expensive and may not have as much appeal to beginners, who may want a boat with self-righting capsize recovery technology.

That’s why we have broken this list of best electric RC boats into several categories – it lets you, the reader, find the boat that works best for you specifically.

How do RC boats work?

The transmitter or mobile device being used to control the boat sends a radio signal to a receiver on the boat itself. The receiver then interprets the signal and uses the boat’s motor to go forward, turn, or reverse. RC boats have been around for several years now and are a very popular. There are even a selection of RC boats for kids that make a great gift

Can RC boats go in saltwater?

Most remote control boats should not be used in saltwater. Unlike freshwater, saltwater can cause rust and other forms of damage to the delicate electronic parts inside your vehicle. However, RC boats that are designed to be used in saltwater do exist – so as long as you make sure to buy something that says it’s “saltwater safe”, you should be able to use it anywhere.

What’s the fastest RC boat?

The fastest RC boat ever recorded is the Munich SAW, which was recorded at speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour (a little under 200 mph.) However, this world record setter was a custom build and is not available for commercial sale.

The fastest RC boat that you can buy is probably the Traxxas DCB M41 Catamaran. It regularly moves at speeds of 50-60 miles per hour, and with the right battery it can even go much faster than that.

What is the best RC boat for rough water?

The Force1 Velocity, UDIRC Venom, and anything made by Traxxas are great RC boats for rough water.

Where to buy RC boats?

RC boats can sometimes be found in a store, but are most commonly purchased from Amazon or directly from a manufacturer’s website in the modern age. We’ve included Amazon links to every product on this list to make finding the perfect RC boat more convenient for our readers.

Finding the Best RC Boat for You

Tower Hobbies is one of the leading sources for quality-built RC boats, parts and accessories. We offer one of the widest selections of RC boating equipment because there is a wide range in skill, hobby and interest levels.

It can be hard to know where to begin when buying your first RC boat and setting out for the water. It’s important to understand your current skill level, along with where you plan on setting sail, in order to find the right RC boat for your needs.

RC Boats for Beginners

There are many models and options available when starting out, so it’s important that you learn a few key areas when it comes to RC boating.

RC Boat Batteries

It’s important to understand your battery life when out on a body of water. An RC boat can and will run out of battery after an extended period of cruising on the water and it’s not fun if you have to fish out the boat yourself once it peters out. Having a second charged battery on hand can be a great way to increase your time out on the water.

RC Boat Controller Limits

In addition to battery life, it’s important to know what the range is on your model’s RC controller – especially on larger bodies of water. A beginner mistake is allowing the boat to get too far away and out of range for picking up the remote-control signal. When looking to purchase a reliable RC boat, it’s important to understand your intended application.

RC Boat Skill Level

Getting the fastest and most agile boat on the water can be fun, but it’s important to recognize your skill level. Fast RC boats can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour! RC boats can be more difficult to control and just like real boats, the RC boat can be at risk to capsizing. For beginners, you may try to find a boat with adjustable speeds and self-righting systems that help prevent issues from lack of control skill.

Types of RC Boats

We always recommend evaluating what type of hobbyist you are before making a boat purchase? Are you looking for fun, high-speed action or would you prefer a relaxing day at sail? Tower Hobbies offers a wide variety of RC boats, including RC boat kits designed to be built and driven by you. Check out our summaries below to find the right RC boat for your hobby.

Electric RC Boats

Electric RC boats use two types of electric motors – brushed and brushless. (You can learn more about the difference between brushed and brushless motors here). Electric RC boats are easier to get up and running and they are quieter and cleaner than gas RC boats. Electric boats come in a larger variety of sizes and hobby skill levels, whereas gas-powered RC boats tend to be used by intermediate or expert hobbyists.

Gas RC Boats

Gas-powered RC boats are typically larger due to the engine size, and offer increased realism, including smoke and noise of a gas-powered engine. Gas-powered RC boat engines do require some mechanical skills for engine tuning and maintenance but are typically faster and more water-resistant than brushed and brushless electric motors if well-tuned.

RC Sailboats

Remote controlled sailboats use the natural wind for movement and the user controls the boats steering and positioning of sails with a radio transmitter. RC sailboats come in a wide variety of options, including electric motors, which can be valuable when the wind dies down or better maneuverability back to shore.

RC Scale Boats

RC scale boats are based on real world ships, boats and vessels. These are typically sold in kit form, where the user builds the RC model, adds the motor and drive train and then sails the boat on the water. RC scale boat kits require skill in ship building as the model must float (balanced) and be watertight. These projects require significant time investment but can be exceptionally rewarding once completed.

Radio control boats compared to other RC models

With hobby-quality radio control boats, sometimes referred to as remote control boats, you can do most of the same things that you can do with RC cars. You can run them for fun, race them, admire their scale looks, and add option parts to increase their performance.

The main difference is that you don’t run your RC boat on land. That’s what makes them so popular and exciting. Picture yourself at the lake on a sunny afternoon, racing your remote control boat through the shimmering water with a broad wake and tall rooster tail behind it. Or maybe you'd prefer to gently glide along with a remote control sailboat. There’s nothing else in the RC hobby like it.

The only special requirement is that you need a body of water large enough for the RC marine model you own, without strong currents and relatively free of limbs, grasses, and other obstacles that could snag it. If your RC boat does get stuck away from shore or runs out of power in the middle of the lake, you may need access to a jon boat or other safe way to retrieve it.

Otherwise, piloting your own RC boat is as easy as driving an RC car. And just like RC cars, radio control boats are available in a wide range of styles, sizes, skill levels, completion levels, and prices. Horizon Hobby® has one that’s perfect for every interested hobbyist.

Types of RC boats

Radio control electric boats are available in many styles. Tunnel hull and hydroplane RC boats are among the fastest, with flat bottoms that skim across smooth water with little resistance when up to speed. For rougher conditions, the V-shaped hull of deep vee RC boats is best. Though not quite as fast, a deep vee can cut more easily through choppy water. Electric RC boats come in many sizes, including mini, which can be run in swimming pools or small ponds. The jet pump propelled Pro Boat® Jet Jam™ mini RC boat is a blast in water only three inches deep!

Powered by wind like their full-size counterparts, RC sailboats are great for beginners and economical, too. They provided unlimited run time as long as there’s a breeze. You might think of sailboats as elegant and leisurely paced, but there are also RC racing sailboats for modelers who crave speed.

Scale RC boats prioritize realism over speed. They still perform well, but their owners pay close attention to recreating the full-scale subjects accurately. The Dumas® Creole Queen scale steamboat kit features a motor-powered paddle wheel and includes three pages of decals.

RC airplane pilots can make an easy transition into boating with an RC airboat. These use the same power plants and propellers as RC aircraft. The engine mounts on a pedestal at the back of the boat and the force of the spinning prop pushes the boat across the water.

Remote control boats in kit form or ready-to-run (RTR

Like other categories of radio control models, RC boats can be purchased ready-to-run (RTR) with most or all accessories included, or as kits that usually require assembly, power systems, and radio equipment.

Many ready-to-run RC boat models have molded ABS plastic hulls and decks that are already joined at the factory. The motor and running hardware are usually also installed. RC boats with ABS hulls tend to be among the most affordable, but speed and performance are still impressive. With optional accessories, the Pro Boat Blackjack™ [link https://www.horizonhobby.com/product/blackjack-42-8s-brushless-catamaran-rtr/PRB08043.html] with ABS hull can go 30 mph or more.

Factory-built RC boats are also available with preformed fiberglass hulls. Fiberglass boats are more expensive due to the amount of work required by the manufacturer (the reinforcing fiberglass material must be saturated with a liquid resin and then applied to the boat hull mold). This construction is usually found on high-performance RC boats like the Pro Boat UL-19 Hydroplane , whose speed can exceed 50 mph.

Scale RC boat kits often feature wooden hulls. Though among the least expensive boat models, wooden boat kits also require the most work to complete. Many wood planks must be fitted onto the hull framework and then finished with paint or resin to ensure the hull is watertight.

The RC boat you choose will determine what else you’ll need to buy. Most ready-to-run (RTR) RC boats available from Horizon Hobby include a 2-channel radio system, motor, and ESC. You might need to provide your own suitable battery pack and battery charger. Read the product descriptions to learn what is and is not included with the RC boat you’ve chosen, and for recommended completion items.

You’ll find that the internal design of a typical electric RC boat is pretty simple. The motor is located near the front of the boat. It’s connected to a drive shaft that runs toward the back of the boat and out through the bottom of the hull. The boat’s propeller is at the end of the shaft, submerged in the water. A servo-activated rudder positioned just behind the propeller enables you to steer.

RC boats often use water cooling to keep their motor and ESC from overheating. These components are wrapped with coils of aluminum tubing, and the coils are connected to a water pickup at the bottom of the hull. As the boat moves forward, water is forced into the pickup and through the coils to provide cooling.

The electronics used in RC boats are highly water-resistant, but the boat manufacturer may recommend additional steps to seal out water for additional protection. You should also be aware that most remote control boats should not be used in saltwater. Unlike freshwater, saltwater can cause rust and other damage to delicate electronic parts.

Check out all of the great RC boats available at Horizon Hobby as well as our wide selection of boat accessory items and replacement parts from Pro Boat , Spektrum™ and Dynamite®.

Giant scale RC Boats

Rc scaling for the big boys with giant scale rc boats.

Giant scale RC boats have caught on in a very big way in the world of RC Hobby vehicles. With their gargantuan proportions, these are one set of RC vehicles that you just cannot afford to miss noticing, in what is easily a huge universe of RC vehicles. In this article, we look closely at the phenomenon of giant scale RC Boats and also try to understand the reason behind the immense popularity of giant scale RC boats.

Firstly, you need to understand that while there are various kinds of scale RC vehicles including not just boats but also RC Jets and RC Helicopters as well as RC Cars which are near perfect scaled down versions of the original vehicles, giant scale RC boats in particular refer to scaled down versions of actual boats which are pretty much the same size as the actual boat. Take for instance a yacht or a trawler which you actually happen to own and use either for leisure or any other commercial purpose. Imagine having an exact replica of the same, down to the most minute detail...wouldn't that be an awe-inspiring experience? That is pretty much the phenomenon that we are referring to, in the context of giant scale RC boats.

Another phenomenal advantage that giant scale RC boats have is with regard to the fact that they can actually perform numerous roles and responsibilities that their actual versions (the boats of which they are a scaled version) are capable of. So for instance, if you have a trawler which you use for fishing purposes, you can actually use the giant scale RC version of the same, for the very same purpose!

Broadly, with giant scale RC boats, it is about letting your imagination run free and not be bogged down by it. You also need to empathize and identify the factors or aspects that you identify with the most. For instance, even though you own a trawler or a yacht, perhaps navy ships or submarines catch your fancy the most and thus, it would be most appropriate that among the various giant scale RC boats out there, you get yourself try, RC Aerobatic Plane one which is a suitable, scaled down replica of the above mentioned kinds of RC boats.

Thus overall, as you can clearly see, when it comes to giving shape to dreams, no other RC vehicle category really comes anywhere close to giant scale RC boats!

Table of Contents

Introduction

During the early 20th century, RC boats have joined other RC vehicles such as cars and drones in the limelight. Since then, they have been a popular hobby for people of all ages, not only for kids but for adults too! Anyone who lives near a body of water or those who have access to water can definitely enjoy an excellent remote-controlled boat.

Since the RC boat industry has grown very popular over the years, many products and manufacturers have also surfaced. This makes shopping for the best RC boat quite challenging and complicated. But do not worry since we are here to help. This post will be talking not only about big RC boats but all RC boats in general. If you want to know more about RC boats, then read on!

Types of RC boats

RC boats come in various types that are readily available in the market today. These different types come with other features and specs as well, therefore providing RC hobbyists more options. Here are the different types of boats that you can easily choose from.

RC boats with camera

This type of RC boat is quite popular, and these are the ones that come with built-in or attachable cameras. This type of RC boat is excellent for those who are into photography and videography as well. This works best for people who want to capture incredible first-person perspective action shots with their boat while moving across the water.

RC Pontoon boats

This type of boat is fit for a slow day where you just want to have an open RC boat driving. RC pontoon boats are relatively slower but still carry tons of fun.

Saltwater RC boats

One essential thing to note is that not all boats can be used in saltwater; a specific type can be driven in one. So, if you think you will be taking your RC boat more to the sea, you should be getting one that is safe for saltwater. Make sure that the materials used are safe for saltwater to avoid damages on your RC boat once you are done racing it through the ocean waves.

Miniature RC boats

As the name implies, miniature RC boats are significantly smaller compared to your standard RC boats. This type can be suitable for kids since they are not that huge, and they can also be used in pools and even bathtubs. They are also great for traveling since they will not be taking up too much space.

RC warships

This type of RC boat is commonly included in every collector’s item. They are RC boats that are modeled from real-life warships. This type of RC boat tends to be massive in size.

The best RC boat to buy

The best RC boat to buy is the one that will fit both your wants and needs. When choosing the best RC boat for you, you have to make sure that you are getting one that will fit your budget and suit your preferences as well. That is why it is vital that you become familiar with the different types and the factors to consider to begin with. The best RC boat is the one that will work best for you.

Things to consider when buying an RC boat

Before you pick out your RC boat, it is essential that you know what you are looking for. Here are some factors that you may want to take into consideration.

Where you will be using your RC boat or the location where you will be taking them should be considered. Not all RC boats are equally made, and they might work differently on various bodies of water too. If you have plans to drive your RC boat out in the ocean or an open sea, you may want to pick something suitable for saltwater and one with more power. A powerful boat can easily navigate through the waves and in difficult weather conditions as well.

The fuel type or power source

Similar to a car, the type of fuel or power source of your boat can vary and affect its performance as well. More RC boats are battery-operated or electric-powered; these boats are great for beginners as well. Other types of fuel include nitro and gas. Larger boats typically run on gas, but this type of power source can be high maintenance for some. If you love speed, nitro is the best fuel type for that; however, this fuel is quite expensive to stock up on.

Powerboats vs. sailboats

The majority of RC boats are powerboats, and they have motors that are being powered by battery or fuel. You may be able to choose from racing powerboats which are used for competitive racing, and sports powerboats that are made mainly for recreational use. Sailboats are those kinds of RC boats that are not powered by a motor; instead, the remote control only serves to move the position of the sails and rudders, with the wind pushing your boat across the water.

Radio control unit

You would definitely want a remote control unit that is functional and very easy to use. Choose a control unit that will allow you maximum control while being user-friendly. It will also be a good idea if your remote control is waterproof too; we would not want a controller that will stop working if it accidentally gets dropped into the water. Also, consider the maneuverability of the RC boat you are choosing. Make sure that they are easy to handle, especially if you are a beginner.

Similar to how it is on real and life-size boats, the type of hull on your RC boat can play a significant role in how it works in the water. Most RC boats can have a flat-bottom hull, hydroplane, or monohull. Airboats use a flat-bottom hull and will not typically rely on an RC unit, and they will usually propel themselves forward using a pocket of air. On the other hand, hydroplanes can help significantly reduce the drag on your boat and increase your speed. The monohull ones are the most common type of hull among RC boats.

Some people who desire to buy an RC boat of their own would need to keep a budget in mind. It is crucial that you consider the price of the RC boat and try to get one at the best price there is.

What is a good RC boat?

A good RC boat should be easy to control and will not give you a hard time in looking for a power source. Ultimately, a good RC boat is the one that will fit both your wants and needs. Also, there should be no factor or limitation on your RC boat that will be bothering you in the long run. The good RC boat is the one that you chose for yourself and with no regrets.

Biggest RC boat

The largest RC boat is known to be the German RC Bismarck Battleship. It is a giant RC boat or warship that is built on a 1:50 scale. Watch the video here:

Bottom line

Each RC boat can have its own set of characteristics and specifications together with its advantages and disadvantages. When it comes to choosing big RC boats, you may need to look at many factors other than the size. It is imperative that you get familiar with how an RC boat will work and which type will suit you best. We hope that this post has helped you understand more about RC boats and how cool and awesome they are.

Three major cruise lines sail from Baltimore, though no ships were in port Tuesday morning. The next cruise was scheduled to depart Sunday, but its operator confirmed late Tuesday afternoon that the voyage would instead head out from Norfolk.

Amira M. Hairston, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore port, said in an email that the status of the upcoming cruise ship schedule is not yet known.

“At this time we do not know how long vessel traffic will be suspended. As soon as that is determined we will provide an update. Until then please keep those involved in your prayers,” Hairston wrote.

Royal Caribbean International’s Vision of the Seas left Saturday for a 12-night southern Caribbean cruise with plans to return April 4. The cruise line said in a statement that it was “closely monitoring the situation, and our port logistics team is currently working on alternatives for Vision of the Seas’ ongoing and upcoming sailings.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy and collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and extend our heartfelt prayers to all those impacted,” the company said. Royal Caribbean International will contact guests and travel partners once plans are final, the operator said.

Carnival Legend set off Sunday for a seven-day Bahamas cruise; the ship was scheduled to return March 31 and depart for its next sailing the same day. Instead of coming back to Baltimore, Carnival said late Tuesday, it will end its trip in Norfolk, and free buses will bring passengers back to Baltimore.

The ship’s next seven-day cruise will leave Norfolk and return to the port. In a news release , Carnival said it would temporarily move Baltimore operations to Norfolk “while Key Bridge rescue and cleanup efforts continue.”

“Our thoughts remain with the impacted families and first responders in Baltimore,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a statement. “We appreciate the pledge made by President Biden today to dedicate all available resources to reopen Baltimore Harbor to marine traffic as soon as possible. As those plans are finalized, we will update our future cruise guests on when we will return home to Baltimore, but in the meantime, we appreciate the quick response and support from officials in Norfolk.”

Carnival Pride is supposed to start sailing from Baltimore next month, mostly to the Bahamas and eastern Caribbean.

Norwegian Cruise Line does not have cruises scheduled out of the port until later this year. American Cruise Lines, a U.S. river cruise operator, has Chesapeake Bay trips on small vessels scheduled from Baltimore starting in May. The cruise line said it will monitor developments “and make adjustments if needed.”

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) said it was “deeply saddened” by the bridge collapse and was closely following the situation. “Right now, the most important thing to do is to allow the emergency workers to do their work,” the group wrote in a statement.

This year, 12 ships are scheduled to make a total of 115 calls at the Port of Baltimore, the industry association said. With room for roughly 2,000 or 2,100 passengers at double occupancy, most Baltimore-based ships are much smaller than the record-breaking behemoths that sail from Florida ports.

“Any adjustments to current cruise activity at the port will be announced as soon as available by the individual cruise lines,” CLIA said in its statement.

A news release issued last month by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s office said that more than 444,000 individuals cruised out of the Port of Baltimore last year, the most since 2012. The Maryland Port Administration said in a news release last year that the cruise industry generates nearly 400 jobs and $63 million in revenue every year for local businesses.

The port positions itself as a convenient option for cruising year-round, thanks to its location off Interstate 95 and plentiful parking. More than 40 million people live within a six-hour drive of the city, the port administration says.

Baltimore bridge collapse

Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship , sending at least eight people from a construction crew into the water. Follow live updates and see photos from the scene .

How it happened: The container ship lost power shortly before hitting the bridge, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said. Video shows the bridge collapse in under 40 seconds.

Victims: Divers recovered the bodies of two construction workers who died , while finding other vehicles trapped and probably containing the other victims, officials said. They were fathers, husbands and hard workers . The entire crew aboard the container ship Dali survived . First responders shut down most traffic on the four-lane bridge after the crew issued an urgent mayday call. It saved lives, Moore said.

Economic impact: The collapse of the bridge, which severed ocean links to the Port of Baltimore, adds a fresh headache to already struggling global supply chains . See how the collapse will disrupt the supply of cars, coal and other goods .

History: The Key Bridge was built in the 1970s and spanned the Patapsco River. Rebuilding the bridge will probably take years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars, experts said.

They like big boats and they cannot lie.

For many of the first passengers on the world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, the onboard reality of the $2 billion behemoth lived up to the over-the-top hype.

During back-to-back preview sailings from the Port of Miami in late January, travel agents, special guests, members of the media and selfie-snapping influencers giddily explored as much as they could of the 20-story floating city that boasts eight distinct neighborhoods — and can hold nearly 10,000 passengers and crew at full capacity.

Aerial of Royal Caribbean.

As they ate and drank across the ship a shared sentiment formed: Big is indeed beautiful.

“I think it’s definitely a game-changer,” said Tywana Minor, founder of Live Travel Go, a boutique travel agency based in Atlanta. “You can literally be on the ship for a few days and still not even experience everything.”

The first bunch on board explored the myriad offerings with a sort of collective awe. Couples clinked flutes of champagne at the walk-up Bubbles bar in the Central Park neighborhood, one of 40 bars and restaurants on board.

“You can literally be on the ship for a few days and still not even experience everything” Tywana Minor, founder of Live Travel Go

Adults giggled like nervous adolescents as they blasted down water slides with names like Frightening Bolt and Storm Surge in the 17,000-square-foot water park. Pint-sized passengers, meanwhile, found nirvana at Surfside, a family-centric area complete with a beach-themed carousel and wading pool.

A few lucky souls even had the good fortune to snag perhaps the most coveted reservation on the high seas: the 38-seat Empire Supper Club, an eight-course dinner complete with cocktail pairings and live jazz. The fine-dining experience, which costs $200 per person, is fully booked for the next few months.

But it wasn’t just Icon’s splashy main attractions wowing passengers: Surprises awaited around seemingly every corner of the 1,198-foot ship, including pop-up piano performances, magicians and a duo of donut-costumed employees at the breakfast buffet every morning pointing guests toward rows of sinks and reminding them to “washy washy before yummy yummy!”

Interior of a game room.

For many passengers, adjusting to Icon’s staggering size — it’s nearly as long as four New York City blocks — presented a learning curve in itself. Even with signage everywhere, getting lost at some point was a given. Furthermore, the ship’s design — a vast open-air interior with elevators located forward and aft but not in the middle — almost guarantees that passengers will hit (or exceed) their daily step count.

“If you don’t like walking around a lot, this ship is not gonna be for you,” said Linda Miranda , a Newburgh, NY-based travel franchise owner with Cruise Planners.

As an antidote to the go-go-go vibe, Icon’s massive square footage also includes plenty of tranquil nooks and crannies ideal for kicking back and catching your breath: bed loungers overlooking the ocean; cornucopias of outdoor couches and chairs across various decks; and cozy, nest-like booths in the AquaDome, an area featuring a waterfall and wraparound ocean views.

Exterior of pool bar Swim & Tonic.

“There are so many spaces that you’re not going to feel the 7,600 passengers it can hold fully occupied,” Miranda said.

To escape the sensory overload altogether, retreat to their staterooms. There are 28 room categories; the most basic accommodations are 157-square-foot interior plus cabins, with rates starting at $3,600 per week for two people.

Meanwhile, one-percenters can splash out with the three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse, which spoils eight guests with amenities like a private patio, outdoor hot tub, in-suite slide, cinema and popcorn machine, and kids’ room. The suite costs, on average, $100,000 per week.

Interior of a room aboard the ship.

So far, passengers are showing an insatiable appetite for Icon and its outsized experience. When the ship was first announced in October 2022, it broke records as the largest booking day and week in Royal Caribbean’s then 53-year history, according to the cruise line. And the remainder of 2024 sailings are almost sold out, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed.

But since Icon is the first of a new class of megaships by Royal Caribbean — two more are on the way, with Star of the Seas scheduled to debut in August 2025 — there’s plenty more big fun on the horizon. It’s a prospect that has the chubby chasers of the cruise community twitterpated.

“These news ships, I don’t know how they keep building them bigger and bigger,” said Howard Schildhouse — a retired accountant who writes about his travels on his blog, “ It Must Be Wanderlust ” — “but they do.”

When it comes to large RC boats, having the right motor is crucial for achieving top performance. RC boat enthusiasts must navigate through a plethora of different motor types, each with their own pros and cons, to find the one that is perfect for their boat’s size and intended use. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced sailor, choosing the right motor is crucial to ensure that your RC boat runs smoothly and safely on the water. In this article, we will discuss the different types of large RC boat motors, including brushed, brushless, inrunner, and outrunner motors, and provide detailed information on the advantages and disadvantages of each, helping you make an informed decision for your RC boat. So, read on to find out everything you need to know about large RC boat motors and choose the right one for your boat.

Types of Large RC Boat Motors

There are several different types of large RC boat motors , each with their own unique characteristics that make them suitable for specific boats and purposes. Below are some of the most common types available in the market today:

  • Brushed Motors: These motors are the most basic type and often found in small and lightweight RC boats. They are simple, reliable, and easy to maintain. However, they are less efficient, have lower power output, and tend to wear out faster than other types.
  • Brushless Motors: These motors use electronic speed controllers to operate and are more advanced than brushed motors. They are known for their efficiency, power, and longer lifespan. Furthermore, they require less maintenance and have a smoother operation. However, they are more expensive than brushed motors and require more technical knowledge to operate.
  • Inrunner Motors: These motors are characterized by their high speeds and acceleration, making them suitable for speedboats and racing boats. They have a compact size and operate at higher RPMs than other types, making them ideal for boats that require high speeds.
  • Outrunner Motors: These motors are known for their high torque and efficiency. They are ideal for larger and heavier RC boats that require more power to operate. They spin slower than inrunner motors, but with higher torque, making them perfect for boats that require more turning power.

When choosing the right type of motor for your large RC boat, it is essential to consider the boat’s size, weight, and intended use. Online stores such as HobbyKing, Horizon Hobby , and Tower Hobbies offer a wide range of motors suitable for different types of boats. They also provide detailed specifications, reviews, and customer support to help you find the perfect motor for your RC boat.

How to choose a motor for a RC boat?

When choosing a motor for your RC boat, it’s essential to consider the size and weight of your boat, as well as the intended use and desired speed. A brushless motor will typically provide more speed and power, while a brushed motor is generally more affordable. When selecting a motor, look for one that matches the voltage of your battery and has an appropriate Kv rating. It’s also crucial to consider the cooling system to prevent overheating of the motor. You can find a wide selection of RC boat motors on websites such as Amazon or HobbyKing.

Large RC boat motors come in different types and sizes. For bigger and heavier boats, brushless motors are often preferred because of their efficiency and power. However, for smaller and lightweight boats, brushed motors are the go-to option.

Brushed motors are the most basic type of motors and are easy to use. They are also cheaper and widely available compared to brushless motors. However, they have some disadvantages. They are less efficient and produce less power than brushless motors. They also have a higher chance of wear and tear and can be noisy and produce heat.

Despite their disadvantages, brushed motors are still widely used in RC boating and have been instrumental in its development. They are ideal for beginners and smaller boats as they are simple and require minimal maintenance. They can also be easily replaced or upgraded.

If you are interested in purchasing brushed motors for your large RC boats , online stores such as Amazon and eBay offer a wide range of options. Some of the most popular brushed motors available on Amazon include the Traxxas Titan 550 , the Tamiya 540-J , and the Associated Electrics Reedy Radon 2 . Prices range from $18.99 to $22.79.

Overall, while brushed motors may have their drawbacks, they are still a viable option for large RC boats and can be a cost-effective solution for those starting out in the hobby.

What are the basics of a brushed motor?

Brushed DC motors have four main components: a stator, a rotor, a commutator and brushes. The rotor contains coils of wire wrapped around a ferrous metal core and is powered by brushes. For more detailed information and illustrations, visit websites such as HowStuffWorks or manufacturers’ websites like Baldor’s.

Brushless motors are more advanced than brushed motors and are used in larger and more powerful RC boats . Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of using brushless motors:

  • Higher efficiency and power output than brushed motors
  • Longer lifespan and less wear and tear
  • Less heat and noise production
  • Greater speed control and responsiveness
  • Suitable for larger and more advanced boats
  • More expensive than brushed motors
  • Require specialized knowledge and equipment for maintenance
  • Can be more complex to use and set up

Brushless motors work by using electronic signals from the controller to switch the magnetic field of the rotor, causing it to rotate. This eliminates the need for brushes and makes brushless motors more efficient and reliable.

If you’re interested in purchasing brushless motors for your large RC boats , there are many online stores and brands that offer a wide range of options. Some popular brushless motor brands include:

  • Castle Creations

The table below shows some of the most popular brushless motors available on Amazon:

Why is a brushless motor better?

Brushless motors are better because they are more efficient than brushed motors. According to Consumer Reports, brushless motors are more energy-efficient than brushed motors, often running on battery power for up to 50 percent longer. They have a longer battery life since they don’t contain brushes that lose energy to friction. Additionally, many models can run for hours.

Inrunner Motors Inrunner motors are another type of motor that is commonly used in large RC boats , especially those that require high speeds and acceleration. Here are some of the pros and cons of using inrunner motors:

  • High-speed operation
  • More efficient than brushed motors
  • Suitable for boats that require high speeds and acceleration
  • Lightweight and easy to install
  • Not as powerful as brushless or outrunner motors
  • Can be more expensive than brushed motors
  • Less torque than outrunner motors

Inrunner motors get their name from the fact that their rotor is located on the inside of the motor’s case. They are typically smaller and more lightweight than other motor types, which makes them ideal for high-speed boats. Inrunner motors are also popular in racing boats because of their ability to deliver fast, responsive performance.

If you’re interested in purchasing inrunner motors for your large RC boats , there are several online stores and brands that offer a wide range of options. Some popular inrunner motor brands include:

  • Cooling Sky
  • Sensorless High-Speed Motor

The table below shows some of the most popular inrunner motors available on Amazon:

What is the difference between inrunner and outrunner motors?

The main difference between inrunner and outrunner motors is the location of the rotor in relation to the stator. In inrunner motors, the rotor is located on the inside of the stator, while in outrunner motors, the rotor is located on the outside of the stator. Outrunner motors are known to produce more torque for the same build volume compared to inrunner motors. Magnetic Innovations is a company that specializes in outrunner motors, offering high-quality products in this typology.

Outrunner Motors

Outrunner motors are a popular choice for large RC boats that require high torque and efficiency. These motors have their rotor on the outside of the motor’s case and can provide more power than inrunner and brushed motors . Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of using outrunner motors:

  • Advantages:
  • Powerful and efficient
  • Provide high torque
  • Suitable for boats that require high power
  • Larger and more durable than other motor types
  • Disadvantages:
  • Less efficient than inrunner and brushless motors
  • Can be heavier and more difficult to install
  • May generate more heat than other motor types

Outrunner motors are a popular choice for large RC boats that require more power and torque than other motor types can provide. They are typically larger and more durable than inrunner and brushed motors, making them ideal for bigger boats. Outrunner motors are also efficient at generating and maintaining high levels of torque, which is important for boats that require a lot of power to operate.

If you’re in the market for outrunner motors for your large RC boat , there are many online stores and brands that offer a variety of options. Some popular outrunner motor brands include:

  • Inrunner 4260

The table below shows some of the most popular outrunner motors available on Amazon:

How do I choose an electric motor for my RC boat?

When selecting an electric motor for your RC boat, it is crucial to consider the size of the hull and the number of cells you plan to use. To determine the appropriate motor size, you need to consider the weight of the boat and the size of the hull. The cell count will determine the wind of the motor required. Different types of boat motors are available in the market, and one needs to find a motor that fits their requirements and budget. Websites such as HobbyKing, Amazon, and Tower Hobbies offer a wide range of brushless motors for RC boats and provide detailed product specifications to help in decision making.

Choosing the right motor for your large RC boat is crucial for optimal performance. The type of motor you choose will depend on your boat’s size, intended use, and personal preferences. It’s important to understand the different types of motors available and their advantages and disadvantages before making a purchase.

Brushed motors are a good choice for beginners and smaller boats, while brushless motors offer a more efficient and powerful option for larger and more advanced boats. Inrunner motors are suitable for boats that require high speed and acceleration, while outrunner motors are ideal for boats that require high torque and efficiency.

When shopping for large RC boat motors, it’s important to do your research and compare prices, brands, and specifications. There are many reputable online stores and brands that offer a wide variety of motor options to choose from. Reading reviews from other RC boat enthusiasts can also help you make an informed decision.

Overall, investing in a high-quality motor for your large RC boat can greatly improve its performance and enhance your overall RC boating experience. Take the time to choose the right motor, and you’ll be rewarded with a faster, more responsive, and more enjoyable RC boat ride.
